Harbaugh: “That’s always a point of contention – why aren’t the wide receivers more involved?”

SANTA CLARA — Here’s what Jim Harbaugh said about the performance of the 49ers wide receivers against the Arizona Cardinals.

HARBAUGH: “Great game for our wide receivers. That’s always a point of contention – why aren’t the wide receivers more involved? They were very much involved during this game. The way they caught the ball, the way they ran routes, the way they blocked for each other. Whether Michael [Crabtree] had the ball or Randy [Moss] had the ball, some very aggressive downfield blocking, and some excellent runs after the catch that turned into big plays.”

One Response to Harbaugh: “That’s always a point of contention – why aren’t the wide receivers more involved?”

  1. Brodie2Washington says:

It’s only the season’s halfway point, and so far I have heard:

    “why hasn’t…

Frank Gore, Vernon Davis, Colin Kaepernick, Randy Moss, Michael Crabtree, Kendall Hunter, Brandon Jacobs, LaMichael James, Mario Manningham, A.J. Jenkins, Demarcus Dobbs, Leonard Davis and the wide receivers

… been more involved in the offense?”

The answers will continue to be:

“Defenses are taking away that player, opening things up for other players.”
“They actually are involved because they are (blocking, helping with game plans, helping with the practice squad, teaching younger players, etc.)
“It’s just roster math. We field the best combination of 47 players we think will help us win against a specific given opponent.”
“The other player at his position has more value on special teams.”
“He (the non-roster player) has had outstanding practices, is an important part of our development squad or is “working through” something.”

    The answers will never be:

“He’s hurt bad. Did you see that MRI? Almost made me barf. No way he’s going to play anytime soon.”
“We though he was good when we signed him, but he turned out to be a tomato. What a waste of cap money.”
“He’s in such bad shape, we had to call the team cardiologist… and that was just after warm ups.”
“We had no idea he was this stupid. He hasn’t absorbed even 3 pages of the playbook. We are talkin “has to pull his pants down to count to 11″ dumb. I mean, he still has no idea where to line up… and don’t even think about audibles!”
