NEW ORLEANS – Here’s what Jim Harbaugh said after the 49ers beat the Saints 31-21.
Q: Is Kaepernick your starting quarterback going forward?
HARBAUGH: Colin played well in a tough environment. He acquitted himself very well.
Q: Do you expect him to start next week?
HARBAUGH: We’ll address that at a later date.
Q: Was Alex able to play today?
HARBAUGH: Yes, he was cleared yesterday
Q: How do you think he played today?
HARBAUGH: I thought he did a great job managing the game, calling the game and moving the team in and out of the huddle. We were a little slow getting back to the huddle. That adjustment really helped us – speeding the tempo up.
Q: What did you think of your defense’s performace?
HARBAUGH: Big plays by the defense really swung the game. For us, two interceptions for touchdowns. Great job by Ahmad. It looked like he was shot out of a canon after he intercepted that ball. Donte Whitner, also a great job getting that touchdown.
Q: Kaepernick made a lot of third down plays. Can you talk about that aspect of his game?
HARBAUGH: It was a big part of the game – third downs on both sides. I haven’t looked at the statistics but I feel like we won those battles (49ers were 6-for-13, the Saints were 3-for-11).
(Kap) did a really nice job extending plays and we were cut at the knees with penalties in the first half, couple of throws he made getting out of the pocket.
Q: Why is he so effective on read option?
HARBAUGH: He’s got a real knack for it, he’s got a special ability, honed it in college and he’s taken it to the pro level. He can cover ground real fast. He’s got an eye for making the read. He came with that ability. I take no credit for that one.
Q: Why make QB change?
HARBAUGH: The injury and the fact that Alex had symptoms seven days later, eight days later from the concussion. Not going to put a guy back out there who has symptoms like he had. He eventually got cleared. The thought was to rotate him into the action but not all the way to the front line. Give him a chance to get cleared up completely.
Q: Why are you still hesitating naming Colin the starter?
HARBAUGH: I have nothing to explain. You call it hesitation. I don’t feel any hesitation. We’ll look at the game. We’ll make the best decision for us going forward.
Q: Did Brooks’ TD turn the game?
HARBAUGH: It was one of the big plays. It definitely turned some momentum. They had intercepted the ball, and the interception turned into a touchdown and we come out with seven.
Also, I think coming out after halftime – that was a huge drive and a big momentum swing for our team. Late in the game we had another long drive. Didn’t get the touchdown and made it a two score game.
Q: Why didn’t Ginn return to the game?
HARBAUGH: He had an issue with his wrist and hand.
Q: How important was that drive to open the second half?
HARBAUGH: It was big. It was a clean drive, cleanly executed, no penalties. It showed what our team was capable of doing.
Q: What happened on Kaepernick’s interception?
HARBAUGH: He got a low snap. That was part of it. When his eyes came up he worked the high-level read when he he probably should have just brought it down to the lower-level read. He had a high low read on that play and didn’t see the corner.

He doesn’t have to name a starter. I already did, 8 weeks ago. COLIN KAEPERNICK is the starter. Case closed. Alex, take that helmet off during games.
Didn’t you name Josh Johnson the starter? Blind squirrel, enjoy that nut.
All kidding aside, Colin has looked really good in 2 tough games. The superdome is a tough place to get a win. Hopefully this was the first of two there this season.
Alex is through in SF.
oh boy, the man can talk for 30 minutes and say absolutly nothing. I think he respects AS and will give him a proper send off then using the media as a thorn.
You two sound a little paranoid that the door is still open for Alex to return. Of course Harbaugh is just lying right?
Buwjahahahhahahahajja!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL. Harbs wants the other teams to guess for as long as he can milk it before he says what we already know….KAP IS THE MAN. Period.
Not lying, he knows he will go with Kaep, just player respect with a private meeting Every former starting QB deserves that.
Our rookies may suit up next week. Bummer for both of our guys that went down. Why do we always have injuries against the Saints? Btw Akers having confidence issues.
” I thought he did a great job managing the game”
Now wasn’t that my whole point to my argument? lol
The dreaded game manager label!
Come on Harb, don’t be a hater!
I really like JH style! Who cares about the media its all about the team. Keep everything in house. GO NINERS
Harbaugh sounds as though he reading straight from Grant’s blog a little over a week or so ago. Almost verbatim.
Kevin Lynch says Harbs gave Kap a grade of A++ the last game and Kevin would give Kap the same grade for this game. Really liked the long drive were Kap was 7 for 8 on 3rd down killin the saints. Lynch said he would start Kap and not look back.
If its me, I start Alex Week#14 vs Miami, then go back to CK. Maybe week#17 I might go with CK for the 1st two or three series, then plan for Alex to finish. The Off-Season will work itself out.
Brotha, I don’t think so. The team has to give CK as much actual game experience as they can in the stretch drive.
Huh what? lol That makes zero sense.
People always want to second guess Harbs but look at what he’s done in college and the pros. Took Alex Smith off the scrap heap and made him a solid qb, took his young hand picked stud Kap from the draft and is starting him when the smithers and media say no. But……Kap is winning, ballin’, are ya all in yet?
Fantastic game for young Kaepernick. Especially considering it was his second start in the loudest stadium in the NFL.
I saw pocket presence and a rare ability to feel and escape the rush several times.
I know AS had to deal with drops as well, but Crabs and Vernon had two big drops.
No excuses though, Kaep won. And he doesn’t look like a running QB, he looks like a QB that has the ability to use his legs to extend plays.
I’m excited about the future of my team with under the guidance of JH and our franchise QB K-gun….
The plays lost to penalties, like the Crabtree play along the sideline were more frustrating than the drops.
Well said Jimmy Dugan!
Prime,
I basically don’t answer your posts because all you do is talk $hit. I thought Grant banned you. What value do you add here. You continue to make references that my boys team are girls, you welch on bets, you have several Id’s.
But worse than all of that, you don’t have a f”king clue what good Quarterbacking is. You are still bent cause Smith is not a good QB and harbaugh has spoken. The entire team has spoken. Move on Primetrash. Smith doesn’t even know how to be a good backup. He stood there on the sideline with his helmet on and a ball tucked under his arm. He looked like a bigger moron than even you if that’s possible. You are a punk.
What have you said that shows off your football knowledge? You backed AS 100%. I told you he was going to get replaced. Bet on it too. Not that betting means anything to you since you welched on ours.
A man is only as good as his word. Your word means nothing which doesn’t surprise me cause you are not a man.
How did AS look to you standing on the sideline with his helmet on? Did you pace in front of the TV singing “put me in coach, I’m ready to play today. Look at me, I could be prime times friend”.
You and your little group are done……
whatever
I’m still a little queasy about turning the reins over to CK based on AS’ injury.
While CK has yet to even scratch the surface of his talent, I can’t say that CK won the starting position from AS outright, and that’s my small contention. AS may have hit the ceiling, but he certainly didn’t do anything to lose his starting QB spot. Yes, AS has been inconsistent, but not enough to lose his starting role, and the teams overall record with him as starter attest to that.
Harbaugh is non-commital on naming next weeks starter which leads me to believe that AS may be starting. I know that Harbaugh thinks very highly of his hand-picked QB and feels that he is the future.
But I don’t feel that Harbaugh is so cold to kick AS to the curb like this.
AS will need to LOSE his job when healthy or lose his job outright to CK IMO on the practice field.
AES,
Football is a business, not a popularity contest. Do you think he cares about Smiths feelings to put them before the team’s? Alex Smith is one man. The team has 52 others. Alex has to put up or shut up. I told you Smith had reached his ceiling. It was so crystal clear. You on the other hand, made one of the most p repo steroids statements on the blog. You actually said he might be an all pro this year.
AES, you and I are as cool as a fan. I know you feel for Alex and the Smithers. Jim Harbaugh does not. He’s gonna continue to take advantage of what he believes is a competitive advantage by not naming a starting quarterback for the rest of the season if he doesn’t have to.
As it turns out, Jim Trotter was right. Kap started and played the whole game. EAlex Smith is officially a 2nd stringer. The Smithers are struggling with it. I know you don’t have a problem with it though. The Smithers will be fine, in San Diego next year.
23J,
Yes, I did predict that AS would be an all-pro this season, and yes, I completely missed the target. But I made that claim before the start of the season based on what AS had done last year and against the Saints in the playoffs.
I really felt that AS would only improve and continue to elevate his game under Harbaugh’ umbrella. I honestly did not expect him to hit his ceiling a few games into the new season.
I was wrong, and I take complete responsibility for that.
But having said that, I still feel that CK did not win the starting position outright from AS. Having a player take another players spot because of an injury has never set well with me.
Now, is CK the better QB? Yes.
Does he have more upside? Yes, everybody has agreed ad nauseum to that.
But did he beat out AS outright, or did he take over while AS was out injured?
As I said yesterday, that is where my small contention lays.
But in the meantime, I’ll probably need to back away from the predictions (lol).
23Jordan,
Your right – there are 52 other players on this team. Harbaugh wins because he gets them to play for the team and not themselves. He did that by demonstrating that he has their back.
What he has to do is difficult. He has to transition to a player with more talent without looking like he is tossing AS to the curb and losing the “player’s coach” label that he rightly deserves. Business or not, it requires buy-in by the players to be successfull and if they feel that they are disposable commodities play will suffer.
AES,
I doubt strongly that AS will start next week, if by miracle AS does play, he will have a very short leach, and when he does his inconsistent 3 and out, he will be replaced eventually by CK. If he starts at the stick it will get ugly when he gets sacked at his usual 3 or 4 times a game.
All 3 of Kaps touchdown passes have come outside the pocket while evading the pass rush. Does Smith have 3 in 3 years?
Kap has this great gun, the K gun you haters call it? He was suppose to take the top off defenses, use VD, the best athlete on the team? No Moss, no VD and no reassurance from the head coach that he is the man? I’d say retrace all the Smithers comments about play calling, this offenses philosophy and how the Niners win by a collective effort and see if they all apply to this game. Yeah, exactly!
Smithers are now the haters LMAO, justice has been served.
The difference being, haters having nit-picked over wins for the last season and a half, have a huge head start. Smithers – just two weeks now.
By my calculation, the fanbase will reach equilibrium sometime in the 2014 season.
Rib
Will you come to your own equilibrium in Feb 2013 when the Niners win #6?
It’s unfortunate that Alex got hurt, but he did. Kap stepped up and has demonstrated what he can do. Alex is a good teammate and a tough guy, but his abilities are limited. He has hard time, avoiding the rush, extending plays, not getting balls batted at line of scrimmage, completing throws over 20 yards.
He takes too many sacks and delay of game penalties. He also takes too many sacks! Kap is better at all of those things, which makes him the best QB on the team.
Sure I feel bad for Alex because of the type of character he has demonstrated over the years. But I’m glad his days as the starting QB are over. You think New England wish Belichek had turned the team back over to Bledsoe when he was healthy? Heck NO!
Next week is the true barometer of who our starting QB is, as we knew they wouldn’t start Alex with the late concussion clearance….unless K-Gun had stunk it up last Monday, then Alex would have started.
Still say K-Gun gives us more options. By throwing long, we get the possibility of pass interference calls, which we never get with Alex. The Turlock Tornado will make more mistakes, but so does Eli. We need a risk taker.
I will take Kaps mistakes over Alex’s failure to pull the trigger anytime. Kap will only get better with each game under his belt. Good to be a Niner fan!
And it was GREAT to have Kaep play in the Superdome against a resurgent Saints D. Terrific experience for him, and Coach knew that. Can’t repeat enough, we have to stop playing with fear and just go for it. There are NO guarantees we will ever reach a title game again, so let the kid get his experience now. It worked for Brady.
This is/was possible the worst defense in football. After CK performance last week I was expecting him to light it up. He managed the game very well had a drop or two and he is able to extend the play. No doubt CK is going to be a good one. I expected more production from the offense playing against this defense. If defense doesnt score two TDs do we win this game? Hard too to say. The offensive line was up to its old tricks of not pass protecting well, to CKs credit he is able to elude the rushers. All and all a good performance by CK. Much more impressed with CK last week against a much better defense. Superdome is a hard place to play but Seattle is the worst.

@Neal
I hope you are NOT referring to as a Smither (lol).
I’m far from the AS Only group.
I want CK to be our QB, but I wanted him to win outright not take over through an injury.
To me, it’s the principle rather than the parties involved.
*to me
AES, I don’t consider you a Smither you said that CK is the better QB, you can take it up with JH how he got the starting job.
Well Neal, so far it seems that CK has started because AS has been injured.
The fact that Harbaugh has not been straight forward on the starter gives me reason to believe that it’s not a slam dunk with CK.
AS deserves a chance to either win or lose his job on the field. I would be saying the thing if CK were in Smith’ shoes.
I believe that Harbaugh/GR are still weighing out all the positives vs negatives which means they need absolute confidence in going with CK for the immediate future.
If AS loses his job over an injury, it won’t settle well with me. But I will go with the coach’s decision when he is ready to make a final committment on who the starter is.
AES, good point. I dont think it settles well in the lockeroom. Players don’t want the idea that if you get hurt, you might get replaced. That is a message you do not want reasonating through your lockeroom. Every player wether its the QB position to the Kicker deserves to have an opportunity to come back and resume his position.
Now I agree that the leash gets shorter for Alex only because CK has played well and there is no more time to experiment. We have 5 games left and after this weekend, its December football. Time to play your best and get ready to put yourself in a favorable playoff position.
Start Alex against St. Louis. Give him the game or even a quarter if you want, but at least you have shown your players that injury is not reason enough to lose your job. The other point is Alex was playing at a high level before he got hurt. Now if he wasn’t, then there would be no debate, start CK the rest of the year.
This way you show your players that you have given an injured player a chance to come back and prove he can continue to play at a high level. If he does not, then there is no explanation to make. Its a problem that has solved itself.
easy AES, you will make Neal cry.
@FDM – I have a feeling that was JH intentions all along.
Alex starts against the rams.
Its a clear explanation of why he didn’t name a new starter.
Also about the locker room, isn’t Alex the captain. Joe staley already voiced his opinion and it is very clear.
Hey Fellas
It’s this simple: if you don’t want to lose your job due to injury, don’t let the guy behind you make your play look second-class. Willis, VD, Crab, Goldson … all these guys would not be so easily replaced, but the QB position has been the weak link on this team since the beginning of last season. CK is better. That is why Alex won’t get his job back.
You might very well be right about that NO but I think the important issue here is that Harbaugh does not lose credibility with his players.
Maybe CK is a better QB for the Niners, we could debate that all day. The point is the head coach has a difficult decision in weighing what is best for the team on the field and in the lockeroom.
It really isn’t difficult at all. You play the best players. You lose the locker room when you deviate from that.
AES,
Your the one that says CK is the better QB right now. You said that AS has hit his ceiling, JH was amazed and quite happy with CK performance with the Bears and Saints. JH was looking at AS body of work, and saw what he sees in CK, that was good enough for to start , too bad it is not good enough for Smither Nation, all 7 of you. Although you are open mind. Hey was it Jack, Jordan, Bay, or me, that started CK, it was JH. Also slick Jim , needs to discuss this privately with AS and not announce it in a press conference on who is starting. It is just a formality. Also by some small miracle and AS does start against the Rams, he will be on a very short leach, a couple of sacks a few three and out. Colin is back. Maybe AS saying getting sacked maybe not a good thing. Since CK does not.
FDM,
for someone that has coached, I can’t believe you are saying to go back to AS.
Musical chairs QB? Really? At this point every snap that CK takes makes him better. They’ve chosen their direction. Why go backwards?
As far as losing the locker room, I don’t see anyone protesting much. I see excitement in the players.
The AS era is done. It’s a business and the players understand it.
Jack its not one or the other. It depends on how the players in the lockerrom react and how they view Alex and how they view CK.
NFL players view job security as a huge priority especially with non guaranteed contracts. Knowing that you could lose your job because of injury could cause major implications not only between players in the lockerrom but also the players you draft and free agents you want to attract.
Of course you play the best players, but how you do that and integrate them is a different story. Team bonding and cohesion mean everything in football.
Bay, please stop prentending you know things that you have no clue about. Its impossible to talk football with someone who makes comments like they know when you have no single idea.
You say “As far as losing the locker room, I don’t see anyone protesting much. I see excitement in the players’
Really Bay? You think players are going to protest or even campaign for one guy vesus the other?
Please stop with the immaturity, we are all adults and these type of comments result in you looking foolishly. Come back with something better and more accurate if you want to talk football.
Still pretty simple FDM. Making this shift shows every player in that locker room that what they did last week means very little, and that you need to prove yourself to be worthy of starting every time you step on the field. And if you are a backup who get’s the opportunity to get on the field and prove you are better than the starter the job can be yours.
That is far more powerful to building a strong team, than playing an inferior player out of fear you will lose the team.
Harbaugh knows exactly what he is doing here.
FDM,
why the personal attacks? You said,
“Please stop with the immaturity, we are all adults and these type of comments result in you looking foolishly. Come back with something better and more accurate if you want to talk football.”
What did I say that was immature? That Smith was average and was going to be replaced by CK? It happened. If you actually want to discuss looking foolish, lets talk about you wanting Smith back in even though he is being out performed in just about every category.
It’s tough to be wrong FDM. I’ll wait for my personal attack now.
Jack, proving yourself worthy of starting happens in practices and showing this when your opportunity arises. I get that. But not at the expense of someone not able to perform because of injury. Thats a whole other situation.
Hammer says ” And if you are a backup who get’s the opportunity to get on the field and prove you are better than the starter the job can be yours”.
Sure but not because of injury especially if the guy you replaced was playing at a high level before he got injured.
Your basically saying to your players, dont get hurt cause if you do, you might be replaced. It can cause annoymosity between teammates because you are looking for any opportuntiyt to get in there, and if it means cut throat, too bad.
Thats not how you build a team and support for oneanother. You think Alex or any other player that gets hurt and loses his job, then gets asked to come back is going to go thru the wall for you? Not likely, professional or not, human nature says otherwise. Take the business part out of it, their is a human side to it that Harbaugh has built up with his players and one of the big reasons they play so hard for oneanother and him.
You say you coached, well my experience tells me that, that philosophy results in a lot of bad chemistry between teammates.
Bay you said “that As far as losing the locker room, I don’t see anyone protesting much. I see excitement in the players.
You are not in the lockerroom, you dont know what the players are thinking or who they favor. You see excitement? Really I see everyone winning, that’s exciting even with Alex. How can you differentiate?
You see no one protesting, did you think NFL professional players would? Come on man, dont pretend you know this type of thing. You do it all the time and you have been called on making things up to prove a point. It does not work, maybe it works with your kids, but not here.
FDM, Tommy Maddox and Drew Bledsoe would like to say thank you. Both were replaced due to injury, and their teams went on to win multiple Super Bowls.
FDM / Jack Hammer
If you ever hear Eric Davis talking about playing for Seiferts Niners, you will find out that what Seifert took from Walsh was an ice-cold approach towards emotions. The Walsh Way was to let every player on the team know that his status as starter was always in doubt. Walsh strove for perfection, which is impossible to achieve, so his standards were unattainable, but his star players never stopped striving. Jerry Rice and Joe Montana put hard work and top talent together to become legendary. Steve Young, while not as instinctively gifted as Montana, nonetheless studied the game so hard and learned so much under Walsh and by watching Montana that he eventually became the league’s most efficient passer in history.
Harbaugh sits pretty with his locker room whatever his move is going forward. On the one hand (Kaepernick) he has the superior talent who is cool under pressure (Montana). On the other hand (Smith), he has the earnest, hard working smart guy (Young).
Montana won 4 Superbowls. Young only won 1. I think CK is the obvious choice.
Jack dont know Tommy Maddox situation but for Brees, was it not a shoulder injury and he was out for an extended period of time and coming up on free agency? Im guessing so do not quote me on that.
Lastly, why is everyone so concerned about giving Alex another chance? If he stinks it up against the Rams then we know CK is the future. Like I said, give him a quarter. Nothing to lose right. You guys seem a little worried but if you say he is the weak link and his play demonstrates that CK is far superior, not of it will matter will it? At the end of the day, your players will respect you more for giving the guy a chance once healthy. You should lose your job because someone is better, not because you got hurt.
“why is everyone so concerned about giving Alex another chance?” Because Kaepernick is a better quarterback and this team won’t reach the Super Bowl this season with Smith.
Tarzan looks like you are another Niner moron fan living in the past. You think Seifert and Walsh’s way are the be all end all of how to manage today’s NFL players? Get real!
As for you knowing how Harbaugh sits with his locker room, again, you have no clue!
Memo to all haters. You don’t know what the players and coaches are thinking. You don’t have special powers that allows you to read minds. Stop fooling yourselves.
FDM,
Tommy Maddox bounced around the league, and eventually found a home in Pittsburgh and took them to the playoffs. The Steelers gave him a new contract in the offseason, and then drafted Ben Roethlisberger. Maddox then got hurt, Roethlisberger replaced him, and the Steelers have won 2 Super Bowls since.
Jack says “Because Kaepernick is a better quarterback and this team won’t reach the Super Bowl this season with Smith”
Absolutely, positively, no doubt about it?
FDM,
Yes. I would bet on it, and I don’t bet unless I know I am going to win.
It really doesn’t matter what side of the debate you fall on. Kap is going to start and likely be the starter until he gives Harbaugh a reason not to start him. Coaches get paid to win; the Niners are 2-0 with Kap in the lineup. I don’t know many Coaches who would deviate from a lineup that has looked so good in winning games against two tough opponents.
It doesn’t mean Smith couldn’t have won the games; it means it doesn’t matter because they won with Kap. At this point I’m guessing it’s Kaps job to lose and he is showing no signs of doing that. The best part of this whole thing is the Niners have 2 QB’s they know they can win with and who will push each other to be at their best every week. That is some serious good fortune to have in a league where some teams don’t have 1.
@ Tarzan don’t be so sensitive and cry to Grant. You sound like another little cry baby named Bayarea. If you don’t like it, too bad!
@Jack, you wanna bet the Niners don’t win a Super Bowl with CK? Cash?
Prime they will win a superbowl, with CK, maybe not this year but next year forsure. This team is stacked. I see CK getting all the starts the rest of the way. Its not right but how do you question Harbaugh.
Lets hope this kid can deliever one soon.

Prime, not crying. Just doing what I can to keep the blog civil and focused on FOOTBALL.
Like I’m doing with your buddy DS9, I will continue to repost every entry you make that is insulting, inappropriate, and immature.
You are a child. When you mature and start to talk football, I will stop. Until then, I will do my best to alert Grant to the fact that you are a huge detractor from his blog’s value.
Tarzan so what you are saying is that you are a cry baby and a snitch, wonderful. You are the biggest joke on here if you think you can keep this blog civil? You are dreaming pal! This is haterville, anything goes cause trying to talk football only works with a select few.
Do yourself a favor, don’t talk and try to be a hero, we have enough wanna be’s on here already!

Can you point to the last time you talked in football terms? Start talking reasonably. You were banned from here a couple days ago. Your comments were erased. It’s because you add nothing but immature Namecalling to this blog.
I won’t interact with you from here forward, but I will continue to repost your infantile and insulting comments until you are either permanently banished or shape up and start contributing.
Ciao!
@ FDM,
I guess you are the type of guy that can never admit when he’s wrong.
You are correct I am not in the locker room. But I do read between the lines.
In Alex’s last full start VD made a comment that he wasn’t happy about his role in the offense.
Then K-gun comes in and “Colin is da man”, ” I feel like the shackles have been taken off”. Randy Moss is K-gun’s best friend on the team. All club house leaders.
I have yet to see a facial expression or something that signifies resentment that AS is not on the field. Whoops, I mean except for Alex himself when they showed him on the sideline.
And for those that are tired of reading about AS / Kaep, it just happened. And coach makes it a relevant story because he’s playing games not naming a starter one way or another. And then you have guys like FDM asking for another start for AS lol. Undefeated, sacks are down, yardage and production are up, third down conversions are up, QB rushing yards increased. But who cares dammit, we want Smith. Give it a break.
Primate,
Kind of reminds me of when you cried to Grant about mama Primate. How the hypocrites forget their own actions. The trauma of AS riding the bench has really gotten to you. Take a breath and – eventhough it’s cold up there in Canada – go for a walk. It might do you some good.
First of all Bay, what is this right and wrong you are all about lately. You of all people should never talk about being right or wrong considering your history on here.
As for VD’s comments, yes he said that about the Monday nighter but what about his comments after the game yesterday saying ” he thougt Alex was still the man? Forgot that or didnt hear it or was VD lying?
Bays says “I have yet to see a facial expression or something that signifies resentment that AS is not on the field”
Again with the reading minds and playing Dr.Psychoanalysis. Like I said, stop pretending you know and using facial expressions and sideline demeanours to make an argument. Do you have that special camera angle we do not get to see? Or how bout a press pass to get in the lockeroom and the pulse of the room?
I get you love CK. Thats fine but dont make stuff up to help your arguement. That is what I mean by being immature.
Rocket
That’s a good post. It’s a luxury to have two good QBs. Just look at Pittsburgh and the drop off they’ve had with Charlie Batch as their QB. For now, CK7 is the starter – as he should be given that he’s the better QB. However, if for some unfortunate reason, CK gets injurred, then AS can step in and be productive.
@nick thats all you got, a reference to living in Canada? Weak pal, simply weak.
@Tarzan, I talk football with those who can speak it back. I also call out the haters. Like I said, you don’t like my commentary I make, don’t reply, go bust someone else’s chops. You are insignificant to me and I don’t need your advice. Thanks clown!
Claude,
That article sums it up nicely. New QB, same system, same style of winning. A lot of noise but little substance. What this is really telling us is that Harbaugh and Romans system is user friendly and effective.
Nick,
Thank you, and after watching Batch crap all over the field yesterday, we should all be thankful we have the situation we do.

Nah, Neals a big boy. He’s been in the trenches around here for a while, so I know he’s a tough dude.
But my contention really has more to do with principle then with the parties involved here.
I’m not a big AS fan by any means. On the other hand, I am a big fan of CK. But I’m old school in thinking that you don’t win a job through someone’s injury. You win on the practice or playing field, that’s where the fight is measured IMO.

Stop fooling yourselves.”
I still believe Harbaugh used the concussion excuse to see ck one more time so he could make an easier decision. Well he did exactly what I thought he’d do. Smith said he was ready to play and Harbuagh put him on the back burner and used the concussion excuse yesterday.
Now that he saw ck in 2-1/2 games he should have a solid take on who should be the starter from here on out. Whoever starts Sunday is the starter for the remainder if the season.
He should pick ck if its based on physical ability, field vision and capability of stretching defenses and the field.
He should pick Alex based on veteran leadership, safer passing, and locker rom cred.
IMO it’s not a tough decision. I would take ck, Smith hasn’t shown any growth from last season. I think he keeps the offense chained with his physical abilities. He plays NOT to lose, and its just not good enough anymore. Ck can check down an play safe the same. But smith can’t make the throws or run or stand in and elude the pocket when its breaking down like ck can. I just see ck being able to play like Smith but I can’t see or haven’t seen Smith play like CK. we will see what Harbaugh is made of. Because he could have started Smith yesterday but decided not to then refused to name the starter. It will be interesting.
IMO I think Harbaugh is going to gamble and stick with Smith. I think Smith will start to attempt to stretch the field “like the NYG game” and will fail. Then the critism an boo’s will start trickling in and the ck chants will start.
Now this is my opinion. And it is because until Alex Smith is on another roster I refuse to believe he will not be the starter. The guy has 9 lives with this franchise. Ck is the better qb, but I can’t see Smith losing his job because of injury with Harbaugh at the helm. Interesting week ahead. The future of this team and Superbowl run is on the line.

Or not: http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/40413820
And? It’s an opinion like mine. No way this defense wins a Super Bowl on its own. It’s good but not 85 bears good. This is this weeks game this person wants to debunk. What about the Chicago game and stl game coming off the bench? Remember this is only the second start from this kid. And he is already matching smith and outplaying smith in some categories. Again CK can do what Smith can, Smith can’t do what he can physically. That’s just a fact that nobody can argue. An opinion that’s debatable is that CK can take this team further than Smith has or can. Gonna be intriguing
So Md you have been staunch in saying that alot of Smith’s win were a result of the defense and or special teams. Is that fair to say about CK yesterday or not?
Yes it helped, but he Didnt need Akers and had an outstanding 3rd down % and redzone %. Those 3rd down throws were monster in this win.
Do you think Smith makes those 3rd down throws or helps win that game? I don’t! Remember you’re trying to compare a 7 year career to a 2 game starter. And these two games he put together are probably as good as any Alex smith back to back game in his whole career. And don’t forget. The best offensive weapon last season isn’t a big weapon this season. Akers!!! He’s not nails. So if you want to go to hypothetical’ the score should have been 23-21. That would be a win. Lol
md – Good post.
This Niner D is approaching the level of the 85 Bears. The Bears D gave up 12 points a game in 1985 regular season and Niners have only given up 14 points a game average through 11 games.
The Bears D turned it up a notch in 85 playoffs with 2 shutouts. I expect Niner D to step it up in playoffs too.
Nobody shuts Drew Brees down at home like that……Nobody!
