Dear Jim Schwartz,
You want to call a running play against the 49ers, but it doesn’t exist.
Il n’existe pas.
Justin Smith will stop it while thinking of other things.
Take your running plays and throw them away. They’ll only help you lose on Sunday.
You have to pass against the 49ers. Remember how Bill Walsh used to set up the run with the pass? You have to set up the pass with the pass, and then pass some more.
The Packers tried to run on the Niners 9 times. 9 times. That may seem like a small number to you, but it was 9 too many. Green Bay wasted 20 percent of their offensive plays handing the ball to Cedric Benson. Every time they did, it seemed like they killed their own drive: “Here comes Benson, and here comes second and 9.” He finished with 18 rushing yards.
You’ve got to spread the Niners out and throw quick passes for short gains. That’s your best chance to move the ball.
Force the Niners into their dime defense – the one where they take out Patrick Willis or NaVorro Bowman for No.4 cornerback Perrish Cox – and then go after Cox.
That worked for the Packers when they tried it. Aaron Rodgers threw to Randall Cobb, their No.4 wide receiver, 9 times and Cobb caught all 9. The Niners couldn’t stop him. He should have been targeted 9 more times. They still didn’t win. I don’t think you’re going to win either.
You don’t have a No. 4 wide receiver as good as Cobb, so you’re going to have to figure something out. I can’t figure out everything for you.
Whatever you do, don’t run.

Those votes of negative against those that rip you on that other blog?..those are mine.
I think Jim wants a good spanking of Detroit. The trick play will runneth over the Lions. This might be the stone coldiest pick of the week. What was that movie title? “There will be blood”..something like that this weekend.
From Grant:
oooohhh thank you Stan. I appreciate your support sooo much!!! Lets get together and hang out so I can teach you how to write a coherent message!
Sounds cool.
A clever comeback? Beating the hell out of you was the very meaning of the phrase. I laugh-ha- at the very idea!
Besides, anybody who decides that on a football blog that they are more interested in grammar structure then football doesn’t deserve much respect grandma.
And then Grant and I will invite vegoose and proceed to beat the hell out of him for that attitude he has…
Classic anonymous tough guy. It’s not an attitude, I was just poking fun at you. Relax. You have to admit your comment was irrelevant and self serving. Although, it makes sense that someone who has trouble writing sentences would resort to violence instead of coming up with a clever come back.
Okay, this made me laugh.
Well played.
You should add this Grant:
P.S.
Passing constantly in no way guarantees that you will win, as the Green Bay Packers can attest to. You just have to pray that it does.
Wow……..same guy?
Grant, this actually made me laugh out loud – not easy to do with aching knees and a certain short position which is a bit underwater.
using French to talk to that neanderthal Schwartz is a bit of genius…because its not clear he’s even fluent in his own language
That’s a classic line. You just made me laugh out loud, too. Thanks.
regardless of what the lions run if they turn the ball over they will lose and when stafford gets pressured he turns it over
Yup Grant your 100 percent correct on this. The Niners will see a heck of a lot of passes this year. This game is the season for me, if we lose I will be disgraced beyond recognition. I just cant see me wearing Suh s number.
If you do, wear something over it. That way you’re still “wearing” the jersey, but there was no stipulation of wearing something on top of it.
I would have ranked Houston #1 and San Fran #2 ……
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/powerrankings
Had the Niners were previously ranked 11? In what crazy world?
The east coast media world where they are still in awe of Sanchez’s performance against a horrible Bills secondary.
Of course you would rank the Niners second cause your not a 49er fan, just a Niner critical a hole. We just beat possibly the best team in the NFL in a place not too many teams win in, HOU plays the worst team in the NFL and you have them ranked ahead of SF! Your a joke!
Good grief. Lay off Prime. I don’t agree with Bay listing the Niners as #2, but at the same time I can why he considers Houston as #1. His view is legit, and it doesn’t mean he isn’t a Niners fan.
Midwest, what’s your deal? That’s the second time in two days you have asked me to back off? Just so you know, I can and will say anything I want to anyone. You have a problem with that? Bay is a hater, I have problems with every single one of them. It’s my business, not yours. You wanna talk football with me, fine, otherwise don’t dictate what I say and who I say it to okay!
They have the 9ers ranked 4th with N.E. ranked #1. He is just stating the 9ers should be up 2 and Texan up 1 from #2.
Fine Prime, but don’t blast Bay in who he thinks is the stronger team. Just because you’re a fan of a team doesn’t mean you have to always think it’s the team to beat. Just look at fans of the Raiders, Jets, Browns, and Cowboys. That doesn’t make you any less of a fan. To think otherwise is just ignorant.
Fair enough Midwest, but dont play blog cop with me, your in for a long and difficult project.
As for Bay, this kid gets everything he deserves from me, we have history.
Be the bigger man then Prime. Don’t try to instigate anything. It just makes you look bad in the long run. Just back up whatever you post with facts. I’m not telling you what to do, just suggesting.
That time of the month Prime?
Houston’s defense is really close to the 49ers. Their offense is far better. I’d rank them ahead of the 49ers at this point too.
The Pats at #1 annoys me though. I don’t trust their D yet.
I see your point MW, but facts are ignored by the haters, they term them “excuses”. Tell me what hater you can have a meaningful convo with on here? MD was one but he he is straight up now, calls it like it is and I respect that SOB now big time!
Regardless, I instigate and irratate only a select few on here, only because of the history I have with them. I can talk football and prefer to but when people are consistently trashing, I trash back, this is who Prime Time is!
Guys, do rankings really matter at any point in the season. its better we fly under the radar, the players dont get over confident and we just take care of business on the field.
@ Prime, I know your trying to fight the good fight, but its a waste of time. They are certain “real fans” only on here to troll.
Thanks MW,
as for Prime, we all know you are a severe low life. I was going to come up with a very creative slam on you, only realizing that you are worse the the nastiest comments I can come up with.
You are not worth the sperm that was used to create you during the conjugal visit your mom had while visiting daddy primate…….
Just a little retaliation for calling me an a-hole… Have a nice day : )
Prime says, “that is who Prime time is”. Jesus, I love it when a person talks about themselves in third person. Now “that” is an indication of low class or crazy. In his case, both……
That was a weak retaliation Bay!
Just wanted to ask you if you thought Hatbaugh was going to be game planning against the boo birds this Sunday when coming up with plays for Alex and Moss?
Rodgers maybe the best QB but Green Bay is not the best team in football, last time I checked they have lost their last two home games.
Who In the hell is Pete prisco? What a joke
Niners smoked Packers, the #1 lst week. Houston smoked MIA, an awful football team. In no way does that give them an edge.
ESPN has Patriots #1, Niners #2.
I agree w/Msc – wtf did the Patriots do to deserve #1 besides beat a crappy team? Niners punished the projected SB winning team – Buffalo isn’t even expected to make the playoffs this year. Best defense in the NFL (yes, better than Houston), and a solid offense – but most importantly the Niners have the most cut throat, always prepared, will out smart your a$$-off freakin’ coaching staff – that always gives us an edge over any other team.
At least Sando’s got it right!
http://espn.go.com/nfl/powerrankings
That is funny!!! Hope we can be number 1 at the end of all this and when it counts but it is a fun ride!!!!
9erGirl/Rockstar – Kick that EagleGirls butt for ranking us #2. :-)
No need Crabs – she’s clearly not that intelligent if she thinks the Eagles deserved to be ranked ahead of the Niners. The season will be disappointing enough for her without have a whoppin’ from an overzealous Niner fan on top of it ;-)
They barely beat one of the worst teams in football and could have easily lost that game (I only have the Browns ranked ahead of Miami…). So far not that impressed with Philly and am not worried. IMO, Dallas and NYG are both better teams – Eagles may not even make the playoffs.
Whoops – got my games mixed up (the Jets, not NE are getting faaaarrrrr too much praise for beating Buffalo). But – Tennessee isn’t expected to make the playoffs either and they still qualify as a crappy team….
Houston is a sh*thole of a city. It will never ran #1 in anything but roaches…
Houston – Why aren’t the Texans defense front 7 as good as last year?
Mario Williams sucked on Sunday in Buffalo.
Well I watch the Texans fairly closely and of course I never miss a 9er game. I can say unequivocally that the 9ers are a better team. The Texans offense is much better than the 9ers but the 9ers defense is much better than the Texans. The Texans do have a good defense but their front 7 aren’t as good as they were last year so a team can run on them. The Texans are a great run team but no one can run on the 9ers. If you shut down the running game then the passing game won’t be as effective.
The Falcons above the 49ers?!? That would be a matchup I would like to see in January.
No Nate Clements to cough up the ball, so it should go better for the Niners.
Did you see the Bengals game last night MWN? Clements had a horrible play in the endzone and all I could think was “thank goodness he’s gone”.
Didn’t have a chance to Msclemon, but I saw the highlights this morning. What popped into my head at that moment was an old country song titled
‘Thank God and Greyhound You’re Gone’.
Taylor Mays got beat for a TD also.
YES!!! I mean, poor little guy. LOL
under – I thought Taylor Mays was the real deal when we drafted him. I was wrong…..or maybe Singletary ruined him somehow? I take that back, it was Singletary. :-)
Speaking of the departed, Manny Lawson got isolated in coverage and beat for a big 1st down too. Later Mays got benched.
Crab – lol I thought so too, glad we got rid of him and even got a 7th for him. Our judgements couldnt of been that bad so your right it was Sing.
Manny hasn’t been the same since his Achilles injury. Remember his rookie season when he shut out all the best tight ends in the league?
i think the ranking should be 1A and 1B teams coached by someone named J. Harbaugh
+1
The three best teams at the moment are the Niners, Ravens, Texans. Listing the Falcons above the Niners and Ravens is just wrong. I have no idea who is better between those three. Would be a great Super Bowl with any of them in it – at the moment. What do all three have in common, they all play defense.
Gotta agree under. The Falcons’ D isn’t good enough for them to be ahead of the 49ers, Texans or Ravens. And they just lost their best corner for the year to boot.
M67 – Thats what I was wondering if the Falcons defense was any good. If not they dont belong in the top five.
I’m pretty sure the Forty Niners would be able to beat any playoff opponent they face in order to obtain their Sixth Super Bowl.
You have to at least try to establish the run in every game Grant. Conceding to do so before the game even begins is not how you win a football game no matter who you are playing against.
If the 49ers rout two teams this year-it will be Detroit and Seattle-twice. Don’t get on the H-man’s bad side if your a coach. He’s still the slap you on the back, get the hell out of my way poor winner-lol…
Stan, playing SEA is one of the most difficult places to play in the entire NFL. They are a different team up there. I cannot see a route happening against them there or at home.
The NFC West gets no respect but whenever those teams play one another, its always a dog fight.
FDM – Spot on. The 12th MAN is for real.
I was thrilled to see that rodent Pete Carrol go 0-1.
Yeah, but Lambeau? : >) just sayin’!
Miaocco just did a break down of the 49er defensive players sunday. interestingly he was’nt critical of perrish cox
I found comments related to the Niners after they took Green Bay down. Believe it or not, there’s one dunderhead in the lot.
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ap-pro32-comments-49ers-201011145–nfl.html
I think I’m missing something – those comments were all very high in praise of the 49ers. Which one was the dunderhead?
It’s this one.
Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 2) – The defense hasn’t changed, and Alex Smith should be better. Draw your own conclusions. I’ve drawn mine, and based on one week nobody in the NFC is better.
Clem/MidWest – did you notice the 2 comments at bottom? Check the first name. Lol
Am I missing something? Seems like a compliment – I think when he says “Alex Smith should be better” he means it in the future tense as in “Alex will be better than last year and the defense is still great” I interpreted that he’s saying the Niners are the best team in the NFC.
I might be reading it wrong, but it seems to me that he thinks the whole team should have been better and that because Green Bay lost there is no strong team in the NFC. Again, I could be wrong.
Either way he’s not that great of a writer or his message would have been clearer so “Dunderhead” still fits :-)
That wasn’t worded well but Judge has been favorable on Smith so I’m betting he meant Alex will continue to improve.
@Crab haha – didn’t he get banned here?
@ Grant:
Nice. Any chance we can see your letter to Jim Schwartz pertaining to The Handshake?
Yes, Grant – please start it out with “Dear Mr. Schwartz – I tripple dog dare you…..” lol!
Going to be a great game. Too bad we have to wait until the evening, but it will be intersting to see how the announcers are going to slant the coaching staffs and the quarterbacks. Should be a good game, I sure hope we stay away from rushing three players that OLE’Def causes lots of stomach acid.
well one things for sure, Collinsworth will probably be all over Stafford’s Nut$ for his 5,000 yard passing season, even though it was the first FULL season he’s played with DET. After the game though, the winning QB will be Smith.
I am sure the staff has ways of making Suh look silly again this year. They’ll use his over-aggressiveness against them.
And talk about having no D? the Lions allowed the Rams to score 23 on them, and that was without heavy contribution from S. Jackson.
Why is ANYONE wasting their breath on power rankings? One of the utterly useless talking points in pro football. Like some glorified BCS rankings mean ANYTHING in the grand scheme of things. I’d like to know the G-Men’s power ranking heading into the last week of the regular season last year.
Have to give McCarthy credit, lining Cobb in the backfield was genius and it was giving us problems all day. That’s kind of the way I envisioned us using LMJ. But I disagree Grant, its not about spreading us out anymore. The MVP and the best WR corps in the league just did that and we more than held our own. We have four above average CBs in Rogers, Cully, Brown, and Cox. I have faith in all those guys against whoever. Cox had a bs PI call against Finely but other than that, he had a solid day. He’s only going to improve the more time he spends in the scheme. Scary thought for the rest of the league. Maybe I’m being a homer but I’m not seeing any real weakness in the defense besides over-confidence. Our CBs are vastly underrated. Whitner and Goldson are too. And Bowman covers ground like a damn safety. Even with Megatron, I fear no team’s passing attack, especially the Lions who are very one dimensional in that regard.
And as far as the rest of the league, I think the Ravens are at the top of the polls this week. What they did to a very good Bengals defense and offense was eye-opening. They looked scary good last night….the other Harbaugh is on a mission as well.
Giants were ranked 8th going into the last game of the season.
All true about power rankings – but you have to admit it’s a better discussion topic than the neverending Smith love/hate debates.
NFL.COM has the 49ers ranked number 1.
Justin Smith reminds me of that Chuck Norris WoW commercial.
“There are 1,696 players in the NFL… because Justin Smith LETS THEM LIVE!!!”
Schwartz does not impress me. And no way the 49ers are looking past this one, with the comments being made about Moss and Harbaugh.
I think we are going to destroy the Lions Sunday.
“There are 1,696 players in the NFL… because Justin Smith LETS THEM LIVE!!!”
There should be a shirt with that on it !
I’d buy it!
me too!!!
Me three!
MidWest – Patent that shirt. I expect a blog discount. :-)
I loved everyone of those comments except 1… The 49ers held the packers to 7 points. Not 22. I will never forget this win. We defeated a team that has owned us for years “sometimes with help from the zebras” but this time we went in and beat 15 on both sides of the ball. Good for Alex smith he is getting some props now. Not overboard love like some on here give, but he’s getting his due! GO NINERS!!!! Another gotta win game Sunday. Don’t want Detroit feeling good!
Agreed MD.
That has always been my contention with the exuberant AS supporters.
Let AS carve out his own niche in 49er and NFL history. He seems to be doing a good job so far and I applaud him for this. Better times are ahead for AS, but I won’t go over-board on the hype for someone who’ just doing their job.
Hey, that’s just me.
You hypocrites – but its ok to go over board on the hate and criticsm you loofs have directed at him over the years.
AES just last week you said Alex is known for his inaccurate passes.
Ninermd you of course suffer from amnesia – 7 yrs you have hated Alex and when others have defended him you called it Alexcuse. You are a moron if you think we can just forget your hating ways.
It makes sense though, only loofs like you will claim otherwise to proof to others that you are not haters – its that thing call guilty conscience.
Nobody asks for your thoughts but you find it necessary to let us know you are ALL IN.
Lmao! I wonder who this clown……….. Is? Who’s we? You’re a moron if you think Alex smith cares about what you think. Good or bad. Someone call this one niner fan a doctor. Another example of how one player makes his team. Oh how’s the all Alex smith team doing for your madden tournaments? Ha ha haaaa. And for all that faith you have in smith, way to pick green bay last Sunday. Your name fits your fanhood.
What is wrong with going overboard with a win? A win against the 15-1 Packers. A win in GB where Young never won, and it was in the era of the first Bush president. A win which puts a stamp on last year to let the NFL know it was no fluke.
Unless you plan on backtracking on some of the players (and there is no chance that happens I’m sure) support and defending if necessary.
Why do fans here tell other fans not to get overly excited about a win? Stop thinking you are calling it even. Because it is the fans job not to call it even, but to stand by their team ALL THE TIME! I stood by it thru nearly a decade of losing. I sure in heck will get over-excited now!
DS – Thanks for getting my day started on a positive note. Loved it.
You just don’t get it ds…. It was not an Alex smith win. It was a 49er win. And not getting excited? I’ve been sucking down halls for 2 days now trying to get my voice back. You’ve given nobody this win except Alex smith. Like you’re doing in this rant. I truly wonder where you will go when smith leaves one day. He is your only agenda on here. That and hating Crabtree. Who had an excellent game btw. And snatched some pretty bad passes out of the air. Remember the locker room code ds. TEAM FIRST!!!! When we were losing it was the team not just the QB remember? Same goes for winning. Have a great day ds. It’s going to be a lonely one I see.
I’ll work on it. :-)
The Niners remind me of the early 90′s Cowboys right now. Physical, disciplined, nasty and efficient. I hate the Cowboys, but those were great teams and this Niners squad reminds me of them.
Minus the coke and hookers, you mean.
And a slime bag owner
Claude,
I don’t believe these guys have a “fun house.”
Big P, Claude,
White house? Isn’t that what the Cowboys called their brothel/drug den?
Exgolfer,
That sounds about right. White house for all of the cocaine they had running through there.
BigP, good call. I thought AS looked a lot like TAikman last year and even more so this first game. I think the 9ers put more wrinkles into their offense, but for the most part they do remind me of the 92/93/94 D-Boys. With the success thus far and if it continues, I think some of the lower tier teams will start using JH/GR’s offense. It works.
Hoff gotta disagree a bit. Smith didn’t take the deep shots aikman did. He didn’t have Irving and Harper last season. If he can take one more step then I’d agree fully. As far as style of offense. Yes I agree. But he needs those big plays this season. Top 7 wheeew
I agree Hof, the philosophy seems very similiar. I hope the results are the same. Good times.
Good times indeed.
I think the 49ers compare more closely to the late 80′s – early 90′s Giants. Strong defense, strong running game, very efficient passing game.
Compare Phil Simms to Alex Smith – they’re the same guy on the field.
The 49ers 3-4 D is similar (strong front 7, suspect secondary), the run game is a similar power, grind it out approach. The coaching philosophy of chewing up the clock and playing keep-away is similar.
I know Baalke worked with Parcells – did Harbaugh?
That’s a comparison I like Msclemon.
@ Clem
I don’t think Harbs worked with Parcells, but he put in time with Ravens who employ a similar approach. So, yeah, mostly good comparison.
I’ll differ on one aspect on Simms though; he was money in the Red Zone. He had Bavarro, but AS has Vernon. AS will get better. Our Offense needs to be able to punch it in too when needed.
BigP,
Good comparison. Aikman actually said in the preseason game against the Broncos that he played the same way Smith does. Let’s hope we have a similar run to what they did.
Pro Football Focus’s Analysis of the game:
https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/09/11/refo-49ers-packers-week-1/
Executive Summary: Navorro Bowman gets the game ball; Alex Boone excelled in both run and pass blocking; Whitner and Goldson were the weak links in the defensive backfield (Goldson was in wrong place on TD pass to Jones); 49ers took advantage of Nick Perry; Packers threw short passes and threw them quickly; Packers did not attempt a single run to the left of center (Justin Smith’s side).
Good stuff Claude. PFF is really growing on me – they do good work.
Thanks, Claude.
PFF’s opinion on Goldson and Whitner was particularly interesting. I’ve thinking about which positions the 49ers are going to focus on in next year’s draft. Safety was at the top of my list, followed by OLB, TE and WR. What do you guys think?
I’d definitely see the secondary as a prime target next year.
WR will depend on how the team feels about the current crew. None of them are signed beyond next year. It might be a position that needs to be restocked.
OLB is hopefully set once Fleming and Johnson get healthy.
DL is starting to look like a need. Justin Smith can’t keep being awesome forever and Ice also has some years under his belt. The team needs to be looking for Justin’s heir.
@exgolfer, msclemons:
Safety (particularly FS), DL, OLB (can never have too many good pass rushers), TE. Also C, if they’re not sold on Kilgore, and WR, if they don’t think they have enough guys in the current crop to get them beyond 2013.
MSC,
Good point about the D line, it’s always a good idea to draft linemen.
If Fleming and Johnson turn out to be usefule players, then you’re right, OLB is set. That might not prove to be the case, though.
It’s nice to root for a team that is so well stocked at most positions. The only position I’m not at least relatively sold on the incumbent, is safety.
I agree that FS, TE, OLB, and WR will probably needed to be addressed in the next draft. One other position to keep an eye on is DE. If we win it all, Justin Smith could decide to call it a career. No Niner fan wants that, but there is always the possibility.
As it stands right now this is how things look for needs to address next offseason:
QB – Set
RB – Set
WR – Yes, need to address. Both Ginn and Moss have contracts expiring. Will Palmer be able to step up from PS?
TE – Yes. Walker has contract expiring.
OL – Pretty well set, but they like to add depth and competition here so would not be surprised to see a C and possibly a T brought in.
DL – Sopoaga and RJF have contracts expiring. Will Williams be able to fill that role? Also have Jarrod-Eddie and Masifilo on PS.
OLB – Yes, Set at starting position for foreseeable future. Johnson and Fleming are on roster (PS/IR) Can they step up as backup options?
ILB – Yes, Same as OLB, set at starters, but both Grant and Gooden have contracts expiring.
CB – Yes, Top 3 spots are set, maybe 4 with Cox signed through next season, but should look to upgrade the 5th spot and develop replacement for Rogers.
S – Yes, unless Goldson signs extension, in which case you are set.
Jack,
Pretty well sums it up, nice.
Good list Jack. I think RJF might be resigned due to his versatility.
That sums it up nicely Jack good job.
The best thing about this team is that other than Cowboy and Rogers, all of the top players are under 30. With 13 picks in next years draft (I’m guessing some will be traded for picks in ’14 or to move up) and another round of FA, this team can be primed to compete for the forseeable future.
Claude,
Good call on C. I missed that one.
When I first saw this string I thought WTF? Its only Week #2! But yeah, on reflection:
OC, OT, DS for depth & development
maybe: WR, OLB, DE, TE
With depth of talent currently on roster and a stockpile of draft choices it will be hard to get draftees to make the club. Maybe they bundle choices to move up in two or more rounds to get some impact players.
Doesn’t seem like much point in bringing in mid rounders at OC/WR/DS/DE; we’ve got developmental guys. Blue Chippers might make the roster.
Tuna,
I wasn’t going to post for that reason, but once I read the PFF article Claude linked to, and its criticism of the 49er safeties [I especially feel Goldson is lacking at FS - he should be playing SS], I thought why not.
Speaking of disrespect for our 9ers… I have yet to hear that the 49ers went in to gb and imposed their will, rather I keep hearing how GB basically beat themselves. All good. Truth is the 49ers beat them to a pulp. A defeat so bad we haven’t seen one in decades. And no the TB doesn’t count as a huge blowout game. Detroit next. Here kitty kitty kitty! Wheeeew
MD,
Don’t hold your breath. The national media has never given the 49ers their just credit. As much as I like Peter King, it made me sick the way he fawned over Brett Favre and comparitively ignored Steve Young.
No doubt Exgolfer. Even during the 80′s when the 49ers were dominant the national media gave their attention to the Cowboys, Redskins and Giants.
As far as ESPN, FOX and NBC are concerned nothing exists west of the Mississippi.
MSC / MD,
After semi-bashing King, I noticed that he’s got the 49ers ranked first in his “Fine Fifteen”. Oops.
On the other hand, what team could logically be first over the 49ers? If you squint really hard, maybe Houston, Baltimore or New England, maybe.
For what its worth Warner just did his top 5 QBs
1. P Manning
2. Ryan
3. Romo
4 Alex Smith
5. RGIII
KWarner knows how difficult it is to play the QB position. He has stated in the past that with all of those previous OCs, no QB would be successful. KWarner also appreciates smart play and not turning the ball over. Yes I would say AS is still ascending.
Hof – agree 100 percent. He is still ascending. Right now the ceiling is the limit and we still havnt seen much of what the Niners offense is going to bring to the table.
Hey if his meant end all be all. I’d be getting a free Super Bowl party. Wheeeew
That would be kool MD, my thing is this weekend against the Lions, this is a must win game for me or I gonna be one disgruntled fan wearing Suhs jersey.
Lol. What’s with these NFC north jerks we know? We have a good year and now they want to bet. Lol blue and orange doesn’t go with my skin tone. Lol
Undercenter,
Nice list by K.Warner. But obviously this is based on the first weekend of football.
The QB’ KW listed will no doubt have interchangable parts before the season is over, but for the moment this is a good list.
AS’ star is ascending and I’m gaining more confidence that my off-season prediction of him being all-pro will come to fruition.
The more I see the 49er offense the more I’m reminded of the SB champion Miami Dolphins who won with a good defense (ours is better), and a potent offense that spread the ball to it’s many offensive stars.
Bob Greise/Earl Morall were not counted on to throw for 300 yrds per game. They managed the offense with a strong running game and selective passing. That plan worked for the only undefeated team ever. I believe it can certainly work now!
AES
Well understood about only first game. I only thought it was worth noting that he got some love. He also stated if RG wasnt a rookie he would of placed him higher. Besides its only Warners opinion. I myself doesnt think he makes the top five buts thats just me. I do see good things to come we will know more on Sunday.
My concern with RG3 is that his first 10 passes weren’t on target. The receivers bailed RG3 out on those passes. The screen left was thrown behind the receiver who made an AMAZING catch to prevent what would have been considered a lateral. The post/slant that lead to an 88 yard TD was HIGH and would have been picked had yet another Receiver (Pierre Garcon) not made an amazing catch.
All that being said RG3 was able to finish strong, but the Saints have a terrible secondary. I’m sure RG3 will look good week 2 against the Rams, but then the challenges start. I’m just not ready to crown superbowl champs or rookie MVPs week one of the NFL.
I think week 8 is the earliest you can start making guesses as to whom is dominant, who has shown they can make the leap to the NFL, and who is a contender. Matt Flynn is a perfect example of a 1 game sampling.
I’m not taking anything away from RG3. His style is very Alex Smith-isk/west coast. YAC on quick passes. His first 7 passes were made BEHIND the line of scimmage though. His receivers derserve just as much credit.
Nice letter Grant. The interesting thing in looking at Detroit is that their favorite set is 11. This will allow the 49ers to play Nickle and keep both Willis and Bowman on the field and rush 4.
When they want to go 4 wide they generally either flex their TE Pettigrew, or bring in Sheffler. Both are big bodied guys and it will be interesting to see how they decide to match up.
They could really use Ryan Broyles.
The thing that GB did that made Cobb so effective was the way they moved him around. Using him out of the backfield made it very difficult for Cox because of the separation created due to their alignment.
Detroit, does not have that guy, and not sure they would use Broyles that way anyhow.
if they put the ball in the air that many times he’ll have as many pics as he did against the rams. And niners will cash in unlike st. Louis
Not as funny as last year’s Harbaugh spoof, but it did make me grin once or twice:
KSK’s The Harbaughs Know Nothing of Peace.
I don’t think I ever seen anyone literally foam at the mouth before. We should all be relieved that Jim didn’t decapitate a referee.
That was a sight. But I believe he would have caused the ref(s) to spontaneously combust.
Claude,
That was pretty good, the footage from “The Fabulous Mr. Fox” was funny.
intensity!!! they need to put that on a billboard!!
“You wanna wake the dragon?” LMAO! This seems like it would be a Harbaugh family Christmans:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjRhK_2BVxw
For those who were wondering how Boone did here is MMs take on him.
“75-Alex Boone: Started at right guard and played every snap. . . Made key block on linebacker D.J. Smith to enable Hunter to pick up 8 yards in first quarter. . . Pulled around right side and sealed off Ryan Pickett and D.J. Smith on Gore run play that went for 21 yards.”
Boone also got very good grades from Pro Football Focus. Definitely an encouraging start for the big guy.
This team defense reminds me of the Niner’s glory years, yea I said it, 1984, we might not have the secondary yet, with Lott, Wright, and Williamson, but I believe we will.
And Aaron Rodgers backs out of his bet. What a scumbag
Green Bay has it’s own 23J? Every time zone has one, I guess.
Cant keep the peace huh rib?
Too easy, md :)
Rib,
And too true.
Ribico,
Smith is still here because Peyton Manning tuned the Niners down. can you admit that. If Manning had signed here, Smith was a memory. So i don’t feel like I went back on what I said. Harbaugh and Balke did their part to find us a new QB. Peyton Manning didn’t cooperate. Thus, Alex Smith is back by default. Those are the facts.
Ex,
I’d Like to think you could admit that as well.
23J – I agree Alex would’ve been gone, even though Alex said he would have relished the opportunity to compete for the starting QB job with PM.
Old news now, Alex is looking great so far to me. Hopefully that will continue.
@23welcher:
So i don’t feel like I went back on what I said.
Even assuming you have have accurately described what happened (and you haven’t), it doesn’t change the fact that you went back on what you said. You welched.
You didn’t say I’ll stop posting if the 49ers don’t try to sign another QB.
You said I’ll stop posting here altogether if Alex Smith Is a 49er next year.
Guess what? Alex Smith is a 49er this year, and you are still posting. Those are the undisputed facts. Without question, you went back on your word. You welched.
No one can force you to honor your word. That’s up to you; either you are a man of character, or you aren’t. But just because we can’t force you to honor your word doesn’t mean we have to accept your b/s explanation that you didn’t really go back on your word. You did.
Do you guys have this fight every day? Enough already.
@ Grant:
Actually, it’s been a while.
Claude , can you admits that as well? Yes or no? Typical Smither…. DENIAL!!! Lucky to be here, lucky to have Harbaugh. Lucky to have you worshipping him!
@23welcher:
I admit and do not deny that you are a welcher. Can you do the same?
Alex Smith and the 49ers beat your boy Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. I am sorry if that upsets you. The rest of us are happy, and looking forward to the Lions game.
It’s a good time to be a 49ers fan. Too bad you don’t get it.
Jordan23,
That’s probably what would’ve happened, yes. I don’t know if that’s a big mystery to anyone.
Can you admit, that the 49ers didn’t feel it was essential to sign Manning? If they felt it was, they would’ve offered enough overall and guaranteed money to land him.
Grant,
It’s hard to believe, isn’t it? It’s like an itch that just has to be scratched. Part of it is, I can’t abide welching of any kind [it's a hazard of being a poker player, if you welch, you're finished]. And there is just no denying that J23 welched. Why shouldn’t he be reminded? Especially, since he won’t come clean.
Ex,
The dollar amount wasn’t solidified until after Manning chose Denver. He wasn’t in negotiations with the Niners at all. He wasn’t negotiating with anyone. He chose Denver, then they hammered out a deal.
Grant is trigger happy right now, if he says enough fighting I would listen.
GRANTinator “Hasta la vista, baby.”
23welcher, just pay up man, don’t be that guy!
That’s disappointing. If he makes a bet of any kind and loses, he should still keep up his end of the deal.
I saw little benefit in the whole thing. AR knows he better bring a lot more next time to match our D and AS efficiency if he plans on staying around in the playoffs.
Little benefit, but he should still keep his word.
Midwest
How would AR’s teamates feel about their guy wearing an AS jersey? Chances are 1/60 including coaches wouldn’t like it.
Won’t blame him for that. 2 bad games at home in a row against 2 good teams…I will blame him for.
He would probably get ribbed for it is all. But my point is if you make a bet you know you’ll welch on if you lose, then don’t make, no matter what the circumstances. That just makes look you look bad and lets the the winner of the bet know you don’t hold up your end if you lose.
“Green Bay has another huge game [against the Bears] in 3 days so … we understand where his head is, so I know he’s focusing on that game,” Morris told TMZ on Tuesday. Apparently there is no concern that Rodgers might skirt his end of the deal, however. Morris (of Boyz II Men ) told TMZ: “Aaron might be one of the classiest guys we know.” Rodgers grew up a 49ers fan in Chico and, while at Cal, he wore a Joe Montana T-shirt under his jersey. “I never had any type of revenge or get-back feelings toward them,” Rodgers said in a conference call Wednesday with Bay Area media.”They were my team growing up, they didn’t draft me and I’ve enjoyed my time in Green Bay. I still follow them from afar.”
Big P,
I like Rodgers, a lot, but I don’t think he’s always felt so warm and fuzzy towards the 49ers [understandable, no doubt].
Also, I really, really question a lot of things about Rodgers if he likes Boyz II Men’s music. If he just happens to be pals with Morris, that’s impressive. Considering he’d have to get past their music to befriend Morris, that’s true friendship.
I just seen that, therefore everything I have said on this thread is moot.
DS,
I remember you talking about how many touchdowns Crab had last year and me telling you how many Smith missed him on. Well at least we know he should have 1 this year. We all saw that play without coaches 22 film.
Saw the first sack on AS. Looked like he barely had 2 seconds before Matthews got there.
I took so much flack on here for saying Matthews would be a huge pressuring factor on Smith in this game. I heard over and over again Matthews was overrated. Staley was a pro bowl lineman. I wish someone told Staley that Matthews was overrated so he had the confidence to actually block the LB.
Now, Suh, Fairley, Williams and company are going to exploit Staley again. He’s going to earn that probowl spot until he shows he can manage protecting Smith.
I expect to see Moss a bigger factor in this game as Davis will be kept in to block more.
Chris
I saw that. I never thought you were insane for thinking it. Clay has a motor.
Interesting though that besides the sacks, he didn’t have a lot of pressures on AS. Usually that happens. Lots of pressures get lots of sacks.
Chris,
You’ve used that “too bad nobody told Staley that Matthews is overrated, so he’d have the confidence to block him” line multiple times, now. It wasn’t clever the first time you used it and it’s getting less clever over time.
Myself, I’ve always thought Staley was a little overrated. He is a solid starter, but I think he made Pro bowl in a soft year for tackles, and partly because he is an articulate guy who is respected by the players as a good union man.
I would agree Grumpy. Staley is solid but not spectacular. Good guy and I’m not going to complain about him but All-Pro? No.
Chris,
I said Matthews was overrated and still feel that way. He’s a decent passrusher but disappeared often last year in that regard and was erased in the running game on Sunday. There’s more to the position that rushing the passer. He’s more style than substance imo.
I understand what you’re saying Rocket, but 2 1/2 sacks in the first game of the season is better than any single 49er did.
I agree with you and think he gets more press coverage than perhaps is warranted, but the guy showed Sunday that he is legit as a pass rusher. He is GB’s version of Aldon Smith on a much worse defense. I don’t think they ask him to stop the run as much as they ask him to put pressure on the QB.
With these silly power rankings, and watching the game again (Buck saying 2 top seeds last year), and hearing that most people think the NFC is better now, it is curious that the Pats/Houston are ranked higher by some considering all the above.
Also interesting that Baltimore gets no respect. They beat a playoff team (Cinci) big time. Houston and NE beat nobodys.
I could care less about the rankings! Let all the experts rank all they want as long as our team continues to play their JH style of football they will be a handful for any team. However i do have to agree with Bay that Houston has a complete team with great defense, great running back, good QB and WRs. I am not sure how you can rank any team after one game but Houston will be up there on the top among the NFL best on paper! I just hope we stay healthy since just one major injury can change the course of the season. GO
GO NINERS and PLEASE stay health.
Chicago – Good post…….it’s gettin late out there.
Giants win Dodgers lose! 6 games up with 20 games left. Hell ya…..Beat LA
Sweet, Crabs!
The Giants magic number is 15.
xgolfer – I’m sure you know last 3 games of season are in LA, need to be 4 games up or more to be safe.
BTW, were you a pro golfer? Just curious. :-)
xgolfer -Ha ha just got the magic number thing… duh. Lol
Crabs,
Not pro, but used to be pretty good. Took the exgolfer monicker when my index went above 5.0 as motivation for me to work harder at my game.
That was 12 years ago, and it hasn’t stopped rising. I have a daughter who’s going to turn twelve [and another turning ten]. I’m sure you can figure the time line. Something had to give, golf, business or family. It was an easy decision. I play once every two months, if I’m lucky, and almost never practice. I’m trying the judo approach to getting the kids interested in golf, so far I’ve only had moderate success.
How about you, do you play?
BTW, your boy Crabtree is looking smooth.
xgolfer – Family first, you’re a good dad. I haven’t golfed in a couple years, just a hacker.
Good luck w/your girls.
Let me know who your favorite Niner is when you get time bro.
P.S. How about a golf related avatar? :-)
Crabs,
Favorite 49ers in my case [not in any particlar order]:
Jed York
Harbaugh
Baalke
As far as the players go, I started a list and it was basically the entire roster. I don’t have a particular favorite, I guess. You?
The only player I’m not crazy about, for his position, is Goldson. He would be a great SS, he’s just a good FS. He’s got tons of heart and might be a great guy, but I would like the 49ers FS to be more disciplined. I’m not saying he’s bad, just that that’s a position that could stand an upgrade.
xgolfer – Currently it’s Ahmad Brooks even though C15 is my screen name. I changed screen name to C15 the day we drafted Crabtree, was over-excited he fell a few spots to us. Still like him though. Bowman is 2nd favorite followed by MC.
I can’t even remember what my old screen name was, I rarely posted back then.
Crab15
“the day we drafted Crabtree, was over-excited he fell a few spots to us. ”
As did I. Hoping to do so again come playoff time.
:- )
Interesting top choice as well.
Jim Schwartz is getting ready for Sunday.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/AxjalQuCEAMvOpT.jpg:large
Good job Schwartz. Good effort.
The Schwartz is with you… but a firm handshake is no match for the power of Justin Smith and Patrick Willis…
:p
Excellent Spaceballs reference.
I owe you a beer.
Nice Grumpy. +1
Harbaugh to Schwartz: “I see your Schwartz isn’t as big as mine.”
“Now let us see how you handle it…”
Schwartz: “SH&%!! I hate it when I get my schwartz TWISTED!”
I wonder if Schwartz is using dolls and imitating the Niners’ defeat with them, ala Lord Helmet.
I see you have the ring. And your Schwartz is as big as mine” ‘ dark helmet. Lol classic movie
BIG P,
If Schwartz is Jewish, it is called a Shmeckle, not a Schwartz. Learn that on the Gene Simmons show.
I don’t think Schwartz is Jewish.
Your right Grant, and he actually name his son Christian.
Too bad you guys are all wrong. Go Lions!
Too bad the Schwartz won’t be with your Lions.
Why aren’t the Jets in the top 5 of the power rankings? Santonio Holmes says the league is on notice now. I despise that team and it’s mouth pieces.
Sean – Agree, did you see big-mouth Rex Ryan get run over Sunday?
Crab, I missed that. I was farming so only action I saw was my recording of the Niner game. My Jets fan buddy failed to mention that.
Can’t wait to yell at that team live in 18 days!
Sean – MNF vs AZ…..lucky you. You wearing a #15 jersey? :-)
Here’s the Rex Ryan clip.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KJFBSxjRO0
Crab, thanks for the link. Funny stuff.
Not MNF, Sept 30 Niners at Jets. Got my Gore jersey ready.
I think the power rankings should wait a few weeks before coming out. Maybe it’s the only chance some teams will have to be in the top 5 or 10. I think though that using last year’s numbers in this day and age of parity in the NFL is ludicrous.
NO, GB, Cincy, are all teams that had respectable runs and were contenders last year. This year they all look flat and like they should have just been able to walk into the place to win.
I could be completely wrong, but I just don’t consider Flacco an elite QB who can sustain the numbers he put up against Cincy. I heard HOU had made some improvements on D, but is Miami really the place to forecast any significant changes? They scored 24 points in the second quarter and then kicked 2 field goals in the ending two quarters.
GreenBay and NY could go 7-9, Miami could lose every game this year, and Vikings could go undefeated…(even I laughed at that one) The point is no one knows the ceiling for any team in the league yet. Don’t let the power rankings get to you. Some of these teams will never see the top 15 again.
Saw the last drive of the 3rd quarter and like to point out a few abot its 3rd down failed attempt:
1. Either MC or Roman messed up. I’m hedging on Roman. Why do we run a 3 yard pattern when we need 5? If it was 3rd and 12 or something, I get why we don’t run a 12 yard pattern. Takes more time, just get a positive play. And by throwing it outside like that, our WR can’t juke a defender so easiy since the sideline is so close.
But on 3rd and 5? Come on man. We should run a 5 yard or longer routes for all but the checkdown guy (KH).
2. AS should have thrown it to KH. MC ran more of an out, so the ball had to be in the longer giving the defender more time to get there. KH was just standing in the middle with nobody near him. With his speed, he gets nore than 5. Plus the pass is easier than the MC pass.
We were really moving on that drive. I felt we could have ended the game with a TD and I sensed we would get one on that drive.
I think they run a 3 yard pattern because that is what the defense is giving you. It then becomes the receivers job to break an open field tackle to pick up 2 yards after the catch.
I think the defense stands about a yard in front of the first down marker and lets everything happen in front of them. If you need 5, they have no problem giving you 4.
That’s why AS INTs are so low. He doesn’t challenge a defender, he takes what they give him. If AS had Washington’s receivers, the GB game would have been 63 to 7 instead of 30 to 22.
Jason
John Madden always had a cow over this and so do I. If the 3rd down is manageable (and 3rd and 5 is), the receivers should run that distance +1 in case the ball iunder-thrownwn or something else.
What good is a 3-4 yard completion on 3rd and 5 when it doesn’t get you any closer to any points?
AS has thrown so few interceptions because he is a smart guy who understands the situation in every game and what he can win/lose by taking a risk. That led him to 15-3 since JH has been here and JH has reinforced that philosophy.
I’ve complained a lot about the Niner WR’s, but I can’t complain about Sunday’s results. No drops (DW is a TE). They made clean breaks out of their cuts and showed acceleration. If there was a time machine, I would have liked for one or two of them to go right instead of left and vice versa, but the same can be said of AS or any other player. And I really can’t stand that type of discussion. Leads nowhere except for slinging insults at others/players.
We cremated GB in GB. Our WR’s were just as much a part of it as our RB’s/QB/etc.
oneniner
You need to email Grant then man and ask him what is going on. Because I didn’t see you say anything worse than what md wrote to you.
A # of people put up personal info on me, and while the posts were deleted, their future comments were not.
That isn’t fair now Grant. Point that out to him.
Oneniner is banned.
He will be missed. I always looked forward to reading his tidbits of knowledge. Very insightful stuff.
I got used to 19R, but then he wasn’t directing any venom at me. Sometimes he’d make good points and others he’d kinda’ drift over the line. A few of the nastiest one liners I’ve read on here came from him, but other times he’d make me chuckle.
We have a lot of personalities on here. I’ve come to enjoy some whom I disagree with or whose personal style can be abrasive. We can’t be cookie-cutter fans.
So, in a way I guess I’ll miss 19R.
This will also free up a few posters to focus their energies somewhere besides 19R; they’re probably coming for you, Prime! LOL! :>)
Maybe I should ban myself cause being objective and trying to defend the team are obviously faux pas’d around here.
YEEEEEEESSSSS!!!!!!! Doesn’t help him that he disses the host of the blog either. Now I can talk football.
Prime Time, you are officially banned partner! You are constantly harping on how good Alex Smith is, how he has improved, and how he is winning games. Meanwhile you are trashing trolls left right and centre and that is not allowed here. See you later pal!
What ever happened to Latino Heat?
Big P,
Latino Heat went packing, Grant is now the new Heat, called Yiddish Heat.
Latino Heat was another guy who was “pro Alex” and a troll hater”. Was he banned as well as Grant?
Maybe the vatos got him.
Neal,
The Yiddish Heat album drops on the twenny-fo’th.
FDM,
I don’t know, I just don’t know.
Rib,
Lmao. That was perfect.
That is awesome. One less troll.
huh,Thats right..I never called out the host or anything like that over there..but,might still be banned.
Oh,the drama!

Lmao. Now that’s funny.
Latino Heat = Oneniner, so both are gone. Poof
The excessive use of “….” will be missed.
Grant
Considering what certain people have said/done regarding anothers privacy on this blog and are still here, banning oneniner isn’t fair.
Too bad. He was a hard arse, but he was consistant.
miaocco’s offensive player review is out. its a pretty good read
Looking forward to the Detroit game with some trepidation. The 49ers had a great win and I’m hoping they don’t have a big let down at home against Detriot.
The Lions remind me of Diet Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash. The can looks pretty neat. It’s diet so it has all of the flavor of Sierra Mist with none of the sugar and zero calories. The splash of Cranberry gives it a sweeter edge than most diet drinks. At the end of the day though, its still just Sierra Mist. Which taste like store brand sprite with none of the bite.
The lion look good on paper. They have all the talent with none of the results. They have a QB who isn’t afraid to throw the rock into double coverage. They have megatron who should be able to get those mitts on anything in the zip code he’s running through. Then, they have Suh and Schwartz. One is the bladder infection, the other the cranberry juice home remedy. They have some great pieces but none of the bite. They look like a generic version of what should win a championship. They just aren’t as good as the real thing.
Diet Drinks, replacement refs, and the Lions all have one thing in common. You’re left missing the real thing.
Hmm..my posts arent going through on BASG blog all of a sudden..but I dont see any others..so I will not say banned..yet.
HEY-BASG is blocking my posts. I guess he caved in. Or maybe he thought I should take the abuse of his right wing white boys in silence.
Stafford and MEGATRON are gonna go Montana-Rice on your over -rated niners. Little Alex is gonna be running n gunning for his life. Ill bet you money my Detroit Lions run just fine against your front four. Your crybaby coach is gonna be so entertaining.
Um…last year proved which team was overrated. Wasn’t it your coach crying and whining like a baby afterwards because of a little slap on the back?
We’ll be looking forward to a repeat performance. Suh won’t know which way to block and Stafford won’t have anyone to throw to in the 3 seconds he’ll have to get rid of the ball. Detroits’ running game is awful against bad defenses…it will be like playing pee-wee football for the Niners to stop that aspect of your offense.
Alex showed you what he was capable of last time they played and if I remember correctly he threw the game winning TD.
Megatron is great….but doesn’t he usually die at the end of each movie? Great nickname – it’ll be fitting!
Attagirl! There was some Cheesehead on here last week saying we were dreaming if we thought we could win in Lambeau.
Everytime I see Jim Schwartz I think of Red Beaulieu w/the baby head (as imagined by Coach Klein).
Speaking of crying coaches……
http://media.photobucket.com/image/recent/jimrat204/Picture3-10.png
“WHAT’S YOUR DEAL?”
Just hope YOUR lardbutt crybaby coach does not have a coronary after he loses.
I tried to send Steve Berman an email…but it’s invalid. Not sure why..but I tried…and theguy@bayareasportsguy…wont send.
Alex Smith is #7 on Sando’s MVP Watch list!
Courtesy Eric Branch:
Phil Simms on CBS Sports Network’s new show, NFL Monday QB, which premiered Monday night, uses the term “franchise quarterback” when discussing Smith.
Simms: “It looks like he’s strong enough, his arm looks crisper, the ball comes out of there cleaner. That’s what really caught my eye more than anything. Physically this guy is getting better and he’s finally grown into his body where I think he’s what they want to call a franchise quarterback… I want to go back and play for Jim Harbaugh one day because every quarterback he touches turns to gold.”
Oh, the great EB. Thanks for posting Mood! Good times.
Hof,
I think last year Alex earned a honorary MBA in game management. But particularly in the last 3-4 regular season and play-off games, as Simms points out, Alex is throwing well in pressure situation, something he never did with any consistency before. The important thing for him is to stay healthy by not holding on to the ball for too long.
Yees. C’mon Sando be right and my dignity is safe. Top 7 y’all wheeeew!
AS looks like he has indeed turned the corner on his career.
It’s been a long time coming, but AS has arrived!
My prediction for this weeks niner game because of the wide spacing of the det d line the niners will run the ball 35 to 40 times this week. i also predict we will see CK out there 5 to 10 plays primarily running the option but it would’nt surprise me if after 5 or 6 successful runs he play actions and throws a long one to moss for a td.
Good call. I think the 49ers throw tons. Set up by the play action. Remember last time we used their fronts aggressiveness against them. I’m think they will not be so aggressive this time. Gives Alex a little more time to shred their weak secondary.
Ok..got off my email-no answer so far. Could be because I defended the Cohn’s. He and his blog had a hate for Lowell and Grant. If so..I WOULD DO IT AGAIN..I’m not going to follow,or knuckle under. I take plenty of heat..just wear thicker asbestos suits. Some can ,some cant…right Tim K.?
He answered my why with “Why what?”..more details later.lol. It might take awhile.
The 49ers will rout the Lions..
Yes. The only reason they didn’t do so last time was because lucky for him, Schwartz pulled those antics AFTER the game was over.
Ok,I’m not banned. It wasnt over Lowell and Grant or that I wanted to beat the crap out of the guy who talks about my mother. It was that I got actually moved to spam..when I posted for him to remove some spam that was on his blog. FYI if it happens to you.
The world is normal again.
I need a glass of milk…
Stan,
You are one of a kind on here. No ban for you. Also I support Grant, never bashed him even once.
Neal,
Super Stan is the man as is Grant. Those that want to bash them just can’t deal with ideas that are different than their own.
Well said Jack, also on a side note, my son’s team beat Lincoln last week 13-0 .
Yep,and I sure hated to think my online friendly acquaintanceship with the Cohn’s was getting me banned with a blog I Also had supported from a humble start. The posts I was getting too Neal was sometimes hostile..hard to get a read quickly if that got me banned.
Patience and not having it are my worst fault. Always has been.
Thanks Neal!
Stan the ” MAN “
Stan – you are a crack-up. Why would anyone want to ban you??
BASG is still bitter and jealous because he doesn’t have a press pass like the Cohns.
Congrats Neal!
Thanks Jack, he is getting better and better each week.
Grant
When are going to breakdown this week’s matchup?
You got to love the wham play. Here are highlights from last year’s game against Detroit. At 0:28 of this clip, the Niners run a wham play and execute it perfectly. This is how you attack an undisciplined and over aggressive D-line. I’m looking forward to the beat down the Niners will dish out this Sunday.
Check it out
I hope we have the real ref’s for this weekend, and anyone know the status of Ginn?
Ginn is working through something.
News out of Detroit is that MegaTron missed practice today. No details on why, and probably won’t effect his status for Sunday night.
i do’nt think we will be seeing the regular refs untill a few players blow up, get fined and the players union steps in. hopefully the reality that the owners do’nt give a damn about the fans or the player will finally sink in with those fans that back the owners in any labor disputes
After seeing Manning toy with the steelers on Sunday night, it’s scary to think what this team would be like for the next 2 years with him as our starting QB. Manning is as good as advertised. There is no QB better at reading defenses and getting his offense in position to be successful on any given play. He went no huddle on Pittsburg and just destroyed them. Made that defense look extremely average.
With Manning at QB for this team, we’d be making super bowl bets on number 6 and room in the trophy case in Santa Clara.
Jordo, the 9ers are 1-0 and JUST won in GB in their house! You can’t enjoy the ride can you? Sad. Are you really beating that SAME drum?? PFT
H67 – I thought that would steam you. :-)
Translate that PFT for me pal. Disbelief or initials?
Crab, it means disbelief. BTW, what is H-67 mean?? lol
Gofer, are you the new oneniner here? I’ll post what I want! Shut your trap and allow me to express my position any way I like. Did you see Pryton the other night??? Look like Alex Smith X 10. It’s the truth son. Kap is on Smiths heels. Grant could play QB for this team! That’s why Smiths days are numbered.
If Jordo wants to debate me, then he should use stats/facts. I don’t know if this is Jordo responding or not since the icon is different and he said he would keep it real. No one ever wins a debate with name calling.
Hofe – Follow the pattern, RG3, CK7, ELIte, Big Ben, Reves Island, Tom Terrific, Golden Graham, Teebow Time, AP, Beast Mode …….and H67.
@hof
This icon has been here for a few days.
As for using facts/stats. The only fact is JH and TB are in charge and we aren’t. Everything else means squat next to that.
you’re right and manning will continue to look outstanding right up till the 16th game ends and then……
old coach
Careful now. History repeating itself over a dozen times over again does not mean it won’t happen this time.
:- )
By the way, I think in part PM chose to go to Denver so he plays against the AFC West. God they suck. You may be old, old coach, but I bet you could beat the Raiders/Chargers/Chiefs.
Of course playing those crappy teams won’t get him ready to play good teams in the playoffs. A pattern of his thru his whole career.

“23J – I agree Alex would’ve been gone, even though Alex said he would have relished the opportunity to compete for the starting QB job with PM.
Old news now, Alex is looking great so far to me. Hopefully that will continue.”
@Crab
Alex still has a few flaws in his game, but I must confess that he may be the only QB at the moment who can run the Harbaugh offense.
The flaws are very minor and are being corrected as he plays more in this scheme. Missing a wide open Crabtree on sunday are things that he will learn to correct in time. It was no big deal because he led the team to a score right after that oversight.
Harbaugh’ scheme is an intricate one that is based on many moving parts. Alex is beginning to master it with cool acumen and confidence.
I said at the end of last year that anyone of 15 QB’ could run this offense. I’m beginning to see things differently now. After watching AS in pre-season and now with a big win against our albatross the Packers, I’m looking at AS with more of an open mind.
Once again, I’m glad to see AS carving out his own niche on the 49er landscape. He’s not good because WE SAY he is, he’s good because HE’S PROVING it on the field!
AES,
Funny part is, in my last post above , all I did was talk about what Manning did to the Steelers and Hofer lost his mind. He apparently thinks that Alex Smith is the only QB in this league. I said it the other day AES. Get the coaches 22 film. jH give Smith plays that Grant could execute. That’s what makes Harbaugh so good. Smith doesn’t have to complete a pass covering 10 yards in this offense. Tha yac might make it 20 but JH is truly the man for the way he tailored this offense to fit Smiths abilities .
PManning passed for 253 yds last Sunday – he threw a 2 yd pass to DThomas who ran 69 YAC for a 71 yd td. Another example was RG3 – short passes w/YAC. All QBs get YAC. It’s part of the WCO.
Fair enough 23J. But if that get’s us to the Super Bowl who cares if Harbaugh is cultivating plays that fit AS.
I have said that this will be a magical season for us. I’m going to try my best not to nit-pick on any player and just enjoy the ride!
20 years from now, all we will remember is that the 49ers won Super Bowl #6. We will likely forget who the starters were in 20 years (lol).
Let’s put down our sabres and just enjoy the wonderful ride 23J!
AES – Sounds good to me. Good post.
