SAN FRANCISCO – Delanie Walker left practice early with a right knee injury. He got tangled with Ian Williams when he was blocking and he fell to the ground in pain.
He stayed on the ground for a couple minutes, and then he stood up and took several more minutes before he slowly walked off the field. He watched most of practice sitting on the bench, and the right knee was heavily braced.
Aldon Smith did not attend practice today. Jim Harbaugh said that he expects Smith to miss “about a week.”
Harbaugh said that the 49ers “dodged a bullet” with Aldon Smith’s injury, and he said he feels the team probably dodged another one with Walker’s knee. He doesn’t expect the tight end to miss a lot of time.

Get lucky w injuries & the Niners are a team nobody will want to face this year.
Who took Walker’s place when he went down?
Reuland and Dobbs.
i think reuland has a bigger long term upside than walker
At the moment, Reuland has the challenge of beating Nate Byham and Dobbs for the 3rd TE spot on the roster. But Byham is coming off an ACL injury, is not as good a receiver as Reuland, but he is a better blocker. Byham’s chances of making the team are small IMO. So if Rueland makes the team, his long term prospects are good and – I agree with you – he has very good upside.
The 49ers signed two Tight Ends today, Gijon Robinson (Missouri Western) and Joe Sawyer (Southwestern Oklahoma). Is this a bad sign for Walker’s injury?
I’m hoping Harbaugh was accurate when he says “we dodged another bullet”, with Robinson and Sawyer acting mainly as “training camp bodies” for TE formations.
Are we sure that the shirtless fan who ran out onto the field yesterday wasn’t md running out to remind Alex not to make him wear a Bears jersey?
