Funny, because I took at the N.O. Picayune sports expecting to see hundreds of posts by Saints fans..and every writer, video and column-but one- had NONE,ZERO,NADA, comments. FB killed off even fanatical southern football fans.
Took a look. I’m not a good editor. Another fault I bare with..
http://www.nola.com/saints/index.html
This is where you find all the community comments if you want to give some saints fans a little razzle dazzle, but yeah I hate linking posts to facebook.
We’re keeping it simple, having a Niner playoff house party with a few Niner buddies and family. Ordered a keg of beer for the first time since our last playoff victory nine LONG years ago!
Nine LONG years
Nine LONG years ago is when the 49ers last won a playoff game (January 05, 2003).
“Lose Yourself” (Eminem) was the #1 song then, “24” was the top TV show and Spider-Man was the top-grossing movie.
Since that 39-38 victory over the N.Y. Giants nine LONG years ago, many historical NON-sporting events have taken place.
The Space Shuttle Columbia exploded, the war in Iraq began (2003), U.S. forces captured Saddam Hussein, George W. Bush was re-elected, Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast, Indonesia tsunami occurs and 290,000 people die, Barack Obama was elected President (2008), BP oil spill, Britain celebrates the fairytale royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Osama bin Laden was killed, Moammar Gadhafi’s 42-year reign over Libya ends when he is killed, the economic recession continues to worsen and the nine year American military mission in Iraq came to a formal end. A lot can happen in nine LONG years.
“If we die, we die together. You can get it done. Once more, you gotta get it done.”
~Lou Saban (pregame speech 1974)
i was at iquazu falls on that day….warm and happy after looking into the spitting into the devil’s throat…..now that was truly an insignificant spittle
into and spitting
I love that “Lou Saban” Film Clip!
1 of the Best of NFL Films for sure.
BBQ WITH THE FAM!!, ALSO TEACHING THE YOUNGER GENERATION ON BEING A NINER FAITHFUL! ITS BEEN TOO LONG BUT OUR NINERS ARE BACK!! SAINTS WILL GO DOWN CRYING!!
Man I got the fever, got this red rash all over my body, the cure is nothing short of a win. To itch is to lose so I am going to be misrable till sat, the day the Niners turn relavent again. My receipe for victory is lots of Gore, a sprinkle of Crab, a dash of Vernon, large dose of Willis and Bowman, followed by a rush of the Smiths, and toss in Alex, mix together and pour into a brown paper bag and out come the Aints.
Securing the furniture and pressing the funny little white coat my wife makes me wear when the game starts (just so I don’t hurt myself !).
HA!
I have NO worries what so ever hightop. I just can’t wait for the Game & seeing the Electricity from the 49er Crowd at the Schtick. It’s going to be CRAZY!
I messed up big time and did not renew my season tickets last spring. My reasoning . . . everything looked really bleak and I just didn’t want to sit in a crappy stadium and watch crappy football for another losing season. So, after 15 years I gave up great seats behind the Niners bench 14 rows up from the field. Am I crying. No, we fly out Sat morning for Kauai and maybe I’ll be able to catch the 4th quarter if we get to our condo in time. My DVR will hold the game until we return. I’m happy for the team and the Bay area and have fond memories of my daughter jumping up and down in her seat screaming JER REE, JER REE. She was nine then and she is 20 now.
As a Native San Franciscan living in snowy Chicago I will be with my die hard group of Niners fans at the only 49er bar in Chicago. Great times, great people, watching a great team! Go Niners!!!!
I lived in Skokie for 2 years. Did not realize there was a 49er bar in Chitown. Crap..
We just made it happen this year. It has been fun, real fans all bay area, all die hard Niners fans.
Hey, I’m a Niners fan living in Chicago. Where is this place?!
I’m in Chicago too!! Where is this bar at??
Going to spend it with my Dad who is not doing well. Life is short, get the most out of it, I am with Crab15 though, I am anticipating this game so much I am pretty useless and oblivious to everything else, It is just a game right? I should not care so much right? Yeah, I guess I need one of those white restraint suits high top owns! How many hours left?
47 hours and 3 minutes.
Sorry your dads not doing so hot – hopefully the Niners will give you both something to cheer about :-)
49er girl I see why you are so respected and loved by every body! I appreciate your good thoughts! Not to bring everybody down , but my dad had spent too many years smoking and the cancer is the result with not too much time left. He had stopped smoking the last six years and he and my mother had taken many wonderful trips. Even trips that included the whole family. We love him and want more time but he is almost 70 and has lived a full life. I am a lucky man. I have been married to my wonderful wife for 19 years. Three great kids but can be a challenge. Anyway, I know this is not a personal page, but it great to come accross people that really care like you do! So hopefully we can be with Dad on Saturday and cherish some good memories, The 81 game was replayed on the NFL network which brought back lots of memories, Like I have said and many others, lots of similarities between that team and this one, Differences too, but this is alot more fun then being left out in the Cold! Hope you have a wonderful game and Life!
@reb
I lost 2 uncles to cancer due to smoking.
Sorry to hear the news.
Rebel: so sad…I’m praying for your dad and your family…and I’m praying for a win just for him.
Thank you rebelscum – although you’re name doesn’t really suit you :-).
I lost my grandma to pancreatic cancer right after the Niners whooped Denver 55-10 in the SB. She was a die hard Niner fan ever since the team started playing in SF.
My parents were with her in her hospital room during the SB (she was in a coma and very near the end). Not that long after the game started they noticed that every time the Niners did something awesome her heart rate went up on the monitor.
My parents thought she was reacting to all the cheering in the room, so they turned the sound off for a while and waited for another big play. Without hearing a sound, on the next TD, her heart rate went up again. We figured she was watching and cheering them on from wherever she was. I’m convinced she held on long enough to see them win another SB, then peacefully let go the next day.
I hope your dad is still able to cheer out loud, but if he isn’t I’m sure he’s still rooting them on in whatever way he can and enjoying the company of his family.
I’ll keep you and your family in my thoughts.
Only 28 hours and 23 minutes ’til gametime!
Sadly, I have to attend a buddy of mine’s funeral in Whitehall Mt. Funeral is at 2:00, Game starts at 2:30. Reception is at the Mint Bar where the game will be on. I should only miss the 1st Qtr. Maybe! My buddy hated the 9ers and he just had to do this to me! lol
Everything passes, I guess that’s the lesson we all must learn. We have memories which keep things alive after our loved ones are gone. Enjoy them while they are here, most guys can’t say those magic three little words because they are guys. But by saying it there becomes freedom.
Hope the game lifts his spirits. That’s a damned hard knock. Good for you that you’re making time to spend with him.
Hope the game brings you both some joy!
Rebel- enjoy the game to the fullest with your Dad,relish every moment and here’s to a victory for us all brother!!!!
Going to watch it with my dad and uncle. I am on baby watch right now and we expect my firstborn son on Super Bowl Sunday. My wife got a niners onesie for him already.
Congrats to you and your wife on the upcoming birth of your boy!
mg -Congrats! Do you have a name picked out yet? How bout whoever scores first TD in Super Bowl? Michael? ;-)
+1 Congrats!
Niners baby clothes – extra +1 for style points!
@Adam
You ever check out the prices on baby Niner clothes?
It costs more than adult Niner clothes. Talk about burdening the young.
But, that is beside the pont.
Congrats mg!
I’ve got a few people coming over,
Was thinking about making a Seafood Gumbo in honor of the Saints going Down for the Count with a few Cold Beers!
Unfortunately I will be watching the game alone in Midland Tx where work has taken me, If I am driving myself crazy at the half I might find the Buffalo wild wings, probably the only place in this sorry town that will show the game. GO 9ers, the only hard choice game day will be which jersey I want to wear.
Hope a W washes the pain away.
On another note,I heard Jim Tomusula might be interviewed for the KC defensive coordinators position.
Where did you hear this?
ESPN
I would have Jed offer 2x the money the other job is offering.
We have seen this year how important coaches are. Next to a players salary, it is nothing.
I would ask Jed please pay him the money to stay here as the DL coach.
Looking for local 49er spot in the Chicago area just wondering if you had any idea or know of any?
Jed should throw in a bunch of complimentary leisure jackets with broken zippers that only go half way up!
Just to show Crabs middle aged guys can get down too!
I will be at a birthday party for my 7 year old cousin who’s parents clearly have no interest in football. It ends at 1:30 (thankfully) and I will be driving like a crazy woman in complete radio & phone silence until we catch up with live TV.
Just going to spend the game with my boys, who, due to the 49ers success, are slowly being converted from the dark side (they will soon be former Raider fans)…heeheehee!!!
Goooooooo Niners!
LOL 49ergirl, Go NINERS
I will be celebrating my son’s 1st birthday with the game on and a house full of 49er fans…My son’s name? “Alex”.
Not named after AS, but a big game from his namesake would be a great birthday gift for my son…
Being a retired Navy Chief growing up in the bay area and now residing in Norfolk Virginia, I will have to be the lone west coast 49er representative. Will do my usual, read the morning media stories on the Webzone, check ESPN once more, look at the prediction picks and check the blogs once more. Eat some lunch, a big hoggie and then watch the game.
Just so everyone hears it here first and I am calling it, if I may be so bold:
I predict a 49er win over the Saints and a Giants upset over Green Bay, with a NFC championship game at the stick.
Doc
I was also looking at Giants over the Packers. Havnt made my picks yet. Vietnam Vet – Army here. Great thx to all the Vets.
@ doc..you want be all alone .my daughter and husband are big 9ers fine and they live in norfolk.i think they are going to portsmouth to roger browns.im pretty sure you know where thats at.ive been there several times and its real nice and parking is free within walking distance.
Called it, got the 49er faith.
Doc
+1 Doc, and thanx for your service, ex NAVY myself.
Around two o’clock (we’re on Mountain Time here), I’ll stroll over to the Fish Tale Tavern, order my courtesy drink, and settle in for the game, which promises to be a thrilling one, a kind of near-Superbowl. (If the Niners succeed in giving Alex time and in pressuring Brees, they will win.) I’ll also check out the Giants – Green Bay contest, another near-Superbowl. I’ve a five-dollar bet with a big Green Bay fan that the Giants will win, but if they don’t, I won’t be too upset because I do so want the Niners to take on the Packers.
I plan to be at the Wooden Chicken in Portland, Oregon where the Portland Forty-Niner fan clubs meets to watch the game. That’s if I can get a seat. The place has been filling up this season. I may have to show up for breakfast to find an open seat.
will be watching the game with my Dad.
I hope JT stays here, he is A difference maker for us, love his enthusiasm.
My boy’s are 49ers faithful, I didnt force it. I let them choose. They’ve watched the bad years . We live in AZ , travel to Frisco every year for a game, and get to see them once a year in phoenix too. 4th Gen Fans I love it! Give us a show Niners!
This is awesome! Great 49ers songs for the playoffs
http://www.chatsports.com/san-francisco-49ers/a/49ers-rumors-Which-should-be-the-official-San-Francisco-49ers-anthem-10-9-255
It will be 9:30pm when the game starts here, i’ll more than likely be half cut, and nervous as hell sitting in front of my computer praying my internet connection holds up. I live in a rural part of England, and there are no other Niner fans around here, None!, in fact there are no other football fans around here period, but i don’t care! I’ll watch the game alone, the wife and daughter having scarpered down the pub, but safe in the knowledge that i’m spiritually connected to every other niner fan on the globe, for three hours going through the ups and downs and shredded nerves in synchronised bliss!
To those who will be there – I hope you understand just how PHENOMENALLY lucky you are, and that you make the whole place shake from start to finish! It is your duty as lucky lucky b******s!!
My prediction – San Francisco 49ers 33-10 New Orleans Saints. (having always beleived that AS can be great, i’m pretty much pidgeon holed as an optimist)
I will be cheering with you my brother. Have a cold bitter for me please
done that both in shanghai and germany for years….slingbox don’t leave home without it
Niner fans,
lets roll into “The Stick” with an attitude on Saturday. For one game, lets be the loudest stadium in all of football. Lets the the 12th man on defense. It’s not real home field advantage unless “we” make it that way. I cringe when I see all the false starts against the visiting teams in New Orleans. Well let’s see if we can create a few false starts ourselves. Let’s keep it loud and let’s keep it coming at them all game.
I’ll admit, I’m a grown man and I’m nervous. Just am. Although the closer it gets to game time, the more I believe we are going to win this game. Give Harbaugh two week to prepare and good things will happen.
I’ll be sporting my Harbaugh #4 Jersey for good luck. Go NINERS….
Bay how can we get the fans fired up in the stick!!! Please Niner fans lets rock the Stick and the entire town. Also please do not sell your tickets to the Saint fans. We have to be loud in this game
Well said Bay, this game could have major implications for the future of the franchise if we win. I already think we are built for greatness based on the youth and talent on our roster for many years to come. Yes we have some weaknesses and some of those could get exposed this weekend, but the more I think about this game, the more I think we are built for this type of pressure packed game and to be successful in it. I wont be at the game, but I will be screaming way up here in Canada! Go 49ers!
thunder sticks, may be obnoxious but totally effective ….. wonder if there is a rule against it
My voice will be yelling ALL game long. Pump up some fans in the lot, on the way to the gates, in the hallways, down or up the stairs, and in the seats! If anyone tells you to sit. you tell them to GO HOME……This aint our Daddy’s wine and cheese 49ers. This is a new era of Faithful. Its been 9 long years. I aint sitting for this one WHEEEEEEW! NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My buddy tells me they are handing out raley towels. I’d rather get a bull horn.
the towles are for the NO fans to wipe the sh!T off their faces
@Bay…….I heard it was WGIBTU Shirts.
I want to see the crowd at the Stick be so loud on Saturday that it makes Qwest Field look like a day care at naptime. Welcome to THE STICK !!!
CANT WAIT TO WATCH DREW GET NuT SACKED BY 9ERS
so tosh.o of u
I’ll be driving 4 hours to my best friend’s house, who happens to be a life-long Saints fan (we’re both 39) , through -2 Degrees Farenheit and snow, for the big game, returning early the next morning, either hungover and gloomy, or hungover and ecstatic, for my daughter’s 1st birthday party.
My aforesaid friend actually named his now 3 yr old son Drew, and his basement should be in some sort of man magazine as the ultimate man-room (except it’s absolutely covered in Saint crap – he threw out his Reggie Bush fathead though, haha)
I want it rockin’ and rollin’, thunderin’ and shakin’ at the ‘Stick, whoever’s going to the game!!!!!
I’m at work right now – it’s 9:00 pm here, trying to get caught up, cuz I’ll be…ahem…”unable to come in this weekend due to a previously scheduled engagement”…but I can’t get anything done!!
Thought you were coming to San Fran?
I’ve only ever seen 1 game at the stick. It was during the dark days….I believe Tim Rattay may have been QB’ing, and they actually beat the crap out of St. Louis. I’m going to say it was in 2002.
My wife and I will be watching the game from our sofa. When I was 11 Staubach made me cry as Brodie to Kwalick just wasn’t enough. At 21, I jumped off the floor screaming during games and swore I would name my first child after Keena Turner. Now, almost 51, I sit quietly on the couch trying not to get too high or too low. I’ve worn the same t-shirt on game day and didn’t wash it during that 8 game winning streak. I don’t invite anyone over nor accept any calls during the game. No one would understand why it means so much to me. Being here on this blog makes me realize I’m okay and not the only nut who takes the Niners way too seriously. GOOOOO NINERS!!! WGIBTU?????
No-fxxxxxx-body! Buddy!
Openminded, you are not alone sir. Brodie to Kwalick takes me back…my personal heartbreak was Dick Witcher (?) dropping one in the end zone, all alone. Heck, Garrison Hearst breaking his ankle against Atlanta still stings too. I’m the same way: Niner games are precious, and Niner playoff games are my religious experience. I have a general rule that i will accept any social invitation over NFL football, just to make sure i dont become a total sports addict…having said that, no one who i know/respect would set anything up during a Niner playoff game :-)
The game comes on at 3am in India. I’ll be in Delhi to watch the game. As far as sleep goes forget about it. I’ll get some snacks and a pepsi (the pepsi brand has much more caffeine, so I’ll be jacked up even more). My connection with the fan base is you guys and girls. We will get the vibe for this game very quickly. I love Patrick and want him to have a hall of fame game. Let the games begin!
Cmon Maaaaan! Get a Coke! Pepsi is what Saints fans drink. ;-)
India coke tastes much different than USA coke and India pepsi is much better than USA pepsi. A Saint I ain’t.
LOL. In India and Mexico and anywhere besides the US. Coke uses real sugar. Like they use to in the US when it was still the US. lol As you can tell I work for the Best. Coca Cola! ;-0
@ open M, u r definatly not alone in your fanaticism, who has it better?
…….just got back from a happy little island ☺ …….would be watching with friends who mocked my niners thru the years – they decided to take me out to a bar/restorante instead of eating crow……
…will…..
@oneniner
Welcome back!
Vacations are better when you don’t check out the blog. lol
DS94everXev sorry to hear that you had lost two Uncles. Thank you for your kind words and lots of others sharing the message of enjoying this”gift” of life while we have it because we all pass at one time and life can be painfull, Hopefully by the end of Saturday, just Saints players and fans are suffering, just joking but hopefully we can win this! Go Ninners!
…☺ …won’t disagree with that…..
@rebel
Yeah. If this were a political blog I would ask you to guess how I feel/think about the tobacco industry.
Me and my boy are Rolling out to San Carlos tomorrow after work. Gonna stay with a homie there. Getting up early. Repack the truck. And plan on being there at 8:30. Then Im going to set up camp. Light the Que, pop the top on a bud light. Hook up the Boombox, “no tv this time…no games” get the blender ready, put up the9er pong table and canopy’s and partaaaa in the shade. Then gonna roll into the stick to watch my boys stomp some Saints! WHEEEEEEEEW!
MD, I wish to god i could have been there! I have a company dinner event that i can not miss!!! If we win this game i will go to the next game in red and gold to watch my team beat the packers. GO NINERS
Hopefully The NYG and we TCB…… That way we can get two home games. lol Cheers Brotha! Ill pop one for you!
Porterhouse steaks smothered in mushrooms and onions, keg of Amstel Light, Humbolt County Skunker and a 49er cake. Go baby Go!! Forty Focking Niners!!
Long time reader, first time writer. I thought it was just going to be happy to watch the 9ers in a playoff game, but as I was reading the blog tonight I realized my emotions are runnning high. The last 9 years have been rough, but we the faithful still believe. All I will be saying on Saturday while watching with my Dad is “Win BABY, WIN!!!!!!
Good comments. Welcome aboard!
Welcome NorthBay!
We are always on the look-out for positive bloggers.
yeah like he said DREW is going to soil his pink panties when he gets nut Sack by 9ER D
Welkom aan boord van…..
NB 9erfan – Welcome!
Having the official watch party for Colorado 49ers fans at The Goose in Boulder. Hot wings and cold beer will make watching our niners even better.
SAAAAY WHAT?!?! I’m not far from Boulder!! Like an hour and a half drive. I would most definitely go! …. HooOOoOOoooowEver!! I have to work. I have to work, I have to work, I have to work!!!!! FAAAAAAWK I hate my life!!!!!! But I’ll still be watching. It has been arranged, haha!
Work? Your Man-Card will be revoked then Guapo!
Hey Bay, take in one of those big horns that were population back in the ’80s early ’90s. Those things are loud as heck.
I remember a guy who sat next to me in lower section 2 used to bring one to every game. He would blow that thing like crazy. During the Monday night game with the Giants during the 3 peat year we almost had a brawl because someone wanted him to stop.
Have fun and wave that rally towel like a crazy man
Go 9ers!
Why doesn’t Jed give out free horns for the first 10 rows of fans behind the NO Saints sideline (along with ear plugs)?
Blow them the entire game, destroying the verbal communication all game long for the Saint coaches and players.
thundersticks are cheaper and damn loud and only takes a little breath and unmitigated amount of human energy…..just to augment the voice
Gotta admit though the irony if they passed out horns.
Using horns (musical instrument) against the City of Music with the blues and Jazz.
I should bring mine. Its used for the A’s games and has A’s stickers on it, but Hey. The louder the better. Buahahahahahaaa
I will probably be up early. Around 5:00 AM. Will spend a couple of hours on the net looking at various Niner stories, and then a couple of hours checking out the pre-game coverage on ESPN and the NFL network. Will head over to the Stick around 10:00. Park at our usual spot on Tunnel road along the railroad tracks. My Friends and I will then walk over to Picolo Pete’s for lunch. (We decided a few years ago it was it was too much of a hassle to lug BBQ grills around. Beer and Picolo Pete’s godfather sandwich seems a better pre-game food alternative).
Will be in our seats by 1:00 ready to cheer on the Niners to a huge win.
Go Niners.
Rick……You dont lug in bbq grills. You drive them in. Is it the 40 dollars? lol
Anyone needing a little extra “pump-up” or youngsters needing a history lesson, the 1981 49ers is on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53oLctnRLG4
I miss John Facenda’s voice but Gene Hackman did a nice job with this :)
Let’s go Niners! Let’s go!
lol I was watching The Catch game the other night on NFL Network, and was looking at the fans. Smoking cigs and drinking. Those were the days. I remember my Dad smokings in the Grocery store. Man how times have changed in 30 years. This could be the start of the new dynasty.
Fred Dean smoking Kools at half-time always cracks me up.
Yeah, definitely different times for sure.
thnx ….
The Hulu version is a bit cleaner: http://www.hulu.com/watch/123685/americas-game-1981-san-francisco-49ers
I’ll be at the game.
I’ll be at a friend’s house with 6 other die-hard 49ers fans.
There will be beer. A lot of beer. Mostly Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA.
It may be drunk in celebration or to drown our sorrows but one way or the other it will be drunk. As will I. I apologize in advance for any drunken posts Saturday night. Grant may want to ban me in advance. I’m totally cool with that.
Msclemons – I am slowly changing my opinion of you. I’d like to see you add Sierra Nevada to your beer list before I completely change my mind though. Samuel Smith may persuade me too! :-)
Sierra Nevada Torpedo is #2 on my preferred beer list. Lagunitas IPA is #3
I really like IPAs with a lot of hops.
SN Torpedo’s!! That’s it, you’ve done it msclemons.
I will try the Lagunitas IPA soon and give you my review bro! :-)
I love seeing all the positivity in these comments. I guess that’s what happens when you start winning. The haters disappear and the support comes out. Very happy that people are starting to show Alex Smith some love… Ive always thought he could be winner, and I’m all in with him being the QB of the future. Also, I will be watching the game from UR 62 Row 7 at candlestick park and im very excited. IN HARBAUGH WE TRUST
Hey 88 we always need to hope for the best but saying that Harbaugh also strikes me as a lets prepare for the worst also, so if and when it just isn`’t working with Alex and do not get me wrong I hope he is a rich gannon and gets better with age, but Kaepernick could develop with the pressure off while our team requires even better pieces. But this fun and we need to enjoy it all who knows for sure what the future brings!
Don’t know why, but as I read all this Niner enthusiasm, the same 3 words keep running through my mind, so…
SPRINT RIGHT OPTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@dr
Let’s get a new play instead.
That play was for the old guys. For the old Dynasty. Let them keep that for themselves.
It is difficult to go forward when you spend your time looking at where you’ve already been. If you do that you may walk into a great many walls and ultimately not get very far as the rest of the world passes you by.
Sounds good to me…I think if there are last play heroics by this team to win tomorrow, it will more likely be a defensive play…maybe the Saints will get stopped trying to win on SRO.
Well said dr.
Why is it when a defense makes the big play to win the game (JS in Philly and Giant game, Grant in what was it Seattle(?), And just general good D in the last game) it is always called “lucky”?
But when a QB not named AS has 5 comeback wins, it is “skill”.
Interesting perspective of how people look at football.
@DS
It’s okay if people don’t respect AS (or this whole team). The ’81 niners were full of nobodies, but their success turned them into somebodies! One game at a time…and after our 6th Lombardi, they’ll start giving us our respect. Unfortunately for them, by that point we’ll have a serious chip on our shoulder and that’s when we become an prime time NFL bully!
GO NINERS!
