SANTA CLARA – Mario Manningham spoke in the Niners media tent for the first time Saturday morning. He talked about his first impression of the playbook, his relationship with Randy Moss and the depth chart at wide receiver. Here’s a transcript.
Q: Have you noticed anything with this playbook that you weren’t anticipating?
MANNINGHAM: It’s easier than the offense I came from.
Q: How so?
MANNINGHAM: It’s a West Coast Offense – everything is by words. It’s much simpler.
Q: Does that make it easier for you on the field?
MANNINGHAM: Yeah, because when you’re out there thinking while you’re running you don’t play fast.
Q: What’s it like working with Randy Moss? It seems like you guys communicate a lot in practice?
MANNINGHAM: I try to pick his brain about every little thing knowing he’s seen so many different coverages, played with so many different quarterbacks and offenses. I ask him about details, like how to get off a jam and how to attack different angles.
Q: Jim Harbaugh said you guys have five No. 1 wide receivers. Do you expect that to continue?
MANNINGHAM: I feel like if you put any of us in there, we can get the job done. That’s the confidence we have and the confidence the coaches have in us.
Q: Is that OK with you and Randy Moss and Michael Crabtree – that there aren’t set starters?
MANNINGHAM: As long as we’re winning, nobody will have anything to say. Yeah, we have a bunch of good receivers and there’s only one ball, but if we’re out there winning, if we have to go out there and run the ball the whole time to win that’s perfectly fine with me.
Q: Could you compare the passes of Eli Manning and Alex Smith?
MANNINGHAM: They’re two different quarterbacks.

“they’re two different quarterbacks” – what a politically correct response.
Regardless, both he and RM signed here knowing AS is the QB. Must mean they think more of AS than some fans do.
If you watch the press conference video on 49ers.com, Mario’s facial expression and hand gesture says it all when asked that question… He joined the team because of the potential to go far. Going far has more to do with the abilities of this shutdown defense and elite special teams unit than Alex Smith… Mario wasn’t going to go there though.
He left a superbowl winning team, so he didn’t come here to “go far”. Surely coming to SF was about the money first. Chances are, our poor qb play will make him look bad, as has happened to so many other wr’s we’ve had in the last 7 years. At least he got the payday he wanted.
Ummm…the WR is 100% dependent on the QB to get him the ball. He came here. He could have gone back to NY if he feels AS isn’t able to win.
And you work with the CIA I assume. Because I work for the WTF (World Trade Federation) and came to a different conclusion:
He signed here for the chance to start here. He has no chance to start in NY. He does here. Thus he signed because this team is good, and he thinks he can give the Niners a real WR threat that they lacked last year.
TB does not overpay for a player. He didn’t match the Redskin offer for Josh Morgan. He didn’t give in to DG who were 2 million apart.
TB didn’t overpay for MM. And consequently MM wasn’t offered more than his fair market value.
MM didn’t sign here to win that elusive title or for the money guys. Is it so hard to believe they are fine with AS as the QB?
Niners fan, Manningham deal is 2 years and up to 7 million, hardly cashing in!
My Mother always said if you can’t say something nice about someone then don’t say anything. Manningham chose to say nothing, lol. He was raised right !
TIM
Agree! He said nothing nice at all about EM. Are you two brothers?
No one followed up with that?
One is going to the Hall of Fame.
Sorry about the redundant post IPhone acting.up.
You both come across like sniveling drama queens trying to justify your football knowledge… At least from a 3rd party point of view for what it’s worth…
Not worth much
And this is for you GRANT,read and learn from someone who knows !

Thanks Tim Need to put Jenkins in perspective.
Children’s hour around here… I already dislike this Mario guy. Sounds like a stuck-up twerp…
jenkins problems sure sound a whole lot like jerry rice’s problems the first half of his rookie yr IE playing inside his own head. thats not to compare him to rice its just a very very common issue among rookie wide outs. i remember very clearly during the first half of rice’s rookie campaign both glen dickey and lowell cohn calling him a huge mistake by bill walsh
oldcoach
Since JH came from Stanford like BW, and brings back the offense BW did, maybe Grant is doing as his fatherhad done. Complaining about AJ as his father complained about JR. And how did that turn out for us the first time?
Do you believe history repeats those who don’t learn/understand it?
:- )
DS needs to grow up and get rid of the ego that has nothing to support it. What a nitwit. Compares himself to JH. Now that is funny. Being condescending doesn’t mean he’s smart. It just illustrates his insecurity and it is monumental.
As to Ninerfan, he should be forced to relinquish that username. He is nowhere near being a Niner fan.
From a guy who calls himself a wizard, I’ll take that advice about me having an ego under guidance.
Which wizard school did you attend? Are they accredited? You’re reading comp unit sucked. Because I’m not comparing myself to JH. I do think that philosophy is a good one, and what is wrong with that? If you’ve read any blogs, I have written “In JH I trust” more than any other here. That means I don’t compare myself to JH FYI.
Learn to read before you fire insults. Wanting to follow a few traits that the HC of the year follows isn’t like listening to music from a murderer of 20 and wanting to follow their advice.
After your post, I’m convinced 1/2 your name is accurate. It isn’t the “wizard” part.
The “know it all” of the blog. Bs is a legend in its own mind. 1/4 of the posts already. Can you say NO LIFE LOOOSER!
Let’s Go with LOSER, but his knowledge is twisted and not logical. Its almost he is on crack and watching a game.
Not homophobe at all, just the facts DS, your football knowledge is twisted and your knowledge is next to nothing. I would say you are the biggest blowhole on here with your propaganda thoughts, your are noting but a fictional character on this blog. Keep dring your Kool Aid, you OLD BAG.
Time to lighten the mood.
