NEW ORLEANS – Here’s what Kaepernick said after the game about his performance against the Saints.
Q: Were you a good QB today?
KAEPERNICK: I think so. We got a win. That’s all that really matters.
Q: What did you think of the noise?
KAEPERNICK: It was loud at times. We had to make sure we communicated the play well. There was a couple of plays we had a little confusion as far as hearing. Other than that we got settled in.
Q: Was it tough preparing on a short week?
KAEPERNICK: You have to grind like you do every week, make sure you know your stuff. No one’s going to put on your record that you had a short week if you lose. It really doesn’t matter.
Q: When did you know you would start?
KAEPERNICK: Last night
Q: What time?
KAEPERNICK: 10 o’clock. He told the team. He said, “Kap will be our starter tomorrow.”
Q: Where did you learn read option?
KAEPERNICK: That’s what we learned in college.
Q: What about today’s touchdown run?
KAEPERNICK: We got a perfect read. Our receivers made great blocks.
Q: Where is your confidence level?
KAEPERNICK: It makes you that much more confident especially when you get two wins against great teams.
Q:What happened on the interception?
KAEPERNICK: Didn’t get the snap clean. Should have checked it down. I was trying to make a play out of something I really shouldn’t have.
Q: What did you think when Coach said you would start?
KAEPERNICK: Let’s go out and win.
Q: How fortunate are you to play with such a good defense?
KAEPERNICK: It’s a blessing. Today they got 14 points for us so that made it that much easier for us as an offense.
Q: What was your best throw today?
KAEPERNICK: The scramble to Crabtree down the sideline.

So-o-o ..
CK7 bested the mighty Drew Breese !
Sure .. that new wide receiver Breese found in Brooks
helped, too !!
Great win, Kaep ..
Now go beat the Lambs !! :-)
You are the man Colin. Keep on winning baby
“Kap” great job putting up 17 points against the worst defense in the NFL. Amazing what happens when these teams get a bit of film on you. I figure a few more wins until the teams really start stopping what you do well. I also figure a few more wins until we are in the playoffs. Not good. You’re the future, but I prefer the future to start with an entire off season’s work as the starter.
On the flip side, with more experience Kaep becomes a better player. Did you even watch the game? The Saints D was coming hard at Kaep in the 1st half. He made excellent decisions other than the INT.
Not sure if you are a pessimist or a troll. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and call you a pessimist,
I watched the game and KAEP did well, not great. But he made plays, but also didn’t make some reads. The big stat is no sacks for the O-line, which was alot of KAEP scrambling.
Niners D is starting to play at a high level. The only team in their way is of course the Giants…
In previous drafts the 49ers passed on Tom Brady & passed on A. Rodgers…..so glad that they didn’t pass on another stud from the bay that grew up dreaming of being the 49ers starting QB. Go Kap Go!
Hey Grant …
How about a column about who you’d give a game ball to ?
For me .. one would go to Ahmad Brooks !
Despite being a confirmation for CK, it was a great Team Win. This D very much reminds me of the Great Forty Niner Defensive Tradition.
Q: What was your best throw today?
KAEPERNICK: The scramble to Crabtree down the sideline.
That was a beauty that got called back on a hold by A Davis. Going to take a little time for the o line to get used to having a QB that extends the play.
Oh, you gots to forgive A D on that one! Hokey Smoke Bullwinkle, he’s trying to hep out his QB!
Okee doke Rocky…
Just for the record! I was just messin with you guys! Creating a little stir. Throwing a little of the Alex argument back at ya! Everyone should know that it’s gonna take an injury to unseat Kap at this point. Kap is da Man!
I gotta go to bed! Vacation is over! Back to the grind tomorrow. I got a terrible headache! Go Niners!
I just finished watching every play on offense again on DVR and made notes. I wanted to see what exactly Harbaugh likes so much about Kap instead of Alex. Officially btw, Harbaugh is stating Kap played because of Smith’s concussion. We’ll see next week I guess.
Based on my notes, I think Kap’s mobility saved us maybe 2 or 3 sacs. His mobility also made maybe 2 or 3 plays that AS most likely wouldn’t make. The read option is another piece that Alex does not do. He can, but clearly, CK is a faster more mobile runner (He’s no RG3 or Michael Vick though). On the flip side, CK threw the interception that I don’t think AS makes. I think CK’s velocity is better and that makes tighter windows appear larger.
Ok long story short, CK has a higher ceiling, but lacks experience. He can throw farther and harder, he can run faster and is more agile. Only time on the field will tell if he’s going to be better. Teams will adjust to him. When that happens, we’ll see how CK handles that adversity.
Caveman,
Harbaugh did not say that he starter Kap because of Smith’srecord injury. He said he planned on juggling them, possibly playing both of them. However, that did not happen. That should not happen. We don’t want Alex to mess up Kaepernicks rhythm! ( sarcasm!)
Kap has ten throws over 20 yards in 2 games. Smith had 22 of them in 9 games. Alex, thanks but no thanks.
We are the one team with solid QBing in starting and backup spots. Love the K-Gun, but it’s nice to have Alex available.
Football is adversity, everyplay.
This may be premature…but Kyle Williams’ and Kendall Hunter’s injuries could spell action for the rookies next week at St. Louis. We could potentially see the future of the 49ers on field all at once!
Grant, keep a close eye on this for us!
Alex would have been on his butt the whole game. The line blocking has got to improve if we are going to utilize kaps tremendous skills. His laser like accuracy on deep throws is something to see. I don’t know what world you Smithers live in if you can’t see it.
Tyrant,
They see it but their love for the Smith won’t allow them to embrace what their eyes are seeing. They’ll be fine when Smith is gone next season.
Your arguments are becoming embarrassing Smithers. Kap is the present and the future. Deal with it
+1
Smith’s days are over in SF.
Good job Kapper. Finally… Our long-term solution at QB has been identified… You’re done Smith… Time to hand that C patch over to The Man.
Alex Smith’s ceiling = Kap’s floor that he wipes his feet on…. The future looks bright!!!!
Great experience for kap playing in front of such a loud and hostile crowd. Will serve him well when we play in seattle
