49ers sign Randy Moss to one-year deal

The 49ers have signed Randy Moss to a one-year contract, according to Adam Schefter.

Clearly, the Niners were impressed with Moss in his workout this afternoon and feel he can be their deep threat and red zone target even at the age of 35.

I like this move for the Niners. Moss probably will be a better receiver in 2012 than anyone they could have drafted with the 30th overall pick – better than Kendall Wright and Stephen Hill and Rueben Randle.

I still expect the Niners to draft a receiver, but now they won’t have to do that in the first round. They have no glaring needs on the roster anymore. They can take the best player available.

And that guy may be Stanford tight end Coby Fleener. We’ll know more about him after his Pro Day on March 22nd.

It could also be an interior offensive lineman to play right guard, like Peter Konz.

What do you think of the Niners signing Moss?

  1. BennyBlanco says:

LOVE IT!!! Another low-risk one year deal. I really wish they get Morgan signed as well… going to be an interesting year!!!

    • Ceedub says:

Low risk, high reward. Moss seems motivated, wants to go out “on top”. Candlestick is going to go freakin nuts when Smith hits Randy for his first Niner TD. This is going to be interesting to say the least!

  2. woo says:

i don’t think alex will connect with him deep

    • htwaits says:

Maybe not, but why worry about that before they have played?

    • Rusty_in_OC says:

Why not? He connected with Vernon Davis on some fairly long shots this past season. Why not Moss? I have the feeling Randy’s going to be massively motivated this year…

    • MontanaMan16 says:

Why not, Alex has thrown many deep balls! If he misses its usually overthrown. He wont overthrow Moss and it will now be very hard to stack the box against the run.

Now I definitely want Fleener with the first pick. Get a wr later. With Fleener, VD, Moss, Crabs, Gore/Hunter, we’ll be very tough to defend.

      • Ceadderman says:

Don’t forget Delanie Walker. That Moss signing with the ability to pick up ANOTHER solid Receiver and Morgan? OMF’NGOD this team is gonna be off tha CHAIN this season!!!

Pick up either Colston or Jackson for insurance. 35 year old Receivers come with durability concerns.

      • DS94everXev says:

        @montanaman

Why are you and others assuming Fleener will be there for us?

If you bet on solving the problem by drafting “a guy”, what happens if “a guy” is not there? Now you are stuck. Many FA’s will have signed with other teams. Leaving teams to having to possibly overpay for FA’s when they were betting all this time on drafting “this guy”.

    • hollafront says:

what about that 45 yd bomb that VD dropped in the endzone against the Giants during the regular season? There was no YAC to that…just a drop in the endzone…

      • DS94everXev says:

        @hollafront

And the one to Edwards when he let the CB just take position from him in the endzone. I believe that was AS’s last Int of the year on Thanksgiving day. Had Edwards not done that, that is a TD.

Then the Chilo screwed us with the deep pass to Ted Ginn in that same game that was for a TD.

Then there was another time early in the season where AS bought lots of time, rolled out, and threw a beauty of a pass which Delanie didn’t see as it fell near him in the endzone.

Then the time when Ted Ginn was wide open for an easy TD, but lost the ball, and ran in circles as the ball landed where TG should have been had he kept running his route.

So, that is 4 good deep passes which should have been TD’s if not for the receiver and a stupid penalty. Can’t fault AS for those.

Those 4 extra TD’s + yours would be 5 more TD’s. Almost 30% more TD’s than what he threw. And those 5 would have resulted in a better than 4:1 ratio of TD:Int.

You don’t see elite receivers make these kind of mistakes. I saw every game Rice played, and he never did that. I don’t see LF doing that.

    • MidWestNiner says:

Did you expect the team to be so close to a Super Bowl last season Woo? Always expect the unexpected.

    • brad49 says:

Even if he doesn’t stretch the field, think about all the jump balls he’s gonna win in the red zone!!

He’s still running a sub 4.5 40-yard! I agree with the short term deal.

  3. htwaits says:

If he can stay healthy and interested, he should open up some space for the other receivers, and like you have said, the 49ers will be able to be more flexible in the draft. They may also be able to take a long shot later in the draft and find a WR for later.

    • EcoEnrico says:

Signing a one year deal tells me he’s motivated – at least for now. However, if he doesn’t get the throws, things could sour quickly. I hope the Niners sign Morgan, bring in another FA WR, and pick one up in the draft – all for security – in case Moss doesn’t pan out.

  4. Matt49erFan831 says:

    Well…our off-season just got interesting…

    • Ceedub says:

Most definitely! Picking up Moss will enable the Niners to pick up a WR in the 2nd-3rd round and use their first for BPA. A great move if Randy can buy into Harbaugh’s plan and play football. Who’s got it better than us?

  5. Razoreater says:

Low risk high reward no brainer. Can’t wait for the press conference tommorrow.

  6. NinersRoc says:

YES!!! That’s what I’m talking about! This is why Baalke was Exec of the Year last year! Low risk! We still take a WR in the draft, and we’ll either resign Josh or Ginn or both.

    • ninermd says:

Should resign Ginn. With him last year we might have been talking about the year that was #6. Wheeew. Well we got our deep jumping threat now!

    • Michael says:

With Moss on the team, I don’t know if Morgan wants to be #3 on the team. I think he would want to be a starting WR. Ginn I think wants to be a top 3 WR and not sure the 49ers will give him that and the money too. We’ll see about him resigning. Draft wise, I see Fleener being a nice option still to add to more big targets for our QB, with Marvin Jones as our #3 WR if I drafted a WR, maybe find a punt returner if we don’t from FA.
Also, please consider signing Winston! He just got released from the Texans for some reason and he would not only fix our RT, but our RG as well when Davis is moved to RG.

  7. Stan says:

Two prima donna recievers when most teams are lucky to just have one?..sign TO and the 49ers will own the world of P.D. recievers.
Moss-is only as good as his last catch. So,you will only know its a good move by mid season. Thats your risk.

    • Hoferfan67 says:

CLASSIC! Stan, stop – I can’t get off the ground from laughing so hard! LMAO!!!!!!

      • BigP says:

He must have made quite an impression on Harbaugh after a 15 minute workout.

      • AES says:

Hmmm, I don’t get it Hofe? ……… Oh, ok, hahahaha, the joke is about Moss and Crabtree (sorry if i’m not laughing like you). Go have your laugh Hofe, but I will venture that Crabtree will have more catches than Moss in 2012. Moss will get his, but remember Alex will need to show that he can accurately throw the deep pass pre-injury ala Alex to A.Bryant. But one thing is certain, the team is definitely making a strong statement on WINNING A SUPERBOWL in 2012!

      • Hoferfan67 says:

AES, cool your jets. I didn’t agree with Stan just his analogy and take on this signing.

      • MontanaMan16 says:

And Harbaugh must’ve made quite an impression on Moss if it only took 15 minutes!

    • ninermd says:

      Are you a 49er fan?

    • MidWestNiner says:

It’s better than what the Niners had last season Stan. This allows them to concentrate on other needs like RG, CB, and more depth.

  8. Adam707 says:

I said this last week and was nearly crucified. Lol. Love this signing. I’m sure it was for vet minimum not hitting our cap room at all. Anyone know the details? Our WR core got better today, and when we resign Morgan and draft a WR it will only get better.

    • ErikF says:

As a raider fan I can tell you the man is a dog! However, since he won’t be making much, and as such can be cut as soon as he starts jogging routes, it’s a great pickup for the Niners! Go bay area teams!

  9. Latino Heat says:

This signing signifies that free agents know that the 49ers are that close to winning a superbowl. They have a championship defense and now building up their offense to get over the hump. He could have signed with an elite QB in New Orleons but decided to go somewhere to be a #1 and mentor some young guys. Now the questions is did he sign knowing Smith would be the starting QB?

    • Grandma Lott says:

The Niners are making all the right moves, but Braylon didn’t work out so it remains to be seen if Moss has still got it.
I would like them tomsign a young WR, if they can sign Morgan then they can still go get Fleener.
But if not then go after Wallace who will force defenders to chase him down the field along with Davis, Crab and Moss,
      Yawsuh

  10. Rick says:

Yes sir! Great move! Low risk with a great upside if it works out.

I only wish they had done this in time for the playoffs last year. Even if Moss was only used a decoy to stretch the field, he could have made the difference in the NFC Championship. Oh well, the past is dead, let’s look to the future.

    Can’t wait for September!

    • brad49 says:

I’m thinking the same thing. If he distracts the defenses #1 CB then that frees up Vernon Davis! Remember that guy who always gets double-teamed! LOL! Let’s go randy !!!!!!

  11. Adam707 says:

Grant how will this affect our salary cap

  12. ninermd says:

All about the money. Hope he doesnt “Edwards” us.

    • Ceadderman says:

Hey man, that ain’t cool. Edwards was let go cause his contract wasn’t guaranteed and his injuries made him expendable. At least be fair about why he’s not with the 9ers anymore. It wasn’t his attitude that got him cut. It was pure pragmatism that did.

      • DS94everXev says:

        I agree Ceadderman

Edwards was cut when he was because he was on a 1 year contract, and his injury was not going to heal in time. No sense keeping the guy around.

Besides, in his short time here, he impressed me with his conduct. A certain overpaid wanna be #1 WR could learn from how Edwards conducted himself.

    • oneniner says:

      ……ninermd = hater

  13. Hoferfan67 says:

Sounds like they will be opening up the offense with the combo of RM and VD. If they resign JMorg, add a WR through FA and the draft, this team is definitely serious about 2012. WWWOOO! (done for MD) lol

  14. Ceadderman says:

Like I said the other day, if we sign Moss I won’t complain. But why the hell wasn’t he signed when we let Edwards go?

Moss is 10 times the Receiver that 15 is. He’s 100 times the Receiver that Swain is. I’m not even going to say how much better he is than 10 is that comparison would not be fair to the guy.

I don’t think this was the way to go, but nobody can say that Smith won’t have someone to throw to. You guys hatin on Smith are gonna see just what a Receiver actually looks like. I know you haven’t seen one since T.O. left but you’re gonna now. :D

    • MontanaMan16 says:

This will definitely help Crabs as well.

      • DS94everXev says:

        @montanaman

How so? MC can’t get open when he was covered 1 on 1. Unless the defense does not bother covering MC at all and has their whole secondary on RM/VD, MC will still have the issues of getting open/dropping balls. With or without Randy Moss or anybody else.

MC has to get better all by himself. Nobody can do it for him.

    • Latino Heat says:

Sometimes sitting and watching for a full year changes your perspective on football and life. Maybe he was out of shape last year or maybe he is broke. Either way he’s motivated and can strectch the field, nothing better than having a motivated athlete out to prove himself.

  15. jay j says:

I love it….. that was the only prob last year. Once morgan got injured the deep threat really left, harbaugh was smart to save vernon onthose deep routes for the post season, totally surprised teams. i woder if this will make morgan want to stay …. ? Hope so, he a good physicl reciever.

  16. msclemons67 says:

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand Moss is a deep threat. On the other hand he can be a massive head case.

Gotta trust that Harbaalke will cut him the first time he quits on a play. Like, the first day of mini-camps.

  17. Sean in Canada says:

Will he block downfield? Or try every down?

  18. Dapro says:

He must think the Niners are going to sign manning too! He will be so disappointed. haha

  19. Sean in Canada says:

I guess this means that they aren’t resigning Smith because there is no way Moss will choose them over the Saints and Brees.

    • Latino Heat says:

I think the 49ers are closer to winning a SB than NO, elite QB or not. NO is in a messy situation right now.

      • Sean in Canada says:

Very true. The comment was kinda directed towards those people who dislike Smith and blame him for all the Niners issues. I’d like to think he chose the Niners for a shot at the super bowl but his me first attitude in the past would suggest that this was about money.

      • Ceedub says:

This wasn’t about money for Moss. He wants to go out big and win a SB. This is his swan song, he should be on his best behavior .

    • Hoferfan67 says:

“no way Moss will choose them over the Saints and Brees.

Weren’t those that said that the same ones that said AS can’t win games, won’t get the team to the playoffs, or help the team with a game in the playoffs? It’s all about TEAM.

      Good job Sean!

      • DS94everXev says:

        @hof

Like I told Grant, the question was a poorly written question.

The real question was “Does Moss choose the Niners over the Saints?” And we now have our answer.

    • hightop says:

Don’t forget the Saints are in dome deep kim chee right now -suspensions, draft picks taken away,et al. I posted yesterday I thought this didn’t seem like a good fit and voicing trepidation about RM’s influence on the lockeroom,I still feel that way but a one year …maybe I’m wrong and Randy brings it.Great!I remember Coach Walsh adding guys that seemed dicey and ill fit for the team !

  20. Htesrepus says:

Love it! They still need to draft some young receivers though and they need a running back to take the load off Gore.

  21. hox says:

Now we should pick up Manning. Take a running back or an O-LINE with the 30th pick or even try to move up and grab a elite cornerback. Alex will learn from the best(Manning & Harbaugh) and alex could save his arm a little for later in his career. Alex would be an amazing back up. Alex is a starter but Manning is…..Manning. With the cycle of life of the NFL, strike when the iron is hot.

    • CrazyE says:

How in the world would we afford all of these people? To top it off…AS wants to start and someone will start him.

    • Ceedub says:

Alex won’t play in SF if Manning comes here (it isn’t happening). I need some of that weed you are smoking dude! :-)

  22. DS94everXev says:

Does this prove that a deep threat WR will play with AS ?

Can we put an end to this stupid argument now? And the equally stupid claim that AS can’t throw it over 40 yards?

    • MontanaMan16 says:

      I hear ya!

    • CrazyE says:

That pass he overthrew Williams on in the Champ Game was more than 40 and would have been caught by RM.

      • DS94everXev says:

        @CrazyE

Very likely Moss would have. But AS overthrew KW right there for a likely TD. I don’t think that had AS hit KW that the Niners win that game automatically though.

I think the Giants would have responded in kind and really push the passing game on us more in the first half. And it was working that whole first half. Who knows. Maybe the Giants score another TD, or two more before half if we force them to pass.

    • Adam707 says:

      I’m sure we “overpaid” (sarcasm)

    • undercenter says:

Lets hope so DS but for some reason I doubt it.

    • msclemons67 says:

Well, we aren’t sure Randy knows Harbaugh isn’t the QB yet.

      :-D

    • Jack Hammer says:

It is funny how quiet the hater brigade has become tonight. Crickets.

  23. Phil 4.6 says:

I say it again, “Baalke for President” or whatever else he wants to be. If the Niners get Fleener, expect 31 formal complaints.

  24. Andrew from Rishikesh says:

Love this signing, but I have to think, is there something else coming?

    • msclemons67 says:

Tomorrow is free agency so tonight is sort of like Xmas eve for football fans.

I’m really curious to see what Baalke does this year.

      • MidWestNiner says:

I consider it a early birthday gift for me. :-) I too am eager to see what Baalke has planned this offseason.

    • NickRow says:

      @Andrew
I’d expect another FA WR signing. What’s our cap situation now?

  25. CrazyE says:

Great singing. Love the deep threat. Love that he has over a year off with fresh legs. Love that he will play with a chip on his shoulder.

You have to think, and sometimes this does not seem to fit the bill with most athletes (thinking), but us lay people, who work real jobs and deal with life’s real stresses like money, food and utilities, have to believe that RM sat at home wondering what happened to his glory and why was it that no one wanted him. I know it would affect me if I was without a job and still had juice in the tank. I hope, and I believe, that humble pie is something Randy has eaten and it has changed his perspective on what it means to be a teammate and a leader. The good news for him….all he has to do is be a teammate.

We have a leader and he threw route to Moss today. How many times in his life do you think Randy Moss caught balls from the head coach during a tryout? Now that there, is a lesson in humility.

Go Niners…go get Fleener and sign Morgan.

  26. hox says:

I know Alex might not have the strongest arm in the NFL but think about Redzone, think about Randy and his hops. Alex might not throw a 70 yd bomb but the safety has to cover someone and with Vernon Davis’s speed…… its going to come down to match-ups. Alex is a smart kid.

    • brad49 says:

I’m with you, and we struggled until late in the year with red-zone TD’s. Moss is a big body that, if nothing else, can help us turn FG’s into TD’s ! Go Baalke!!

  27. undercenter says:

I guess were going to find out about Moss. If anyone can get thru this basket case, Harbaugh can. I just hoping the Niners can opt out easy if Moss becomes a distraction. I have mixed emotions about this signing.

    • MidWestNiner says:

I wouldn’t want to be on Harbaugh’s bad side and neither should Moss if he wants that ring.

    • DS94everXev says:

      @undercenter

If Moss does that, we dump him, like yesterday.

1 year contract, no financial risk for the future. And if his practice skills are submarine, we cut him before the season begins.

      • Jack Hammer says:

DS, I am surprised your head hasn’t exploded already! Randy Moss is supposedly the antithesis of everything you want in a player. First Crabtree now Moss. How will you even bear to watch the offense this year?

      • DS94everXev says:

        @Jack

        News flash:

None of the players you said are assured of starting or even playing. Not all FA’s are kept beyond taining camp.

And, you think I am a hater. WRONG.

I have said all year “In JH and TB I trust.” That means I trust them. I’m not like you. Thankfully. Calling Stan a GENIUS, but only until he said something similar to me about MC. Now, he isn’t? Because his opinion differs from yours? Know who does that? Haters.

By the way, Moss produced a lot more in his career and first 3 years than MC. That helps. And MC has been a good test for JH in dealing with WR’s who don’t put forth full effort every play.

If anything, this signing provides more evidence that MC is not deserving of is near NY Giants entire WR core salary. Why risk bringing in Moss if the WR’s are fine?

And tell me Mr. DC. Please describe the type of player you want. What kind of attitude do you want from them? If you say you don’t care, you get the Raiders. Keep that in mind in your reply.

      • Jack Hammer says:

DS, The Moss signing doesn’t knock my socks off. It isn’t like he has done anything for the last 2 years. Out of football in ’11, and in ’10 was terrible.

I think they are taking a flyer on the guy in hopes that they catch lightning in a bottle.

I have never said that the wide receiver group we have now is fine. I have said and still believe that this is a group that needs to have an upgrade in talent. This group now consists of only Crabtree, Williams, and Moss so there is still obviously work to be done.

I don’t have a specific “type” of receiver that I am looking for in putting a team together but types. I ran a variation of the Fly offense so I needed to have at least two guys with enough versatility to be both good route runners/pass catchers as well as having the ability to make plays once they had the ball in their hands on sweeps. To me, Ted Ginn is the prototypical 4/fly back because he has the speed to get to the edge on the sweep and does a decent job in pass catching, but not great, and Harbaugh and Co utilized him great in that role. The other player from our ’11 team that would fit nicely would have been a nice fit would have been Josh Morgan. He would have been a perfect fit at Z, because of his speed route running ability, and hands. Crabtree would be an X for me. He would need to block well on the edge in the run game and be a primary focus in the passing game on short to intermediate routes with the 4 (Ginn) stretching the defense from the inside.

As for the type of attitude I expect from my players, it is pretty simple really. Give everything that you can for your teammate on every play. Be willing to sacrifice yourself for the good of the team, and try to make others around you better.

      • Jack Hammer says:

DS says, “I have said all year “In JH and TB I trust.” That means I trust them. I’m not like you.”.

Please show me one time that I have ever stated that I don’t trust Harbaugh and Baalke. You won’t find it. If anything your constant complaining about Crabtree shows more distrust in their opinion.

“Calling Stan a GENIUS, but only until he said something similar to me about MC. Now, he isn’t? Because his opinion differs from yours? Know who does that? Haters.”

DS, That was sarcasm. Stan isn’t just a GENIUS, he is a FRICKIN GENIUS, the likes of which you could only aspire to be.

      • DS94everXev says:

        @jack

Besides his last year in Oakland, Moss had at least 7 TD’s every year until 2010 when he had 5.

7TD’s (his worst year -2006 and 2010) is more than MC has had in his best year (6 in 2009).

In 2010, Moss had 5 TD’s. Which is one less than MC’s best year so far, and would be MC’s second best season TD wise.

Moss has always made impact plays. Only question is does he make as many for his team as he does for the opponent. In Oakland, it was definitely for the opponent.

And your definition of what you want to see from a player does not differ from mine at all. Why were you fighting with me about it? And how does MC or RM fit that definition of the kind of player you want?

I agree with you about lightning in a bottle. No loss if Moss fails to produce. And if he shows the signs of lagging behind during camp, cut him. Save that roster spot for somebody who cares.

      • Jack Hammer says:

“Besides his last year in Oakland, Moss had at least 7 TD’s every year until 2010 when he had 5.”

That is great DS, but how do the stats from early in his career mean anything for the 2012 49ers? Maybe he still has those hops that made him great in the early Minnesota days.

I have not yet seen Crabtree quit on his teammates like Moss did in his last year in Oakland. Other than the hold out prior to signing as a rookie I have no problem with Crabtree. So he speaks his mind, big deal, at least he isn’t a robot and tells you his true feelings. That is a quality that I look for in my players as well. I always told them, “i am not perfect and don’t expect you to be, if you don’t agree with me on something then challenge me on it, maybe it is something we can look at fixing.”

      • DS94everXev says:

        “FRICKIN GENIUS”

You are wrong. I don’ aspire to be a frickin genius. Just a genius. And not only so much that. Most geniuses have other issues. Like lack of understanding and emotional outbursts. For instance, random uncontrolled bursts of cussing when others don’t see things their way.

I merely desire to get follow another of JH’s mantras “Get a little better today than I was yesterday. And get better tomorrow than I am today.” If I happen to reach genius level, fine. But, I don’t aspire to it.

So, was it sarcasm that Stan is a genius (meaning he really isn’t) or was it sarcasm that Stan is not a genius, but a FRICKIN GENIUS?

        Nice work there Jack.

You split up the thoughts into two different quotes. The “I am not like you” had to do with you changing your mind about Stand being a FRICKIN GENIUS when he said to trade MC. And that I am not like that. Many people here said “In JH and TB I trust” when they were hired Jack. The blog was a love fest. Then JH brought AS back, and a bunch of those people stopped saying “In JH and TB I trust” because JH did something they did not agree with.

Just like you did with Stan. Although you say it is sarcasm. So, whatever.

      • DS94everXev says:

        @Jack

Moss has had a long career. There is a lot of stuff that you can determine from it. One of those things is Moss scores TD’s. Except for the Raiders. Moss started off hot, and maintained it for all those years minus the two year rest stop that was Oakland and 2010.

MC does not have more TD’s in 3 years than Moss had in his first year (17). In fact, at this rate, MC averages about 4 TD’s a year or so and that is a very good average since all the numbers are near that average. In stats, we call that a small standard deviation, and that tells us that we can use statistical analysis on this. It will take MC more than 4 years to get the TD total Moss had in his rookie year.

In 13 seasons, Moss was only under 10TD’s 4 times. So, his numbers of TD’s is legit. That is how I can say we can still use his older TD totals. Because they did not decline over a 13 year period. Getting at least 10 TD’s for 9/13 (and 2 of those seasons where quite a long time ago, and in 2009 Moss had 13TD’s) seasons means you can score. Again, using the 10+TD total, the deviation is quite low. So, I know we can use stats in this case. His numbers were not all over the place. Like 17TD in year 1. 3 TD’s in year 2. 9 TD in year 3 and so on.

      • Jack Hammer says:

DS, fortunately I have never wavered from trusting Harbaugh, I knew from watching his work closely at Stanford that we were in good hands. I knew very little about Baalke, but he got Harbaugh here so he was fine with me. Then after last year I am on board.

As for Alex Smith, I never bought into him and wanted him gone going into last year, but when Harbaugh showed support for him I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt.

He made some big plays last year to win games, but that didn’t really surprise me. AS has always played his best in situations that called for throwing caution to the wind. That is what frustrates me the most about him. He has the ability to make all of the throws and plays, but is just overly cautious some times. If he would have turned it loose more often last year maybe there is no need for all those comebacks.

If he does re-sign, I think Harbaugh will have him coached up and he will show improvement. He needs to, the schedule next year is far tougher.

      • Jack Hammer says:

DS, stop comparing Moss to Crabtree. Moss was explosive from day 1 while Crabtree has been hampered by the foot injury and not shown that same type of explosiveness.

Hopefully we will get the ’06 version of Moss that the Patriots did. If we can get half of that production it would be huge. If he can still body off defenders and jump over them he should help on 3rd down and in the red zone, areas that were the achilles heel last year.

      • DS94everXev says:

        @Jack

Who am I allowed to compare MC to then? Is he in the same unique position AS has been in? MC was pissed that he was not drafted higher. Moss was pissed that he was not drafted higher. Both are divas and complain a lot. Seems to me that they have a lot in common. Except Moss was/has been a great WR for his career. MC has not been close.

An injured WR who does not perform as expected does not sound like all that difficult a story to find. A QB who has had what, 6 OC’s and 3HC’s and dealt with just as serious an injury as MC’s foot, that sounds like something a little less common to try and compare too.

And maybe MC’s foot would have been better if he wasn’t sitting at home when he held out. Maybe the Niner doctors could have done something. Maybe AS and him could have bonded in that time. You know, share some stories about their injury. AS had his shoulder thing. He could have talked with MC then. I bet he would have if MC had been there.

I feel no remorse for a guy coming out of college and somebody wants to offer him a $32 million dollar contract or so, and he rejects it. Anybody who actually went to college and graduated would jump at the chance to make that much money out of the gate. Most grads don’t get a job the second they leave. They owe a lot of money. MC is being offered around $30 million, and he is pissed?

Maybe MC should have humbled himself and come to camp and not think he was better than everybody else. Maybe if he had done that, I wouldn’t be so hard on him.

Besides. He is playing. When you play, you have to perform. No excuses. Especially 3 years running excuses about an injury effecting your play. Maybe he won’t ever get better, and he needs to be humble, and accept that fact, and work his butt off instead of complaining all the time. JR said it. MC needs to get faster. Lose some weight. MC hasn’t done so. He didn’t need JR to tell him that. He should know that he is not getting open, and he needs to find a way to get open rather than blame the QB or OC for not giving him chances while he is covered.

  28. Adam707 says:

I guess deep route receivers will choose to play with Alex. Weird. I think Moss signing so quickly shows his desire to win and not his desire to get “stats”.

  29. fesnyc says:

I trust Baalke and Harbaugh…but i hope they’re not done with respect to WR/TE.

Might as well load up in this area of need, especially given injury history (Morgan, Crabs) and other…variables (Moss’s recent propensity to not last a full season).

    • Michael says:

This is how I see what the FO does in the draft and FA. I think they will consider signing Morgan and Ginn back, but I don’t think Morgan wants to be a #3 WR, especially when he can and wants to be a starting WR. Ginn is possible to come back, at a nice price, and it secures our punt return isn’t a liability. I think Meachem wants to be a paid and plays as a starting WR as well, so probably not him.

In the draft, we consider Fleener with our #1 pick, and get Marvin Jones with 3rd round pick. Find a punt return CB/WR in late rounds who has potential for slot.

For o-line, I would like to see Eric Winston signed in FA. He is a good RT and better than Davis, making Davis move to RG. That is how I would remake the team.

      • fesnyc says:

good/interesting points…i was assuming Moss plays on a rotational basis, but if you’re right it could cause Morgan to leave. I’d put the odds that he signs back with us because he knows we could be on the way to a championship, but you never know

  30. TIM_ says:

Dont get me wrong,I am glad we signed him…but…I fear what tantrums he might throw on the field when Alex throws over his head or at his feet or simply does not see him running free for an easy TD ?No worries I guess, since JH will have Alex’s back and will tell Moss to not show up Alex on the field or in the locker room and especially not in the media,no matter how bad it gets for Randy.

    • rebelscum74 says:

Could get really intersting or frustrating, Good point Tim!

    • Hoferfan67 says:

Tim, didn’t bother VD catching AS’s passes in stride. Too bad AS wasn’t drafted with the infrastructure that CK has with the QB guru and a QB friendly environment. Unfortunately, AS got stuck with two very inexperienced HCs. Looking forward to you next comment when you state how much you really like AS.

      • Bayareafanatic says:

Yeah, those two coaches really affected his accuracy….

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Bay, nice comment from left field. Too bad you and your bud Jordo have been wrong about every 9er move the last year and a half. lol

      • exgolfer says:

        Bay,

Yeah, players are never affected by the system their in, especially in the NFL. It’s well established that coaching in the NFL is meaningless. That’s why that unqualified boob, Singletary’s high school level coaching staff did nothing to retard Smith’s growth. Just as Nolan’s brow beating Smith into coming back when he was still injured [resulting in further injury] had absolutely no effect.

    • Latino Heat says:

Alex wont be able to overthrow him cause Moss has the speed to get open intially off the line of scrimmage and down field. I dont think anyone (WR’S) last year was able to get seperation in either case.
Also the offensive line could never really hold up when Alex had to throw deep, all factors that hopefull are rectified next year with a full offseason and more playmakers.
Alex will have to get to work with Moss early, in OTAs
and then be at full speed come training camp.

    • NickRow says:

Unless by some miracle, JH converts Alex into a bad as$ gun slinger, we might have trouble at some point during the season.

  31. MidWestNiner says:

Great move. There is finally a deep threat on this team with good hands. If Morgan is signed and Fleener drafted, then there’s no way the receiving corps is a weakness next year(just as long as Moss gives his all). This also benefits Crabtree to where he can finally break out. I love it!!!

  32. Kgfalls says:

What is it with all of this Fleener business??? Draft for need! You have 2 very good TEs. No need for a third. Draft a CB or a Guard in first round. Hell, Fleener might even be there in the 2nd round, and I don’t know if I’d draft him.
    Needs: guard, WR, CB.
    Not TE!

    • Adam707 says:

Feel the same way. People want to waste draft picks. People are looking to much into the fact that Harbaugh coached him. He will still go for what is needed, not with personal relationships

    • MidWestNiner says:

Walker is a free agent after next season and most likely will want to be a #1 TE on a depth chart for another team. And having Fleener would give an opposing defense something else to think about.

      • Michael says:

Exactly what I was thinking. Walker is a free agent soon, and Fleener with his size and speed would help in 3rd down and red zone areas. Maybe not be position of need, but is an area of deficit we are trying to improve upon. Doesn’t matter how it is done, if Fleener with the #1 pick can do that best, why not?

      • Adam707 says:

Still go with a WR 1st. Moss will be gone in a year, we will need a receiver to fill his spot. Fleener would be waste of a pick when we already have 2 TE’s who are proven to be good.

      • MidWestNiner says:

They can always get a WR in later rounds Adam. Most fans also believe Fleener will be the BPA when the Niners pick, but we’ll see.

      • Michael says:

@Adam Walker is a nice #2 TE, but when you think TE, you think safety valve for a QB. Now, the problem with Walker is his skill set is just a lesser version of V.Davis in the offense. He is a 6 ft TE/WR that has good speed. However, I don’t think he finds holes in the zone that well and he isn’t a big target for a QB on 3rd down. Look at the best TEs in the league, they are all big targets and are safety valves for their QB. Davis to me is more of a deep threat for the offense, not a safety valve for a QB. I think Smith needs this in the offense, someone he knows can find and sit down in the hole during zone coverage. Fleener not only provides that, he has deep threat too. I wouldn’t mind WR with the 1st pick, but I think Fleener would help immediately.

      • DS94everXev says:

        @Adam707

How does a TE solve our issues at WR? We already have perhaps the best TE (if he catches the ball) in the NFL. VD can block/run/score. Not many can.

Even if Fleener can be as good, or better, how does geting him solve our problem getting the ball to the edges of the field? Unless we put Fleener in the WR position outside and VD in the middle or vice-versa.

      • Adam707 says:

DS- I’m saying we should not sign Fleener. Others are lobbying for him

      • Adam707 says:

I also believe you go for a position of need. Especially when you picked up a WR for one year and will need to replace him. But i guess if he is “best” available then cool.

      • OREGONINER says:

        @MidWestNiner
We already have Konrad Reuland, Byham, VD, Walker, and Peelle at TE. There’s only so much room on the bench. Stephan Hill WR or Gilmore CB at #30. Meacham as FA, and just mail it in.

      • DS94everXev says:

        Sorry, I misunderstood Adam707

      • exgolfer says:

Fleener is supposed to run in the 4.5′s, is tall and athletic. He projects as a TE/WR type. More so than VD, and I’m becoming less and less impressed with DW’s hands. CF could easily be split out at WR. Can you imagine the dilema defenses would have if the 49ers had a package with three TE’s and Crabtree [instead of Moss here, because MC is a way better blocker than Moss - actually, anyone is a way better blocker than Moss,]? The 49ers could run power or four wide, depending on the defensive personnel.

I’m not saying Fleener is the only choice, but, depending on his pro day, he could be a reasonable choice.

  33. Chris says:

I believe that he is still an elite reciever when giving the chance to be

  34. Neal says:

Low risk with a possible big gain, it troubles me that he quit and now wants to play but hell welcome to the jungle.

  35. Domingo says:

Makes me wonder if something is up at the QB position. I cannot imagine Randy Moss choosing to play with Alex when he probably has other options.

  36. TIM_ says:

I have to admit Hof,that Nolan and Sing were not the best HC’s for a rookie/ young QB. But Alex was as bad as they were and worse, even taking into account the situation he was drafted into.Nolan and Sing AND Alex were and are out of their depth in the high positions they are and were in.

    • Hoferfan67 says:

Tim, those days are done. Now the 9ers signed a 35 year old receiver that can get the separation at WR that was missing last year. FA isn’t over and I see the 9ers drafted a WR in the draft all good. Good to hear you admit you were wrong.

    • Latino Heat says:

Tim was Alex bad because of the environment he was drafted and develped into or that he just does not have it?
Two years ago I would have said he just doesnt have it but after last year and the remarkable improvement and the way he played helping the team to 13 wins and a great game against the Saints and a mediocre game against the Giants, you have to admit the potential to be great is there now under Jim Harbaugh.

  37. msclemons67 says:

Hey Grant we have a mission for you. Find out who the 49ers’ team caterer is please?

  38. Grant Cohn says:

Randy Moss will be available on a conference call any moment. Any questions you’d like me to ask?

    • Hoferfan67 says:

Why did he sign with the 9ers with the *unsettled* situation QB?

    • Adam707 says:

What was his biggest reason for coming out of retirement?

    • Adam707 says:

How he feels about playing with Alex Smith

    • Hoferfan67 says:

Why did he sign with 9ers over the Saints? Was it the first offer? Did he receive any attention from other suitors or just the 9ers and Saints. What does he have left to prove with his body of work. Why keep playing when most receivers his age are retired?

    • undercenter says:

Yes Grant, How does he feel about Alex as his quaterback?

    • MontanaMan16 says:

I would like to know what he thought of Harbaugh throwing him passes and what made him choose the 9ers!

  39. TIM_ says:

    Latino Heat :
I am not so worried that Alex would overthrow Moss but that he will simply throw the ball ovrr his head as he often did to Crabs etc. Moss is fast and tall but he is not 8feet tall and his height will not help him catch those balls at his feet or thrown behind him or thrown late etc etc. Our Receivers were not great but they were better than Alex made them look.

    • Latino Heat says:

But Tim Crabtree is slow, it took him a lifetime to get open and he is not a 9 route receiever. Hes an inside slot possession type wideout. Big difference when working with speed and size versus slow and good hands. Niner coaches were limited after Morgan and Edwards went down.

    • Bayareafanatic says:

Tim if Alex does that, the love affair will end quickly. That is, if Alex ever signs that small contract they offered him.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Bay, I thought RM wouldn’t sign here isn’t that what you said??!

      • exgolfer says:

        Bay,

Since you seem to know so much about the contract offer, let’s hear the particulars. You know, years, overall money, guaranteed money, incentives, etc.

Or were you sworn to secrecy by Paraag? You’re just a hoot!

  40. dmic says:

I think it was a low risk deal- If he is an issue in the locker room he’s gone. Alex seems to overthrow the deep ball so maybe he can connect with a real deep threat receiver. The only guy he connects with deep is the fasted TE in the league so now with a guy who knows how to go deep not like Ginn he should have a good connection.

  41. TIM_ says:

    Hofer:
Nice try but I didnt say I was wrong.I just stated what I have said many times, that Nolan and Sing were out of their depth at HC,just like Alex is as starting QB in the NFL.

    • Latino Heat says:

Tim,Singletary and Nolan will never be head coaches in the NFL again. Alex is a starter in the NFL on one of the most up and comin teams, not sure how you can compare the coaches to Smith.

  42. TIM_ says:

Latino heat: imho Alex didnt have anything special going last year either. He was better but he was not all that good ,even with the improvement and better coaching. He is still mediocre imho. I hope he improves greatly !

    • Latino Heat says:

Considering he led the league in least amount of INT’s, 6 comeback wins, and started all 18 games, and played without a bonafide WR core, that has to be good enought to say it wasnt mediocre. You have to admit that from 2010 to 2011 it was a dramatic improvement. Now moving forward he will need to be better but he is in a great situation to that. As coach would say, all arrows up.

  43. AES says:

Does Harbaugh throw a tight spiral?

  44. TIM_ says:

…and Heat, Crabtree was often open but all too often Alex threw late towards the sidelines or threw behind him or way high or at his feet etc. And often he was wide open and Alex simply didnt see him as he was checking down to his usual 5 yard pass on 3rd and 10.Often a QB who can throw accurately can make stars out of wr’s like Crabs.

    • MidWestNiner says:

Crabtree also dropped some passes that should have been caught Tim.

    • Latino Heat says:

….and often Tim all the Wr’s would drop easy balls, it goes both ways in the most revered team sport. Each position relies on the other and you cant put it all on Smith or Crabtree or Williams. Everyone needs to be alot better next year. Team first.

  45. Andrew from Rishikesh says:

I just have one wish, Carl Nicks at RG.

    • undercenter says:

      that would be sweet

    • MidWestNiner says:

Ben Grubbs would be a nice consolation prize at RG.

      • Andrew from Rishikesh says:

        Sure would.

      • Michael says:

I agree, Nicks (unlikely) or Grubbs, and maybe even Evan Mathis. I know Mathis is 30, but he was still good last year for the Eagles. He won’t be as expensive imo and he isn’t as highly valued as the top 2 guards.

However, I would also advocate to get Eric Winston at RT and move Davis to RG. Improves the right side at TWO positions. Just my thoughts on that.

      • MidWestNiner says:

Another option could be Steve Hutchinson. He is on the downside of his career, but he would be a great mentor to Kilgore.

      • msclemons67 says:

The Winston idea has some merit Michael. I’m still shocked the Texans cut him. That came out of the blue.

      • Michael says:

I heard the problem with Hutchinson is he has been a LG all his career, not sure what the difference between the two is, but at his age, not sure if he would be ok to switching, and I do have to look at his age, the C and RG would continue to be positions we have to replace eventually.

      • Jack Hammer says:

Michael, there are a lot of differences in the techniques for o-linemen depending on which side of the line they are on. Using baseball for an analogy, think of the differences between 1st and 3rd base, sure they are both on opposite sides of the diamond but played very differently.

  46. PhD says:

Why should we expect him to be anything other than what he was for his last two teams? Scratching my head over this one. He definitely would not be my first choice to bolster the WR corp.

  47. OpenMinded says:

Wow. Very interesting signing. Sure looks like FAs will want to join this TEAM. Fasten your seat belts as the FA roller coaster is about to leave the station!

Trent still has a lot of work in front of him: PR/KR, CB, RG, WR : Ginn, Jr., Rogers, Snyder, Morgan, Costanzo, Gooden

The Draft is just going to be a big surprise.

    • NickRow says:

Rogers, Morgan, Snyder, Ginn, Costanzo … That’s the order I’d prioritize the free agents. However, there are contingency plans in place in each case.

  48. TIM_ says:

    Heat:
Alex went from pathetic to mediocre. I guess you could say that was dramatic improvement ? The QB makes the wr’s stars by throwing accurately to them and getting them numbers. If Crabs had a better QB last year he would have easily been over 1000 yards. Its a two way street but the qb is the key to making the reputation of the receivers.

    • MidWestNiner says:

That’s not always true Tom. A good example is what Moss did for Culpepper.

    • Latino Heat says:

Pathetic to mediocre is a little harsh dont you think for a QB who won 13 games is’nt it? Medicre QB to me was Moore in Miami, Cassel in Kansas City, Jackson in Seattle and Skelton in Arizona.
When you look at the entire 49er offense last year, none of it was very good from the offensive line, the running game, play calling and QB play. There was inconsistencies all over the place throughout the 16 weeks. That will all be rectified with a full offseason, coaching, continuity and added talent. Alex needs to be better but to say its just the QB to WRs making it work is a far cry from what I said about football being the ulitmate team game.

    • Jallen says:

Crabs will always be a #3 WR on a good team. Has he ever participated in a training camp yet in the league? I would know knock crabs because of AS; rather, it would be the other way around. AS looks worse than he should because of Crabs.

  49. TIM_ says:

    And Heat:
I stopped counting all the times a receiver “dropped” a pass from Alex when in reality it was simply a bad pass. Also you forget to count all the times Crabs bailed out Alex when he jumped waaaay up and caught bad passes. I want a qb that is first and foremost ACCURATE. That is not and has never been Alex.

    • MidWestNiner says:

      Tim,

There were times when Smith three a great pass and the WR dropped it inexplicably. Smith does need to improve on his accuracy, but the WRs also have to not drop the rock.

    • rebelscum74 says:

So Tim do you believe in Harbaugh or not?

    • Latino Heat says:

Works both ways Tim, you gotta have QB and Wr on the same page before you start throwing out if it was a bad pass or bad route ran or dropped ball. Based on the evaluation of the team and what they are looking to upgrade, the first position everyone says is WR, it wasnt QB in the playoffs, it was WR. Now im not saying Alex was great in either of those games, Im saying he has shown the ability to be clutch late in games but needs help doing it. Thats the NFL today, there is no more QB that can carry a team to victory. Rodgers and Brady are the best but they couldnt get it done either, who won, the best overall TEAM, the Giants.

  50. TIM_ says:

    Heat;
Any honest niners fan has to admit that as bad as Nolan and Sing were, they were helped out the door by not having a decent QB. Like you said, its a two way street. Alex was at least as bad at his job as they were as HC’s

    • Hoferfan67 says:

Tim, you know that isn’t true. The ownership hired the wrong HCs. Happens too often. They had the formula for success in-house but went outside with the MN and MS hires. Now with JH they came back to the roots of their winning ways. Can’t blame that on *one* player even though you try over and over Tim.

  51. TIM_ says:

All receivers drop passes but if the qb is not accurate it sure makes it happen a bunch more often.Alex didnt even see receivers open for possible 3 easy td’s in the Giants game, not to mention all the bad passes and all the times he held the ball too long and all the check downs etc.

    • DS94everXev says:

-JR’s first half of his rookie year, I bet he didn’t drop 5 passes until after he injured his knee.

JR was voted best player in NFL history. Can’t do that by dropping passes, and thinking it is ok, or use that as an excuse. JR didn’t. AS is held up against JM’s standards. Likewise MC is held up to JR’s standards. MC/WR’s don’t get a pass for drops. Just like AS/QB’s don’t get a pass for Int’s.

  52. Domingo says:

I am sure this is a very low risk signing. As long as Randy Moss does not become the Randy Moss who starts to pout when things go bad and the Randy Moss who quits on his team and becomes a locker room cancer and destroys the great team chemistry we had in 2011.

  53. NickRow says:

If we lose Carlos Rogers, I say we go after Carr or Finnegan.

    • MidWestNiner says:

Care will be more expensive than Rogers.

    • Michael says:

Not really, because both are more expensive than Rogers and more coveted than Rogers. He is 3rd CB after those 2. I would like Carr, but he is more expensive and I wonder if they would pay that price for a good young corner.

    • NickRow says:

Let’s not forget that Carr or Finnegan might want a shot at the Super Bowl and play for a top notch defense. They might sign a short term deal or for less money for that shot.

    • msclemons67 says:

Cedric Griffin or Tracy Porter might be interesting.

They are both young and inconsistent and are coming off of injuries. They’ve both show some flashes though.

  54. TIM_ says:

I wish it were true what some few fans believe about how Alex is so good and all the poor QB play is in reality the fault of the wr’s and O line and bad coaching etc etc etc. But in reality those are just old worn out Alexcuses. Most fans are tired of the excuses! I hope Alex can finally step up and for the first time be something special instead of his usual mediocre.lf Alex doesnt step it up and become FAR better than his mediocre performance in 2011 then he will be relegated to his natural position as backup qb in the nfl.I hope Alex can surprise because I like the kid.

    • Latino Heat says:

Tim when your offensive line gives up the most sacks in the league thats a reality, not an excuse. When your QB holds the ball too long thats not an excuse. When your WR’s cannot get open in time, thats not an excuse. Too much blame gets put on the QB when they lose and too much credit when they win.
I dont see how they are all worn out excuses as every teams offense in the NFL faces the same problems. AZ hasnt had an offensive line for years, does that mean that Skelton should get it done regardless of his protection considering he has the best WR in football?

  55. TIM_ says:

    Hof:
Shame on you ! Nobody ever blamed every problem on Alex. I said in this thread that Nolan and Sing were as bad as Alex at doing their jobs. I am simply tired of guys like you not blaming Alex for ANYTHING but always coming up with more Alexcuses. Give it up ,that stuff got old long ago and nobody is listening any longer. Either Alex makes bug strides this season in his many problem areas or he will be replaced with JH’s guy Kaep.

    • Hoferfan67 says:

OK Tim, what will you say if AS continues on his road of improvement with JH this year especially if they get him the much needed receiving weapons? What will you say Tim? Will you admit it wasn’t AS and that now he has a mentor that knows how to work with QBs? I want to hear you say you will change your tune without the negative vibe. BTW Tim, JH has said that AS is his long term guy and that it is well documented. Look it up!

  56. TIM_ says:

I am overall glad we got Moss !He should be able to help Alex. I hope it works out well !

Actually JR did drop several passes his rookie year. But I think he got over it ,lol

    • DS94everXev says:

      @Tim

      What about years 2-10?

And I said he dropped balls in his rookie year. Until he beat the crap out of the Rams I believe. Then he started to become the JR we know.

  58. TIM_ says:

Thank you Bay,that is the point.

I wont need to change my tune, since I only post what I see about Alex and the other ayers. As I have tried to explain to you before,Its up to Alex to improve and of course I will write the truth. And I will be overjoyed for Alex and for me and for my team IF Alex can greatly improve over the less than exciting 2011 he had that has some few fans so excited that he is no longer pathetic but has risen up to mediocre. Now I hope he can step up and become great. But IMHO that is unlikely ,since he simply doesnt seem to have the ability and talent. I hope I and the vast majority of so called experts are wrong.

    • Latino Heat says:

Thats a blanket statement and totally inaccurate to say that a vast majority feel that Alex cant improve. Do you beleive in Harbaugh Tim?

    • cantbreakpar says:

You crack me up Tim — not only are you consistent in your Alex opinions, you are the king of the backhanded compliment. I enjoy the back and forth and admire you for sticking to your opinions (however wrong I consider them to be).

  60. Prime Time says:

@hofer, Bayarea says a lot of things and crystal balls on the 49ers, fact is none of it comes true or is remotely close to being accurate because it’s all negative junk!

  61. TIM_ says:

Gotta go. Tomorrow isthe start of free agency but TB got a head start today !!! Excited to see what TB does in fa and the draft ! Go Niners!
Good Night fellow Niner fans !

  62. BC Niner says:

How do y’all think Vernon Davis and Moss will get along?

  63. Brodie2Washington says:

I’m not so sure signing Moss will change the 49ers draft plans in a major way. If a good receiver like Hill is there at #30, they will snag him. If not, Fleener or Right Guard/Center, corner or RB makes sense.

Much of the draft also hinges on if players like Snyder, Rogers and Morgan sign. (I’m thinking Snyder is a lock to stay, Morgan 50/50 and Rogers 25% chance of staying).

Moss is a low risk re salary cap. He’s a high risk re messing with the teams blue collar identity. I think he has immediate value in spot situations like goal line, 3rd and long or lone WR on jumbo packages. But will he be cool acting as a spot 3rd or 4th WR?

  64. Alan Marks says:

Initially I liked this move. Great potential upside and a major need, without a big contract. But I wouldn’t be happy if we go into the season with Randy Moss as our receiving staff ace. We still need a legitimate #1 receiver that we can rely on, and Randy Moss is a big gamble for psychological, age, and chemistry (with Smith) reasons.

Seems like no one is clamoring for Vincent Jackson. His price is too high I suppose, but to me, he’s one of the best receivers in the game who brings all the assets we need in a true ace.

    • DS94everXev says:

      What happened to Wallace?

ESPN keeps talking about these WR’s and FA’s and Wallace is not in the discussion. After he was being talked about being the best WR available just a few weeks ago.

Did Wallace get franchised by the Steelers or something?

  65. Adam707 says:

The signing on Moss will only improve MC’s game. He will now most likely be the #2 and be getting #2cbs covering him. And I dont see many #2′s with the potential to shut mc down. One thing is for sure, we will finally have a 1000 yard receiver this year.

    • DS94everXev says:

The Niners #2 CB is T. Brown.

He dominated the NFC title game until DG’s hit took him out. Facing better WR’s than MC.

You don’t think he can stop MC?

I don’t know that many #2 CB’s in the league. Maybe you are right. But MC is no lock to dominate any #2. And, certainly no lock to get 1,000 yards. Not that I care about it, or that will prove what I want to see from him.

Besides. I do agree with LC on one point. I don’t think Moss will be an every down player. The Niners will use him like they used Aldon Smith. Situational. MC will still be covered by the other teams #1 (assuming he is the best – Moss) the rest of the game.

    • Adam707 says:

I said there were few #2 cbs that could, meaning there are some. I believe MC will play his best football as a #2 WR. He just needs to be at training camp and work hard and he will have a break out year. Alson fixing the drops is a must, all experts talk about his great/strong hands now its time to show it

      • Adam707 says:

        *Also

      • DS94everXev says:

To put it more precisely, how many projected #2 CB’s in our division do you think MC is better than?

That would be 6 games worth. And the most important 6 in my opinion.

If you don’t know, their names, or how good they are, that’s cool Adam707. Neither do I.

      • Adam707 says:

Well MC had 450 yards 3 TDs in six divison games last year. And that is counting game #1 against Seattle in which he played about 10 plays. And that was facing each of those teams #1′s.

  66. Adam says:

    Interesting.
