49ers-Giants matchups: Part VII – Anthony Davis vs. Justin Tuck

The 49ers play the Giants on Sunday at Candlestick. In the meantime, I’ll break down a couple of key matchups per day.

RT Anthony Davis vs. DE Justin Tuck

Tuck dominated this matchup last season, beating Davis for two sacks and five quarterback hurries in two games.

Now Tuck is 29 years old and he looks out of gas. He has zero sacks and only two QB hits through five games.

Davis, on the other hand, seems to be coming into his own. The 22-year old right tackle has not given up a single sack this season.

Davis did give up one QB hit and one QB hurry to Mario Williams last week, but Tuck is not as good as Williams right now.

I expect Anthony Davis to handle Tuck on Sunday.

Advantage: 49ers

Tuck will not be able to get a sniff of the QB against Anthony Davis.

  2. Adam707 says:

Davis has been best lineman on the team thus far. Seems like he is finally getting it. Glad to see too at such a young age.

  3. six-ace-deuce says:

For once in his life Rex Ryan is right, Anthony Davis has grown into one of the premier Right Tackles in the league. Davis is rated in the top 3 Right Tackles in the league right now, he’s putting together a pro bowl-caliber season, perhaps even All-Pro.

I recall a large of fans urging for moving Davis to right guard. Good thing the coaches persisted with him.

      @ Mood_Indigo:

      I was one such fan.

      I was wrong.

Now I want Harbaugh to move Davis to left tackle.

Even if they do not move him to LT, that possibility will keep Staley on top of his game. But I think Staley’s ceiling has been reached.

Just like the coaches decisions to keep Brock this year (who has saved a few TD’s on ST) and AS last year. Fans love the stats/numbers. Coaches evaluate play. Big difference between the two.

    Anthony Davis ALL DAY!!!!!

  6. MauiDave says:

Looks like spending 2 #1′s on Iupati & Davis turned out to be an awesome investment. Our O line is finally becoming a force to be reckoned with. Now with Boone playing well at RG we are set for a long time.

  7. Mood_Indigo says:

It’s great to see the Niners coaches develop young talent. Quietly, Kilgore has become a viable backup at guard and center.

A year ago this matchup would have been a laugher in Tucks favor. Now it’s not and that is a real testament to the improvement AD has made. I think they will end up moving him to LT eventually.

  9. 23jordan/ Alex Is A Hall Of Famer! says:

This will be a true test for Davis. Tuck ran around and through him quite a few times in that NFCCG last year . Should be a greater siring stick to see where Davis is. Tuck is one of the best in the league . Davis has a chance to be.

    • EB Niner says:

Tuck may be still warming up. His stats don’t look good and AD has looked awesome, but he hasn’t faced real premier players so far this year, like Staley has on the other side, so let’s go AD! Make everyone a true believer buddy!
