SANTA CLARA – Jim Harbaugh spoke for 20 minutes in the defensive meeting room Monday afternoon. Instead of posting the entire transcript in one blog, I’m breaking it up by theme to focus the discussion.
Here’s what Harbaugh said about the sprained middle finger on Alex Smith’s throwing hand. Smith sprained it in the fourth quarter on his final pass attempt of the 49ers 45-3 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
HARBAUGH: It’s very much a concern. We’ll see how it is. It’s well documented how tough he is. He talks about it not being a big deal, so we’ll see.

Is there a typo in your quote or did Harbaugh really say Smith “Talks about it NOW being a big deal?” Vs. “Not”….
Good catch. It’s supposed to be “not.” I fixed it.
Harbaugh’s unspoken message to the New York Giants:
Alex Smith’s finger is in sorry shape. You had better spend twice as much time preparing for Kaepernick as you otherwise would. Make that three times as much. You know what? If I were you, I wouldn’t even bother looking at the tape of our offense when Smith is at QB. I would focus exclusively on Kaepernick. Don’t thank me now. Thank me after the game.
Alex is fine… the offense is turning into destruction machine. The Bills forced them to throw deep and 11 torched them again and again. And they still rushed for 300+ yards.
@ Claude,
first time you said something football related that was spot on.
@ bay:
I look forward to reading the same from you one day.
Claude don’t hold your breath!
Claude that is genius, although I doubt very much that the giants would in any way overlook preparing for our base offense with our regular starting QB. Hopeful thinking though and seems like just the kind of minute edge Harbaugh is always looking for.
There is no way AS is not going to be ready for this game. He played with what appeared to be a broken nose. Lets roll AS, JH, PW, JS, VF, GR, MC,VD, CR and team….. Keep on Keeping on…
