Live blog: 49ers vs. Bills

SAN FRANCISCO — This is the live blog for the 49ers Week 5 game against the Buffalo Bills. I’ll update this frequently with observations and analysis from the press box.

12:00 First surprise of the day: Brandon Jacobs will not play. He’s inactive. The other 49ers inactives are A.J. Jenkins, LaMichael James, Scott Tolzien, Trenton Robinson, Joe Looney and Ian Williams.

The Bills inactives: Tarvaris Jackson, Johnny White, Delano Howell, Kirk Morrison, Kraig Urbik, Cordy Glenn and Spencer Johnson.

12:15 The Bills’ defensive coordinator and assistant head coach is Dave Wannstedt. Wannstedt was hired as the Chicago Bears’ head coach in 1993, and he cut QB Jim Harbaugh after the 1993 season. Do you think Harbaugh has forgotten? Do you think he holds a grudge?

1:22 Colin Brown will start at right guard for the Bills instead of Chad Rinehart. The starter, Kraig Urbik, is injured and will not play.

1:23 The 49ers won the toss and elected to receive. Last season they almost always deferred. Do they not trust their defense as much this season?

1:25 Kyle Williams will receive the kickoff. It seems he’s taken the job of kick returner away from Ted Ginn Jr.

1:25 Williams returns the kick to the SF 14. Not a good return. Maybe Ginn should still return kicks.

1:30 On third and 1 Greg Roman calls a brilliant play – a play action deep pass to Vernon Davis – and it works, but Mike Iupati is flagged for holding. Alex Smith cannot convert third and 12, and the 49ers punt.

1:32 The 49ers force the Bills to go three-and-out on their first offensive drive. On third and 7, Ryan Fitzpatrick sailed a pass over Steve Johnson’s head. C.J. Spiller did not get any touches.

1:38 The 49ers march 79 yards in three plays: Gore up the middle for 19, Smith deep to a wide open Vernon Davis off play action for 53, and Gore up the middle for 7. Three great play calls by Greg Roman.

Then he went conservative. On second and goal from the 1, he called a Gore run up the middle. Gore got nowhere. On third and goal from the 1, Roman called another Gore run up the middle, this time with no wide receivers on the fied. Again, Gore went nowhere. Roman  needs to call better goal line plays. Frank Gore is not a good goal line back. Why not try a fade to Randy Moss or a play action pass to Vernon Davis? 3-0 Niners after Akers makes the short field goal.

1:41 Leodus McKelvin returns the kick 59 yards after Darcel McBath and Larry Grant miss tackles.

1:53 Alex Smith completes a 41-yard pass to Michael Crabtree, but it’s called back because Frank Gore was correctly flagged 15 yards for a drive-killing chop block. Bills ball at their 12 yard line with 1:30 left in the first quarter. The 49ers offense can move the ball, but they’re killing their own drives with penalties.

2:00 Fitzpatrick just threw back-to-back first down passes to close out the first quarter. The first pass was an 8-yard gain to Donald Jones, who was being covered by Carlos Rogers. The second was a 14-yard pass to Steve Johnson, who beat Tarell Brown near the sideline. It seems like Fitzpatrick has learned not to test Chris Culliver. He’s having success throwing at Rogers and Brown.

SECOND QUARTER

2:10 Ryan Lindell just made a 31-yard field goal for the Bills to tie the game 3-3. The Bills drove 80 yards easily on that drive before Ryan Fitzpatrick threw behind Donald Jones on third and 2 from the Niners’ 8 yard line. Rogers and Brown each gave up two receptions while they were in man coverage. Donte Whitner gave up a 20-yard completion to TE Scott Chandler over the middle of the field. It seems Fitzpatrick has figured out who to attack on the 49ers defense.

2:12 Mike Iupati gets flagged for a false start on first down. Then, Alex Smith hits Michael Crabtree over the middle. Crabtree gains 19 yards after the catch. Then, Alex Smith hits Kyle Williams down the right sideline with a beautiful back-shoulder pass. Williams breaks a tackle and runs it in the end zone for a 43-yard TD. 10-3 49ers with 9:54 left in the first half.

2:20 The 49ers just forced the Bills into a five-and-out. Fitzpatrick overthrew C.J. Spiller deep down the left sideline on third and five. Spiller had a step on NaVorro Bowman. 49ers’ ball at their own 3 yard line.

2:30 With a 7-point lead, Greg Roman is back to the conservative play calls, which has led to two third-and-very longs. Kendall Hunter bailed the 49ers out of the first one, rushing up the middle for 12 yards. And Alex Smith bailed them out the second time – scrambling for 24 yards.

2:33 Alex Smith has 198 passing yards in the first half. That’s a career high. His previous high was 195 against the Seahawks on December 12th, 2010.

2:36 The 49ers are in field goal territory with 50 seconds left in the half and Greg Roman gets too cute. He brings Kaepernick on the field to play wide receiver. Kaepernick runs a fly sweep to the left, gains 6 yards, gets hit, fumbles and the Bills recover. How about calling that play for someone who’s actually run it in a game?

2:42 And the Bills give the ball right back to the 49ers. Fitzpatrick completes a meaningless first down pass to Scott Chandler deep in the 49ers territory with 30 seconds left in the half. Patrick Willis stripped him and Dashon Goldson recovered at the Buffalo 28 yard line. The Bills are about as bad as the Jets. Good grief.

2:46 On the very next play, Alex Smith connects with a wide open Michael Crabtree for a 28-yard TD. 17-3 49ers. Alex Smith is 12-for-15 with 237 yards and 2 TDs. I said the Bills were about as bad as the Jets, but I was wrong. The Bills are worse. They can’t stop the run or the pass.

THIRD QUARTER

3:07 Fred Jackson gains 7 yards on the first play of the Bills drive and 4 yards on the second play, but on the third play the Bills try to pass. Fitzpatrick fakes a handoff and rolls out to the right, only to be planted on his back immediately by Ahmad Brooks for a loss of 11. The Bills punt a few plays later. 49ers’ ball at their 34 yard line.

3:15 The 49ers offense makes another TD drive look incredibly easy. After a false start on first down, Alex Smith hit Vernon Davis running a wheel route down the right sideline for a 24-yard gain. After a Joe Staley holding penalty, Smith hit Crabtree over the middle for a 10-yard gain, and on the next play Frank Gore ran up the middle for a 31-yard gain. It’s like the Bills’ defense isn’t on the field. Frank Gore jumped over the pile from 2 yards out to score. 24-3 49ers.

3:18 Coming back to the Bills for a moment, they’ve quit. And it’s the second week in a row they’ve quit. Head coach Chan Gailey should be fired.

3:21 The Bills move the ball all the way down to the 49ers’ 20 yard line on two plays: Fitzpatrick to T.J. Graham for 20 yards. Carlos Rogers was lost in coverage. And Brad Smith ran the Wild Cat for a 35 yard gain. Just when it looks like the Bills have something, Fitzpatrick throws a dead duck to Donald Jones in the end zone and Chris Culliver picks it off. 49ers’ ball at their 6 yard line with 7 minutes left in the third quarter.

3:36 The third quarter just ended and the 49ers have the ball at the Bills’ 17 yard line. The Bills can’t stop the 49ers’ rush attack, so they can’t stop anything. So Roman brings in Kaepernick to play QB. He hands off the Gore, who picks up 7 yards and a first down up the middle. Alex Smith is back in the game.

3:38 Very next play, Mario Manningham runs a quick out route, the cornerback covering him bolts to the inside, and Alex Smith hits Manningham for a 10-yard touchdown. There wasn’t a defender within five yards. 31-3. That’s a 7:48, 13-play, 94-yard drive. The Bills are an embarrassment.

3:45 The Bills offense goes three-and-out, of course.

3:46 Alex Smith and the first-string offense is still on the field up 28 points with 13 minutes left in the game.

3:56 Alex Smith overthrew Vernon Davis deep down the right sideline, but Smith followed that up with an 8-yard run and an 17-yard run on fourth and 2. Yes, Harbaugh went for it on fourth and 2 up 28 points with 10 minutes left in the game. Alex Smith finally goes to the bench. Kaepernick’s in the game at QB.

4:00 Kaepernick fakes an inside handoff and runs around the left end for an easy touchdown. The Bills didn’t even touch him until he crossed the goal line. 38-3 49ers. How can the Bills defend the read option so poorly? They practice against it every day when they face Brad Smith. Chan Gailey has got to go. This game is a fireable offense.

4:05 The semi-pro football team from Buffalo just went three-and-out against the 49ers’ second-string defense.

4:10 The 49ers just broke the franchise record for yards gained in a single game: They have 601.

4:14 I’m going down to the field. Back at you soon with grades and more.

  1. BigP says:

Looking forward to the game while the Smith cultists and Jordan cannibalize each other on the last post.

    • txtree49er says:

      LOL

    • ribico says:

Nah, just killing time. Bored watching Vick put it on the ground, Steelers repeatedly called for UR, Browns collapsing against Near York…

      • BigP says:

Vick is a turnover machine! Yikes.

      • Prime Time says:

Not a game manager, right up your alley P!

      • BigP says:

        Prim Tim,
Not true, I like a QB that plays smart and makes plays. It baffles me that with all of the new weapons on offense, the passing game is actually less effective then it was last year.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Athletic/running QB’s…either turnover machines or get dinged. SY, “learn to play from the pocket”!

      • Prime Time says:

P the offense under Harbaugh will never be explosive. If you have not figured out the formula for this offense yet, you will never understand it.
Here it is is plain English:
Run the ball, limit turnovers, play for field position, win the turnover battle, play good defense.
Harbaugh is doing exactly what Singletary said he would. It’s that simple.

      • BigP says:

        Prim,
The way you make it sound, it’s as if the QB doesn’t play a role at all.

      • Prime Time says:

He is the most integral. JH came in, evaluated the talent and decided that the system of power football in place in SF needed just a tweak or two.
Insted of revolving the offense around the QB, he revolved it aroud the strength of the personnel. Big oline, solid running backs, and a smart leader at QB who will allow himself to be coached and play within the system. Some call it diaper changing, baby sitting, hand holding. It works and produces wins. Again what else matters?

      • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

        Big P,

It’s because we still have the same facilitator! I used that word to throw prime off. He won’t know that’s that QB. Lol. Just kidding prime, I think.

      • Prime Time says:

10 minutes to kickoff 23, I’m going to be quiet and enjoy. You pop off and be bitter every play at Alex.
Lets just get a win and then I can listen to your reasoning/crying why Alex cannot do this or that next week. Enjoy the game!

  2. Razoreater says:

Alex throws for 3 Benjamins today. Ice is back and the Bills offensive line is on the rocks. Go Niners!

    • Chris says:

That was one heck of a prediction Razor. They should frame the next blog with that prediction!

  3. Brotha Tuna says:

    @ Grant
The answer to both your questions is ‘No’. Excellent historical context you mention; I wasn’t aware of that connection.

  4. Hov says:

Let go 9ers everyday all day!!!!!

  5. Brotha Tuna says:

I had lunch yesterday with a guy who’s a Saints fan. He asked, without offending me or meaning to: “Do you like Harbaugh? He’s so arrogant.” I laughed and said yes, but I was wondering if he thought Sean Payton is too, because I do.
Then this morning on ESPN Key used the term arrogant for Harbaugh, but in kind of a complimentary way. I think Jim is perceived as arrogant because he just sincerely doesn’t care what people think; 95% of the time. I just can’t account for those other rare moments when something bubbles out of his mouth in reaction to media.

    • Prime Time says:

I guarantee the haters will turn their spite towards JH soon enough because of his approach to the offense. They don’t like it and blame Alex. Soon enough their anger will move towards Jim. Just watch.

    • BigP says:

Let’s just call it what it is, he is arrogant. Harbaugh reminds me of that line from Hot Tub Time Machine: “You know how every group of friends has that one a$$hole? He’s our a$$hole.” He’s OUR coach.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

I know someone that ran into him in SC at a gas station. He said he was down to earth and they shared a laugh when his college upset Michigan when JH was QB there. He said JH had no walls up. Great guy.

      • Prime Time says:

Why is he an ahole? Cause he won’t answer the ridiculous questions he gets asked by the Bayarea media? Or is it because he has not installed an aerial passing attack offense?

      • Brotha Tuna says:

I get what Big P is saying. Vince Lombardi was kind of an aho too. Thinkin’ Buddy Ryan, Bill Parcels too.

      • txtree49er says:

        Big P.

Your on a roll, please keep it up!

      • Hoferfan67 says:

BW was also known to be curt with the media and he’s on film stating “us versus them”.

      • BigP says:

Most great coaches are ego-maniacs, it is what it is. It’s not dissing Harbaugh, I’m being honest. The guy once beamed a young girl in a co-ed baseball game for “crowding the plate.”

  6. AES* says:

A heavy dose of FG and KH. Throw in a couple of reverses to MM, and some option runs. Two to three deep shots to MM and RM. And you have a perfect formula for spanking the Bills.

Almost forgot. Throw in a couple of defensive TD’ and now it becomes a laugher.

  7. ninermd says:

Blaaahhhh. Looks like my A’s aren’t ready for the big stage yet. So lets go Niners!!!!!!! Cap my day off with a BIG W!!!! Pretty good amount of Bills fans I’ve seen today. Not tons, but enough to notice. Wheeew

  8. tkamB says:

    Thank god for that holding.

  9. Stan says:

How embarrassing..I was posting on the wrong topic..I HATE when that happens because the browers page is jumping around and you aim for the right topic..and get the old one..ya know?

  10. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

Not resigning costanzo really hurt our special teams.

  11. Stan says:

Sympathy for the devil in another movie soundtrack…they must sell cheap. You never hear a Beatle song in a movie.

  12. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

Andrew luck beats GB with 361 yards. Hood game Andrew.

  13. tkamB says:

11 to 85 is always money.

  14. BigP says:

    Nice pass! VD is unstoppable.

  15. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

Nice pass, you gotta be 10 yards open to get a deep one from smith, or be wearing #85.

  16. MontanaMan16 says:

Thats why AS starts! Great on the deep throws!

  17. ribico says:

    Not sayin’ nothin’

  18. Hoferfan67 says:

Again with 1st and 2nd down runs in the RZ!

  19. Hoferfan67 says:

    Playcalling!!!

  20. tkamB says:

Greg Roman gets way to predictable near the goal line.

  21. ninermd says:

    Wtf?????????

  22. mr rock says:

    Typical rz fail

  23. MontanaMan16 says:

Too bad our red zone play calling sucks!

  24. tkamB says:

Our special teams man. What happened.

  25. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

That’s where we needed Smith to check down , from the 1.

  26. Stan says:

Thats the bad red zone karma..biting back. Long return..

  27. Alexsmith4mvp says:

If we are going to run in the RZ why not try Dixon in the heavy package? Gore is obviously not working so if we are going to keep going to it hand it to someone else, I would even be ok seeing hunter take a shot at it

  28. Brotha Tuna says:

Roman checked down. Then Harbaugh checked down to Akers.
When they crowded the line on 1st, I wish he’d checked to a play-pass.

  29. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

    Nice pass Smith. Good protection!

  30. Hoferfan67 says:

    Penalties killing out plays!!!

  31. Hoferfan67 says:

Good use more KW!! Now we need some MM…

  32. Hoferfan67 says:

Come On!!!!!!!!!! Penalties are killing us!!!

  33. tkamB says:

We’ve lost about 80 yds of offense with those penalties.

  34. Hoferfan67 says:

MC can catch but not elusive or quick.

  35. ribico says:

We are destroying the Bills so far. We are also destroying our destroying. Once we start playing smart, it won’t be close.

  36. tkamB says:

49ers D needs to step it up.

  37. tkamB says:

Wow Rogers jump that route dont just sit there. Should have been an easy pick.

  38. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

    Penalties killing the offense!

  39. tkamB says:

    Stop. The. Penalties.

  40. undercenter says:

    This is getting crazy

  41. undercenter says:

    WTG

  42. tkamB says:

Great throw. Great play by Kyle Williams.

    • Hoferfan67 says:

More KW and MM I’ve been saying it all week!!! YES!

    • ninermd says:

Nice spot he put the throw in, but not a nice throw. That sucker was wobbling. But I love the decision of the back shoulder pass by smith. Beautiful

  43. Stan says:

THIS IS A SUPER BOWL quality team. It must be Jed.

  44. ninermd says:

No breakaway speed from MC??? I think not folks. Wooooooooooooooooooooo KW nice adjustment right in front of me. Lol nice play KW. That was a floater too, but smith is putting some nice balls up today.

  45. neal says:

Give Smith time, he looks really good.

  46. ribico says:

Bills D picking right up from last week.

  47. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

Buffalo’s defense is atrocious! If Smith can’t get 250 today, he never will!

  48. tkamB says:

    Oof great punt.

  49. tkamB says:

    Ugh penalties galore.

  50. tkamB says:

We didn’t need to get cute Roman. Come on.

  51. Hoferfan67 says:

    Running QB’s!!!!

  52. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

    Kap got cracked!!

  53. mr rock says:

    Cough cough

  54. MontanaMan16 says:

This wildcat play calling crap is CRAP!

  55. adam says:

More cute play calls. Stupid. Just play damned football.

  56. MontanaMan16 says:

    Put Kap in street clothes

    • I.P. Daily says:

      ???

    • AES* says:

It’s always a good idea to wait until the end of the game before taking shots at a player. Do you still want to rag on CK over a fumble?

It may be time to start excepting the fact that CK7 is here to stay and that he will be an intregral part of the offense.
It seems like the fumble didn’t phase Harbaugh’/Roman’ faith in him (lol).

  57. ribico says:

    COOL DOWN KAEPERNICK

  58. I.P. Daily says:

    Messy day…

  59. Mother says:

    Warm up Kaepernick, my a**

  60. tkamB says:

    Aldon Smith leveled Fitzpatrick there.

  61. Hoferfan67 says:

Run option is great in college, your in the NFL now GR!

    • Mother says:

Ironically, this game suits Tolzien’s skills more than Kaepernick’s. Alex Smith already has 237 yards passing, to go with a perfect QB rating (158.3).

  62. tkamB says:

It’s okay guys Alex Smith can’t throw deep. That didn’t happen.

  63. Hoferfan67 says:

    YEAH, the 11-15 connection!!!! WWWWHHHEEEWWWWW!

    • ribico says:

I think I saw Moss wide open, waving his arms, in the other corner. We’ll have to wait for Jordo’s review of the 22 to tell us.

  64. undercenter says:

    Smith looks very good today

  65. mr rock says:

    Unnnghhhh!!!!!

  66. Comcast says:

Can’t argue with the way Alex has played in the first half, I hope this is an indicator of things to come and not just an outlier.

  67. Hoferfan67 says:

Give this AS kid a pocket and he produces!!!

    • Crab15 says:

      Lookin good

    • ninermd says:

Crap…. Hoff. The o-line has been playing good this season. I don’t want to hear that. Truth is he’s been hearing the “not pulling the trigger” talk. Lets keep it real man.

    • adam says:

Clean pocket and clearing out the middle is something we’ve needed for a long time.

    • adam says:

Did you watch the Thursday game? NFL guys were bagging on Adam Snyder. O-line is making big strides this season. Looks really good so far today.

    • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

Smith needs everything to be perfect, including the faulty defense. Crabtree finally got 5 yards away from a defender. That makes him eligible for a throw from Smith that won’t be 5 yards over his head.

    • Hoferfan67 says:

Adam, well said! Where have you been?

    • AES* says:

Agreed Hofe. The WR’, RB’, QB’ will get all the print, but the O-line was devastating!

Holding the Bills without a TD keeps our Defense in the ‘elite’ catagory as well.

I wish we could have saved a few of these TD’ for next but this was a great game and definitely one for the records on so many levels.

One more win gives us a perfect sweep against all that New York has to offer.

  68. ninermd says:

Smiths stats???? Anyone? I can get on here but not my sports checker WTH? Lol

  69. adam says:

Beautiful. That’s what I’m talking about. Nice clean pocket, nice route, 30 yard strike. Well played.

    • Hoferfan67 says:

MC ran a great route! Finally they connected on a good play without an overthrow or a drop. Good times.

  70. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

Great pass to Crabtree. Too bad it’s against the worse defense in professional football! Rubico could’ve thrown that pass! Lol

  71. Brotha Tuna says:

All due props to Alex for taking advantage of good protection, and to the OL for providing it. Pass pro has been better than run blocking in 1st Half.

  72. ...scotch says:

Grant you run a real nice “Haye zone”!

  73. ...scotch says:

    “HATE” that is

  74. LSX says:

Alex smith suckz!!! Any decent qb would have 670 pass yards by now! Warm up kapernick!!! Cant win with smith!!!!1!!!!one!!!!!1

  75. ninermd says:

    Hoferfan67 says:
    October 7, 2012 at 2:51 pm
24 yds on the ground? Who’s CK? Oh yeah the fumble…

Not cool Hoff. Can’t say nothing to Jordan with comments like these. Would ck have your support? Lets celebrate the first half and root for a better second half. Wheeeeeew

    • Hoferfan67 says:

MD, call it straight. You can be biased toward Jordo and his negativity yet call me out!?? Not cool!!

      • ninermd says:

I’m used to Jordan. He stays consistent. You are being hypocritical. You’re better than that vato. Lol read below and think about it. Cheers

      • Hoferfan67 says:

You can get *used* to a load in your pants, but it’s not pretty or sanitary.

      • ninermd says:

Lol used* sometimes mistakes just can’t go without some criticism. Being about 13 beers behind this keyboard can get you in trouble sometimes. I did notice that AT&T works better here than Verizon did. Can you hear me now my a$$.
        Woooooooooo wheeeeew td MM

  76. Mother says:

Crabtree having a monster day too. Already 5-for-103. Career best is 6-for-122.

Vernon (82 yards) gonna get a century too.

  77. Nick says:

At this rate, Alex Smith will break the elusive 300 yard barrier. Right on

    • Mother says:

He could have gotten 299 at the half, but for a pair of nullified completions to Davis & Crabtree.

  78. Johnny Christo says:

Peyton Manning is gonna bring me a pizza in his Buick sooner than later. The guy is straight toast! Broncos need a quarterback.

  79. ninermd says:

Lol you are ALL comical. Smiths stinks for two weeks there are tiffs. Smith plays well for 2 1/2 games… There are tiffs. Can’t we all just get along and enjoy this ride? Hoff, rib, J23 and the others who disappeared last two weeks. Shake hands and hug it out. And let’s root for some consistency this season. Wheeeew! I’m out! Second half starting

    • Hoferfan67 says:

MD, what you talking about bro? I’ve been here!!!

      • ninermd says:

Comprehend mr Hoff. I never said you wasn’t here. What are you drinking today? Did you go thunderbird wine on us? Lol easy man. I’m enjoying this $hit. Running and throwing at will.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Too early. Not 5pm yet! LOL

    • ribico says:

disappeared? You are blind, dude! No wonder you can’t see anything happening on the field :)

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Because you support your QB you’re not consistent!

      • ninermd says:

Right rib…. Never said you disappeared either. Look at you two with your chest all pumped up. Starting to think with the ck jokes and attitude that you two really are smith fans only. What you can’t enjoy some humor on a great offensive day?

      • Hoferfan67 says:

MD, jeez we give Jordo a little grief and you get all sensitive. Come on Man!!? LOL

    • ribico says:

ok md, whatever you (didn’t) say.

I’m enjoying the hell out of this game (and the extra enjoyment of tweaking Jordo a little ;). If you are there in person, I’m super envious.

  80. adam says:

Nice Brooks sack. Run defense needs to tighten up. Jackson is a good back.

  81. tkamB says:

    Beautiful throw.

  82. adam says:

    Penalties! Nice floater to Davis.

  83. tkamB says:

I really like that play but not here. No need to show that play up 14 while our offense is doing well.

  84. MontanaMan16 says:

    Jeesh! Somebody steel Kap’s helmet

  85. Johnny Christo says:

Let’s get the run game going. Cut Gore and let’s have us a Hunter/James experience.

  86. BigP says:

Beautiful pass to VD, just dropped it in there.

  87. Nick says:

    Why was Gore dancing downfield?

  88. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

Smith throws for 300 yards against the division III Buffalo Bison. If we could play them 16 times. I’d call Smith elite and send him to the pro bowl! Lol

    • tkamB says:

      Step 1: Denial.

    • MontanaMan16 says:

Brady’s elite! Starting to catch on why?

    • Msclemons67 says:

Smith had a fantastic game Jordo. No excuses.

His pouting the 2nd time The Future came in was interesting though.

      • Prime Time says:

The Precious looked good you mean as what competitive warrior wants to get pulled?

Lemons, did the Bills STACK THE BOX today?

      • Msclemons67 says:

Sorry Prime, apparently I didn’t compliment your Precious enough.

To quote myself “fantastic game”. Instead of just cutting Alex when Kaep is ready the 49ers might get back the wasted 1st round pick in a trade!

      • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

I didn’t see any pouting Msc. he did play great. But is there any defense worse in this league?? Buffalo is trash.

      • AngusinCanada says:

Pouting? Ha! Someone’s pouting alright, but it isn’t Alex!

  89. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

    That Kap is electric!!!!!!!!

  90. Nick says:

    TD Gore

  91. adam says:

    Fog horn!

  92. mr rock says:

    Scream bloody gore

  93. east coast niner fan says:

alex who!!!!! this man is hitn everything. MONEY!!!!!!!!!

  94. mr rock says:

I like how they’ve clearly told akers there will be no more kickoff returns. Balls are almost reaching the crowd now

  95. Greg Mihran says:

Let’s rename the 49er WildCat to 49er WildKaep!!!!!

Go Kaepernick – we’ll see more of him in 4Q if today’s momentum keeps up. He learned a lot from today’s fumble – did you see how he held the ball at the end of that last run to the one foot line :)

    • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

Well said Greg. We don’t need Kap though. Alex has just finally turned the corner. He just needed a breakout game against the worst defense in the Mountain East Division IIII Bisons. This Smith guy is elite! Pro bowl material!

      • Greg Mihran says:

Right 23j, I agree. Alex’s mechanics have made a huge improvement over last year. They said he spent a lot of time over the summer on his throwing motion to improve accuracy and timing, especially on the long ball. And it really is beginning to show – hopefully he will break out of that ‘game manager’ perception.

      • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

        Yeah,

The Bison have been getting Mauled all season.

      • Msclemons67 says:

Let’s slow the roll a little bit. A lot of us thought the Precious had turned the corner after the Saints game and the very next week he went back to being Alexcuses.

I’m not getting burned again. Let’s see how the adequate one does next week before we get too excited.

      • Txtree49er says:

        Msc

        Really?

You can’t enjoy the win without going juvenile name calling? You used to be better then this…

      • Brotha Tuna says:

OK, Clem, but have a brewskis, bro. Three of your underachievers had good games today:
Alex + Anthony Davis + Crabs
You wanted better performances and got ‘em.
        Cheers!

  96. tkamB says:

    Chris Culliver!

  97. adam says:

Man, I was just thinking Fitzbob was looking pretty decent.

  98. Nick says:

Why is Gore not getting more touches?

    • Greg Mihran says:

This is how you extend the longevity of your #1 running back through the season and his entire career – when you’re up by 3 scores, you rotate in the back-ups.

      • Nick says:

I’m not advocating Singletary ball, but Gore’s been effective. They should mix the RBs touches.

      • Greg Mihran says:

Right Nick – and we want to see more Dixon and Miller mixed in to give them game experience – too bad the double-J’s are out (Jacobs, James).

  99. Hov says:

    Cully the champ!!!

  100. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

    We have a moss sighting.!!

    • Greg Mihran says:

Was just going to say that I’d love to see Moss catch a TD pass before Manningham grabbed it. I sense a Kaep to Moss long ball now that the 49ers have a four-score lead. Gotta love it … kinda like the old days.

    • Prime Time says:

Looks like Chan took my advice:

      STACK THAT BOX!!!!!!!!!

      Buwhahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  101. Brotha Tuna says:

    A Dix!

  102. ribico says:

    Celek! I have his jersey – #81!

  103. BigP says:

The nail is in the coffin, Buffalo’s D is terrible.

  104. MontanaMan16 says:

I said 35-0. Not far off!

  105. ninermd says:

    Well J23….. Here’s your que brotha…
    WARM UP KAP. Lol

  106. adam says:

Manningham is a keeper. Beautiful fake!

  107. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

Wideouts just need to be able to create a 10 yard cushin. Smith will hit them, now we know what being open truly means! Manningham was Alex Smuth open! Lol.

  108. Mother says:

I make it SF has 490 yards of total offense.

  109. ribico says:

Bills are wishing they were back in Gillette about now.

  110. ninermd says:

First time leaving early in a long time. This game is a wrap! Blowout early exit. I kinda like these. Lol

  111. Greg Mihran says:

Next 49er series – get ready for the 49er WildKaep offense!

  112. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

    Yes sir, warm up Kap!!

    • Prime Time says:

      STACK THAT BOX!!!!!

    • ninermd says:

Lol see J23 knows a joke and can roll. Hoff on thunderbird today and rib being a New Yorker need to lighten up a bit. Lol
You gotta give smith some love for this one J23… This is by far his best game as a pro.

      • undercenter says:

Have to agree with you MD this is Smiths best game as a pro. Even better then the Saints performance.

      • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

I vote we put Buffalo on the schedule for 15 more games this year. Smith would be elite and we win the Super Bowl! Alex Smith,( crying like T.O.) That’s my quarterback! Lol.

      • Prime Time says:

        23-STACK THAT BOX!

    • 24baybee says:

Maybe if we just ignore this bozo he will finally be man and leave like he promised.

      • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

        24Baby,

No jackazz, I’m not going anywhere. I promise I’m not. So which coward double poster are you?

      • Hoferfan67 says:

MD et al say that Jordo is consistent. Yeah, I can say after reading this comment that he is consistently rude!

      • 24baybee says:

Exactly cause you’re word is no good and as man you’re only as good as your word. You draw your own conclusion from that. Conclusion look it up

        Oh and I’m
The poster called 24baybee. The one and only. You are just a joke. And you prove it week after week.

      • Prime Time says:

        24baybee, well said!

  113. Comcast says:

I’ve been waiting for almost eight years for Alex to have a game like this. I hope he can keep it going and not regress against the Giants.

  114. I.P. Daily says:

Who’s winning, I’ve been out walking the dog? That Smith guy throwing a bunch of checkdowns? Where’s Tolzien?

  115. adam says:

    Time to rest the starters.

  116. Nick says:

Quick, someone pick up Alex for you fantasy team :)

  117. Jacktoo says:

This game must be painful for those who have spent multiple years developing their hatred of Smith. When an excellent performance is denigrated by diminishing the quality of the opponent you know that the internet try hards have lost any objectivity and are only capable of “hate” regardless of the empirical evidence.

Today’s trivia: The last 49er quarter back to pass for 300 yards? Troy Smith.

    Go Niners!

  118. Nick says:

Time to run up the score

  119. ninermd says:

Time to sit smith and the starters.

  120. ribico says:

There you go Jordo. The Alex you love, roll right, throw out of bounds. Feeling better now?

    • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

Great play to get rid of it. He’s played well against the Bison. They are clearly headed down to division V after this effort. The is clearly the worst defense in all of organized football! Lol.

  121. tkamB says:

Alex Smith’s passer rating fell from perfect to 156.3. Terrible.

  122. Big Suede says:

That last play was sooooo dangerous- I don’t get why he is playing at all during this quarter.

  123. mr rock says:

    Naked boot!

  124. BigP says:

CK can do that all day, dude is a beast.

  125. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

    Kap is warm!!!

  126. Greg Mihran says:

    WILDKAEP!!!!!!!!!!!! </b<

  127. Big Suede says:

    Another WildKaep touchdown!

  128. Comcast says:

I like this game. I have nothing to be angry about. I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a game this much.

  129. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

Gotta admit guys. He makes it look effortless!! Lol.

  130. adam says:

I have to say though, I like our Tebow better than the real thing.

  131. ribico says:

    Awesome, Kaep!

  132. MontanaMan16 says:

Did I mention I called 35 zip! We got 35 point lead…Not bad! Not bad at all.

  133. adam says:

Best offensive stats since 1961. Nice!

  134. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

550 yards in offense! Gotta hand it to those Bisons. Chan Gailey, be careful, don’t go near a New York newspaper. Stay away from all televisions. Your job is being discussed. Lol

  135. ribico says:

Next week we go for the New York trifecta!

  136. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

Chan Gailey better not be a second late for the team charter back to Buffalo! He might accidentally get left.

  137. Mother says:

Betcha Donte Whitner can’t wait to go on KNBR & make “They quit” accusations again.

    • Brotha Tuna says:

Carlos was the one who flapped his jaws on that one. I’d bet Donte is able to be more subtle in his satisfaction.
C.J. Spiller was jawing on the field early.
      Nice muscle/hustle/determination Dixon!

  138. ninermd says:

Safe to say the last two games this offense has beaten defenses into submission. Wonder how espn and others will spin it like they did with the jets. Never giving our boys any love. Wheew. Good win. A’s who???? Lol

    • BigP says:

I hope they continue to ignore us, ESPN is a joke. Dixon just mashed into the endzone!!!!!!!!!!

  139. undercenter says:

Given up 3 points in the last eight quaters not bad, not bad.

  140. BigP says:

Buffalo is not a very good team, but the Niners did exactly what they were supposed to do against a bad team-kick the crap out of them. Hopefully, this is a building block for the offense.

  141. BigP says:

For the love of Boobie Dixon!

  142. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

Dixon, running like he did as a rookie!

  143. ribico says:

I think I saw Moss pouting on the bench. Did you see that, Jordo?????!

  144. ninermd says:

San Carlos I’m here. Gotta watch the giants game with some friends. Great win today. Can’t wait to see the stats for this one. WHEEEEEEEEEW

  145. Brotha Tuna says:

Way to go Niners! You won!
Now for the rest of the week until Thursday I can say ‘We won.’

  146. undercenter says:

Wow just Wow, is all I got to say

  147. Mother says:

    Whopping 621 yards total offense.

Whew, 310 yards passing & 311 yards rushing. Balance or what?

  148. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

The buffalo bills have just been informed that they have been given permission by Rger Goodell to terminate Mario Williams contract. Mario was arrested for robbing the franchise just after the 1st half on the way to the locker room today. Mario has no bail. He will be held in custody until season’s end.

    • dannyshoe says:

Admit already! You’re not a 49er fan! Honestly, if someone else acted as childish the way you do at times you would be calling them out. Enjoy the win and learn to be quiet.

      • Neal says:

shut the shoe up, snooze on your rant

      • Prime Time says:

Neal, did you see the Bills STACK THE BOX TODAY?

      • dannyshoe/redhanddan says:

Hey Neal…very informative, very thought provoking but I really don’t give a f#$@. If people want to cynically talk trash to the team they root for then i’ll talk trash as well. If his feelings get hurt (which i doubt) then he shouldn’t have started all his rants in the first place. And who are you?!? Trying to defend someone you’ve never even met? You’re a joke.

      • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

        Dannyhadden,

I don’t give a damn about whether you think I’m a fan or not. You continue to follow. I choose to have an opinion. Shut up and go hide like you were doing the last 2 weeks while smith played like crap. Who gives a damn about what a double poster thinks. Make up your mind on a screen name clown. We here would prefer fellow posters to use one name. So we know where to direct our kindness, please choose 1.

  149. Chris says:

This game shows a few things:
    1. Alex Smith definitely hears the criticism for his inability to pull the trigger. It’s great to see him answer those critics, myself included, on the field.
    2. It’s a freaking awesome day to be a 49ers fan. Not only do they have a capable QB now, but Kaepernick is freaking awesome. The future is very bright.
    3. Hunter is going to be a great replacement for Gore when he retires. If SF wins the SB this year, I believe Gore retires this year.
    4. The bills are just as bad as we thought they were. The team is doing a great job of beating whose in front of them. A real challenge next week against the Giants- Another Schitzo team. You never know which team will take the field.
    5. All the Smith lovers will call out of the rest of the 49er fans. Regardless of that, I’ll take the call outs anytime the 49ers win.

    • ribico says:

      5. All the 49 fans will call out of the rest of the Smith haters.

      Fixed that for you, Chris.

    • Brotha Tuna says:

      Chris
I respectfully disagree with the premise behind #1. Now we’re just talking about your opinion vs mine, so it’s only that. But I disagree that AS performed better in reaction to criticism. I think it was game plan based on Bills’ recent inability to cover. Alex also was more accurate than usual, but I think his accuracy came from good protection.
      Two other points:
1/ Harbaugh said he didn’t game plan going deep too extensively, just that they executed them
2/ Dwight Clark agreed more with you than me. He didn’t think it was about public criticism, but more about natural competitiveness and job protection.

  150. Brotha Tuna says:

Sucks to be a Bison. Now they go to camp in Arizona to play a p****toff Cardinal team.

  151. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

I think it’s safe to say that the Buffalo Bills are gonna need to ” work through some things!” Lol.

    • BigP says:

This victory isn’t about the Bills, it’s about the Niners beating them. There are so many positives to take out of this game that berating the Bills only serves to take away from the positive aspects. Enjoy the victory!

    • Prime Time says:

      They should work on:

      STACKING THAT BOX!!!!!!!

      Buwhahahahahaha!!!!!!

      • Chris says:

I don’t see the point in any of your posts Prime. Are you really so bitter that you can’t enjoy a win? You keep putting all these irrelevant posts about stacking the box. Did I watch the wrong game and missed you on the field earning this win? Or were you in the press box calling the O and D?
Alex Smith pulled the trigger today. He heard the critics and answered. The critics challenged Smith to excel. He did. That’s great for every fan.

      • Prime Time says:

Chris, rookie, just mind your business ok?

      • Spaceborn says:

So if you’re new here your views aren’t revelant Prime Time? Blog snob? LMAO! How funny how you folks here treat new fans!

      • Prime Time says:

Treat Spaceborn? If your lookin to make friends and be cordial around here, you took a bad left turn pal!

      • Spaceborn says:

LOL, Prime, though new here, I’m no newbie to football blogs! And if there is one thing I know, it’s that there are no such things as friends on a blogs! I read, I watch . . . and have seen there are agendas on this blog not related to 49er football. Warning me about having friends is not a concern I really think about. Whereas, talking 49er football is. You want to label me, fine. Have fun with it, if that is what appeals to you. I know the game, played it for years.

    • Prime Time says:

Hof did the Bills stack the box today?

    • MontanaMan16 says:

They’ll have to look at the tape first!

    • rebelscum says:

      That is hillarious!

  152. DClark says:

    Flat Out Dominance!!
This team could be something very special! Playing two weak teams in the Jets and Bills the Niners have done exactly what they were supposed to do, we ground them into the dirt! 79-3 in two weeks, I might be wrong but the last time we did that was in 87′ when we pounded the Bears 41-0, the Falcons 35-7 then went one further and stomped the Rams 48-0!! Giants next up eh?! Hmmmmmmm………..

  153. ninermd says:

That was the Alex smith I saw coming this season. Keep it up, and its an automatic Super Bowl championship. Wheeew

    • Hoferfan67 says:

JH just said that KW and AS improvised on the back shoulder play – great job by both!

      • ninermd says:

It was. It happened right in front of me and I had to explain to a girl sitting in front what a back shoulder pass is. Lol you teach something new everyday. AR is so good with those throws also. Hey did you hear a cheer out of the blue today on the tv? The crowd went nuts when they showed the Packers score. Classic!

      • Hoferfan67 says:

        “I had to explain”

MD, you were the right person for the job! LOL

  154. Greg Mihran says:

Next Week is a Big Week – Chapter 2: NY Giants at SF 49ers … we want to see our 9ers dominate!

  155. ninermd says:

303 yards for smith????? Damn it looked like 500 out there today. Ill take it ANY day of the week still. So that’s 300 yards on the ground also. DAAAMN!!! This was a well balanced thuroug boooty whipping. Lets get a 3 peat score next week against another New York team. :-)

    • Jack Hammer says:

      md,

He probably lost close to 100 yards passing today to all of the penalties in the 1st half. It was total domination by the offense today.

      • ninermd says:

I know. But it still felt like a 400+ yard game with the penalties. He heard the whispers and silenced them today. Consistency is what he needs to show now. That’s ALL he has to show now.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

TBrady plays Buff and NYJ no wonder his stats are out of this world! LOL

  156. bayareafanatic says:

Just got off the plane after a weekend in Vegas. The Palazzo has the best sports book / football viewing environment on the planet. Stadium seating that actually lets you lay down. Side sections that let you sit and have your own person screens, three bars, sit down eating areas and an entire back section with more TV selections. INCREDIBLE.

I bet a three team parlay and my strongest bet was the one that let me down. Andrew Luck’s team decided to play defense and ruined my chance to make enough money to pay for my entire trip : ( Jesus Luck looks good though.
I was in the air for the 49er game. Didn’t get a chance to watch, but when I landed I looked at the score and stats. Jesus did our offense have a day or what? I’m glad the passing offense took flight. Especially against the team that gives up the most air yards and points in the NFL. This is what we are supposed to do to a team like that. Sounds like Smith connected with various WR’s today. How did his deep passes look? My son forgot to DVR for me and I haven’t seen them yet. Anyway good news all the way around awesome. Well except for my three team parlay not coming through boo.

    • BigP says:

Everybody looked good today. It was a flat-out tail kicking.

    • Prime Time says:

Just know this Bay, the Bills STACKED THE BOX!

    • bayareafanatic says:

When is the replay of the game????? Gotta look that up. Just heard Frank Gore say that he got irritated when the Bills yelled Tebow package when CK came in.
Frank said, first off, Kap is better than Tebow lol.

    • Brotha Tuna says:

      Bay
Receivers got themselves open, the OL provided xlnt protection and Alex showed exceptional touch and accuracy. We need to find out what Alex had for breakfast! : -)
I saw two different tv interviews with Crabs, and I loved ‘em. I like what he said, he seems to be drinking JH’s brew.

    • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

      Bay,

The Niners completely manhandled the Bills. The Bolls defense is twice as bad a defense as any in the entire league. Those were counterfeit Bills. Alex threw some great deep balls and the receivers were completely wide open. The o line gave Smith as much time as he wanted. He got hit maybe twice.

Kap played and toyed with the Bilks as well. He got cracked and fumbled in the red zone. He did score again from about 15 yards out. Kap threw a deep ball to VD that was a tad under thrown, the db fell, and VD dropped it, flat out. The Niners got called for holding on the play anyway. Kap threw a 5 yard out to Williams as well. Smith threw a back shoulder fade to Williams for a TD. Crabtree had a 35 yard TD finally on a deep corner. He beat his guy by 5 -7 yards. If smith misses Crabtree there, Crabs would’ve been on suicide watch. Crabtree and VD had 100 yards receiving. Gore had over 100. Dixon ran like a monster. Scored from about 8 yards out. Kap played most of the 4th.
Alex got x-rays after the game. Mario Williams almost Zbroke Smiths leg on a hit while Smuth was throwing. II guess heard about the x rays on the radio. They assumed he was okay.

  157. adam says:

Grant, blocking the camera. Down in front! :p

  158. adam says:

Good question on the runs, Grant.

    • Grant Cohn says:

      Thank you.

      • Adam says:

Roman gave a more detailed answer than I thought he would. Got a bit in to the chess match.

I get a little irked with all the cute stuff (and then the conservative plays at either end-zone) but Roman seems to be pretty sharp. Also, an infinitely better interview than his boss, it seems.

  159. Razoreater says:

    Great Win San Francisco!

  160. 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

Just heard on the post game show that Smith had x rays after the game. Sounded as if they were negative. Mario Williams almost broke his leg.

    • michael says:

was on a finger on his non throwing hand. was negative

      • TIM says:

It was on his throwing hand(the middle finger sprained). X-rays were negative.
(according to all the beat writers. Apparently JH got it wrong in his after the game press conf and said it was his non throwing hand.).

  161. Brotha Tuna says:

Got to love this team. Alex and Crabs are already talking about the Giants!
    “Unfinished business” indeed. Ooh-RAH!!!

  162. TIM says:

Alex had a GREAT game, the best game of his career imho ! If not for a few penalties he would have nearly 300 yards at the half. The key to those yards for the most part is that he is being decisive and throwing on target,so that the receivers can get run after the catch without needing to wait for the ball or reach up or back for the ball, they catch it in stride and keep rolling !
Crabs is money and Williams and Hunter look really good.
They should have activated Jacobs, they probably would have powered that first drive into the end zone too .Or the way Dixon is looking he might have made that yard. (but then Akers might not have kept his record breaking streak alive ?).
Again,Alex was really on today !!! I hope this is a portent of things to come for him and not just that the Bills suck on pass coverage and Alex’s receivers were wide open all day long. But Alex was THE man today and it made me glad to see it,it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy !
(see ,I told you I would praise Alex to high Heaven if he deserved it,and he certainly deserves it today, big time !)

Key was the outstanding pass blocking by the OL. Their best to date!

      • Adam says:

Agreed 100%. The receivers clearing out the middle of the field didn’t hurt either.

I was watching part of the Thursday night game and NFL guys were talking about Adam Snyder’s lack of contribution. Sounds like we were smart to let him.

      • Adam says:

        *let him go*

…For the first time in over 50 years the Niners had a QB who threw over 300 yards and a RB who gained over 100 yards and TWO receivers who went over 100 yards each !!!
And the QB (ALEX SMITH !!!),had a PERFECT QB rating for the game !!!
More credit from me,where credit is due ! Great game Alex, now go do that again against a good defense next week !

    • Grumpy Guy says:

According to Eric Branch, it was the FIRST TIME in NFL HISTORY that a team had 300+ yards passing AND 300+ rushing on offense.

This was one of the all-time greatest displays of offensive football, EVER.

      Utterly awesome.

“24 yds on the ground? Who’s CK? Oh yeah the fumble…”

    @Hofe
Let’s see, last week it was the missed bomb to R.Moss. This week I guess it’s going to be the fumble.

Funny how many here take flak for only focusing on AS’ mistakes, but have no problems focusing on CK7.’

Here’s a few words of advise: Get used to seeing CK7 throughout the season!

    • Hoferfan67 says:

AES, with AS doing well and the RBs doing well I didn’t see a need for CK. If he comes in and gets injured it’s not a good thing. The fumble was bad. Looks like his running is part of the playbook. So it’s all good!

      • AES* says:

Like I said last week Hofe; AS is not going anywhere! AS is our undisputed starter, and the coaching staff would look like complete idiots (especially after today) to start CK7 over him.

I think most of us have forgotten that Harbaugh said over the summer that he would be inserting CK7 in this season to add a new wrinkle to the offense.

Don’t you feel that every opposing team now needs to plan for another dimension and element with CK7 in the line-up?
        Of course they do.

While some here want to snip at CK7, maybe the target of their ire should be directed at Harbaugh.

Yes I agree, we could have won without CK7 today. Just like we would have probably won without using the double reverse the Jumbo backfield or even Alex throwing for over 300 yrds. But if you have the weapons why not use them?

But the biggest question may be; Why are we ripping on the weapons we so clamored for last year?
        Makes no sense…

      • Jack Hammer says:

        Hofer,

I agree with you on the CK thing. Not a big fan of the sweep things that they were running with him. Running some plays as a QB is fine but I don’t see how putting him out there as a WR helps him to develop as a QB.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Jack, thanks. I’m not the negative nellie some think I am when it comes to Kap. I don’t want to see the kid get injured on running plays when we are eating up yardage with FG and KH. If they want to get him valuable time in the 4th qtr of a lead or god forbid AS is injured, I’m all in. I don’t believe AR came in for run the option when BF was the QB in GB and it seems AR has done just fine. I just think it is overkill.

    • BigP says:

Dude, who cares? CK is part of the team, and has more production per snap than just about anybody else. If hofer wants to take shots at him, it’s because he feels threatened by CK’s presence. He should be thankful that there is somebody pushing Smith to step his game up.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

BigP, AS got hurt today. Last year when it wasn’t necessary, JMorg was hurt when CK was passing to him in a game that was already in hand. It seems to me that the 9ers could have used JMorg in the NYG Championship game?!! You see it as you wish. Must been reading too much Jordo lately I guess!

  166. Razoreater says:

The World Champion Giants are coming to town. You can bet that the 49ers will give them their best game.

  167. cUSwin! says:

Great game! Best all around performance of the year to date! Alex was on point today. I think we all know he is most comfortable at home. Gore being gore. Defense was lights out. Every week we can get a little better though. Go Niners!!!

  168. Grumpy Guy says:

Per a tweet by Eric Branch, it was the FIRST TIME in NFL HISTORY that a team had 300+ yards passing AND 300+ rushing on offense.

AND we had about a hundred yards in penalties taken away, mostly early in the game.

IMHO, this is one of the most dominating performances by a team in NFL history.

  169. Nick says:

Dave Wannstedt needs to be fired

  170. I.P. Daily says:

Niners beat on a team until they give up. That’s what is happening. It’s not that the Jets or Bills are so bad, it’s that the Niners are so good. Main thing is strength and conditioning. The Niners have that in spades…

  171. Comcast says:

I’ll be the first to admit, I have been an Alex hater since he was drafted. I believe it was a bad pick (I still do but set that aside for the moment) but if he can play like this CONSISTENTLY, perhaps he can yet have a decent career. If he can’t, well, that speaks for himself.

This is as good as I’ve felt about a Niner game since the ’03 playoff game against the Giants.

If Alex really has broken through, the 49ers will be great for a while. If he has not, and this is an outlier, I will be back to hating in short order.
