Bears-49ers live blog: Second quarter

SAN FRANCISCO — This is the live blog for the second quarter of the 49ers Week 11 Monday night home game against the Chicago Bears. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

6:16 On second and three, Kaepernick hits Davis for an easy gain of 32 yards.

Kaepernick’s first half stat line: 12 for 15, 184 yards (12.3 yards per attempt), 1 TD, 140 QB rating.

6:19 On second and ten from the Bears 14, Kaepernick hands off the Kendall Hunter on a read option, and Hunter breaks two tackles to score the touchdown. 17-0 Niners two minutes into the second quarter. They’ve scored on all three possessions. This is a one-round knockout.

6:26 On first down, Campbell drops back and gets sacked immediately by Aldon Smith. He now has 11.5 sacks on the season, tied for 2nd-best in the NFL.

6:27 On third and 12, Campbell floats a pass to Tarell Brown on the sideline. Brown picks it off easily. 49ers ball at the Bears 44 yard line. This is going to be a blowout. The Bears absolutely cannot compete.

6:28 Moss dropped a bullet from Kaepernick earlier and hurt his finger, but he’s going back into the game. Campbell has a 0.0 QB rating.

6:36 On third and 11 from the Bears 31, Kaepernick hits Crabtree underneath. Crabtree breaks two tackles and picks up 20 yards. Great play by Crabtree.

6:38 On third and 11 from the Bears 12, no 49er receiver go open, so Kaepernick held double-clutched the ball in the pocket and got crunched between two Bears defenders for a sack. Akers makes a field goal to make the score 20-0.  The 49ers have scored on all four possessions.

6:41 The Bears come out and run on first and second down for a combined loss of one yard, and then gain nothing on a third down screen pass. Their offensive coordinator Mike Tice is predictable, unimaginative and just plain awful

6:45 On third and four, Kaepernick steps up in the pocket and scrambles forward for three yards. Andy Lee will punt for the first time with 2:42 left in the first half.

6:47 Good vs. Pathetic: The 49ers are averaging 8 yards per play. The Bears are averaging 1.1 yards per play.

6:48 On first and 10 from the Bears 11, Aldon Smith gets his third sack of the first half. Every 49er is playing better in this game. Kaepernick has energized the entire team.

6:53 The 49ers get the ball back at their 38 yard line with 1:39 left in the first half and one timeout remaining.

6:55 On third and 2, Crabtree drops a low pass from Kaepernick. Andy Lee punts. Bears ball at their 7 yard line.

6:58 The Bears let the clock run out. 20-0 49ers at halftime.

    Unbelievable!

  2. undercenter says:

    CK is looking very good.

    • Adam says:

I don’t see much to critique. Slightly better touch on a few balls but otherwise, real nice game so far.

If he wins this I wouldn’t be surprised if Harbaugh stats with the hot hand.

  3. Adam says:

This thing here could be a blowout.

  4. HeyLittleGirl says:

CK7 looking like a right-handed Steve Young. Nice.

  5. undercenter says:

    Geez !!!!

  6. domingo says:

    This offense is energized!

  7. domingo says:

What a performance against the number one defense.

  8. MidWestNiner says:

    Looking good Niners!

  9. Jp says:

Hey Grant. You going to mention the CK7 almost broke Moss’s finger?

    • Islandguy49ers says:

Yeah the WR’s definitely have to get ready for that fast ball. No excuse though. Ball in hand is a ball in hand.

  10. Islandguy49ers says:

I am always down for playing the best people on the field. So far it is looking like Kap may have taken A. Smith’s job. I’m thinking someone needs to pay the doctor to fail A. Smith’s concussion test one more time so we can see Kap against the Saints on Sunday. And that will be the “changing of the guard” game.

  11. matt says:

Did I say Kaepernick wasn’t ready? He appears to making a mockery of my opinion of him.
I’m actually excited about what this team has done with him tonight on a national stage.
I laughed when Grant posted Kaepernick could unseat Smith as the starting QB if he had a good game tonight. It was a nice thought but so is winning the lottery. I have to credit you Grant, you nailed it again this week leading up to the game. Now if you could just give some insight on 5 numbers and a mega number….

  12. LSX says:

Niners are looking fantastic! CK7 leading the way. Excellent start

  13. angusinCanada says:

Incredible start by Kaepernick and the 49ers!
Only knock on Kaep I can think of is he possibly sprained Moss’ finger with a laser! lol!
What I really like is he hasn’t prematurely looked to make a play with his legs…..all good stuff!

  14. Big Suede says:

I was sick of the niner offense during that Arizona game- I said on this board that I wanted Smith to get out so Kaepernick could use the weapons on this team.

I was told I was an idiot by the majority.

Just wanted to say….. I told you so.

Also told you that the niners needed to be aggressive and throw deep on this Bears D (since they were going stack the box)

    Big Suede tells you first.

    • angusinCanada says:

      You’re still an idiot.
Smith and the 49ers dismantled a good defence in Arizona. If Kaepernick continues to play lights out and ultimately takes the reins, that’s no knock on Smith, but rather a credit to Kaepernick’s talents, of which I hope this is the tip of the iceberg!

    • 23jordan/I told you so. says:

Not by me Big Suede. not by me!

  15. Classic Niner says:

Can we finally cut Alex now? ;)

  16. domingo says:

Our run first QB is looking pretty good!

  17. LSX says:

    Campbell LOL

  18. undercenter says:

This game is going to be a beat down if the Bears dont wake up.

  19. MidWestNiner says:

    Intercepted!

  20. Scooter_McG says:

    Go Kaep!!

Wow, the 2nd year pass rushers are really dominating this season. Aldon Smith, Von Miller, JJ Watt, Robert Quinn – what a great draft for pass rushers it was…

  21. Hov says:

    Bye bye Alex smith

  22. michael says:

Grant seamed tension between Kap and Moss after that play.

  23. angusinCanada says:

At this rate, we might get some 4th qtr Tolzien action!

  24. MidWestNiner says:

Amazing how many yappers are whining the I TOLD YOU bit and not enjoying the game.

  25. big niner says:

    gore is beasting

  26. big niner says:

    why get cute?

  27. MidWestNiner says:

    Bad call there Roman.

  28. 23jordan/I told you so. says:

I hate it when we get too cute!!!

    • big niner says:

he had him sprint left while he’s a right throwing player? really? most Qb’s can’t make that throw!!!

      • BigP says:

In fairness to Roman, that is something that CK is usually exceptional at. They constantly talked about that during the draft process.

  29. HeyLittleGirl says:

GREAT wham play by Gore and the O-line.

  30. LSX says:

And in typical Greg Roman fashion, we kill our momentum with a BS play call

  31. big niner says:

    flex Crabs

  32. BigP says:

    Crabs just beasted.

  33. domingo says:

This is what it looks like when a QB energizes his team.

  34. 23jordan/I told you so. says:

    Big P,

I’m really starting to worry about Hofer!! Somebody please put out an APB for Hofer! We have a Hofer sighting. He’s been spotted in his underwear on the Golden Gate Bridge. He threatening to jump!

    • 23jordan/I told you so. says:

he says he want to talk to Kap right away!!

    • Prime Time says:

Kap has not made any throw that Alex has not made. This game is a mirror image of the Cards game.

      • Prime Time says:

Just held the ball too long, gotta throw it away!

      • 23jordan/I told you so. says:

HILARIOUS! Turn on your TV prime and watch the game. you’re missing a great passing exhibition. NO CHECKDOWNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Prime Time says:

The Bears were clearly overrated. This is an inferior opponent.

      • Nick says:

        Primate
That tops all other stupid posts you’ve made to date

      • Jack Hammer says:

        Prime,

How does that egg on your face taste?

      • Prime Time says:

Jack Alex makes all those throws and completions that CK made that half. What was different from that half to the half against the Cardinals?
Bears are clearly not very good. CK was good but nothing that Alex has not or cannot do.

      • Nick says:

Primate how about posting under Axel Foley to save face?

      • 23jordan/I told you so. says:

        Neal, Jack,

Have you notice that nobody has agreed to what prime keeps blabbing about Smith making the same throws that Kap has made on this game. That throw to Kyle Williams!! This fool doesn’t understand that Smith does not have the arm strength to make that throw!

      • Jack Hammer says:

        Prime,

Who said anything about Alex? Remember this gem from this morning?

        Prime Time says:
        November 19, 2012 at 8:38 am
And when Kaepernick comes out and looks like a deer in headlights tonight and coughs up the ball, it will be an epic night cause then finally you haters will realize he is not ready. I can’t wait to see the egg on your faces later this evening.
I hope we win and the kid plays great. I don’t think that happens against a defense like the Bears. If you thought Roman was conservative with Alex, tonight will be like watching paint dry on offense.
I will not be surprised to see Kap try and do too much as he knows this might be his chance to be the starter moving forward. This is not the time and it will hurt the team by him forcing things and not being patient.
        Well see.

      • pete4mtx says:

        Prime
        Lol i luv it
        P.S.
All smithers say goodbye to AS

      • Neal says:

I have ignore Prime Axel for a week and will continue to, to much waste of energy and time for a nobody. Every throw that CK is making, JH is saying in a whiney voice, oh AS did that against the Cards and Bills. Yea I am sure that is happenning. Prime is just talking jive turkey smither. CK is the real deal, thank goodness this blog will be cleanse and the Smithers will folow their man else where.

      • Prime Time says:

When a hater agrees with me, I will shoot myself. That throw to Williams? We have seen that a ton. Like I said this game plan and execution is the exact same as the Cards game.

      • Prime Time says:

Ohhhh Neal a whole week, wow that is remarkable! You guys blew your load too early with Kap. He is not doing anything spectacular. He good by there is no upgrade there. You guys would be creaming your pants if it was Mother Theresa back there. No difference. Defence, running game and guys getting open. That’s 49er football.

      • 23jordan/I told you so. says:

        One difference,

Guys getting open and not getting the football! Not tonight though. We are blowing the bears defense off of the field! Prime, once again, you are embarrassing!

    • big niner says:

Lets no get disrespectful man. We’re winning. Enjoy it!!

  35. LSX says:

another great decision and throw by CK7. Crabtree is a beast

    • angusinCanada says:

He is a stud receiver, that’s for sure. They need to throw more wr pop screens to him. He’s so much stronger and faster than he looks.

  36. 23jordan/I told you so. says:

Gotta get rid of that Kap!!!!!!! Throw it away!

  37. neal says:

CK is ready to take us to the promise land, He is the real.deal.

  38. MidWestNiner says:

Should have thrown that away CK. No need to be part of a Bears sandwich.

  39. 23jordan/I told you so. says:

4 drives, 4 scores!!!! That’s the 49er football I’m talking about. This is the way you get these backups involved late in the 3rd quarter!!!

  40. MidWestNiner says:

    Defense is ballin’.

  41. fesnyc says:

aside from being wrong about Kaep’s accuracy, i am just plain giddy.

this game feels like one from the 80s

  42. 23jordan/I told you so. says:

    PATRICK !!!!!!

  43. MidWestNiner says:

Our team showed up tonight whilst the Bears look like they’re still in Chicago.

  44. BigP says:

Time to grind this game down. It might be the shortest second half in NFL history.

  45. fesnyc says:

Kaep is too valuable – gotta teach that young man to slide once in a while

  46. Adam says:

One more TD and this one is ovah!

  47. 23jordan/I told you so. says:

Punt the ball! We’ll bury em in the 2nd half!

  48. MidWestNiner says:

    Sack!

  49. big niner says:

    Aldon!!

  50. 23jordan/I told you so. says:

This blog is about to be jumpin!!!!!!! minus a few Smithers. bwahahahaha!

  51. BigP says:

Justin Smith just rag dolls O-linemen, it is pretty amazing. Just old school, brute force.

  52. Adam says:

Chicago O-line… Chilo. Enough said. No wonder Cutler is out.w

  53. BigP says:

The Bears have fifteen yards of offense in this game.

    • angusinCanada says:

I have them in my fantasy football. If they kick ass, I’ll win this week, notwithstanding that the guy I’m playing had both Schaub and Andre Johnson playing! GO Niners!

  54. Prime Time says:

Chicago forget it was a football game. They are terrible!

    • BigP says:

No they aren’t, the Niners are beating the crap out of them. They didn’t get to 7-2 on accident, this is what the Niners do when they play to their potential.

    • MidWestNiner says:

I hate to admit it, but Prime is right. They’ve had a pretty weak first half schedule. Their record is inflated.

  55. 49er42 says:

Hey we need to keep the pressure on. No letting up “no buying a ticket “.

  56. fesnyc says:

    2nd half = sacktime

  57. 23jordan/I told you so. says:

    Boobie!!

  58. 23jordan/I told you so. says:

Bad pass Kap. 3rd and 2, take off and get thatvand get out of bounds!

  59. Fourth & Alex says:

Kaep might exceed Alex’s yards per game average in the first half.

  60. Crab15 says:

23J – CK hates Crabtree for some reason.

    • 23jordan/I told you so. says:

You gotta be joking Crabs. Crabtree has 2 receptions I believe. For about 30 yards. If he picks up 2 more for 30 in the 2nd half, he’s got his game average.

    • ribico says:

Hates Crabs? No way, #15 picked up that 3rd and long like he’s been doing all season.

  61. neal says:

The good news Smithers, you don’t have to drink that nasty kool-aid

  62. Prime Time says:

Now Greg Roman and the conservative play calling takes over. I was impressed at first but CK has not done anything extraordinary.

  63. ribico says:

    S’up faithful? ;)

    Everybody happy? Kaep the uniter!

    Go Niners, go Kaep!

  64. MidWestNiner says:

Great first half. The team is looking real good.

  65. rebelscum says:

Kaep is making very quick decisons! Every one is juiced. Like I said before, I am impressed how much a fighter Alex is and he never gives up, but man I just never thought Alex had”it” whatever the hell that is, Colin is raw but he sure seems to have more “it” then Alex has shown to this point. Kendall Hunter looks very elusive. Hope this is a fun begining!

  66. MontanaMan16/Gobble Gobble Turkey says:

To be honest, u can’t tell wich qb is in there! 1 td pass 1 td run and a couple field goals. Nothing different!

    • MontanaMan16/Gobble Gobble Turkey says:

      Having a great time tho!

    • big niner says:

What? Alex never makes that throw to KW. His arm is way stronger!!

    • Prime Time says:

Exactly. A perfect game plan that is being executed and a defense making it very easy. This is a complete team effort. I don’t see much difference.

    • 23jordan/I told you so. says:

In the 1st half in 4consecutive drives?? You couldn’t see the difference. You really didn’t see the throws down the field? C’mon man!

    • msclemons67 says:

      12-15, 173 yards, 1 td 0 INT

That’s an entire game for your Precious. Kaepernick just did that in one half against one of the best defenses in the league.

And of course Moss and Crabtree dropped passes boo hoo, boo hoo, excuse, excuse.

  67. oldcoach says:

We may have a new QB. Now lets all behave ourselves with a little class those who backed AS be true 9er fans and unconditionaly back CK and those who did’nt back AS respect those who did as true 9er fans because we all bleed red and gold. go niners

  68. domingo says:

Harbaugh a little conservative on those last two drives.

  69. ninermd says:

Well. If CK was to take the starting job. We would have the best damn back up in the league. Depth my fellow faithful… Depth. It’s electric here and bears fans are sitting on their paws. Lol what’s with this conservative crap at the end of the half? Put your foot on their damn throats. Wheeeeeeeeeew!

  70. Hank says:

Kap is playing lights out! I too believe AS would be doing the same thing against this team. That being said, and before the controversy
I am a 49er fan. FAN not the coach. Harbaugh will play who he feels gives the team the best chance to win. Period.

  71. rebelscum says:

He can even audible, I think Alex has been Wally Pipped!

  72. Nick says:

Hell yeah. CK7 has earned the right to be the starting QB.

  73. Nick says:

The 8 year experiment is officially over

    It feels so good.

  74. MontanaMan16/Gobble Gobble Turkey says:

    We make statements on MNF!
