Whitner on Fitzpatrick: “He’s going to take the good with the bad – touchdowns and interceptions.”

SANTA CLARA – Donte Whitner spoke in the media tent Wednesday afternoon. He broke down the Bills quarterback – Ryan Fitzpatrick. Whitner discussed the keys to defending the Bills’ offensive playmakers. And Whitner explained why he knew Colin Kaepernick would play against the Jets. Here’s a transcript.

Q: Who’s the guy the defense needs to watch against the Bills?

WHITNER: In this game it’s Steve Johnson, No.13. He was there (in Buffalo) when I was there. He rose up through the practice squad, really worked himself into the player he is today. When I was there I was a couple lockers down from him. I know how hard he’s worked to get to his level of play. We will have to know where he is each and every play.

Q: The Bills have two good running backs: C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson. How do you defend them?

WHITNER: They’re both two fast, elusive guys. Fred Jackson, he’s arguably one of their best players on offense. He’s a guy who likes to get in the screen game – he has excellent hands and he can break a lot of tackles. C.J. Spiller, he’s a speed guy. He doesn’t really want to go in through the tackles and through the middle of the defense, he’s a guy who wants to bounce outside and use his speed.

Q: Does this offense look the same as when you left two years ago?

WHITNER: It looks the same. They have [Ryan] Fitz[patrick] back there. He’s a gun slinger. He’s going to take the good with the bad – touchdowns and interceptions. Then you have guys on the outside like Stevie Johnson and Donald Jones. Actually they’re going to try to feature Jones in the slot.

Q: Did you guys on defense know what kind of role Colin Kaepernick was going to play against the Jets?

WHITNER: No, but it’s a funny thing, I actually told [Harbaugh] at breakfast in Youngstown – just having normal conversation. I told him, “You know, New York does a lot of Wild Cat with Tebow. I’ve seen our Wild Cat in practice. Are we going to run it?” He was like, “Oh, I don’t know. I don’t know.” I was like, “I bet you run and I bet you score a touchdown.” And he comes out and he was actually supposed to score two touchdowns. And now you gives defenses something to prepare for during the week, and that will take their focus off the stuff they’re not preparing for. It’s a good thing for our offense.

Q: Colin Kaepernick ran the Wild Cat in practice last week?

WHITNER: We were preparing for Tebow and he was actually playing Tebow. And he was looking good. He’s really a fast guy – 4.3, low-4.4 guy legit. I just had a feeling he would get out there and that our coach would want to show our Wild Cat on a national stage.

  1. DS94everXev says:

Gunslingers don’t have any need for life insurance. And against our defense, no need for a college savings plan.

  2. Nick says:

It will be hard to contain all of Buffalo’s weapons – especially with a healthy CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson. However, Fitzpatrick is prone to make mistakes. I think our front 7 will make life miserable for him and he’ll caugh up a couple of picks.

  3. Mood_Indigo says:

The Niners’ D will have another outstanding game, and the offense will be competent. Niners will win by two scores or more.

On a different note, when I watched the last series by the Giants in their loss to the Eagles (and described well by Mike Tanier here: http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/39300856/) it seems to me that the Niners’ coaching staff would never call such a boneheaded series of plays that moves the ball out of field goal range at the end of the game.

  4. DS94everXev says:

Any chance that Whitner’s idea helped push the idea of putting CK on the field?

    • Jacktoo says:

      No.

    • ribico says:

I think the odds are very good on exactly that.

Of course, that would conflict with the “Alex can’t/won’t make that pass” narrative taken as gospel by the usual disciples.

      • DS94everXev says:

There is one fact that they can’t ignore though. The Niners weren’t stuck with AS after the 2010 or 2011 season. They could have gone with CK or anybody else. They didn’t. The Niners have the best record in the NFL since 2010.

Had the Niners really felt CK is ready, he’s the starter, and saved about $8 million a year for the next 3 years. That could have been used to sign Bowman to a new contract. Using PW contract as a model of what it will cost to keep Bowman, his salary averaged out to $7.85 million over the 5 year contract (and I’m sure the $11 million year in 2015 he’s expected to negotiate that down when the time comes).

Hmmm. Exactly what they paid AS.
        http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/patrick-willis/

So, going off the financials, the Niners value AS just as much as they do PW, or Bowman (assuming/hoping we keep him). If you think they don’t value AS, you must conclude they don’t value PE. Which is of course, a flat out lie.

And if anybody comes back to “market price for a QB is higher” then that is because the QB has a greater impact on games. And AS is right on top of that the last 2 years.

      • bayareafanatic says:

        DS,
let me explain something to you little fella. There were no other QB’s other than Manning that they were interested in.
While they had an offer on the table for Smith for months, it was a low offer and a series of one year contracts. Tells me they don’t value him much. While they wanted him here because CK wasn’t quite ready, they were prepared to let him walk.

Those are the facts. JH can call him “clutch” and “an expert” in our system but if that were truly the case then why start mixing in CK in the redzone? Because Smith’s not getting it done.
Before you point to his QB rating which is bogus, I’ll point to his yards, scoring with anyone beyond VD, 3rd down conversions and red zone numbers. They are below average. Not what you want on a team that has super bowl aspirations.

      • Prime Time says:

Manning, Smith, Bay, broken record dude, Smith’s here and winning games. You and 23 welcher=
        YAKETY, YAK, YAKETY YAK!

      • Bayareafanatic says:

It’s relevant. Smiths play and Harbaughs inserting of CK in the redzone make it relevant.

      • DS94everXev says:

        bay

Well at least you got my name right.
        :- )

And if there weren’t any other QB’s they weren’t interested in this whole TB/JH period (I’m not sure that is true, but who cares) then that means that AS is pretty darn good. Conclusion: He’s your QB. Better get used to it.

Do you really in your heart of hearts bay think that the Niners were remotely interested in PM at the price he got from Denver? That would have meant losing just about everybody who hit the FA market. For a guy who wasn’t a part of this team. Doesn’t seem like a good idea when you’ve(JH) been preaching team this whole time.

If they were interested in PM, it was an interest similar to that of RM. Sign you for dirt cheap. If you’re interested, you will compete for the job with AS/CK/ST. If your bank account and ego can’t handle that, we don’t need you. And we don’t. For all the money Denver paid, they have beaten the same two teams who they beat without PM last year. No real difference at all in the most important category so far. The W-L column.

  6. Razoreater says:

Put me down for guessing Alex Smith gets his 300yds through the air this week against the Bills weak secondary.

    • 23jordan/ WARM UP KAEPERNICK says:

      Razor,

It’s not in Smiths DNA. I respect the optimism. The run game will dominate. Smith is in the backdrop now. His role will continue to shrink as Kap’s grows, in my opinion. That is best for this offense and team going forward. I want Kap to show the doubters that he’s capable of running this team. Because if he can, then he gives us the best chance to win a Super Bowl.

    • ribico says:

Put me down that he will *not* get 300, we crush the Bills nontheless and it’s another week of blog meltdown.

      • AES* says:

        @ribico

I honestly don’t care for 300 yds passing games if there is a WIN attached to it (lol).

I’m not one who preaches that AS needs to throw for 300 yrds. If he can throw for a buck-fifty and get a win I’m completely fine with that.

Our offensive system does not encourage 300 yrd + plus type games. That is our identity, and so far it’s worked quite well.

My only concern with AS is that he doesn’t seem willing to take a shot downfield for fear that he will not connect or risk an INT.

Harbaugh needs to let AS know that he has total autonomy to make the long throw without the threat of consequence.

  7. Houston 9er says:

This game againt the Bills scares me. They have some real weapons on offense and their defense can be very good at times, notwhithstanding their collapse last week. When the Bills are on their game, like Mitt was last night, they can beat anybody. It will be important for the 49ers to set the tone early with some smashmouth defense and some scoring drives on offense. The Bills need to be taken down early to avoid their ability to get into a rhythm.

    • Nick says:

      Houston,

Last week, New England was able to gash the Bills (by running and passing) by spreading the Bills out and getting them into nickel with an up-tempo offense. I think the Niners might try to do the same this Sunday – so it will come down to how Alex Smith plays (he’s nowhere near the QB Brady is, but let’s hope he’s better than he was last week). I expect the Bills to stack the box and try to stop the run. Stacking the box may also force the Niners to keep VD in to block. The Bills are very susceptible to giving up big plays to tight ends – last week Gronkowski went off on them for 104 yards. VD – if used properly – can duplicate that.

    • Jack Hammer says:

      Houston,

Check out these numbers on the Bills defense, and remember the opponents, Jets, Chiefs, Browns, Patriots.

      http://ninerchatter.blogspot.com/

    • Houston 9ers says:

Hey guys I know the numbers on the Bills. They are susceptible to extremely poor play. They are also capable of playing extremely well. They are up and down and all over the place. They have the ability to beat any team and they could also lose to teams like the Jets. My only point is that the 9ers can not take this one lightly. They need to start this game like they think it’s the Superbowl and cause the Bills some doubt from the beginning. If the 9ers can get the Bills backpedaling early then it could be a huge blowout win for the good guys. If they take this team lightly then they are dangerous and they can beat the 9ers.

    • ribico says:

Houston, if the Bills are anything like Mitt was last night, they will repudiate everything they’ve tried to do thus far this season, leaving everyone confused to what kind of team they are. Either that, or they will try to please everyone, all the time. Unfortunately, since they are playing in SF, that means coughing the ball up to the delight of the home fans.

Our defense will confuse Fitz, look for him to throw multiple picks early.

      • Houston 9er says:

The Bills are more like Obama I think. They’ll probably try lies, deceipt, obfuscation, and twisting the truth to confuse people about what the 9ers (Mitt) have been saying and doing for a year which has never once changed. No matter how much the Bills try their deceiptful tactics they won’t win. Just like Obama, they may fool some of the people like you, but they won’t be able to convince anyone who sees that their actions don’t match their words.

      • 49erGirl says:

“Just like Obama, they may fool some of the people like you, but they won’t be able to convince anyone who sees that their actions don’t match their words.”

It’s all up to them. Unlike them, I keep my promises. I’ve been assuming they are joking this whole time. Because it is sad if they aren’t. You call people by their given names. Don’t have to like them to do that. The fact they don’t, I think they are joking. So am I then.

    @DS
Obviously, your world is tied around this blog. We see it with the amount of posts and the replies to almost everyone here.
Now you are resorting to the unwritten rule of involving and pulling in family members.
You know that name is something we all (well most of us) have done over the years.
    Dumbarse
    Stupid
    Flip-flop
    Welcher
    BS
Are some that have been used by many around here.
No harm, no foul. It comes with the territory.
Pulling in family members is completely out of order.

So be careful, your mother may be next. And yes, it’s about time that BSexevrd123 be banned. Shes nothing but a Crabtree hater and A Smith apologist drama queen. Ban Bs, Ban Bs, Ban Bs.

It is an unwritten rule to refer to people as their given name. Especially if unprovoked. I didn’t even mention anybody.

AES, if you really care about the unwritten rule about not involving family members, then this decision is a no-brainer. Tell them to stop with the BS name. If that is too difficult a thing for you to do, then that proves you don’t really hold that rule above all else.

This is the time for you to decide AES. Do you tell others to not change names (you by the way hate the flip-flopper name) in order to maintain this rule about family members.

      “A very interesting ethical question.”

    @23J

We’ve been cool more often then not. So hopefully you are not offended by this. I don’t think there’s any need to goad DS at this point.
DS has crossed the line by pulling in a family member. I won’t get better if you continue to goad, so what’s the point?
    Just move on bud.

    • AES says:

      *It* won’t get better

      AES

You never apologized for anything you said. If you think you’re any better, you aren’t. Unless you were joking. Then so am I. All depends on how you want to read it.

Or the name changing can stop, and we’ll never need to know if it was a joke or not.

      • AES* says:

I never felt I had to apologize because name-calling has become the norm around here. I never asked you to apologize for calling me flip-flopper because I never deemed it offensive.
So I think we can all agree that name-calling is par for the course in these parts.

What we should NOT agree to is pulling in family members. That includes: Moms, Dads, Children and extended family members.

DS, you crossed the line plain and simple. And the fact that you are now trying to spin around it shows your inability to be repentent and take accountability for your mistakes.

        Good bye, sir

      • DS94everXev says:

        AES

So name-calling is bad. But it is ok, because it has always been that way here. Sorry, where I come from , there is no logic behind that statement. If something is bad, you don’t just accept it. You do somethinng to make it better.

Neither is there any logic behind the theory that it is ok to hate on forigners, nationalities, genders which involves hating pretty much everybody except yourself. But if you make a comment about a single mom, that is bad. You do know that forigners have mothers, right? So if you say you hate them, then you are hating on ALL their moms. To me, that is far worse. But if you disagree with this simple premise, it is goodbye.

You seem inclined to not improve your surroundings. Even though I’ve seen you go off on those who do change your name. Yes. You did. You staed that I can’t call you that name. So, obviously it did offend you at some level.

It isn’t that hard really. All we have to do is agree to go by the stated name and not bring in family. Any namecalling just gets added to the list of words that will prevent your post from being posted, and people will just have to decide if they want to change their attitude and address people accordingly, or write material that won’t show up.

        Seems pretty easy to me.

    • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

        @ DS:

Way, way, way over the line. You should stop.

And please don’t try to tell me that calling out someone’s dead mother is the equivalent of using the wrong made-up online screen name. That’s just not a rational argument. The two are not similar.

      • DS94everXev says:

People have insulted whole races. Those are composed of lots of moms. The female gender in fact has been insulted more than once. That includes ALL moms. So how is commenting on 1 mom not ok? If the reply to 1 mom is that you can’t do it, then there needs to be an appropriate reply to hating on other races (composed of lots of moms) and the whole female gender. There isn’t though. So how is commentimg on 1 bad?

Simple solution. Stop the namecall, stops the mom comments. And don’t tell me the namecalling adds anything to the discussion. It doesn’t. Decision time. If people can’t keep it professional, don’t complain about the level of un-professionalism. Might be best to not even go that route to begin with. Respect the name at the very least. If you think a blog is a place to debate/discuss football, please show me a place where any real debate happens where those involved call one another names. And of course, they don’t insult moms. The presidential debate was on. Those 2 don’t care deeply for one another. But they show their respect for one another at least by calling each onther their actual names.

Has it occurred to anyone in the years this blog has existed that people have been throwing jabs at those who have recently lost a dear friend/family member? Chances are more than one of us have been cussed at during a loss, and perhaps more than once. And his posts have taken a turn since that point. He rarely called names before. Now it is his default reply. Had my mother died, I’d be honoring her love by showing respect for all. Not by doing as he’s done. This blog isn’t an outlet for his depression/anger/sadness/hate. He has no right to use the blog in this fashion.

      • Medic One says:

      • claude balls says:

But they show their respect for one another at least by calling each onther their actual names.

DS94everXev is not your actual name.

Calling you by the wrong made up name is not equivalent to telling someone that his dead mother is in Hell. If you cannot see the difference, then I don’t know what else to say to you.

And stop with the “people have insulted entire races and that includes a lot of moms” nonsense. None of those moms were jordan’s. An insult to a nonspecific, faceless group of millions of people is not the same as singling out a specific person for insult, particularly when that person is someone loved and fondly remembered by the recipient of the insult. Your comments were unacceptable precisely because of how intensely personal and specific they were.

By continuing to argue this, you are only making it worse. The stink will stay with you for a long time.

It isn’t the mom only insults that need to go. People have to show some basic level of respect for others. The name is the most obvious/easy thing. It is a good start.

How about an all 22 breakdown (calling it straight of course) along the lines of GCosell?!! You could focus on the top 10 misses, drops, and executed plays each week. Thoughts?

      • claude balls says:

        @ Jack:

I am going Rams, but that is probably just wishful thinking. The Cardinals’ defense looks even better than last year.

That said, if Finnegan can provoke Fitzgerald into (1) pulling off his helmet and beating Finnegan with it, and (2) then clubbing the first official who tries to stop him, then I think the Rams can take it.

      • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

        Prime,

look at your 12:49 post. That is called backhanded. On the one hand you say this blog would be better equippedmto talk football if I weren’t here. Why would you say that? Only because I don’t support the Niners starting QB. That’s a fact Prime. You don’t agree with my position about the QB.
There are several posters that don’t agree. Theynjust express their position differently. I express mines a bit more aggressively. But I still don’t take shots at you for it. I speak about smith.( My opinion) you can dispute that.
BS is wrong, no matter what you or I say. He has to live with that.
I do talk football. You just don’t agree with what I speak about. I don’t tell you not to be critical of Crabtree. If I disagree, I tell you why. You throw out insults because I don’t support smith like you do. If you don’t agree with me, you can say why.

      • DS94everXev says:

So the namecalling is acceptable to you? You’ve been broken.

Put a stop to it if it is wrong. Stop justifying it because its always been that way. Sad, sad, sad way of thinking. You’re comfortable in this muck. Sad you don’t anything better.

      • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

        BS,

I’m fine with the name calling now, you better be as well. Try a dose of your own medication. Message Prime, Claude, FDM, LSX, Ribico, and tell them all that we’re using screen names now. Yeah, good luck with that.
I have no problem being called the welcher. Look, it’s in my screen name again. You should get used to BS. So yeah I’m fine with calling you BS. I told you why. Yore fine with bringing in relatives. You can’t unring the bell. You’ve said it and I’ve read it. Carry on BS!

      • 49erGirl says:

Stop bringing 23J’s mom into this. Clearly you have no close family of your own or you might actually stand a chance of comprehending how awful your comments are towards someone who has lost their mom – which you are aware of since it was a topic of conversation around here when it happened. Your behavior and comments are absolutely friggin’ disgusting.

Apologize to the man and move on.

      • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

        BS,

Got anything football to talk about? You usually have about 25 posts glorifying Alex Smith by now and 5 negative ones about Crabtree. You’re behind schedule. Embarrass yourself all you want. You’re pretty good at it. Bwahahahaha aha!

      • Prime Time says:

23welcher why do I think the blog would be better off without, well let’s let the proof be in the pudding. Lets see how many valuable, football related comments you come up with vs. your instigating, ad nauseum, repeated crap and we will see which side you contribute more.

      • ribico says:

        >>I have no problem being called the welcher.

Sine you are a spectacularly documented example of someone who welches, I should hope not.

      • ribico says:

Although it makes me wretch just contemplating it, I am also strategically rooting for the Rams.

      • 49erGirl says:

        Rib,

It was like rooting for the Cowboys beat the Seahawks in week 2 – something just didn’t feel right, lol!

      • DS94everXev says:

This blog deserves 23J. The stick your head in the sand and hope he will ever give anybody respect approach has a success rate of 0% in all things. Blog/social/governmental/personal, anything. It won’t every work. Thing is…you stick your head in the sand for too long, you’ll suffocate.

Enjoy your constant complaining of the guy while not trying to put an end to the underlining problem this blog has had since before I was here. A simple solution to it all. And we can’t even agree on that. No wonder we can’t agree on who the QB is for the Niners will be in 3 games.

      • 49erGirl says:

Did you off your meds again?

      • 49erGirl says:

        *go off*

      • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

        Prime,

no matter what you say, you can’t make me like Smiths abilities. I will continue to complain about his bad play and I will give him his props when he plays well. If you are questioning that, go back and find negative comments from me after the GB game and after the Det. Game. I gave him his props but I said I know Smith is inconsistent. That why I said don’t get too excited and that I wasn’t convinced. What have we seen the last 2 games? Inconsistency.
Now this is talking football, not agreeing with you, not instigating either. If he plays poorly again, I’m coming back the same way as Minnesota and NY. If he plays well, he will get his props again. I have this feeling that he won’t be any better than he has been this year, average and inconsistent.

      • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

        BS!

NOW you want to fix the blog, while you’re hormones are raging and you can’t control your emotions. I can’t believe you dude. You are killing me. You want to fix this blog??? Take a 2 week vacation. I’m confident that 80% of the people on this blog would appreciate it. Try accepting responsibility for your actions and offering an apology. Try humbling yourself, instead of being so arrogant and self righteous. And for God’s sake, don’t feel like the blog won’t survive without your 100 posts per day. Give it a rest.

      • ninermd says:

There was once “one”guy on here that cracked one day and couldn’t handle the abuse anymore. 7 years later he was banned again. Buhahahahaaaaa. Bs is going down the same route. Hey there is a new blog sheriff now. Ribico….. You gonna call ds out on this????? Since you like telling people what to post.

I’m a little disappointed that we haven’t seen L James yet. I’d like to see him in a bunch package, or line him out wide as a WR screen or even just a straight center screen.
Wanna see what the kids got.

    • Nick says:

      Bay
I’d like to see both L James and AJ Jenkins get some playing time this year. We’ll see how things play out.

  11. Chris says:

NFL.com has Rex Ryan miked up for the 49er blow out. It’s not as good as I hoped it would be, but still great to relive that win. Here is the link:
    http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-films-sound-efx/0ap2000000069027/Sound-FX-Jets-fall-34-0?module=HP11_cp

    • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

Thanks Chris. Rex got humbled pretty bad right there.

    • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

      Chris,

Look at the sound FX video of Santonio Holmes talking about sending us all the way home with an ass kicking on that long flght home. Hilarious!!! Then he gets hurt and is out for the season. Not a good look for Holmes.

  12. ribico says:

The bright side for the Jets – no possibility of a Holmes-Sanchez meltdown by season’s end.

    • AES* says:

Unless Sanchez joins Holmes on the bench (lol).

A couple more games like last Sunday will force Ryan’ hand and start a riot among the Jets faithful. Wheew!

  13. AES* says:

Good divisional game tonight. I have the Rams beating the Cards in an upset. Bradford looks the QB we saw in his rookie season.

K.Kolb is either as good as the Cards thought he was when they signed him, or he is the inconsistent QB that caused him to lose his job in TC. I’m hopeing for the inconsistent Kolb tonight.

The Cards do have a very formidable defense this year, so it makes this game a very ineresting watch aside from the divisional ramifications.

    • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

      Guys,

I want to see the Rams win that game but can they? They are moving the ball between the 20′s but they are kicking a lot of field goals. It sure would be nice to get the Cards their 1st loss. Never thought I’d be rooting for a division foe to beat another division foe this year. Go Rams! Lol.

    • ribico says:

Look at these QBs – missing open receivers. I thought ours was the only one in the league who does that.

      • Msclemons67 says:

So you’re comparing Alex to Kolb? Seems about right.

      • Prime Time says:

Rib, you owe me a beer!

      • ribico says:

Lol. Yeah Kolb. The guy the anyone-but-Alex crowd wanted in here last year. The guy the anyone-but-Alex crowd ranks a dozen places or so above Alex in those tired better-QBs-than-Alex list.

      • Msclemons67 says:

I’ve always referred to Kolb as Alex 2.0. I never wanted Kolb here.

Why replace a guy who has poor pocket presence and field perception with his twin?

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Clem, KK is not as good as AS. SB is still missing passes as well. Interesting how these two teams use the hot read or check down when nothing is open vertical!

      • Prime Time says:

Hof I’m seeing KK check down quite a bit in this drive but they seem to be moving the chains, keeping their defense fresh and in scoring range, strange strategy?

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Prime, seems like it is working unless the miss the FG!! LOL

      • Msclemons67 says:

@Hofer I would agree – Alex is better than Kolb and Bradford. That’s not saying much though. They’re crappy.

I didn’t make the initial comparison. That was your fellow Smithers.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

PP is a better KO return guy than DB.

      • Prime Time says:

Hof what they should have done was when they had the ball on their side of the field was to throw a 55 yard bomb. If they miss it or gets INT, just as good as a punt right?

      • Hoferfan67 says:

        *PR guy*

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Actually, they need bring their “understudy” in to throw the 55 yd pass. LOL

      • Prime Time says:

        I like the apprecentice better!

      • ribico says:

You’re right, clem. I’ll have to watch some other games this weekend to see if it’s possible that any other NFL QBs miss open receivers.

  14. AES* says:

    @DS

You want to continue to wallow in the muck, you go for it.

    I’m done!

    • DS94everXev says:

Actually cleaning up the muck does get you dirty for a bit. But then it’s gone/cleaned. You take a shower, and there is no more muck anymore.

      Good analogy.

      • AES* says:

DS, for the love of everything holy, please get some help, you’re imploding before our very eyes.

      • DS94everXev says:

        AES

Standing idly by hoping the muck just cleans itself hasn’t worked.

If you don’t think that getting rid of the namecalling and mom comments will improve the blog, I can’t convince you otherwise. I think the blog would be better. If you don’t, we just won’t agree.

Making a line in the sand. Stop with the free for all. Change it or accept it will worsen. No more sidelines guy. Hoping things improve by doing nothing and not forcing the other side to come to terms of some basic level of respect is really a joke of a strategy. It hasn’t worked. Repeated requests to stop it hasn’t worked. Lots of people have stated they don’t read the blog anymore because of the namecalling. I’ve been a part of it. It needs to end. The blog won’t get worse if it disappears. I bet it gets a whole lot better in fact. Those who are already here and want to remain will be here regardless. Those who’ve left may just come back. Maybe it’ll attract others who are looking for an actual discussion, not insult spewing. And the blog won’t be full of insults, but of actual football material. That is better than now.

This would do it. Get your boots and gloves on to clean or get out.

      • 49erGirl says:

Looks like Grant put his cleaning gloves on and deleted your posts.

Should tell you who’s comments were most inappropriate in this scenario.

  15. AES* says:

    @DS

Take a couple of days off to clear your head. At the moment you are not capable of reason and logic.
You were wrong to insult 23J’ mom the way you did. Not taking responsibility and accountability for your inappropriate actions tells me all I need to know about you.

    Have a nice life bud.

    • Neal says:

      @AES,

That would be impossible for BS, he, she or it, needs this blog as people need food and drink to survive. Good Luck with that.

      • Jack Hammer says:

        Neal,

Sorry I haven’t asked in a couple weeks, but how is your sons season going?

      • Neal says:

        Hey Jack,

They were crushed a couple of weeks ago against Burlingame, lost 33- 0. Then lost a tough game last week against Pioneer 12-9, although my son has finally settled into a position. Playing cornerback, and I do have to say very well. Made a nice play last week deflecting a pass to a receiver on a 4th down play, head coach said it was the play of the game but they fell short. I am proud of him, this is his first year of freshman football, and I was jumping for joy on that play , as he was congratulated on the sidelines.

      • Jack Hammer says:

That’s really cool and good to hear Neal!

    • 49erGirl says:

“At the moment you are not capable of reason and logic.”

That’s what happens during PMS week.

    • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

      AES,

We know this board hates speculation, but take a look at this. Remember we talked about Smith’s presser earlier this week. he was asked about his mechanics and he proceeded to speak about his shoulder. Think about this.

      1. No throws from Smith of over 45 yards at all this year. Not completions, attempts.

      2. Very few throws of over 20 yards this season.
      3. Substituting Kap to make or attempt that 58 yard pass.
      4. Accuracy on intermediate throws.
      5. Accuracy on out patterns.
      6. Unwillingness to make throws in tight windows downfield at all.
      7. A desire not to attempt a deep throw, while down by 13 points to the Vikings.
      8. His desire to go see Tom House about his footwork and mechanics
      9. His alleged visit to his shoulder surgeon in the offseason. lack of mechanics these last 2 games.
      10. His response when asked about his mechanics, he talked about the health of his shoulder. He said his shoulder was fine. The reporters didn’t question the health of his shoulder. They asked him about his mechanics.
It could be nothing, but I wonder what if anything, is really going on.

      • 49erGirl says:

If his mechanics are off because of a shoulder injury (new or complications from his previous injuries) it would explain why he is struggling and seems to have regressed with his accuracy this year.

Hope its not the case – if healthy he can continue to work on mechanics and get better week-to-week, but if its the result of a nagging injury it could be an issue that plagues him all season.

      • AES says:

I did not mean to make an issue from AS’ comment regarding his shoulder. But it did strike me as interesting that he would voluntarily bring it up.

If AS does have a lingering issue with his shoulder, he must be commended for playing (and winning) under these circumstances. I remember him receiving a clean bill of health upon his return to football, so making this comment is puzzling to me.

I hope that AS’ shoulder is fine, because I want to see him at his best on Sunday’s.

Not going to read to much into it right now.

  16. Jack Hammer says:

Thanks for the suggestion Hofer. I did a bit of that for my post on Tuesday. Shame on you for not checking it out : ) just kidding. That is the fun stuff to work on, and I can definitely expand it to 10 plays or so.

I just need to figure out how to either link or get the snapshots from the all 22 to load. It would make it a lot more powerful and eliminate the assertions of bias somewhat. If anyone can help me with this please let me know.

    • Jack Hammer says:

That would be something to see for sure Claude. LoL! I think the short week and travel is going to benefit St Louis. They aren’t a bad defensive team themselves. This one might end up a field goal kicking contest, 9-6 or something around there.

    • Hoferfan67 says:

Jack, regarding still shots of the all 22, it can be done, someone did it on the 9er site board.

      • Jack Hammer says:

Hofer, I have seen that too but can’t figure it out myself. I will keep working on it. Maybe by next week…

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Jack, how about on a laptop or desktop using the print screen key? Can you stop/pause the all 22? If yes, press the print screen key and CTRL V (copy) it onto a file such as word. The do the same thing onto the blog. Maybe?

      • Jack Hammer says:

Thanks Hofer, I will give that a try.

  17. Adam says:

Whew… check out the drama! More hormones flying around on here than in a room full of Jr. High cheerleaders.

    • DS94everXev says:

      Adam
No hormones. Just tired of seeing the blog act like a bunch of Jr High kids.

Can’t say thanks or we’re cool without somebody having cause to go on the attack. Even if none of those insulted even posted. No control. It shouldn’t/could’nt be this way. It is though.

Like so many things people moan about things, but never actually do anything to make it better. They’d rather complain for months on end than spend 10 minutes to solve the problem forever. My background experience by the way says this is common and is the #1 reason why things don’t improve.

I don’t know your background, but it isn’t worth while. Fights, complain about fights, then fight again. An endless cycle. A simple solution presents itself, and…Nahhh. Just continue what you’ve (not specifically you) been doing because it is comfortable. Not for me good sir.

      • Prime Time says:

DS, it’s over now, let’s move on to football.

Tonight will tell us how good our division is. I was not impressed with SEA on Monday night and I’m thinking Flynn will start when they play us in two weeks.
Not sure how much of a test the Rams offense will be for the Cards defense but want to see how good or bad Bradford can be. Lets hope it’s a physical game.

      • 49erGirl says:

“Just tired of seeing the blog act like a bunch of Jr High kids.”

Really? Seriously? You insulted someone’s deceased mother repeatedly and said all those ugly things without remorse (most of which have since been deleted by Grant) and are now trying to turn around and play victim/hero?

        Wow. Just WOW. Freakin’ unbelievable.

  18. 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

    Grant,

Good blog question. How many snaps does Kaepernick get this week if any? If he plays, how many throws does he make and what type of throws will he attempt? I think all these questions will tell us an awful lot Bout whether or not he is suited for the role of this teams starting QB. Also whether that will be sooner or later.
I think Kap getsat least 12-15 snaps this week and I think he will make 3-6 throws. They all won’t be 55 yard bombs to moss. This is an OPINION. What do you guys think?

    • Jack Hammer says:

I don’t think we will see Kaepernick at all this week.

      • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

        Jack,

That’s bold!!! Why?? Or do I have to go to your blog to find out? Congradukations as well my man. That blog keeps you neutral! Lol

      • Nick says:

        Jordan
He has to stay neutral in order to attract the Smither crowd :)

      • Nick says:

The Bills spent “a lot” of time preparing for CK this week according to their HC Chan Galey. So even if CK doesn’t play, his impact will be felt.

      • Jack Hammer says:

        Jordan,

He’s played about 5 snaps all year not counting the mop up at the end of the Jets game. I don’t expect him to play every week. Part of his appearances are to give the upcoming teams on the schedule something else to prepare for. Mission accomplished.

      • ribico says:

Why does he have to attract the smither crowd? According to Chris, that’s only 4 people. Not many clickthroughs there.

    • 23jordan/WARM UP KAPERNICK says:

      Ribico, Nick

Do you expect him to play this week? What’s your best guess?

  19. AES* says:

    @Hammer

Great work on your blog bud.

My question to you is; why not use CK in as many games as possible?
He is a hybrid type player who could make a difference when he is inserted.

CK7 (Harbaugh/Roman) proved last Sunday that he adds a dynamic and new dimension to the offense when he plays.
If our offense comes out sluggish the way it has looked over the last two weeks, I insert CK without hesitation.

I say if we have an added weapon, we need to utilize it.
I believe Harbaugh is seeing it that way too.

    • Msclemons67 says:

An actual touchdown in the Akers Zone seems like enough reason to sprinkle in CK more often.

    • Jack Hammer says:

      Thanks AES.

He may play this week, Roman said they have a package for him every week. I just don’t see him playing every week at this point, but this is one time I won’t mind being wrong ; )

  20. AES says:

Looks like the Cards and the Rams could have used a good “apprentice” or “understudy” like CK7 tonight.

Maybe Harbaugh could work out a deal with them. (lol), Harbaugh will never give up his ‘hand-picked’ QB to anyone.
I really don’t think that Harbaugh cares if the AS fan club feels threatened by CK7′ performance.
Hilarious how a 49er player who just had the best day of his young career has become an object of ridicule by some.
Oh well, I should consider the sources (lol).
