SANTA CLARA – Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll spoke to Bay Area reporters Tuesday on a conference call. Here’s what he said.
Q: What are you impressions of your rookie QB, Russell Wilson?
CARROLL: He’s an amazing young man. He has been impressive since the first the first time we ever talked to him. Russell’s never taken a step sideways. He’s just been right on point with his identity, with his character, with his direction, with his motivation. That’s just who he is. Nothing has even begun to get him off course. He’s an amazing young man.
Q: When you first talked to him, did he sound like a typical rookie?
CARROLL: No, that’s my point. He sounds like a guy who’s been prepared for years for this. He’s been through everything and he’s precocious in every way. He’s bright and he’s clear and he’s confident – all of those things are part of his makeup and what he offers the club that he plays for. He’s so real that everybody quickly accepts him. He gets along with everybody. As we’ve started these games he continues to do cool things.
Q: How good of a blueprint did the 49ers give you in playing the 49ers?
CARROLL: Everybody’s got their own deal, their own style that they play. They did a really good job. Obviously the turnovers were the story of that game. It’s uncharacteristic for [the 49ers] to have to deal with the turnovers. Turnovers will kill any kind of effort, particularly when they happen in that kind of field position.
Q: What are you expecting from the 49ers’ offense?
CARROLL: With the running game that the 49ers have, it’s all about that run. You have stop that thing from happening. They’re a frigging machine running the football. It begins there, and then we have to think about the pass rush. It’s a two-headed monster that they present with a terrific running game, and then a passing game that has tremendous dynamics to it. They’ve really grown their system in a short time since last year. Alex is throwing everything you can think of. He’s great with the play-action stuff and great with the quick game. They get the ball down the field with all kinds of actions. [Wide receivers coach] Johnnie Morton’s in their drawing up those doggone routes, it makes it hard on us. We have a very difficult challenge.
Q: These last three games they’ve put a lot of Kaepernick stuff on film. Do you try to project for what special wrinkles they might produce Thursday night?
CARROLL: Yes, we do. That’s a big challenge in any week, especially a week that’s short. There’s a lot of complexities and things that they do. Fortunately for us, we just played Carolina and we saw one of the top running quarterbacks in the league [Cam Newton]. They have enormous running package for the QB. So we’ll try to bank off that some. They’ve definitely taken Kaepernick’s game to a new level – not just running it but throwing it as well. They even finished the game with him last week. That causes some big problems. In fact, they play both quarterback together. It gives you a Wildcat plus a guy who can throw it, and I’m talking about Kaepernick.
Q: Do you see them as being more of a threat vertically in the passing game than they were a year ago?
CARROLL: By the time they were in the playoffs they were throwing the ball all over the place. They’ve started out the season that way as well.
Q: You’ve coached against Harbaugh many times now. Is he a guy you look forward to matching wits against?
CARROLL: Anybody that does really well. The better the coaching, the better the challenge. Jim’s done a tremendous, fantastic job. You can’t do a whole lot better than he did last year. Just like last week coaching against Coach Belichick, that was a great honor and a challenge. You look forward to it. It’s fun to do that. Jim and I have had some battles and we’re going to have some more. I hope it’s a good one this week.

This game kind of parallels clashes between JH and Carroll in college. This time around it will be Carroll who’s an underdog and will be trying to knock off ‘king of the hill’. This is a statement game, a must win for the Niners. As the top dog in the division, they should pounce on the upstart wannabe’s. Go Niners.
Carroll, is setting harbaugh up ! Hope harbaugh doesn’t bite.
Most of the Seahawks key players are in their 1st, 2nd and 3rd years in the league. They had a great draft and are just begging to reach their peak. The future is so bright, I’ve got to wear shades.
beginning not begging
Hawk – Good post, terrible 80′s song. :-)
Niners will be ready tomorrow.
Their going to be begging the 49ers take it easy on them. Because the 49ers are going to crush them for the next decade going past year 2020, Pal!
Hey Sea-gal, you’re on the wrong blog buddy :)
Hawk you are correct about your draft picks! you have a great defense and bunch of very fast and physical players. With that said I hope we destroy your team tomorrow. GO NINERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSssss
23J – Pete praised your boy!
Harbaugh is gonna smash Carrol tomorrow….NINERS ALL DAY!!!!
Robert Turbin picked up 5.4 yds/att last week while Lynch only had 2.7 yds/att. The speedy Turbin and scrambling Wilson can pose some serious challenges for the Niners on Sunday. However, the Seahawks running game – overall – has been struggling the past 2 weeks (gaining only 2.8 and 3.3 yds/att). I think the Niners will be able to shut down the Seahawks and win this game by at least two scores.
After the 49er / Giant game Jimmy Johnson said, “Harbaugh is clearly getting Kaep ready to start.” If you had a guy like Rogers you don’t expedite the backup’s growth process. But when your qb is Smith, you get your backup ready. People keep saying, “Kaep’s not ready.” Horse cookies. Alex Smith’s not ready. Never has been.
When Jerry Rice didn’t give AS the best supporting comment , BS said what does he know about Quarterbacking. BS will say what does Jimmy Johnson know about AS, well perhaps between Rice and Johnson, that is 6 super bowls rings and well we know about BS, that he talks BS.
Listen we all know what HaBaugh is doing. The ones that are in denial just don’t want to see it happen.
Super Bowl rings don’t enhance your knowledge of personnel decisions that you have no part in. Of course he getting him ready to start, that is blatantly obvious… the question is when.
If you play well 2 out of 3 times you’re doing quite well as the great Bill Walsh once said. You can’t expect good\great performance every week when you have 53 players and 10-15 coaches involved, there will always be a disconnect somewhere, and sometimes you just get out played.
We should call this blog ‘Niners Overcooked’, because we break it down so hard up in here, we overcook everything, trying to place opinions inside of facts to better support our ‘own’ idea of what’s happening.
Unless Alex has multiple games in a row like the Giants game, he will finish the year as the starter, of course that’s just my opinion. And it’s not because I don’t want to see it happen, I just don’t want to see it happen this year. That would mean more struggling for the team, and I NEVER want to see that.
Bay
You in on the 49er meeting now? If not then that is your opinion not a fact.
TXT,
when have you ever seen a backup QB getting reps when an organization was happy with their starter? IN FACT, THAT QUESTION GOES TO ALL OF YOU. When have you EVER seen that?
Kaep is getting playing time for one of two reasons. First to slowly groom him getting him reps or two, to give the niners a spark because their current QB isn’t getting the job done.
Bay, that would make more sense if he were throwing the football, but he came in the first two series last week against the Giants and killed the drive by running . Not exactly looking like starting material this year or next. TBD.
Did not Miami start this wildcat offense, this is a trending scheme, much like the jumbo packages. you seem so desperate to read into every play a problem, let the season play out. If you are correct, the you will get your way, and Alex Smith is gone. But do not say that the rest of us are not fans if we do agree with you. I have been following the niners all of my life.
Miami didn’t start the wildcat, it’s a college offensive formation.
Also when Miami ran it, they ran it with a running back. Either Ronnie Brown or Ricky Williams.
They started with CK just running and now he’s chucked it up 9 times in the last two games. Sounds like slowly grooming to me.
Neal – Jerry Rice wanted Peyton Manning. So did Jim Harbaugh. Alex Smith is nobody’s number one choice….. except stupid 49er fans.
@spit
“Alex Smith is nobody’s number one choice….. except stupid 49er fans.”
So, you have finally got lots of company after so many years of being alone then.
With all due respect to Jimmy Johnson, he’s not in the 49ers offensive meetings. Playing Kaepernick in read-option-based packages isn’t necessarily done with the intent of expediting his “growth process,” but to get a certain look out of the defense. I that sense, it’s no difference in philosophy than what Roman’s been employing since he’s been in SF, but he became way too reliant on it.
Bottom line: Smith had a bad game. All QB’s have some. He entered with the league’s highest passer rating, for crying out loud.
By your rationale, the game plan was based around throwing the ball because they staff doesn’t trust Gore to run it…
BIG M,
Here is the deal, AS has had two poor games, one below average, and 3 great games. Tomorrow night will be a big night, which AS will show up. If the crappy one shows up, this will get really ugly. The Niners will do everything they can to make that not happen, with a balanced attack. We shall see.
Hi, V!
Which version spaceborn?
The one cancelled a few years ago with the gorgeous Morena Baccarin (in Homeland on Showtime by the way) and the good looking Joel Gretsch (for all those who like men)? Or the 1980′s mini-series?
LOL, DS9, just saying hello to somebody from another blog who has more accounts than you would care to count. You’ll figure it out if you watch the posts.
Remember our Ignore button discussion? He’s here!
Space
Do you mean spitblood? He got banned here before under the same name. I’ve seen him around before (here and other areas). Next to the haters here though he is a kitten. Just annoying as hell.
I find him kinda entertaining in that Laurel and Hardy slapstick way. His AS stat earlier was a gag. But the IGNORE option can be used for any reason on anybody. Gotta respect that.
lol
We all can see, what harbaugh is planning. Just a matter of time when his plan back fires on his face ( The CK experiments ) And we can all see where the 49ers gonna be heading too, but downward if he continues too.
Holy cow, don’t let your love of Alex cloud your judgement. Are you rooting against the 49ers? Or you must know more about football and evaluating talent than JH and Trent Baalke. I know you feel threatened about CK replacing your hero. But, relax and let things play out.
Nick, threatened by CK? Not worried about CK , I more worried about the 49ers if Ck is the starting Qb..Because he hasen’t showed anything with his arm. Only thing he showed is his running ability and arm strenght that is not proven.
Its not the love for A. Smith but the love for the 49er team as fan thats concerned. While the coaches experiments which is distructing the offense, anything thats going good, don’t need to fixed it. I know CK is probably your favorite over smith, and the coaches trying to give reps to CK is the wrong time. Maybe if the Niners were leading in the 4th Quarter than I can understand, they wanted to developed their young QB.
In 20 years Smith still won’t be ready, he doesn’t have an nfl skill set and he plays scared. He’s in year 8, plenty of rookies are light years ahead of this guy! For all the talk of how intelligent this guy is he’s brain dead, year 8 and they only give him two plays if he wants to audible (which when he does it’s always a run for a loss) and Luck and Griffin already get 6 plays to choose from lol.
SMH ! Where have you been dude ? I feel so sorry for your intelligents.
Who ever is the Quarterback better be ready for the Def’s in the NFC West, We may have the best but the Rams, and Cardinals are very good and the Seahawks could be phenominal! Hopefully tomorrow will be better then Sunday!
For people who say that Smith simply had a bad game, this is how I sum it up. Against weak teams, Smith looks strong. Against strong teams, Smith looks weak!!!
Like GB
Like NO
Like NY (last year regular season)
Please insert another quarter into the machine and try again.
Thank you and have a nice day.
Fact!!! Look at his career. Not 3 games. That’s hilarious.
Blah, Blah, Blah…..
55niner
(Insert any post of 23′s here and the message is the same.) Skip it, and you’ll still know it.
I thinks more specifically, you should insert against strong/weak defenses, then, alas, the statement is mostly true.
The Jets stink and smith had a god awful game against them. Against strong teams he always stinks.
I’ll deal in facts. History is not on Smith’s side Thursday night. They better come up with a hell of a game plan.
In his last two games he’s 29 for his last 46 against the Seahags for 303 yards and ZERO TD’s. So if he gets his “average”, he’ll be 14-23 with 151 yards and zero TD’s. And the Seahags defense is better this year than last year.
What the hell makes you guys have faith in this guy? Look at those numbers. They are average any way you look at them. But go ahead, you are all knowledgeable football fans….
Only way Smith does well tomorrow night is if he pulls his head out and targets Randy Moss.
Bay, if indeed that is the ulterior motive, then you better hope CK is better than AS. Nothing I’ve seen to date suggest that he is better. He has a rocket arm and is a good runner but that doesn’t equate automatically into winning, just take a look at CNewton. We’ll see how this plays out…
Hofer,
none of us has seen a thing with CK. Good or bad. We would just be going on faith in the coaching staff.
All we have to go on is JH selected him. JH declined to bring a veteran backup into camp. And JH is now giving him reps in games that are close games and not blowouts.
And what do we have to lose? Smith has not taken a step forward with a better line, and better receivers and a better grasp of the offense.
Bayarea you really are the most uneducated fan I have ever heard. Put our season at risk with an unknown? Target Moss will help us beat SEA? Are you really that slow?
What is the 49ers formula for winning the past 18 games? Once you figure that out, which I know you never will, you will have become a 100% smarter.
Bay, I have faith in JH and GR is his man, but I’ve seen some weird game planning against both the Vikes and the Giants. Then they bring in CK after they are moving the ball during the first two series and they run. What kind of play calling is that?? If CK is the future, that would be the time to throw.
Even if they are bringing in CK to slowly move him along as you suggest, the timing couldn’t be worse. AS is an intelligent guy he and any other QB would be affect and so we tank the year to get CK some snaps? Not a good plan now or anytime. In 1980 when BW did it, the team wasn’t winning and didn’t have the talent to win. This team does. Very poor decision by JH/GR. They should ride with AS and if he doesn’t do well, get CK ready during the offseason. AR seemed to do just fine without snaps during the season before becoming a starter. Interesting decisions thus far 6 games young…
In Harbaugh we trust… as long as he props up the Precious. If he threatens the Precious then Harbaugh must be fired.
Clem, you really need to flush the “precious” nonsense. If you are referring to one or two people, take it up with them. Respectfully, you are like a bad rerun.
Bay,
And what do we have to lose? Smith has not taken a step forward with a better line, and better receivers and a better grasp of the offense.
This is the kind of stuff I was talking about yesterday with you Bay, in regards to you focusing on nothing but the bad game. Before the Giant game, Smith came in ranked tops in the league in QB rating and was top 7 in YPA with a TD to Int. ratio of 8-1. Yet here you are saying Smith hasn’t taken a step forward. At least try to be honest with your assessment whether you like the guy or not. It was one game where he played poorly. Why does that erase everything else he’s done for the season?
This is why I smh at some of the comments in here. You want CK in there even though the team is SB caliber and is 4-2. There is a big difference when teams get to solely concentrate on a player instead of focusing on the fact he runs a wildcat package. Do you honestly think Kap is ready to come in, read defenses, set up protection, get the team into the right play and execute it at a level for them to get to a SB? Seriously just think about how often mid season QB switches work in regards to a team going to the SB, nevermind the woeful amount of experience Kap brings to the table.
This team came into this season thinking SB or bust. They aren’t going to throw the plan out the window after one loss to the Giants.
@ Rocket,
lets just focus on fact. Our defense, special teams which were the strength of our team last year are not performing at the all world level they were last year.
However, they are still good. If we expect to beat playoff calibur teams, then other areas have to step up.
Obvious the front office wanted more production out of the offense. That is why Moss and Manningham were brought in. Our oline which was a weakness is not a strength. All the weaknesses be they 3rd down conversions, red zone scoring, yardage are still there. So then you have to ask yourself why? Could it be because a QB that was there last year running things is still there? My answer is yes.
Question to you Rocket. Do you think Smith is getting close to his ceiling? Do you have confidence that he could beat the toughest teams and get us to the SB? I unfortunately do not.
Also Rocket, why do you think they are not just inserting CK, but increasing his role. Especially if we have a QB who is an “expert” in the offense?
Bay, when it come to the 9ers QB, you are the quintessential overreactor. You use to blame AS for the former HC’s, previous OC’s, and lack of overall talent, even though many of us said they didn’t have a plan, program or system. Now, after an outstanding 2011, you are stating that the defense and special teams are weaker and it is now only on the QB to play at an elite level each and every week to mask the deficiencies of the other units.
This is the NFL and it has been *only* 6 weeks. The SB champs last year didn’t peak until the last 2 games of the season and it carried through to the SB. Yes they have a great QB, but they lost 7 games along the way with that QB. When do you understand it’s a team sport and not one player is the reason the team wins or loses??
Bay,
Please excuse the cut and paste. I know you are not a fan of it, but the thread is getting too long and I’m too lazy to continue scrolling up to find your post to respond.
lets just focus on fact. Our defense, special teams which were the strength of our team last year are not performing at the all world level they were last year.
However, they are still good. If we expect to beat playoff calibur teams, then other areas have to step up.
The offense had stepped up though Bay. That is the point. Before the Giant game they were top ten in almost every category with the exception of overall passing yards and that was because they didn’t have nearly the attempts of the top ten teams. Smith is top ten in yards per attempt which is a far more meaningful stat to focus on. The team was one week removed from a historical offensive display. The team it came against is irrelevant as you can see by the fact there have been numerous upsets so far this year.
Bay, before Sundays game they had improved in every one of these categories. Moss hasn’t been used much, but Manningham was becoming a big factor in the offense, Crabs was a huge part of the offense and the 3rd down percentage was at 40%. The improvements were there. This is what I’m saying to you in regards to you overlooking everything positive that transpired before the Giant game.
Question to you Rocket. Do you think Smith is getting close to his ceiling? Do you have confidence that he could beat the toughest teams and get us to the SB? I unfortunately do not.
I don’t know Bay. That is my honest answer. I don’t know because I haven’t seen Smith hit a wall like he did Sunday, under Harbaugh before. If he starts playing that way regularly, then absolutely he’s hit his ceiling and the team will struggle to win if he starts turning it over. But before the Giant game, I’d seen improvement from last year, and he did beat some tough teams last season and to start this season so there was really no reason to ask that question. The question is being asked this week because he had a bad game. If I see him start to have bad games more frequently then the question becomes more relevant. Right now it isn’t.
Also Rocket, why do you think they are not just inserting CK, but increasing his role. Especially if we have a QB who is an “expert” in the offense?
I think they are enamored with the athletic ability Kap brings to the table. He gives them a prescence in the wildcat stuff that gives defenses problems. You don’t see it around the league much because there are few backup QB’s that possess CK’s skill set.
I said this before but I’ll repeat it here because it fits the subject matter: If a team wants to groom a QB to take over for the starter, then you give him the same plays and full series of plays to execute. That is not what they are doing here. Kap comes in and for the most part runs gadget plays. He has run a few out of the basic formation but he is not being asked to do what Smith is. He is coming in and using his running ability with the odd pass to keep defenses honest.
Bay there is no secret you don’t believe in Smith, and honestly, I see the point that some have in questioning whether Smith can lead this team to a Championship. What I don’t get is the focus on nothing but the bad play which under Harbaugh has been minimal, and the brushing off of the good play which has been much more frequent. I also question the logic in inserting a second year QB who is still learning the system, has taken limited reps and has shown nothing to lead us to believe he is ready for a fulltime role. At this point doing something that drastic is hope and prayer, not sound Coaching. You make a move like that when you have no other choice; not to shake up a winning team who suffered a bad loss.
Rocket, excellent posting again.
The phrase “pearls before swine comes to mind.”
I think we have faith in this guy cause we look at the win loss column, how bout you, what do you look at?
Hey double poster,
I look at the big picture. I look at our lack of production knowing our defense needs help. I look at the fact that teams are beginning to build a blue print on how to stop us offensively.
You do care about the team don’t you?
I don’t have faith in Smith, predicting from past games this season, he is going to be great, or he is going to sucked eggs.
Bay facts, not your lonely opinion son, who cares about your year and half long, nonsensical comments. Not one has come to fruition so who cares. Like your running mate, you guys are 0 for everything. Thank god your not a coach. We would never win a quarter let alone a game!
Bayareafanatic I care about winning the division, winning the conference and then winning the big salami. So I just go with whatever and whoever is undercentre and every other position the coaches put out there.
Unlike you Im not making blanket statements and exaggerartions. Your not on the 49ers staff are you?
Prime,
if there is one thing I know is coaching. Not that it matters but my 13U baseball team is power ranked #1 in Northern California. That doesn’t happen by accident.
We cut the Alex Smiths very quickly on our team…. We make the hard decisions.
Bay,
Some of us on the blog have played/coached football beyond high school, but you don’t hear us bragging about it. Wanna know why? Because it’s not relevant.
bayareafanatic says:
October 16, 2012 at 9:41 am
“I also hope that they do not bring in CK for any wild cat or to change pace. At this point, lets Smith sink or swim. If you are going to bring in CK at this point, do it because we are blowing someone out, or because he is your starter. Bringing him in to spot play is not fair to him or Smith.”
Bay, it seems you may be talking out of both sides of your mouth. SMH
LSX it is relevant, he told me I’m not a coach.
Hofer,
I meant what I said. No more wild cat. If they bring him in, it’s for a series, it’s for a quarter or a half with a game plan.
Bay, 13U is hardly relevant when discussing professional football. I’ve coached kids older much older in multiple sports. I won’t get into how good they were because it doesn’t matter here. I’m thrilled for you your team is ranked but really 13U??!
Hofer,
I thought his comment was pretty hilarious. 13U baseball, oooh wow, impressive! I’m sure that’s where all great managers got their start. So many tough decisions to be made!
13 yearsold kids versus profootball players, oh my God. That’s as pathetic analogy as your game plan against the boobirds at the Stick.
Do yourself a favor, stop talking, I’m embarrassed for you!
God you guys really are without a clue.
So bayareafanatic you are making the same level of decisions with your 13 yearold baseball club as Greg Roman and Jim Harbaugh are doing with professional football players? You are an expert because you coach 13 yearold baseball players and that level of coaching is equivalent as theirs?
Are you okay sir? Do you have a drinking problem because where you put those two scenarios as releavant to oneanother, you must be as drunk as a skunk. You were joking right?
Axel,
If there is one thing I know it’s coaching. Not that it matters but I’m the captain of my bowling team that is power ranked #1 in the neighborhood. That doesn’t happen by accident. We cut the Roy Munsons very quickly on our team….We make the hard decisions!!!
LSX, LMAO and I cannot stop. That was hilarious!
The double posters are having a blast with this thread. I don’t think Bay is comparing NFL with U13 baseball. His point was about making tough decisions. Remember a guy named Bill Walsh. He cut Hall of Fame players when they were no longer ‘productive’ by his standards – guys like Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, etc.
At some point, a decision will be made regarding this 8 year Alex Smith experiment. This may be his last hurrah. Like Bay said, sink or swim. We’ll find out soon enough.
The thing is, when your team is 4-2 and the QB was the highest ranked at his position in the league before the last game, there shouldn’t be a tough decision to make. It’s irrational to contemplate replacing somebody who was playing well and had the team winning, with a second year player with little experience and no record of success in the league, because they lost one game to a good team.
That is fan overreaction and nothing more.
Bay I’m glad your team is doing well. Good luck.
@rocket:
That is fan overreaction and nothing more.
Oh, I think there is more to it than that for some commenters – those who would rather the team fail than admit they were wrong about one player. jordan’s posts were practically orgasmic during and after the Giants’ game.
At least Spitblood had the balls to admit it. jordan doesn’t have the sack.
Rocket,
At what point do you look to make a switch? Hypothetical situation: They struggle through this series of games and find themselves at 4-5, you stick with the status quo?
If the 49ers lose these next three games in a row and Alex Smith plays poorly, Kaepernick will probably take his job.
Jack,
If they go on a losing streak and Smith is struggling throughout, then they have to do something because status quo isn’t working. The bye week would be the most sensible time to make a QB switch if they feel that is necessary.
@ Grant
But do you really think that is a possibility?
Of course if your starting QB plays bad for 4 games in a row, you may look at replacing him.
Sure, it’s a possibility. I don’t think it’s going to happen, but it’s a possibility.
Rocket/Grant,
Thanks for your takes. That is what I said a couple days ago as well, let it play out and if a change is needed do it during the bye.
Bay- That’s the only way? Come’on man, your frustrations with the QB are clouding your knowledge. You know as well as I do, that is simply not true. Lot’s of ways to skin cat or a Seachicken in this instance. DId you see that stat that when FG and KH get over 30 carries between them the Niners are 16-0. I would think heavy doses of the run with some play action and the occasional 15+ yard pass to WHOEVER is open will do just fine
Bay wants 300 yard passing games…look at last years posts, that is all he could talk about.
So tree Bay is in denial. He hates the fact the Niners are not built and play like they did under Walsh. He wants flash for his entertainmment dollars. Vertical passing, big arm QB!
Sorry Bay, not happening under JH, even with CK. Too bad so sad but hey there is good news. You have 31 other teams to chose from.
So Prime,
how will AS break out of his slump? In the last two games against the Seahawks he’s average 151 yards a game and zero TD’s.
Instead of telling me to look for another team, tell me how our current Average QB is going to improve upon those numbers…
Incorrect tree
To start the year, bay just wanted to win. Please Alex, just win, and I’ll be ok with you. Well Alex did, and bay wasn’t ok with him. The criteria it takes to satisfy bay changes when AS meets that criteria.
Then it is as if that criteria never existed in the first place. That it was always “this thing he hasn’t done yet that matters most”
You guys are insane. Harbaughs offense doesn’t throw deep, did you lunatics ever watch his stanford teams, run run run then play action deep. Honestly, in year 8 if you are still defending alex smith and his lack of talent you obviously dont know football but you should be in a mental institution.
Chris (copy cat version)
So you’re saying that our HC is in/should be in a mental institution. Because he brought Alex back twice.
Bay – “JH declined to bring a veteran backup into camp.” Did you forget so soon about your crush from this summer, JJ? You were touting him as the next great thing and he certainly was no rookie with three NFL years and a handful of starts under his belt.
Bay,
There is no question in my mind that Alex Smith is about to crap all over the field toreros just like he did last Sunday. The good QBs look forward to big tests. This kid shrinks from them. We are lacking at QB. We have been for a long time. I’m so thankful that this experiment with Smith is almost over. JH is not stupid enough to continue to hang his hat on Smith for another year. I think Smith gets benched before seasons end. Not because of bad play.
I feel like he’ll get benched because he limits what this offense can do. We can’t even effectively use all of our weApons at WR because Smith can’t get the ball to them at any point and time. Those limitations make us predictable. Good defensive teams know exactly what Smith can’t or won’t do. The giants have Smiths number. Seattle does too.
Of course you do. You want to see the team and season tank. A fan?
Let’s bring back Josh Johnson, afterall, according to 23J, he was going to be the next coming of the Messiah…..
Who cares about numbers? if Smith throws the ball well and doesn’t make mistakes, that’s all that matters so long as the team wins. I don’t care if he’s 6 for 10, 15 for 25 or 38 of 40. He can throw for 70 yards or 500 for all I care. Yes, it’s possible for a quarterback to play well without gaudy stats. Shocking I know.
I’m sure that Smith will rebound from his poor performance last week. Kaepernick has a bright future and will get his chance here or somewhere else, but it’s not his time yet. He should not be playing unless the game is out of reach.
LSX,
You’re sure?? Why are you so sure? I’m sure Smith is going to have another bad game. Here’s the bet. If smith throws for 220 yards, I’m off the blog for a week. If he doesn’t. You’re off for 2 weeks. Our defense has to pitch a shutout for us to win this game unless Kap does it. Smith is done dude.
Maybe you can ask Bay to be his assistant manager to coach the U13 team. You guys build the all world team with your football knowledge!
Buwhahahhaha!!!!!
23 trying to make bets again? Hahahaha. Maybe another prediction Josh Johnson starts week 6 for the Niners.
Dude you and Bay should take your act on the road, you guys would make millions in comedy acts! Keep it rolling boys! Joke central right here folks!
“I’m sure Smith is going to have another bad game.”
You are hoping? I have never seen a so-called fan enjoy the team’s starting QB playing poorly which affects the whole team’s success just to meet you agenda. If the team doesn’t do well, it doesn’t matter? Sad.
Hofer,
You know it’s coming. Can’t you feel that pain in the pit of your stomach. Alex Smoth is about to break your heart again. Get ready. I’m a diehard Niner fan but I’m a realist. I know Alex Smuth has reached his ceiling. You do too. You’re related to him. You have to defend him. Here comes another QB rating under 60 tomorrow. If JH wants to win this game. Smith will throw No more than 15 times. Out defense has to hold Seattle to less than 10 points. That way, we can run and beat them. We have to overpower them with our offensive line.
That secondary will embarrass Alex Smith if we get behind. We win 17-10 and the Smithers give Alex the game ball??? When it really goes to Gore and hunter. I expect Jacobs to play as well. Celek played his way off of this roster last week.
Jordo, you don’t know what’s coming! You are hoping AS does poorly period. You don’t care if it affects the teams record or season. Sad.
I agree with you 23jordan, Alex Smith is gonna have another bad game, if Harbaugh and company continues with their CK experiments. Because everytime the alex move the team going forward, they killed teh Rhythm..
“If smith throws for 220 yards, I’m off the blog for a week.”
Ah… more bets. Weren’t you supposed to be gone all ready? Permanently? Was it last year or the year before?
Stop this foolishness.
Adam, true and he says others here are full of BS!
He can’t, it would deny him the attention he so desperately is craving. What fan wants your QB to fail?
He does not think of Alex Smith as his QB. The thing is Smith could pass for 219 yards and still win or a buck fifty, who cares as long as they win.
I see the Niners running the ball a lot to slow down the SeaHawks pass rush. The last thing you are doing against them is what they tried to do against the Giants and that was abandon the run. That played right into the Giants game plan and is exactly what Pete Carroll will try to do. They hope the crowd at Candlestick gets restless. I don’t see Harbaugh making the same mistake twice.
Axel Foley – Welcome to the blog Niner brotha!
Enjoy your stay, I hope you stick around.
2 inch thick rhinoceros skin is a requirement for extended stays.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9XWSeKdOuc
23J…your obsession with the Niner QB’s is unreal….do you get any sleep, have a job, eat a meal? My God, I can’t remember a person that was so-o-o-o-o-o obsessed with something…it’s only a freaking game for chrissakes. If you drew a paycheck from the 49er’s, I could understand it, but to continually post negativity about a single player is…well, it borders on SICK..
Jordan,
You are going all in on your Alex Smith demise predictions again. This has not gone well for you in the past. I get the feeling you’d get more satisfaction out of seeing Smith crumble tonight than seeing a win, and that is really freaking sad.
I think it’s inappropriate to degrade any kid as an adult. It might not of been appropriate to bring the 13U team into the conversation, but there is a level of maturity that needs to be realized.
I don’t care if its 17U team, you don’t criticize youth.
I see it countless times on this blog by the double poster DS/Prime. Insults get flung like poop and monkeys and when the two can’t handle it anymore, it’s family, mothers, children who they attack next. Just grow up. There comes a point in an argument where you have to learn to just agree to disagree.
Sorry 23 Bay is busy making the hard decisions with his U13 girls baseball team. Game planning and coaching on the same level as the Niners coaches. You know, elite level competition.
Hey do you wanna bet with me that Alex gets another W tomorrow night? Loser vows never to return to the blog? Deal?
Buwhahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!
I’ll tell you what prime. I’ll take 23j’s bet with you. Loser stays off the blog fir a week. Either way I win cause I eliminate primescum from my life for a week. Got any balls? Smith will not throw for over 210 . I have kids on my team that could do that scumbag.
Protect your little girl QB with a bet scrum.
The bet is if Alex wins you stay off, if he does not I do? No yards, just win? Lets make it a month so you can focus on coaching your elite level u13 girls baseball team okay? Deal?
Passing yards should not matter should it? If Alex implodes the Niners will lose anyways right Bayarea fanatic? You are saying he cannot get it done, then the rest should take care of itself.
Exactly Foley, c’mon Bay lets do it! Deal, win I stay away for a month, lose bye bye Bay for a month?
Do we have a deal Bayarea?
How about you too 23? If Alex is going to crap all over the field like you say then the Niners lose right? So man up and take the bet big talker Betty Crocker!
One month, no Prime if Niners lose or no 23 and no elite level u13 girls baseball coach?
Deal?
Bay, the difference is I believe you would pay for that bet if you lost. Huge difference compared to Jordo! Bottom line.
Hof where is Bay, is he gonna take the bet? What about 23? He is so certain Alex is gonna “crap all over the field” and then said he wanted to bet LSX.
Bay piped up but no confirmation. Typical haters!
Prime I’ll tell you what, my only bet with you is a performance bet specific to Smith. I will not be on my Niners losing. That is my team and I won’t bet against them. You want to bet Alex Smith stats, I’ll do that all day. Against a tough D like the Hawks, I can predict his beefed up 190 yards and maybe one TD maybe. Plus the five sacks he’ll take making his oline look bad.
I have no problem making the bet I made. Man up. And don’t worry I’ll pay up and stay off for a week if I lose. Man up, unless you know Smith will put up his average mediocre same old stats….
So its his team, he wont beat against them, but he thinks that Smith cannot get it done. If Smith is part of the team dont you cheer for every player on that team? I’m so confused?
BSPRIME,
We know the defense and special teams can carry Smith to victories. We saw that last year while he led this pedestrian offense with his pedestrian play at QB. He got rewarded for his efforts with a game of lets go “evaluate Peyton!”
We know his game is limited. We know the defense can carry him to a win tomorrow. Its going to have to because if that defense gives up 24 points, we lose. Smith cant generate 24 points against a decent defense with his arm. We know that already by watching him this year.
So once again it about the defense holding it down and praying that Smith doesnt crap all over the field. If he starts leaking again, we just might have a new starting QB soon. In week 6, I might add.
It was my bet prime. You chose to change it because Smith can’t generate the numbers. I’m not a asking to bet Smith will put up 300, cause we know that won’t happen. I’m betting he won’t get 210. Basically terrible stats and you won’t bet. Cause you know he’s average. Its ok. If you are sticking up fir smith then have the ball’s to bet on him is all…. I know you don’t have the sac
23jordan/ Stink or Swim Smith!!!! That sounds like the biggest excuse I have ever heard. The defense wont be calling the plays in the huddle, nor handing it off or throwing it to recievers. They wont be engineering drives. The QB does that and if you think the QB cannot get it done and he really does crap all over the field, how do you win a football game?
The defense has been average, the special teams less than average. There will be pressure on Alex Smith to perform. You say Smith is not a good QB. If you are so confident in that, why not bet him?
Way to man up Prime. Now I didn’t say a month. I said a week. I’ll meet you in the middle. Two weeks.
Axel
It won’t be long now till you realize it matters not what you say to this little band. Their sole purpose is to hate. They hope the team goes down because that’ll prove them right. Ego over victory is their motto.
Prime
I made them similar bets. Like the bullies they are, they wussed out. Tough guys don’t wuss out, and they think they are tough.
DS Xilicious,
I’ve never bet you anything. And if I lose, trust me I’ll pay up.
I don’t bet with ladyboys….
What a surprise. The 49ers as a team perform poorly, and alleged fans like 23welcher and bay cannot hide their delight. Yeah, you guys are fans.
From where I sit, it looks like Freddie P. Soft set up camp in the 49ers’ locker room, and no one noticed. Man, did the team look flat and uninspired. I hope Harbaugh & Co. figure this out quickly.
By the way, the loss was partially my fault. I was traveling and missed most of the first half. Apparently, when I don’t watch the game live (NYG, Minn), the team doesn’t show up. Unfortunately, I have a meeting tonight that will cause me to miss the beginning of the game. I’ll get to a TV asap.
One month Bay, heck lets make it forever is how confident I am in Alex bouncing back. How bout you, are you that confident he won’t? Man up, I did, not its your turn?
Prime,
it’s two weeks. Take it or leave it. I said a week initially. I know you don’t care the length of time because you double post anyway. I don’t.
Hurry up and make a decision. Having to dialogue with you daily makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit each time……
Primate, you are the missing link and Smith is the weak link. Can’t wait till you are both gone…… You especially.
How about this wrinkle. Smith passes for 221, throws 3 ints, 2 pick sixes. Niners lose by 21. Never happen in a million years, but it would be like a cialis-viagra overdose to the haters. Do they really want to be off the board with that kind of situation?
Oh, I see they already took the bet. *Don’t* expect them to live up to it.
Prime,
they should do a psychological study on you. The type of angry individual that is born out of a conjugal visit. You are like the result of the study on monkeys. The one that didn’t get hugged as a child.
I’ll tell you once time, quit calling my boys baseball team girls. I know you are scum, but insulting a group of boys is below the belt even for a cancer like you.
The bet is the bet. I bet AS couldn’t throw for 210. You lowering it to 200 just shows that you have no confidence in him either. Low contribution to his team. Pathetic. Brady threw for 400 against the seahawks. Cards threw for more than 210 against them. Bradford threw for more than 210 against them. Man up big mouth. Two weeks, 210 yards. Otherwise get lose. And I mean lost in a desert somewhere without food or water.
Prime
Interesting how the big bad is negotiating a lower term of self banishment. Where is the big bad attitude of “I’ll take on anybody.”
Bullies. All the same. They actually face a real challenge, and they run away like a wuss. bay is so confident that Alex is average he promised to leave forever if he is above average. Look at what he’s doing here, and do you think he’ll really honor his word?
No matter the result of the game, this proves without a shadow of a doubt that bay isn’t as big a tough guy as he thinks he is. If he were, it would have been him to suggest the life long ban. He’ so arrogant and cocky that he is right, but he wusses down the term length, and just has to add the all important stats to it because those matter. Either way, bay loses.
:- )
X-ilicious who asked you? Since you are engaging me, why don’t we turn the focus to you Mr/Ms Sci fi?
Why are you posted on another site with a female avatar with the name X-ilicious? I take it you mean that you are delicious. Why post a female avatar and insinuate that you are delicious?
Public domain so I can ask….
Prime,
we have our bet. Now I ask you to respectfully go away. I’ve also respectfully asked you to stop insulting the boys on my baseball team. They are 13 year old boys.
I should just let you hang yourself by continuing to insult them but I can’t.
At least the rest of the room gets to see you in the same light that I do. I hope your ban is coming soon.
>>we have our bet.
So what are the final terms? The board is dying to know, we don’t want weaseling. Beyond the regular weasels, that is.
Grant,
I can go back and forth with a guy like Prime. I can take it and dish it out. When he begins calling the boys on my team names I draw the line. Please delete his posts that make those reference.
If it continues without repercussions I’ll do you all a favor and leave on my own.
You can feel however you want about me and my opinions in this room. However it is absolutely unacceptable to have the scumbag named Prime call those boys names and go unpunished.
Ha. Asking “macho” sports fans to refrain from using gender-based putdowns. I think it stinks as well but good luck with that, “coach”. That’s like asking bay to give AS any credit whatsoever.
Bay you know I coach for a living and what does it matter what gender you coach. Its coaching and its a great thing and you should be proud of it.
I dont see Prime calling any of the boys on your team names. He is just referring to them as girls. This happens in every lockeroom and playground. Its a joke, lighten up.
So Grant why you banning my comments towards Bay, he dishes it out daily and now you rescue him? Why?
Get over it Primate, who cares, is this really a big deal, do you think Grant is going to say his reasons on this blog, you have called my own kid a idiot and you have claimed to have banged my mom many many times. You have crossed the boundaries many times. And No I am not like your big sister. and go find the blogs that I have claimed you said, you know you have said them.
@ Grant:
Your delete trigger finger is getting a little itchy there, isn’t it?
Neal like Hof told you the other day, add a football value comment for once insted of playing into the drama. Like seriously, why instigate more out of everyone.
I know you dont report to me but just trying to get things back on track.
If you read my last 10 blogs they were all football related. Just showing what a low life he is.
Neal, you’ve had some good football related reads lately. I enjoyed them!
Bay,
BSPrime is a child. He’s 20 years old. Talk about wanting attention. Posting on this blog to yourself at 3:00 a.m is wanting attention. Dude has issues.
Bay,
BS is obviously a girl. We know that. She’s just a little troubled!
>>Posting on this blog to yourself at 3:00 a.m is wanting attention
Or represents “prime time” in his timezone. Don’t be so provincial, Jordo.
Well back to football.
I am expecting a better game plan so AS can play within his limitations. We will run the football, Gore and Kendall will have their touches and Akers away will be on tonight. Manningham our best receiver and Crabs will get back into their games, Randy Moss will make a couple of big plays also. Our defense will be on tonight. Although we can’t be too predictable, a couple of passes on second and first down will help. We will win tonight 24 -10.
I would love to see Ginn break a couple of returns so we can get good field position or even put points on the board, or our defense can put 7 to 10 points on the score board, I don’t see Ginn doing it, he still looks banged up to me.
23 you want any of this bet? It was originally yours so show some cajones and step up?
Neal you and any part of you is dumb. Sorry no other way to put it.
Bay you done crying to Grant threatening to leave the blog? Like anyone would care if you left?
Prime,
just like oneniner before you, you are beginning to seriously cross lines. You’ll get banned and no one will shed a tear. Well except for DS. DS who’s football knowledge is so deep that he/she said the receivers will have a hard time adjusting to CK because of his left handed throwing delivery.
Did you all catch that? Left handed throwing delivery. Wow DS, yeah you’re a niner fan for sure.
Prime obviously your stuff got deleted because you crossed lines period. Now you are crying about it. Well you have about six more hours to cry, then you are off of here for two weeks.
And to be clear, that means none of the double posting you’ve done in the past. As soon as the game is over, the two weeks begins….. Buh Bye…..
Or you will have extra time planning practice for the girls?
Primate,
BS which stands for your Big Sister is the dumbest person on the site and you are the lowest bottom feeder here, I actually feel sorry for you and your big sister. It must suck to be in your family.
Neal learn English fast
Perhaps if you were more humbled in your life Primate, you might be further alone, instead of being the insecure village idiot here. You and AS will be both be gone shortly, just a matter of time although I am sure you will bring on your 5 or 6 additional profiles.
further along
ribico
23 whoever he is now, is calling md BSPRIME. Because the one person who posts here by far and away at 3:00 AM is ninermd.
By the way, I’ve never posted at 3:00 AM. But facts are not relevant to 23. Just pure hate is.

Neal says:

“Well back to football.”
Which lasted a whole 40 minutes! A record for his sad little life. Because at 2:37, he football posts ended.
Neal. So,talking about sisters is ok for you then? Freaking stupid little fuc*.
I’m here in NY I have to deal with giant fans AS cant beat them that’s been established. If we have designes on winning a title the giants on the team we have to beat and your going to have to put up points to do it and probably at MetLife after last weeks joke
If we proclaimed that Steve Young can’t beat the Cowboys after his first 3 games against the Johnson/Aikman/Smith era, we never would have won the Super Bowl.
Chew on that for a bit.
DS,
Alex Smith is no Steve Young. Stop comparing him with HOF QBs.
Nick
Steve Young was no Steve Young for a long time either. Stop thinking he was great from the get-go and didn’t lose lots of games against very good teams (Cowboys and Packers who he lost to way more than he beat. Especially playoff games). Because you’re full of it by doing so. Stop changing history to suit your agenda. It’s bad enough when politicians do so. No need for you to take up the same notion.
NY,
You got that right. This kid Smith is done. Steve young not beating the Cowbiys had nothing up do with his performance. The rest of the team wasn’t good enough. Alex Smith is our weak link. Gotta hope NY isn’t in the playoffs.
Thank you Grant and blogmaster for creating a poll question! Hope it’s a daily or weekly occurrence.
I think given the avg number of plays Kaep has run per game so far the 15+ option might be a stretch.
C15
I’d like the next question to be:
Will this blog ever stop being focused on Alex Smith as long as he is a Niner?
Accepting bets that 100% will say No.
Grant, many thanks for the poll!
The issue I have with the poll it doesn’t take into account 4th qtr winning/losing (god forbid losing) plays. It should say, with the game on the line, how many plays does CK get against Seattle.
3+ plays
Nick, with the game on the line?
Yes Hofer. I expect them to use CK in the red zone
Nick, no mas. I expect BJacobs this week bringing some THUNDER in the RZ. Stay tuned!!! Ooh Rah!!
Nick,
If the Niners want to be effective in the red zone, they will use Kap. Smith = 3. We saw it all year last year. We’re seeing it again this year.
Hofer,
You would be happier with a FG fumble in the red zone then a CK TD. That is the truth.
Big P,
Of course he would. That’s exactly why Hofer lied and said that JH said that having Kap in the game affected the flow of the game. To think this guy is constantly talking about an agenda. He thinks nobody can see his agenda. He’s a relative of Smiths. He’s supposed to trash any QB that threatens smiths job. He’d trash Joe Montana if it meant propping Smith up.
BigP, I thought you were better than that but it seems you’ve been reading too much Jordo. See ya!
Hofer,
I regulary disagree with Jordan about Smith, and he will be the first to tell you that. I expect Smith to play better tomorrow and I have said that I don’t believe CK is ready to start. You have been consistently negative towards CK and I am tired of it. It’s about being positive with CK, it has nothing to do with Smith.
BigP,
That is absolutely FALSE! I said WHICH team has won consistently shuffling their QB’s especially a playoff team? If CK is the answer longer term, then let him go the route of ARodgers who did fine without being shuffled in to relieve BF. He is either the replacement of AS or he’s not. This shuffling of QB’s is not the answer for the 3rd down efficiency or the RZ problems – GR needs to establish the go to plays for the offense. Start CK now if they think it is best for the team!
Hofer,
You have been consistent in your negativity toward Kaepernick going back to the preseason.
Jack, so you call me out on CK (which isn’t true) and you don’t say a thing to Jordo. It’s ok to be negative to AS but CK is hands off. What’s your point JACK! Just being a jerk!!
excuse me, *a jerk?*
Hofer,
I don’t need to call out Jordan. He admits that he is not a fan of Smith. Show some humility and admit you don’t like Kaepernick.
Im trying to figure something out around here, why does everyone ask oneanother to admit something they dont believe or is not true? Its like LA Law around here?
Jack, why do you care so much? No one was addressing you in this string of comments were you feeling left out. I’m sure your blog needs some work…
What’s wrong Hofer? Your shipment of Super Beta Prostate not get delivered on time? Very sensitive tonight : )
Hofer,
Why do I need to say anything to Jordan? I often disagree with his stance on Smith, but at least he admits his disdain for him. He doesn’t hide his feelings behind passive aggressive comments. You are negative towards CK because he threatens Smith, and it has become more gratuitous as his playing time has increased. Rodgers replaced a HOF’er in Green Bay. CK is taking a few snaps away from Smith each game, I hope you see the difference. I have asked you this question several times and have yet to receive a response: What would the Niners record be with a middle of the road defense? I don’t want to get into a pissing match with you over it because I enjoy our conversations and you are one of the people on this blog that I like.
BigP, it’s the first time I’ve ever been called passive aggressive! LOL Regarding CK, I don’t have a feeling one way or the other because his limited play hasn’t given us enough to know what he can do if he led the offense long term. We know AS has won a big playoff game followed by a poor playoff game. My biggest beef this year has been the playcalling and the fact, again fact, that shuffling QBs has never worked in the NFL especially for a so-called playoff team. If you want to take that as my indictment of CK then you are mistaken.
I believe there are peaks and valleys during a long NFL season. Hell, even the 2011 SB champs lost seven games last year! The 9ers will make the playoffs although the record may not be as good as last year and will perform well if they start focusing on the success of core plays in the RZ without gimmicks. Good times.
Hofer,
You’re right. If Smith plays like he did Sunday, and I expect he will. Kap may not get any meaningful reps. Alex may dump us before the end of the QR. I can hear the crowd booing him weak azz now.
A fan? SMH
Of Smith??? HELL NO!
All Hof has said is Kap is not ready because he is a running QB and needs more time to develop. Just like any project QB, that’s what CK is. Let’s let him develop completely.
Jack Hofer doesn’t dislike CK. He spewed the same negativity when it ws s Troy Smith or David Car. He’s just protecting Alex. And funny part is he’ll deny it all day.
Bay, really? I don’t think too many here would prefer TSmith or DCarr over AS. Nice try though. LOL
Bay,
I didn’t like Troy Smith or David Carr either. CK is a much bigger threat to Alex than those 2, but he is not ready to be the every game starter. That will come in 2013 or 2014.
Hofer,
I’m not saying that either of those two were a threat. I’m saying that any mention of another QB coming in to potentially take Alex’s spot is met by snide negative remarks from you. Backhanded comments. Negative remarks. Remember Payton Manning????? I’ll dig up your comments if you’d like. Anyway you’ve been called out by plenty on this subject. And you NEVER admit you are wrong.
>>He spewed the same negativity when it ws s Troy Smith or David Car
Are you somehow implying he wasn’t justified in that negativity? Lol. Anybody but Alex, right haters?
Just win baby, just win!
Hear, hear! Go 9ers!!! We need a beat down against Seattle. I hope the ticket holders didn’t sell to a sea of hawk fans. ;.. (
Will you be happy with a beat down if CK scores a TD? Or will you continue your anti CK rants?
BigP, you a good dude but that’s a silly question. I’ve yet to see you question Jordo’s wishing for poor QB play which leads to a loss. Why don’t you ask him a question for once or do you want the 9er to lose!??
Hofer,
Why would you attempt to influence another man to ask me anything?? You sound like BS with that BS! You are a fool for that!
Hofer,
Big P asks you the question because your bias toward Kap is crystal clear. He doesn’t know that you are related to Alex. Tell us if he is your brother in law, your cousin, or do you work for him besides your position here as the Smith damage protection unit manager?
Jordo, you proved my point. What a tool!
Hofer and 23J are like Ali/Frazier “Thrilla in Manilla!” Lol
Hofer’s a true fan. Obviously he’d be happy if CK came in and won a game. Ridiculous question.
The only CK “rants” I’ve ever seen in the couple of years I’ve been here are the same questions most of us have: can he be a pocket passer? What about the big wind-up?
So what? At least it’s not the: “Alex smith sucks!” every single post.
I don’t want to speak for him but he and I agree on this CK rotation thing, so I will add this. It’s messing with chemistry, rhythm and most importantly, momentum. Momentum is the killer.
If you want CK in, and Grant suggested this too, great! Put him in for a series, not this ones and twos crap in the middle of a drive. Then see how it goes. But I sure as hell wouldn’t be screwing around if you’re not pretty damned sure you’re going to win.
This planned experiment last week was asinine to say the least. Win the game first, then experiment with your seconds.
Adam, thanks. You and I have history here dating back a few years and it’s always about winning first. I still question the QB shuffle due to the fact it hasn’t ever been successful. If CK can take the 9ers to the promise land then by all means, start him now.
That’s absolutely correct. Win. And if CK is ready to go, go for it.
If he’s not, quit screwing around before you blow the season on foolish science experiments.
It’s not that difficult. Walsh used to script the first 10 or 20 plays, he’d scratch the ones that weren’t working and keep running the stuff that was working. Why is that a hard thing to apply?
We saw this “run it – it might eventually work” thing from Sing and Raye. Talk about the epitome of insanity and hubris. Ditch the damned thing and get back to what won you games!
You want CK to run things? Fine, but stop the gimmicky junk and do what you know works. The rotation thing is suicide. Obviously not enough reps to make it work.
Hofer,
I don’t waste my energy questioning Jordan about his passion for Smith’s failure, I find it amusing. It is funny. I don’t want Smith to fail nor do I want the Niners to lose. This isn’t even about Smith, it’s about CK being a young and talented player that adds play making ability to this team.
But if it makes you feel better, this exchange took place after the Vikings game:
23jordan says: “He is who I’ve always said he was. Alex Smith is a game manager and a system fit. How can you lose a game by 2 touchdowns and have 150 yards passing???”
BigP says: “You sound so happy that they lost, dude.”
23jordan says: “Big P, You’ll know my happiness when we have a new starting QB. Make no mistake about it. I’m a diehard bit I know we need a WB to win a Super Bowl.”
Hofer says: “I’ve yet to see you question Jordo’s wishing for poor QB play which leads to a loss.”
Have you ever heard me wishing for bad QB play? Ever?!?! Or am I anti-Smith because I don’t gang up on Jordan over the issue?
Here are my comments after the Vikings loss:
“Ugly loss, but it was ugly all around. Nobody played well, and the coaches didn’t coach well. Trying to pin the loss on Smith or anybody else is ridiculous, this whole team was flat.”
Your response: “BigP, well said. The key is how they respond next week!”
I call it like I see it and I always have! Here Hofer, this one is on me:http://www.topnews.in/health/files/red-wine_3.jpg
BigP, that could hit the spot anytime – thanks!
I think there are a few on this site that have their game face on already! I’ve had mine on for two days now. Looking forward to the game! Good times.
Hofer,
How’d the recruiting trip go with Big P? Im still waiting on that quote from Harbaugh on Kap disturbing the rhythm of this offense??? You are so full of it. Anything close to Smith just eats you up. Kap will play tomorrow, he will continue to play and he will continue to et better until Alex Smith will suddenly be getting 5-8 plays a game. Oh thats right, he wont because there’s no need to ring Smith in to do anything Kap cant do. No need for Checkdowns!
Jordo, you really are a tool!
Here is the quote from the Monday presser for a second time. Do yourself a favor and print it, then swallow it, then digest it. Sound good!
“Is there ever a fear that by putting him in too much you disrupt the flow of the offense?”
“Yes.”
And what about you 23? Smith faces an elite defense tomorrow right? Gonna crap all over the field right?
How bout a bet? Or are you more interested in stats like Bay?
If you say all the things Smith cant do then the Niners should lose. You know, check down? C’mon let’s bet? Show some balls for once? This is a tough defense, Smith will have to throw it, that’s what good QB’s do. You say he can’t against elite defense, therefore probably not gonna win right? Man up big mouth!
Jordo,
You may express it differently then others, but I know you are a fan. I can dig that. Let’s hope the Niners start some sh$% tomorrow night, NFC West style! This one is on me.

Yeah Hofer,
I’m the tool that tightens the screws on your fake 49er fandom and your Alex Smith for president agenda. He’s a game manager and a system fit for a couple more weeks. After that, he’ll be a has been washed up #1 pick that will be thrown to the scrap heap along with the Akili Smiths, Ryan Leafs, JaMarcus Russells, all busts. The difference with Smith, he fooled you followers becasue he was so nice. 8 years because he was so nice. Thats right, I said 8 years.
Hofer, where will you go when Smith is gone next year. The dolphins dont need him anymore! NFL, not for long!
Big P,
Make mine a sprite. Never had a beer in my life! lol. My buzz is natural! Good night bro. Gonna be a great game tomorrow. I’m gonna be there too. See if I can find Md tomorrow! Pole A
Jordo, you really are entertainment for the blog as some suggest! I’ve been viewing you all wrong! LOL
You can’t even get that right, it’s Pole M!!
Jordan,
Here you go. I even busted out the superior made in Mexico Sprite as it is made with real sugar instead of corn syrup. It’s good stuff. I’m a lime Jarritos man myself, it’s the bomb with some carne asada street tacos!

Big P,
My man! Thanks bro!
Hofer,
You just made my point. JH didn’t say it happen edge, he said there is a fear that could happen. You’ve been trying to imply that JH said that it happened in that game. You said it happened, he didn’t. Nice try though Hofer.
Zoink! “CARROLL: Everybody’s got their own deal.”
DEAL! Ha.
I actually like and respect Pete Carroll. His charity work in So. Cal. was pretty well known and respected. He seems to be liked by his players (except for Taylor Mays and we see why that might have been).
It’s refreshing to hear a coach speak normally with the press, too. Harbaugh’s anti-media schtick gets old after a while. Pretty serious when he stiffs Pam Oliver on the sideline Sunday. Seemed fairly rude and unnecessary and she actually seemed offended. It’s pretty much custom that these guys will at least give the sideliner something like, “we need to do more…”
Carroll’s got style. I’ll give him that.
Here’s how tomorrow night goes. First off, Kaep will see the field, but I think he’ll do in a different role. I don’t think Kaep will be running the ball with the read option. Why? Because I wouldn’t do that anymore and Roman and Harbaugh listen to me.
The rest of the game will go like this. Leon Washington will be contained, but he will return one about 40 yards. David Akers will be called on three times, and he’ll make all three field goals.
Harbaugh and Roman will run the ball frequently on clear passing downs, attacking Irvin. Joe Staley will miss the game even though he wants to play. Alex Boone will start at LOT, with a rotation of Kilgore and Leonard Davis at ROG. Davis will start, but Kilgore will get some playing time when big, fat, old Davis gets winded.
With a patchwork line, a terrible qb and suspect special teams, the game will be a low scoring affair. It’s easy to say the game will be won and lost in the trenches, but the game will really be won and lost with the trick plays or blown coverages.
The 49ers will pound the ball with Gore and the Seahawks will go “beast mode” with Lynch. Both running backs (with a little Hunter sprinkled in there), will fight hard and wear down the defense. But Willis and Bowman just got called out by Matt Millen (who?), and it’s a home game, so I don’t see Lynch doing as well as Gore / Hunter. The key, though, will be which safety is the most disciplined. We’ve all seen Russell Wilson throwing the ball deep to Syndey Rice late in games to win big games. It’s happened multiple times. That’s setup by Lynch running the ball and getting the safety out of position. I honestly don’t think there will be much pressure on Goldson and Whitner because I think Willis and Bowman will be beasts, allowing Goldson and Whitner to play back and completely focus on the pass. If Willis and Bowman get pissed because of the comments made by Millen, the 49ers could keep Seattle under three scores – but that alone doesn’t insure an SF W.
The 49ers can’t setup the safety like Russell Wilson does with Lynch because Alex Smith can’t throw deep. So the 49ers will have to rely on what they always have – Gore, sweeps designed to “get the edge,” and trick plays designed to catch the defense off guard. Seattle will defend the “wheel routes,” and the TE “oh shoot!” play, taking away some of the gimmicks Roman likes to use.
I look for the 49ers to score via screen play – with Hunter busting a long run off a screen play. But Alex Smith is about as athletic as Rodney Dangerfield, so the screen play will have to emerge just right for Smith to complete it.
The 49ers will take Bruce Irvin and Chris Clemons out of the game by running and calling short yardage, two step drop passing plays. But Greg Roman must, HE MUST call a unique game this week. The league is catching onto Roman’s play calls and tendencies. Roman must now zig instead of zagging, and he must step outside of his comfort zone that he’s created for himself and Alex Smith. If that means Smith is asked to do more, Roman must require that of Smith even if Smith can’t execute. If that results in a lost game, so be it. If that results in the Smith lovers blaming Roman, so be it.
To a certain degree Roman pulled a Hillary Clinton last week – taking the blame for the offense. But the blame falls squarely on Alex Smith’s shoulders last week. Smith’s 3 INTs were inexcusable. The deep pass to Delanie Walker was pathetic. You don’t put that much air underneath anything when the defense is playing two safeties deep. Greg Roman can’t make those decisions for Smith. That’s not a Greg Roman mistake.
So in this game, Roman will need to step outside his own comfort zone with his play calling, asking Smith to do more. If Greg wants to take the blame for another loss, so be it. But the 49ers won’t win if it’s just Gore and Hunter. Seattle is aware that the 49ers beat the Jets by running the ball with 9 different players and racking up 245 yards on the ground with 9 runners in that game. Seattle knows that they have to stop the run – and now that means the 49ers can run 9 at ‘em if necessary. So…. like we’ve all really known all along, the game against the good teams (and Seattle is a good team) comes down to Alex Smith making plays that aren’t gimmicks.
I also could foresee Brad Seeley calling a trick play on special teams and Pete Carroll’s staff being ready for it. I hope Seeley doesn’t try a trick play.
I also hope Roman and Alex Smith are up to it. The rest of this 49er team will be. And Seattle is playing with some very real intensity. Seattle this year is SF last year. My guess? Seattle 20, SF 16

Crabs,
of course a two QB system doesn’t work. That isn’t the issue, the issue is what is the catalyst for doing it? Is it because your current QB isn’t meeting expectations, or because you have a QB with a higher ceiling on the bench and you are trying to get him real game experience.
In the examples you referenced, you had an up and coming more dynamic QB, or two QB’s that were both sub par and the coach was trying to find a spark. Either way, a two QB system does not work.
Right! The point is, it is affecting AS. He can say it is all for the team because that’s how they respond, but I’m telling you QB’s on the 32 ranked team and 1st ranked team with the elite QB wouldn’t like it and it would affect them. Crab, thanks for posting bro!!
“the issue is what is the catalyst for doing it?”
Maybe the OC isn’t dynamic enough? His playcalling has been atrocious at times and when CK has come in, it hasn’t been to throw the ball, it’s been to run the ball. Interesting timing during the games as well!
“when CK has come in, it hasn’t been to throw the ball,” Not true.
Greg Roman is a hell of a coordinator. He isn’t holding Smith back by any means. This team has won as many games as it has during the Harbaugh era because of the defense, special teams and the running game. Smith is a good fit for this current team because of it’s strengths, but I think it would be a disaster if he were asked to run a passing attack like the Packers, Saints or Patriots do. Harbaugh’s support for Smith is always brought up and I believe that Harbaugh really likes him, but I also believe that the offensive play calling is directly related to the staff’s knowledge of Smith’s strengths and weaknesses.
BigP – I agree with you that Roman is good, but I also believe the NFL is catching up with how Roman and Harbaugh mask Alex Smith’s deficiencies.
Spit,
I agree with you 100%, which is why I said believe that the offensive play calling is directly related to the staff’s knowledge of Smith’s strengths and weaknesses.
BigP,
The issue then becomes how does Roman and Harbaugh still win with Smith? There is now a book on how the 49ers use Smith. Tony Dungy said week 2, “You stop the 49ers by stopping the run.” Then the Vikings did just that (with Mike Singletary, btw), and the Giants have clearly figured us out. The first game we beat the Giants because they didn’t know what to expect. There was no book on Roman and Smith. In the second game they played us closer taking us into overtime, and in the third game they trounced us. Is it any coincidence Colin Kaepernick is getting more and more playing time?
The issue to me really is whether or not Roman and Harbaugh can keep getting creative with Smith. Can they keep designing plays that takes pressure off Smith and Gore, because you can’t just run Gore all day.
Before Harbaugh, I always said we were a one dimensional team on offense. We still are with Harbaugh; however, Harbaugh masked Smith’s weaknesses well. But no more. It’s very simple. For the 49ers to win a Super Bowl, the qb must be able to avoid the rush, throw deep, sit in the pocket and deliver thirty yards down field – completely opening up Roman’s playbook. Smith can’t do that, but Kaep might if he’s given enough time.
In my humble opinion, the longer Kaep sits on the sidelines the more our Super Bowl chances this year are in jeopardy. If Kaep came in right now, sure, he’d struggle. But he’d learn and he’d improve. Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman are faced with a decision: keep wasting our time with Alex Smith and then lose in the playoffs once again, or bite the bullet and learn how to win with Kaep right now – this season. And I’ll tell you one other thing – if they go with Kaep as the starter the answer is not the read option. The read option is nice way to get Kaep comfortable, but it’s not sustainable. Kaep’s legs are skinny. That guy is a ticking leg injury waiting to happen. You don’t run a guy, or encourage him to run, when his legs are long and skinny. That’s just an ACL tear waiting to happen. Kaep’s best chance is to be a pocket passer, learning to feel the rush, escape it and make plays down field. We all know Kaep can hand the ball off and run if necessary. The key is Kaep learning to be a pocket passer this year. If he can do that this year, the 49ers have a chance at a Super Bowl. If Harbaugh is afraid to bring in Kaep and make him the starter, the 49ers will struggle to make the playoffs. The league has caught-up to Roman and Alex Smith, and there aren’t anymore gimmicks Roman can use to protect Smith. Smith’s time as a starting NFL qb is almost over. Once Kaep unseats Smith, Smith’s a career NFL backup. It’s nice, though, for Smith that he got to enjoy a year and a half of good coaching. I hate Smith, but it is nice to see him get a brief period of time during his playing career where he gets good offensive coaching. But now the game’s up. The league has caught on (not the Jets and Vikings, but the good teams) The 49ers need to start Colin Kaepernick as soon as possible.
I meant to write, “(not the Jets and Bills….)”
Yes. The NFL needs more handoffs to invisible RB’s ASAP.
Get off the CK starting thing already. In 16 plays or so he produced nothing. He had a wide open RM standing there without a defender 5 yards near him, with a perfect throwing lane and absolutely no pressure at all, and therew it several yards over his head. It would have gained 10 yards or so. And he missed a standing target on a short -medium pass without pressure and a great throwing lane.
If he’s starting material, he did nothing to prove it. And hanging your hopes on such a player when the current player is 17-5, just proves your need to have your agenda materialize.
Spit,
Bravo! Right on point. Well said.
Spitblood,
I agree with what you said, there isn’t a perfect solution right now. Like I said, Smith is a fit with this team because of the defense, special teams and running game. Last weekend was the perfect example of what happens when those units don’t produce and Smith is forced to wing it. He had issues getting the ball to his receivers last year, and he is having issues getting the ball to his new and upgraded receiving corps this year. He depends on the running game to create play action based windows that he is comfortable throwing into. When he doesn’t have that, he either checks down or throws picks into the tighter coverage windows. That being said, I don’t think they should start CK right now. This team is capable of winning a championship. If they don’t I fully expect there to be changes after the season, whether it’s CK or a FA. Hopefully Smith can iron out the wrinkles and lead this team to a championship, I certainly hope so. He has shown improvement this year. If not, Harbaugh and Roman will either get CK ready or they will don their hoodies again and start evaluating FA QB’s at one in the morning.
BS,
That’s why I call you BS. See how you created that last post with all those lies. The pass to Moss hit his hands. He jumped ut he didnt jump as high as he could because he didnt want to get upended by a DB. One that wasn’t even there. Yards over his head. 1 yard is 3 feet BS. So you’re saying that Moss jumped 6 feet(2 yards) in the air to tip Kap’s pass???
You’re just like Hofer except you are clueless when it comes to this game. You are lost. You are BS. Now you know how you got your nickname.
How funny to see 49er fans giving props to somebody that just predicted a 20-16 win for the Seahawks.
Perhaps they’re not really fans of the 49ers.
Easily the most moronic nonsense I’ve read on this board in some time. Congrats spit.
When U gonna tell us whose going to win Grant?
I personally do not see the Seahawks, as good as they are, having a chance and ended their slump against the niners and ill tell you why here and how to bet it! Come by read rant and enjoy! http://nfllatestnews.com/nfc-west-battle-for-first/
Carroll on the 49ers offense: “Alex is throwing everything you can think of. He’s great with the play-action stuff and great with the quick game. They get the ball down the field with all kinds of actions.”
Fixed that for you, Grant.
Ribico
What else would you expect from Carroll? The truth? Of course he’s not going to say something like: “Alex Smith is a limited QB. He can be rattled with heavy pressure. After making a mistake, he crawls into his shell and is no longer effective.”
Similarly, Kaepernick’s game has not been taken to a new level either?
Rib,
after eight years I have yet to see Smith stand in a pocket, let a play develop and deliver a ball downfield.
He bails out of the pocket like he was an illegal who just heard someone yell immigration.
I want a QB that is a difference maker, not someone who protects the ball and waits for others to be difference makers.
If you think I’m being critical, I am. I know the play calling needs improvement, but I also know that this year we have real home run threats on the team and I rarely if ever see a guy take one to the house. Tough to when 90% of your attempts are underneath patterns.
Then Kaepernick comes in and he throws medium range and long passes. Tells me all I need to know. Same offense, different choice in progression. Take boy scout safety first Smith and show him the door.
>>after eight years I have yet to see Smith stand in a pocket, let a play develop and deliver a ball downfield.
That is patently false.
Prime, Bay and others do plenty to leave themselves wide open to ridicule. We don’t have to bring sexism into it.
ribico
He already does bring gender into it. Prime doesn’t have to do that. And it is never in an equal opportunity way. It is in a “you are less than me” way.

Here’s a very interesting article on the Harbaugh-Carroll history:
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/nfl-rapidreports/20589705/49ers-coach-jim-harbaugh-and-seahawks-coach-pete-carroll-have-more-than-recent-history
49ers 16, Seattle 20 – Alex Smith has another horrible game. Colin Kaepernick replaces Smith by the third quarter and isn’t very effective making Harbaugh say after the game he’s making a switch at qb and he wants Kaep to get reps with the first team all week heading into the Arizona game.
I think it will be the other way around. 49ers 23, Seahawks 16. Alex Smith will suck for the most part, CK will get one running TD, Akers will kick 3 FGs. There you have it.
Nick, what is your definition of suck as used above? Play the way he did the first five games or play the way he did against the NYG’s??! What do you mean exactly? You can use facts of stats to promote your use of the word suck.
Sounds ugly Nick. I hope As does not sucked but he plays like the stockmarket, one game he sucks and another he plays wells. Will the real AS please stand up.
Hofer,
Against the Seattle secondary, I think Alex will struggle. They play press man coverage. The receivers will get jammed at the line and their routes will get disrupted. If Seattle’s pass rush stays on pace, they’ll get about 3 sacks and some hurries. Given last week’s performance, Alex will be extra careful with the ball. Also, GR and JH will call an ultra conservative game plan. All this will add to abysmal passing numbers. I certainly hope that I’m wrong. I also hope that the Niner offense does enough to win this game.
Neal
The stock market analogy is interesting. After 8 years, you’d expect some decent return on your investment, would you? I compare Alex more to a roller coaster – because you know its going up and them coming down (in a hurry), and so on.
Nick you say “Against the Seattle secondary, I think Alex will struggle. They play press man coverage. The receivers will get jammed at the line and their routes will get disrupted”
This is what happened in the NFC championship game and why the Niners went out and got some real receivers. Gertting jammed at the line and not getting sepration, is that Alex’s fault or a WR problem?
” The receivers will get jammed at the line and their routes will get disrupted. If Seattle’s pass rush stays on pace, they’ll get about 3 sacks and some hurries. Given last week’s performance, Alex will be extra careful with the ball. Also, GR and JH will call an ultra conservative game plan. All this will add to abysmal passing numbers.”
Nick, all of that EQUATES to AS SUCKS?!! Sounds like there are many things team related you believe will contribute to low passing stats tonight, yet going back to your intial comment in this thread, you say that is the reason AS will suck?!! SMH
Hofer
So what’s your deal man? :)
I hope that I’m wrong, but I’ve seen it enough times that it makes me nervous. Alex Smith can be rattled with heavy pressure. After making a mistake, he becomes tentative and is no longer effective. There’s a good possibility of that happening tonight. The way to avoid it is with good coaching/game planning. Let’s see what GR and JH have in store tonight. Go Niners
yea Nick roller coaster is a better analogy.
Spoken like a true 49er fan….Go away…
Alex Smith is on the ropes. Tonight I’m a Seahawks fan.
Like the honesty. Last week you were a Giants fan. When the year started, a Packer fan. Just go down the schedule and you are a fan of whichever team the Niners are about to play.
Where did your troll avatar go? It suited you well.
That says it all… A true 9er fan!! Jordo feels the same way but won’t admit it!! It is about one player and its is personal.
Come to think of it spit, how did you know txtree was even talking to you? No mention of any kind of name at all.
Like I said. I like the honesty.
>>Alex Smith is on the ropes. Tonight I’m a Seahawks fan.
Just wow.
Ribico….. Alex Smith is a disease that must be cut out of the herd. I’m also rooting for gas prices to hit 9 dollars a gallon so we’re forced to find alternative sources to oil. I’m a sick, sick man.
If you are hoping that the Seahawks win, you are not a fan at all.
You are a disease that must be cut from the fanbase.
Alex Smith is on the ropes. Tonight I’m a Seahawks fan.
I stand corrected. This tops your previous moronic statement.
Spit
That’s going over board dude. No fan should be rooting against their own team. A lot of us are frustrated with the way AS plays, but I’m not one to call for his failure or root for the team to lose so that he’s replaced. Time will tell, just be patient.
Our beloved KNBR “football expert” Cossell said that Alex Smith is a 4 quarter QB (in reference to the removing AS for CK for several plays). Meaning he has to play the whole game and not just come in and out all the time. As opposed to all those 1, 2 1/2, 3 1/4 QB’s who are out there.
Does this guy think at all?
Isn’t CK also left handed? That could effect the difficulty for the receivers catching the ball. When Steve took over for Joe, Jerry said he had to get used to the spin on the ball since Joe was right-handed and Steve was left-handed. It was hard for the best ever. So, how hard is it for our playmakers to have to adapt to the back and forth between AS and CK?
“Isn’t CK also left handed?” NO.
Thanks Jack
So the WR’s still suck at making catches no matter who throws it.
DS, “So the WR’s still suck at making catches no matter who throws it.”
You think our WR’s suck?
The number of drops when considering the number of passes we attempt, you figure it out. They drop the ball a lot more than they should. They’ve all been good with what they do after they catch the ball this year. No doubt. But the actual process of catching the ball, they stink.
Thank you Jack for this short conversation. This will be my last reply in this thread. Enjoy the game tonight!
Upgraded receiving corps and now they still suck, unlike the QB that threw three picks last week. Lol, only in her world. Meanwhile, the Broncos receivers are all having career years and have already almost matched their production in six games as they had all last year. I wonder why that is.
+1 BigP
The Niners will win tonight and AS won’t have to use one of his 9 lives.
Dont put Kapaernick in the game it will disrupt alex and his 150 yard stat line. Man these cats aren’t niner fans they are smith fans, they throw the rest of the team under the bus and defend the only weak link. When alex is working as an accountant next year please leave football to men you little wimps.
At least we “alex-only” fans aren’t praying for a Seahawks victory. That, my friend, is throwing the entire team under the bus.
Chris- Aren’t you supposed to be at recess right now? There might be one guy on here doing what you described. You sound real tough [and intelligent] behind that keyboard big guy. This is NOT the Raider blog. Troll!
Chris, Where have you been? A. Smith in the last 7 weeks is among the top 7 QB rating. And have only 4 INT and has been throwing the footbal very well. If you watched the 1st quater of teh NY Giants games if I recall he was moving the offense to the giants 27 yards, until the coaches started messing with the “Rhythm.
Never heard anyhing that an offense can’t recover after their coaches knowingly disrupted the offense game with the insertion of CK in the 1st drive.. And they expect the team to recover from the coahes mistake?
