Vernon Davis and the smell of the Super Bowl

SANTA CLARA – Vernon Davis spoke about the Niners Super Bowl expectations this afternoon, and here’s what he said.

Q: How does it feel to be back?

VERNON DAVIS: It feels awesome. I’m excited about the players we have here. I can’t wait until the season starts. Sometimes you want to skip preaseaon and get right to the season. It’s going to be a good year. I can feel it. I have belief, faith.

Q: Is anything less than a Super Bowl victory a disappointment?

VERNON DAVIS: I have high hopes for this team, high expectations, and that’s something we have to live up to as a team. We’ve got a lot of talent. At this point all I can do it keep my belief and faith and let the chips fall where they fall. I will not doubt anybody on this team.

Q: How is this year different considering how close you got to the Super Bowl last season?

VERNON DAVIS: The thing about getting close to the Super Bowl is we had a chance to smell it. I had never been to the playoffs before. It’s definitely a lifetime experience that I’ll keep with me for the rest of my life. I just pray and believe we’ll do it again. It’s something that we all look forward to because we know what it’s like, we know what the stage looks like.

Q: Is that motivation for this year?

VERNON DAVIS: It’s definitely motivation. That’s why I say this will be a special team. We all know what it takes to get there. It’s going to take one practice at a time, one game at a time.

BONUS Q: Who’s currently the strongest player on the team?

VERNON DAVIS: Justin Smith.

DOUBLE BONUS Q: Who’s the fastest player on the team?

VERNON DAVIS: Ted Ginn.

TRIPLE BONUS Q: Not you?

VERNON DAVIS: Unfortunately, no.

Man Love Vernon hope he cause problems for Green Bays defense why can’t we spread there defense out and get Vernon on 1 on 1 match ups with there DB’s. Then we need to see if Alex can get the ball to him.

Green Bay has moved Woodson to Safety. I think this will help their pass defense tremendously while utilizing hsi speed to send Safety blitzes.
He is a ball hawk, but I think he will also be more proned to injury when our backs and the likes of VD hit the second level.

This season …Vernon will make all the NFL talking heads say ..
    “Gronk…who ?” ..
And you can take that to the bank !

    (But… I still miss the dreds ! :) )

Can’t wait to get this unstoppable train a-rollin’ !

Did you ask these question? Geez. Sounds like someone in grade school conducted this interview.

We should have home schooled you.

Home school does not always work! Nothing like a fathers critique! My 18 year old gets tired of it! But he knows his dad is always proud of him. Even if the coaches and players do not offer a lot of information, it appears Grant is very tenatious on getting all the information he can! You and Mrs. Cohn have raised a great son and this blog is lots of fun. I do disaggree alot on some takes but thank you for the double blast of Cohn!

VD gonna infect defenses all across the NFL.

If you all wonder why I am so high on LaMic watch this clip its on the long side. You will see him run outside, inside, catch screens and other passes, you will see him return a punt. He is elusive and yet he is not afraid to make contact. I watched every play this guy has played in I am telling you he is the real deal.

I like the idea of him and KH together. Some think they are competing. And in a way, they are. But I think the possible matchup problems they give defenses if they are on the field together is much more intriguing.

Once James gets ahold of the offense, and it may not happen till late in the year due to him being a rookie and missing mini-camps due to his school, the Niners will have something most teams can’t stop with their base D.

The Niners will have speed with 2 guys of the backfield, VD up the middle running seam routes, and RM outside. Holes have to show up someplace. As long as they are not in our OL, we have the advantage against any of the elite teams.

      undercenter,

I agree with you 100%. I’ve read numerous stories of people wondering why the Niners took him, how he’s too small to be a feature back blah, blah, blah. This kid is dynamite with the ball in his hands and can run wherever you need him to. He’s the same size as Ray Rice was coming out of College with even more big play ability. I truly believe he is the successor to Gore, with Hunter being the 1B. That’s the way the league has gone with RB’s. So many situational players now.

Interesting. I thought Issac would have been.

    Never underestimate JS!
