49ers @ Saints live blog: Fourth quarter

NEW ORLEANS — This is the live blog for the fourth quarter of the 49ers Week 12 game against the Saints in the Superdome. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

3:52 On third and two, Kaepernick hits Crabtree for a five-yard gain.

3:54 On third and 10, Kaepernick throws a 24-yard rope to Walker. Alex Smith does not do that.

3:56 Kyle Williams is out for the rest of the game with a knee injury. Hunter has an ankle injury and he’s questionable to return.

3:59 On third and three, Kaepernick play fakes to go and hits Bruce Miller for a nine yard gain. Great play design by Roman.

4:00 Frank Gore picks up 14 yards on the next play. On first and goal from the 10, Alex Boone is flagged for a false start.

4:02 Gore gains 10 yards on first and goal. On second and goal from the five, Kaepernick tries to throw a fade to Moss in the end zone but the pass is almost picked off. On third down, Gore loses four yards on a read option. Three extremely conservative play call in a row by Roman. That was a nine-minute, 15-play drive. David Akers makes the 27-yard field goal. 31-21 Niners with 7:50 left in the fourth quarter.

4:08 Aldon and Justin Smith sack Brees on first down for an eight-yard loss.

4:09 Brees hits Devery Henderson for about 10 yards, but the refs call the pass incomplete. The Saints are challenging.

4:12 The refs reverse their ruling and call it a pass. Third and 12 at the Saints 21.

4:13 Whitner is flagged for defensive holding. That’s an automatic first down. That’s a huge play.

4:15 Brees completes a slant to Moore and Goldson trucks him, knocking the ball loose and recovering it. The refs rule down by contact. It looked like the ball was coming out.

4:16 Harbaugh is challenging the play, as he should. Moore runs to the locker room.

4:19 The refs confirm their ruling. Gain of 11 and a first down.

4:21 On third and two, Willis blitzes and splits a sack with Ahmad Brooks. They overwhelmed the third string right tackle. I’ve been waiting for Fangio to call that all game.

4:21 The Saints for in fourth and 11 from their own 25. Tarell Brown breaks up the pass intended for Morgan. 5:06 left in the game.

4:24 Gore runs twice and the Saints call two timeouts. Third and six from the Saints 32.

4:25 Kaepernick play fakes, rolls right and no one is open. He stiff arms a defensive lineman and throws the ball out of bounds before he’s pushed out of bounds. Akers is on the field to attempt a 50-yard field goal.

4:26 Akers doesn’t even come close. He misses wide left by about five yards. The Saints have the ball at their 40 yard line with 4:42 left and one timeout.

4:26 On first down, Brooks lines up at middle linebackers, blitzes and sacks Brees for a loss of seven. Brilliant play call.

4:28 Brees hits Sproles for seven yards on second down and six yards on third down. Fourth and four at the Saints 46.

4:28 Brees overthrows Moore down the middle of the field. Rogers had good coverage. I’m going down to the locker room. Back at you shortly.

Alex is ready, still got his helmet on in the 4th quarter.

  14. La-La Land says:

Delanie has CAUGHT 3 passes today. Where did his great hands suddenly come from?

  15. mr. rock says:

  16. Stan says:

That was a good New Orleans fan shut upper pass.

  17. Me says:

Wait, Walker can catch the ball also? Couldn’t tell watching the games this year.

  18. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

Kap is dealing with the blitz nicely for the most part.

  19. NinerNation says:

    Dixon in? Where is Brandon?

  20. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

In the words of Big P!! ” for the love of Boobie!”

  21. AES says:

    D%#$!
This guy can throw through a wall.
Best catch of the season for D.Walk!

  22. msclemons67 says:

That looked like Rathman right there. So pretty.

  23. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

    3rd down completions are nice!!!!

  24. NinerNation says:

Three 3rd down coversions for Kap on this drive. He’s gettin in a groove.

  25. MontanaMan16 says:

I keep forgetting to switch blogs on the qrtrs! As I was saying, we need to burn some clock and end with a td. So far so good!

  26. NinerNation says:

Alex Boone pile driving fools to finish that run. lol

  27. big niner says:

    quieting this crowd down!!! shhhhhhhhhhhhh

  28. NinerNation says:

Fade to Moss in the redzone incomplete.

  29. MontanaMan16 says:

  30. big niner says:

    thank u refs

  31. ribico says:

Yikes. Not on the same page on that pass to Moss. No penalty… whew

    • 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

Gotta throw that up high to Moss son, gotta show Kap some if those Viking highlights Moss!

    • BigP says:

Yeah, that has to be higher so Moss can use his height and jumping ability. There is no need to try and throw back shoulder with Moss in that situation.

    • ribico says:

I guess with all the passes Keap makes that Alex can’t, we’ll give him that one Alex-like pass.

      Great drive through.

  32. Stan says:

WHAT A CRAPPY 3RD DOWN CALL!!!

  33. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

Throw the ball roman you coward!!!

    • MontanaMan16 says:

Ya, got to admit. Is’s not just Alex. They say the coaches dont trust AS, thats not it at all. we just have conservative coaching!

  34. Stan says:

    Roman= red zone phobia.

  35. pete4mtx says:

The way i c it…refs still owe us

  36. JohnJPDX says:

10 is better than 7 but I would have liked 14

  37. 49er42 says:

    Moss saved us there.
    is Akers hurt?

  38. Me says:

Moss hot away with one there. Surprised.

  39. The Grinch says:

    Wow nice playcall…Trust Colin damnit..

  40. Stan says:

Gore up the middle?? the ghost of Mike still haunting 49er coaches minds.

  41. NinerNation says:

Bad call there they smelled the run out. A play action rollout to your stud tight end would have caught em’ off guard.

  42. Adam707 says:

Conservative football. Don’t you love it.

  43. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

4th longest drive in the NFL this season!!!

  44. Stan says:

Harbaugh..opts for cruise control over pedal to the metal every time.

  45. MontanaMan16 says:

WE need defense! Cant let them score and definitely cant let them score quick!

  46. neal says:

    Defense needs to stop them

  47. kreme says:

Both of the Seahawks’ starting cornerbacks could be facing NFL suspensions for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

  48. 49er42 says:

They didn’t throw on 3th because they didn’t want to risk a turnover.
need a three and out here.

  49. NinerNation says:

A few bad calls here and there but Roman has not called a terrible game though. We are up 10 points in the 4th Quarter on the road (2 TDs thank to the defense).

  50. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

On another note while the commercial is on. Seahawks corners Browner and Sherman face 4 game suspensions for PED’s,

  51. Jack Hammer says:

Good drive to eat up the clock. Would have been great had they got 6. Time for the D!!!

  52. big niner says:

    lets go defense

  53. ribico says:

    16 1/2!

  54. domingo says:

    Yes!

  55. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

    The Smith Brothers?!!!!!!

  56. Coffee's for closers says:

Kaep probably should have kept the ball on that last option. Looked like he could have run to the back side.

    • 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

Yeah, he didn’t want to be selfish. He’s gotta learn to be. It will come. He’s adjusting to being a leader on offense. He will know after this game that the offense is his now. Need the coaching staff to trust him. He is NO T Alex Smith. He’s K GUN SON!!!!!

    • jsand3030 says:

With their aggressive defense, im surprised we don’t call more of that . great drive though, eating up 9 minutes is almost as good as a TD

  57. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

Go get his AZZ again Aldon!!!!

  58. NinerNation says:

The Smith Brothers = Drew Brees kryptonite

  59. 49er42 says:

    That was a catch.

  60. Stan says:

Harbaugh told Roman-”Dont make my hearbeat fast!”..hence running on 3rd and goal from the ten?
    It slowed mine down.

  61. AES says:

Time for the defense to have a Brees-fest!

  62. BigP says:

Time to grind this thing down. The Defense needs to stop these guys right here on third and long.

  63. MontanaMan16 says:

    @23
Someone posted on the Seahawks corners a while back. Thats great news. We’re gonna really stomp them now!

  64. Nick says:

    Big play here

  65. Nick says:

    Bull $hit call again

  66. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

  67. BigP says:

    Stupid play by Culliver.

  68. BigP says:

DG just jacked that dude UUUUUPPPPP!!!!!

  69. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

    Pay Goldson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  70. big niner says:

hows that down by contact?? where were the whistles??

  71. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

Don’t challenge that JH. Lets play ball!

  72. BigP says:

Is he challenging the completion? It seemed pretty clear.

  73. domingo says:

Depends if there is a camera angle that shows he fumbled.

  74. MontanaMan16 says:

Goldson is a beast! No other way to put it!

  75. ribico says:

    Don’t think that gets reversed.

  76. domingo says:

I think he probably fumbled but it won’t overturned if cam does not show it.

  77. big niner says:

Goldson is the hardest hitting strong safety since Lott!! hands down! straight smaking fools!!!

  78. 49er42 says:

    The fumble

  79. Nick says:

    niners 31

  82. NinerNation says:

  86. Nick says:

  87. domingo says:

  88. big niner says:

  89. MontanaMan16 says:

Lets score again! Put no doubt!

  90. domingo says:

Put them away. Screw this conservative crap

  95. 49er42 says:

    Need 3 first downs

  96. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

Fake the dove and send Vernon Davis deep to put the Saints to sleep!!! That’s what New England would do!

  97. kreme says:

gore should get a break. bring baclk jocobs.

  98. pete4mtx says:

    Conservative :/

  99. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

Cameron Jordan, the Cal bear , played a hell of a game!

  100. pete4mtx says:

Need to replace Akers next yr

  101. mr. rock says:

Time to get a new fg kicker

  102. ninermd says:

Akers being Akers. Can his a$$!

  103. NinerNation says:

    WTF Akers?

  104. big niner says:

    what’s wrong with Akers?

  105. BigP says:

    Akers with the miss, ughh.

  106. pete4mtx says:

    Brooks!!!!!

  107. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

Why don’t we punt right there and pin them deep. Akers is no longer dependable. Thank God Kap is starting now. Akers is Krap!

    • steelematic says:

Good point jordo… Wat if akers was this bad last year. We would have not won 13 games. My opinon…. We have a qb that we dont have to be conservative with because he can make every throw. Bad part is Roman is still being conservative

  108. Jack Hammer says:

    AKERS!!!

  109. msclemons67 says:

    BOOM!

  110. big niner says:

    brooks is a monster today!

  111. kreme says:

    ahmad brooks = all pro

  112. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

    That’s my defense!!!

  113. NinerNation says:

Brees and the Saints O-line are shook right now. Defense going to work on these boys.

  114. big niner says:

    I worry we’ll need akers later…

  115. Nick says:

They’re not calling holding on NO

  116. msclemons67 says:

Ahmad Brooks is having a hell of a game.

  117. domingo says:

    Ball Game!

  118. big niner says:

    he stepped on his shoe.

  119. Arjinca says:

Akers looked he hurt himself after he made the 27 yard field goal. Rewind and watch how he bends over like he pulled something.

  120. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

Saints are out there begging for flags now!

  121. domingo says:

    A real good Win!

  122. pete4mtx says:

    Come on TD….put it away

  123. big niner says:

    Joe Buck sucks!!

  124. ninermd says:

Shin kicks. Ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaa! Never felt so good being wrong. Ill take it

  125. jgwindsor says:

solid win niners….defense is beginning the peaking process

  126. NinerNation says:

It’s Clock killin’ time & Gore is such a beast!

  127. Jack Hammer says:

    Grant,

You may want to book a hotel room in New Orleans for early February before heading out.

  128. 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

    Gore is a monster.

  129. pete4mtx says:

AS looks hilarious with his helmet ON…LOL

  130. domingo says:

Kaepernick handled adversity very well and sparked this win. There should be no doubt now.

    • tkamB says:

What adversity? When things got tough the defense got two pick sixes.

      • NinerNation says:

The defense did their job & so did Kap. Great win all around for the team on the road.

      • domingo says:

Things were rough for him, a loud hostile crowd against a hungry and improving team but he performed like a Vet and lifted the offense. Great win for Kap!

      • 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

Smithers gotta hate! We’re up 10 son. Defense gave up 21, we still win. Offense scored 20, could’ve scored more. Kap’s 2nd start! Those starters reps are extremely valuable!

      • BearKaep says:

I think you’ll find that 9 minute drive starting from his own 6 will be the key to this game. And on that drive I believe Kaep had what…3 3rd down conversions? That might not be adversity, but it’s definately pretty damned impressive for ANY quarterback much less one on his second start.

Adversity no….opportunity? Took it and rammed it down their throats.

      • tkamB says:

Not hating at all. Just point out that our offense scores 20 points (assuming this fg goes through but assuming with Akers this year is never a good idea) against the worst defense in the league.

      • ninermd says:

Jdilla…. Smith had 5 ints last season an still had to perform a comeback.

      • tkamB says:

Haha I never should assume with Akers. Sigh

      • BearKaep says:

“Not hating at all. Just point out that our offense scores 20 points (assuming this fg goes through but assuming with Akers this year is never a good idea) against the worst defense in the league.”

True to a point, you have to remember those pick sixes also mean Kaep had less scoring opportunities on his end as well. Great team win.

    • 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

There isn’t! There never was Domingo! I told them so!!

    • JDilla says:

seriously 2 pick sixes by the defense, i dont care who is playing qb, we better win

    • ninermd says:

Got to give the defense the spark too. They shut this offense down

      • domingo says:

Yep the D played great, they sparked the offense but Kap and the O definitely sparked the defense. That’s what you call a team!

      • JDilla says:

MD….i dont get your point about the 5 ints. its been a long day, brain is slow

      • ninermd says:

Jdilla last season in the playoffs smith was handed 5 turnovers. My brain is fine. Your memory isnt

  131. mr. rock says:

Smith still in his helmet is cracking me up

  132. ninermd says:

Is smith afraid to get hit in the head? He’s been wearing his helmet all game.

  133. Me says:

Who’s this Jacobs guy carrying the ball?

  134. msclemons67 says:

Ok, I have to agree with the refs. Iupati strangled that guy to death.

  135. HeyLittleGirl says:

Fox just showed a sideline shot of Alex with his helmet on. His face was like what I’d expect, the day after his wife asked for a divorce.

  136. big niner says:

AS needs to pull out his pom poms.. why is he sulking? He’s had a long time to prove him self in JH’s offense. He needs to be more positive

  137. ribico says:

    Great team win!

(Notice how I didn’t say Kaep got bailed out by the defense scoring like the haters would if Alex was playing :)

    • 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

      Rib,

For that, I will award you a seat on the back of the bandwagon. Right over there next to Prime. You both are in the trunk. Save some room for Hofer and B.S. on 2nd thought, BS is not welcome.

    • pete4mtx says:

Lol..another game another egg huh PRIME….LOL

    • msclemons67 says:

I would agree that Kaep got helped massively by the D.

I also think Alex would have scored zero points. All of the 49ers points on offense came because of CK’s superior pocket presence and elusiveness.

With the Precious this would have been a 21-14 loss.

      • tkamB says:

Yes because the last time Alex played the Saints he did terribly

      • msclemons67 says:

@tkamB keep clinging to that one good game from Smith. It will keep you warm at night when you’re rooting for Alex to take over the starting QB position on the Eagles.

      • tkamB says:

I root for the 49ers, not for or against a player. Maybe you should try doing that so you could make some more objective points instead of getting blinded by your hero worship.

      • neal says:

AS was not all that great against the Saints last year, he was ok in the first 1/4 and ofcourse he got his 15 minutes of fame in the fourth quarter but he was 3 and out in the second and third quarter.

    • Neanderthal Offense says:

Technically, Rib, you did write it! Letting it go is the hardest step. You’ve got my support if you need it, bud!

      • ribico says:

Hey, I’m happy – the Niners are winning. The haters are happy, the Niners are winning without Smith. It’s the best of both worlds – what’s not to like?

  138. big niner says:

    drew looks constipated

  139. ribico says:

    Hey Bunkley, leave the field.

  140. Crab15 says:

KAP HAS A GUN AND HE’S NOT AFRAID TO USE IT!

  141. ninermd says:

Cheap shot kick in the head. Wouldn’t expect anything less with a classless team. Hit the showers you bum

  142. mr. rock says:

    Enjoy the 50,000$ fine bunkley

  143. A to the F says:

Looks like we might have an active AJ Jenkins next week. And I hope LaMichael instead of Jacobs, but that one I doubt.

  144. AES says:

Hearing Aikman and J.Buck go on about Alex Smith. Although they too find it somewhat strange that Harbaugh is going with CK, they agree that CK has the biggest upside.

AS is not a bad QB. But he has hit his ceiling and that does not bode well for a Harbaugh type offense.

    • neal says:

      AES,

Smith would of been sacked at least 8 times in this game, and we may of lost the game as well if he was starting.

      • AES says:

Well Neal, that’s an hypothetcal assumption. We don’t know for sure how many sacks take if he had played today.

I’ve seen enough of CK to formulate these facts:
        1. He has great pocket presence (this was a major concern for me prior to these last two games).
        2. He can extend plays by avoiding the sack.
        3. He can make the ‘tight window’ throws.
        4. Shows a fearless mentality when throwing downfield.
        5. Is only scratching the surface of what he can become.

Having said this. I just caught Harbaugh’ post game presser and he said the he was still concerned about AS’ condition even though he passed his ‘contact test’ a few days ago.
It doesn’t sound as if Harbaugh has made CK the official starter for the rest of the season.

As I said after the Bears game, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see AS trot out on the field again.
Harbaugh is not a conventional type coach. If we have learned anything about Harbaugh it is that he thrives on the non-traditional.

      • neal says:

        AES,

That is just gobble gobble jive turkey talk from JH .

    • Adam says:

Harbaugh just explained it in the presser. Didn’t like the the long laying symptoms of the concussion. Felt it was better to rotate him back in slowly. Makes sense. That’s what I figured was happening

      • neal says:

        Their won’t be no rotation.

      • ribico says:

Girl, you don’t have the cred to carry Adam’s jockstrap. Give it up before embarrassing yourself further.

      • neal says:

        Adam,

I thought you had common sense but you are losing it son,, do you really believe everything Slick Jim say, you are naive Smitherine

      • neal says:

        Ribico,

Adam jock strap is no bigger then a peanut shell and a rubber band, you are both naive. Since when does JH talk honest to the media. Geez get some reality.

      • ribico says:

Neal, Adam has contributed very informative and thoughtful postings over the course of this blog. That little pissant “Girl” is just a typical internet POS.

      • neal says:

        Ribico,

Adam has lost it, if he takes JH verbatim in the presser, really you guys reminds me of a guy that says he has a great marriage, his wife cooks, cleans, take care of the children and is great in bed. he is a lucky guy, but he ignores then signs, and one day his wife leaves him and he is lonely and shocked. I don’t bother to listen to JH presser because he does not tell the truth, he likes conflict.

Relax, Neal Fitzbob. I don’t believe much of what Harbaugh says. Don’t put much stock in what you have to say either.

I’ll never forgive Lowell for changing over his comment system to Facebook and dumping a whole basket of nuts on to this blog.

The Offense was awful. Without TWO defensive touchdowns, we were hurting. The Aint’s D is not so good that we should have needed them. This should have been a blow out.

    • foamingatdamouth says:

Offense was good, but not perfect. They had a lot of penalties, but that 9 min plus scoring drive in which they converted 3 3rd downs was gutsy. Most importantly, they consistently showed the ability to make big plays. 8 more games to #6!

    • pete4mtx says:

Really??this team beat the #1 ranked Falcons and were on a very hot steak..not to mention the advantage of playing at home..CK did awesome..avoiding key sacks and making great throws

CK was so great! Best qb performance ever…did enough to win with couple of pick six help… Wipe your nose off guys.

Not sure if their are any Smithers left on here, I’m sure they are all taking their depressions meds, but they got to realize that CK is better then AS right now, and I will take CK and his presence and promising future over any QB in the NFL.

  154. 49er42 says:

KAP was good, not great. The O. Line made lots of mistakes that really hurt.

Yep! I’m the idiot who said we wouldn’t win. But I’ll take that idiot tag. :-) wheeew

  156. michael says:

The stat that won the game to me is 0 sacks ck7 avoided several that Alex would’ve been sacked and would’ve been drive killers. There was 1 that Kap escaped that would’ve been a 7 yard loss on 2nd down but kap got 3.

  157. BigP says:

New Orleans was playing hot and needed this game to stay in the playoff chase, it was like a playoff game for them. This was a big time win on the road, in a very tough environment. Kaepernick had the pick, which he never should have thrown after the low snap. He also should have thrown the ball up to Moss instead of going to the back shoulder. Teachable moments. He also made some great throws and had the TD run. Overall, it was a very good performance in a tough environment.

  158. DS94everXev says:

Haven’t seen the whole game, but 2 pick 6′s, we’d better have won.

We have seen the end of delicate flower. Now Alex go in your room for a time out, because you were miserable seeing a elite QB play the game.

      • Adam says:

An elite QB? You get get carried away much?

      • neal says:

        Adam,
He will be considered elite in his career, it is a slam dunk, now you Smithers can stand by your man as he moves from team to team in his career.

      • ribico says:

Adam, he has a 1.000 winning record. That’s the NFL all-time best, isn’t it? I call that elite.

      • Adam says:

Right, Neal. Thanks for clearing that up.we don’t have to watch any games now, we can just skip right to the hall of fame.

      • neal says:

        Adam,

You smithers are very delicate and sensitive, yes we all know that JH said AS is elite too, look where that got him.

      • ribico says:

So when the coach calls a player elite we mock him. But when a bunch of yahoo fans do the same thing, we genuflect. Got it.

      • neal says:

        Ribico,

JH is not a honest and sincere Coach, when he is addresses the media, he dislikes the media. The entire NFL didnot think AS was elite and that showed volumes, JH had to take him even if he was the last ugly girl at the dance.

      • Adam says:

Neal, you’re nuttier than a grove of pecan trees in October. You’re one of the weirder haters for sure. Keep doing what you do best.

  160. Neanderthal Offense says:

    Now hear this!

Drew Brees is the phoniest player in the NFL! All smiles and puppies on the outside. But when it came to Sean Pamphilon was set to release the Greg Williams audiotape, Brees was leading the charge to get the league to blackball and discredit him.

It’s one thing to back your guys, but to try to hide Williams’ criminal activity AND bad-mouth the guy who documented it is complicitous and, frankly, also criminal.

  161. undercenter says:

For you people who is making fun of AS wearing his helmet – he was listining to playcalls in his transmittor.

    • 23Jordan/ BS is back. Tail between legs! says:

    • jgwindsor says:

yep listening to plays …. saw KW come and inquire

    • msclemons67 says:

Because Alex wasn’t allowed to use a headset like every other backup QB in the league.

    • Neanderthal Offense says:

Under is correct, as usual. And for all the Haters, Colin wore his helmet during games when Alex started, too. It’s obvious an Harbaugh peccadillo.

  162. Crab15 says:

    Hofer- Where you at bro?
Kap was off the hook! Celibrate Hofe!
    49er Headquarters is rockin!!!

  163. pete4mtx says:

What’s listining…oh you meant listening..ok..i bet he could hear the end of his career…lol

  164. msclemons67 says:

It looks like CK7 is the starter going forward. The coaches had to have seen Alex pouting on the sidelines during a 49ers win.

Kaepernick is now 2-0 as the 49ers starter. He’s averaging 40 more yards per game than the Adequate One and has a higher QBR.

Wally Pipp has visited San Francisco.

  165. MontanaMan16 says:

I honestly saw no advantage with Kap. Just cuz his passes are more laser like makes no difference to me. We won this game because of our defense. 16-25? AS would’ve done better. 231 yards? AS has done better against this team. AS got a longer rushing TD against these Saints last year. Is there upside? yes and no. Our coaches are conservative no matter who is in there! The haters never got there 300 yd game! The Smithers I don’t think are totally convinced. Just my honest opinion! Aint the first time we ever had a long drive. Alot of drives ended with FG’s. Or missed FG’s!!! Same sh!t different day. DEFENSE! Great TEAM win on the road tho!

    • NinerNation says:

Spoken like true smither. Who thought Kap would throw for 300? I didn’t i said he would go for 211 yrds 1 TD and run for 1 TD , my prediction on score and Kap stats was pretty close…..see here below:

    • domingo says:

How about the way he avoided the rush in the first half and made plays? that rush would have killed Smith. How about the beautiful third down throw in the third quarter that Smith could not have made in his dreams? He made three nice third down throws on that drive by the way. The D is stepping up because they know with CK that we got a real shot at the super bowl.

      • NinerNation says:

Exactly domingo, the smithers cult will always complain about so-called Alex Haters wanting fantasy stats but it ain’t about just stats. Like Jaws from ESPN said its the plays Kap makes, the defense has to defend the whole field.

    • Jack Hammer says:

      Thanks for the laugh Montana.

    • MontanaMan16 says:

Just saying, I think there’s a healthy qb competition. I’m entitled to an opinion like every one else. And I didn’t say everyone picked Kap for 300. It was more of a statement of posts long past. People said Smith cant throw for 300. Alot of haters said that was Smiths fault. Smithers said it was coaching. I know you know the argument!

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

        MontanaDude

Here’s the reality of it. The offense was more controlled under Alex, admittedly. And it’s hard to see Alex throwing an INT in that game. However, it must also be recognized that CK took NO sacks, escaped the rush several times to make BIG plays, and never once looked defeated during that game.

In my opinion, the offensive mess today, the penalties and drops, were attributable to acclimating to a new QB, but it’s better to endure these growing pains now, rather than in the playoffs.

Alex simply does not have the talent that Colin does, and it will be up to Harbaugh and Colin to use them properly. The entire offense needs to get used to protecting an elusive QB, which means being ready to block longer, and the receivers need to be ready to catch ICBMs (Moss, Crab, VD all dropsy the last 2 games).

But Montana Man, you know all this, right? I mean, you do admit that Colin has WAY more to play with than Alex, right … ?

    • 23Jordan/ BS is back. Tail between legs! says:

      Montana,

It’s gonna take you some time, I can plainly see that. You’ve got 3 days to get on board. The bandwagon is running out of room. We’d rather not have the Smithers on board, because you’re not real Noner fans. Remember, 3 days. Take those rosé colored glasses off!

      • MontanaMan16 says:

I’m for whats best for the 9ers Jordo! Just makin an argument!

      • 23Jordan/ BS is back. Tail between legs! says:

        Montana,

Your argument has no weight, therefore is has no merit. Lasers get to receivers faster and on time. They give the receivers a chance to run with the football. Look at our plays over 20 yards. 10 in 2 games. Alex had 22 in 8 1/2 games. You get it now?

    • neal says:

Montana Man, take your meds your football knowledge is next to nothing, CK has more talent in one arm then AS has in his entire body, AS could not make those throws, he would of been sacked at least 8 timers. You smithers just care about your man crush, it’s over, a new era has begun, move on Smitherine

      • MontanaMan16 says:

You know nothing about me, I’m just saying the end result was the same. You know it and I know it so go take your meds! Ur probably like 21 or something! Go sit in the corner!

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

        Neal and Jordo

Apply heat where it’s needed, dudes. MontanaMan is NOT DSL or HOF or Prime or tkamB … all if whom are crazy Alex Fluffers.

I mean, he gets that Kaep is WAY more talented than Alex, right MontanaDude … ?

      • Prime Time says:

Tarzan, talent alone won’t win us a Super Bowl!

  166. Coffee's for closers says:

VD 0 catches. It clearly isn’t about who the QB is and we clearly don’t need him to have a big game for us to win so let’s just accept that Roman doesn’t need to go out of his way to game plan to get Davis involved.

  167. Tutomate says:

I’ve been called the Smither and a hater. But I just consider myself to be just reasonable. Kapernicks Performance today was adequate Not great but good But when you consider that this is his second start ever It adds a whole lot more of weight. With two turnovers for touchdowns I think Alex could also have won this game. But to those who are reasonable I think the question of whether Alex Can win games is not even in doubt at all. What is in doubt is his ability to win the big games, Consistently. Now Kaepernick Seems to be on his way to prove that he can win both. Both the games that Alex would’ve one and the games that he wouldn’t of

    • DS94everXev says:

The stat line isn’t great against a team which allowed 400 yards every game.

      But…

      1. I don’t care about stat lines regardless.

      2. I only saw and heard bits of the game. I’ll withhold any real specifics till I’ve seen it all.

1 thing did really stand out from what I saw. A pick 6 just before half…that helps any QB/offense a ton.

      • Chicago49er says:

Good Old DS welcome back and happy thanks giving to you

      • ninermd says:

Beat it hater! Smith is on the sidelines for a reason and that reason is he can’t make throws like ck does in 3rd downs and downfield. Smith plays NOT to lose. And it finally caught up to him. Beat it wanna be

      • jsand3030 says:

you dont care about stats but you’ll just make your first comment about it huh?

      • MontanaMan16 says:

Yes, he was helped by 2 pick 6′s! Defense played great. Kap performed admirably for his 2nd start. But there were times when the entire O was way outta sinc.

      • jsand3030 says:

Ck7 played great, the 14 points the D put up was important but it takes nothing away for Kap. He stepped up into the pocket, extended plays, made strong throws down the field and had an amazing 3rd down efficiency.

    • AES says:

      Tutomate,

Not only was this CK’ second start as you said, but he was playing in an hostile environment against one the rising teams in the league.

I like CK a lot, but I still had my concerns about him being handed the keys. But he has done a few things over the last couple of weeks that expose some AS’ limitations.

I’ve seen more shots downfield in the last two games then I’ve seen over the last few weeks with AS in the line-up, even when he had his amazing game against the the Cards.

  168. Razoreater says:

Great win 49ers! Way to go! Heal thy wounds mighty warriors!

  169. 49ers took my slurpy and drank it all gone!!! says:

Looked like a great defensive win today. Kaepernick looks dynamic but I wont be suprised if Smith takes over after this game.

  170. NinerNation says:

Brees looks pissed off on the podium right now on the Point After show. LOL!

  171. highpriest333 says:

    Georgio Tavechio time?

  172. ribico says:

That was a big win for the team and it’s new QB. Proves the Chicago outing was not a fluke for CK – he can also prevail in the grind ‘em out situations too. The defense looked a little shaky first few drives in the first half, but they were knocking the fillings out in the second.

Even without ALex playing I guess I’ll still have to use my tickets for the New England game ;)

OK, tonight. Who do we strategically root for? Do we want the Giants possibly out for the count? Or do we want a resurgent Green Bay? Both will be tough in the playoffs.

  173. Chicago49er says:

    Grant your prediction came true:)

I was not sure starting CK was the right move in NO but i have to give credit to the coaching staff to make this decision.

I am extremely impressed with Cks ability to move in the pocket and extend the play! If this was 20 of the other qbs in the leaque we would have given up at least 6 sacks in this game! Ck is only going to get better with more experience and maturity! GO NINERS

    • domingo says:

Yep. That first half pass rush was really coming after CK. I think he was sacked once but it could have been more.

  174. Crab15 says:

Who can make a play? Kap can!

  175. jgwindsor says:

    not new….

  176. 49er42 says:

Kap brings a dynamic to the offense that Alex doesn’t. However, he still needs a lot of work. Moss bailed him out of a pick in the end zone. Kap has shown he can play the position, but he isn’t ready for Canton yet.

    • Chicago49er says:

for sure Ck still needs to learn and grow in his position. He is going to make mistakes and hopefully learn from it down the road! GO NINERS a HUGE WIN FOR US TODAY!

  177. foamingatdamouth says:

The offense was 6/13 on 3rd down conversions and gave up zero sacks. That’s the reason why Harbaugh made the change at QB.

  178. Tyrant.com says:

The pass protection needs 2 improve. Kap has the ability to make huge play if given a little time. He was truly amazing considering he was under siege the whole game. We have something special here. Deal with it Smithers.
