SANTA CLARA – Here’s what Jim Harbaugh said Monday afternoon about the 49ers upcoming Thursday night game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Q: What kind of challenges are there for you guys on the short turnaround?
HARBAUGH: What they are is a short week for both teams. We’ve just got to go. We’ve got to go right away starting today.
Q: Does that give you enough to time for Joe Staley to go through the things he has to go through to be ready for this game?
Q: Will you give Daniel Kilgore reps at right guard to see if he can fill that spot?
HARBAUGH: He gets reps at both center and guard.
Q: Would you stick with the way you ended the game yesterday?
HARBAUGH: I won’t reveal anything like that.
Q: What have been your impressions of the Seahawks so far?
Harbaugh: Good football team, tough football team. It will be it real football fight Thursday night. And we’ll anticipate that, and prepare for it. They’re very good, a very good football team in all phases. They play hard, they play fast, very competitive defensively. Again, really good up front. They set a high pace, set the tone, their defensive line. Linebackers are rangy and athletic, fast, outstanding safeties, corners are playing extremely well. So, ultimate challenge. They’re a good football team.
Q: Did you know much about Russell Wilson before the season started?
Harbaugh: Yeah, we knew a lot about him, yeah.
Q: Are you able to put the Giants game behind you with such a short turnaround with the Seahawks up Thursday?
Harbaugh: I think everybody handles that a little bit differently, putting a loss behind them. Some people do it as soon as they walk out of the locker room. Some take 24 hours, 48 hours, some don’t until we play the next game. It’s just that pace that we have. In the NFL, what ails you right now is a victory. So everybody treats it a little differently. But right now we have no choice. We have to get on to Seattle right quick.
Q: How did Seattle get so many sacks against Green Bay?
Harbaugh: It was talent. It was good scheme and talent. Some were just guys beating guys.

I’m a big card collector. Colin Kaepernick’s rookie card is $7.00 bucks, Aaron Rogers rookie cards is $21.00. Alex Smith’s rookie card is $3.95 just an observation.
Another measuring stick game this week for Smith. The Seachicken’s D is for real….
bay you’re kidding right. smith stunk it up sunday no arguement but you’re not really equating a players real value on their football card value…..come on man
Bay,
I’m not gonna lie. I’d trade all three Smiths for Aaron Rogers right now!
Yikes!
What are you saying Bay, that the Niners should have chose Rodgers over Smith ? Just a joke Smithers, you can’t cry over spilled milk.
Anyone else nervous about this game? I don’t have a very good feeling about their chances on Thursday against Seattle’s defense – but it could be residual from just watching the total annihilation in all three phases of the game yesterday.
Haven’t been able to purge the negativity yet….it’s like getting a sliver of garlic stuck between your teeth – sometimes it takes a minute (and a lot of floss, tooth paste, and mouth wash) to get rid of the taste!!!
The Seahawks’ two losses have come away from home at the hands of Arizona and St Louis. Two teams with good defenses, like ours. The Hawks barely beat the hapless Panthers in Carolina. We know all about their “win” against Green Bay. Field position will be important. Their punter is very good. So we will have to go on long drives. I bet GRo goes back to power offense, jumbo sets with Kilgore set up behind Leonard Davis for insurance on the few pass plays we run. When the Hawks drop their safeties into an eight man box, AS will read it, “Kill” the run and pop one over the LBs for Vernon to run down the seam into the end zone. I expect CK lined up as a WR to run a reverse along with Ginn, Williams and Manningham doing the same to keep the run sets and the Hawks D close to the LOS. Then, another shot to Crabtree or Williams coming off the slot for a TD. Gore will get his TD and we’ll win 21-9. Hope this puts all Niners fans on this blog at ease. Speedy recover Joe Staley!
I am nervous about this game too. AS has played great some games and awful in others, Akers has played great in some games and awful in others, our defense has played great in most games but a couple of bads ones too, plus our special teams are pretty sad. I would not be shocked if we got blown out or we win big. The Niners are not very consistent.
Im with u 9ergirl I’we always said that games vs a tough D worry me more than ones against “elite” ofenses. Not to mention that its a division game and we only have 3 days to rest/prepare. The seahawks secondary is a mismatch vs our WR corps not that any of them are supertalanted (save for E.Thomas) but Sherman and Browner are big physical and gave our WR trouble last year. Their front 4 are good pass rushers so we HAVE TO RUN effectively to avoid becoming 1 dimensional and feeding in to their strength (pass rush/cover D) Wilson showed that he can make a play or two we just have to hope that it wont be enough.
The only silver lining I see is that 9ers rebound well under JH and that they havnt lost back to back games (but thats a stat that never happens until it happens so not much to hang ur hat on) As confident as i ussualy am I wouldn’t put money on the 9ers this week.
Anyone want to tell me why im wrong?(and walk me back from the ledge :)
Clearly the 49ers had a bad game. I recall the horrible game they had in 1994 when they got destroyed by the Eagles…and that was one of the best 49er teams ever.
The team is 4-2…everyone needs to relax a bit. Alex Smith is fine – let’s not throw him under the team bus just yet. The 9ers will bounce back against Seattle.
jeff k yes i remeber that eagle game. it was the only game i got to go to in that super bowl season. what i remeber strongest was sitting amongst a group of season ticket holders who were booing steve young and calling for elvis grbac
That was a 40-8 whooping Randall Cunningham-Reggie White and the rest of the Eagles put on them that day, worst Niner game i’ve ever seen in person.
What I remember most was Steve Young just chewing out Seiferet for taking him out of the game. As I stated earlier, getting bitch slapped early in the season ‘can’ be a blessing in disguise, it shows you where you need the most work. They are still a very good team, maybe if we’re lucky they’ll be great by the 2nd week of FEB.
The Seahawks’ secondary is very physical and they play a lot of man coverage. They have big physical cornerbacks who are very suitable for that style of play. I think pass protection will be critical on Thursday. If Smith has little time to throw, this could turn into another ugly game.
Ray Lewis’ career may be over:

Losing Suggs hurt them, but I still thought the Ravens might go to the Super Bowl because of Lewis, Reed and an improving Flacco.
Guess it’ll be the Texans instead.
That’s sad. Hard not to like Ray Lewis, he’s one of the all-time greats on and off the field. I would hate to see his career end on an injury.
Beast on the field for sure. Hard to forget he was acquitted of murder though. Just like I never forget that Kobe was acquitted of rape or that Michael Jackson paid 21 million dollar hush money to a kid…. All of these performers are great at what they do, but I never looked at any of them the same after the news broke on any of them….
Got to agree, I think he was hoping to finish his career on a high not, with at the SB…
I forgot about that! Not about Kobe and MJ, but about RL.
Ray Lewis,
Is a great player, but a horrible human being.
Murderer. A life of celebrity and overt praise to God doesn’t make up for the fact that he took another mans life. This guy should be vilified instead of held up like a hero, he should be treated the same way OJ Simpson was before finally going to prison. It’s a shame more people aren’t aware of what this guy got away with.
Lewis is a great loss, but they might miss their best cover corner, Lardarius Webb, even more. He tore his ACL.
How many kicks has Akers missed this season? It’s 1 game with 10 remaining , Seahawks will be a challenge , but if we stay focused and RUN the ball we’ll be fine , remember most of Bradshaws yards came when game was pretty much over , Alex is not built to throw 30-40 times a game hopefully Harbaugh will get back to what won us 13 games last year
I feel really uneasy about this game. Seattle plays us tough and they are better than last year. On our side our pass rush is virtually non existant until we are 2 scores up. We have no help at all from our draft or free agency. St are clearly weaker. This year, and Alex smith still scares no one. We can lose, this is the nfl, but being blown out twice is not the sign of a balanced team. Alex needs to throw the ball to win, not to avoids int.s. even airman questioned why he was dumping the ball off when we were 3 scores down, and he is an Alex athletic supporter.
old coach,
I read this blog often and want to commend you on your insightful and intelligent posts, which are a welcome reprieve from the same old crap that we get from 23jordan and bayareafanatic who are convinced that Alex Smith is the only factor if the team loses. When Smith plays poorly, he should be held accountable just like any other position on the team, but he should also be given credit for the many times he plays well. After all, he did play a huge roll in our success both this year and especially last year. Thanks for keeping it real, it is refreshing.
ty blood the key to being part of a football blog is do’nt take anyone to seriously especially your self
Beastmode! Beastmode! Beastmode!
Smith has bustmode!
Bay,
You are almost never funny [at least not on purpose], but that was funny.
: )
At this point I don’t see any teams that on paper we aren’t capable of beating so it will just come down to which version of the team we get each week. Will it be the dreadful version we’ve seen against the Vikings/Giants or the well oiled fighting machine we’ve seen in our four victories.
Given our recent history I’d think that Seattle will have their hands full with a very motivated 49ers team, but how many games will we get before the evil twin shows up again remains to be seen.
From what I’ve read and heard from Harbaugh, I think Seattle will face a team that will be very prepared and with an excellent game plan.
It should be a fun game to watch and I suspect it will go down to the wire. I’m going to grab a few beers and catch the game on Thursday. I think a motivated 49er team will upend the Seahawks. Go Niners!
Speaking of Seattle and the West. In 1991 the Niners went 10-6, which put them at third in the division and missing the playoffs. As tough as Seattle is, what if the Niners or the Cards miss the playoffs due to the G.B. game? After the Pats couldn’t get the job done, this game is pretty huge in the big-picture.
…and yes, I’m aware Seattle wasn’t in our division in 1991, I was just drawing the parallel.
…or the Cards…
