The 49ers players voted for their captains today. They are:
- Patrick Willis
- Frank Gore
- Justin Smith
- Alex Smith
Last season, Gore and Willis were the only captains.
Vernon Davis was a captain in 2009 and 2010 under Mike Singletary, but Davis has not been one under Jim Harbaugh.

The players vote for the captains. You’re making it out as if Harbaugh did not select Vernon with that last sentence. Here’s what Coach Harbaugh had to say,
“Congratulations to those men,” Harbaugh said. “There’s no greater honor than being voted captain by your teammates.”
So
If the players don’t think AS did what I think, why did they vote him to be a captain? If anybody can manage games, you don’t vote anybody to be captain.
Some here need to think about the answer more than I do.
The players voted Smith to be captain because they support him, they like him. We all like the person. They believe in him and they are confident in his ability. It does then no good to say they don’t believe in him. Hell, even Crabtree didn’t say that. It has nothing to do with him being a game manager. Everyone knows that last year, that’s exactly what he was except for the Saint game. He balled late in that game. Other than that, he was a game manager. Let’s see if we get something different this year.
You want something different than a QB who steps up every time he is asked to?

You say VD hasn’t been one under JH, but JH has only been here 1 year. Should really consider deleting that point.

Maybe you haven’t been paying close attention, but this whole replacement ref situation has been an embarrassing disaster.
…I don’t dispute that…..just would like to point out even with the experienced Refs, there is a blown or embarrassing call every week during the season…..
They should of gave David Akers the spot over AS, as he is the best offensive player on the team.
