The 49ers cut Braylon Edwards, according to multiple reports.
Edwards made this statement on his website: ”I was released today by the 49ers due to my injury that required more time to rehab and hasn’t allowed me to re-sync with the offense. I wish the 49ers organization the best of luck during the Playoffs.
“I will be working hard this off season to strengthen my knee and prepare for the 2012 season. Thanks for your continued support and for being such loyal fans.”
In a way it’s too bad the Niners cut Edwards – he was one of the best interviews on the team.
Yesterday, Jim Harbaugh was asked if he was going place Delanie Walker on IR to free up a roster spot for another offensive skill player. He said he didn’t want to do that with Walker because he’s still hoping to get the tight end back in the playoffs.
But the Niners still need another pass catcher, since Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis are the only healthy and reliable options on the roster. Afterall, Ted Ginn Jr. has a twisted ankle and Kyle Williams was concussed at the end of the Seahawks game.
So they cut Edwards, who’d done next to nothing this regular season, and who probably wasn’t going to turn it on any time soon.
The question now is who will Trent Baalke sign? I doubt it will be Terrell Owens – he’s the anti-team player. Whoever they sign will instantly echo Harbaugh’s message, and he’ll talk a lot less than Braylon Edwards.
