Prediction: The 49ers will defeat the Jets, analysis to the first decimal

The 49ers will beat the New York Jets 23-13 on Sunday.

Here’s how it will happen:

The Jets will get the ball first. Either they’ll win the toss and choose to receive the kickoff or the 49ers will win the toss and defer.

Tony Sparano, the Jets’ offensive coordinator, will call a Shonn-Green run up the middle on first down, and Green will gain one yard.

Sparano will call a short pass play on second and nine. Mark Sanchez will throw it behind the receiver – or over his head, or off his head – and the pass will be incomplete.

On third and nine Aldon Smith will sack Sanchez.

Then the Jets will punt, Alex Smith and Frank Gore will lead the Niners’ offense on a 12-play drive capped by a Vernon Davis touchdown catch and the Niners will never surrender the lead.

Kendall Hunter will have his best game of the season. He’ll rush 15 times for 80 yards.

Gore will be a big factor on the Niners’ first drive. Once the Niners get a 7-point lead, he’ll spend big chunks of the game on the sideline. The Niners don’t want to overuse him in the regular season because he’s old, he wore down at the end of last season and he’s critical to their Super Bowl chances.

Randy Moss will not catch a touchdown, but Vernon Davis will catch two.

Smith will complete 71.2 percent of his passes, and Sanchez will complete 45.7 percent.

I did these numbers to one decimal. Sorry, I can’t guarantee accuracy beyond that.

Just kidding. I did the best I could, which in the past hasn’t been so hot. What are your thoughts?

  1. Crab15 says:

Grant, I like the Kendall Hunter prediction. I have Niners winning by 10 also (27-17).

  2. Nick says:

With Sopoaga out for this week’s game, I hope the Niners run defense is as stout as its been the 1st 3 weeks (ranked 8th in the league in rushing defense). The Jets will certainly try to run the ball this game, but they haven’t been able to run the ball effectively so far this year, and I doubt that will change in this game.

    27-13 Niners!

  3. Chris says:

Rex Ryan is a great football mind. I lack your confidence that the O-line (staley) is going to be able to support dropping back to throw the ball. That means that the TEs and RBs will stay in to block.

I think Baltimore’s game last night is a perfect eample of what Smith is going to look like Sunday. Brandon Weeden was blitzed nonstop. He couldn’t complete a three step drop without being hit. Smith doesn’t have the quick release throw the ball to save yourself mentality. Those hits won’t be hits, they’ll be sacks.

Smith doesn’t throw the ball in a matter that allows for YAC. So those quick outs are going to be 1 to 3 yard completions 0 YAC. That puts you in a 3rd and 7 to a 3rd and 9 range. Another area Smith struggles in.
I don’t think Tebow is going to run up and down the field. I’d be surprised if he had 8 snaps this week.

Holmes and Sanchez are going to expose the slant. Keller and Reuland are going to expose Aldon’s inability to drop into coverage.

You can’t cover the slant when your safety is 15 yards back running up to stop the run. Powell is a better runner than he’s showcased thus far this season.

This game is in NY. They only way they win this game is if Harbaugh find the killer instinct and throws caution to the wind. He better be going for it on 4th down. He better sideline Akers and be scoring TDs instead. This will be a slug fest in the running game. Both QBs will combine for 362 yards combined. Smith will throw for 132 yards. I think final score is 10 to 6. SF wins.

    • Nick says:

The Jets pass rush was non-existent last week. They couldn’t put pressure on the QB with rushing 4 (I believe they only blitzed against the Dolphins last week). If they decide to bring heat by blitzing, look for big plays by the Niners. Alex Smith – believe it or not – excels when the D is bringing the heat.

      • Nick says:

        * they only blitzed twice

      • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

        Nick,

It all depends on which team is bringing it. He does not excel against the overload zone blitz. Ravens, Bemgals, cowboys. They gave him fits last year.

      • 49erman says:

23jordan, Raven, bengals and cowboys didn’t even made the playoffs.. A. Smith almost made the trip to the Superbowl if kyle williams had not make that 3 rookie mistakes, that cost the niners and smith to the bowl.. And probably won the Superbowl, and you wouldn’t even be here talking crap about A. Smith…

      • DS94everXev says:

Ravens made the title game. Cinci the wildcard game. The points on 23welcher are accurate.

      • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

        49erman

You’re probably too young to be using the computer for this blog. Either that or you’re just a little slow. bengals and Ravens in the playoffs last year. You kids nowadays kill me. Now go play your Xbox. Take BS with you. I hear it’s got a nice XBOX history. Bwahahahaha!

      • 49erman says:

Here you go again with your idiotic comments. Can you please make some sensible arguments without making some stupid remarks. Is that all you do in this blog, calling people names? Act you ages, grow up and face reality, that you are one lost individual. Its not to late to be a nice person, for once in your life, rather than being a bully.

      • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

        49erman,

Okay, I’m going to act my AGES. you are killing me kid. What name did I call you. You know you are young. Your grammar is telling the tale son. Idiotic comments like what? Please point them out. I’m tired of you following me around like a little puppy. No treats for you. Now what names did I call you? Get off of this blog. Adults are up here arguing. You shouldn’t be hearing this.

      • msclemons67 says:

Real good point Nick. Alex is very good against the blitz.

Rex Ryan may be an uncouth oaf but he isn’t stupid. There will be a few targeted blitzes but I wouldn’t expect very many. There will be a lot of confusion though in the form of zone blitzes*.

*Zone blitz is a bad term really – only 4 men rush but no one knows which 4.

      • Jack Hammer says:

Smith is at his best when throwing against the blitz and off play action.

      • Adam says:

Bagging on other posters about being “too young”: dumb.

        Misspelling Colin Kaepernick’s name: priceless.

    • Chicago49er says:

Chris i respectfully disagree with your statements above base on the following facts and stats from the past three games:

Jets so far have less first downs than their opponents:
TOTAL FIRST DOWNS: Jets 58 Opponents 64, and their total rushing yards per attempt is 3.3 yards vs. Opponents 4.6 yards so there running game has not been anything to brag about and they have been allowing the opponents to gain 1.3 yards more per rush then their offense! in addition Jets passing comp is 50.5% while the opponents passing comp is 58.58% so Mark Sanchez is the same QB as Ponder which had a passing comp of 70% with one of the top Running backs rushing from the back field. I do agree this is the NFL and every given sunday any team may beat another team base on the level of preparedness and execution however, Niners should be able to contain the running game and Alex should be able to use the play action to pick up a few scores. The key to this game is to stop the big plays off the playaction and we can not afford to have 3 turn overs like the last game. GO NINERS

    • dangle says:

Don’t forget that Revis is out. This will drastically change the caliber of the Jets Defense. They can’t be as trigger happy with the blitzing safeties, check that, if they do blitz, it will be up to Alex to exploit them because they will have their 3rd or 4th CB on our 2nd and 3rd reciever.

  4. hov says:

49ers win 23-14 alex smith 25-32 for 220 (ike he allways does) when the last time he threw for 300?

  5. 49ersROK says:

What if Stephen Hill catches a big touchdown on us bringing back the question whether the 49ers picked the right receiver in the draft?

  6. Fred P Soft says:

Stephan Hill wont even be playing. And he sure wasnt the right pick in the draft for us. Jenkins will be fine when he puts on a few pounds and builds some upper body strength.

  7. Nick says:

    Way off topic:

Do you guys think Roger Craig and Ricky Watters belong in the Hall of Fame? They’re both nomenees for the Class of 2013.

    • Ceadderman says:

Roger Craig most definitely. Ricky Watters was a King but I don’t think that he deserves to be in Canton unless he’s visiting.

Craig deserved to be in the moment he was eligible imho. It’s only made it harder for him to get in since that day because there have been some very good Backs who were more specialized whose numbers were better. I will always cheer for Craig to get in because he carried himself in a professional manner on and off the field, his career speaks for itself and he continues to be a steward for the game.

It’s up to the writers whether he gets in or not. Sadly many of them hate that we had such a great team for so long. Look how many greats we have compared to the Steelers. We have as many if not more than they do, yet nearly all of theirs are in while we have Walsh, Rice, Young, Sapolo, Cross and Montana. I may have missed somebody but that’s pretty much where we stand for Bill Walsh era Hall of Famers drafted/traded for by Walsh.

From a team that had a streak of 17+ seasons of greatness(the longest in NFL history) that number is unacceptable. As much as I hated the Krypt Keeper, he was correct there is a bias in Canton and it has to do with teams that play outside the large market Television viewing areas.

      • Nick says:

        Cead

I agree with you regarding Craig and believe that he belongs in the HOF. He was the 1st 1000+1000 back. Only M. Faulk has done it since.

By the way, you missed Lott, Freddie Dean, R. Woodson, and Sanders. Yeah, I know, only Lott was homegrown. But these other guys also contributed to the success of the team while they played.

By the way, others worthy of mention are Michael Carter, D. Hicks, E. Wright, John Taylor, and K. Turner.

      • Nick says:

        Forgot Randy Cross

    • ribico says:

Yeah Craig, the first 1000/1000 player, definitely. Watters? hmm… not so fast.

    • Brotha Tuna says:

      @ Nick re: HOF
Sure I’m a hopeless Homer, but a big yes for Roger Craig to make the HOF.
Ricky? I’m leaning towards not. When Ricky & SY & gang won the SB Ricky was at the top of his game; a true star. Question in my mind is did he do it at a high-enough level for enough years? Since his productivity declined after leaving SF, I’m thinking not quite there.

    • DS94everXev says:

      Nick

Craig was key in those 89/90′s Niner Super Bowls. If you spent to much attention on JR, JM just had to check it down to Craig who high stepped his way to a decent gain.

Watters, why is he even nominated? A few good years. Left for the money, never earned it and is a forgotten RB.

Is BY in? If not, he deserves it.

      • Willie niner says:

        I agree with you DS.

      • BigP says:

        BS,
Watters was a hell of a back, if you actually know what you are talking about. He was extremely productive.

These are his numbers for his first six seasons after leaving the Niners.
        Started 96 of 96 games.
        1247.50 yards rushing per season
        448.50 yards receiving per season
        9.5 TD’s per season

      • DS94everXev says:

        Big Piss

        Stalk somebody else.

      • BigP says:

Glad I could teach you something, again. You are the queen of making crap up.

      • DS94everXev says:

        Biggie Pip

Wow! You gave stats! The question wasn’t about Watters stats. It was about HOF worthy.

        96 games huh? Well, there are 16 in a season. 32 in 2, 64 in 4 season. 96 games in 6 seasons.

So a guy plays 6 seasons and gets in the HOF? What team did Watters lead? Not rushing. But in leadership? What did he do to make those better around him? How sad were we when he left? He left for Philly to be “the man” and then how far did Philly go? A Super Bowl? How many title games? How many playoff games? Did his teammates speak glowingly of the guy in SF/Philly?

No. He wasn’t a leader. He wasn’t missed. He wasn’t the mising key to getting Philly anywhere. He produced nice stats. WOW! That is how I judge NFL players! Stats!

King of piss and crap. Can you not hit the toilet seat next time? Sit on the toilet next time. You really need to think a lot more.

      • BigP says:

        BS’s non-facts:
“Watters, why is he even nominated? A few good years. Left for the money, never earned it and is a forgotten RB.”

        The facts:
        1. The Niners couldn’t pay him what he deserved.
        2. He earned his next contract.
        3. He obviously isn’t forgotten considering he is talked about when mentioning the HOF.
Those are facts. Your ramblings aren’t and never have been.

        “96 games huh? Well, there are 16 in a season. 32 in 2, 64 in 4 season. 96 games in 6 seasons.”

That’s quite the math lesson, you repeated what I already said. Don’t know what your point is with that one, not that you need a point to ramble incoherently.

Bottom line: Watters had more production during a shorter career, and that is a fact. Typing another 5,000 words won’t change it.

      • Jack Hammer says:

DS says of Watters, “How sad were we when he left?”

Pretty sad DS. He was replaced by Adam Walker, and we all saw how that played out against GB in the playoffs….

      • DS94everXev says:

        BigPerv

Garrison Hearst was a lot more HOF worthy you fool. It was his injury that stopped us from winning the Super Bowl after “The Catch 2″. Steve Young said so. That is a guy who did more than lead stats. He led people. A lot more important mind you than leading a team in rushing.

Find me a quote from a Niner in 1995-96 who said losing Watters stopped them from winning the Super Bowl the following year. The fact they replaced him with a sucky RB doesn’t mean they were crying when he left. I didn’t. If a HOF worthy player leaves the team, you’re sad. They cried when Hearst was injured. I did.

But you got your stats! 6 seasons leading nothing, nobody caring isn’t HOF at all. Losers like you though look at stats and nothing else. A product of ESPN. Good for you.

5,000 words? You can’t understand 3. “Stay away stalker.”

      • Jack Hammer says:

“Garrison Hearst was a lot more HOF worthy…”

No he wasn’t. As you mention, Hearst was a team leader, but his overall body of work is not as strong as Watters. Watters was a more complete back. While Hearst may have been on the same level with Watters as a runner, Watters was a much bigger threat in the passing game.

      • Prime Time says:

We are one of the more fortunate franchises to have had some really great players wear the red and gold. I don’t think it’s fair to compare any of them with one another. They all had their special talent and did things to help us win a lot of games and some championships.
Let’s just hope this new era of 49er football can help us create a new legacy and more Lombardi trophies.

      • Josh says:

BY is up this year and he should be in.. He wont get in though the first time around. He was always my favorite 9er. No attitude, humble and showed up and dominated. Even with bars in his healed leg..

      • jsand3030 says:

Why are you guys even bickering about Waters. Hell Im rooting for any niner to get in.. I loved Waters and we couldn’t replace him when he left. I mean does anybody remember how bad we were with derek lovell? Anyway, Waters wont get in but what you guys should really be talking about is BY. He wont get in his first time around but hopefully, eventually he will..

    • Willie niner says:

Roger Craig YES!!!definitely……R Watters not sure…..don’t get me wrong he helped us in Super Bowl 93- 94 but hall of fame is way up there for him :(

      • philly9er says:

I think Ricky’s chances died with the “for who for what” post game interview.

      • Neal says:

Their was a special on the top 10 players that are not in the Hall of Fame, I know Ricky Waters was on the list, not sure about Roger Craig. I agree for who for what, didnot help his cause.

      • BigP says:

        Ricky Watters career stats:
        10 NFL seasons
        10643 career yards rushing
        4248 career yards receiving
        91 career TD’s

        Roger Craig career stats:
        11 NFL seasons
        8189 career yards rushing
        4911 career yards receiving
        73 career TD’s

      • angusinCanada says:

        BigP,
I didn’t know Watters’ career stats were that good….
He’s just not associated with the dynasty as much as Craig, for whatever reason. That hurts him more than anything else, I think.
I’m still ticked at Craig for the fumble against the G-men. That cost us a Superbowl

      • Jack Hammer says:

“He’s just not associated with the dynasty as much as Craig, for whatever reason.”

Craig was on 3 Super Bowl winning teams, while the teams Watters was a part of struggled to get past Dallas, and then when they finally did get over the hump and win the SB he left in free agency. Had he stayed the back side of his career would have been much different.

      • DS94everXev says:

That is because he walked away Angus. He had a choice to be a part of something great. He didn’t want to be.

That alone discounts him of HOF consideration IMO.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

RWatters was an explosive back. If there was a negative it was he would wear his emotions on his sleeve. He was a very talented RB that would sometimes sulk. RCraig was impressive because he came into the 9ers as a FB that was bulkier to play that role. Once WTyler left the team, RC lost weight and became the leaner quicker faster HB/RB. I still can’t forget that incredible run against the Rams.

Both RB’s were outstanding, but the two main differences were the 2 more SB’s that RCraig won and RWatters having a difficult time keeping his emotions in check which often saw him in a negative light.

      • dangle says:

For who? For what? lol what a jokester

      • Chicago49er says:

Big P, you are right on about R.Waters he was a great RB and we struggled after losing him! I have to say R. Waters was one of the most under rated running backs in the NFL.

Hoffer is correct if R.Waters could have controled his emotions maybe he would have been recognized more by the media and the NFL. GO NINERS, Beat the JETS this sunday

  8. ribico says:

And I’ll be drinking 25.8 ounces of Anchor Steam at Finnerties Pub in celebration after the game!

    • Crab15 says:

rib – Is that a cool post-game place? I’m coming to the stick week 17 for AZ game from So-Cal.
      25.8 ouncers sound good. :-)

    • Dan Abrams says:

I used to go to Finnerty’s for all of the 49ers games, but won’t go anymore. Way too crowded now that the Niners are good. It used to be so empty they’d order wings (No kitchen there), and give them away for free. Not that I’d like to go back to the days of watching David Carr throwing picks to the Panthers, but it’s just too much to handle for Niners games. Got Sunday Ticket instead. I’ll be at the game Sunday, but a post-game celebration at Finnerty’s sounds pretty sweet.

      • ribico says:

Right Dan, you’ve got to pick and choose your Finnerty’s times. When I need to sports bar a game, I usually head to The Riviera, 7th Ave south and W 4th.

  9. Razoreater says:

After last weeks defeat, the lingering after taste has me looking for the Victorine. To get a win against the Jets in New York the 49ers will need a 100yd performance from Frank Gore. They will need to punch them in the mouth and not let them recover. Punish every run, catch and throw. I would test Revis’ replacement immediately.

  10. Nick says:

The weather could be factor this Sunday. If rains (there’s a 40% chance), then the running game (for both teams will become critical).

  11. hov says:

Alex smith has only thrown for 300 yards twice in a 8 year career (*2009 at sea) (2010 vs phi) if thats not (#discountdoublecheckdown) idk what is.

    • Ceadderman says:

Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw didn’t throw his first 300 yard game until his 9th season and that was in the Super Bowl. So what if Smith never has another 300 yard game for the rest of his career?

I don’t care about statistics, I care about Wins. Smith is 15-4 from the start of the Harbaugh era. That should be enough for any 9er fan. Would I like it if he had the stats that the “Elite QBs’” have? Sure. But the earth doesn’t stop moving if he never does. ;)

      • hov says:

@rocket and @ claude balls all they care is about stats so more for them than anybody else.

      • claude balls says:

        @Hov:

Correction: I care about relevant statistics. What’s the correlation between throwing for 300 yards and winning?

      • DS94everXev says:

        hov

Interesting time to post that. You started the whole thread telling us a stat implying you do care about them.

      • Neal says:

Ceader and DS must be related, one compares AS to JM and now Ceader compares, Bradshaw to Smith. keep up the good work,

    • ribico says:

Similarly, if basing a team’s success on a QB’s passing yards is not lunacy, I don’t what is.

    • Hov says:

@ds I don’t care at all about stats like sum ppl on this blog do all that Stuip stat shows he doesn’t push the ball down the field and he throws mostly short stuff.

      • DS94everXev says:

        hov

Don’t need a stat to conclude that. Of course JM didn’t rocket the ball either. The WCO isn’t based off deep passes. The Raiders offense is. Short, high % ones, describes our offense.

And AS has good completion %, and is 15-4 since he’s been the starting QB in a west coast offense. Which is what he was drafted to play in by the way.

        Sounds good to me.

      • msclemons67 says:

Here we go again. DS trying to knock down Montana in order to make the bust look better.

        Montana in SF: 7.6 YPA
        The Precious: 6.4 YPA

Over a full yard in YPA is fairly significant.

        Montana ANY/A : 6.7
        The Precious: 4.9

Montana on average was top 10 in the league in yardage.

The Precious has been bottom 5 on average.

        Montana: 4 Super Bowls
The Precious: 1 giant choke in the NFCCG

Just stop it DS. There is no comparison between the greatest of all time and the bust.

      • DS94everXev says:

        msc

Where did I insult JM? 2 days in a row, you say I put down a QB but can’t pinpoint what I said to insult him.

By the way those stats are including YAC. And the best player in history (JR) along with the best receiving back in history (RC), best 2nd WR in history (JT) and the best HC (BW) in history to work with him since day 1 just mught have helped that a teeny bit.

Add the fact JM says he threw it for 5, JR ran for 15 and what do you conclude? That JM bombed it to guys who weren’t also really good. That makes sense.

VD would be the 4th best player for JM in the golden era. He is clearly AS’s best option. But you ignore that fact. How is AS a bust being in the NFL for 8 seasons? JaMarcus was a bust, right? How can you put AS in his class?

      • Hov says:

@ds So your saying if Alex had Jerry, Roger,John Taylor, Brent jones, and bill wash he would do the same things Joe did?

      • msclemons67 says:

@DS comparing Montana to the Precious is denigration. Trying to claim Montana only threw short passes is denigration. And of course, as usual you try to claim that Montana was only good because of Rice while conveniently ignoring the fact that Montana won TWO Super Bowls before Rice came along. Also – hate to break it to you, but Montana had a better YPA without Rice than with Rice.

        Next excuse?

As for calling the Precious a bust? You yourself have said that top 10 picks should be all world. A #1 overall pick that finally became average after 7 years is not all world. Hence, a bust.

Comparing the Precious to Montana is like comparing Crabtree to Rice. Just stop it. You make all your fellow Smithers look foolish when you do it.

      • DS94everXev says:

        hov

No. But if Alex had those players, nobody is complaining about him. Alex is a multi Super Bowl winner by this point.

Nobody will ever be like the BW Niners. Bill was running an almost exclusively new offense. The Niners paid their OC/DC lots of money, so the Niners style of offense was kept here. Resultig in the fact that teams only saw this offense when we played them. Which may be only once every 3 years or so. So, they didn’t see our style of game in practice every day or every other week from their opponents. So they didn’t have the reps/experience how to stop it.

That was 1 advantage nobody has had on any team since. Now if you have a great system, those OC/DC guys are hired elsewhere when promoted. Spreading that system out, thus teams see it more and get the reps/exp needed to stop it.

You all need to keep your jock straps on. JM is the standard of QB’s. Everybody is compared to him as the guy you want. Only here are standards argued about so much. There is a standard of how long a second is. How much a pound weighs. How everything is done/made/compared. Except your precious QB. JM isn’t a God. If he was, people still compare what God does to what others do, so even that is open for comparisons. Get off it already.

      • ribico says:

Inversely – If JM, Jerry, Roger,John Taylor, Brent Jones had Nolan and Singletary as head coaches, the likes of Raye as offensive coordinator, tell us how many SBs they would have been playing in?

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Clem, JMo average 211 yds per game passing in his 15 yr career. His yds avg was 7.5. JM’s best year yardage wise was in 1989 when he averaged 270 yds passing. It’s now a passing league, which is now reverting back to a balanced attack – everything is cyclical and JH is showing them how to win.

      • dangle says:

Ms. Lemons: Saying that Alex choked in the NFCCG is laughable and ridiculous. It took TWO special teams turnovers, blown calls by the refs, and Overtime for the Two-time Superbowl MVP to beat the 49ers. Clearly only one person on the 49ers choked and it was not Alex. (That person is redeeming himself though)

    • angusinCanada says:

      Hov,
go cheer for Cam Newton and the Panthers if you want 300+ yds passing and 6-10 records…
I’d rather take 230 yds and 13-3 records, thankyou.

      • 23jordan/ welcher says:

        Augusin,

You mean 185 yards and 9-7. Niners can’t win a Super Bowl with Smith. Last year, everything went right. We won’t get 38 takeaways this year. We can’t avoid injuries to key players all year. We can’t get away with this conservative play. We can’t not stretch the field with our offense and expect last years success. We need an arm at Wb that can threaten a defense. Smith is a liability.

  12. Bdizzlefarizzle says:

I like the predictions. Not sure how we’ll match up with this team, as they look like a different team each week and don’t really have an identity on Offense, and with Revis out, we’re not sure what they’re identity is on Defense!

I like the 49ers to win this one on the ground with a big day from our backs, a few Field Goals and a TD pass to VD!

@49ers Rock, I like the fact that you brought up Stephen Hill, as it seems like the no name WR are always the ones that succeed against our D. I think we’ll shut down Holmes, but look out for Jeremy Kerley, as he’s the one stepping up for Gang Green lately. I think Hill, like Jenkins is still a year or Two out, but unlike Jenkins, the Jets are not deep enough to keep him on the sideline.

Oh, and this crap about Tebow playing RB/FB is just a gimmick, I hope for Tebows sake the Jets don’t put him in that position, because I’d hate for P Willy or Bowman to be cursed by the gods for the rest of their careers for ending his!!

    Go Niners!!

    • Neal says:

      BS,
Asking your opinion on QB’s is like asking Bernie Madoff for financial advice, you continue to insult Joe Montana with your crush of Alex Smith, in the same conversation over and over again. Plus you have said on here that Fouts and Marino are not elite QB’s because they have not won a rings. Your football knowledge is next to nothing to NOTHING. get it.

      • Prime Time says:

How bout your football knowledge? You don’t even know how many players dress on game days dip stick!

      • Neal says:

        Primate. Answer this question.

Do you think Fouts and Marino are not elite QB’s because they didnot win a ring?

      • Prime Time says:

Dan Marino was and is one of the greatest QB’s to play the game. He is in that conversation. Fouts I never really got a chance to see play often and he was someone you heard a lot about but I don’t remember much of him and his accomplishments or successes in the game.

      • DS94everXev says:

        Poor squeal Neal

Make fun of my brain power, but you can’t figure out how to hit the correct reply button. On top of that, you lack the neurons to figure out you replied to somebody else.

Keep trying. You’ll learn to tie your shoes all by yourself one day. I’ll keep hope alive that you will.
        :- )

PS You didn’t ask me anything. Maybe you should just skip it next time.

      • Neal says:

        BS,
Listen to your younger brother,Marino one of the best ever.

      • Medic One says:

I usually stay out of these arguments, but everytime someone says something to DS, prime appears like superman and Lois Lane.
I only mention this because DS calls people out for double posting. I think the covers have been pulled here.
As for the Smith to Montana comparison, the coaching staffs of the Chiefs and the 49ers could trust Montana to pull the trigger. That isn’t the case for SF. If SF has the year that football outsiders predicts, this is Smith’s last year here.
I expect to see more of Kaepernick this week and the following weeks.

      • Prime Time says:

Medic if your gonna pop off prove it. Whenever DS and I slap some sense into uneducated football fantasy fans, the one and only comeback people have is “they must be double posters”. That is as weak and immature as “I know you are but what am I”
        Grow up Medic one!

      • DS94everXev says:

        medic

        What????????

People have accused me/prime/oneniner of being double posters since I’ve been here. I have perhaps 1 time. And that was a joking post.

The most recent thing with Chris/Jason….that was Claude who accused it based off of who said what. Then Grant proved it. Chris and Jason haven’t convinced Grant that they aren’t the same person yet.

So, I’m going off of the most known data. Chris/Jason are the same. If that information changes, then I’ll change mine. As a guy in the medic field (one that evolves all the time), you should respect that.

Count up the posts minus the Chris/Jason ones where I accuse double posting. The number will be fewer than you you have fingers on a 4 fingered man. In addition, Grant has posted that we are all different people (prime/me/oneniner). Though you are now among those who don’t respect that and dis-respect Grant’s word now.

Thanks for staying out of it. Swell job getting the facts straight beforehand.

And try to follow the conversations between prime and myself a little closer before going off. We’ve disagreed plenty of times. Just because we don’t cuss one another out and name call one another doesn’t mean we are the same person. Sad that you think that we must be because of that.

As for the AS to JM comparisons, I have no idea at all what the Chiefs have to do with it. The comparison I made was JM 1981 to AS 2011. What the Chiefs have to do with that, only you know. If the Niners have that type of year, say good-bye to MC as well. And likely a good half dozen other guys who are major players because this team will have failed. Expect coaches to get fired. But, you just focus on AS. Because that is ok here.

      • Prime Time says:

That’s right DS we don’t always agree and I name call only the haters who have no clue.
That’s the go to card for people that can’t talk football, just throw out the double poster horse $h!t

      • Medic One says:

Don’t take it personal. I merely made an observation. I haven’t seen Prime post an independent post. Each post has been a reply that was some support/defense of DS. Just an observation.
If you think I put any credence into what Grant says, you’re mistaken. I really don’t care if there are 4 people on here using 25 names. I read this site because I like the 49ers and I’m bored.
I think I echo the thoughts of the majority of the readers on here when I say I’m tired of scrolling through 250 posts by/of you arguing with someone about something unrelated to the topic. We’ve all heard your opinion and reposting it 249 more times doesn’t make you popular. It makes you annoying. Now don’t take that personal. It’s just an opinion.
That being said, I know that each day, the sun will rise in the morning and set in the evening. I know the same drunk frequent flyer I dropped off at Memorial will be back in the rig 3 hours later on his way back to Memorial. And I know that I’ll continue to have to sort through 250 posts of fighting between you and everyone else on this site.
As pointless as it is to tell the drunk he is wasting resources, it’s still a conversation we have two times a shift. So, I’ll continue to scroll through your posts.

      • ninermd says:

Someone get ds a medic. Ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

  13. Mr. Automatic says:

I also foresee a huge game for us on the ground. Yes, Revis is out and we will test their cb’s, but I think this is gonna be a slugfest of a game, decided in the trenches. 9ers come in focused on the details and the defense steps up with two turnovers.

    SF 24 – NY 13

  14. james says:

I think one of these days your prediction will be creepy accurate and you’ll be a legend. Keep trying!

  15. Houston 9er says:

The line on my sportsbook for this game is the 9ers by 4. The line makers usually give around 3 points to the home team so they think the 9ers are a better team by one TD than the Jets. That seems about right to me. Dustin Keller is questionable for this game. If he plays the Jets offense is much better. If he’s out then the Jets will struggle on offense. This is a come back game for the 9ers after a lackluster effort last week. I agree the 9ers will get 3 field goals and 2 TD’s so 23 seems to be about right. The Jets point total will depend on several things including Keller and the 49ers adjustment to the edge attack the Vikings used against them. I fully expect the Jets to use the Vikings strategy as their blueprint for this week. I think the 9ers coaches will make the appropriate adjustments and the 9ers will win but I do think the Jets will score around 17 points. So my prediction is:

    49ers – 23
    Jets – 17

  16. redngold says:

I’m wondering when Harbaugh & Co. will decide to dress LaMike#23 for a game .. ?? … Let’s get a small package of plays for the little guy

    • Jack Hammer says:

      redngold,

We won’t see James this year unless Gore or Hunter go down with an injury. He has no role on Special Teams and that spot is too valuable for only a few special plays.

I like him too, but expect we will see him next year. Consider 2013 as his “redshirt” year.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

It is interesting that our top 3 draft picks aren’t dressing. I’m not worried about them, they’ll develop, but its interesting.

      • Mr. Automatic says:

Definitely not what we’ve grown accustomed to over the past decade or so, that’s for sure.

      • dangle says:

It really does speak to the depth of the team. This year they have the luxury to redshirt their top picks because the roster/contract/salary cap situation worked out so that we could keep most everybody. This Won’t be the case in the very near future, because teams with success can never afford to keep all of their players. That is when the new guys will step into contributing roles.

  17. ribico says:

You know, we are still going against the best CB in the league.

    (relevent links inside Cromartie’s head)

  18. Jack Hammer says:

“Mark Sanchez will throw it behind the receiver – or over his head, or off his head…” Tebow getting hit on the back of his head with that pass last week was priceless. For those who haven’t seen it yet, you need to check it out : )

  19. AES* says:

I’m still a little shell shocked (lol) over last weeks prediction and loss.
I predicted the 49ers over the Vikes without any hesitation. I was reeling so much from the loss that I couldn’t sleep on Sunday night.
    But I just can’t myself so I’m going 49ers 31, Jets 10.

Also, I vote for Rodger Craig for HOF honors.
If Bill Walsh was the creator of the West Coast offense, R.Craig was the quintessential (piece) RB to help it function smoothly.

    • Hoferfan67 says:

AES, MFaulk usually speaks highly of RCraig as well pointing out that his was the first 1000/1000 guy and how difficult that was to achieve. When a top HoF RB is endorsing your outstanding play, then the credentials are in place. Time for the voters to get it right. They also need to add EddieD to the Hall as well.

      • angusinCanada says:

Eddie D. should be a no-brainer. The single most important aspect of the greatest football dynasty in the history of the cosmos. If he’s not in, no other non-players should ever be in.

      • angusinCanada says:

        except for bill walsh….ahem..

      • Jack Hammer says:

Remember, Eddie D had a little issue in Louisiana with gambling. That is keeping him out…

      • Brotha Tuna says:

        @ Jack
My memory (!) is that Eddie D’s Louisiana issues were not gambling but involved a payoff, solicited by the Governor, to allow a development project to go through. The Gov got his charges (or at least punishment) reduced for rolling on Eddie. In my opinion, Eddie thought “OK, is that how its done here? Fine, I’ll pay.” Its like arresting the John with the Pimp & Hooker. It was outside of football, and not gambling, so maybe the powers will relent some day.

      • Jack Hammer says:

        Brotha,

Here is a link to an SFGate story regarding his suspension.

        http://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/49ers-Debartolo-Faces-Possible-New-Charge-3015858.php

      • AES* says:

        Hey Hofe,

Sorry I didn’t get back to you earlier bud, busy times at work (lol).

R.Craig should be voted in because of his impact on the West Coast offense. Craig was a HB/FB/WR type player who could excel at all three. Also, he was an excellent pass blocker.
Just look at the players who did not have success in the WC such as Lawrence Phillips (who missed the block to end SY’ career), Wendell Tyler (who was among the first incorporated in the WC).

Players like Ricky Watters, Charley Garner and Garrison Hearst had some good succes in the WC with RW having the best amont the three.

But Rodger Craig was the perfect WC RB. The WC offense had to have a great RB with many levels of skill. RC created the mold for all others to follow!

      • Brotha Tuna says:

@ Jack. Right you are, and once again my memory banks only provide partial recall. As this condition progresses past history will get better and better as I make things up!

    • Crab15 says:

Hofe – When Faulk speaks I listen. Glad to hear he speaks well of Roger Craig. Definitely HOF (Hall of Fame) material.
      HOF (er) I like that.
BTW HOF (er) – you were right about last night, I was tanked……Did you have to embarrass me? Lol.
Hey I’m coming to the stick from So-Cal week 17 w/wife for Arizona game bro. Bringing my rockblocker boom box for tailgaiting.
It’s a long ways away but I’m planning ahead.
If any of you Niner brothas are interested in having a friendly tailgate brewsky let me know when the time gets closer.
I don’t give a crap if you support Alex or not. WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.
Just wanted to throw that out if anyone is going to that game.
Hopefully our starters will be resting that day but if not, it’s on!
I’ll mention the road trip again in November.
We WILL beat the Jets! Good times!
      TGIF!!!

      • Crab15 says:

pretty funny, Grant, good one. hey, if we didnt know from investing in markets that predicting the future is impossible, we’d know it from the NFL.

just because i know a lot of Jets fans, I’m hoping for 49-10.

  21. Mood_Indigo says:

I’m a little concerned about the Niners defense. The front office kept the starting unit intact from last season, and there have been no injuries of note (until Sopoaga hurt is leg). Yet the D has allowed five TDs in five red zone possessions. Last season, they allowed only 14 in 34 possessions. What changed?

    • DS94everXev says:

      mood

I brought up the same basic concern a few blogs back. I can see that nobody has really cared to discuss it as you’ve had no replies to his post before mine, and neither had I.

The reason: That topic doesn’t involve AS. And we only talk about AS here. If AS played defense, we would be all over this point. He doesn’t so we aren’t.

      • angusinCanada says:

Perhaps the reason is that you post such a high volume of crap, the legitimate stuff you do post gets overlooked.
I’m serious. It’s not because i disagree with you. I like Smith, I think he’s under-rated, and I think the majority of the discourse on this site is uninformed and irrational in that respect (to put it mildly). That been said, DS, I almost always skip over anything you post, it’s just too much.
So, if you’re open to constructive criticism, more conciseness, less repetition. If you’re not into constructive criticism, carry on.
RE: the defence, you raise a good point. Vikes game wasn’t good. However, small sample size, and if I recall, 1 td was a great play by ponder with a rusher in his face, and the other was a freak catch by Rudolph. I fully expect them to sort it out just fine.

      • DS94everXev says:

        Angus

Times of such posts would be helpful. And which aren’t. You’re not helping anything if you don’t. You’re just being a jerk. Up to you.

Keep in mind the material that was written directly before and after by others in your evaluation. Maybe crap is more common than you think from more sources than you think.

      • dangle says:

DS perhaps I can add a little bit of insight. I like your posts and opinions, but sometimes you might consider just letting stuff go. I think what Angus is referring to is partly the volume of posts, as well as fully engaging in (responding to) really meaningless and mean-spirited arguments. The mean-spiritedness is generally Not coming from you, but you always seem to respond when someone else puts it out there.
        -namaste

      • Neal says:

BS, Other than your younger brother Primate, you think everyone a jerk, even the Smithers. lol what a dummy

      • ninermd says:

Criticize ds????? It won’t have it. Even though you put it in a nice way. Ds is an egotistical “know it all” loves to blame the defense and others for smiths bad games. And will spin th truth in the way it see’s fit. Angus I’ve always thought you were a down the middle poster. Maybe a little to the smith side. But always keeps it fair. So IMO your cred and NO real reason to attack ds speaks volumes on ds’s rants and nonsense.
I think it’s pretty pathetic of you ds to take such offense to something that alot of posters have said on here hundreds of times. Maybe you should check yourself. But then again that would have to take guts and heart. Two things you lack. Pathetic ds. A new low!

      • DS94everXev says:

        Dangle

        1. Thanks for the thoughtful reply (serious me, not sarcastic me).

        2. The volume posts thing is interesting. Most people who have bitched about it, get upset when I don’t reply to them. They don’t like the high volume, but if I don’t reply to their question/statement, they go off and comment on it (“where is DS now” type comments aren’t uncommon). So, that is what happens.

        3. Most of the stuff I write to others insulting them is because I’ve asked them to stop replying to me, and yet, for them complaining about me, they sure find reason to bring me up, reply to a guy they hate without me provoking them at all. If they just respected my request and skip my posts (or we got an ignore button), this blog is a lot better quickly.

        4. I have been replying a little more nastier lately. No doubt. But the rules of this blog are not followed and are not applied evenly to all. Specifically to oneniner being banned. BigP went a lot further into invading my privacy and isn’t banned. So oneniner shouldn’t have been neither.Ban both or none at all is cool. But not consistently following the same banishment rule to all isn’t.

        5. I’ll try to not reply so much to those attacks.

        6. I have skipped threads/posts from EVERYBODY at one time or another. Mostly when their insults, but sometimes just because I’m tired of the same things from the same people. I’m fine if others do it to me. But I don’t point it out to them. That is rude.

    • Nick says:

      Mood,

Good question. The only big change I can think of is the absence of P. Harrelson. He was solid against the run and kept Aldon fresh for obvious passing downs. Nonetheless, I think the red zone D will improve. We’ve had some tough matchups so far.

      • dangle says:

I would not discount the fact that our defense has thus far faced the Packers and the Lions, two of the most potent offenses.

    • msclemons67 says:

      Two things:

      1) I wonder if bringing back all 11 players created a bit of complacency. Everyone feels a bit secure because “we rocked it last year and the coaches didn’t replace anyone”.

      2) WTF is Aldon Smith doing in coverage so much?!? I can see once in a while to keep the offense guessing but it seemed like he was in coverage an awful lot against the Viqueens. It was another example of emphasizing a weakness instead of a strength.

      • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

        MSC,

Aldon is nowhere near ready to cover right now. He looks lost out there anywhere near the secondary.

Kilgore and Tukuafu operated as a 2 man wedge.

  24. 49er42 says:

    Prediction: 49ers 23 jets 13

HOF yes to Roger. If he had played in N.Y. or Dallas he would be in. Was Frank Gifford that much better than Roger or is it because in played in N.Y.? I think Roger was as good, and maybe better than Gifford.

  25. Jack Hammer says:

The 49ers will defeat the Jets by a score of 17-6. The Jets will attempt to replicate the gameplan that Minnesota used last week to upset the 49ers, speed up the game by sticking with the run and making timely throws on third down and in the red zone. The only problem with that is Mark Sanchez is not Christian Ponder.

They will try to utilize the TebowCat as well, but it will be no match for the fundamentally sound 49er defense as they look to use this as a bounce back game.

On the other side of the ball the 49ers will get back on track following it off balance performance last week. Look for big days from both Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter in the run game, and Randy Moss will catch a TD pass from in the red zone.

** To marvel your 49er fan friends with your knowledge during this weeks game, check out my latest post at http://ninerchatter.blogspot.com/ **

    • claude balls says:

      @Jack:

Just read your blogpost on the Tebowcat. That’s some fine, detailed analysis you have there. How many hours of film study did it take to figure out the Jets’ tendencies?

I assume that you are not predicting the Jets will attempt to replicate the Vikings’ defensive gameplan. If not, what do you think they will do?

      • Jack Hammer says:

Thanks Claude. I would have to guess about 10 hours of film work total has gone into the posts so far, but the TebowCat was the easiest, because the Jets are so predictable in almost everything they do offensively.

As for the Jets defensive gameplan, that is a bit tough to predict with the injury to Revis, but my guess is that as a result their approach will be similar. Last week when Miami went heavy they loaded the box with as many as 9 guys to try to stop them. I see them trying to do the same thing again this week, and on the backend I see them trying to replicate the Vikings zone shell approach in an effort to help the cornerback replacing Revis, whose name is escaping me.

Look for the 49ers to counter with some “Shot” plays on early downs out of their heavy sets. That has been a tendency of theirs through the first 3 weeks.

    • Nick says:

      Jack

Also, S. Green is not A. Peterson. So, the Jets will have a tough time replicating the Vikings game plan. The only way there will an upset is if the Jets jump out to an early lead and force Alex to beat them through the air.

      • Jack Hammer says:

You’re right Nick, but Greene and Powell combined can give the Jets the productivity that Peterson got last week. The key will be stopping the Jets’ passing game when they line up in or motion into and out of the Bunch formation. There passing game is most effective out of this formation.

It could cause the 49ers trouble if they let them het into 3rd and 5 or less.

  26. Fabio says:

Haven’t been too impressed with Kendall Hunter’s second season thus far. Everything we read had us believing he was looking great prior to the start of the year. He hasn’t shown much growth coming off a pretty damn good rookie year but then again it is just 3 games into the season.

  27. Hoferfan67 says:

These games are usually closer than they should be. The 9er will return to their balanced attack. MC and MM will have good games with short and intermediate catches with the exception of one big strike long. MM and AS will connect for a 50 yd TD. The stats: AS will pass for 261 yds and 2 TD. FG will run for 101 yds w/one TD. VD catches a RZ TD.

    The score: 9ers win 24 – 16

  28. Willie niner says:

Sorry guys but I heard similar to all this last week and …. Well you all know what happened. I love the NINERS but I am not going to have my expectations to high…… Like we said before if somebody said we will win kick them in the shin real hard….

  29. ninermd says:

The 49ers win by 21 an will be resting the starters by the 4th quarter. Smith will get 351 yards. The running game will have a total of 123 yards. And the defense will have 3 t.o’s. Grant this is how you call a blowout. Niners easy! 34-13.

  30. Adam707 says:

Grant any chance Niners activate James at all this year

    • msclemons67 says:

      Or Jenkins?

      • Adam707 says:

Yea. I mean why draft these guys 1st and 2nd to not use them. Fleener could have at least cobtributed by now. Or hill.

      • msclemons67 says:

They may end up being great – who knows? Right now they’re as useful as the UDFAs on the practice squad.

    • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

      Adam707,

I can’t remember anything like this. Your 1st and 2nd round picks can’t even dress on game day because they aren’t good enough???? Something is wrong with that picture. Obviously, they were not very good picks. They may be good players, but we clearly could’ve used an outside linebacker and a cornerback or safety.

      • Adam707 says:

People will argue its because we are so deep. No team is so deep you don’t need draft picks. Interesting they dont even give these guys a shot. Must be bad in practice.

      • DS94everXev says:

        Adam707

        Why the negativity?

Which RB do you not activate? Jacobs isn’t active due to injury. He will be when healthy. Keep in mind James came in late because he actually cares about his education, so he’s a bit behind.

And you bashed me for suggesting AJ may replace MC. Which WR do you leave out? Ginn isn’t active due to his injury. KW has been good. RM perhaps?

If you cut in other positions, which?

You’re making much ado about nothing.

      • msclemons67 says:

@Adam707 patience! We just need to give Jenkins and James 7 years to get used to the NFL. It’s the 49er way.

      • Razoreater says:

Its all about opportunity dude. They will get their opportunity sometime this year. When they do…I expect them to take full advantage.

      • Prime Time says:

Lemons what’s your deal? Every move the Niners make or don’t make your upset about it. If you don’t like the 49er way, go cheer for the other 31 teams or better yet, tell someone who cares.

      • angusinCanada says:

I don’t think there’s a player that was available where the 49ers picked that, early in his rookie year, is better than the top backup at any position on this roster (I have done zero research on that, but I read something to that effect somewhere).
49′ers are stacked. It’s a good thing. The brass knew that when they made these picks. They weren’t picking them to plug em in this year. Time will tell if they’re any good.

  31. 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

Get a look at this stat From Profootballfocus. Alex Smith has a league worst depth per target at 5.1 yards. Now if that doesn’t make him Captain discount doublecheckdown, I don’t know what does. We can’t stretch the field guys.
    WARM KAEPERNICK UP PLEASE!

    • Adam707 says:

      Yawn.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

        + 1

      • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

        Adam707, Hofer,

I figured you guys wou.d ignore that stat. That is embarrassing. Do we have a bet Hofer? 5.1 yards a throw.
On a serious note, do you guys think Smith might be hurt? Heard he went to visit the specialist that worked o. His shoulder some time ago?? There’s a reason for this miniature passing game!!! Lol.

      • exgolfer says:

        J23,

Do you think it’s funny that Smith might be hurt?

      • Hoferfan67 says:

ex, just more of Jordo’s hyperbole. He’s been wrong so many times he doesn’t think it is that bad to go out on a ledge and state something that is totally out there is no man’s land to get attention. Triste.

      • exgolfer says:

        Hofe,

I know the notion of Smith being hurt is something J23 concocted. I was only commenting about J23 laughing about the idea.

      • Prime Time says:

Are you done wiping your tears from this afternoon 23welcher? Poor guy. Well the good news is you will be wiping away more tears when the Niners beat the Jets.

      • 49erman says:

        Poor Grampa Welcher !

      • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

        Ex,

I think it’s funny that Alex Smiths average target is 5.1 yards. Lowest in the entire NFL. Hence the nickname “Captain discount doublecheckdown Smith.”
BS told me that he went to see his shoulder surgeon in the offseason. Smithers are sick right now!

      • exgolfer says:

        J23,

Can you post a link to those rankings? I’d like to see the variance in the depth of targets.

The only thing I’m sick of is the repetitiveness of your posts. You should consider a name change to BrokenRecord23.

    • claude balls says:

      @ 23welcher

Only you would use a fantasy football stat for WRs to evaluate a QB for actual football purposes. Maybe if you focused on relevant stats, you wouldn’t be 0 for every QB-related prediction you have ever made.

I’ll bet Troy Smith, Nate Davis and Josh Johnson had great average depth of target numbers.

      • Prime Time says:

He likes QB’s with the big arm but no brain to read a defense or play book for that matter. He does not like Alex cause Alex is intelligent, saavy, clutch and winner. Nothing any of those QB’s ever were.

      • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

Hurts doesn’t it, I thought it was pathetic too. But that’s Alex Smith.

  32. 49erman says:

    @3grampa welcher,
I forgot you you’re not gonna change Grampa Scrooge. You’re too old already for a change in youe miserable life..

    • 49erman says:

And by the way Grampa Welcher, I don’t need to follow you around. I can hear you from a mile. Making those stupid comments.

  33. Razoreater says:

How many sacks do the 49ers get in this game?

  34. cUSwin! says:

Ladies, and gents! I have been a niner fan since I was eight years old and started playing flag football. Now, I have a three year old boy and a wife who also love the red n gold!Unfortunately I didn’t get to see the first four superbowls, but I saw Young and co. Torch the charges. Really felt bad for the bolts. It has been an absolute pleasure cheering for my team. Sadly, I was on the closing end of their greatness, followed by some decent times with mooch and carcia. Also Owens, top ten of all time, but his departure started, for me, the dark ages! Now, JH has ushered in a new era! Last year’s NFC championship run provided one of the most exhilarating experiences of my football watching life. So, expectedly this year brings a whoe lot of excitement for me! So, I come on here to read what some of my other 49er enthusiast think. Usually pretty good, funny, and interesting stuff, but lately just a lot of bashing. I just want to say I really appreciate all of your points of view, but strongly feel like everyone’s discourse could be brought up a few degrees.

PS. Sorry for being so long winded!

As for the discourse, it would be good if some learned to type better. There isn’t even a “B” in my name. But no crackdowns on it has led to what it is.

      • Prime Time says:

Welcome faithful and you sound like a faithful fan. Unfortunately faithful around here means “don’t tell me, show me” and even then that does not seem to carry water. Faithful also stops at #11 but not anyone else.
Maybe if you could define what fan is, some people could learn something.

Thanks for the welcome. I did see one, it was the 95 SB with young. I am hoping for one this year. The reason I started liking the the niners was cause my dad liked them, and a lot of the kids around me did too. Just grew from there. I am from the central valley. Near Fresno. Go niners!

      • DS94everXev says:

That is why the post at 10:46 is different. If it was a double post, the same material posts. That isn’t what happened. I’ve never had that happen so I wrote my 10:52 post wondering what happened.

Barring an injury to Alex, CK7 has a one out of a million chance of starting this year.
Harbaugh is sold on Alex this season. Alex had two very good games and one crappy game so far.
Here’s a perfect example of Kaepernick’s chances of starting this season. Note the Harbaugh haircut :-).

Hammer – What happened with you and Prime? Must have been Alex related.
Me and Prime are cool with each other. Although he just called me a loser for visiting your site.
I actually tried to post something on your blog yesterday but when I submitted it, my post was deleted and I was asked to login. It sucked because it was a long post.

      • Prime Time says:

Crabs I just like to bust his chops. He actually does post some good football stuff. Your not a hater and I think everyone is entitled to like or hate Alex. It’s really only 3 clowns on here I have issues with and neither Hack or you are one of them. All good. Niners need a W Sunday.

      • Prime Time says:

Adam 707 if AS wins a SB, cry baby welcher will say it was the defense, special teams, and coaching that won it, not him. You heard him after every game, what do you think he will say? Clowns like to sing and dance!

      • Jack Hammer says:

        Hey Crab,

Thanks for checking it out. Sorry to hear that. Try it again when you have a chance. I will check it out.

As for Prime, he doesn’t like me telling him how things will likely play out. Started with the whole Crabtree thing during the preseason. It’s all good, I just grew tired of the name calling with him.

      • Prime Time says:

Come on Jack, don’t be sensitive, you have name called as well. It’s all good. I just know more about football then you do, even without camera 22. No hard feelings, enjoy your new blog career an don’t forget to bring your followers.

      • Crab15 says:

Hammer – No worries, I’ll be back.

      • Prime Time says:

Singletary should have taken the Baylor job when he had the chance. I think his style would work at the collegiate level. As for me Crabs, I love my current job, would not trade it for anything.

      • msclemons67 says:

I think you’re right Prime – Singletary might have been good at Baylor if he hired good coordinators.

Sing in a role as a mentor to young students would fit. He may have been a horrible head coach in the NFL but he is a very good man.

      • msclemons67 says:

That’s great stuff Jack. Nice work.

As a comment on your latest – I haven’t verified but on the Dan Patrick show they said that after the 3 losses last year the 49ers gave up 11 points.

That’s 11 points combined in all 3 games.

      • Jack Hammer says:

Thanks msc. Patrick was close. After their 3 losses they gave up 17 points: 8, 6, & 3 for an average of just under 6 points per game.

      • msclemons67 says:

I will never trust Dan Patrick again.

      • exgolfer says:

        MSC,

Dan Patrick is very good at what he does, which is focus on the human interest side of sports. He covers it all, but he emphasizes the human interest / humorous side of sports. He even says it himself, he’s not trying to be a super hardcore sports show.

    • Bayareafanatic says:

Jordan, Smith can get this team to a SB. As long as the defense is lights out. Other average QB,s have done it. So it’s not out of the question.

      • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

Bay, that was 15 years ago. This is 2012, it’s not happening . Funny that they believe it can.

This just in. Alex Smiths average target is 5.1 yards. Lowest in the entire NFL. Discount doublecheckdown Smith.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Bay, I agree with MD. AS will be above average (top 7) and they will get to the SB this year.

      • Adam707 says:

Tom Brady won 3 super bowls with average QB play.

      • Chris says:

Average QB play? Are you serious? In ten Seasons, Tom Brady has played in 5 superbowls. He’s won 3. He’s also been named the MVP of the superbowl 2 times.
So, what you are saying is that Superbowl MVP holds no merit. If that wasn’t enough stupidness, that “average QB play” was League MVP in 2007 and 2010. In Fact, 2010 was the first year an MVP was picked unanimously. But don’t stop there either. That “average QB play” is ranked 4th ALL TIME amongst QBs in the history of the nfl who have attempted 1,500 career passing attempts with a 96.4 passer rating.
The stuff that’s spouted here is just ludicrous.

      • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

        Adam707,

Damn you just hot owned! Very move Chris!

      • Adam707 says:

Owned? Not even close. He looks at Bradys overall picture and forgets that back when he actually won super bowls he was an average/slightly above average QB. He won super bowls throwing for a little over 220 yards a game, with about a 60 comp %, Int ratio around 2:1 with no more than a 28 TD season. and a sub 90 QB rating. Hell check his stats the first season they won (190 ypg, 18td 12int, 140 yards passing in the super bowl). Sounds like a game manager. He played solid, but had a great defense. Sound like anyone? You are in aww now because of the monstrous stats he puts up now, but he has yet to win while being the elite passer. Yes he won MVP’s in 2007 and 2010, did i say he wasnt a great QB or anything of the sort? NO. I said when he was WINNING SUPER BOWLS HE WAS AVERAGE!! And stats prove that.

      • Adam707 says:

Your problem is you didnt read what i said correctly. i said “Tom Brady WONNNNNNN 3 super bowls with average QB play” There you go, i emphasized won for you. You look at his career and hes a top 5, maybe even top 2 QB of all time. Still doesnt change the fact he played average 10 years ago.

      • Prime Time says:

        Well said 707!

      • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

        Adam707,

My bad Adam, I was out of line for saying that he owned you. Your opinion is your own and you have a right to that. I shouldn’t have commented. My bad bro. I wish I could erase that.

      • Chris says:

        Adam707 says:

        September 29, 2012 at 7:41 pm

Owned? Not even close. He looks at Bradys overall picture and forgets that back when he actually won super bowls he was an average/slightly above average QB.

That makes you sound even stupider Adam. He didn’t win three superbowls with “average QB play”. 2 of those superbowl won, he was voted the superbowl MVP. THE SUPERBOWL MVP.

That 2007 year he had almost 5000 yards and 50 tds. Average play…

But let’s look at earlier years. 2006 Brady threw for 3529 yards and 24 tds. Um, what’s average there?

Keep going though. 2005 Brady threw for 4110 yards and 26 TDs. That was 3rd in the league. 3rd is average??

Must have been 2004 when he threw for 3692 yards and 28 TDs. They sent that average QB to the probowl.

2003 he threw for 3620 yards and 23 TDs. That year he won the superbowl and superbowl MVP with 354 yards and 3 tds while also setting a superbowl record with 32 completions. Gosh, a third year player really playing average there huh?

        Just stupidness.

      • Chris says:

And if your comment wasn’t dumb enough, here is the link to his stats http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BradTo00.htm
You are comparing his rookie and first year. Even then, his passer rating was 86.5 as a rookie. He was ranked number 6 in the league with that passer rating(4 qbs ahead of another “average” passer in Peyton Manning). That’s not “average”. He was ranked 2 with long passes while being the 5th most sacked QB that year.
He did drop down to 9th in the following year in passer ratings. I guess being top ten in the league makes you an average QB, but was 6th in passing yards. Average??? 7th in passing yards per game. Number 1 in TDs.
2003 He’s 6th passing yards. 3rd in the deep pass. 10th in passer rating. Gosh, I’m trying to figure out where he wasn’t a top ten passer. His TD’s that year, 10th.
2004, He’s still top ten in the league. 2005 top 3 in most categories, number one in yards, 6th in passer rating. 3rd in TDs.

So please show me the stat that’s average?? Average would be middle of the row. 32 teams. 16th….That’s average. He isn’t near average.

      • Adam707 says:

You love throwing out the word “stupid” yet you are non comprehensive. You cant read. First of all you keep saying rookie when he was in fact a 2nd year player. Won super bowls in his 2nd 4th 5th seasons. So you get your years right. You using his 2005 stats, 2007 stats, 2010 stats are completely irrelevant to the argument i am proposing. I say 220 YPG, 60 comp%, int ratio 2:1, mid 80 rating (his avg stats in seasons winning super bowls) is average, I say THOSE ARE AVERAGE STATS, its an opinion. Everything he has done after has helped mold him into one of the all time greats, he got his stats and his records, and his season MVPs. My argument and opinion is that THE YEARS IN WHICH HE WON SUPER BOWLS he played average. I am not arguing anything about his season following, he has been a top 2 QB over the past ten years. Do you comprehend or will you keep throwing out 2005-present stats, which are irrelevant to what im arguing.

      • Chris says:

Unfortunately for you, the word you used (average) has a definition. Average means something that reprents the middle point. So wrapping it in the phrase, “in my opinion” does little to change the word’s meaning.
It’s the same as saying a blue crayon in my opinion is actually yellow. The crayon is still blue and my opinion can and is still wrong.
Tom Brady’s 220 YPG, 60 comp%, int ratio 2:1, mid 80 rating were top ten stats in the league each year. That’s not the middle point or average play. Calling Tom Brady’s numbers average is ignorant. When he put those marks up, they were top ten numbers. Defenses and rules have changed since. You can’t compare those years to 2011 or 2012. You have to compare the 2011 and 2012 numbers to the competition of those years. Those 2011 and 2012 numbers are also top ten numbers.
We are splitting hairs when we say that in 2001 he wasn’t still a rookie. In 2000 he threw 3 passes in 1 game. If three passes relieves you of your rookie status, 1 set of downs, then more power to you. I consider 2000 and 2001 the culmination of his rookie season. Again, it comes down to a definition of the word. It’s about being new at something. I’ve seen NHL players called a rookie into their 4th season because they hadn’t played more than 8 games across the previous 3. 1 set of downs in 1 season doesn’t alleviate the rookie status.

I’m curious. Has anyone in the NFL ever sucked for their first 7 years and then made it to the Hall of Fame?

      • Grumpy Guy says:

Bradshaw probably came *somewhat close*, but not for 7 years; maybe 4 or 5? John Brodie did not quite make the HoF but is probably in the conversation. He was drafted in ’57 and did not really figure out quarterbacking until ’65. So it’s a longshot but not totally out of the question.

I guess then we can give Alex a mulligan for the two stone age years he had with Singletary.

    • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

      Prime,

      That’s a new Alexcuse , 7 mulligans for Smith, I like it.

      • Prime Time says:

He deserved at least 6. 4 with Nolan and 2 with Sing. Those guys couldn’t even change a diaper. Buwhahahahahaha!!!!!!!

Let the record state that I am not an Alex hater or defender. I am a niner fan! That being said I do have a an opinion about Alex. I will admit that when the niners took him number one overall I was not happy. And his rookie season was upsetting, and did nothing to change my opinion, but at the time rookies were expected lose. The years that followed under Nolan and Sing/ well we all know how bad that was, did not give me confidence. Then last year came and for the first time in his career he played consistently well. Not amazing, lights out, except for the NO game and a few late comebacks. He is not flashy, he is not a top five type of player, but I do believe he is a winner. He was in college, and now under Harbs. As a person, I think he is a great human being! His grittiness, and determination are A plus. He is, by most accounts intelligent. But, from a strictly qualitative perspective, not a great passer. As a fan, he to me, is not a smooth passer. What I mean is, from my untrained eye, his quarterback play is lacking, he isn’t smooth. So while my gut tells me I don’t really like him as our quarterback, I do love the fact we have been winning, and his stats are improving! So I will support him while he is our starting qb. Untill A. We start losing consistently because of him, B. We clearly have a better Qb on our team. I know I have not used any statistics or other imperial evidance, this was just my biased, fan based opinion. Kind of like stating your favorite ice cream flavor. Not wrong, or right, just what you prefer.

Well said cUS….. I am in the same frame of mind. Welcome aboard and Go Niners!

    • AES* says:

Don’t be surprised if the people who welcomed you earlier come after you tooth and nail for not giving AS the highest compliment (lol).

But your assessment is fair and is one that has been at the center of many AS discussions and disputes around these parts.

I personally put AS’ past behind him because no one can change it. He has proven that he can win under the Harbaugh system and that’ where I will now judge him and all 49ers players.
I will continue to look for improvements in AS’ game now that all the stars are aligned in his favor.
      So far, so good.
      No more excuses!
