This has been the most amazing week that I’ve covered the 49ers.
First, Alex Smith got a concussion. Then, Jim Harbaugh had an irregular heart beat. And then Colin Kaepernick turned the whole team’s story line around.
Any one of these would have been a big deal, and we had three.
What a week. Am I missing anything?

The CK story is great, he looked like a veteran out there.
You really need to relax.
Yeah, Grant, I think Tinsel’s right. “Colin Kaepernick turned the whole team’s story line around”. Really?
You mean that with one game, he completely turned the story line around from a 6-2-1 record? Gee, I sure hope not!
While I would like to see CK start from here on out most likely it will be Alex..At the same time though now everyone knows including the recievers what they have on the bench so hes on an extremely short leash.
The tie game was a little out of the ordinary.
Smith practicing all week and then not getting cleared at the last second.
Coffee,
That was the impression. When AS went for another opinion, they knew he wasn’t going to play. CK got the snaps and no one knew because the media is banned from practices.
Although, unless he wasn’t telling the truth entirely, Kaep mentioned that he didn’t take the bulk of the snaps until Friday and I think Alex went for the 2nd opinion on Wed. /shrug I’ll agree that I shouldn’t have been so surprised.
Apparently kissing your sister causes brain trauma, heart problems and fantastic performances from backup quarterbacks.
Who knew?
And if they knew, how did they know?
Grant will Delanie Walker be a 49er next season?
I think teams will be willing to pay him more then the 49ers are to keep him, will he give the team a discount to stay or do you think he’ll cash in?
My guess is he’ll go elsewhere. DW is our swiss army knife, as gruden mentioned, but the 49ers have a couple of other higher priorities that are going to be expensive. Grant is right about DW’s drops though. Dude seems to drop the easy ones regularly and then sometimes makes a really spectacular grab.
I think the bigger contract issue will be Navarro Bowman. I can’t remember if he’s signed thru next year or the year after, but can this team afford to have two of the highest paid linebackers in the game? I would hate to seem them separated.
The bigger contract will be Bowman but I don’t think it’ll be the bigger issue. I think Bowman will work with the team because he knows that a LOT if not most of his success is because teams also have to block Willis and not just focus on him. If he went somewhere else without another dominant LB he wouldn’t be the same player.
Gruden called Delanie “McDonald” no less than 5 times last night. I also am worried DW wants to be a featured TE, not #2. Bowman has another year left on his contract.
Coffee: lets hope you are right. We know that him and Pat have a great relationship.
Mike, Thanks, and I can’t stop laughing at all the mistakes gruden makes.
The offense last night looked like what many thought it would when the new weapons were added in the offseason. They were explosive for a change.
They were explosive and they did look like how we thought they would BUT how much of last night went to our new toys? Only two passes to MM and one to Moss while it was one of our old toys that got all of the action.
My point I think, is that they would have probably still looked explosive if they hadn’t signed those two in the off season, which just opens up another point of course.
Pretty sure Aldon’s Smith’s 5.5 sack game was extraordinary as well
and two FF’s

Let’s add that last night’s game was on the national stage and the Bears and 30 other teams saw one heck of 49er team. To paraphrase Vernon Davis after the game, We sent a message.
Prime / Angus / Hofe / etc …
Are you aware that Steve Young, Trent Dilfer, Chris Carter, and all the rest of the former NFL pros ALL recognize that CK is the present and future of the team?
Or does that mean nothing to you guys?
I did not realize the 49ers hired all those guys in front office roles, when did that happen and when did they start making executive decisions?
If you can’t see that the Bears got out coached last night and came into a buzz saw 49er team you are as stupid as your name. One game does not make a career or a decision to make a drastic change. Leave that up to the professionals.
Primate — they all played and they all watched the game. Their opinions are worth more than yours. The point is, every single objective observer on the planet saw a real QB in there last night. Oh, here, that includes Harbaugh and Vernon Davis, both of whom looked shocked by Kaepernick’s amazing play – yet you still show up here downplaying it.
Why? Because you are so far up Alex’s rear that you are unwilling to be reasonable. You are a horrible representative of the Niner fan base. Alex will never get the team the trophy. Kaepernick will. Why don’t you want that?
Like I said, the decision will be made by the professionals who are employed by the team. I don’t base my loyalty or opinions on former players. I base it on who can win games. So what that means Tarzan is whoever can win games, I’m all in for and support.
If Kap starts I will cheer just the same. That’s what fans do. If Smith starts will you do the same?
>>If Smith starts will you do the same?
He probably will. But accompanied by all the annoying pissing and moaning and whining that is the hater’s hallmark.
Neanderthal,
I’m all in if they go with Kaep, and if I was in coach’s shoes, I’d probably decide to be ‘careful’ with Smith’s concussion, and delay making any sort of definitive statement until I had to, and give Kaep some free rein. The concussion can be the excuse not to ‘anoint’ anybody as the starter if he doesn’t want to.
My issue is that Smith has in fact been playing very, very will this year. If he’s benched, it’s more because of Kaep than Smith. Smith gets ripped by the haters, meanwhile he’s got a 20-5 record over the last 2 years, a crazy good td:int ratio, and is 3rd in the league in comp% and YPA. He’s done great. Give him some credit.
What?! Could it be?! A rational, thoughtful opinion in this comment section?!
I completely agree with you, Angus. Kaepernick got this opportunity because Smith was concussed putting his body on the line for this team, like he’s always done. The man has been more loyal and dedicated to this team than most of his critics have ever been to anything in their lives. I’d hope that if Kaep takes this thing and runs with it, my fellow Niner fans will avoid acting like those of the team across the bay and at least give Smith the respect he deserves.
Whoever the starter is, I will support him and trust that the staff knows what they’re doing. At the end of the day, we have 2 very good QB’s on this team.
So you’ve been cheering for CK since he destroyed the Bears yesterday? In what universe is your crying and bitching and trying to equate CK and Smith being supportive of Kaepernick? You said at halftime yesterday that Smith would have been 13-15 for 200 yards!!! Ludicrous! When has Smith EVER led the Niners to 4 straight scores to open a game?
You are beyond disingenuous! You are a total phony!!!
Settle down sparky! You are popping off when you have no clue. Just shut er down and grab a breath before you pass out.
You have been exposed as the lying moron you are. You’re not a fan. You’re an Alex Fluffer. Go root for the Seahawks. They’ll welcome your affinity for mediocrity!
Show me the quote where I said Alex would be 13-15 and 200 yards?
>>Go root for the Seahawks.
Again. You’ve obviously not followed posting history around here. It’s only Alex haters who have publicly stated they will no longer be fans of the team if AS stays on the team.
The rest of us? We are here through thick and thin.
Quit projecting, dude.
You erased it
Huh? Was that directed to Grant? He’s the only one around here that can do that.

If Smith were playing he’d be 15 of 17 for 2oo yards, 2 TD’s and the niners would be up 28 nothing. CK looks good, glad he’s there. But some of you guys are getting giddy like a bunch of girls around the big new man on campus.
Or do you not remember writing that (Woody)?
You are on glue, I looked cannot find it. Provide the link Tarzan!
It’s cause you changed your name to Woody after the first half. You lying piece of Alex Excrement.
Btw, I’m not an Alex Hater by any stretch, just a real fan who knows the difference between a good QB and a great one.
Whatever Tarzan. Will you support Alex if he gets the start next week?
Prime
Looks like ur the one with the egg face after CK played like a real QB..lol
Yeah dude. Always have. He’s been really good this year. Just not capable of winning a SB. If he does win it, I will be ecstatic. Shocked beyond belief, but ecstatic!
Alright monkeyboy, that was a fervent morning. Adios amigo.
It reminds of a coworker i use to work with. 2 months in the job he wanted a promotion to a manager. When he didnt get it, he quit. Everything in due time. C.K. 7
Time is NOW…AS has had 7+yrs..time for a change
ESPN and NFL net analysts disagree but we shall see how well JH does with damage control.
Not sure it’s amazing, but the TEAM moved into the second seed in the conference. Is it still about the team?
