According to Mike Sando, Nate Clements’ release is “finally imminent.” So, we know the 49ers must sign a replacement cornerback. I know you’d like them to sign Nnamdi Asomugha. I’m guessing he’d rather go to the Houston Texans or the New York Jets, but if Trent Baalke can somehow sign the best cornerback in the NFL, more power to him. I know I wrote yesterday that the Niners should spend their money on other players, but I’m a positive thinker and I’ll praise the organization if they get the best free agent on the market.
Michael C. Wright of ESPN Chicago reports that the Niners are making a serious run at signing the 34-year-old, four-time All-Pro center Olin Kreutz. I feel the same way about this as I feel about Asomugha. If Baalke can land Kreutz, good for him.
The Raiders want to sign safety Dashon Goldson from the 49ers, according to Adam Schefter. Would you like Baalke to outbid Al Davis for Goldson? I say let the Raiders overpay for him.
The Cardinals aren’t interested in Manny Lawson, according the Arizona beat writer Kent Somers. Are you interested in Manny Lawson?
Frank Gore is holding out from training camp because he wants more money. Should Trent Baalke give it to him? Should he sign a younger, healthier running back instead? How about the 25-year-old Ahmad Bradshaw?
Bonus question: Who will be the first free agent from another team the 49ers sign?
But let’s be honest. The real meaning of today is what you don’t see. It’s all about whether the 49ers can get Nnamdi Asomugha. If I had to write a headline for today I’d call it “Waiting for Nnamdi.”
