Deconstructing the Harbaugh Smile

SANTA CLARA – The 49ers play their third preseason game Sunday night in Denver against the Broncos, and it’s well known that the third preseason game is different from all other preseason games.

Typically, the starters play the entire first half, and the coaches create a game plan geared to what the other team does – they don’t do this in Games 1, 2 and 4; in those games they run “vanilla,”  generic schemes.

Today, I asked Jim Harbaugh if he will game plan specifically for the Broncos – if he will game plan more for them than he has for the 49ers’other preseason opponents.

He hesitated and then he stared into space.

“Umm…we’re…” he stammered, as if he was searching for the perfect word. And then he grinned and said: “Maybe. Maybe a little more, maybe exactly the same. It’ll be pretty close to what we’ve done in the last two (games). That’s the actual answer.”

Another member of the media tried to ask Harbaugh a question on a separate issue, but Harbaugh cut him off. The coach wasn’t finished: “Maybe just a little bit more,” he continued, “but maybe exactly the same as the previous two.”

Then he smiled a big, incomprehensible smile and said, “I’m not trying to be funny,” and lots of people laughed.

Despite Harbaugh’s reluctance to give away any definite information, he almost surely will use Sunday’s game as a dress rehearsal for the regular season. Most head coaches do.

He’s a stickler alright and clearly has no love for the press/media. You might try watching some interviews of Belichick and see what kinds of questions he responds more favorably to and try those on Coach Harbaugh. I only suggest that because BB is also known as a real hard arse on the press and tends to only like certain kinds of questions and I get the impression that Harbaugh might be similar in that way.

Still when you have someone that seems to intentionally act so erratic when posed simple questions it could just be that he enjoys being difficult for you guys.

Or maybe he’s just an a-hole. As long as we keeps producing wins though I couldn’t care less.

    • msclemons67 says:

The Chicago press was brutal to Harbaugh when he was drafted by the Bears. I wonder if that experience molded they way Harbaugh views the press in general.

I think so. I also think that is why JH wanted to give AS a chance more so than perhaps other HC’s might have. Since his own experience so closely resembles AS. He sees himself in AS.

How would it feel to get rid of yourself? TB was done with AS. JH wasn’t.

Lol at MD,.what the hell is BS going to do when AS is not on the team next year.

      • Latino Heat says:

neal you are such a clown and dont even really know what your saying…….if AS is not on the team next year, that means he played awful, therefore that means the niners had an awful season….you clown…is that what your hoping……some fans or if you want to call them that are dummy as……….

      • neal says:

MD, think it is time to save BS and onelame from the cult club, way too much Kool Aid.

      • neal says:

Latino, go smoke a joint, AS is not the answer, he is not the only one that plays QB in the NFL. The niners will be fine without him you putz.

Yes, he sees so much of himself in Alex that he tried replacing Alex with the same guy that replaced him….Peyton Manning.

      • Prime Time says:

Big P how many more times are you gonna bring up the Manning pursuit or what Harbaugh says, Mannings pursuit of the Niners?
Seriously guy, you gotta move on from that, that was offseason news. It’s now 3rd week of preseason, Alex won the job, the Niners have issues they are working on, we’re all getting ready for week one and your still talking about Manning, wow!

      • crab15 says:

MSC – Was the press that bad on Harbaugh in Chicago?

      • DS94everXev says:

        crab

Imagine AS problems on a team that was good. The press was horrible in Chicago to JH. He went to Indy and got a fresh start and was a hail mary away from the Super Bowl. There isn’t another NFL HC who can relate to AS like JH. JH suspected that. So the first thing he did was talk to AS. He liked him enough to convince TB to sign him. AS liked JH enough to stay with a team that really screwed him over.

Without JH, AS isn’t here. And we are talking about improving on a 3-6 win season instead of a muff away from the Super Bowl.

      • Jack Hammer says:

DS, not every topic leads back to ALEX SMITH!!

Harbaugh’s demeanor with the press has nothing to do with Smith, and everything to do with wanting to keep information in house.

      • FDM says:

@BS94everXev, that is sick and demented as I have ever seen. If you have a problem with DS, there are other ways to deal with it, posting something like that is what a 10 yearold would do.
Grant this is why we need to go back to the log in, pretty sure we know who this is.

Good leader does not divulge too much , now some are much better schmoozing like bill walsh, was but he was very no nonsence sometimes cold blooded in some decisions but was o- shucks, It would be frustrating I believe covering the team but I can’t think of another coach getting out ot this team that he does. Do appreciate Grant and the blog he puts together.

  3. Leo49 says:

Must be a slow day. Sounds like a women’s magazine: “Understand exactly what he’s telling you by reading his butt”. Unbelievable.

  4. Razoreater says:

Coach Harbaugh toys with the press who by in large fall right into his trap, and then get upset about it while holding a grudge for weeks. The only way to get any real concrete information from Coach Harbaugh is to either be on his staff or an immediate family member. He’s not wired like most coaches so don’t be surprised or disappointed if he plays Denver almost exactly with the same flavor…vanilla.

  5. ninermd says:

  6. Stan says:

Maybe yes, maybe no. And I’m firm about that. Jim never tires of that joke…

  7. Hoferfan67 says:

Grant, nice read. Made me laugh because I could see it as you described it in you writing.

There’s a video on youtube of JH on Chron live back in 2009. He is being interviewed live by guest host Dave Benz with TFitzgerald and DFlemming in studio. JH was gracious, engaging, respectful, and he answered the questions. Not sure why he is so different with the 9er media.

    • DS94everXev says:

I think a lot of it has to do with AS hof. The first big thing JH did was to work with AS and meet with him. Got to know him. One way to get AS to play better was to create this whole “us against the world” view. AS’s career works well in that respect.

It worked to the tune of 13-3. So why change it?

      • Hoferfan67 says:

BW took the “it’s us against them approach” and it worked for him as well. He mellowed later in his HC career and was more open. I guess he realized that if he spoke to the media in respectful terms and gave them a few tidbits, he wasn’t giving away the battle plans for “Operation Overlord”. It’s chess not war.

      • AES* says:

Good thing the Defense didn’t get that memo DS. Perhaps we would have gone 16-0!

        C’mon DS, really?

      • Jack Hammer says:

Hofe, do me a favor when you get time, this is for you only please. Not Niner related. Go to youtube and type “A Decade of Dominance (1986)” then watch at 0:21 for just 15 seconds. Thanks

        I’ll check that out. Thanks.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Interesting…I wonder if Madison Bumgarner has any family ties to the great James Garner. His name before becoming an actor was James Bumgarner.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Crab, if I was on the right video, was that you hitting that home run?? Pretty cool dude.

      • crab15 says:

Hofe – Interesting comment about James Garner, I didn’t know he was a Bumgarner. I watched him in the Rockford files as a little squirt.
Yes, that’s me many moons ago. Chicago Whitesox Manager & former stud player Robin Ventura was on first base in front of me. We lost in College World Series later that year. I still keep in touch with Ventura fortunately. Ventura manages in the big leagues & I’m coaching 4-5 yr old t-ballers right now. Lol….Thanks for the favor.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Crab, good stuff. I was a better football and basketball player than baseball although a few years back I started playing city softball with friends and I can still hit. My fielding was not so good especially at twilight – lose the ball off of the bat. lol

      • crab15 says:

Right on Hofe. Keep hitting well man. You’re more active than me and probably have better eyesight.
I’m enjoying the old Harbaugh youtube interview still. I can listen to both Harbaugh brothers talk football all day. I better run now Hofe, I over blogged today and pissed a few people off. :-) Beat LA

  10. Ari says:

Given the quality of the questions and answers at the usual post game press conferences I’m surprised any one cares at all.

It’s just an opportunity to see if any one says anything stupid – analogous to watching NASCAR to see the collisions off the walls or spin-outs into the infield.

  11. undercenter says:

The key to Harbaugh is in the last sentence of Grants blog. “Most head coaches do.” The word “Most” is not a word that fits Harbaugh. Its like this – Harbaugh is working thru something. Maybe he is still suffering from the headache the stripped men gave him on Sat. You know the ones that he cant talk about. Maybe they are working thru something too!!!

  12. neal says:

That made me laugh, classic Jim, never to give away a game plan.

  13. AES* says:

No revelation here. Harbaugh treats the media as if it’s a necessary evil.
I’m sure that Harbaugh has read the area media over the last season treat some of remarks with sarcasm and ridicule.

    Case in point:
The calling of Alex being ‘elite’ the calling of MC as having the best hands he’s seen and of course the Payton episode. These were certainly stories that the media sneared at and gave life too.

Harbaugh treads very lightly around the media, and perhaps for good reason.

  14. investasy says:

No one says no to Harbaugh and does not suffer the consequences. Especially not Peyton Manning. Peyton will be hitting the grass and often.

  15. RednGold1 says:

The Jim Harbaugh smile, the Mona Lisa smile, the Grant Cohn smile,

Smiling Faces sometimes they don’t tell the truth
    and I got the truth…
From the song: Smiling Faces covered by The Undisputed Truth

  16. crab15 says:

I’d like to see us blitz Peyton Manning Sunday like the Saints did to us last preseason. Show him he chose the wrong team.
I doubt Harbaugh/Fangio would lower themselves to the Saints level though. I guess I should be over the Manning Niner rejection by now but I’m still surprised he chose Denver.
That scumbag Gregg Williams defense blitzed us 32 times in 46 pass plays that preseason game!
Remember what Williams said before our playoff game?

    — Go after 49ers quarterback Alex Smith’s head.

    — “Put a lick” on 49ers receive Kyle Williams, who has suffered concussions in the past, “to find out … about his concussion.”

    — “Take out” receiver Michael Crabtree’s ACL; the anterior cruciate ligament in the knee.

    — “Beat Frank Gore’s head.” Williams said he wanted the 49ers running back to be “running sideways. We want his head sideways.”

“Kill the head, the body will die,” Williams says several times.

  17. AES* says:

    *the media against Alex*

  18. Hov says:

Hey grant do you think the 49ers will look into signing Shawne merriman????

    • Ninermd says:

Beat me to it. Im thinking a good depth LB, Can still stop the run. And probably be cheap.

      • 23jordan says:

With a linebacking Corps thats thin because of injury, Merriman can’t seem to stay healthy himself. If he can’t play for the bills, he couldn’t play for this D either. This defense is elite. Merman is broken, and Harbaugh won’t bring a former doper in here. Although I wouldn’t mind seeing ifbhe had anything left.

      • Ninermd says:

Good perspective 23. But playing with more talent around him could help him also. I doubt they will look at him, but hey who’d a thunk Moss.

      • Prime Time says:

Cmon 23, are you related to Josh Johnson like you said then didn’t say? Just curious, yes or no?

  19. Ninermd says:

    +1

  20. JDilla says:

So this is what happens when practices become closed to the media. Yawn…

  21. Ninermd says:

Good night Faithful. And Grant…..Dont forget the million dollar “did AS miss Moss” question. Im hoping he didnt. And will take that shot A LOT this season. Dont want that Bears jersey on my skin.

    • 23jordan says:

      MD,

Alex missed him but what’s new.we’ve seen it for years. We know Smith’sfield vision is very questionable. Remember the Ravens game from last year. QB’s are going to miss receivers. That’s a part of the game. I’d rather him have missed Vernon on that play. I just wonder, like always, will Smith threaten the entire football field. All his career, we’ve seen all of this conservative play. He gets
Labeled by the media for being conservative and for not being agressive and he brings Cam Newton into the conversation. The front office tries to upgrade the offense by bringing in weapons to help the red zone and 3rd down. However,so far, though its only preseason, it remains to be seen.
Alex has some major incentive to play well this week. After all, he is playing against the QB that the front office tried to replace him with.Let’s see if we finally see him play with a chip on his shoulder. I know I woul want to.

      • Prime Time says:

You sound like old man trying to return soup in a deli. Look 23 welcher, just answer my question, are you related to Johnson like you said then took back?
I’m just trying to see if your credibility on the blog is legit now considering your embarrassing bet you made and then welched on. Heres your opportunity to show the world what your really made of? It’s up to you, so what is it, related or not?

      • crab15 says:

23J – GB is 6.5 point favorites vs Niners week 1. That’s a slap in the face to Alex Smith & Niners. Total lack of respect. If this doesn’t motivate Alex to go “balls out” vs the Pack than nothing will. Alex can silence all of his critics by outplaying Aaron Rodgers and defeating GB!
        I hope he does it.

      • 23jordan says:

        Crabs,

Until I see Alex Smith threaten a safety on the opposing team’s defense. Until i see this guy, look downfield and het rid of the football and stop taking somany hits. Until I see our offensive line pass block a whole lot better than they did last week. Until I see Tramaine Brock off of this roster. I think that 6.5 point spread on the road may be good. I would love to say we’re gonna kill the packers. I can’t. Not as long as Rodgers is over there. We are going to struggle against these elite QB’s Crab because everyone knows ours is just average. We all know that’s the truth.

Crabs, don’t get it twisted, I’m a diehard. We’re going to have to depend heavy on our running game to beat the packers. Assisted by our special teams and defense. Same keys to us winning last year.

      • claude balls says:

        @23welcher:

You mean last year when the team went 13-3 and then beat the Saints (whom you said the 49ers could not beat) in the playoffs?

        That doesn’t sound so bad.

      • ninermd says:

All fair points 23… Those are my concerns also, but I still have the feeling smith will get better in those areas. Yes the Moss “non throw” is something he has done for awhile now. And his deer in the headlights play is still there, but these have to be addressed by the coaches and worked on. I trust harbaugh and smith to get this done. I’ve giving him this season to see if he improves those things, after all it is just a pre season game and one miss if that’s the case. Let’s see if he’s going to get better or if he’s hit his ceiling. I hoping on the first. ;-)

It seems getting on Harbaugh’s good side is be a lifelong buddy of his from his battles in the trenches or buy into his sharply defined code of honor. Insinuating he is a liar will definitely not get you there.

  24. Sean in Canada says:

What if the now infamous “missed throw” of the devastating loss in preseason game 2 wasn’t a miss at all? Anyone think maybe Vernon was the first read? If the first read is open wouldn’t it get thrown? Since nobody, myself included, knows what the call was and what the progression was to say AS missed RM is just a guess. If someone from the team with knowledge of the playcall comes out and says that they missed one to RM on that play then fine.

That’s my rant. Keep up the good work, Grant. Really enjoy your good and not so good updates.

    • Rusty_in_OC says:

      Good rant, Sean. +1

    • FDM says:

I think its just a matter of a certain group trying to find fault, any fault when it comes to Alex. Be prepared for this all year long as every throw, read, INT, TD will be given a certain level of blame or criticism. Just watch!

      • DS94everXev says:

        FDM

Sean knows that. As does everybody who was around since at least last year.

It went from, “just win”,to “he isn’t putting up elite stats” without a single compliment in-between.

All the while the elite QB’s of AR/DB/and a bunch of other QB’s who are supposedly better, watched the Niners play in a game they couldn’t get too.

If it’s about winning, why complain? It isn’t about winning. Never was with that group.

      • ribico says:

        +1000 FDM

    • brotha Tuna says:

I couldn’t agree more with you Sean. The missed throw, which almost certainly wasn’t, has been so often repeated and over-anguishized, er, over-analyzed that’s its now become an historical fact. Reminds me of the “Birther” mentality.

      • ribico says:

And now that want Grant to pester Smith over who was the first read, whether he saw Moss open, etc.

Grant, better not do it, your reputation at the team offices will surely suffer. Oh wait.. might as well.

      • BOS49er says:

Except that Moss was covered on that play. Ive watched it over and over and Kareem Jackson(#25) is in Moss’ hip pocket the whole time with help from #38 in the midle of the field.
After initially beating KJ off the line and taking an inside release moss is 5 yrds down field and jackson turns all the way around and is less than 2 ft away from him when the ball is released.
Below is a link to a story on webzone. in the top right there is a still photo of the play while the ball is in the air. if u look at moss (top right of pic) you will see that KJ is right on top of him (so much so that u can only see KJ’s leg)
        http://www.49erswebzone.com/commentary/1026-the-curse-of-alex-unbelievable/
After seing that anyone who says that Moss was “WIDE OPEN” is misleading at best or just doesnt know football

      • Jack Hammer says:

LoL Bos. The story you link to say’s exactly the opposite of your comment.

You are correct that Jackson is running with him, but the only way for him to get to the ball is to go through Moss. Doesn’t matter, Smith hit Davis instead and he dropped it.

We’ll see what comes up this week. Should be interesting.

      • Prime Time says:

Run the ball, play good defense, win the field position battle, don’t turn it over. Its old school, it’s the Harbaugh way, it works in the NFL, especially during the playoffs, the haters don’t like it cause it does not help their fantasy football outlook on the game, but winning is what matters most!

      • bayareafanatic says:

That sounds great prime, but why would JH seek another QB in the offseason? Why would he bring in not one, but two deep threat wide receivers? Why would he do all of this if he was happy with playing Singletary ball? Wrong much??????

      • Jack Hammer says:

        Bay,

I tend to agree with you that Harbaugh would like to be more explosive in the passing game. That being said, adding the new WR’s was a necessity since they only had 3 on the roster going into the offseason.

      • Prime Time says:

Bay once again your football IQ comes under question. You seem to have to have things explained to you over and over again like a 4 yr old.
Manning maybe was pursued, maybe Manning pursued the Niners, in any event, every single team in the NFL should have inquiried, he is a HOF, why not kick the tires.
As for the new WR’s, they had zero playmakers, they had to upgrade the unit entirely. I highly doubt JH changed his philosophy over night to a deep passing attack which you love. However, don’t be disappointed Spanky cause it wont happen, there not airing it out. They will continue to run the ball, they added 2 new RB by the way, play good defenses, try not to turn it over and win the field position battle and time of possession.
Look at what Alex does well if you can. He is able to sustain long, time consuming drives. How does he do this? They run the ball, some play action, short to intermediate concise throws that chew up clock and keep their defense off the field.
This is the Niners way, it’s JH’s way, it won 13 games and if you dont like it or disagree with it, well your close to Oakland, take a bus and head over to black hole where you belong!

      • FDM says:

Oooooooh Prime, I think you just knocked that out of Candlestick!

      • crab15 says:

Prime – If the Niners have upgraded the WR unit entirely as you say, then why are Moss & Manningham not listed AHEAD of Ted Ginn Jr. or Crabtree on the depth chart?

      • Neal says:

        @ Jack,

South Beach was amazing, great restaraunts and a real hot spot, where you see the Young, the Beautiful and the Rich. We ate at the restaraunt where Versace had his last meal, forgot the name of it but it was a cafe, and then walk over to Versace estate where he was gunned down, it is some sort of private club now, and heavily guarded. My bro lives in a modest studio a block away from the beach.

Now I am in Coconut Creek at my Parent’s condo, just north of Ft. Lauderdale and home tomorrow. Sorry this is sounding like Face Book.

      • Prime Time says:

Crab 15, depth chart at this stage of the season is just a formality. To me it’s just something the team must submit to keep the media happy.
If you listen to Greg Roman a couple weeks back he states that the depth chart really has no bearing on the final roster this early into training camp. He explained it like the stock market, some days some players are up, some days they are down. It fluctuates daily with their performance in practice and preseason games.

      • Jack Hammer says:

You are living the dream Neal! Sounds like good times. Enjoy.

      • crab15 says:

Pime – Thanks for your take. I actually think it’s slightly disrespectful to Moss that he isn’t listed solely as one of the starters over Ginn, Manningham or Crabtree. Moss is in great shape, he’s being a good teammate and he working very hard.
After all he’s accomplished, he deserves a little more respect IMO.
        Extra motivation I hope.

      • Prime Time says:

Crab 15 I said the same thing about Crabtree in that I needed to see more this year from him to be declared a number one. I got labelled as a hypocrite, hater and AS only supporter.
Moral of the story, careful how you describe Crabtree to Jack and AES, according to them he has done enough in his time in SF to be a #1, stats are everything to these guys!

      • Jack Hammer says:

        Crab15,

Although he is opaque with the media, I think Harbaugh is very transparent with the players, and Moss knew what role they wanted him to fill prior to signing. That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Moss lining up at WR with Crabtree to start the GB game.

      • DS94everXev says:

        @crab15

ALL players must prove themselves on THIS team. That is the JH way. If JH broke that rule for anybody (even RM), then the players lose respect for JH. That is why Ihave said this whole offseason that if MC is a starter, he will have earned it. Not because of his draft status. Now, he needs to play well to remain a starter. But that goes for all the players, so it is a mute point.

    • Crabapple1234 the Diva says:

Great list, really means a lot. I’ll put it up there with the half dozen or so other ranking lists that have already been put out by pretty much every other sport site. Nice find, hadn’t seen one of these before.

    • undercenter says:

      @Crab

Nice cut and paste, always fun to read those kind of things. One thing tho I dont think Ginn is a starter, I think thats more or less Harbaugh not wanting to put Moss/Manningham in harms way. Crabtree is our number one receiver I just dont think Ginn is a starter when the season starts. But with Harbaugh at the helm it is usually hard to figure what he is thinking, and I like that.

      • crab15 says:

Center – I just wanted to hear Primes answer.
To me, Moss is clearly the best WR on the Niners. Even at his age. I need to see more from Crabtree this year for me to say he’s our #1 WR. MC’s blocking has been amazing but blocking is part of your job.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Crab, I think the 9ers surprise some folks with their specialized packages. All of the WRs will play a part including TG. The preseason is being overly scrutinized with vanilla offense thus far. The 9ers will be fine.

      • crab15 says:

Hofe – Agree, the preseason usually is overly scrutinized.
I heard something very interesting on sports radio yesterday from former Dodger Eric Karros.
He said “the last two NFL SB Champs (GB, NYG) and the last two MLB WS Champs (SF, STL) all made it into the playoffs on the last day of their regular seasons.”
Momentum at the end of the regular season is most critical.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

“Momentum at the end of the regular season is most critical.”

Yeah, I agree. It also helps to be/stay healthy. I saw a replay of the Championship NYG game and FG didn’t have his usual burst. He was getting pulled down behind the line of scrimmage in a (wet) game where he usually excels. Anyhow, good times – looking forward to the GB game.

      • DS94everXev says:

Funny how the mind of the fan works

All off-season we say “Pre-season games mean nothing. Can’t judge anything.”

Then, the time comes for the pre-season games, and we sit here and analyze every little play like it was the Super Bowl. Maybe it’s because we have been without football for so long, we don’t take our own advice and say “Pre-season means nothing.”

      • crab15 says:

DS – That was actually a good post. You said a lot with just a few words. Bravo

      • DS94everXev says:

        Thanks….I think.
        :- )

    • bayareafanatic says:

      Prime,
thank you for the kind response. Also thank you for pointing out the obvious. The 49ers pursued Manning. Since he is a HOF QB, it was potentially a great move for our franchise, especially if you are a Niner fan.
My question to you is, why did you and your group of Alex cronies stop posting that week? You had nothing positive to say about it. It’s right there, you can go back and look. I saw many REAL 49er fans posting their excitement to get a chance to upgrade the QB position.
Seems like you, DS, OneAlex and whatever other ID you posted under and Hofer probably posted 80% less than you usually post. You couldn’t stand that the organization was admitting that the QB position was deficient. But go ahead, tell us how you are a real 49er fan while you continue to trash Crabs……

      • ribico says:

bay, drop the REAL fan thing. No one appointed you keeper of the fandom.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

You are incorrect – I did post my displeasure. If you are going to scrutinize the (9er) QB play this preseason why not start with the 9er that didn’t happen (PM). His numbers look interesting…

Bay, why not root for improvement across the board – each and every player. You seem to want to see poor play from the QB spot. Don’t you have faith in the 9er coaches?

      • Bayareafanatic says:

Sorry Rib. Did you get your feelings hurt that I didn’t lump your name in with the Smithers?

      • ribico says:

        Don’t flatter yourself, Bay.

Haters complain when Smithers post too much, they complain when they don’t post enough. Gives an insight into why they will never be happy with Smith, no matter how much the team wins.

Hey, I got my tix for the Jets-9ers game, that’s the one you are coming out for, right?

      • Bayareafanatic says:

Wow way too easy. So Hof you posted negatively about bringing in. hOF QB because you didn’t want Alex replaced.
The football world and the entire bay area was in a buzz and you prefered JH to continue to work with Alex Smith. Alex who after 8 years still has to work on his pocket presence….

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Yes I did. I didn’t see JH blowing up the whole offense for one player that may give the 9ers 2 years tops. Rebuilding is a long term process and shouldn’t be changed in 2-3 years yet again. The plan, system and program JH installed last year is in place and running. There are no guarantees of a SB win with an older and still healing PM at the helm especially when PM in his prime before the injuries only had one SB. Ultimately, I believe that is why PM chose Denver. They were the one team that would let him call the shots with the offense.

      • 23jordan says:

        Bay,

Most of the Smithers did stop posting. They were sick to their stomachs. At that time, they didn’t care about the team. They were thinking about Alex was he safe on that trip to Miami? However Hofer was still posting. He was irrational but he was still posting. He talked about his preference of the Niners having a home grown QB. Like Kap. Hofer was distraught.
You gotta admit. The same problem we ended last season talking about, were discussing it this season. Alex Smith can’t see the entire field. We saw this tears ago, even when Sing was coaching, receivers were complaining about not getting the ball downfield when they are open. We remember the Raven game. We remember the Giants playoff game. We know Moss from last week. That is why we were after Manning. we had a real chance at a better QB and we knew ours had deficiencies.
Manning is a punk for not coming here. We may never really know the real reason why he didn’t come here. I hope we kick his arse this weekend.

      • DS94everXev says:

“Haters complain when Smithers post too much, they complain when they don’t post enough.”

        Very true rib!

If I for instance don’t answer their questions, they get so upset they have an accident in their pants. If I do answer them, they tell me to not post.

        Haters. Gonna hate.

    • 23jordan says:

      Hofer,

I just hope we don’t have this same conversation Saturday night. Tell Alex to keep his eyes down the field and stop being concerned with the O line. They are doing their job, it would be nice to see all these new toys being used in this offense. Our o line is far from perfect, but we definitely need to see Smith show some pocket presence. Stop stumbling into sacks. You know Hofer, stuff like that.

    • BOS49er says:

      Jack
You are correct the guy who wrote it said moss was wide open in the end zone. He must not have seen the picture attached to his own article :) thats why I referenced the picture so the people can see for themselvs and use their own judgement.
But point taken water under the bridge.
Other than that the story actually expresses my feelings towards AS pretty accuratley.

      • Jack Hammer says:

        Bos,

The end zone view they used for the replay on the local broadcast is a much better view of the play. It shows the separation and development of the play much better.

      • bayareafanatic says:

        Jack,
they don’t want to hear that. You have TV announcers that had an overhead view of the play, plus replay and saw it live. They all said Smith missed Moss.
Then you have three beat writers all say the same thing.
BUT…… you have the more cerebral crowd that supports Alex in this room that says it was a “diversion” to clear out the underneath for Davis. By the second day the Smithers acted like it was so, without even knowing.
If Barnum and Bailey is missing clowns, they are here disguised as football fans otherwise known as Smithers…..

      • ribico says:

Yes Bay, it was a completely average effort on Smith’s part.

      • FDM says:

Bay did you get your tickets for the Jets/SF game?

      • bayareafanatic says:

I’m not calling Smith names, just stating the obvious. We knew what he needed to work on from last year. It’s preseason. He has the weapons and his is still not programmed to take the shot. And all this picture shows is Moss into his cut with the inside part of the field to work with. And trust me, once that ball is in the air, Randy would have gotten it.
And did you read the writeup? I just don’t understand why some people have to throw their interpretations out as fact….
Yes FDM I did get my tix and my hotel this week. Staying in Manhattan. Tix were super expensive for mediocre tix.

      • FDM says:

        Where are your seats bay?

      • Prime Time says:

      • bayareafanatic says:

FDM are you going to the game? I don’t have my tix with me, but I know I am in the 300 section and I paid about $160 per tix.

      • FDM says:

My buddy in NY is working on getting us some. I just booked my flight 2 days ago.

In other news it looks like R. Wilson is starting over Flynn in the 3rd preseason game, not sure if that means anything but what a shock that would be if Flynn didnt start week one.

      • DS94everXev says:

        Funny

This guy points out the same thing I care about from any player. Making big plays when it matters. Not getting x stats. Also points out another fact I brought up. AS had the better game against the Giants than either AR/MR/TB did. So if AS sucks, how do you describe those 3?

Haters deny it. Still true though.

      • ribico says:

Great Bay, FDM! Mine are sec 108.

I still say we meet at Finnertys before or after the game, get into a drunken Smith-based brawl.

      • FDM says:

        Is it near the stadium?

      • ribico says:

No FDM – Manhattan, East Village. It’s the city’s premier bar for Bay Area refugees.

      • Jack Hammer says:

Thx FDM. Judge was a great read while at the Merc. He says enough to shut up both the Smither and anti-Smith group.

The only thing I beg to differ with him on is that “this offense isn’t built to throw for 4,000 yards and 35 TD’s.” Although it is very balanced, if the QB is efficient, the numbers will come through hitting the big opportunities when they present themselves. Harbaugh’s QB’s at USD, and 2 years ago at Stanford proved that. Is it too much to think that with the new weapons Smith can’t pick up an additional 56 yards per game? If they are improved on 3rd down they will have more opportunities to get them.

      • Jack Hammer says:

        FDM,

Adam Schefter said that if Wilson plays well in his start Friday he will be the guy.

      • undercenter says:

        FDM

Thanks for the article, its good to see people taking notice of our QB.

And by the way I am reading that Peyton Manning is having a tough time making throws to his right.

And one other note it is sure nice to see that the Hawks and Cardinals are going thru the same crap that we have for many years. Makes me smile.

      • claude balls says:

        @FDM:

Thanks for the link to the Clark Judge piece. I had to laugh when I read Judge’s the following quote from Vernon Davis and then Judge’s response thereto:

“Alex has come a long way. He’s making a lot of precise decisions, he’s doing everything the coach is asking of him and he’s being accurate. He’s doing his job, and, at the end of the day, that’s all you can ask of him.”

Of course, that won’t satisfy Fantasy football geeks who want more … a lot more … from Smith. But what they fail to understand is that the 49ers are not built to have their quarterback throw for 4,000-5,000 yards and 35 touchdowns. They’re built on a controlled offense that features Frank Gore and few mistakes, and they’re built on a suffocating defense that hits hard, stuffs the run and forces turnovers.

The guy hasn’t been covering the 49ers for how many years(?) and yet he knows the coach and the team so much better than many of this blog’s regular commenters, and self-anointed REAL fans, who over analyze, pick apart and hyperventilate over every preseason play, looking for reasons not to support their team’s QB.

I’m looking right at you, Bay.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

        FDM, thanks for the link.

I agree with Jack. I believe this offense and the new talent allows for more production passing this year. AS will throw for 4,000 and have stated that here a few times. One of the main reasons is the competition this year. Pounding the ball won’t be enough and the 9ers have yet to prove they can consistently get a 14-21 point lead on elite teams and hold them off with sustained (running) drives in the 4th qtr. Until they do that, they will need to play catch up and passing will be required. I look forward to it.

  26. neal says:

You don’t have to be Urban Meyers that it’s going to take AS a couple of years to get use to the new receivers.

Come on man, the same anouncer said Tolzien has a cannon, and when Cully tackled foster short of the 1st down they said “good tackle by bowman” even when they showed the replay they kept going ” there is bowman #29 making the play” even though the back of his jerzey said culliver so take what the anouncer say with a grain of salt. I watched it on NFLnetwork and i think it was the HOU feed but the anouncers were clueless. but thats besides the point.
Also u said that Moss would have gotten the ball if it was thrown.
How do u know that? He droped CK’s back shoulder fade on the sideline.
And lastly even if RM did catch that he is geting tackled at the 10 by Jackson.
All im saying is: Those who say that RM was WIDE open and would have scored for sure on that play. either dont know or purposly try to dump on AS (as has been done here numerous times)

  27. Chris says:

Way off topic here, but the New England Patriots just showed the 49er organization how to keep ST or JJ (if he is ps eligable) on the practice squad. They did it with a signing of Demp, the Olympic Silver Medalist for a reatively low amount. They guaranteed him 200k of his base salary.

If the organization signed either QB with a guaranteed salary, they could float him on the waiver wire taking away a team’s interest while still keeping the commitment relatively cheap.

    • old coach says:

i believe once a player is on the practice squad any team can sign them as long as they place them and keep them on the 53 man roster and jj cant be placed on the practice squad he has been active for 2 many games

sliding a bit off topic again……….
I thought Foles looked pretty good for a rook at QB last night.
Malik showed some good flashes for NE, and their other qb sure is intense and competitive and pretty mobile.
I was most impressed with Vareen out of Cal; he ran inside & out, returned a kick and was a willing if unpolished blocker. (I can’t recall if he caught anything, but it seems likely in NE offense.)

    • Coffee's for closers says:

Not to take anything away from the kid but it looked like New England was playing it about as plain Jane and vanilla as one team possibly could. The touchdown from 1st & Goal in the third quarter was just atrocious coverage followed by an even worse attempt at a tackle. Surprisingly meek effort I thought, much closer to what you expect from the final pre-season game.

Kid might be pretty good despite the effort from the defense but who knows.

  30. mike says:

Regardless of the media’s treatment of Harbaugh as a player with the Bears, or, for that matter, how Harbaugh was treated as a player by Bo at Michigan or Ditka with the Bears, there is no reasonable excuse for Harbaugh’s lack of professionalism when dealing with the press. You would hope that a person would mature and exhibit some common courtesies, especially as a professional in a sport where media and league hype primarily is responsible for the sport being #1 in the U.S. With a father and a brother also serving as college and professional head football coaches, Harbaugh had plenty of opportunity for role models other than Bo and Ditka, so there is no excuse for his smirks and condescending approach to the media. With his first year successes with the team that far exceeded most expert’s predictions, Harbaugh had an opportunity to build up some serious “political capital” with the media, and, unfortunately, he spurned and squandered that opportunity.

    • brotha Tuna says:

In some ways I think his public persona is more like Buddy Ryan than Ditka or Bo; perhaps by design, but maybe just ornery from the cradle. Wasn’t it his brother who said Jim would race to you to the car or the dinner table or the back yard or the mailbox?

When you get a clue how to act with class and speak football, maybe people on here will return the courtesy.
Until then you and that other clown Bay have established your many attempts at insulting my family members and other areas that are very personal to others. So take your song and dance and beat it!

        @ Jordan,

I would say Prime Heat, is the lowest bottom dweller on the site, he continues to go way past the line, in saying he banged my Mom many times, along with calling my son a dummy. He is nothing but trailer trash.

If you go to a Sporting goods department store, the only jerseys that are available usually are Frank Gore and Patric Willis. Who would wear a Alex Smith jersey other then Alex Smith or BS.

      • ribico says:

Prime, Jordo is right, lay off the kid. He had no choice in who his father is.

    • ribico says:

Tebow is in the top 5 as well. Gee, maybe we should have signed him like Grant was urging.

  34. claude balls says:

Anyone notice this? I must confess that I did not.

Just before a third and 10, Boone said something to Kaepernick before the snap and made an unflattering motion to him. Harbaugh called timeout and looked like he was going to have a stern conversation with Boone.

From Kevin Lynch’s film review: http://blog.sfgate.com/49ers/2012/08/20/film-review-texans-49ers/

    • DS94everXev says:

      Interesting claude .

Just a bit below that Lynch gives his eval of AS. Very different take. Of special note he went over the 4 incompletions, and said MC dropped the pass. A big point of contention among several bloggers here. Looks like a writer saw it the same way I did. Maybe it wasn’t a crazy notion as some here believed.

      • Prime Time says:

Crabtree’s bounce off the hands routine? Our leading reception leader and starting WR? Can hardly wait for week one!

      • DS94everXev says:

        Prime

So far, none of the supposed starters have really impressed me so far. I know it is a very small sample size, and it isn’t counting for much. It isn’t just MC is my point. My concern. Our problem if we are ever to overcome the title defeat. Every other playoff team had a legitimate threat outside. We need one. I don’t give a damn as to who it is. At this rate, I’m cool with it being Demarcus Dobbs. lol

I still believe we will be better later in the season than at the start. And that is when it matters most anyway.

      • Prime Time says:

I have not seen too much of preseason to see anything substantial except for the drops which is standard regarding the WR position in the preseaon. Its hard to say they have or have not improved because the playcalling has been as basic as ever.
The offensive line to me is of most concern. Sunday should reveal more but knowing JH we could see nothing again.

      • DS94everXev says:

        Prime

To me, the drops are more concerning because no matter how vanilla the playcalling may be, that has no impact on a guy catching the ball. As a frame of reference, how many balls did the Texans drop?

The OL issue is 2nd on my list only because the playcalling is so boring. Good playcalling can force a D to 2′nd guess themselves, and slow down a pass rush, get WR’s open, etc. No playcalling expertise level makes up for (corrects) dropped passes. Which to me are the = to a defender not making a tackle. A great playcall by the DC can turn into a TD for the other team if that defender misses a tackle. That happened a lot in 2010. In 2011, we tackled. Thus we were better.

      • Prime Time says:

Your right, too many drops across the board from the vets to the rookies. I don’t have a reason why because really drops are on the individual but like you said awhile ago, it can deflate an offense and be a drive killer.
The one positive that I have seen is that first team offense has come out and led with some good opening drives. The long time consuming drives running the ball and the short passing game will keep the defense fresh. No need to air it out, especially in preseason.

      • DS94everXev says:

        Prime

Unless our WR’s get serious YAC, AS isn’t throwing over 4000 yards. MC or any other WR isn’t getting 1000 yards. MC was 150 yards shy last year, and he was it. VD had less, and 3rd place I have no idea how few he had.

Going off what JH said, we will be rotating our WR’s out a lot, so MC for instance will see fewer plays, and the ball will be spread all over. AS won’t throw it over 30 times a game unless our D sucks. What we need from the WR’s anyway are big plays, in big moments. Not for them to get 300 yards against some worthless team in a blowout, then vanish against a real threatening team.

I think a lot here have this notion we will change our way, and JH ain’t doing that.

    • Jack Hammer says:

      Claude,

DS and Prime, you two are like little imps dancing around an effigy of MC!

You’re feeding frenzy of MC is comedic because even with your wasted energy on MC, he is still our Starter (lol). If you guys can find a way to harness all your wasted hate energy you might become millionaires.

MC will be catching AS’ inaccurate passes all season and even make AS look like a all-pro caliber QB (lol)!

MC (best hands ever, as Harbaugh says) will be the best thing that has happened to your golden boy this year.

There, now that should give you two more reason to dance (lol)!

Micheal Crabtree, 49ers 2012-13 Starting WR
“ALL IN” (with ALL 49er players)!

    • Prime Time says:

I think your overreacting to this whole Crabtree thing AES. It’s time to let #15 show us what he has starting week one and for you to stop babbling about it! All In, well only certain players right floppy?

      • DS94everXev says:

But Prime, AES is the one who decides when all in happens. And he decides that all in means insulting the QB, at the expense of the WR who dropped almost as many passes as he caught in the 2 biggest games of his life. Then blames the QB and coaching staff which made him the leading WR.

AES spent years being far from all in. He isn’t now either.

    • DS94everXev says:

      “AS ‘s inaccurate passes”
Your definition of all in, isn’t. Get with it AES. You say bad things about AS, nothing about MC dropping passes. Not all in. Not a fan by your own definition.

With every post, you prove me right. Here for fighting. Not for defending MC or any other. So MC does not drop, and AS is inaccurate. WOW! Look who is full of flip-foppping and BS they don’t know why they are here.

What if MC isn’t here next year? You won’t be all in because you don’t do as I do. Not what you claim either.

      In JH I trust.

      • Prime Time says:

Best hands JH’s has ever seen, slowest feet I have ever seen!

      • AES* says:

What happened DS/Prime? Got a little AS sand kicked in your face this morning? (lol)

Just you two get a little better perspective of who your leading receiver is, bear this in mind; MC has been more consistent than AS over his career!

Hey, you guys know your 49er history don’t you?
While you two comedians continue to bash MC he has only caught passes fro the likes of Shaun Hill and Troy Smith. Sounds like MC has been a rock of consistency to me (lol).

I know, you two will denigrate both SH and TS to no end, but you can’t change history boys. MC has been more consistent than AS.

Care to comment or refute? (lol)

      • Jack Hammer says:

        AES,

The only reason MC caught passes from Troy Smith was due to Alex being injured in Carolina and later Singletary just being the dumb @$$ that he was with the QB position.

I get your defending MC against these 2, but that was a pretty lame attempt.

      • DS94everXev says:

You are a complete joke AES.

Though, you may have a point. MC has never wanted to be here. AS, for a short time after 2010, wanted to leave. But JH convinced him to give it another shot.

Was MC the leading receiver all 3 years? How many years has he been the leader in TD’s? How many years has he been injured in TC (you got me with that one)?

And, he did drop almost as many passes as he caught in the playoffs, so he is consistent in that regard. Catch a pass. Drop a pass. Very consistent.

You better not be a lawyer, because your arguments suck.

      • Prime Time says:

Flipper what part of let’s see what Crabtree does starting week one and beyond don’t you understand?
You keep coming back with the same weak arguement, let it go dude.
Are you worried #15 won’t perform like a leading WR cause for some reason your hell bent on hashing this out. Let’s let his play do the talking and let your mouth have a rest and your brain another 3 weeks to think up some more BS.

      • DS94everXev says:

        Quite right prime

We have been saying for a long time now to let it play out. AES can’t accept that. He is here to fight. He doesn’t even know what he is fighting about.

If he’s all in, he said “BINGO” to a guy who said AS is garbage, and says AS is inaccurate when MC drops a lot of balls (maybe he secretly means MC is consistently dropping balls, while AS isn’t always as accurate. Which is more true of PM so far this preseason).

He isn’t all in prime. He’s just here to fight man.

  36. matthew abbotmoore says:

    huh

  37. Crab15 says:

FDM – Thanks for the link. I don’t love what I’m hearing from Alex though.

Alex says, “Before (years prior), I felt a lot of times I had to win games by making plays, forcing plays and making them happen.”
“And I really felt last year it was: Do your job. We have 72 plays in a game, and you need to take it one play at a time and throw the ball where it takes you. If it says, ‘Check the ball down,’ then check the ball down.”

Then Alex said this about his improvements last year, “I tried to make decisions and make accurate throws, and I found myself forcing the ball far less.”

I don’t remember Alex trying to win games all by himself or by making plays or forcing plays before last year?
I agree with Alex that he forced the ball less last year but I think that’s one of his issues.
He doesn’t take enough chances IMO. The top NFL QB’s (Rodgers, Brees, Brady) force the ball into tight coverage very often and trusts their receivers to make a play and they do.
I think Alex is way to comfortable with the check down passes.
IMO, from what Alex said in this interview Alex thinks it’s a positive/maturity thing to settle for check down passes rather than take a chance on a big play.
I’m not saying Alex should be a wild gunslinger and just throw the ball up but I believe Smith’s receivers (even if it appears they are covered), would appreciate having to go up and battle for a ball occasionally. Think about it, most of the dropped passes last year were on easy “all alone” catches not in tight traffic.
I want to see the Alex Smith that torched the Saints in the playoffs with his arm, legs, leadership, toughness and risk taking! He was amazing!
I do believe that Alex can be a top ten QB and lead us to Super Bowl if he plays like he did vs the Saints consistently.
    Get it done Alex.

“If he’s all in, he said “BINGO” to a guy who said AS is garbage, and says AS is inaccurate when MC drops a lot of balls (maybe he secretly means MC is consistently dropping balls, while AS isn’t always as accurate. Which is more true of PM so far this preseason).
He isn’t all in prime. He’s just here to fight man.”

    @DS/Prime
No, not here to fight at all guys. Just here to dispel your notion that you need Crabtree to prove himself, while I gave you an illustration that MC has proven himself since coming into the league.

I showed you two that MC has caught passes from at least 3 different QB’ since being here, but you two fail to take that into consideration.

When AS was injured (thanks Hammer) MC was still producing under Shaun Hill and Troy Smith (when AS was benched).

That was the premise of my earlier post. You guys only see the small window of AS and MC. Expand your view guys.

    • DS94everXev says:

      AES

You do realize AS was around before MC right? And he produced without him, right?

      You don’t? Sorry

All in, isn’t all in if he can take shots at the QB to defend his WR. You contradict yourself all the time Mr. All In.

      • 23jordan says:

        BS,

Smith produced what? A list of fired coaches. Twice as many losses as wins. More turnovers than TD passes. More headaches in the fan base Than any Niner QB in history. What the hell did he produce?!?!?!

      • ribico says:

Ah, so it was Smith’s fault those excuses for coaches got the ax? If that’s the case Jordo, get on your knees and worship the ground he stands on.

      • AES* says:

Little problem with comprehension today DS?

Read my post again. It was not used as a ‘shot’ at AS. I was pointing out to you and Prime that while you continue to say that MC needs to prove himself this season, I was stressing the fact that MC has been playing throughout his NFL career to the tune of catching passes from three different QB.’

You and prime can continue your hate agenda against MC all you want. You can complain about all his deficiencies but never give him credit for playing since he came into the league, playing with a sore foot last season, leading the team in receptions and making some catches from AS that weren’t necessarily on target.

Has he dropped passes? Yes, we all know that. But is he our leading WR? Yes!

Sure, he will have to improve. But prove himself as you two say? No. By saying he has to prove himself, it seems to imply that has job is on the line. I don’t believe that is the case.

He (MC) does need to improve, just like every starter does. There’s no new revelation to that.
So maybe I’m interpreting your “MC needs to prove himself” wrong. Care to clarify?

      • Jack Hammer says:

DS says, “You do realize AS was around before MC right? And he produced without him, right?”

What did Smith produce DS? The increase in production from Smith has been gradual since returning from his shoulder injury and replacing Hill as the QB midway thru that game in Houston, which coincidentally was also Crabtree’s first game in the league.

Interesting that the QB you put on a pedestal started playing his best ball when the WR that you continually knock down joined the team.

      • DS94everXev says:

        AES

We have never said hate. You have. Don’t make up stuff. We tried having a civil discussion, and you two couldn’t handle it, and started calling us names. Hate? That was from you. Not us towards MC.

“MC will be catching AS’ inaccurate passes all season and even make AS look like a all-pro caliber QB (lol)!

So, you said AS is inaccurate. Why didn’t you say AS will make such accurate passes to MC this year to make him look like a pro bowl WR? After all, you are all in. And that would include the QB. You didn’t though. If you were all in, you would have written something like:

AS has been working very hard to improve every facet of his game in the offseason. MC came off last year as the leading WR. Together they will be great. Just wait and see

You never do write that though. Just like your minion Jack. Insult the QB, but not the other guy. If you were all in, you are insulting nobody. And nothing you say can possibly be read as insulting. But if you think the above quote of yours can’t possibly be read as insulting, you’re an insult to All in.

“MC (best hands ever, as Harbaugh says) will be the best thing that has happened to your golden boy this year.”

Well, why did the Niners feel the need to get a bunch of new WR’s then? When we had JR/TO, did we ever go out and pick up 2 FA’s spend a #1 on a WR, and a bunch of undrafted guys all in the same year? That is a yes or no question. And the Niners did so for a reason.

Keep up your “MC is the leading WR” talk. Nobody in the NFL really cared. They worried about VD. Where is VD? Who is on VD? VD had a horrible year for him. Yet he ended with 6 TD’s and had as many TD’s in the playoffs as MC did all season. Leading receiver is not a worthy title if another guy is the threat, and they single you all game betting you don’t beat them, and you don’t.

      • DS94everXev says:

Had you said what I had written (along those lines)

“AS has been working very hard to improve every facet of his game in the offseason. MC came off last year as the leading WR. Together they will be great. Just wait and see”

I’m cheering you on. You didn’t. I can’t believe you are stupid enough to not think of it. I did in 5 seconds. You wrote what you wrote to pick a fight. Just as you’ve done the whole time.

      • Jack Hammer says:

DS asks, “why did the Niners feel the need to get a bunch of new WR’s then?”

Of all the arguments against Crabtree that you have made, this is the most ridiculous of all yet you keep asking it.

They only had 3 signed WR at the end of the season and one of those was Joe Hastings. What did you expect them to do, go into the season with only 3 WR’s?

  39. AES* says:

Niether (say they hate) have many here who have critiqued AS. But you have called them haters on more then a few occassions DS.

I have gone on record that I don’t hate AS, but the moment I give an opposing opinion of him, i’m labeled a hater or flipper (lol).
Don’t play that card with me DS. We’ve already been down this road a few times. Not only have you been guilty of calling people haters, but at one time took credit for coining the phrase (lol).
That ship sailed a long time ago, and guess what? We’re both guilty as charged!

    • DS94everXev says:

I have gone on record as saying “haters” have nothing to do with AS. Or MC. Or any player on any team.

How you somehow never saw that, I don’t know. You say I have reading comp issues. You are more severe if you never read my opinion on what a hater is/isn’t.

And when I asked you to stop calling me that, you refused. You could have been “all in” with respecting my wishes, but you weren’t. Look carefully AES at who I call haters. Look at the material they write. md with him claiming I’m racist because I like AS and JS. 23J for his numerous cussing rants last year. Bay for what he wrote about Primes mom. Neal for saying he is only here to fight.

AS has nothing to do with any of that. Nor does MC. We can have opinions on players which differ. That is what I am here for. I have been very careful at who I call “hater”. Maybe others use the term differently from me. I can’t control that. But, when you called me a hater, and I asked you to stop, and you didn’t…that is hating from you to me. Notice how neither AS or MC are mentioned at all.

You claiming I’m not a fan is also highly disrespectful. I NEVER said you weren’t a fan when you were flip-flopping with AS. Maybe others have. I didn’t. You need to direct your issues with some at them. Not bring me into it.

  40. AES* says:

    DS:

    @DS
You’re correct. We never went after other WR’s. But we never took interest in other QB’ during that time like the Org did over the spring with PM.

I guess what I’m trying to say is this, your knife has two edges to it. It can cut (bash) MC, but the very same critique (knife) can be used for AS.

At least we can agree that they both need to improve in areas of weakness.
MC needs to get better at getting open and catching the ball. AS will need to trust his new WR’s by throwing to their areas and letting them make plays. This is especially true of RM who has made a career of this. If these two can meet and conquer these areas in their game, we’ll be bringing SB trophy #6 home!

    • DS94everXev says:

You could have said what I suggested:

“AS has been working very hard to improve every facet of his game in the offseason. MC came off last year as the leading WR. Together they will be great. Just wait and see”

You didn’t. I would have cheered you on for saying it. You must know I would. You are smart enough to know that. So, you didn’t write it. You wanted a fight. You got one.

Why can’t you admit that had your writing style been different from the start of this thread, it would have resulted in vastly different posts from me, you, others? You chose a certain tone to your post. You knew it was knock on AS, but you wrote it anyway.

I will take responsibility for it. You can spin it as you like.

    • DS94everXev says:

You don’t have the same definition as I do AES. And if you really subscribe to your definition, you have written plenty here last year alone that qualifies you to be a hater.

      • AES* says:

Unscrambled; you have spewed your fair share of hatred around bud. But keep spinning (lol).
