SAN FRANCISCO — This is the live blog for the 49ers’ Week 7 Thursday night game against the Seattle Seahawks. I’ll update this frequently with observations and analysis from the press box.
6:08 Alex Smith’s first-quarter stats: 4 for 9, 46 yards, 1 sack, 60.4 QB rating.
6:12 The 49ers just used their final timeout of the half. That means they can’t challenge any plays in this quarter.
6:13 The Seahawks have easily driven down the field in their second offensive series. Lynch has 22 yards on two carries. Wilson hit a wide open Ben Obomanu for a 31-yard gain. Perrish Cox was in coverage – he got lost at the line of scrimmage. Now it’s third and five for the Seahawks at the Niners’ 17.
6:13 Lynch is on the bench having his wrist examined.
6:14 Wilson throws it up for Braylon Edwards in the end zone, but Patrick Willis knocks the pass away.
6:15 The Seahawks make a 35-yard field goal. 6-3 Seahawks with 12:07 left in the first half.
6:16 The Seahawks are going with four and five wide receiver formations in obvious passing downs, forcing the Niners to play their dime defense, in which they substitute Patrick Willis for Perrish Cox. Very smart of the Seahawks.
6:21 The 49ers go three-and-out in their third offensive series. On first down, Gore gained three yards up the middle. On second down, Smith threw a quick out intended for Crabtree, who ran a slant. The pass fell incomplete. On third and seven, Joe Staley false started, and on third and 12, Alex Smith checked down to Frank Gore, who picked up 6 yards. Andy Lee punts. Seahawks ball at their 33.
6:23 Greg Roman has called 9 running plays and 11 passing plays. He should be calling more runs than passes.
6:29 The Seahawks drive it down to the 49ers’ 35 and kicker Steven Hauschka hooks a 50-yard field goal attempt wide left. The Seahawks’ best play on the drive was a 27-yard pass to Sidney Rice. Rice jumped right over Tarell Brown to make the catch on the sideline. The 49ers have the ball at their 41 yard line with 6:56 left in in the first half.
6:33 The 49ers go three-and-out again and Alex Smith has yet to throw a pass to Vernon Davis. Peculiar, to say the least. Roman can call at least one play where Davis is the primary receiver. What is Roman thinking?
6:41 It’s the two minute warning. The Seahawks started the drive calling four straight runs and gaining 38 yards. They’re wearing down the 49ers’ defense – Justin Smith and Ray McDonald had to come off the field for two plays to get a breather. A holding penalty just backed the Seahwaks up into a second-and-17. The Seahawks are averaging 5.4 yards per carry on 14 carries (The 49ers are averaging 5.8 yards per carry on 10 carries).
6:46 Chris Culliver knocks away a deep pass to Golden Tate on third and 17. Clutch play by Culliver. Ted Ginn Jr. returns the punt 38 yards to Seattle’s 49 yard line. 1:27 left in the first half. The 49ers have no timeouts left.
6:49 Smith missed a wide open Vernon Davis in the middle of the field on first down. Smith threw the ball away.
6:49 On second down, Smith throws a grounder as he gets hit. Third and 10.
6:50 And on third and 10, Smith bolts the pocket, tries to scramble up the middle and gets sacked by Bruce Irvin. The 49ers have to punt with 29 second left.

6:52 Alex Smith’s first half stats: 7 for 15, 3.9 yards per attempt, 57.4 QB rating. Should he play the second half, or should the 49ers turn to Colin Kaepernick at QB?
6:55 The Seahawks big cornerbacks, Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner, are doing an excellent job jamming and distrupting the 49ers WRs at the line of scrimmage. Moss does not show much initial quickness on his releases vs. tight coverage.
The 49ers may have to use motion for the wide receivers to get a free release from the line of scrimmage.

Well, we know who the better qb is. One guy maks the throws and the other one… well sometimes he can hit an open reciever and sometimes he cant hit the broad side of a barn. At this point Alex is the niners ceiling.
Alright, we let them make a few plays. The hawks r gaining confidence! We need a drive!

Those overthrows to Kyle Willams in the 1st Qtr were embarrassingly bad.
2nd one was bad…..1st one Williams was held. He could only run about 60%. 2nd one was a td though, ugly.
Two misses that need to be made but the D has not been stout either.

cmon angus. The first throw to Williams was 15 yards too far to the inside. If he leads him closer to the numbers then he has a chance to make that catch. It really was a horrible throw. The WR was held but Smith threw it so far inside the ref couldn’t even call PI because it wasn’t close. It was embarrassingly bad.
I didn’t think that one was that bad, but hey, there’s plenty to pick from. Smith, the defence, and Roman, in that order, need to pick it!
