The Santa Rosa Press Democrat just posted my dad’s Tuesday column. It’s about Alex Smith. My dad says it’s in Smith’s interest to re-sign with the Niners now, as in this very instant. Do not test free agency. Just sign on the dotted line, dude. If you don’t like the three-year offer, take a one-year deal, win the Super Bowl and cash out next year. As The Football Turns. Bottom line is Alex has no leverage against the 49ers. He probably should test F/A now because the 49ers are calling his bluff and Harbaugh is calling Manning.
Official Randy just signed with the 49ers 15 minutes ago !
Grant i bet you didn’t know about R. Moss is a niner !
It makes sense to sign a one year deal. His leverage would be way higher next year if he played very well this upcoming season.
Your Dad is so anti-Smith. Why he wants him to sign. I would ask him (Smith) to pack and leave.
Everyone expects Smith to complete every throw. Even Montana didn’t complete a lot of his passes. We all know that we didn’t have that many WRs around and we keep blaming Smith for the problem. Now, you Dad wants him to sign the dotted line. Why ?
Come on. Grant. Sign Manning and see what happens to his neck.
Well, according to rickysmiler, aka the nameless wonder, post on “the ball’s in Alex’ court” thread:

“You guys love the posting that Alex is ging to test FA ! Sorry to disappoint some of you, the contracts is already been signed.. Try your luck next 4 years in FA…hahaha
Grant?! Did you not HEAR?!?! He said the contract “IS ALREADY BEEN SIGNED”. Not it HAS already been signed, but it IS already is been signed. That’s absolute!! This is old news. Get with the program, brutha!!
Randy moss signed a one year deal!!!!
Grant,
Well this proves that this truly is the silly season for Pro Football.
Every year the fans and the Cohn clan look into the black hole of contract renewal/free angency and make assumptions about what this or that player will or should do, without an once of hard fact!
I have enjoyed your Dad,s writings for many years and I must say that his logic is one of the things that I respect. But this is not an argument, this column is fiction. Good fiction but fiction non the less.
Holy crap we just signed Randy moss!!!
Say whaaaa?! Links pleeze!!
http://www.csnbayarea.com/football-san-francisco-niners/news/Report-49ers-sign-Randy-Moss-to-one-year?blockID=668450&feedID=2800
We signed Moss without a starting QB or maybe Josh Johnson just signed, buwhahahahaha!!!!!!!
Can’t believe they signed RM. Must be a way to save money so they can add guarantee to AS’s contract!!
Hofer,
You need help. Smiths deal is a take it or leave it deal. The ball is in his court. What don’t you understand about that. Smith better put his tail between those legs and take what’s on the table. It’s not gonna change.
Jordo, not too worried about your endorsement since you are wrong here 99% of the time. Let’s see RMoss, VD, MC, CFleener, JMorg, PGarcon, etc, etc. Oh AS is going to have a year! We’re a QB away from the playoffs. BBBWWAAAHHHAAAHHHAAA!
Hopefully he fares better than Edwards and Alex can get him the ball. Otherwise it could get ugly very quick.
You’re dad is special. There is no standoff. They are ironing out details.
To bad Alex can’t throw deep lol haaaa
I can’t find any confirmation on Moss. Where did you hear this?
On NFL Net but Schefter called it.
GOT IT ….

Razor has a link too!!

Knbr reported Adam shefter. Moss on a one year deal. Now let’s bring in Peyton!!!! Lol. I bet you ge saw JH’s passion and signed on a clear sheet of paper. Our D wins games. Now if our offense can give them more rest and put up some points?
Now we’re talking!!!! Booking my superbowl reservations soon!!!! Where will it be played next year? Thank god not indy…..
@Big niner
Will you get real….?!
The news is that we signed Moss for a year…that, in effect, says that we just rolled the dice once already….Do you really believe that Peyton is going to return to pre-injury production? Do you really believe that our young Oline can put up a barrier that will protect Peyton, who can’t duck and dodge ? Do you really think that the Saints are the only team that pays bounties?
GC, it looks like the table is set after the RM signing for a tall receiver that wil be picked at #30. Hmmm. Can you say CF?
I’m with you, but I still want to see what he runs at his Pro Day.
Shouldn’t be worse than a 4.65 40 but prob more like a 4.55.
*Shouldn’t be worse* Jeez typing so fast my grammar is gone. lol
Here’s an idea Grant, become a man and write your own opinion. Stop riding on your Daddy’s coat tails!
@mad
When you learn to read, I may tell Grant that.
Grant spent a good part of the day today on the blog giving his opinion.
Agree or not. But he did write his opinion (or at least one opinion).
Get with it, or leave.
Guess which I would prefer?
Hey Hov too bad your an a hole with nothing but negativity on this blog!
@big niner next year super bowl is in new Orleans let’s go get manning and we are there!!!!!!
A. Smith and the niners are in meeting, as we post this . Working on the language of his 3 years contract…Next is Wallace od the steelers to sign with the niners..
Rick …. not sure about this one lil fella. Pitts tendered an offer to Wallace.
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Pittsburgh-Steelers-tender-offer-to-WR-Mike-Wallace-031212
Meacham would be better suited for the niners; cheaper too
Wow schefter really lays into Alex on Razorators link. Stop hating Adam just because he didn’t go to an east coast team or NO!! He saw the fire in JH’s eyes and bought in. Now let’s complete this with Peyton!!! A man can dream can’t he?…..
I heard that Jed had left the decision of signing Moss totally up to TB and JH. I love that Jed is relying on his GM and Head Coach to drive the team. This is Eddie DeBartoloesque, let those who know the game make the decisions and he will just sign the checks!
I guess all the talk about Harbaugh not wanting RM in the locker room just went ‘bye-bye.’
This team has made a statement today: We want to win NOW!
OABTW, Alex, just waiting for you to get on board…
BW made a few moves such as OJSimpson, THenderson and RNehemiah – none of them worked out. Oh wait…there was a guy named FDean!! lol
Hofe, don’t forget the ‘animal’ “Hacksaw” Jim Rynolds.
Guess its officially time to eat my words and become a Randy Moss fan, lol! Very interesting move!
LOL!! I’m drinking the kool-aid 49erGirl!! Tastes pretty good ;)
It will be an interesting year to see how he works out? I wasn’t a fan of him signing but if he gets the separation VD seems to gets, who cares?
49erGirl,
I had the feeling this was coming, lol! I just get the feeling this is going to work out, as weird as it seems.
This is a picture of Randy in his new Niner duds!

Darn-it, Big P, I really thought you were serious (lol).
Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Lol. At least it was red Kool Aid.
‘A good chuckle BigP
As soon as possible have Moss and Alex start doing “Go” and 9 routes go go go go go……
Sign Joshua Morgan NOW! Grab a late to mid rounder with some speed and things look pretty effing good!!!
Downfield deep threat receiver respect accomplished with one glaring caveat. Can Smith get him the ball? Stay tuned.
Too bad they didn’t bring him in last year. Would have superbowl trophy #6. What bozos
Lol niner girl!
They said he ran a 4.39 in new Orleans.
Here’s a quote from the 1979 football film North Dallas Forty;
“Everytime I call it a game, you call it a business. And everytime I call it a business, you call it a game.”
If you’re a football fan (and I know you are) catch this film. It’s from a book by ex-Cowboy tight end Pete Gent.
Classic, Andrew. A true Classic!
Nick Nolte. Was looking a bit older at the recent Oscars.

“Nick Nolte. Was looking a bit older at the recent Oscars.”
(lol) Hofe, you’re being to kind!
JH and AS basically did a handshake deal last off season……so whatever drama is being drawn up by the media this instant in time demonstrates the myopic standards of certian jounalists by choosing to marginalize past events with what is transpiring now….
basically, no big deal is how this fan views AS not inking a piece of paper as of yet
would you keep alex smith or try the rookie if we lose smith?
Lowell Cohn:
“So, sure, there is a certain logic about Smith testing free agency. But it’s a big mistake.
Why? Because there won’t be much interest in Smith around the league. Teams surely know him for what he is — a slow-deciding, risk-averse quarterback with a modest arm.
He succeeded last season because Jim Harbaugh, who understands Smith’s limitations, guided him, did not ask much of him, and saved him from himself.”
You were almost prophetic about being preempted by a Randy Moss signing (lol).
I believe that Alex will sign within the next 24 hours. The Org will bend a little as a token of Alex’ renassaince 2011 year. The pluses in Alex’ game this past season far outweigh any minuses. Also, after the R.Moss signing, Alex has to view this as the team’s willingness to surround him with weapons that will benefit his game and growth.
Your points are good. But Alex did enough last year in my opinion to garner a few nibbles around the league. Heck, P.Carroll would probably sign him merely to take a ‘jab’ at Harbaugh (l0l). And Alex’ confidence whether feigned or real, has to be based on Harbaugh’s positive comments about him over the course of the season.
My guess is that Alex may be onboard by this time tomorrow. Wow, suddenly things are moving very fast around here!
“He succeeded last season because Jim Harbaugh, who understands Smith’s limitations, guided him, did not ask much of him, and saved him from himself.”
The big lie does not become a truth by repeating it over and over. When Alex was asked to make a play, he made the play. And if you actually paid attention, Cohn,he played just as well and efficiently under Mike Johnson. With this year’s defense he would have had them deep into the playoffs last year, too. Check it out.
