Alex Smith is a better QB than Harbaugh was, says Harbaugh

SANTA CLARA – Here’s what Jim Harbaugh said at his Monday press conference about Alex Smith’s development as an NFL quarterback.

HARBAUGH: I can’t tell you how much respect I have for him. He’s played so well, handles himself, does all the things that I wish I would have done as good a job as he has done on and off the field (when I was a player).

Q: Are there any parallels between him and you in 1995? (Harbaugh was cut by the Bears in 1993 and had the best year of his career with the Colts in 1995).

HARBAUGH: He’s better.

Q: Why do you say that?

HARBAUGH: He just is. Better player.

Won’t argue there. Never thought Harbaugh was all that good as a player. I will say that I thought he maximized his talent which for any player at any level is all you can ask for. He was very scrappy and worked his ass off for every inch he got out of himself. That in and of itself is very impressive.

Now if Quentin Coryatt had been able to catch that gift wrapped interception at the end of the AFCCG from Neil O’Donnell of the Steelers then Harbaugh might actually have a SuperBowl win during his playing days.

I wish someone had asked JH about Smith chirping at him on the sideline. I assumed it was Smith saying he wanted to be in there but who knows. But that would be a good thing because I don’t think it had anything to giving away time to CK, but more him just wanting to be on the field to keep it rolling. Would be interested to hear what JH would say of that.

I’m curious too, but I doubt that Jim would give a straight answer on that one:
“We were just talking through something.”
      ‘Care to elaborate Coach?’
“No, nothing really I want to say about that.”

I loved seeing that fire. That’s something I haven’t had the opportunity to see from Smith before Sunday.

I remember seeing that as well. Roughly early 4th qtr it looked like smith was fired up as he was walking to the sideline, but I also remember seeing him make a gesture with his hand that I couldn’t figure out. Post-game we find out he hurt his finger and I think that was partly what I was seeing.

      IIRC
On Alex’s last scramble run, he was really animated and he was talking to someone behind him. I was thinking he was complaining to a ref about a non-call or he was talking to a Bill.
Maybe he was just venting that to Harbaugh.

Remember him mouthing off at the Saints after his TD run last year? Brother Smith’s got a little brimstone in the furnace.

Hey i had feeling a big day was coming for the offense, I started Alex over Shaub, Vernon over Tony Gonzales (he had more points tho) and Crabs picked up off waivers, for fantasy football, first year playing I had to pick some 9ERS just wouldnt feel right if I didnt. I won this week too!

That is funny, especially with the child-like handwriting.

    STACK THAT BOX!

  5. Neal says:

BS claims that AS is better than Joe Montana and if AS played with Joe’s teams, he would of won multiple super bowls. So put that is your pipe and smoke it Jim.
