Prediction: 49ers win high-scoring game

The 49ers will beat the Saints 41-27 on Sunday.

Colin Kaepernick will play even better than he did against the Bears. The loud Super Dome will not faze him. He will torch the Saints terrible defense with his arm and his legs.

The 49ers offense will demoralize the Saints defense early. It will be clear in the first quarter the 49ers offense can do whatever it wants. The Saints are the worst run-stopping defense in the NFL. The 49ers will establish the run on the first drive, which will open up the entire passing game.

Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter will each average more than 6 yards per carry.

Vernon Davis will lead the 49ers in receptions for the second week in a row. Mario Manningham will lead the 49ers in receiving yards – Kaepernick will hit him on two deep shots.

The 49ers defense will have their toughest test of the season.

They cannot match up with Pro Bowl tight end Jimmy Graham, although no defense can match up with that giant. He caught five passes for 103 yards and 2 TDs in the NFC Divisional playoff against the Niners. Drew Brees will give him about a dozen opportunities to make catches whether he’s covered or not.

The defense is going to give up almost 30 points, but they’re going to take away the Saints rushing attack and play with a lead most of the game, which is a big advantage.

That’s how I see the game unfolding. What’s your prediction?

Love the Niners and Kap, but Saints are playing better on defense and the Superdome is an awfully tough place for CK7′s second start. Saints 31, Niners 21.

    • Matt says:

I actually agree here. I don’t think SF will beat NO. I don’t think it will even be close. I think Kaepernick showed some amazing things. I just think the NFL adjusts very quickly. The only one fooled by Sf’s starting QB media carosel is SF.
I think it was disappointing to see the coach contradict his stars in the media. I think NO handles SF’s passing game by countering it with Graham, Sproles, and Brees buying time. They’ll borrow the old Carolina panthers zone blitzing blueprint and disrupt timing for the young QB.
NO isn’t going to try to establish a running game. They are going to establish a short passing game instead. Screens to sproles. Quick hits to Graham. Then Brees will go deep and exploit C Rogers.
      NO 45 SF 10

      • 23Jordan/ BS has left the building! says:

        Hey Matt,

I bet you’d think the Niners would win if Alex Smith were playing right. There is no way on hell the Saints blow us out. We are going to best the saints today. They are not a good team.

      • Matt says:

Jordan, I don’t think A Smith would beat NO. I am not a fan of A Smith on the field. I think he would give the team less opportunities on offense.
I just think Kaepernick will struggle against the noice, the blitzes, and more adversity. I still like Kaepernick starting and hope he keeps the starting job.
I think this SF team is a playoff team. I just think this is a game they lose. I picked NO to make the playoffs three weeks ago. So far, they’ve lived up to that prediction.
It’s all just an opinion though.

  2. Razoreater says:

And in my world everyones a pony, and they eat rainbows and poop butterflys. Hope you’re right Grant. IF CK7 plays like you say he will, a new era in 49er Football will have arrived, in my view.

  3. msclemons67 says:

At the beginning of the movie “Colors” the veteran cop tells the rookie a story:

An old bull and a young bull are up on a hill looking at the herd. The young bull says “Let’s run down there and [bleep] a cow!” The old bull responds, “No son, let’s walk down there and [bleep] them all.”

What I’m trying to say is – 6 posts in 30 minutes? How in the heck are we supposed to develop a conversation?

I don’t see 41 points. I’m also very nervous about the Saints in the Home Dome.

  4. 7x7ers says:

I guess you are counting on Kaepernick starting, which seems likely. I don’t know he will make every throw like he did against the Bears, but I love his attitude. He is intense. He is going to everything humanely possible to get this win. I think in that sense he is more in sync with Harbaugh than Alex.

I agree this is going to be game where the defense is challenged. The offense won’t be able to settle for multiple field goals and win this game. Turnovers are going to be huge if they are uneven. I like the 49ers chances with CK at quarterback.

  5. Jack Hammer says:

49ers win 27 – 23. They get up by 2 scores early, and hang on down the stretch.

Bonus prediction: Stanford over UCLA 24-21.

  6. brrr says:

Grant you watched Kap all training camp and he was ok but not great and now you expect him to have two great games in a row. Alex was the clear winner coming out of camp and now you think Kap is going to be the next Steve Young. I think after watching this game you might have a better appreciation for what Alex brings to the table

    • Neanderthal Offense says:

What is with this “next Steve Young” garbage everyone keeps yapping about? He was nowhere remotely close to Montana. Can we say “next Joe Montana?”

      • Dangle says:

I’m with u that joe was better than Steve. But I think the comparison with CK is due to the running ability.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

Yeah, alright, but it’s unfair to compare them on that basis also.

If you’re talking wins, give me Montana.

If you’re talking running ability, I don’t think I’ve ever seen another QB with skills like CK. Frankly, Young looks like a white guy running the 100m dash in the Olympic finals next to CK, if that makes any sense. There’s just no comparison. RGIII is slightly faster than CK, but nowhere near as big. Vick is porcelain, and the 80s & 90s versions (Cunningham/McNair) were simply less athletic.

CK is totally unique, and he’s all NINER!

      • Jack Hammer says:

LMAO!!!, “Young looks like a white guy running the 100m dash in the Olympic finals next to CK”

      • neal says:

I thought Steve Young is and was white. Is this being.challenged?

      • Brotha Tuna says:

        @ Neal
SY was from Greenwich, CT. I’m pretty sure he’s white! LOL!

      • brrr says:

No one compares to Joe Montana. Kap in time might be like Steve young but Joe was the all time best

      • neal says:

        ahahah Brotha,

Also are their Black or Hispanic mormons?

      • Randy says:

        No..we can not..

    • neal says:

Kaep hater, JH made the decision to bench Smith, not the fans.

    • Jai says:

You hope so don’t you. You want Kaep to fail. I hope you don’t call yourself a 49er fan. Loser

  7. JCarter# says:

    “The gift that keeps giving”

  8. NinersRoc says:

I think the 49ers win 27-24. However, I don’t expect CK to have as good a game if he plays. I think we win this game on defense and on the ground primarily. We’ll get some turnovers that help put us in position to win on offense. Don’t expect the offense to dominate this one. It will be tight, but if we get behind by more than 7pts I don’t think we’ll win.

  9. Dangle says:

I think the offense will dominate the saints defense the same way it is designed to dominate everyone. Running for large chunk yardage and taking play action shots.
I think the defense will struggle a lot more than last week against drew brees’ offense. But they will do enough to allow a victory.

  10. Coffee's for closers says:

I believe the best way to beat the Saints is to keep Brees off the field. To win the 49ers MUST establish a run game early. They need to sustain long drives that eat up the clock, passes need to be just long enough to sustain the drive unless there is a blown coverage for a sure TD.

If we can average in the 12 plays per drive range that should take away at least one or two possessions from Brees. Also although this mostly goes without saying it’s doubly important tomorrow, if we want to win we must commit zero turnovers. We simply can’t afford to give Brees any extra possessions.

The defense will be playing bend don’t break but Brees eventually breaks ya. If we can keep him off the field we can win the game.

    • Coffee's for closers says:

If Kaepernick has more then 25 pass attempts we’re probably in trouble. Not a knock in anyway on Colin but simply a nod to the situation that it implies.

    • Coffee's for closers says:

The 12 plays per drive might be a bit conservative.

    • Jack Hammer says:

“To win the 49ers MUST establish a run game early.”

That is a MUST every week, regardless of who the QB is or the defense…

      • Coffee's for closers says:

Maybe I stated it to simply but I was trying to build the argument for a low scoring clock control game rather then try and get into a shooting match.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

That’s not what they did against the Bears, andost certainly the opposite of what Bill Walsh predicated his success upon. The beauty of the Bears game was the gameplay to come out firing. It was the consistent success passing on early running downs that allowed the Niners to then go to their dominant run game. Had they attempted to attack the Bears’ front 8 and front 9 in the beginning of the game without first going over the top a few times, the game may have turned out very differently.

As for keeping Brees off the field, that would be the game plan if Alex were at the helm, but Harbaugh appears more apt to go big with Kaepernick under center. He probably will want to see how far the young gun can take them in the Superdome.

      • Jack Hammer says:

I got your point Coffee, and agree. Even amongst all of the fireworks on Monday they maintained a balance approach. On their first 21 plays they went 12 pass, 9 runs. The difference was the passes were big plays.

      • Dangle says:

It’s basically the same game plan approach that JH’S teams always have but CK takes more shots downfield whereas Alex likes to check down. The most telling thing will be whether or not CK can hit them like he did against the bears regularly. That will absolutely be toxic for the saints who already are poor at stopping the run. So as soon as they devote extra Guys to stopping the run they will thrown on. Smart/quick decisions for Ck will be critical against the blitzes from the saints. They will regularly leave receivers one-one and that can make for some short-slant throws for huge YAC. Just like last years playoff game.

  11. Foamingatdamouth says:

#1 run offense vs. #32 run defense on the road. A shoot out is NO’s only hope. Going to be 27-17. Niners take a lead early w/ the ground game & the defense gets after Brees.

  12. fesnyc says:

can Kaep have two flawless games in a row?

sure hope so, and many more behind that but i sense a blitz-fest and a crazy amount of scheme disguises and changeups. Niners 31-30 and new life for DS and Hofer ;-).

the real key is coming out of games like this healthy, cause its all about the playoffs and SB for this team

  13. Maven says:

I guess everyone has written off AS. He is the only QB on the team that has beaten the Saints and he did it with style. Let the coach be the judge who will start and who will run the game. I think you might see a multiple QB day.

  14. BAS72 says:

This will likely be a tough game due to the crowd noise and the fact that the NO defense has been playing better the last few weeks. If the Niners can win the turnover battle on the road, I think they win, possibly big. If they lose the turnover battle, I don’t like their chances. This would be a great game for LMJ on that fast track! Maybe next year…

  15. The Grinch says:

Not nervous about the Saints..Kap is not T Smith or JT Osullivan..Look at his life story he is a true competitor that has the “it” factor from everything Ive read and heard this kid refuses to lose..Saints are on a good run but have not faced a well rounded team as the Niners.Niners are winning this game.Everyones jumping on theyre bandwagon but Im no believer..Theyll get their points but were winning by ten…Niners 34 Saints 24..Whos got it better then us?

  16. Hoferfan67 says:

    Grant,

    How’s the turtle soup??

  17. Brotha Tuna says:

It always kinda worries me when Grant predicts a big win……… ; >o

  18. IMG says:

If we win by this margin, we are SB bound.

  19. msclemons67 says:

Off topic: I don’t watch a ton of college football but I’m watching OK vs. OKST because, well, it’s football.

I’m not getting the hype about Landry Jones. He looks like Kevin Kolb to me. Skittery in the pocket, throws high a lot.

On the other side of the field, that Chelf kid for OKST has some chops. Not sure he has an NFL caliber arm but his pocket presence is really something. Three times I’ve seen him dodge pass rushers that he couldn’t possibly have seen.

    • ninermd says:

Being an OU fan Jones is a garbage bag. He will fail miserably in the NFL if he ever gets a chance to even play. He is a college benefit. Meaning its not hard being good in college when you have good recievers and coaching staff. GO SOONERS!!!!!!

      • msclemons67 says:

If it’s any consolation Jones does a beautiful job of rolling right and throwing it out of bounds. He also takes a nice sack.

    • Houston 9er says:

I wouldn’t say Landry Jones is garbage but he’s certainly inconsistent and makes horrible decisions at times. Having said that, I’ll bet the Texas Longhorns would take Landry Jones in a heartbeat over the 2 disasters they have playing QB.

  20. MidWestNiner says:

This is the game that I have labeled as a loss when the schedule came out and nothing has changed my thinking here. The Saints are a very dangerous team right now and even more so with Sproles coming back from injury, a type of player that the Niners D has had. trouble dealing with this season. No matter who the QB is, the Saints will blitz him because they know either one can hurt their defense if they don’t. I’m predicting a high-scoring game as well but as a 34-26 final in favor of the Saints.

    • Brotha Tuna says:

You make good points, but the challenge reminds me of Opening Day at Lambeau. It’s do-able if they are “On”.

      • MidWestNiner says:

True Brotha, but the Packers weren’t fighting for their playoff lives in that game. The Saints will be in this one

  21. ninermd says:

Damn it Grant. Haven’t you learned by now? Everytime you predict good for this team they lay an egg. Way to go Grant. Way to go!!!!!

  22. ninermd says:

49ers are losing this game. Had it picked months ago. And now that Grant picked them to win big. It’s definitely a wrap now.

  23. Jack Hammer says:

    UCLA’s alternate uni’s look nice!

  24. The Grinch says:

Saints are overhyped..They beat the Falcons which was a division game and the Falcons are beatable..They havent played anyone of our calibur..Not buying the hype..Kap is a winner and he carved up the #1 ranked D when the whole world was watching..Not buying the hype Niners 34 Aints 24..The Aints couldnt beat us with Sean Payton calling the game and niether can J Vitt..National media still doubting the Niners….smh

    • skatkats says:

Thank you grinch. forget all the halfway bandwagon riding wannabe’s the niners are thd read deal and the saints are just another team that will get crushed by the best niner team in the last 15years at least ck will do what he needs to and so will the rest of this great niner team where are the 49er faithful am i the last this is our year I say 49ers 41 aints 31 but not thhat close in reality. niners will walk away with it from the gate

    • Houston 9er says:

Saints are a different team at home than on the road. Add the extreme crowd noise in the Superdome and this will be a hard game to wn. If CK comes through and delivers another strong performance then he’s sealed the deal as the starter for the rest of the year.

  25. Chicago49er says:

Grant I agree with MD, I hope we did not get jinx with your predication! This is a very important game for our team. GO NINERS

    • Jack Hammer says:

Never fear guys. Grant took a trip to Reverend Zombies House of Voodoo to make sure this prediction would work out.

Don’t be surprised if Brees get’s a mysterious injury if things start going the Saints way….

      • msclemons67 says:

I demand a video of Grant and Lowell on a balcony, tossing beads and yelling “show your [bleeps]!”

      • Grant Cohn says:

Ha! That would be a strange type of father-son bonding.
We’re going to Commander’s Palace in an hour for dinner. Has anyone been there?

      • Brotha Tuna says:

I’d bet Mrs. CohnZone would be interested in viewing those clips too. It could be the end of LC’s road trips.

      • msclemons67 says:

I didn’t think of that Brotha.

        *waves to Mrs. Cohn*

        Just kidding!

  26. I.P. Daily says:

having read Grant’s prediction, it’s obvious the Niners will win 3-2…

  27. Chewie says:

I hope the Niners neutralize the Saints blitz by getting Kaep outside the pocket and making plays. Keeping Kaep in the pocket with a bunch of blitzers in a loud dome makes me nervous.

  28. grudge23 says:

It’s interesting, that a lot of the how we win scenarios “establish the run”, “play great defense” sound exactly the same irregardless of which QB is starting, how odd?!?!

Not intentionally trying to sound pessimistic here. Ask anyone, including the Bears, and no one would have said the Niners come out throwing on Monday with our QB situation! The Bears prepared for ground and pound and could never get their heads around our game plan and on the other side the Bears O was never, ever a threat. I just think this week/game is so much more of a challenge, on the road, against a legitimate offense, their defense maybe suspect, but on the road is always rough. I guarantee there are not many teams in the NFL that want to go to N.O. right now. They have won 5 straight against other NFL teams(i think) so this isn’t going to be some powder puff game. I think we win 28-21 because we will establish the run, play great defense and ask the QB to not F it up… like we have done every week since Harbaugh arrived.

btw, that game plan is not a knock on Kap or Smith, just noting that the game plan, is the same in spite of whose taking the snaps. I think the deliberate nature of attacking the Bears D with a green QB was, and it had to be, a sneak attack, executed to perfection!! The surprise is gone now. That’s why I think we are back to our bread and butter establish the run, play great D and hey QB don’t F this up. In my mind, one game does not a philosophical change make(yet).

  29. Neanderthal Offense says:

    Hofer / Ribico / Smithers

The following is excerpted directly from Kawakami, an objective journalist who’s gone toe-to-toe with some if the Bay Area’s most unscrupulous sports characters. Perhaps if you don’t buy what I’ve been stating all along, you’ll read and digest this:

“Here’s the bigger picture: Harbaugh and his staff would love to have a more dynamic offense that can power the 49ers though a bruising playoff slugfest.

The 49ers’ offense under Smith has been dynamic at times since the start of last season, and it surely has been efficient.

But there were two key games—both against the New York Giants–when the 49ers and Smith faltered and I think they stuck in Harbaugh’s mind.

My guess is that those two games, and the belief that the 49ers will probably have to go through the Giants to win the Super Bowl, set everything in motion.

Exhibit A: Last season’s NFC Championship Game, when Smith had a diminished receiving corps, completed 12 of 26 passes, failed to move the team after halftime, and the 49ers lost 20-17 in overtime.

Exhibit B: With a beefed up receiving corps this season, the 49ers’ offense still got thrashed by the Giants in a devastating 26-3 loss.

In that Oct. 14 game, Smith completed 19 of 30 attempts for 200 yards with three interceptions, despite the 2012 additions of Randy Moss and Mario Manningham.

Maybe that game triggered the warning lights at 4949 Centennial. Was the offense with Smith too predictable against premium defenses? Why can’t Smith get the ball to Vernon Davis?

What happens if the 49ers face the Giants again in January and the Giants once again stack up against the run and short passing game?

In this context, Smith’s 18-for-19 precision against Arizona two weeks after the New York game didn’t really register; the 49ers’ staff is laser-locked on the bigger picture.

In this context, even Smith’s great opening-week game in Green Bay probably is pushed to the margins.

The 49ers have a Super Bowl defense, solid offensive personnel, and a coaching staff and front office that is ravenous for a title.

And that means they believe they are scheming to beat the Giants—or another defense just as good—in the late stages of the playoffs.

They are in pre-playoff mode now, though it’s still November. They’re playing the Saints and want to beat the Saints, but it all has a deeper meaning.

Is this the kind of 49ers offense that can win a Super Bowl? There is no other plan, there is no lesser goal, and now there probably is an exciting new quarterback to test it all out.”

    - TK, 11/24/12

    • Jack Hammer says:

Kawakami has been killing it the last week or so….

    • grudge23 says:

I am a Smith’er and unfortunately I have been through a similar situation, professionally. So I would love to see Smith get the chance to play out the season as a starter and leave town as a Super Bowl winning QB. It would be great to see him attain a modicum of vindication before leaving. But honestly even if Smith were to win the SB this year, he would not be in SF next year. I do believe, without equivocation, the Bears game punched his ticket out of SF next year, no matter this years outcome.
But nothing is owed anyone in this world and so if Harbaugh says we are moving to Kap, well then, its all in with Kap and lets do this thing!!!

      GO NINERS

    • Scooter_McG says:

And therein lies the crux of the argument between Kaep and Smith. The big question mark for this team is at QB. The running game and defense are strong.

Smith brings efficient QB play but, generally, lacking in big plays. The offense relies on sustaining drives, not turning the ball over, and accumulating enough points for the stellar defense to keep the lead.

Kaep brings more big play potential in the passing game, and offers more versatility for the 49ers ground game. The theory is that his inexperience and willingness to make throws in tight windows will also translate to more risk of turning the ball over, which it probably will. But if Kaep can avoid the game changing turnovers, and make a decent share of the big plays, then he is the obvious choice moving forward.

    • Houston 9er says:

Putting Kawakami and objective journalist in the same sentence is like putting Taliban and women’s rights in the same sentence. Kawakami is far from an objective journalist. He’s on par with Skip Bayless as a morally bankrupt delta bravo who just throws crap against the wall and see’s what will stick.

  30. MontanaMan16/GobbleGobbleTurkey says:

Living in Nevada for the past 20 some years, I’ve had the opportunity to see Kap play at UNR on several occasions. He was the talk in our lunchroom at work probably long before most people on this blog ever heard of him. I’m a huge Kap fan. I’m well aware of his talent, his upside and his ceiling. So many on this blog are just so confident that were just going to go down there and blow these guys away. I dont share your confidence. If AS starts I do but with Kap, there’s too much unknown still. The Bears as we know, decided to stack the box and make Kap beat them. He did! What if Spags decides to take Kap out of the equation? I know NO’s defense sucks but they’re starting to catch on to what Spags is preachin’. They’re gonna be fired up for this game and the crowd is gonna back them. Spags is gonna show Kap some looks he’s gonna have a hard time diagnosing. That’s the part of Kap I don’t trust yet. Not saying he won’t pass the challenge, just don’t have the trust. I have that trust with Smith. Couple of weeks ago, I had this game in the bag…Now? I’m more nervous than a queer at a weeney roast. If we beat these guys as badly as what Grant says then yes, Kaps ready! If we don’t. Huge mistake. GB will be right there with us for a bye week seed. Atlanta very well could lose this week. Missed opportunity! This just doesn’t seem like the right time to be experimenting. If we beat them badly with Kap, then we won’t lose again!

    • Neanderthal Offense says:

A queer at a weenie roast, huh??? No doubt you’re from Nevada. No doubt you’re hella old. No doubt who you voted for.

So, um, gotta ask … are you a racist also?

If you know Kaep and you know Smith, and you know Kaep’s history at UNR and his clutch play in big games and his great play in 7 quarters … what makes you, the GREAT MontanaMan, doubt Kaepernick? I wonder. He is coffee colored, like the President you didn’t vote for.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

Easy does it. Challenging an outdated homophobic remark is one thing. Presupposing racism……? C’mon.

      • msclemons67 says:

Once again, Spitblood can’t restrain himself from crossing the line.

C’mon man – you’re funny as hell when you don’t go Michael Richards on us.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

Really? So homophobia is cool, but racism is taboo? Is that your position? Nice Tuna.

Just gotta wonder where all these questions about Kaepernick’s ability to read coverage, smarts, etc… come from.

The kid graduated with a 4.1 GPA from his high school and led a massively undertooled UNR over Boise State at the height of its splendor, brought our Niners back to beat the Rams (minus Akers) and then decimated the league’s most ferocious defense.

So why the nerves? It’s always the same argument with black quarterbacks … “sure he can run, but is he smart enough?”

        It’s a fair question, Tuna.

      • MontanaMan16/GobbleGobbleTurkey says:

Racist? Really? I thought it was kinda funny. Some people are too serious on here.

I don’t doubt Kaps talent in the least bit. He hasn’t earned my trust yet that he can read all NFL defenses yet. That simple.

PS I’m not from Nevada. Just kinda stuck here. And I never said I was Great. Thanks for thinking so tho!

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

In not Spitblood, Clem. Thx for the “funny” comment.

Not sure why everyone’s cool with the blatant homophobia but gets all jacked up over a question about racism.

Racism is alive and well, folks. I’ll drop it and stick to the vapid topics, but only because I like you, Clem.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

No dude, you invented the racism element out of thin air. If you’d just called him out for his slur, 99% of us could of supported it.

      • msclemons67 says:

Are you sure you aren’t Spitblood? That unique blend of intelligence, comedy, quick wit and a Lewis Black level of profanity is hard to duplicate.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

        Montana

You are great, and I was highly amused by your homophobic imagery. Keep it up!!!

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

No, no Clem. Afraid not. I’m trying to remember the name I used last year when I was just a touch too profane in my arguments with Jordo and got booted.

        Thanks for the nod.

      • Grant Cohn says:

I booted you? Shame on me.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

        Brotha

You’re right. I, the Neanderthal, invented racism. But that was a looooooong time ago. And it was because back in the day it didn’t matter that I was smarter. All that mattered was that they were faster. I just can’t get over it.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

A-Ha! You admit it! You always had it in for those Cro-Magnuns!
        OK, we done now?

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

        Totally, Tuna!

By the way, have you seen The Whale that Ate Jaws?

        hehehe

      • 23jordan/I told you so. says:

        N.O.

I can’t imagine why you would’ve gotten kicked off of this blog for profanity with me. If you had used it against me, I would’ve used it in return. I don’t think you we’re here under another name and got kicked off. You don’t sound like a fan of Smith so I can’t imagine what the argument would have been about. Sure it wasn’t with someone else? I don’t recall a profanity laced discussion with a hone on this blog. When people here get booted, the rest of the blog usually knows about it. Grant lets it be know. Like on the case of prime time and One Niner.

      • neal says:

So MSC and gobble gobble are the same person, that means he has two opposing views.

      • 23jordan/I told you so. says:

        known**

      • MontanaMan16/GobbleGobbleTurkey says:

        Montana

You are great, and I was highly amused by your homophobic imagery. Keep it up!!!

My bad! I guess I didn’t think it thru!

      • 55Niner says:

        @All…
Neanderthal is the guy that posted a “racist’ comment after the 49er’s cut Josh Johnson. Something along the lines of “they (Tolzein and Johnson) were both so close, so we dicided to keep the White Guy?”…look up the post after JJ got cut…talk abouit racist..

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

        55Niner

Not a chance. I wasn’t posting at that period because my job was taking up too much time. Why don’t you either retract your ridiculous lie!

I never cared about Tolzien/Johnson anyway because the 3rd string QB rarely impacts a season.

Please don’t do that again. Thanks.

      • Houston 9er says:

Give me a freaking break. Racism and homophobia? Really? I guess if you look hard enough you can find discrimination and intolerance anywhere. Good luck wasting your time with that stupidity.

    • Neanderthal Offense says:

      Jordo

Last year I wanted Smith to get a fair chance because he got so shafted by the team for so long. This year, as you surmised, he has not shown the chops our team needs to go get #6, #7, #8, etc … so I have evolved.

You are one of the biggest d*cks on here, but vindication is a fruit of righteousness, so you’re nowhere near as ridiculous as the Smithers, who don’t want what’s best for this team. Respect, Jordo.

      Pork

  31. Brotha Tuna says:

I’m watching Stanford vs UCLA so I can guess the 9ers game plan. Thinking: Infantry.

  32. Grant Cohn says:

Hogan is a terrific college quarterback. Can he throw a spiral?

  33. htwaits says:

“They cannot match up with Pro Bowl tight end Jimmy Graham, although no defense can match up with that giant. He caught five passes for 103 yards and 2 TDs in the NFC Wild Card game against the Niners.” … Grant

    All true and scary except that it wasn’t a NFC Wild Card game. ;-}

    • Grant Cohn says:

      Whoops. Good catch.

      • htwaits says:

Enjoy dinner. I assume Dad is paying. You better hope he is.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

Full report on dinner please. You gonna eat some gator?

      • Grant Cohn says:

I had the turtle soup and the filet mignon. I’ll write a full report tomorrow morning.

      • neal says:

I guess htwaits does not know that this is a business expense. The paper will pick it up, unless Lowell spends a $200 on a bottle of wine.

      • neal says:

        Grant,

I had a bowl of tuna helper tonight, and even had seconds with a wonderful glass of green ice tea., will also write a full report tomorrow morning as well.

      • Grant Cohn says:

        Neal,

        Can’t wait.

        Grant

      • Dangle says:

Are we comparing dinners tonight? Tuna poke, deep fried broccoli, blackened ribeye, jalapeño mashed potatoes, greens, 2004 Pinot noir, and an ice cream sundae with hot fudge sauce and crumbled half-baked brownies. No turtle, but pretty damn good.

      • Brotha Tuna says:

        Hey Neal-
You need to wrangle an invitation to Dangle’s. Sounds like a serious upgrade. : >)

      • neal says:

        Brotha Tuna,

I actually had Hamburger Helper, I am moving up in life, my 21 year old been living with us the last few months and eats like a horse, so can’t go 5 stars every night. Dangle, when am I getting the invite?

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

Chili with cheddar shred, fritos, and Daisy’s sour cream! Then chocolate chip cookie Snoopy cake with vanilla ice cream from the 1-yr old’s birthday party. The little sh*t keeps breakfast sausage in his cheeks for like 5 minutes, then sprays it at people and laughs like a devil.

      • Houston 9er says:

        Grant,

Not sure if your into art but the Blue Dog gallery is a few blocks away from Cafe Du Monde. You can go in and pick up a painting of a blue dog for only $20k.

My wife is an artist and she has dragged me into museums and galleries all over the world. It’s not my thing but if walking by her and nodding while she talks makes her happy then that’s a pretty damn easy job. The Blue Dog gallery is one of my favorites just because these people pay ridiculous sums of money for paintings that remind me of dogs playing cards. It’s truly a case of having more money than sense.

      • jgwindsor says:

just had some gator last week in the everglades….

      • Grant Cohn says:

        How was it? Very lean?

  34. htwaits says:

Of course you don’t have to match up with Jimmy Graham if you can catch the Brees before he can throw the ball. Go Aldon!

  35. A to the F says:

Grant making a big win prediction is like Dick Morris calling an election. Its the kiss of death.

  36. Neanderthal Offense says:

    Clem

    Glenfiddich
    Oban
    Lagavulin

    Rank them!

    • Msclemons67 says:

Luguvalin is like suckling at the teat of a Scottish goddess.

I’ve only had the well versions of Glendidditch. They aren’t bad. I hear the higher end offerings are quite nice.

I’m afraid I haven’t tried Oban. Highlands or Islay?

  37. Nick says:

    Grant

    How ’bout them Bruins?

  38. Willie niner says:

I got you msclemons. I feel you brother….. I have read your comments for a long time, some times you are on the money ,,,, some times you are not but I tell you I enjoy this blog soo much that I don’t want to be in another blog all of you guys in this blog are the best keep it up. I attend all the NINERS games and I can tell you stories but I rather read all of you guys blogs….

  39. Brotha Tuna says:

While I envy Grant & Lowell’s access to all that good N’awlins cuisine, it was 75 out at Marshall today while we had crab enchiladas. Just sayin’.

    • Neanderthal Offense says:

Marshall is the shiznit … spent a weekend at the coal n feed a few months ago. Love the Stinson to Jenner ride on the Duc.

    • Msclemons67 says:

What is wrong with you people? This is leftover weekend!

I’m attempting to make the perfect turkey-stuffing-sweet potato sandwich for breakfast. Opened faced with a basted egg?

      • msclemons67 says:

I could have used an answer before I ruined my sandwich.

Egg + sweet potato doesn’t mix well. It is fantastic with stuffing though.

  40. Neanderthal Offense says:

    Grant

I was angry back then. Don’t trouble yourself about it.

  41. Grant Cohn says:

I just want to say that everyone has interacted in a mature and good-hearted way recently. It’s fantastic.

    • Neanderthal Offense says:

Nice moonshine in LA, Grant? Got that warm, fuzzy feeling?

    • Coffee's for closers says:

      O rly?

      • Coffee's for closers says:

I think you just haven’t been paying close enough attention.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

        Hey Alec

Back up. Think about it in relative terms. Alex Smith has just been replaced, yet nothing has exploded. Only Prime went berserk. The rest of us have been remarkably civil, given the circumstances.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

So I guess when you spent thanksgiving day running around calling people stupid that was being remarkably civil? When you told Grant that you were angry back then are you talking about all of two days ago?

Relativity is no excuse for being an a hole. I’m glad you sobered up and realized that you were being a prick but don’t start acting like the patron saint of brotherly love you hypocrite.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

Alec, why so angry? If I was angry then, then I was a little more angry then I am now!

      • Jack Hammer says:

Oh boy, look who the cat dragged in…

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

        Told? How, Prime? Do tell!

Alec is uber sensitive and so are You, buddy. But Alec has smarts and talks football, which are redeeming traits.

        I smile, I smile.

  42. MontanaMan16/GobbleGobbleTurkey says:

My Irish are going to the National Championship!!!

  43. David says:

Depends on what 9ers show up. The ones that get punched in the mouth and put on their heels the whole game. Yeah those guys will loose for sure. The 9ers who do the agressing and punch harder. Those guys will go to the super bowl.

  44. Jack Hammer says:

Sacred Heart Prep is going to the CCS Finals after winning today. Why should you care? Their coach, Pete Lavorato is the person who taugh Harbaugh and his staff the Fly offense.

Oh, and he was my high school coach too. Way to go Coach!!!

  48. denis says:

Close game but one game does not make a backup, sorry 1.5 games. If drew does not throw the silly pics the saints win, remember last year the saints defense was horrible too… and really the game was won when Pierre Thomas fumbled and they lost the primary back…in the end none of this matters, only the score does… and who cares which on starts, they have the same style so the schemes are the same. Key for saints is to stop the run, and for the miners stop the pass…not really rocket science, close game with edge to home team playing for playoff life, god if you can beat Atlanta, a much better offense, you can win against anyone…the really dangerous teams are in the arc this year

  49. SourdoughSam says:

Neal by eluding to Steve Youngs race and religion you are in Fact a racist bigot and have zero respect you piece of trash

    • neal says:

  50. SourdoughSam says:

By the way neal obama is half white and voting for him doesn’t cover the fact you eluded that Steve Youngs race or religiong has anything to do with him as a baller you bigot

    • Brotha Tuna says:

Now Sam, this aint at you; its at all of us, but:
yesterday Grant posted some comments by Steve Young. I commented. Others commented. And it evolves (devolves) to this.
      Sheesh.
Some of us need mediation, some perhaps medication, and we probably all could use some meditation.
Let’s let Cowboy and P-Willy, Goldson & Whitner, Boonie & Ice express our angst for us.
