Harbaugh and 49er tradition

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat just posted the article I wrote for their Sunday paper. It’s about the art gallery that’s growing on the hallway outside the team’s meeting rooms. Not just everyone can view the gallery, though. Only players and coaches and certain football-related personnel can. 49ers public relations director Bob Lange graciously invited me in to see it this week. In my article, I describe it and I explain it’s meaning. To read my article, click here.

    Another good read, Grant.

And speaking of Justin Smith, I hope someone got a pic of him bulldozing a Saints’ blocker all the way through the pocket to get to Brees, then reaching OVER the blocker with one arm to grab Brees by the collar and destroy the pass. . .

Is this guy Superman, or what?

  2. Razoreater says:

Its up to the Team to get the job done. Now is the time. Knock the Giants out!

  3. MWNiner says:

    razor ..

    I’d settle for someone just knocking out Eli … :-}

Very cool article, Grant. Thanks for the continuing insight.

A heavyweight match-up. Harbaugh is faster on his feet and beats the opponent to the punch. Coughlin is slower and looks for the knockout, he loads up and doesn’t throw combinations. Harbaugh is always moving and you never get a clear shot at him. Harbaugh stands up between rounds while Coughlin sits on his stool. Harbaugh by late KO.

    Grant,
Wonderful article, its nice to see the 49ers are remembering and honoring their past without living in it. But instead creating their own legacy while standing on the shoulders of giants (no pun intended).

My hope for today is for the 9ers to win with a consistently good offensive performance as I expect the weather to help the offense provided its not extremely windy. This would be another big step in building their confidence.
Also what is everyone’s prediction on the magic number that the 49ers must get to in order to win. Im going high with 30 to 34 as I expect the Giants to get around 28.

7 hours til “you mighty men” begin the extermination of the the N.Y. FOOTBALL Giants!

  8. Max says:

One of your best, Grant! Superbly written! And superbly timed since in a few more hours our guys’ll be running onto the field at Candlestick in a bid to make yet more history. Thanks!

  9. Crab15 says:

    Damn, Joe Paterno died.

    • Stan says:

After 62 years -he gave Sandusky a knife..and Jerry used it. Life isnt fair, and never will be.

      • Crab15 says:

Stan – Bowman will have extra motivation today for Joe Pa.
Would love to see Bowman do something special today.

    • Stan says:

Hope so Crab. I know Paterno didnt lead a hidden evil life for 62 years to have it end so sadly. Sandusky was a manipulator..and just had Paterno cornered to where maybe he didnt do whats right, but self protective. Its like Sandusky found a weakness in Paterno he could exploit. He might as well have killed Joe as well as those kids.

  10. Stan says:

I wonder how long he can be so controling and with trivial micro managing?..its just amazing how winning makes it palatable. Otherwise, its like time spent at a beauty parlor-ask Hue how that turned out.

  11. Stan says:

Anyways…Go 49ers,back to some light in the room for people.

  12. Matt49erFan831 says:

Win or lose everybody, its been a magical season, a great ride. I’m glad we’ve all been a part of it. Only the ride doesn’t end today. Super Bowl bound!

  13. BigP says:

I read that police officers are posing as Giants fans in the parking lot today. Give me a break. As soon as the Stick turns into a great, rowdy home-field advantage they look to sanitize it. It’s football, if you like the opposing team go watch a game in their stadium. As the great Terry Tate once said, “You know you can’t bring that weak-a$$ stuff up in this humpty-bumpty. You know that baby! Or else you in for a loooooooooonnnng day, a looooooooooonnnng daaaay!”

    • Crab15 says:

BigP – I agree one billion percent bro!!
Ravens tied it! HarBowl still in play.

        @niner61

I would like to think our fans are just flat out better than other teams fans, and don’t do stupid things like what happened to you in ’87.

And if such a thing did happen, I would be pissed big time if stadium security was not responsive.

I fully endorse having secret stadium security.

    • niner61 says:

There is a big difference between backing your team big time and being a stupid idiot threatening other people at the game. Had some idiot throw a cherry bomb that landed 10 feet from my wife and me as well as a bunch of other people at the Stick back in the 87. I’ve got no tolerance anymore for stupid fans at all.

  14. big niner says:

A Ny giants fan singing the national anthem today….east coast bias again.

  15. Stan says:

CBS showed a clip of the Harbaughs-father,sons,son in law at a table talking about family philosophy. And Jim said his father taught them “To win is most important”..then John, said No, he taught us to compete”..Jim smiled and pounded the table with his fist ” Ha,we must have heard it different-because I heard, you must WIN!”..
I think John would have made the better gym coach..Jim though is the maniacal one to get to the Super Bowl. And WIN!

  16. Stan says:

Brady-showing his age. He’s missed open recievers.

  17. DS94everXev says:

That is 25% red-zone TD rate for TB today. (1 for 4)

Niner fans got mad at AS for having a 33% rate season long.

Also note that the Pats are winning 16-10 with that low redzone TD rate. Just like the Niners did so many times this year.

  18. Andrew from Rishikesh says:

Each possession is magnified in these big games.

  19. Bayareafanatic says:

    Alex Smith ladies and gentlemen…

  20. Pablo says:

It was a thrilling game, a hard fought contest. Against an excellent team you can’t have ANY muffs. The Niners had three major ones. The ball stripped in the end zone that would have been a TD, the contact with the shin on the kickoff reception and the fumble on the last punt reception. Wow.

Even with the loss, I’m proud of the Niners. They did us proud this season. Kudos to Jim Harbaugh for excellent, meticulous coaching and for being an outstanding motivator for the team.

There were many great memories, multiple outstanding plays by the defense, this season. I’ll never forget what Alex Smith did in the fourth qtr when playing New Orleans in the playoffs.
