Bears-49ers live blog: Pregame

SAN FRANCISCO — This is the live blog for the pregame of the 49ers Week 11 Monday night home game against the Chicago Bears. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

3:17 Mindi Bach is reporting Colin Kaepernick got the majority of the practice reps toward the end of the week.

3:21 Scott Tolzien is on the field throwing warm up passes to Garrett Celek. No sign yet of Kaepernick.

3:30 Alex Smith is on the field. He’s wearing a sweatshirt and shorts, and he’s saying hello to Blake Costanzo.

3:50 10 minutes until the inactive players are announced.

3:59 Alex Smith is talking to Josh McCown on the sideline.

4:08 Here are the 49ers inactives: Brandon Jacobs, Alex Smith, A.J. Jenkins, LaMichael James, Trenton Robinson, Joe Looney and Ian Williams.

4:25 Here are the Bears inactives: QB Jay Cutler, WR Dane Sanzenbacher, DB D.J. Moore, G/C Edwin Williams, DT Matt Toeaina, DE Cheta Ozougwu and DE Shea McCellin.

4:32 The Bears’ No.3 CB D.J. Moore is inactive, so Kelvin Hayden will fill his role for the Bears tonight.

5:00 Lance Briggs just did the Thizzelle Dance in the middle of the Bears team huddle.

5:10 Patrick Willis just led the 49ers pregame huddle. Now both teams are running back to their locker rooms.

5:13 I just ran into Greg Roman in the locker room. He says he’s doing good.

5:19 Jerry Rice is sprinting back and forth across the field and waving to the crowd like a wrestler in a giant wrestling ring.

5:20 Rice drops his first pass from Young, but he catches the second one for a touchdown.

  2. niner4life11 says:

    Is Brandon Jacobs active?

    • Grant Cohn says:

They’ll announce that in 45 minutes.

      • Neal says:

I doubt it if they have to put Tolzein on the roster.

      • BigBrad184 says:

No Alex on the active roster tonight though Neal so I don’ t think that will impact the decision. My guess would be is that maybe they don’t activate someone in the secondary (McBath or Brock maybe).

      • Neal says:

        BigBrad

I don’t understand why Alex is on the active roster, that makes no sense if he can’t play.

      • BigBrad184 says:

Correct, Alex will not be on the active roster tonight and Tolzien will be taking his usual spot on the active roster instead. So I was just trying to point out that this does not impact Brandon Jacobs’ status for tonight because the net change in “normal” active roster spots is unchanged with Alex being out.

      • Neal says:

        Big Brad,

        Got it.

    • BigBrad184 says:

That would seem like a good decision for today’s game. I think they need to run the ball 40 times today and it’s crucial that they convert a high percentage of their short yardage and goal line situations, which I thought is why they signed Jacobs in the first place.

  3. MidWestNiner says:

Take it to the Bears Niners!

  4. Crab15 says:

  5. Razoreater says:

CK7 is getting the “speech” from Coach before he comes out…Would love to see the kid introduce himself to the nation with an explosive performance. Go Forty Niners!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. jgwindsor says:

  7. The Grinch says:

  8. Crab15 says:

I expect Harbaugh to out coach Lovie Smith. This game is huge for playoff positioning. Did you hear that? Just popped first beer.

  9. Crab15 says:

Who names their kid Lovie? Why not Grant, Neal, Brad or Razor?

  10. Crab15 says:

Jimi put a successful curse on the Cardinals but was unable to curse the Rams last week (busy with a foxey lady) but Jimi is back with a Bears curse!!

  11. LSX says:

    49ers win 26-10.

    GO NINERS!

  12. jgwindsor says:

have to hope bears don’t get off to a fast start like the rams did….

niners defense seems to be have excellent potential but it has been taken apart a few times….

looking forward to hoping see some spark from CK…he is so damn loose and it could really show up in a gunslinger sort of way….if he throws the ball with a lot more zip then those bear defenders may not be able to close that window and that is when a rcver has that advantage on the defender the advantage of deeking the defender because the defender has to play that much closer distance wise and can blow past on double hitches

can CK really make his internal clock slow down and have better pre-snap reads….if he can look out

  13. tinsel says:

I don’t get why brandon is inactive? Smh
