Live blog: 49ers @ Rams

Here’s the live blog for the Niners Week 17 game in St. Louis against the Rams. I’ll be updating this throughout the game from home.

9:30 Patrick Willis is active and starting ahead of Larry Grant at inside linebacker for the first time in four weeks.

Two Minute Warning

Ted Ginn Jr (ankle), Kyle Williams (concussion) and Delanie Walker (jaw) are not active. Neither are Scott Tolzien, Shawntae Spencer, Mike Person or Ian Williams.

Brett Swain will start next to Michael Crabtree at wide receiver and Joe Hastings is the third and final wideout on the active roster.

The Rams win the toss and defer possession.

First Quarter

10:03 Kendall Hunter returns the kickoff to the SF 22 before he slips.

10:03 Alex Smith completes a pass to Vernon Davis in the left flat for nine yards on first down.

10:03 Frank Gore runs off left tackle for three yards and first down.

10:05 Two tight ends, one back set. Frank Gore runs up the middle for no gain, then gets subbed out for Kendall Hunter.

10:06 Smith completes a short pass to Vernon Davis in the right flat for five yards. Third and five.

10:07 The Rams bring an overload blitz from the right, the Niners pick it up and Smith completes a short pass to Davis over the middle for nine yards and a first down.

10:07 The Rams blitz again, the Niners pick it up again, Smith play fakes and completes a pass to Michael Crabtree over the middle for 16 yards. Great execution so far on this drive.

10:08 Frank Gore runs up the middle for a one yard gain. The Rams are stacking the box to take away the inside run.

10:09 Colin Jones sprints across the formation, faking the fly sweep. Smith flips the ball to Kendall Hunter who runs the opposite direction for five yards. Third and four.

10:09 The Rams bring a safety blitz and the Niners can’t pick this one up. Smith rolls to the left and throws the ball out of bounds.

10:10 David Akers hooks the 48-yard field goal attempt wide right. This drive ends like so many other Niners drives have in the past. They move the ball well between the 20s, throwing effectively on first downs. Then they get into the Rams territory, run on first and second down, fail to convert on third down and settle for a field goal attempt. If Greg Roman goes conservative in the same situations against the Saints in the playoffs, the Niners will lose.

10:12 From the STL 38, Steven Jackson runs up the middle and gets tackled by Parys Haralson for no gain.

10:13 Kellen Clemens play fakes and completes a 24 yard pass to Brandon Lloyd in Dashon Goldson’s area. First down.

10:14 Jackson runs for seven yards off right tackle. Second and three.

10:14 Jackson up the middle for ten yards on the wham run.

10:15 Ray McDonald tackles Jackson from behind after a three-yard gain.

10:16 Clemens misses Lance Kendricks in the end zone. Incomplete. Third and seven.

10:16 Clemens runs away from Aldon Smith in the pocket and scrambles 18 yards for a touchdown. 7-0 Rams. Donte Whitner missed a tackle at the goal line.

10:19 Hunter bobbles the kickoff in the end zone so he takes a knee for the touchback.

10:21 This is the second straight game the Niners defense has given up a touchdown on the opening drive on the road.

10:22 Alex Smith lets it roll. He hands off to Hunter who runs off right tackle for seven yards.

10:23 Gore runs a counter to the right and loses a yard. Third and four.

10:23 The Rams blitz a fifth rusher and Smith throws behind Brett Swain. Incomplete. The Niners are 1 for 3 on third down and now Andy Lee has to punt. He kicks it out of bounds at the STL 8 – a 66 yard punt.

10:26 Bowman knocks away Clemens’ short pass over the middle.

10:27 Ahmad Brooks tackles Jackson after he gains five yards up the middle. Third and five.

10:28 Bowman blitzes and Justin Smith sacks Clemens for an eight yard loss.

10:28 The Rams punt to Reggie Smith who returns it 10 yards to the STL 33. This is the time for Greg Roman to call pass plays on fist and second down.

10:31 Roman calls a play-fake screen on first down. Smith completes the pass to Hunter who picks up 11 yards. Great play design, play call and execution.

10:32 And then Roman goes conservative. Gore up the middle for two.

10:32 Smith completes a short pass to Crabtree in the right flat. Crabtree breaks one tackle at the first down marker and ends up gaining 10 yards and the first down.

10:33 First and goal from the ten, Gore up the middle for 2. Atrocious play call by Roman.

10:34 Smith drops back to throw but decides no one’s open, so he throws the ball out of bounds. Third and goal from the eight.

10:34 Smith calls kill, drops back, evades a rusher and slips, gets up and scrambles eight yards for a touchdown. Great effort by Smith, Justin Peelle and Frank Gore also had key blocks on the play. 7-7. Alex Smith performed better on that possession than Greg Roman the play caller did.

10:37 On the kickoff return Colin Jones tackles Norwood at the STL 13.

10:38 Clemens play fakes and completes a wild pass to Kendricks across his body for 19 yards.

Second Quarter

10:40 Bruce Miller tweaked his knee and left the game. Moran Norris takes his place.

10:41 Jackson up the middle for two.

10:41 Jackson up the middle for five more. Third and three.

10:42 Norwood takes a handoff and throws a dead duck back across the field to Clemens. Tarell Brown easily picks off the duck and returns it to the STL 34.

10:43 Smith completes a quick pass to Crabtree on a WR screen to the left. Gain of six.

10:44 With Gore lineup up the backfield in I-formation, Smith throws another WR screen to Crabtree, this one to the right. Crabtree breaks a tackle with a stiff arm and runs 28 yards into the end zone for a touch down. 14-7 Niners. Those were two very good play calls back-to-back by Roman, and a great play by Crabtree for the score.

10:47 Anthony Dixon and C.J. Spillman tackle Norwood at the STL 17 n the kickoff return.

10:49 False start on the Rams’ Harvey Dahl. First and 15 from the 12.

10:50 Cadillac Williams up the middle for three. This game will be over real soon if Josh McDaniels calls more plays like that.

10:51 Williams takes an inside handoff up the middle for six. Third and six.

10:51 Bowman blitzes again, and Ahmad Brooks sacks Clemens on a stunt. The Rams punt from their end zone, but they get called for a holding penalty before the kick. Re-do.

10:53 Tramaine Brock comes close to blocking the punt in the end zone. Madieu Williams gets flagged for a block in the back. The Niners will start at their own 33 yard line.

10:56 Smith uses a hard count and the Rams get flagged for a neutral zone infraction. First and five.

10:57 From the shotgun, Smith hands off to Hunter who runs up the middle for three.

10:58 Isaac Sopoaga’s in the game as an extra FB. Gore runs up the middle for two yards. First and ten.

10:59 Smith play fakes, the offensive line gives him plenty of time, and Smith completes a 44-yard pass to Davis on a wheel route down the right sideline.

11:00 Smith follows that great pass up by taking a sack for seven yard loss. The Rams blitzed up the middle on that one and Hunter missed a block.

11:01 Roman calls a screen to Hunter but the Rams break the play up. Third and 17.

11:01 Smith completes a quick screen to Crabtree for a one-yard gain. This red zone trip was doomed as soon as Smith took that sack.

11:02 David Akers makes the 36-yard field goal. 17-7 Niners with 7:17 left in the second quarter.

11:04 Touchback Akers.

11:05 Jackson off left tackle for three yards. Haralson called for hands to the face. First down Rams.

11:05 Jackson up the middle for no gain. Second and ten.

11:06 Kendricks drops Clemens pass. Third and ten.

11:07 From the shotgun Clemens fumbles the snap. The Rams recover and on fourth down they punt to Reggie Smith who returns it to the SF 34.

11:09 Smith fumbles the snap from under center, picks it up and throws the ball out of bounds.

11:15 Hunter takes a pitch sweep to the left, cuts back and picks up six on first down.

11:15 Smith completes a quick pass to Brett Swain on a out route to the left for six yards a first down.

Two Minute Warning

11:18 Hunter runs through a huge hole up the middle for 13 yards.

11:19 Hurry up offense. Smith completes a pass to Hunter for no gain.

11:19 Smith completes a pass to Davis on a shallow crossing route for 7 yards. Third and three.

11:20 Robert Quinn beats Joe Staley and hits Smith as he throws. The ball bounces in front of Joe Hastings incomplete. David Akers makes the 42-yard field goal. 20-7 with one minute left in the first half.

11:47 On second down Hunter runs a pitch sweep to the right and loses a yard. Third and five.

11:48 Smith hits Crabtree on a quick slant for five yards and a first down.

11:50 Dixon runs up the middle for two yards. Gore’s helmet is off on the sideline.

11:51 Smith’s pass is batted down at the line of scrimmage. It seems like that happens at least once a game to No. 11. Third and eight.

11:52 The Rams overload blitz the left side of the Niners line and sack Alex Smith immediately. Lee punts and the Rams will start their drive at their 27.

12:33 Smith rolls right and throws the ball out of bounds.

12:33 On third and nine Smith checks down to Dixon who picks up for six yards.

12:34 Nick Miller lets Lee’s punt bounce at the STL five, so he falls on the ball at the 4, but there are offsetting penalties so Lee will re-punt.

12:36 Tramaine Brock downs Lee’s 64-yard punt at the STL one yard line.

12:39 Clemens play fakes and throws an interception right to Tarell Brown, who runs the ball down to the STL 13. That’s Brown’s second INT of the day. He’s having a very good season, and he will start at cornerback next year, too.

12:48 On the kick return Larry Grant tackles Norwood at the STL 31.

12:49 Clemens completes a short pass to Lloyd in front of Culliver, who gets called for a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty for body slamming Lloyd after the play.

12:58 Cadillac Williams runs up the middle for a one-yard touchdown. Bowman missed him in the backfield. 34-27 Niners with 4:36 left.

1:03 Smith holds on to the ball forever and takes a sack. Crabtree was double covered, but Swain was open. Smith didn’t want to take a shot at Swain deep, apparently.

1:05 Lee punts to Nick Miller, who’s tackled at the STL 47 with 3:37 left.

1:06 Clemens gets flushed out of the pocket to the right and he throws on the run, but Tramaine Brock knocks the pass away.

1:06 Clemens throws to Lloyd who drops the pass. Brown never turned around to find the ball. Big break. Third and ten.

1:07 Clemens scrambles and hits Gibson in front of Rogers. Gain of 21. First and ten at the SF 33.

1:08 Clemens throws incomplete, intended for Gibson again.

1:08 Bowman blitzes and sacks Clemens, who’s down on the turf with a right ankle injury, it appears. He’s assisted off the field. Tom Brandstater is in the game at QB. Third and 17.

1:11 Brandstater throws a ground ball to Alexander. Fourth and 17.

1:11 Alexander drops the first down pass – let it bounce right off his hands. The Niners take over on downs with 2:37 left.

1:12 Smith can’t get the offense lined up properly, so Harbaugh calls timeout and barks at his quarterback.

1:14 Dixon runs off right tackle for four yards. The Rams take their last timeout.

1:14 Dixon powers through the middle for five yards. Third and one.

1:17 Dixon runs off right tackle for three yards and a first down.

1:18 Smith takes a knee. The Niners will hold on and win this one 34-27. They finish the 2011 regular season 13-3. I predicted they would win the division with a 9-7 record. Boy, did they outperform my expectations.

  1. Fourth & Alex says:

It’s going to be interesting with Reggie Smith and Culliver returning kicks. Both in terms of field position and turnovers.

    • big niner says:

I just hope reggie holds on to the ball. Culliver has world class speed, I think some where in the 4-3′s. I hope we put them out early so we can see our back ups especially CK play a good amount.

  2. Hov says:

Let’s go 9ers everyday all day!!!!! Joe Hastings? Wow

  3. AES says:

I’m sure P.Will is ‘chomping at the bit’ to play, but why not sit him out rather then risk any further injury. L.Grant has done a good job and at this point I would not have an issue with him starting this game.

Hopfully the 49ers take a big lead by halftime and rest their starters in the second half. Don’t want to any injuries at stage.

  4. Razoreater says:

If we can come out of this game without a special teams turnover or an offensive turnover we will win. I’m nervous with anybody but Mr. Ginn catching and securing the football on punts and kr’s. I’m nervous these noob receivers run the correct routes and secure the football. Go 49ers!!

  5. Adam707 says:

Lets get the W Niners. We need this

  6. JohnJPDX says:

Feeling good about this game. Hope to see the starters sit out the second half.

  7. big niner says:

    kh returning

  8. big niner says:

DW has a broken jaw? wow he should be out for the rest of the year. And even if he comes back, won’t his mouth be wired shut? losing weight and strength.

  9. BigP says:

    A healthy dose of V.D.

  10. big niner says:

Interested to see How Peele plays today. He my high school alumn.

  11. JohnJPDX says:

Too bad about that. Gives Rams hope.

  12. BigP says:

The only thing worse then settling for a field goal is missing it.

  13. Fesnyc says:

Even a pro bowler misses once in a while. Time to start a new streak for the playoffs

  14. Fourth & Alex says:

Game hasn’t started very well. Defense is asleep. Offense sucks like usual.

  15. big niner says:

    2 nd rushing td allowed.

  16. BigP says:

TD’s always beat FG’s, especially missed ones. These guys need to get it together. Rushing TD’s allowed back to back weeks.

  17. Adam707 says:

    Well this looks horrible

  18. Fesnyc says:

Didnt realize bradford was sitting. D needs to take this game seriously mo reason to lose to clemens and a 2 win team

  19. JohnJPDX says:

ok no more FG for us. Here’s the shoot out challenge for JH and AS.

  20. undercenter says:

Defense seems slugish offense back to its same ways moving the ball then get down in scoring area and falls apart. They are going to have to do better then this in playoffs.

  21. big niner says:

Freddy P soft is in the building. Has been for a while now. I think he’s in the D’s huddle. Come on D!!!! these are the lambs and this is their superbowl.

  22. AES says:

Spagnalo won the coin-toss and elected to defend. What is he saying about the 49ers offense? Well, so far, he’s played his cards right.
    C’mon, guys ‘wake-up!’

  23. Medic One says:

The rams need to win this game for us to be able to trade Indy for Luck. I said it over a month ago, the colts are old, they’d take 2 firsts and a second for that number one pick. Our team is young and we can give up this draft. We win we kick ourselves in the teeth. Our offense is a year at least away from a superbowl. I am just stoked they made the playoffs!

  24. Hoferfan67 says:

Can they throw on 2nd down? Come on GR…

  25. undercenter says:

    hell of a punt

  26. Stan says:

Worst part is-its dont matter. If they come back and win-so what? if they lose-so what?..Better they lose and play more playoff games. More fun then.

  27. JohnJPDX says:

    Lee = MVP

  28. Bayareafanatic says:

Game manager 0-2 on 3rd down and the line gave him all kinds of time.

  29. Shoup says:

Wow, Gore has looked bad for the last several weeks if he doesnt start to play better we dont have a chance against the better teams in the NFL.

  30. Shoup says:

Ok so now were at the 35 yard line, we really need to score a touchdown here just to prove that we can.

  31. Stan says:

Its scary -on Palladium ch. right now, that after all these years Def Lepard is considered some iconic rock band. To me -just another Loverboy 80′s semi crap.
    Just dropped that in.

  32. big niner says:

great field position set up by Lee. Let’s go get 7 now.

  33. JohnJPDX says:

Now’s time for Roman to show he can score on a short field.

  34. AES says:

We may be in for a long day if Akers has an off-day.

  35. Hoferfan67 says:

Come on GR…can you call something other than two runs on 1st and 2nd down?

  36. Bayareafanatic says:

    Love the middle screen look.

  37. NickRow says:

Screen plays to Hunter always seem to work

  38. big niner says:

wow a screen how about that?

  39. Fourth & Alex says:

Here we go again. Red Zone.

  40. big niner says:

8 in the box. our recievers need to step up.

  41. Hoferfan67 says:

Good job MC fighting for yds…about time.

  42. Bayareafanatic says:

    Crabs is a stud.

  43. Hoferfan67 says:

The run needs to work in the RZ…AS take off!

  44. JohnJPDX says:

    not another run

  45. big niner says:

no crossing patterns, chip plays …..Roman get your head out of your ass!!

  46. DS94everXev says:

What a great punter and D do for you!

Get about 40 yards of field position. Hidden yardage.

  47. undercenter says:

    WTG Alex

  48. Bayareafanatic says:

    Finally. Makes a play.

  49. BigP says:

NIce! Take the bull by the horns and make a play!

  50. big niner says:

    Did he audible into that?

  51. JohnJPDX says:

    Butt ugly but it worked

  52. Hoferfan67 says:

    AS with GRIT!

  53. Hoferfan67 says:

Saints have receivers that catch the ball.

  54. Stan says:

Alex Smith is looking like Andy Luck. Never would have thought..

  55. BigP says:

I always crack up when they refer to Alex Smith as an “underrated athlete” when he was drafted in part because of his athleticism. He was a spread option QB in college, he can run.

  56. Bayareafanatic says:

    Pats down 14-0

  57. Fourth & Alex says:

They should just send Alex run free on some draws and naked bootlegs in the playoffs when we’re in the red zone. It’s our best chance at making that one extra play we need to score 6s instead of 3s.

  58. AES says:

Right Hofe, but how about the ‘beastly’ blocks from Peele and Gore?

  59. Shoup says:

Nice run Alex, way to make something out of nothing.

  60. DS94everXev says:

    AS for MVP!

  61. Fesnyc says:

That play looked ugly til Alex made something of it

  62. undercenter says:

    Bills up 21 on Pats

  63. Medic One says:

I remember when Jackson was saying no on in the league could tackle him one on one…How things have changed

  64. Hoferfan67 says:

    TB…int too easy

  65. BigP says:

Not a very smart play by the Rams, good for us.

  66. Hoferfan67 says:

MC finally showed some burst…looked good.

  67. big niner says:

The panther’s a swinging with th saints

  68. undercenter says:

Crabtree looks like he came to play

  69. tkamB says:

    Great play by Crabtree!

  70. big niner says:

    TD #15

  71. Bayareafanatic says:

    Crabs is elite.

  72. Stan says:

Yep- another grind it out inevitable win. Like, amazing. The same over and over.

  73. AES says:

    Yes, Crabtree! Our #1 R’cvr!

  74. Fesnyc says:

    Nice! More od that, please

  75. BigP says:

How about that YAC for Crabs? It’s funny how he does it when he gets a chance.

  76. big niner says:

    Grant,
Remind me. Could Crabstree have high stepped into the end zone or would he have been flagged?

  77. Wow says:

That high step looking real good

  78. Stan says:

I -as you all know ENDORSED crabs as no.1 pick back then. I was critiqued by SF Gate people. The evil ones…

  79. DS94everXev says:

    Too easy

    14-7!

  80. AES says:

Get your “High Step On” Crab!

  81. Hoferfan67 says:

MC’s foot must have healed or is being maintained…looking better.

  82. AES says:

    ELITE DEFENSE! PERIOD!!

  83. AES says:

Hofe, truth be told, Crabtree has been our ‘best’ R’cvr over the last 4-5 weeks.

    • Hoferfan67 says:

      Agree. Not much competition.

      • BigP says:

        Hofer,
Tweaking Crabs doesn’t make Smith look any better.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

BigP, what are you talking about??

      • BigP says:

You seem to really go after Crabs, I don’t get it. He has played very well this year.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

BigP, hasn’t MC had a bad foot and isn’t he the best WR? What’s your point?

      • AES says:

“not much competition” can you expound? That comment almost has a ‘forced’ approval to it.

      • BigP says:

You constantly tweek the guy. Like I said, I don’t get it. He is our best WR and he did have a hurt foot. That doesn’t change the fact that he has played very well this year, all year long. He makes a play and your attitude is like “It’s about time” or “finally.” He can only do so much by himself.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

You seem overly sensitive especially when it relates to MC. Have mimosa and take the edge off…

      • BigP says:

        Hofer,
You rip the receivers all the time. You try to talk about it being a team game when it benefits Alex and then lay blame on everybody but him when things go bad. Give me a break.

  84. msclemons67 says:

I just realized – Thank God Lynch got the TD last week or the 1st rushing TD given up this year would have been to Kellen Clemens

  85. Adam707 says:

Crab having a great season considering his injury that sidelined him for basically the 1st three games. Looking good now. Petal to the medal Niners

  86. Bayareafanatic says:

    Brees big Int.

  87. DS94everXev says:

    Good job Brooks!

    One for my fav JS.
    One for Brooks

    Just need 1 for AS

  88. Neal says:

Not to start looking at the off season but Larry Grant is going to get a big fat contract with another team, he would be starting for most teams in the NFL.

  89. undercenter says:

Bruce Miller hurt that not good

  90. Hoferfan67 says:

Give AS time and he hits his MAN.. Great throw!

  91. Fourth & Alex says:

“10:03 Kendall Hunter returns the kickoff to the SF 22 before she slips.”

Lol Grant was that a dig?

  92. Bayareafanatic says:

Gore has got to be hurt. He runs differently now.

  93. msclemons67 says:

Nice play, but why did VD jump to catch a waist high pass? Is he that conditioned to high passes?

  94. Hoferfan67 says:

MC not an open field runner…pick the hole and GO1

  95. JohnJPDX says:

Would have made more just running straight ahead

  96. big niner says:

    ????????// 3-17? what’s that

  97. JohnJPDX says:

VD has that bad habit of jumping for any pass above his knees.

  98. Wow says:

Our “Alex” with a whooping 126.8 QB rating ..WOW.

  99. 49er42 says:

    MS
Bad habit. VD makes too many body catches. He needs to catch the ball with his hands like Crabtree does.

  100. AES says:

The Alex ‘deifyers’ are at it again. Why didn’t you guys mentioned the fact that if Alex had led VD with the pass instead of throwing a lame duck, it could have been a TD. The ‘Blamers’ are in full force today!

  101. undercenter says:

Rams bringing back memories of Niners in the past. They arnt looking good.

  102. Fourth & Alex says:

Someone tell Reggie Smith to turn upfield. He looks like Anthony Dixon out there.

  103. Wow says:

    our run game is pathetic.

    • msclemons67 says:

should have rested Gore. He doesn’t look right. Hope they sit him 2nd half and let him get his legs fresh for playoff games.

      • Bayareafanatic says:

I don’t think Gores legs are tired. It looks like hes changed his leg drive. Like he’s compensating for an injury.
At this point can’t envision him being a starter next year.

      • msclemons67 says:

Hurt, tired – either way, they need to sit him

  104. DS94everXev says:

Come on JS! Need to make that play!

  105. Wow says:

hope Aldon gets his sack here.

  106. big niner says:

    let’s go Aldon

  107. big niner says:

    reggie fumbles…..good lord.

  108. Stan says:

Funny how Smith barks like an angry southern bluesman at the line..then in postgame ..he’s meek and soft spoken. He’s enjoying this season for all its worth..

  109. Andrew from Rishikesh says:

Panthers have 135 yards rushing in the first half against Saints.

  110. big niner says:

    lets go

  111. msclemons67 says:

    uh-oh, in the Akers Zone

  112. Stan says:

    Grind-grind,grind,grind…and pull away. A formula.

  113. Bayareafanatic says:

    Carolina ties the game.

  114. AES says:

Hofe, not attacking, just being fair in metting out critique and praise.
We know it ‘irks’ you to admit that MC has been one of the best R’cvr’ over the last 4-5 games. Stop using condencending verbage when giving MC half-hearted praise. I said earlier that MC has been our best R’cvr’ over the last 4-5 games, and you replied; “Agreed, but not much competition.”
C’mon, Hofe, a subtle attack is still an attack.

    • Bayareafanatic says:

He’s always done that. See if he agrees that MC is elite then his sub par performances can be blamed on Alex. This group can’t have that.

    • Hoferfan67 says:

Bay, what are you talking about? Have you by AES’s definition been subtle in you critique of FG today? The receivers are 5th in drops in the league…FACT.

      • msclemons67 says:

The Packers have 1 less drop. Just saying.

      • Bayareafanatic says:

MC is a sure handed receiver. His success lies in the arm of number 11 period. Frank Gores success is on him and his Oline. It’s obvious to everyone watching Gore has not been Gore for a while.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

MSC, how many more pass attempts…just saying.

      • redhanddan says:

If Packers have one less drop but throw the ball twice as much WHAT DOES THAT SAY?

  115. Adam707 says:

Very surprising that playoff tickets were only 150 bucks. i was expecting much more

  116. anewtoi says:

how about tim “rock” ryan commentating during the game, talking about harbaugh, says “winning breads confidence, so does a common sense intelligent game plan” CLASSIC!!!
Also, last week a caller calls in to the Schein and Gannon show and asks “whats the biggest difference between last year and this, could singletary possibly be that bad? adam schein emphatically says “YES”, while gannon could be heard LOL. very loudly.

  117. anewtoi says:

    “dominate the details”

  118. msclemons67 says:

Good thing Willis played today. Looks like he needs to have the rust knocked off a bit.

  119. big niner says:

I want to see our Wr’s involved

  120. msclemons67 says:

Nice quick throw there – that was sweet for the 1st

  121. big niner says:

    I love that sweep play.

  122. Stan says:

Did I miss any double reverse flea flicker statue ot Libertys?…

  123. Stan says:

A harbaugh offense is like watching three hours of a Swiss watch tick.

  124. NickRow says:

This is not the time to relax

  125. adam says:

Clemens looks pretty good today. Much better than aj feely.

  126. big niner says:

    boom

  127. msclemons67 says:

doink! How the heck did that go through? lol

  128. jgwindsor says:

secondary still remains pretty soft between the 20′s…..against the GB and NO rcvrs there are sure to be plenty of YAC…..

OL is still a work in progress…albeit the progress has been OK for the year but it does break down on critical plays quite often

these should be enough shin kickers to keep practices motivated

  129. big niner says:

Lets get the ball now and drive slowly and get a TD. Finish out the quarter and let our backups play.

  130. big niner says:

our Di takes out Rb’s that 6 this year.

  131. big niner says:

    yes please!

  132. 49er42 says:

Let’s not just try to run time off the clock. I would love to see three passes in a row and at least one for over 15 yards, and on first down.
The goal should be to score two or more touchdowns.

  133. NickRow says:

    Alex still has accuracy issues

  134. Bayareafanatic says:

Vernon needs to seal the end on that play.

  135. undercenter says:

This is the best I have seen Crabs play. Looks like he wants it real bad.

  136. AES says:

Crabtree is playing in the zone! And, yes Hofe, Alex is making some very good passes. Alex was just ‘money’ on that pass to VD!

  137. Bayareafanatic says:

    Nice throw over the linebacker!

  138. msclemons67 says:

The return of the seam pass!

  139. undercenter says:

come on Alex make tht block its a TD

  140. Medic One says:

Shame the receiving coach still hasn’t fixed Vernon’s technique…He still jumps each time he catches the ball. Without the jump, you are looking at 6 points.

  141. JohnJPDX says:

AS makes that block that’s not a bad play

  142. undercenter says:

    alright!!!

  143. DS94everXev says:

    Great throw by AS!

  144. BigP says:

That was the shizz. David Akers showing stunning red zone accuracy.

  145. Bayareafanatic says:

Pass was 10 yards out of bounds.
On another note, tired of seeing Vernons ass crack.

  146. msclemons67 says:

    The Akers Zone!!!

    Awesome.

  147. Stan says:

At least the Zoe Dechannel commercials are interesting…. Hey! trick play. H man heard me.

  148. adam says:

Red zone Akers to crabs! love it!

  149. AES says:

Don’t mess with Harbaugh & Co.
C’mon rams, that was totally your mistake!

  150. Pork_Bun_Luncheon says:

BAF, BigP, others defending Crabs with vigor!!! Good! Now apply the same loyalty to Smith, and this wall will be great again!

Hey EVERYONE, quit bitc*ing about our players. Crabs has the best pure hands since Chris Carter and Alex is clearly more than adequate, given good coaching. 13-3 and an NFL record for ball possession. Life is good. Quit treating each other so poorly.

  151. 49er42 says:

Was the missed pass before the TD a set up? The throw was way out of bounds, Crabtree was on the left side and stated out there for the “field goal” attempt.

  152. AES says:

Alright, time to pull the Starters, let Aldon break the record and get out of dodge!

  153. Andrew from Rishikesh says:

Bad teams always have plays like this happen to them.

  154. undercenter says:

Alex got his 3000 yards lets get Ck some reps

  155. Pork_Bun_Luncheon says:

Haha Clemons that was hilarious! Kim Jong Harbaugh!!!

  156. AES says:

Pork Bun, I agree with your comment, but if you have been here since training camp you know that Crabtree was ostricized on almost every level.
He was called a ‘diva’ a ‘slacker’ for not attending Camp Alex II. This continued even after Harbaugh called Crabtree a ‘good teammate’ and the news of Crabtree’ foot surgery.

That’ where the angst started Por Bun, and that is why i’m profusely enjoying Crabtree’ ‘break-out’ season!
I admire your comment Pork Bun, but there is history involved here. And maybe some of still remember the ugly attacks on Crabtree.

  157. AES says:

    some of *us

  158. msclemons67 says:

6 yard pass on 3rd and 9. Blah. Is the stench of Jimmy Raye still infecting the coaches booth?

  159. msclemons67 says:

If there are any fellow Jets haters here… Sanchize just threw away the Jets’ season.

  160. DS94everXev says:

Andy Lee for MVP of the NFL.

    Who can do that?

  161. AES says:

By the way Por Bun, are you serious about not treating others poorly after your vicious tirade about Singletary? Did you have a ‘come to Jesus’ encounter in the last 48 hours?
Suddenly you are the voice of reason. Excuse me, but i’ll have to take your admonishment with a grain of sand, dude.

  162. tkamB says:

Great play on the ball by Tarell Brown there.

  163. DS94everXev says:

    Awesome

    This is what we do.

  164. msclemons67 says:

The 49ers D is sort of cruel. They give teams a little hope and then snatch it away.

  165. BigP says:

For the love of Boobie Dixon!

  166. anewtoi says:

thats bull.. why not let hunter get his TD. peyton and the fridge anyone?

  167. anewtoi says:

hey msclemons, i hope that was a td for jason taylor. and i hope its his final play. really weird series of events

  168. DS94everXev says:

    There is 30+

How are the Rams ranked defensively compared to GB/NO?

How do GB/NO rank defensively vs. us?

    See where I’m going.

  169. undercenter says:

Well in a couple of weeks were going to find out how good we are.

  170. anewtoi says:

cmon aldon lets do it… its time

    • anewtoi says:

they’ve had aldon on either side many times and stl’s tackles are giving him all he wants. he even found his way to the ground on that td play

  171. tkamB says:

C’mon Aldon! Just need one sack!

  172. Andrew from Rishikesh says:

    Flag Football.

  173. Bayareafanatic says:

    Blitz. Nothing to lose.

  174. Bayareafanatic says:

Our Achilles heel. The deep pass. Why are we not blitzing.

  175. shawnrhod says:

Time for Aldon to get that sack

  176. anewtoi says:

why wont those pesky jets just GO AWAY? so tired of all the lip service they put out week after week.

  177. Bayareafanatic says:

Not finishing the game. Sloppy play. Time to blitz.

  178. Stan says:

The Rams are so inept,NO,WAIT-A MIRACLE COMEBACK!!!!!……..

  179. AES says:

No harm, no foul. This game is all academic. We are the #2 seed.
Love to play the Saints. Whooo! onside kick, rams recover. Starting to get interesting.

  180. BigP says:

Rams pulling out all of the tricks.

  181. BigP says:

You saw that play develop from the snap, absolutely ridiculous.

  182. undercenter says:

    bad call

  183. anewtoi says:

wtf!!! the refs been picking on T Brown all year long. he needs to “go look at the film” and adjust his game a lil

  184. msclemons67 says:

That is OFFENSIVE PI you blind dips*** ref.

  185. Medic One says:

I hope this is gut check time going into the playoff offs for this defense. Since AZ, they haven’t looked great.

  186. AES says:

49ers are playing to relaxed and it’s going to hurt them if they don’t light a fire.

  187. Bayareafanatic says:

Let’s see how good our coaching staff is. We need 3 first downs.

  188. msclemons67 says:

In an ironic twist, it’s time for the offense to bail out the defense and special teams.

  189. undercenter says:

I hope we dont go into a shell

  190. Bayareafanatic says:

    WOw.

  191. anewtoi says:

wow. as much as id hate to say it but this would be monumental

  192. Bayareafanatic says:

Biggest 3rd down of Alex’s career.

  193. Bayareafanatic says:

    CHoke…..

    • anewtoi says:

are you talking about the whole team? cuz from what i saw and what the comentators pointed out, there was blanket coverage on all the recvrs and alex woulda been a fool to chance any of them

  194. undercenter says:

ok special teams and defense u need to get it done

  195. Stan says:

    Nice clutch play Alex..

  196. Big niner says:

    Coaching to lose!!!

  197. adam says:

    Terrible.

  198. BigP says:

The Rams are horrible and have put up 27 points on the defense. This is exactly why I said the Niners will have to score around 35 points to beat New Orleans or the Packers. They are susceptible to the pass, big time.

  199. Medic One says:

I am really not a fan of this conservative game planning. Apparently this staff learned nothing from week 2 vs dallas or the second game in Az

  200. steelematic says:

    That’s ridiculous. eAl

  201. 49er42 says:

    Bay
    Who choked?
No one was open and a turn over would have been horrible.

  202. undercenter says:

    geez

  203. Medic One says:

They have a safety 35 yards back and you are trying to tell me they aren’t playing a prevent defense?

  204. tkamB says:

We had a 34-13 lead with 6 min remaining. The conservative game planning was fine, the defense needs to hold.

    • Medic One says:

Instead of trying to be confrontational with each comment you make, try reading what was written. I said “I” am not a fan of this conservative game plan. It didn’t work any week we had a lead. We lost to Az and Dallas playing it. We almost lost to NY playing it. Those are facts. I am not questioning the calls, I am merely posting my opinion on conservative game planning.

  205. Pork_Bun_Luncheon says:

AES, excuse me if I’m wrong, but Singletary is no longer a Niner, correct? Plus he buried this team for a couple years… blahblahblah. Yesterday’s vicious attack on Sing was justified as a final sayonara. Get over it.

THIS team consists of both Alex & Crabtree, two players severely battered by fans since they arrived. It’s time they get some love, the both of them.

    • AES says:

Follow your own rule here Pork Bun. Singletary IS no longer a 49er, so why the vicious attack? Whatever happened or happens to Singletary should no longer be pertinent. Let it go, and or at least apologize for your over-the-top attack especially before trying to admonish us not to treat other poorly.

  206. !all says:

Can you say Wild Card ?? hihihihihi

  207. undercenter says:

Maybe the biggest sack of the year

  208. Pork_Bun_Luncheon says:

Who is this weird hyena!? The douchey SeaBag fan.

  209. !all says:

    niners don’t deserve a bye…overrated.

  210. Bayareafanatic says:

This comeback is Fangios fault. He waited too long before sending pressure.

  211. !all says:

    niners got lucky

  212. NickRow says:

    Saved by the injury

  213. Medic One says:

I think that the organization makes a big time offer to Indy for that 1st pick. They just have to hope that Manning can play so they are willing to deal that pick away. They might bring Smith back on a 3 year contract so they can mold Luck

  214. adam says:

    Respect for Clemens.

  215. !all says:

    hihihihi

  216. AES says:

Spot on, Adam. Huge ‘props’ to Clemens, he played like a warrior.

  217. NickRow says:

Bay, that pass interference call was weak too

    • undercenter says:

      I thought so

      • Medic One says:

I thought Brown was late locating the ball and as it was happening, I thought Past Interference until I saw it slowed down in replay. So I am willing to accept it on the fact that Brown was late turning back to play the ball.

  218. BigP says:

Can the 49ers win a shootout in the playoffs? It will be very interesting to see what they have in store for that first game.

    • undercenter says:

We are about to find out.

    • Medic One says:

I think that Detroit is going to hurt NO even though NO will likely win. Our Coaching staff is superb at dismantling teams. I just hope our aggressive secondary isn’t hung out to dry. Brees had no pass rush against Carolina, so as long as we pressure Brees, it should help our secondary

  219. msclemons67 says:

    Phew!

  220. !all says:

    hihihi win dirty

  221. Pork_Bun_Luncheon says:

AES, you’d rather give props to Clemens than Alex? Really? What is that?

    • AES says:

Excuse me if I appreciate good play (in the NFL) when I see it.
I guess the proper description is called ‘good sportsmanship’ Pork Bun. It has nothing to do with Alex, don’t be offended.

    • DS94everXev says:

read the posts. It makes sense.

  222. Woody says:

Yup, you were way off. I predicted 13-3 from the get-go. Who didn’t?

  223. !all says:

This game cost JH a coach of the year award.

    • DS94everXev says:

      @!all
      Thank you for coming.

      You may leave now.

13-3 from 6-10? 2nd best team in the NFL. Yeah. The evidence supports you completely. No chance to argue with you there.

  224. 49er42 says:

    2nd seed! Excellent.
Any one hear if Kyle and Ted will be ready in two weeks?

    • msclemons67 says:

They both should be I’d imagine. Kyle was doing walk-thrus already this week as I recall.

  225. NinersRoc says:

This game should be good medicine for us (particularly our defense). We gave up too many points and big plays to one of the worst offenses in the league. I think this will keep us humble and get us pump up and angry before our next game.

  226. Stan says:

WHY isnt there a Raider live blog on PD?

  227. steelematic says:

Welcome to the playoffs. We are goin to eat off of our defense all playoff long. And weather u like alex smith or not. If he doesn’t produce a touchdowns it will be a quick one and done. Careful doesn’t lose games but it sure as Hell doesn’t win them either. our team is built on defense just like the 02 bucs and the 2000 ravens. But when push came to shove they put the ball in the endzone. What team wants to say our kicker has more points than anyone in the history of the game in a sinhle season. Its all nice in the reg season, but to hold the trophy that lombardi built, the ball has to cross the plain. That falls on alex and it falls on the coaches. Smith because even though recievers drop tha balls, he has overthrown underthrown n flat out missed more players than they have dropped balls. Some of the inconsistency foes to the coaches. Because unless u are in flat out denial, they are telling smith just don’t turn it over or they don’t trust him to make plays. So they will live with our d n special teams. We have to be prepared to see something we might not like in the playoffs. Run run run run fg and defense. Smith is gonna pass, but for all the passing he,has done in the past couple of months, none of it has come in a shootout.. Now dont u think the playoffs is a crazy place to finally be in one. I hope we slaughter whoever we play, but for all qb supportes and non supporters(notice i didnt say haters n non haters) We better be prepared for a defensive monster. Why? Because the leauge knows smith isn’t battle tested so they are gonna try n fly the ball on our pass defense. Wich i think we are prepared to handle, but they are gonna stack the box 8 n 9 deep so smith is gonna have to win those battles. My personal opinion is he won’t win them wich means our DEFENSE is gonna run us through the playoffs n Monster us to a superbowl appearance n maybe even a superbowl win… Just my opinion

  228. Stan says:

    C’mon Grant-change the ch. to 5-lol…easy.
    Raiders TD!!!!!!

We are lucky to have come out with a win in this one. 3 score lead and we just try to coast to victory like we have done so often this year. Conservative play call almost lost us this one. Not fair to point fingers at the offense really, the play calling had them basically taking a whole quarter off then they expect them to turn it on on the last drive and put it away, football doesn’t work like that. Shows we have to be more like GB and NO and play cut throat the whole game. Run up the score as much as possible. No game is ever out of hand.

  251. Prime Time says:

@adam707 just goes to show that when you have weapons in the passing game you can attack defenses. Just imagine if we had two more receivers in our offense like a JJones or Jennings? With our running game and defense we would be unstoppable.

    • Adam707 says:

I had a post the other day saying in my opinion to why Smith isn’t putting up the stats some fans want to see is because of our WR core. Crabtree i believe showed this year he can be a big time receiver for us but other than him we are weak. Williams i really like but in our type of offense he wont be as effective as he would be out of the spread. Would like to see us solidify our receiving core this offseason. If we could draft Blackmon or land a big time FA i think we’d be golden, especially with Morgan coming back. I may be dreaming though. Coaching staff may be relying on Crab, Morgan, Williams next year.

      • 23jordan says:

        Adam,

Watch the passing tree during the game. The QB does not make throws downfield very often. He throws 5 yard outs. The TD to crabtree was thrown 0 yards down field, it was all YAC. The passing tree for Smith is to protect him. Keep him out of throwing into potential coverage. Have him keep throwing quick outs or deep routes occasionally away from the safeties. That way his inaccuracy isn’t an issue.

We have a real live Jr. Game manager at QB. He can only be effective against inferior competition if our defense doesn’t dominate. Our secondary has been suspect all year.

Better hope Atlanta beats the saints in the 1st round if they play them. That way Jr game manager won’t have to face Brees.

    • 23jordan says:

Not with Smith at QB. Jr game managers are not unstoppable. Thats why they have the label of Jr game manager. They have limitations so they routinely stop themselves.

Congratulations Smith. First year ove 3000 yards in 16 games. A whopping 190 yards a game. We are ready to light it up in the playoffs now. Thank goodness for the Smith management system. Way to keep Smith out of harms way JH. Smith is Jr game manager of the month.

Better get him that extension before the playoff game. 190 yards in the playoffs is quite feeble. For those of you that claim our offense is conservative. It is that way because we can’t take any chances with the Jr game manager. We don’t need Smith to try and be a real QB. Just keep letting JH hold his hand. Someone check the screws on the training wheels. Wouldn’t want Smih to fall down and hurt himself.

      • Bayareafanatic says:

It’s not his yards that are going to hurt us, it’s his lack of redzone scoring and lack of individual playmaking ability…

      • 23jordan says:

Smithers don’t understand that the game plan is limited because his abilities are limited. We can’t even explain the gameplam to use the entire field because he doesn’t have the confidence to attempt the throws. We throw the ball sideways more than any team in the leaguers. Our passing offense is feeble. We can’t even think about stretching the field.

How do you make a play if you are afraid that it might fail? smith can’t take a chance to make a play because he doesn’t believe he can make it.

Our play soling isn’t bad, it’s limited!!!!

    • 23jordan says:

      Oneprimeninertime,

Let me know how many ducats you’d like to wager on the Jr. Game manager. The Smithers magic has finally worn off. Jr game manager throws for 165 yards against Saints and gets baffled again by that zone blitz. After the game he asks??? ” Where were all those guys coming from, it was like they had 14 guys on the field.”

We have to petition JH to at least take one training wheel off of Smiths bike. Remember, nobody expected us to be here??? We are playing with house money.

” Free the Jr game manager!!!” Just one wheel up Jim.” “Smith is ready for the next level!!!” Sr. Game manager. Joe Flacco without the deep ball!!!

The passing tree? Have you seen our WR’s lack of speed, of course not, your dialed in to judging QBs by yards passing. How can AS throw deep when they can’t get separation?
You stick to hating cause you’ve been good luck, 13-3 and yeah bring on the Saints so we can shut their coach up and you all in one setting.

    • 23jordan says:

      Primeloseroneninertime,

If desean Jackson was here, Smith would continuously under throw him all the time. He can only throw it 45 yards outdoors and 52 indoors. He’s as inaccurate as they come. Just keep the training wheels on this kid JH. separation is not the issue, accuracy is. That’s why Crabs has a whopping 3 touchdowns. The one today, ho got on his own. The Jr game manager threw that pass sideways. Hes a joke and so are you.

  265. Prime Time says:

DS AS will not command much and the Niners will not pay that much, rumor has it 3 year worth 25-30 million.

    My grades for today:

    OFFENSE:
Alex = A (once again, good managing and made the ‘important’ throws)
Gore = C- (ineffective, obviously being slowed by a ‘secret’ injury)
Hunter =B- (kept the defense honest with his quick running spurts)
B.Miller = ? – (not playing the entire game was evident in pass protection)
VD = B+ (made some significant catches and great blocks)
Crabtree = A (was responsible for 2 TD’ and becoming Alex’ ‘go-to’ R’cvr)
O-line = B- (was good but did allow a couple of sacks and hurried passes)

    DEFENSE = C+ (overall grade)
    * Nothing ‘spectacular’ here. Good 1st half, but got too ‘laxed’ in the 2nd half.

SPECIAL TEAMS = B+ (overall grade)

COACHING = B- (Par for the course. Didn’t agree with allowing P.Will play)

Except for the ‘hiccup’ in the last 5 minutes (I guess they could be excused if they were looking ahead to the playoffs), a great way to close out a GREAT season!

    GREAT ‘RIDE!’

Wakeup bozo this is who the 49ers are, figure it out cause it’s working. You want big numbers in the passing game, go watch arena football or cheer for the Saints, that way you cAn have double the crow when we beat them if they can survive DET!
As for the extension I’ll bet anything you want, as long as it includes your clown uniform!

    • NickRow says:

@Prime Time, I think your love for Alex Smith is tainting your judgement. The league is changing. The NFL is a passing league now. When was the last time we had TWO 5000 yard passers in the same season? That saying of “defense wins championships” may no longer be valid. You need a high powered passing attack in order to win championships.

      • DS94everXev says:

        @Nick

No. The best team the last 5 years are not the Pats, but the Steelers. And Pi t does it with D.

      • NickRow says:

        @DS94
Nice try. The past 5 SuperBowl winners are:
        2007: Colts
        2008: Giants
        2009: Steelers
        2010: Saints
        2011: Packers

Pittsburgh – while successful – has NOT been the best team. You can’t deny the fact that a high powered passing attack is an essential component of winning teams.

      • Pork_Bun_Luncheon says:

Too early to stake that claim. NY Giants beat most prolific offense ever with stout front 7 and clutch passing, but no big numbers. True, Brees & Rodgers have each won one without traditionally formidable defenses, but two years does not a trend make.

      • NickRow says:

        @DS94: Dana Stubblefield?

      • 23jordan says:

        Nick,

Don’t wake that idiot up. He actually thinks Smith can win a shootout with any team in the playoffs. Newsflash, our secondary has been suspect since day one this season. We all know it. Our front 7 has masked those issues in the secondary. Now we get to see our red zone issues and 3rd down inefficiency slap us in the face for the last time.

Our offense is dummied down because we don’t have a good QB. He is exactly average. He can’t throwvin space and he won’t test those small windows in the playoffs. He doesn’t understand risk/reward because he plays too cautiously.

He only has 6 picks this year. However, this is the playoffs. It’s one and done. You go for it or you go home. We don’t have a go for it type of QB.

To use a golf term, our offense and QB lays up. Brees and the Saints go for it in 2. That’s why they score and we don’t. FGs in the playoffs, NOT!

      • DS94everXev says:

How good have all those other teams been in the playoffs minus their one great year?

NO last year lost to the worse playoff team ever.

NY only was good that 1 year. AndNY D had to hold unbeatable TB from crushing them.

The Colts are the floppers ofthe past decade. Know why? Cause their D stank. And the 1 year they won…they had good D and won that title game due to good D play. PM stank. Then PM threw the Int to lose their last title shot.

The Steelers of course had good D and if Troy were not injured, AR would have found out how good.

And last year NFC Champ game the Pack Dwon that game. AR was not lights out that day.

    • 23jordan says:

      Primeoneninertime,

I don’t like Jackson, Id rather have Lil Joe Hastings. He was quite the playmaker today. I love the Jr. Game managers ability to be safe with the football. He’s even safe on 4th down. Hes a joke and so are you. where did you read about that extension again? Must be a Smithers rumor. Bwahahahahaha! Alex Smith is a good kid, just an average QB.

“We are a Sr game manager away from a playoff Win,”

      • Pork_Bun_Luncheon says:

Got lots of cred riding on next game, huh Jordo!

      • 23jordan says:

        Porky,

Yes sir I do. And I don’t have a problem with it.

      • Adam says:

So you’re picking your team to lose? Is that it?

      • 23jordan says:

        Adam,

How would I do that. I don’t even know who we’re playing. I do know that we are limited at QB and we are going to need a stellar performance from our defense. I’ll keep you posted!

      • Pork_Bun_Luncheon says:

Adam, you are astute. Either Jordo is picking his team to lose or believes the Niners will start someone other than Alex at QB in the playoffs. Those are the only two possibilities. Jordo is not a fan.

      • Adam says:

So your credibility is on the line, what does that mean? Credibility in what regard?

In order for you to be proven right, Smith has to fail. Ergo, Smith fails and we lose.

        Right?

All the so-called experts say in order to win championships you have to have an excellent defense and a strong run game. We’ve got that plus an outstanding special teams group and an offense that can grind clock. I’d say we’re in pretty decent shape, all things considered. Nobody thought we’d be this good.

  270. AES says:

Bay, I agree with your point about the Redzone issues, but with one caveat; Alex did make an athletic ‘play’ when he ran for a TD.
As long time Faithfuls, we were spoiled by watching the great Montana and Young. Alex may or may not put his name next theirs, but he is doing ‘enough’ to win. Am I an Alex lover? No. But do I respect what he’s done this season? Yes.
And Alex has done enough IMO, to warrant a new contract.

    • 23jordan says:

      AES,

I noticed today that our defense is tiring and and was reminded today that our secondary is still suspect. The fatigue comes from our OC putting pressure on our defense by the conservative game planning from our offense.

We don’t even have a solid passing play in the book for 3rd and 4. Its unbelievable that we cant get anything underneath or over the top on 3rd and 4.

Yes, Smith made a good play on the TD run. The 2 blocks by Gore and Peele were major. Smith made something out of nothing. Just remember, those were the RAMS. The RAMS are not in the playoffs.

AES, this game managing strategy will not win a playoff game against Brees. Our running game has slowed considerably. Gore really does look a step slow now and the O line is protecting better but not run blocking very well now. That means that we need to open up the passing game a bit more. We can’t because the QB has limitations. he does not have all the throws so we can’t use the whole field. Example: How about an 18 yard out? smith is afraid it will get picked off . He wants to wait to see if the receiver is open. He does not throw to a spot. He throws to an open receiver. By the time that receiver is open and Smith sees him, the defender has time to close on the play.

If you thought the windows were tight during the red zone during the season, Imagine how small they are going to be in the playoffs.

We know our secondary is questionable and we may potentially have to play against the 2 most prolific passing offenses in the league. We have a Jr game manager at QB. Our running game is spotty and our kicker even missed a 45 harder today and his Fg’s are starting to draw now instead of going straight. I’m worried about Akers in the playoffs. That’s why he was available to us.

These are some real issues from an objective 49er fan. The Smither don’t like to face these issues. They are wearing rose colored glasses. About that extension? I hope the front office takes a real good look at the possibility. We will not have a 3rd place schedule next year and our defense won 2 games late with strips. We got a lot of breaks this year that we did not get last year.

I’ll ask you this. We know Smith was managed in this offense . What would be the length, dollar amount of your extension?

      • AES says:

23J, “AES, this game managing strategy will not win a playoff game against Brees.”

On paper your statement may ring true. But haven’t we been saying this about our offense all season? 23J, so far this system has worked for a 13-3 record, 2nd seed placement and the chance to prove that just maybe, this type of ‘managing strategy’ can be just as succesful in the playoffs as it’s been during the season.

Our team is in the playoffs and the playoffs represent a new season in which anything can happen.
23J, we’ve come this far, let’s enjoy the ride because it ain’t over till it’s over!

      • Hoferfan67 says:

        AES, nice soft-pedaling. lol

  271. Prime Time says:

23j the only thing thT is limited is your football knowledge. When you don’t have speed at WR, you can stretch anything.
This offense is not based on the deep ball, when will you haters realize that the 49er formaula for the 1000th time is run the ball, short to intermediate passing game, play good defense and win the field position battle. Why can’t you understand that because for a 13-3 record, I’d say it’s working! Geez, it’s not rocket science, it’s just like your clown school degree you graduated with, simple, easy to understand!

  272. Da Coach says:

Good win today. Got crazy at the end when they relaxed a bit but still a good win. #2 seed, and home game. If anyone on here says they saw that coming they are lying.

    • Neal says:

Hue is much better head coach then the Rev but not in Harbaugh league. Hue ego is way over the top, and his team just broke the penalty record, what a disciplinery team. He reminds me of Norv Turner, a great offensive coordinator but a mediocre at best head coach.

  280. Stan says:

Turn out the Raider kights the paaartys over. Another Chuck Bresnahan masterpeice of fold and give up. Worst DC of the decade..and the Raiders have had some lousy ones..

  281. Stan says:

ANOTHER GAME,where the Raider D just let the other team score almost every time they touched it. Burn in effigy Bresnahan..or the real thing!..and slip Beane in there too..

  282. Stan says:

No bomb? at least.. F’ing Hue!

  283. Stan says:

TEAR BRESNAHAN LIMB FROM LIMB!!! ARGHHHH HATE,HATE,HATE!!….lol..

  284. AES says:

Hofe, “AES, nice soft pedaling.” Just trying to be ‘fair and balanced.’
Can you be fair and balanced and give Crabtree his due?
    tick, tick, tick, tick? (lol)

    • Hoferfan67 says:

Not so negative, read through my game comments. After MC’s injuries and missed preseasons, he is starting to look like a top pick. He is working harder and the chemistry between him and AS is starting to pay off. He’s looking better but not elite. We need help and my guess is that the 9ers take another WR in the draft.

  285. Prime Time says:

23j go back and look at the history of successful playoff teams an tell me which ones won without good coaching, good defense, and a balanced offense cause that’s exactly what the Niners have.
Otherwise get back to working on your Masters in Clownisism, your almost there!

  286. AES says:

Totally agree with your analysis about MC, Hofe. Your words almost mimic my very sentiments regarding Alex (minus the backlash, lol).

    • oneniner says:

…here we go again…..Mr. flip flopper……Hof comments are totally different from what you said about Alex….

  287. AES says:

‘oneniner’ Alex may get jealous if he see’ you ‘stalking’ me.
    Get lost PAROLEE!
