Prediction: 49ers will beat the Bears in a field goal fest

The 49ers are going to beat the Bears 19-6.

The Niners’ defense is going to have a huge bounce-back game. They’re going to make the Bears offense look completely inept.

The Niners defense will stonewall Bears RBs Matt Forte and Michael Bush and harass backup QB Jason Campbell. The Niners defense is going to force a turnover, return it for a touchdown and limit the Bears offense to just two field goals.

David Akers is going to have a bounce-back game, too. He’ll make all four of his field goal attempts.

The Niners offense will struggle to find a rhythm. The Bears will stop Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter with seven defenders. That means the Niners play action passes will be less effective. Alex Smith (if he plays) will have to drop back or line up in the shotgun and complete short, quick passes to drive the offense. The Niners will not put together any drives of more than 70 yards. They’ll drive the ball into Chicago territory a few times, but they will not score a touchdown against the Bears defense.

That’s how I see it, at least. How do you see this game unfolding?

I’m predicting a 34-13 game in favor of the Niners. Alex Smith will find Vernon Davis eight times for over 100 yards and two touchdowns. Crabtree will have a quiet night but still catch a touchdown. The defense will get an interception and return it for a touchdown. Akers will kick two field goals.

  2. Crab15 says:

Bears D leads the league with 30 turnovers (19 interceptions) but Niner D will outperform them Monday.
Jason Campbell will help niners win turnover battle and Alex will play smart, mistake-free football all night. I expect Manningham to play well, he’s due. P Willy and Bowman are extremely motivated for this one.
    23-10 Niners.

    Grant sez:
…” The Bears will stop Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter with seven defenders…”

Well.. if you’re right .. wouldn’t this be a good time to unleash
    Brandon Jacobs ?

The 49ers beefy o-line will have no problem making holes in the a and b gaps. They wont have as much success against the fast defenders on the outside but i expect us to gouge the Bears right up the middle. Look for the trap play they run with Walker to be run at least a couple times especially if they try to get cute with their LB’s on stunts and blitz’s.

I expect that you’ll see us run a few more screen plays then we’ve seen so far as well, the quick defensive line will be eager to go after Smith which should open up some nice plays for Hunter who i expect will be in on the screen plays. I also expect that Vernon Davis will have a more prolific day compared to lately, 7 catches for 80 yards and a TD on a redzone strike. The Bears are fast but small, Smith will check down to Davis who will break two tackles and drag another into the end zone with him. Mario will catch a wide op TD after his man blitz’s and the safety doesn’t get over in time to help.

I also think we’ll see some Kaepernick option plays as well, anywhere between 3 and 4 plays.

Without fearing much from Campbell the defense will dare the Bears to pass and crowd the line waiting for Forte and Bush.

    49ers win 27-16

Well I almost nailed the Vernon Davis stat line he finished with 6/83 and a TD. I only saw one screen play and it was broken up before Colin could even make the pass. We also had plenty of success running up the middle.

Beyond the above mentioned items I was totally wrong about pretty much everything else about this game and Kaepernick as well.

    • Coffee's for closers says:

Oh and thank you Jon Gruden for pointing at that what I was calling a “trap” play is in fact called a “wham” play and they did run it, but only once that I saw.

      • Jack Hammer says:

        Coffee,

The “wham” play is a variation of the trap, so don’t be so hard on yourself : )

The only difference is the block is coming from someone other than a lineman.

19-6 sounds about right. If the defense comes out flat for this game then there is no hope for them. When they play to their potential they’re the best in the league.

  6. Razoreater says:

    34 – 0 49ers

  7. Bob says:

    Bears 31 49ers 3 go bears

I hope Lovie Smith has the same kind of day (at The Stick)
that Iron Mike had… the day he threw his gum into a crowd
    of boisterous Niner fans ..
and hit an unsuspecting blonde in the forehead !

  9. The Grinch says:

Grant every 49er game is a field goal fest…What team have you been covering?..lol….If we had a decent quarterback that wasnt so conservative we could have one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL..As long as Alex is the quarterback theyre going to rely on kicking field goals and letting the Defense win the game.Ive never seen a team that is so content on settling for field goals.

  10. Willie niner says:

Grant you said the the 49ers won’t score a TD against the Bears Defence so how did you came out with the score been 19-6? Even if Akers makes six field goals still is only 18 points just saying….

  11. Low Scoring game says:

Like its always been Jim will sell the game and makes it look like very hardly fought game. I’m tired of good coaches fixing games. In case niners wins its only by 1 or field goal, if not they will be beaten by 3. Mark my word!

  12. The Grinch says:

Chris Mortenson is reporting Alex Smith is out tonight..What the hell?….I dont even think Kap got any practice reps this week cause they were counting on Smith playing…
