Niners make their Super Bowl predictions

Niners linebacker Travis LaBoy was playing for Arizona in 2008 and had a field-level view of Ben Roethlisberger’s touchdown toss to Santonio Holmes, the game-winner in the Steelers’ 27-23 win over the Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII.

That victory improved Pittsburgh’s record to 6-1 in Super Bowls. And LaBoy is the only Niner among five polled this week who is predicting the Steelers will improve to 7-1 after Sunday’s showdown against Green Bay. (For the record, some of his teammates seem to think the Steelers will win, but are picking the Packers. Go NFC!)

Thanks to the 49ers PR staff for tracking down the predictions:

LB PATRICK WILLIS
Prediction: Packers 24, Steelers 21
“I think the Steelers are going to pull it off, but I want Green Bay to win. Actually, I wouldn’t mind if either of them won because a guy I went to (Ole Miss) with, Mike Wallace, who’s been the number one receiver for them the last two years, plays for the Steelers. I’ve trained with Steelers (LB) LaMarr Woodley and I like what their team is about. If I had to choose one team, I’d want the Packers to win it because it keeps it closer to us.”

LB TRAVIS LABOY
Prediction: Steelers 28, Packers 14
“They’ve been there before. They shut our team down when we went (to Super Bowl XLIII) and we had a good combination of receivers on our team.”

S TAYLOR MAYS
Prediction: Packers 24, Steelers 21
“The Steelers are so tough, but I think Green Bay’s going to win because they’re from the NFC. It’s a stronger conference. Plus they beat us.”

K JOE NEDNEY
Prediction: Packers 24, Steelers 17
“I’m rooting for the Packers, but I think it’s going to take a lot for them to beat Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh’s got a strong defense and they’ve got a big, strong quarterback. I think if you look at the team’s man-for-man, I think Pittsburgh’s probably the stronger team, but I will personally be rooting for Green Bay.”

LB PARYS HARALSON
Prediction: Packers 17, Steelers 14
“I like the way (QB) Aaron Rodgers is playing right now. Their passing attack is off the charts. With (James) Starks running the ball, he’s been running the ball pretty well. I think they’ll be able to move the ball on the Steelers. It’s going to be a good game, but I’m going to take Green Bay.”
