49ers Week 11 grades: Offense

SAN FRANCISCO – The 49ers destroyed the Chicago Bears 32-7 Monday night. Here are the grades for the 49ers offense.

Offensive line: A. They opened holes and gave Kaepernick plenty of time to throw in the pocket. They only gave up one sack, and that sack was Kaepernick’s fault – all his receivers were covered and he didn’t throw the ball away.

Running backs: A. Frank Gore had 78 yards on 17 carries, including four runs of more than 10 yards. Kendall Hunter broke tackles and gained 27 yards on five carries. These two guys are clearly two of the best running backs in the NFL.

Wide receivers: A-. Kyle Williams did a great job getting open deep and making the tough over-the-shoulder catch. Mario Manningham did a good job juking defenders, especially on his 37-yard reception. Michael Crabtree did a good job getting himself open in the back of the end zone when Kaepernick was extending the play. Randy Moss caught one pass and let a bullet fly through his hands. Perhaps Kaepernick throws too hard for him.

Tight ends: A-. Vernon Davis had a terrific game. He caught a game-high six catches for 83 yards and a touchdown. He could have had close to 150 yards and two touchdowns, but Kaepernick barely overthrew him on a deep pass. Delanie Walker caught one and dropped one like he seems to do every week.

    Best OLine in football.

  2. OpenMinded says:

Sounds like the convergence of the perfect storm when everyone, including the coaches get an “A”! That Rams game was a wake up call and everyone showed up to play tonight and needs to show up in the Superdome next game.

I thought the Bear D was good? Maybe they are more like the Packer D from last year getting all those TO’s, and if they don’t, they stink.

Nice by all around. CK, FG (He should get 2 paid as an OL for a few blocks like the VD TD), the OL…most of that game nobody got near CK. A one leged man could have ran the Boston Marathon with the time (and space) CK had.

Niners pattern this year. You’d best hope we didn’t win the previous week, because if we didn’t, just give up before the opening kickoff. You’ll have the same result as if you played – the bruises.

      Hey DS9

Nice post. Good job not being blinded by your Alex bias. Perhaps you are more reasonable than we had surmised.

      Lets keep it up!

      • Crab15 says:

Neanderthal – What the hell are you talking about? DS said the Bears D sucks and the O-line and Gore gave enough time for any QB to have a good game.

It would take you forever to go thru all the blogs since the pre-season, but I’ve said the whole time I’d like to have 2 good players (QB’s) rather than 1. Using the Warriors as an example. You don’t get better by trading away your good players hoping the new guys are good. Best to keep both, and work on adding a 3rd. Justlike we did in our empire days.

32 points against the 2nd best defense in the league. Not the Bills or the Jets. A truly good defense.

    That’s an A in anyone’s book.

No mention of Julius Peppers in this article or post game or during game…

    • Rusty_in_OC says:

Good point. I remember one of the talking heads warning Colin on the air, before the game—”Don’t try to run…Julius Peppers will chase you down.”
Then I remember CK gliding away from Peppers on at least one occasion. And I don’t remember every hearing his name called. Sweet!

  6. La-La Land says:

Just love Frank Gore. He does so much for us, without the Right Coast fawning given to AP or Ray Rice.

  7. Pete says:

Shocked DWalker didn’t get traded before the deadline. There would have been some team needing a guy like him and he’s going to be a FA.

    • Mr. Automatic says:

The 49ers are going to pay Walker next year. He does way too much for this offense to let him go. Bank on it.

      • Rusty_in_OC says:

I agree, Auto. More than a couple of analysts have pointed out that he’s Mr. Flexible for the Niners, in that he does so many different things. His pass catching can be suspect at times, but then, he’s made some great catches, too. Hard to see the Niners letting him go ANYWHERE!
