Willis on Alex Smith: “Now he gets to enjoy the fruits of his labor.”

SANTA CLARA – Patrick Willis spoke at his locker Wednesday afternoon. Here’s what he said.

Q: Did your offense surprise you at all against the Bills?

WILLIS: We got out here and practice every day and we see the way those guys practice. For them to go out there and put up the numbers that they put up, they were extraordinary numbers. We never underestimate our offense. We know that they’re capable, at any time, of having a big game.

Q: How good is Eli Manning?

WILLIS: Eli, he’s a tough quarterback. You have to play against that guy for 60 minutes. As long as you’re out there on defense, you can’t take a series off. He’s capable at any time of making a big play.

Q: How good is Ahmad Bradshaw?

WILLIS: Ahmad Bradshaw, he runs the ball hard. They’re big into their running game and it plays into their offensive game. It’s going to be a good game. We played them twice last year and it was a good game both times, but they won the one that counted the most, the last game. It’s another opportunity for us to go out there again and play against a good football team. We’ll see what happens. Our mindset is really just to go out there and continue to play team football and continue to play team defense. We just want to go out there week in, week out and play great defense.

Q: Dashon wearing your jersey at his press conference just a few minutes ago. He said he was representing the team captain. What that mean to you?

WILLIS: (Laughs) Dashon… It’s truly an honor. It’s a blessing to be one of those guys, captains. I tell them all the time, they voted me capatin, but I feel like everyone on this defense are captains. That’s why we all are equal because we all want the same thing. We all go out there and play the same way. We all go out there and play on one accord.

Q: Eli took a pounding in the NFC Championship. Did his toughness surprise you?

WILLIS: Not really. You’ve seen Eli over the years, him go through that. I think early on in his career people were writing him off a little bit and were all over him saying maybe he’s not as good as people thought he was. You’ve seen him continue to fight and now the man has two Super Bowl rings and you can’t take that away from him.

Q: Did you see his physical toughness in college when you played with him at Ole Miss?

WILLIS: My last year in college, he pretty much made it look almost easy. I never got to see adverse times that much. Also, back then I didn’t know what to look for, I was just happy to be winning.

Q: How gratifying for you is it that Alex Smith is playing well?

WILLIS: It’s great for him. He’s a guy who has certainly been at the bottom early on in his career. Just to see him doing the things he’s doing this year and really just to see him go through those tough times and press right through them to be where he is today. I’m a firm believer that things happen in life, good or bad, but when things start to turn around for you, that path you took. You look at the good, you look at the bad and it makes where you are right now in life that much sweeter because you know what it’s like to go through those tough times. He certainly did and now he gets to enjoy the fruits of his labor.

Everybody should wear a Patrick Willis jersey….its only fitting honor the beat player in yhe NFL….

  2. DS94everXev says:

Guess that means Willis is a Smither as well.

Damn! It’s a plague of Smithers! With him and Jim around. Run for the hills! Get the CDC. A virus is loose making everybody who matters like Alex Smith!

False alarm. They always did. That was close.

    • BennyBlanco says:

I still wish they would have cut Smith and kept Nate Davis ;)

      • DS94everXev says:

        Benny

        Nahh

I wanted McNabb in FA in 2011. Or Matt Flynn this year. He threw for 6 TD’s in the last game of last season at home. That was 1/3 of AS’s total last year. If we had him, we’d have 16 games x 6 TD’s per game = 96 TD passes by our QB by the end of this season!

See. Those are stats! And they are facts! Can’t dispute them now.

      • Chris says:

There is only 1 stat that counts in the NFL and in any sport for that matter. How many championships do you have?
You can piss away your opinion about any other number you want. It really doesn’t matter, because like Willis said above, NY won the game that mattered.
You can fill in the blank when asked how many rings does your QB have.

      • BennyBlanco says:

        @Chris
Dan Marino doesn’t have any rings so he must of sucked according to your reasoning. Child Please

      • Chris says:

We think alike. I was about to mention Dan Marino. He’d trade any stats in the world for ring. I think Trent Dilfer really put things in perspective in his interview on ESPN.
It’s not about the fans or the numbers. It’s about championships with your team.
I hope you don’t read into that as me saying Alex Smith Sucks. I don’t think he sucks. I think he has a great heart and that he is the leader on this team.

      • BennyBlanco says:

All I’m saying is up to this point the teams and staff’s that Alex has been a part of haven’t been “great” as a whole. I agree Dan would take a ring over stats… but he’s still one of the greatest QB’s to ever play the game. I’m just happy for Alex and the success he’s having. It’s seems people will knock him no matter the circumstance even though he’s playing at the highest level. Good points though!

      • DS94everXev says:

        Chris

So you don’t think PW is good then. He has no rings.

Good thinking there. Maybe next time consider somebody besides AS in your post. It’ll force you to change your perception. You don’t get rings without a good team. Till last year, neither AS or PW were on a good team. And I’ll keep an eye for any posts of yours complaining about any low stats from any player, and remind you of this post about championships being the only stat worth your while.

        BS,

Take the vacation please!! I’ll beta petition together, maybe they will donate funds to help you on the trip!!

      • Prime Time says:

23 bitter, seeking attention and now angry, you need to hug it bro!

      • ninermd says:

And Chris…. You are absolutely right. Rings count. Nothing else. The win or leave stank is in the air in Sf again. And one playoff win isn’t going to cut it. Super Bowl or bust. Nothing less will do!!!

      • DS94everXev says:

Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! How adorable. The wussy baby is coming over without anybody insulting that miserable excuse of a human being. 23 where are your pals?

You do need some attention. Go to a club. If you pay, they’ll laugh in disgust at you. No hubby/wife/girlfriend. No boyfriend either. When they are done laughing you may sleek on home. Where it is dark. Lonely. Cold. And repeat the next day. That is all you have to look forward to. Hating. Lonliness. Cold.

Take your psychotherapy medicine like the doctor ordered. If not, you may not awaken the next day to repeat your cycle. And I wouldn’t miss you at all.

        Go on now. Follow orders.

      • Chris says:

Actually DS, the statement was pretty black and white.
Stats do not matter to anyone on the 49ers or in the NFL. Rings matter. That’s what it said. Plain and simple. Black and white. Nothing else. Not looking at numbers. Whose good and who isn’t. Quite simple. Either you have a ring or you don’t. Any other stat that is spewed out is meaningless. It’s all subjective. Rings are solid.

    • ninermd says:

On the 49ers’ Peyton Manning chase: “You have to take in the fact Peyton Manning is a Hall of Fame quarterback. When you have the opportunity to take someone like that, you just don’t overlook it. But at the same time, too, Alex is where he wants to be and we’re very confident in him. The 49ers’ organization was just looking to get better. You can’t blame that for that, looking at a guy like Peyton Manning. At the end of the day, Alex is our quarterback and that’s who we of faith in and who we’re going to ride with.”

Looks like Willis was a Manning fan too. This goes to show that of course you are going to say nice things about your teammate. I believe he believes it too. Ds using another attempt to start the smith fights again. Pathetic! What’s Willis going to say? The 49ers could never upgrade smith? Oh wait. He said that in this interview. Ds’mith get lost you slob!

      • ribico says:

Willis also knows if the team went with Manning, he’d be playing with fewer defensive teammates than he is now.

      • Prime Time says:

And Rib probably asked to restructure his deal.

      • ninermd says:

Not arguing that Rib… My point is pretty clear. What’s a teammate supposed to say????? Yet bs just wants to run with it to stir up problems on this site, because bus’s life is pathetic.

      • ribico says:

If he stirs up the site, at least he puts thought into the posts. Unlike Jordo, who stirs up the site, with no thought whatsoever.

      • ninermd says:

Thought and ds in the same sentence? Ha ha haaaa. What are we going to get into it over those two? No thanks! J23 might be wrong on his Smith predictions. But he doesn’t back a terrible comment made by another when a man is asking for help. Bs will NEVER be respected on here. And like I told bs awhile ago. Careful with the idiot you back… (Onelame) and bs has sunk to his level.

      • claude balls says:

        @ ninermd:

And like I told bs awhile ago. Careful with the idiot you back

So what does it mean that you back jordan?

      • ninermd says:

About as much as you back bs Claude…. J23 knows I don’t agree with his outlook on smith. But I don’t look down on him for his opinion. Like smith fans like to do. This is why I can point my finger at hypocrites like bs. Ya dig?

      • 49erGirl says:

Good points, rib. I somewhat agree with you.

Jordo stirs things up just being himself – he doesn’t have to put effort into it. He could care less if you like him or not and there is never a doubt where he stands on things.

The other stirs things up because it puts effort into trying to manipulate people. It expects you to obey its every command and gets irate/unreasonable when you don’t. It flip flops more than a politician and contradicts itself on a daily basis.

      • claude balls says:

        @ ninermd:

No, I’m afraid I don’t dig and it looks like you don’t either.

People don’t “look down” on jordan because of his opinion. They look down on him because of the manner in which he expresses it. Because of the way he acts like a jerk to get attention. Because of the way he insists upon being a wet blanket after 49er victories. Because of the hypocritical way he demands respect but shows none for those who disagree with him. And because of the welching. No one likes a welcher.

      • Prime Time says:

Who on this blog likes a welcher?

        Nooooooobbbbbboooodddyyyyy!!!!!!!

      • 23jordan/Alex is Elite! says:

        Claude,

You are a liar. Show me one post where I’ve disrespected someone or put them down or called them names for not agreeing with me? You’re a lying piece of shi-. I post my position and i don’t care whether you like it or not. You don’t like my delivery, stop reDing the posts clown. I don’t post in hopes that you read them. I post because I have a right to.
You’re a freaking hypocrite. Just the other day, you were telling BS he was out of line. You don’t even agree with that idiot. You and other SMITHERS don’t like my posts because I don’t think our QB is very good and I don’t kiss you azz trying to be polite about saying it and I never will. If you don’t like it, go jump off a cliff.
I’ll never be as pathetic an idiot as BS. I will also never respect BS. I only respect you for having the decency to correct that azz for being out of place. Other than that, I don’t give a damn about what you think. Ive been posting here long before you and all your Smither cronies got here. I’ve been posting while ALex Smith was straight shi- and the only one here who could and would back him was Hofer. I’ll probably be here when you and Smith are gone.
So get used to seeing my posts and keep replying to them because they are not going to change. Now cut and paste that fool. Bwahahahaha!

      • Prime Time says:

Claude I believe 23 just unleashed a fury we have seen before.
23, time to make an appointment to see the therapist, you are getting loopy again bud. Somebody say refill prescription please!

      • 23jordan/Alex is Elite! says:

        Md,

These azzholes wake up in the morning looking for a post from me. These clowns get hurt and offended with my delivery. I love that. I glad it burns them. I want it to. I don’t look for their posts to dispute them. I just post what I want. If the Snmithers don’t like it, and I hope they don’t, its only because the truth hurts. If they knew it wasnt true, they’d ignore it. They can’t because in the back of their minds, they know that JH is holding Alex Smith up and they hope he doesn’t lose his grip. They love Smith because they got bullied as kids and so they support the underdog. They were miserable underdogs. Probably getting their lunch money taken and their glasses stepped on every week.
Poor idiots. I hope they hate the message because they are going to keep coming!

      • ribico says:

        >>Show me one post where I’ve disrespected someone or put them down or called them names for not agreeing with me?

Umm… in the very same posting that appeared.

        >>You’re a lying piece of shi-.
        >>clown
        >>You’re a freaking hypocrite
        >>pathetic an idiot as BS

Jordo, are you sure you don’t have Tourettes? Spaz out then don’t remember a thing you’ve said?

        Ribico,

I’m responding to attacks like I always do. If you don’t like the delivery, don’t read it or find another blog. How about that?

      • ribico says:

And miss when your next snit-fit and vow to leave the blog when X happens again?

        Not on you’re life, professor.

Welched on his promise to never again unleash a fury the likes of which the blog has never seen. That is the only welch I actually care about. If he hadn’t welched on that, the welch about leaving wouldn’t have mattered.

      • ribico says:

        >>I’ll probably be here when you and Smith are gone.

As long as you keep welching, you mean. Every single day you remain here is big fat reminder to the blog of guy whose word means jacksh*t. And you ask for respect??? You are one funny dude, professor.

      • Jack Hammer says:

        Jordan,

You really should work on your own ignore button. I know my opinion of you is in the minority, but you really need to let the BS stuff with some go.

      • Prime Time says:

Guys maybe we should back off, he is not stable! Don’t want he going all gangsta again. He might hurt himself.
23, my apologies and get better soon!

Please show the insult I put on 23 before his 5:12 post. Nobody brought him up. It was all on him to pick a fight that he can’t finish standing up. Whether that be due to a drunken fit of cheap whiskey at THAT corner near 7-11, or a bad hit of crack he bought in The Tenderloin District, or just the fact he is a miserable entity carrying 46 chromosomes, who can tell?

      • Prime Time says:

        DS all of the above!

      • DS94everXev says:

        Prime

It would explain a great many things.

      • claude balls says:

        @23welcher:

Glad to see that you don’t take any of this personally.

As for your insistence that you have never disrespected anyone on this site merely for disagreeing with you, we all know that’s crap. You have frequently shown disrespect to Hofer (who has never attacked on insulted anyone that I am aware of) for his support of Alex Smith. You condescend to him, you dismiss his well-reasoned arguments as mere “Alexcuses,” you insist he must be related to Smith. In addition, you regularly insist that those who disagree with your assessment of Smith must harbor homosexual desires for him. Your regular slams of the “Smithers” also show no respect for anyone (e.g., your 6:32 pm comment in this thread).

There’s more, a lot more, but I think I made my point.

Keep telling yourself that it’s only about you having a different opinion and not at all about you being you. That approach has worked so well for you up to this point.

      • claude balls says:

        * who has never attacked or insulted

  3. Jack Hammer says:

Some interesting comments today from Brandon Jacobs regarding his role with the 49ers…

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2012/10/10/brandon-jacobs-san-francisco-49ers-new-york-giants-nfc-championship-game/1625541/

    • AngusinCanada says:

Yes, I saw that too. I don’t blame him for being frustrated, but suck it up. 49ers should trade him to detroit, green bay, arizona or some other team that is in need of a rb, cuz there’s simply no role for him here. He’s the 3rd back, at most, who would see so few touches even if active that I don’t have a problem with Anthony Dixon taking those touches, and he doesn’t play special teams.

      • Jack Hammer says:

He is an insurance policy at this point. They have no room for him on the 46 man roster. Would be interesting to see if the local guys were a part of this interview and if so, did they bring it up to Harbaugh for his reaction?

  4. 49erGirl says:

“It would be different if things were different, put it that way,”

    Well….duh.

Whining to the media will get him no favors from Harbaugh….but might get him cut.

    • Prime Time says:

I respect that he is upset about playing time and the organization might have dropped the ball on him.
Did they think there was going to be enough touches for Gore, Hunter, Jacobs, Dixon and LMJ. Even with two of the five not carrying the ball, is there such a thing as a three headed backfield?
To me Moss and Jacobs were primarily depth signings and someone should have explained that to them.

      • 49erGirl says:

I get why he’s frustrated too – but he needs to keep that within the team. That’s a big no-no for this organization (or any well-run organization for that matter).

I was really suprised when they decided to keep 5 backs – I expected either Jacobs or Dixon to not make the team, especially since they’re a little light on back-up OLB’s.

I’m also surprised about how quiet Moss has been given his lack of opportunities. I thought he would be the one taking stuff out in the open before anyone else. Must have one hell of a media / gag clause in his contract!

      • Prime Time says:

Agree girl. Keep in mind the writer was from NY who probably goaded that out of Jacobs to create some controversy.
As for Moss, he knows this is his last stop and I brought up the idea this am that maybe he is looking into a career after football as a coach? He has been great with the young guys and taken on a leadership role.
No better place to learn than SF where they might have the best staff in the NFL.

      • BigP says:

Jacobs was part of the Earth, Wind and Fire backfield in New York, but it would be nice if he could get some touches. Moss will keep his mouth shut because if they win the Super Bowl this year he is a sure fire first ballot HOF’er. He moved into second place on the all time receiving TD list with his TD against Green Bay, which I know was important to him. I believe the guy really wants to win a Super Bowl.

      • MidWestNiner says:

I agree that I’d like to see Jacobs get more touches, but who can the Niners have inactive so he can? I’m not seeing any options right now in order for that scenario to happen.

  5. Prime Time says:

    Amen to that hang nail!
