Rams knock out Alex Smith for the rest of the game

SAN FRANCISCO — Alex Smith was just walked off the field with his head down. He walked through the Giants old dugout with three trainers to go the locker room. He has a concussion and he’s not coming back to this game.

JoLonn Dunbar hit him in the head on a first-down scramble.

It’s on Colin Kaepernick to bring the 49ers down from a seven-point deficit.

For all the Alex Smithers, here is your chance to see if there is a better option on the roster. Ala Kaepernick (sp)

The video doesn’t show any direct contact with Smith’s head. My guess is that he’s hurt his shoulder and the team doesn’t want to disclose that type of injury when they can just call it a concussion instead.

It looked like his neck was hit pretty bad. Good thing that wasn’t PM.

It looked pretty vicious on his neck.

Not shoulder he got hit in the side of the head helmet to helmet.

    • Grant Cohn says:

My dad thought he saw Smith shaking his head on the sideline, as if his head hurt. Not entirely sure.

    • Jack Hammer says:

The defender got the back of his head just above the shoulder pad. It’s a concussion.

    • Coffee's for closers says:

Don’t agree, I see the hit to the shoulder and his head flinches because of the shoulder hit but I truly don’t think there is direct contact to the back of his head from the defender.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

I’ll admit that you can still get a concussion without direct hit, I’m just saying if you’re the 49ers you’d rather list the injury as a concussion then a shoulder injury when it’s your QB…who’s had shoulder injuries in the past.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

Here’s how you know for sure. If he’s out for next game it’s his shoulder.

Why did Kaepernick miss a wide open td pass? I thought only Alex Smith did that?

Oh yeah, it’s because every single qb in the history of time misses passes. Enjoy the game anti-Smith crew. Go Niners, regardless of who is under center.
