Roman says the offense will be “pretty basic” against the Vikings on Friday

SANTA CLARA – Greg Roman spoke Tuesday about Colin Kaepernick, Kendall Hunter and the team’s approach to the preseason, among other things. Here’s a transcript, courtesy of the 49ers.

Opening Statement:

“How’s everybody doing today? Getting ready for our first preseason game. Obviously for a lot of the young guys, it’s a really exciting week for them. They got their first game plan book handed to them today. Kind of going through the process of game week preparation. There’s no 20 hour rule in the pros, so for these guys, this is their profession. So really from now until game time, we’re going to try to get them to represent themselves the best they can against the Vikings. We’ve got a lot of respect for the Vikings and their organization. Look forward to getting out there and hitting somebody else besides ourselves. I know our guys are looking forward to that. Any questions?”

Last preseason, obviously QB Colin Kaepernick was not just a rookie, but a rookie coming out of the lockout. Was he in some ways a little bit overwhelmed by all that was thrown at him?

“I don’t think he was overwhelmed. I think he was grinding through it, might be a better way to put it. It was a completely different offense, playing under center for the first time with a new group of players who you really haven’t played with before. Definitely, there’s a curve there. I think there’s a little bit better opportunity for Colin having had a season under his belt, approaching this preseason to go in and play with confidence, know what he’s doing, know what he’s seeing. A lot of the stuff, thankfully, he won’t be seeing for the first time. I think it’ll be a really good opportunity for him to show us what he can do.”

In what ways in the past year has he made improvements?

“I’d say across the board really. Really just starting with taking the center snap. Understating defenses, which are completely different in the National Football League. Understanding protections, which are completely different in the National Football League. I don’t want to turn this into a football clinic, but the offense he came from; there wasn’t a lot of pro style mechanisms to it. That’s a big curve to overcome in a short period of time. He’s grinding through it every day. He’s doing really well. I really like his attitude. I really like how he’s maturing as a player. He’s a unique guy. He’s a lot of fun to work with, looking forward to seeing him out there.”

Last preseason the coaching staff had different needs. You hadn’t seen your players at all. What is the overall philosophy on how you’re taking these four games that is different than last season?

“I think it’s the same, I really do. I think we have a little bit more knowledge about who we have, what they can do. I know we have a lot more knowledge. We’re trying to ready, specifically our offense for the season. Not so much the preseason, a game. We’re trying to get ready for the season in its entirety. A lot goes into that, a lot of forethought, a lot of hard work by our players. Part of that is really the process of going through a game week, going through our base game plan on the first day of the week, moving onto situational stuff from there. Just getting into that process and seeing how guys study and prepare. Really for the young guys, you’re teaching them how to prepare. So, we’ve got a lot more understanding of the guys that have been here and beyond that though, it’s still a matter of preparing for the season.”

How much in a Week 1 preseason game do you prepare specifically for the opposition, compared to just getting your own stuff ready?

“I don’t think there’s a lot of game planning per se that goes into it. We’re going to be pretty basic. We’re going to ask our players to do basic tasks that aren’t necessarily opponent specific. I think there’s a big difference between the preseason and regular season. From an evaluation standpoint it’s a great tool, just watching players adapt to maybe different formations you might put in for that week. The plays are pretty much basic plays, and not a lot of real game planning that goes into it.”

Coach Jim Harbaugh singled out RB Kendall Hunter as one of his top performers in camp, in what ways have you seen Kendall develop going into year two?

“Great question. Kendall, the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear Kendall Hunter’s name is football player. He loves football. He loves to get out there and compete, he enjoys it. He always gives his maximum effort. I’ve never seen Kendall Hunter have a bad day, or a bad snap where he wasn’t totally tuned into football. I just think a lot like Kap [Colin Kaepernick], we were talking about earlier, Kendall came from a spread option type of offense at Okie State [Oklahoma State]. Now, he had a very nice year last year for us. He’s really starting to understand all the different things that go into playing running back in this league, which is more than just carrying the ball. It’s pass protection, route running, catching the ball, ball security, which he’s been very good at, and the special teams aspect of things as well. Kendall’s just becoming a more well-rounded football player. We’re really glad we have him. Kendall is a heck of a football player who gets better every day.”

Do you guys have any expectations for WR Michael Crabtree’s availability on Friday?

“Not going to comment on that. Talk to coach. He’ll probably say the same thing. He’s working through something and we’ll have to wait and see and evaluate it. It’ll probably be a last minute decision.”

What’s the plan for Friday now that you have your ones, twos and threes? What’s the rotation?

“We haven’t set that in stone yet. I think we have a general idea of that. We’ve got a couple of big practices here today and tomorrow and then we’ll kind of hone in on that type of stuff. But we’ve got a lot of ground to cover the next couple days. We know those discussions are looming, but we’re really focused on having a great practice today.”

How have RBs Kendall Hunter and LaMichael James done in blitz pickup? Have you seen a willingness in terms of the physical side of the game?

“Yeah, Kendall’s a little bit ahead of LaMichael. But LaMichael’s gotten a lot better, really in the past three days. Kendall, that’s another area he’s really matured, understanding protections. Defenses nowadays are so complicated, so complex. There’s a bunch of guys moving around. It’s not like the old days where they’d line up three guys or four guys and then one or two guys might blitz. It’s hard to even tell the structure of the defense sometimes with guys milling around. You might have two defensive linemen lined up at linebacker and two linebackers standing out on the edges. So, there’s a lot of different components for the running backs to identify week-to-week. So, knowing who to block is very important in this league even before how to block. He’s gotten much better in both though.”

What do you remember  from last year’s preseason opener?

[Laughing] “You had to bring that up didn’t you? I remember walking out of the locker room and talking to [T] Joe Staley. I felt pretty good about how the guys handled the situation, didn’t see anybody panic, didn’t see anybody start to withdraw from the situation. Everybody just dealt with it. So, felt good about that. But the execution was obviously not where we needed it. I vividly remember though walking out of the locker room talking to Joe.”

What was Joe saying that gave you that confidence?

“No, he didn’t say very much, just how they handled themselves during the game. Nobody panicked. It was definitely not our brightest moment, and we certainly hope to perform better this week.”

With a full off season under their belts .. we won’t have to worry about this years pre season opener …
    I predict it’ll be a … l-o-n-g .. l-o-n-g plane ride home for the Vikings !

  2. zito the man says:

As a young Qb coming out of college, Ck has alot air on his head. If this guy don’t control his arrogancy, his not going anywhere. Never heard this guy be humble and let his action just speak for itself. Why can you just be like Joe Montana soft spoken ans very humble, without being arrogant..Learn from HOF.

    • Busterman says:

Collin Kaepernick probably hasen’t adjusted to the NFL yet, how to keep his mouth shut and let his action speaks for itself.

    • Tim says:

When has CK ever showed arrogancy? From what I can tell, he’s the complete oppisite of that…

    • 55Niner says:

C’mon Zito, would you appreciate Kaepernick a little more if he were to say “I’m completely satisfied being a second string quarterback in this league…hell, there’s alot of guys that would love to be in my shoes”…the kid is looking to the future, he may not be here after his rookie contract is up, so the mindset he displays is important for his career…

      • AES says:

        Great response 55 Niner.

Very good football foresight. If by chance CK moves on to another team, do you think his new team will be happy to hear that he has no aspirations about being a Starter?

CK is a competitive football player (I was fortunate to watch him play at Pittman High in Turlock), and he will do what it takes to improve his skills to get to the next level. If CK beleives he can win a starting position on this team, I have no problem with that.

It may not happen this season because AS is established as the Starter. But if AS faulters or get’s injured, CK could prove his mettle (or not). But at least we’ll have a better perspective of what he can do.

      • MidWestNiner says:

        Great posts 55 and AES.

      • DS94everXev says:

        AES

        “if AS falters..”

So, you’re all in if AS falters and are open to replacing him.

But if MC falters, you aren’t open to WR x to replace him because he was the leading WR.

FYI AS was the leading passer.

The more you look at your posts AES, the less “All in” you are. Why not convert to “In JH I trust”? That way you support the TEAM and the coach responsible for getting us here. And you don’t call fans haters who don’t agree with you.

        You interested?

      • 55Niner says:

        @AES..
Thanks for the props….I would much rather have a guy on the team that has confidence in himself and his abilities, than someone that is willing and happy to just take a roster spot. You can’t play QB in the NFL, or High School for that matter, without a high level of confidence….CK is showing a high level of confidence, and not arrogance as Zito claims…

    • BigP says:

Zito the man and Busterman are the same dude.

  3. Hightop says:

Toby Gerhart should just stay here after the game.

  4. Rusty_in_OC says:

    Hey Grant,
I just posted a note with a link to a pretty cool video of last year’s season. Why would that not show up here? Did I break an unwritten rule of blogdom? I’m sure it wouldn’t be because the vid had some pretty positive things to say about one Alex Smith…so wassup?

  5. MidWestNiner says:

I’m looking forward to seeing how CK and KH have developed in their play on the field and GR at his play-calling.

    • Nick Row says:

      @MWN
We wont know about GR’s play calling until the regular season. I doubt they’ll show anything during the preseason other than vanilla offense.

    • MidWestNiner says:

Sorry Nick. I meant overall. I have a feeling CK will get a lot of time in the pocket during the third preseason game.

  6. MidWestNiner says:

Off topic Grant, but was Him Harbaugh absent from TC today to attend the Reid funeral?

  7. Ninermd says:

Why would we get rid of CK……I thought sitting and learning was the “best” way to groom a QB? Some dont look great in practice. Some look great. “AS” for years! CK JJ or ST could be a game player. If Smith go’s down. Nobody knows. This Friday should tell us a little. Its the first time in a looong time Im excited to see a pre season game. I want to especially see JJ and ST in action. And Moss

  8. Nick Row says:

Going by GR’s response when asked about LaMichael James, it sounds like LMJ won’t see much playing time this year. Hunter seems to be way ahead of LMJ, but I expect that to change as the season progresses.

    • msclemons67 says:

I could see LMJ getting about the same workload that Hunter had last year; 5-8 touches per game. Hunter likely bumping up to 15 touches and Gore dropping to 20.

It sounds like Hunter has done a good job working on blitz pick-ups which means we might see him on more passing plays. I hope so; I’d love to see him in space.

      • Prime Time says:

Do you think special teams play will a factor into it? Both guys have a history of returning kicks so would it factor in to touches for each particular guy. I could see Hunter getting more looks on offense if LMJ is used more on special teams which I hope the Niners do. Put both Ginn and James back there and force teams to kick it out of bounds or pick your poison with either guy.
Let’s be honest, our defense is our golden ticket followed by special teams and our ever evolving offense.

      • msclemons67 says:

I wasn’t thinking about special teams plays. Ginn and LMJ as the deep men on kickoffs would be something else.

      • Nick Row says:

Another player who’s really good as a kick returner is WR Chris Owusu. If he makes the team, that’s where the big chunk of his playing time could come.

      • MidWestNiner says:

I don’t think he’ll make the final cut unless Ginn gets released or injured. I’m not wishing for either scenario, but unfortunately that is the only way I can see Owusu making it to the final roster.

  9. Steve says:

Yea that first pre-season game last year what a debacle but the revenge in the playoffs was sooo sweet. Anybody agree?

  10. Razoreater says:

I thought Mr. Roman would have numerous new creative plays drawn up for Green Zone cash ins on napkins from the NFL Draft carry out orders.

  11. Jack Hammer says:

Michael Crabtree spoke to reporters for the first time since Jan. 23. Said he wasn’t frustrated by having training camp “cut short” again. “How short was it cut this year?” he said. “A week? I’m sure a lot of guys go through that, right? Does everybody go every day of camp? I’m here, man. I ain’t missing a beat. I’m here. I don’t really think about it as (frustrating). I think about it as football. And whenever I can go, I’m going.” Crabtree went through everything but the two-minute drill today.

    • Nick Row says:

      Jack,
Are you trying to rile up the Crabtree hater crowd? Those drama queens aren’t very smart, so they’ll probably take the bite.

      • claude balls says:

Take the bait. The expression you are looking for is “take the bait.”

The irony has to make you smile, doesn’t it?

      • Nick Row says:

        Smart phone auto correct :)

      • Prime Time says:

I told you Nicky you were the dumbest guy on the blog, not only do you not know how to proof read and spell check, you blame the phone, duhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

      • MidWestNiner says:

Hey Prime, as one of the people who has a smartphone that auto corrects what I post constantly, I can absolutely see where NickRow is coming from on that regard. For example, my smartphone changes Jim Harbaugh to Him Harbaugh. It’s really frustrating.

      • Prime Time says:

I know midwest, I just like busting that haters chops, but seriously, the kid is not very bright!

    • Latino Heat says:

MC says: I’m sure a lot of guys go through that, right? Does everybody go every day of camp?
Yes Michael, real professionals go through entire training camps. Its your job you lazy taco……. He should ask Justin Smith about wether or not it is important to go through training camp each year and what working hard means.

      MC says: I’m here, man. I ain’t missing a beat. I’m here.
yeah your there for the last hour of practice on the sidelines in sweats and a t-shirt stretching your bandaid body. This guy has bust and china doll written all over him……..

      • MidWestNiner says:

Thanks for the link Jack. Seems like Crabtree went to the Harbaugh School of Thought.

      • Adam707 says:

“This guy has bust and china doll written all over him……..”
This is a clueless statement. This has me laughing quite hard. Thank you Latino

      • Latino Heat says:

has he done anything to live up to a #1 elite wideout in 3 years=BUST

        3 missed training camps=china doll

I dont find it funny whatsoever………

      • MidWestNiner says:

Having a new offense to learn each season and hardly anyone except Davis to help take the coverage off him plays a part in that. I believe he will prove himself this season Latino.

      • AES says:

You continue to deride MC which your right. But are you hopeing that someone in the FO happens upon your posts? Except for the usual suspects here that don’t like MC, all your bashing falls on deaf ears, or in this case, a few disinterested bloggers.

When the FO and Harbaugh tire of MC let me know, because as of now he is our Starter! (lol)

      • Prime Time says:

Midwest when a WR learns a new offense, really it’s only the terminology that changes. I mean how much different is a 49ers WC slant, hitch, go, comeback, out, in route different than the passing tree of let’s say of the Patriots?
Of all the positions on offense WR is the easiest to learn based on routes. I don’t see much difference from offense to offense other than language, passer and timing. All things QB and WR work on extensively on during OTA’s and TC.

      • Adam707 says:

Alex smith didn’t have a good season until year 7, I dont consider him a bust. He missed nearly 2 full seasons with shoulder problems. I dont consider that a china doll. Its the NFL, Injuries happen, its a blessing for them to occur during camp as opposed to mid season. You shouldn’t use the term “bust” so loosily. a #10 overall who has improved every year, 16th among WR’s in receptions and 28th in yards last year with the 31st passing attack shouldn’e be labelled a “bust” by any means

      • MidWestNiner says:

Learning that terminology isn’t easy Prime. It can take away from Crabtree’s time to work on perfecting his craft. He now has that chance to do so.

      • Prime Time says:

Learning and memorizing football terminology should not be hard for any college graduate. That’s done before and after practice, and position coaches go over that in their meetings. Really Midwest, it’s probably the easiest part of the job. Especially for professional athletes at this level.

      • MidWestNiner says:

It’s easy when it’s on a constant cycle of one new offense after another? From one season to another? It doesn’t matter how easy the terminology is to learn. The problem is that he has had to reprogram what each play-call is and how it works. It would be like learning the same type of math in three different ways. Right after you learn it, you then have to go back and learn it in a completely different style.

      • Nick Row says:

It sounds like the excuses are exclusive to Alex Smith.

      • MidWestNiner says:

In my personal opinion, the same reasons Crabtree has struggled apply to Smith as well. For almost a decade, the FO and the owner weren’t interested in developing a juggernaut offense. They drafted a QB, but didn’t give him hardly any receiving options or pass protection. They finally draft a top WR, but other than the TE, he really doesn’t have help to take the bullseye off his back. And then the offense is kept in a constant flux to where these two can’t work on their craft or gain any type of confidence on their ability. Then finally, at long last a ray of light coming from a man who understands offense and has the right FO on order to get these guys some help. After being treated badly by the organization, they finally have a chance to show that they are capable of leading this supporting cast in an offensive scheme that has managed to stay exactly the same in its second season. And they will. It will be a great season for these two, something that has been a long time coming.

      • exgolfer says:

        Latino,

While it’s true that MC hasn’t fulfilled the promise he carried with him from Texas Tech, but he’s far from a bust. Let’s wait to see what he can do in his second year the system. I’m expecting a breakout.

As far as the “China Doll” knickname goes, don’t forget that Smith has missed two years with shoulder injuries (he’s been the starting QB for a little less than five years, not seven as so many on this blog misstate). Football is a gruelling sport, and injuries are a part of the game.

    • MidWestNiner says:

Just let your play this season do the talking Crabtree. I feel a Pro Bowl worthy season in store for you.

      • Latino Heat says:

      • MidWestNiner says:

My post on Crabtree wasn’t directed towards you Latino. It was just me saying how I felt about Crabtree’s interview.

      • Latino Heat says:

    @LH
Those guys to my knowledge are no longer in the league. But to compare MC with Rashaun Woods is absolutely absurd. Not even close LH, you have to do much better then that if you want to preserve any modicum of credibility (lol). C’mon Assay, even I have to believe your better then this.

You just said that you don’t hate MC then you compare him to R.Woods? Muchacho, I sure can’t think of a more profound way to say “I hate you” (lol).

    • DS94everXev says:

      AES

Woods was a bust. He did nothing though to make me hate him.
Stop using that word. You don’t understand its intended use. You use everytime a person doesn’t agree with you. Not cool.

Maybe you can say Woods had no NFL career and MC has. But you are WAY out of line saying a Woods to MC comparison is “hate”.

Stop starting fights. Latino can make a bad comparison and not hate MC. Since you’ve been on this “All in” mision of yours (you already failed after agreeing to a post saying AS is garbage) you use words that don’t help anybody want to be “in” with you.

      • Prime Time says:

DS says to AES “You use everytime a person doesn’t agree with you. Not cool”

AES, time for a vacation bro!

      • AES says:

        Not starting a fight.
LH’ assertion does not warrant one. But DS, for someone who has compared AS to Joe Montana you are the last person who should be instructing anyone on the vitures of football comparisions (lol).

        But since you like to be the blog crasher, I’ll ask you this;
        Is MC a bust?

      • DS94everXev says:

        AES

Did I call anybody a hater because they didn’t agree with my comparison? By the way, Adam compared AS 2011 to JM 1981 before last year ended. Just like I did. But you forget that, and when I did, you cried like a baby.

Face it. The “hater” term as you use it can apply to 2 people having different fav colors. You can say the comparison is bad without using the word “hate”. I did it for you in my last post. Why can’t you?

      • AES says:

Ironic isn’t it DS. That last year you took credit for coining the ‘hate’ word on this blog (lol). Suddenly, you try to separate yourself from your own folly.

I know exactly how the word hate fits in a sports context. It doesn’t carry the same impplications as in the personal and social level of life.

But your hatred of MC in my opinion transends any context of sports.
Your venemous comments of MC has been your own undoing DS. I dare you to convince me that your definition of MC hatred is confined to the football field…

      • DS94everXev says:

        AES

What are you? 9 years old? “I dare you..” Give me a break.

I’ve never called MC names like Alice for Alex. I kept my word and gave him last year. YOU are the one going back and forth. “All in” then agree with AS is garbage. Please.

I wanted Wallace, and made up a dream scenario to get the best in the game right now, LF. When those didn’t happen I said TC will determine all. And “In JH I trust”. Pretty reasonable to EVERYBODY.

You have a problem with that. You are the one saying “hate” in respose to every single persons reply to you who didn’t agree with you. Have you even noticed that?

You make stupid comments about me hoping MC is injured and unable to play. You didn’t say that in love of the team/MC, but out of hate.

I said that he will have to earn his job, and you come crying foul. Gee,. Didn’t know MC is given vet courtesy from fans where he does not have to earn his role. Everybody else on the team does.

Look at all the posts, and you are the one saying/implying hate pretty much every time. I haven’t. I’m saying TC determines all, and I trust JH. Because of that, you call me a hater. That is hate from you. Not from me.

      • Ninermd says:

This kid is going to be a darn good LB and I think Grant still owes some people a few nickels.

  15. oldcoach says:

its odd how if you post anything but glowing remarks regarding crabtree you are labled as a hater. it seems pretty clear he has a difficult time staying healthy. i believe he has a good attitude and work ethic and is also a good teamate but i think the slang term china doll or the one i use crystal are both pretty accurate in describing a body that is not nfl built.

    • DS94everXev says:

      oldcoach

The term is being flung around WAY too much. Some are using it to describe those who disagree with them. Not cool. There are a lot of better words theycan use, but knowingly don’t.

    • AES says:

      oldcoach

I’m not sure if you’re making referrence to me, but I certainly don’t have issues with any stating their opinions here.

I do have issues when MC’ stats as our leading WR are being devalued as ‘meaningless.’

Ask the MC detracters how they reacted when the teams 13-3 record was being credited to the defense and special teams. They went into a 24/7 posting frenzy.

But somehow it’s vogue to bash our leading WR among this group.
Oldcoach, I respect your point of view and position on this, but I respect my team and leading WR to let it go unchecked.
I make no apologies for that.

      • DS94everXev says:

        AES

You can defend your view without saying those who have different views are haters/not fans. Your need to have everybody “All in” immediately, or you’re against us/me(AES) deal is very funny coming from you. Maybe some people want to see more from the #10 overall pick before announcing him the best WR. You of all people should be cool with that.

FYI I’ve managed to disagree many times without saying those things.

Not from me.”

(lol) DS, are your sure that you want to go record as saying that my comp sucks, because that fact that you have failed to back up any of your accusations are a clear signal that you just aren’t ‘getting it’ (lol).

So now your latest unfounded accusation is that I mentioned that you wanted MC injured.
OK, let’s try this one more time; DS, show me where I said this? Do you understand the question?

Seems like you’ve been doing more back-peddling lately, perhaps you have a future as a DB.

OBTW, did you read Grant’ latest TC report?
Crabtree was the best WR in practice. This after missing one week of practice. Looks like your Crabtree not being the starter rants have blown-up in your face (lol)!
But then again, having your opinions and views blow-up in your face should be something that you have become very accustomed too.

Oh, I’ll be waiting for you to show proof of your accusations.

“Thanks for the props….I would much rather have a guy on the team that has confidence in himself and his abilities, than someone that is willing and happy to just take a roster spot. You can’t play QB in the NFL, or High School for that matter, without a high level of confidence….CK is showing a high level of confidence, and not arrogance as Zito claims…”

No probs 55 Niner. Totally agree.
The mark of an athlete is a fierce competitive nature.
Athlete’s without this virtue don’t last very long.

Hey 55 Niner, is that former LB Matt Halzeltine in your avatar insert?
He was one of my favorites. He, along with Dave Wilcox were dynamic in their day. Nice pic!

So, you’re all in if AS falters and are open to replacing him.”

    @DS
Stop being a moron DS. Did I say that I wanted AS to faulter?
Did I say I wanted him to get injured? And you complain that I have issues comprehending (lol).

Read my comments again, and read very slowly.
But by chance that AS or any of our Starters falter or get injured, you best believe i’m still “ALL IN!”
I follow the 49er brand, bud. Always have, always will.

    • exgolfer says:

      AES,

I’m with you on that. IF AS falters, then he should be replaced. That’s the way of the NFL, at least for winning teams. Bill Walsh was known for ruthlessly replacing players who weren’t cutting it, regardless of emotional attachment.

I don’t believe Smith will falter (in fact, I think he’s going to continue to improve under JH and staff), but if so, it’s the next man up.

      • AES* says:

I doubt that as well ExGolfer. My comment was a back-handed reply to the great DS (lol).

He tried to corner me on whether I would be ‘all in’ if we lose any starters. As always, his ploy was foiled again. But I digress (lol).

Truth is that I am still ‘all in’ with whomever we Start come opening game. I’ve never been ‘out’ as a fan. I have certainly had my moments of frustration with the poor teams. Made some knee-jerk remarks, but have never turned against the Red and Gold.

        1. I called the post stupid. Not you.
        2. You claiming that I want MC hurt is stupid. Nothing I said was remotely near saying anything about wanting MC to be injured

Those are 2 ENORMOUS differences. You thinking that gives you the ok to call me “moron” as = what I said proves once and for all that you never knew, cared for the issue of MC. You were just looking for a fight.

I suspect Mr All in to leave that thinking once a player has a few bad game in a row.

    • Prime Time says:

We’re you all in during the D. Ericsson days, how about Donahue, Nolan era?
I was but it was hard showing my 49er gear in public. Nowadays different story. People are actaully giving me the thumbs up whenever I wear my Niners hat!
Fact is last year was the most enjoyable year ever seeing the remarkable turn around. Right now I could care less who starts, how we play, where we play or who we play. It’s all about wins, division titles, and opportunities at superbowls. To me that’s all I care about!

      • ribico says:

I’ve been all in since the Niners were known as “Manilla Folders” (bonus points for those who know what that refers to!)

      • AES* says:

Absolutely Prime. I loved my team through the ‘dark ages’ of the last 3 regimes. It hurt like a ‘mug’ to see my once proud and glorious team torn and broken the way it was.

But they were still my team! Were they bad? Heck yeah. But I always held out hope that our once proud franchise would rise again.
        And they have!

“ALL IN!” Prime, with every player and the 49er brand!

      • Prime Time says:

I’m gonna give you a hell ya! Harbaugh, Baalke making good decisions and restoring the 49er way in a new way.
10-6 this year, after that I have no clue!

    • Nick Row says:

I think most folks on this blog are hardcore 49er fans. A fair weather fan is not going to spend time on a blog during TC. Given that, it’s a stupid question to ask if somebody was ‘ALL IN’ during the D. Erickson, Nolan, or MS eras.

    @DS
No not everybody DS, but in your case I stand by my premise: You hate Michael Crabtree!

You have proven with all your venemous comments that you do not merely hate MC the player, you hate MC the man.
Once again, I care little that you hate MC or deride Nate Palmers nickname: “Napalm”
But to call his seasonal leading stats ‘meaningless’ is a combination of hate and stupidity!

Your extreme love for AS is the dichodomy of your hate for MC.

Sorry to hear that DS. Respect is very important on any social level.

But I won’t recant my comments regarding your clear and obvious hatred of MC. No one spends a whole week on the blog nit-picking and shoveling dirt on someone they like. Read your comments DS from an outsiders perspective and you may have to agree with me.
        It is what it is…

      • DS94everXev says:

Doubts don’t = hate. Have you ever doubted a person, but didn’t hate him? Your view of everything is black and white. Hate means I want him dead or badly injured. Something I clearly stated I’ve never felt for MC.

And you could have made all your points without using the words I asked you to stop using. You did it to get some cred with the wrong crowd to feel “cool”. If respect mattered to you like you claim, you stop it. You didn’t.

When sombody asks you to not use that word, and you just ignore it and repeatedly use it..that is hate. You’ve been doing what you claim I was doing.

I think that you’ve been here long enough to know that I don’t come on here to garner any ‘cred’ as you say. I could care less what people on this blog think of me.

When I comment on something my intention is not to ‘grandstand’ and win over the masses. This is a football blog, not life!

I’m here to offer my opinion and views and I know that given the fact that this blog is open to public consumption, not everyone will agree with them.

I’m definitely not the final say in calling you an MC hater. It’s just my opinion, it shouldn’t be taken as serious as you seem to have taken it.

    • DS94everXev says:

      AES

You don’t get it. You never answered ANY questions I had. And you saying “BINGO” to a post that says AS is garbage is you agreing with it completely. How you dismiss that and qustion my reading comp while never thinking “Hmmm…that was confusing. Let me rephrase that” is proof you are not “All in” If you were, you immediately describe in detail what you meant. You don’t ignore it every time.

BINGO is a term used to win. A perfect post in this case. You said it. You agreed to it.

Given your wishy-washy AS history, you don’t have a great deal of AS backing to support the idea that BINGO wasn’t in fact BINGO. I remember many posts from you the last season where you were far less “All in” than I was. I supported MC all season long. You varied your AS support weekly.

So how you think you are “All in” while I am not is a lying joke. You determining the exact momemt a fan has to be “All in” or isn’t a fan or suports the team is a joke.

The discussion never had to waver from the point: Is MC a worthy starting WR (average isn’t worth, it is servacible) and what are the odds he is our starter?

Questioning fandom/hate did not go hand in hand with it. It only happened because you brought it in.

I won’t be discussing MC with you again. I gave you a last chance after the last go-around, and you failed to keep it cool.

      • AES says:

        @DS
You have yet to show me the post you are referring too. I forgot it entirely since I’ve used the term Bingo on more than a few occassions.

But for someone who said I was looking for ‘cred’ what do you think you are doing with this lastest accusation?

Over the last few days you have claimed that I have said quite a few comment of which not one has been quantified.

You are on a personal crusade to undermine every comment I make, even when my convo does not involve you. Put down all your personal vendettas and let’s enjoy what promises to be a great season.
