Jim Harbaugh thrilled by A’s

SANTA CLARA – I was standing by myself in the mostly-empty 49ers locker room at lunchtime when Jim Harbaugh walked in eating a hot dog. I had my back turned and didn’t notice when he approached me.

“It’s got to be killing you to be here today,” he said.

“Why’s that?”  I asked. I didn’t know what he was talking about.

“Don’t you want to be at the A’s game?!” Harbaugh said in a firm voice.

“Here is where I want to be.”

“But they could make history today!”

I looked at him. “Jim, you could make history in the next five minutes.”

“That’s true, that’s true…” he said, and he looked away nodding, taking a few bites of his hot dog. I thought he was done but he kept going.

“Have you been following what they’re doing?” he asked.

I told him of course.

“You must have been following them your whole life, haven’t you?”

I told him yes, I’m from Oakland.

Harbaugh took another bite of his hot dog and started to walk away. “They could do it,” he yelled back at me. “They could win. They’re good enough to do it.”

He walked over to another reporter and said, “It’s got to be killing you to be here today, right?!”

The one it was killing was Harbaugh. I sure got that feeling.

AWESOME!!! He was funny on The Game yesterday too

  2. Hoferfan67 says:

Grant, it seems he was trying to be real with you. He knew you were from Oakland! Maybe he’s more personable than we think. Perhaps he’ll have BMelvin join the victory speech when he becomes available!

That’s awesome. Great visual description too – can just picture Jimmy wiping the crumbs from his face as he talks baseball, lol!

What kind of condiments on his dog?

Speaking of the A’s, where have all of these fans been most of the year?

    • ninermd says:

Whatever. Like all these giants fans have been around for years. Puhlease. Never smelt so much new cotton like I did in 2010. Wheeeeeew. But I will say Oakland fans are pathetic. Same as Giants and 49er fans. Talk about bandwagon. Now I have to fight to leave the stick. Lol

      • Hoferfan67 says:

MD, I’m glad you are enjoying the win! Congrats! I’m a Giants fan and have been for a long time. Let’s hope both teams go far…

      • ninermd says:

Hof you pull for the A’s ill pull for the gigantes. Deal?

      • Hoferfan67 says:

MD, tough for me to pull for the A’s. I met BBeane a few years ago at a Corporate annual KO and he was a great guy. He was our keynote speaker. After the speech, we met in the bar and discussed his player rating system. Great guy. I’ll try to root for the A’s but the Giants are number one!!

      • undercenter says:

Yup the Giants, Niners, Ducks, I hate to say this MD but any team in the American League sucks. But congrats to the A s and their fans, the Bay Area is doing quite well at the moment sport wise anyways. I will root for the A s unless they play the Giants in the fall classic.

      • ninermd says:

Hof I meant root until they meet. I am not a fan of both teams. Like the Bay Area residents are. Pull just till they meet in the World Series “if it happens” and then the gloves come off. I would love to see a bay bridge series 2. ;-)

Sounds like that was Jim’s opening line to whomever he met in the lockerroom! Not much of a personal attachment there!

  7. Jack Hammer says:

Sounds to me like he was politely trying to get all of you to leave. LoL! : )

  8. ninermd says:

LET’S GO OAKLAND!!!!! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW!!! What a shocking year for my two teams. Nobody thunk OAKlAND Nobody thunk the NINERS! WHHHHEEEEEEW

  9. ninermd says:

The 3rd inning was killing me today. But like the saints game last season I kept think destiny doesn’t end like this. There is no doubt their coming back. Of course the A’s hat was switched backwards like Stallone on over the top. And there you had it. The comeback! Wheeew.

      MD,

Went to the A’s game today. Can you believe it was a sellout! A real sellout!! I’m a giants fan. A’s doing it with youngsters that love the game! Priceless!

      • ninermd says:

Yeah. It sucks they have to be this far in the season doing well for 1 sellout. I hope they leave Oakland and get that stadium in San Jose.

I tried to get tickets and couldn’t. Sat in a bar in downtown SF with everyone cheering the A’s. NOW that was awesome. I’m surprised that Grant wasn’t able to capitalize on this oppty to chat with JH. He loves talking about side subjects and thought for sure Grant would jump on it. You can peel back a person talking about side subjects as he hates talking about his team. Maybe next time……….
