NEW ORLEANS – Here’s what Alex Boone said about Colin Kaepernick after the 49ers beat the Saints 31-21.
Q: How did Colin play?
BOONE: Awesome.
Q: What was your impression of some of the throws he made?
BOONE: Unbelievable. I think he did a great job. He had some pressure today, but he got out of it and made some great plays. I’m proud of him coming to this stadium in front of 75,000 strong screaming at you. The effort he gave today was awesome.
Q: What’s his demeanor like in the huddle?
BOONE: Very calm, very cool, very collected. He knows what he’s doing, he gets us the play and he gets us out.
Q: Was he always that way or has he developed it?
BOONE: He’s always been that way. Last week against Chicago he was the same way. He came in and said, “Ok, let’s do this, let’s go.” I thought he did a fantastic job last week. I thought he did a very, very good job this week. I’m just proud of him and happy for him.
Q: Does he seems like a veteran at those times?
BOONE: Sometimes he does. You see him in those key situations where you really need your quarterback to step up, and he’s very calm, cool, collected. You can count on him to be there.
Q: Do you assume he’s going to be the starting quarterback the rest of the way?
BOONE: I don’t assume anything. I’m an offensive lineman. I just do what I’m told. I go out and punch people.

Does anyone remember what he was on 3rd downs? Cant remember but it was way better than AS has done at any point
nevermind, 6-13… almost 50%
Wow…so much better than AS! Sarcasm.
Defense won this game. Not Kaep. Don’t fish for reasons to overdo the praise on the kid.
@Niners
Aahhh! Refreshing!!! Someone actually watched the same game I did!
Umm, Alex has been historically bad on 3rd down. 50% is nowhere near as bad as the Precious.
@Montana
Yeah someone watched the game with the same bias, lol. 6/13 on third down and zero sacks.
I didnt watch the game -sarcasm. Defense played great but Kap did things that AS cant do. there were no sacks today for a reason. The line didnt hold up as well as last week and CK got out of trouble making throws on the run and stepping up into the pocket. Thats all my point is. You dont like CK thats fine, but the facts are the facts
@ Foaming
And why would I be biased? I am neither a Smither nor a Kapper! I am a Niner. I’m allowed an opinion. and I can create arguments whenever I want about whatever I want. They say Smith would’ve been sacked 6 times today. I say they know better than to pressure Smith like that. That was a game plan for a young Kap. That was perfectly clear going into it. Kap played admirably. Nothing special IMO!
Not only was he better than decent on 3rd downs, ohter than when Manningham ran a 3-yard route on 3rd and 4, but also two of his more impressive throws went for naught as the 36 yard gain down the right sideline was called back for a penalty and the drop (riccochet) off of the chest of VD would have been for a huge gain. CK’s stats would have been better with those two plays plus he definitely ran out of several sacks. Very good performance on the whole considering the crowd noise, etc.
This kid is a player and the crown jewel who might just be good enough to take the 49ers all the way. If Big Ben could do it for the Steelers, this kid can do it for the Niners.
@Montana
You are entitled to your opinion. Your correct that Kaep didn’t play great. However, he played an overall good game to lead his team to victory in a tough road game. Most importantly he gained valuable experience for the playoffs.
But let’s not pretend that we don’t have our biases or preferences for QB. I’m 100% against Alex Smith, I believe him to be the bane of the Niner’s Super Bowl hopes and I’m enjoying the liberation of Harbaugh’s offense.
I think that we can agree that if something bad happened to whichever one is the starter, we have a capable backup to come in, unlike Houston, Chicago and about 90% of the other teams out there!
How can anyone hate Kap? He is the consummate pro with a ton of potential. The bigger issue here is are we compromising his development with the expectation to get us to the SB and then have to win it?
No doubt he has all the tools. But if they knew he was the future and could lead them with this kinda talent, why wait til week 12?
It was an unorthodox move. I really hope it works out. Today he got the win but it was nothing like what the haters predicted. Not explosive and not once did he take the top off the defense or utilize his best weapon.
Can’t argue with calm and cool. He’s always had that going on!
He believes it’s his destiny. And he’ll work to make it happen.

I thought Kaep played pretty well. He was very good at avoiding the pressure and still looking to make a play with his arm. 2 mistakes, the pick and the moss pass, so not perfect by any means, but pretty good. Unless he craps the bed, I think Alex might want to trade the helmet in for a cap and headphones.
Not much of a running game today. The offense shot themelves in the foot on a couple drives.
Defense was awesome, of course.
Roman got pass happy again. Someone need to slap him when he does that.
If the 49ers had pounded the rock I don’t think this game would have been close.
Clemons, it kind of reminds me of the Ravens and when they forget they have a stud named Ray Rice.
Clemons I think the coaching staff sending a clear message to the NFL that if you load the box we will burn you! GO NINERS
AMen MSC!!! I couldn’t stop yelling at my TV for them to run the Friggin Ball!!
Love Boone…just go out and punch people in the mouth… -L- Thank you Doctor Bob…
Second game starting guys, made some great throws, had a couple mistakes, our offense made a lot of mistakes too with dumb penalties. Overall very impressed with Kaep, a lot higher ceiling than Smith! See moss coaching him – awesome!
Zero sacks! Smith always holds onto the ball too long, panics, and then takes a couple sacks. This is why you stay with Kaep!
Great win by the team. Any news on Hunter and Williams?
+1 Wow. Great minds ;)
Not a good sign when 2 guys are carted off, let alone on the same play. I was hoping to see a change to Williams in the return game with Ginn struggling. Maybe LMJ?
I don’t know about LMJ on returns. He looked plenty shaky in preseason
Would like to see him now as opposed to the playoffs if they need him in a pinch but I hear you. My guess is Williams is done for a while. Grabbing the knee when there was no contact is never good.
I would think Ginn still keeps that gig. But if, god forbid, he goes down, then what? NFCCG all over again?
That’s my concern, Rib, plus Ginn just hasn’t looked the same this season.
Rib/Sean,
Per Barrows, a league source is indicating Williams may have torn ligaments in his knee and be out for the rest of the season.
Thanks Jack. That’s bad news, hate that to happen to any player.
We’ll (likely) miss Kyle on ST. Maybe they activate LMJ next week. Then either activate Tuk or AJJ. It will be interesting to see which way they play it.
I was thinking about the biggest upside for Kaep, and that is cool and confident and the whole team plays more relaxed and doesn’t press. It’s like everyone has to play their A game for Alex to do well, where with Kaep there is some wiggle room for mistakes.
It’s not a knock on Alex, he needs a new start. He was playing well before he go hurt. Watching Kaep play is watching Aaron Rodgers back there.
Yep.
Fansince77, I thought of Aaron Rodgers too, also Steve Young. Rodgers and Kaep came out of high school lucky they found one college and one university would give them a football scholarship.
I have a feeling both Rodgers and Kaep had a good sense of their own worth, physically and mentally–to overcome that initial disappointment and then use it to drive themselves to their goal.
Yeah he just has that “it.” The D won the game today and Alex, especially since he was playing well and beat the Saints last year, could have done well too. But it was when the game got tight, you can just sense the KAEP didn’t back down from the moment, and instead rose to the occassion. Even when he didn’t do well, he was not going to back down. And that’s the deal. Hard to pick against Alex the rest of the way because both QBs are doing well. It would be interesting to see who goes against Tom Brady and the Pats.
except everyone else is playing their A game
GO Colin and the NINERS
