What is the No.2 topic on the 49ers?

We all agree the quarterback controversy is the No.1 topic on the 49ers right now.

I think it’s also topics two through five.

If you can suggest a No.2 topic that’s not the quarterbacks, please do and give a reason.

    • ribico says:

      From the link:

      >>A deep, explosive passing-game. These days, it’s the key to success. Sure, we’d almost reached the Super Bowl without one. But “almost” doesn’t cut it. To take the next step, we had to improve. To take the next step, we had to have it.

Basing the failure of a team, and especially an out-of-nowhere team with a losing record the 8 previous seasons, to reach the superbowl on the sample size of a single season makes about as much sense as predicting the overwhelming carreer success of CK based on a single game.

But I read it on the internet, so it must be the holy truth.

    • AES says:

Good article by Jeff Kaplan, Bay.

He only validates what we all seen on the field Monday night.
A QB who was efficient, poised, and explosive.

Now to be fair, you could use a couple of those decriptions for Alex Smith. But explosive is definitely not the one.

CK did not just come in to play Monday night, he burst onto the scene!
CK threw 6 passes for over 20 yrds. That’s more than efficient, in a Harbaugh type offense, it’s down-right explosive.

Harbaugh traded three draft picks to obtain CK. You do not trade away 3 picks unless you firmly believe that you are getting something special in return.

Once again, I’m not advocating that CK start over AS.
But perhaps it’s high time to at least get used to the fact that it will come much sooner than later.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

Why are you “not advocating” for Kaepernick?

      • FDM says:

Because AES is a smart football fan unlike some of you who are all knee jerk. CK is a good player. But to lead us to the promise land, there are a few more hurdles he needs to step over. Have we seen CK against a heavy blitz team? How about on the road against a tough opponent in a hostile environment?

We have the luxury of developing him. No need to disrupt that when we are winning and have a guy that is more than capbale. No hater wants to hear that but 19-5 says otherwise.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

Yeah FDM and Alex won the Superbowl last year, I forgot. Did you not watch the Bears game?

I swear to mother Theresa, all you people saying he should be brought along slowly and Alex is the best option just COULD NOT have seen that game! How the hell do your eyes see the obviously dynamic and explosive QB that Harbaugh used 3 draft picks on and say he’s not a better option than a QB who lost his job to Shaun Hill, T Rattay, JTO, Troy Smith, etc…?

Do you not trust your own eyes?!!! There’s absolutely NO WAY IN HELL you could have watched the Bears game and not seen that Kaep: 1. Handles the pre-snap reads adequately; 2. Has a friggin Howitzer; 3. Makes his teammates around him better; 4. Pulls the trigger on plays that allow VD to be involved; 5. Throws the slant extremely well; 6. Has a quick release; 7. Throws with touch; 8. Throws with accuracy while on the run; 9. Doesn’t take sacks; 10. Gets rid of the ball when he is outside the pocket so as not to lose yardage; 11. Doesn’t turn the ball over…

All that against a defense that was on record pace for turnovers and scoring, and had held Rogers and other “elite” QBs to ratings and statistics WELL below their season averages.

        Kaepernick’s adjusted QBR: 99.5 out of a possible 100.0.

      • FDM says:

Neanderthal Offense, one game and your untrained eyeballs are not enough to make a final decision or conclusion. The fan base is excited as they should be but wanting to see more over a period of time against different teams and situations is better to make any type conclusion.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

Untrained? Really? How do you know?

My eyes have watched Alex for 7+ years now, and they hurt. They’re tired of the mediocrity.

When they set themselves upon this new guy, they sprung back to life!!!

You are right, he does need more exposure, and the time for that is now, immediately. There is no glory in anything but a Superbowl win, Alex won’t get us that, but Kaepernick might. Now is the time to start heading in that direction.

      • Chris says:

Well, we don’t know how well Colin does with pre-snap reads against anything other than a straight up vanilla defense with outstanding players. Colin is a freak of nature type talent, who is pretty smart, if inexperienced against NFL defenses. The Bears are playing the same exact defense they have played the entire time that Urlacher has been in Chicago, and they are really good at it. However, they do not do a ton of disguising coverages, crazy stunts at the line of scrimmage, crazy zone defenses, or really anything that is super complex to diagnose. You know, the type of defense that takes some experience to beat. CK has a HOWITZER, and the 49ers have some F-22′s for CK to shoot down with it in VD, KW, RM, and MM. Each one of those guys is incredibly quick/fast for his position. The bears are in general, slightly slower than average as a team. Urlacher and Briggs are no speed demons, especially as they get older, Tillman is solid but not lightning quick, and very very few safeties can keep up with VD if he isn’t being asked to pass/run block on every play. CK played great, but let’s let him play against a few different types of defenses, and against some teams that have a good amount of game tape of him before we say “CK is our future… RIGHT NOW”. As isn’t even cleared to play yet, so personally I’m rooting for one more week of CK, especially against this porous NO defense. That way, hopefully AS is cleared to play, but doesn’t have to unless CK struggles reading the saints’ defense. Best of both worlds, where AS gets another week to recover from a concussion, and CK gets another start.

    • AES* says:

      Neanderthal,

My take is that AS (although stoic in his approach) has been good enough to to win in this offense.
Also, he is the most experienced and established in the Harbaugh scheme.

This is not a swipe against CK. It’s just a fact.
As much as I like CK, at the moment I’m more comfortable with the propect of AS at QB.

Now, that’s just my opinion N.O. it’s far from the gospel (lol).
As I said after the Monday night game, I’ve been around long enough to see players come in to a game and completely dominate, only to see that one game become the signature high point game of their career.

I would like to see CK over a few games to make a better judgement and assessment rather than base his unseating an established/winning starter only after one start.

Consistency matters to me. If CK gets the start against the Saints and has a game close to what he did against the Bears, perhaps I begin to lean towards him starting, but as of now, I’m staying with AS. And believe me, I’m far from an AS fan. But I just wouldn’t feel good about changing the atmosphere of the team/locker room just yet.

  2. IMG says:

Will the niner D (specifically D-ine play – run D and pass rush) show up on a consistent basis?

  3. Neanderthal Offense says:

    Topic #2:

Are the Niners coaches taking adequate care of Frank Gore, or should they be reducing his carries in the last third of the season?

    • bayareafanatic says:

Very good question Neanderthal. Gore’s carries need to be managed. At one point this season Jacobs and Hunter should carry the load and give Gore a week off.

    • AngusinCanada says:

I don’t think they’re over-using him at all, and are doing a good job of keeping him fresh for the big show! Unless there’s an injury, or the 49ers wrap up homefield early, I don’t think we’ll see Jacobs active this year.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

He’s on pace for another 250+ carry season. It would be the fourth highest of his career. His per rush average is the second highest it’s ever been (5.3 v. 5.4), so he is highly effective. You’re probably correct Angus, but the toll taken on an old RB must be taken ino account as the season goes on.

That said, Gore changed his offseason workout this year and appears to have benefitted from it significantly.

I only hope the team stay mindful of the need to have a fresh Frank Gore when the NFCCG rolls around.

      • AngusinCanada says:

Wow. I didn’t realize that he was on pace for 250+ carries. I’d like to see a bit more Hunter from here on out, once they’ve got a comfortable lead in games type of thing.

  4. ribico says:

A pass rusher with a legitimate shot of setting the NFL single season sack record is a pretty bfd to me.

  5. Mood_Indigo says:

No 2 topic: in which game will Aldon break Strahan’s single season record of sacks? He needs 8 more sacks. I’m guessing it’s the Dec 30 game against the Cardinals. And whoever’s the Cardinal QB at the time will have a real bad day. He may just choose to lie down at Aldon’s feet like Favre did …

  6. CEOJoel says:

Sure the numbers show that ASmith has done better as of late. And I, for one, believe no one has the heart and character of an Alex Smith. True team player. HOWEVER – we all see that there’s many situations that he fails to get the ball to his play makers when he should. It’s not just once in awhile, which would more than be tolerable – it would be expected. It’s on a REGULAR basis. I wish for Alex lots of success. But if Kaep can do what he did vs the Bears on a consistent basis, there is NO WAY ASmith keeps his job. I do believe that the Bears were caught off guard by an aggressive passing scheme, when it was obvious they thought we would run and be very conservative. We will see.

    • Neanderthal Offense says:

Wow!!! A rational comment! It’s amazing. Someone who appreciates Alex AND is able to see the obvious truth about Kaepernick. Ribs, Prime, you guys reading this?

      • ribico says:

        >>Ribs, Prime, you guys reading this?

You have me pegged wrong. I see the world of potential in CK’s ability, all he has to do is keep on keeping on. And if he does, he’s going to be a great 49er QB.

However, that does not preclude me from arguing against posters taking mindless potshots at AS either. I’ve never saw a 20-5 QB so reviled by a bunch of nit-wits and I will call you out on it every time.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

        Rib

I am not an Alex hater. Don’t peg me wrong either. I was as righteous about Alex getting his chance last year as anybody, and he performed well. He deserved a chance to play for a great coach, and under Harbaugh he has shown how high he can fly. But he seems unable to fly any higher. His zenith was that Saints game, and we all hoped that with a full offseason he’d continue that type of play this year, with consistency. Well, he hasn’t. He failed miserably against the Giants and with that game, proved that he doesn’t have “it.” What else was he waiting for than a chance to take down the team that made him look so bad last postseason? He didn’t perform. The lights were bright and he had all the reason in the world to go out there and stake his claim as a monster QB, but instead he retreated meekly, and the Niners were blown out. Is that what you want in your leader?

It’s not what I want. I want a big, strong, confident athlete who runs around the field with a smile on his face, who pops up quickly after taking a sandwich sack between 2 huge linemen, who runs to the endzone to celebrate with his guys after a TD, who goes to Kendall Hunter on the sideline after a TD to revel in the excitement of a tough, productive run.

It’s not Alex’s fault that he had the spirit rocked out of him during his first 6 years in SF, playing for the two worst HCs in the history of the league, but he just doesn’t have that fire, that arrogance or cockiness (a la Rodgers, Roethlisberger, Eli) that makes a QB the kind of guy other guys want to follow. You can see it most clearly in Vernon’s postgame presser. He was apologizing to (and for) Alex Smith. “Sorry Bud, but you don’t make that throw, and I’ve been open. Yeah, you’re genuine, and I’ve always stuck by you, but now the handcuffs are off and I have to dance with the dude that unshackled me.”

It’s like driving a Prius and then driving a Ferrari. You just don’t want to go back.

      • ribico says:

        >>What else was he waiting for than a chance to take down the team that made him look so bad last postseason? He didn’t perform.

Hey, the defense had the same motivation and how did they perform? Just allowed a receiver with a gimpy leg – Hixon – to make big catch after big catch, a back – Bradshaw – to punish them for more rushing yards than they’d given up in 2 years. You need to spread it around if you are going to base it-ness on one single game and falling short under the bright lights.

See, this is why you are called a hater.

      • claude balls says:

        @ ribico:

Yeah, I don’t think Neanderthal was fooling anyone with that b/s.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

        Ribs

Not a hater. Big time QBs step up in big time games. That is why Montana will always be better than Brady and Eli is better than Peyton.

All you who value anything other than Superbowls are unworthy of this team and its supreme status in the league.

      • ribico says:

        >>Eli is better than Peyton.

Arguably, now he is. But you don’t want to know what the NY media and fans were saying of him, wishing of him, while he was working his way up to the big time. Living in NYC, beleive me I know.

    • dangle says:

very well said joel. And i think the question which remains to be answered is: will JH put alex back in, knowing what they have in him, or will they try to find out if CK can duplicate those results against a team that will be expecting him, game planning for him, disguising coverages, etc.

      • dangle says:

on that note… does anyone know if the Bears changed up their defense drastically in that MNF game? They were so hyped and feared throughout the league and just looked rice paper thin against the 49ers. I haven’t really watched the bears this year, Does anybody know if they changed up their game plan from what they usually run?

    • Bray says:

Rib- Right there with you. I REALLY like the promise of the future, but the relentless under-appreciation and angst towards AS is hard to take when you love your TEAM.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

If Alex is the QB this year, the Niners will not win the Superbowl. That is not angst or under appreciation. That is simply fact.

      • ribico says:

I’m not even going t0 say it this time.

      • claude balls says:

        @ Neanderthal:

        That is simply fact.

        No, that is your opinion.

Why do so many of the haters not understand the difference between opinion and fact?

      • Bray says:

Claude- They never will, their opinion is the gospel and anybody who disagrees is an idiot.

IMO many times it’s just for kicks to get reaction from people, other times I’m not sure if their brain works correctly, otherwise you wouldn’t present statments of things that haven’t happened yet as fact.

        FORTY NIIIIIIIINNNNERS!!!!!

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

I’m not a hater. And while it’s definitely an opinion, it will also be proven factual if Harbaugh errs by continuing to allow Alex to play while leaving CK on the bench.

      • dangle says:

no you neanderthal, it won’t be “proven factual.”

      • claude balls says:

        @ Neanderthal:

        I’m not a hater.

Your brief history of commenting says otherwise.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

The statement will not be proven factual when Alex fails to win a Superbowl?

Do you not understand language and grammar or do you actually believe that Alex can win the trophy?

      • ribico says:

Here’s a fact. 31 other team’s QBs will not win the Superbowl either. Including some that could eat AS’s or CK’s lunch. What should those teams do about their failure at QB?

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

Claude, not recent, just often banished for abusive practices against Jordo last year because he was such an unabashed hater.

I don’t hate Alex. I just want the team to win the Superbowl THIS year. That requires a QB with “it.”

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

The teams that don’t have top-notch QBs should be looking for replacements. Contrary to what you just wrote, there are no QBs in the league who could eat CKs lunch, but about 10 who could eat Alex’s.

      • ribico says:

        >>there are no QBs in the league who could eat CKs lunch

Yes, we have all seen CK’s one-game HOF career.

I don’t even know why I’m going back and forth with you.

      • dangle says:

You cannot prove a conditional value assumption (if harbaugh errs) to be factual without knowing a) the outcome and b) what the other outcome would be had he not “erred”

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

        Rib

No need. Just read. You learn more by listening than blabbing incessantly. Keep your figurative mouth shut and take it as it’s dished out.

Harbaugh knew which QB he wanted, took him, and will turn him into the best QB of his generation. That’s what we have in store for us.

        Watch and learn, pal.

        Adios …

      • dangle says:

and even if they don’t win the superbow with alex starting at QB (which yes I think is possible), it won’t prove factually that Harbaugh should have started CK

      • claude balls says:

        @ dangle:

Do you really think you are arguing with someone who appreciates logic?

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

        Dangle

I know what I know. If Harbaugh errs by leaving Smith in, the Niners will not win the Superbowl. Fact.

Don’t hate because you are limited by living in only 3 dimensions. Jack*ss!

      • dangle says:

ok Paul simon, you know what you know… chillax. But consider reading this:

        http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-difference-between-fact-and-opinion.htm

Basically, you have “prediction” that the 49ers won’t win the superbowl with Alex at QB. Thats fine for you to think, and statistically, not unlikely. But that is your prediction, not a fact. A “Fact” is something like: “The 49ers Did Not win the superbowl last year with alex smith at QB.”

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

        Dangle

You extended the rationale to include a statement I never made. I said only that the Niners will not win a Superbowl with Alex. He let the Giants take his lunch (thats for you Rib) the last two times he played the Giants; why? Because he is soft and lacks “it.” I waited until this year to make that determination, unlike the Haters. He has had 1.5 years with Harbaugh.

But Harbaugh can’t teach “it.” If you know anything about the life and career of Kaepernick, you’ll know that he does have “it.” Harbaugh researched, learned, and went all in. That, my friend, IS a fact.

      • dangle says:

lol.. OMG thats so funny I almost spit out the water I was drinking! you have got to stop!

      • claude balls says:

Don’t hate because you are limited by living in only 3 dimensions.

        Spitblood, is that you?

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

        Dangle

At least I know I’m dealing with a smart dude. Alex is living in the hurricane eye right now. He knows that as much as he gussies himself up to look like a wolf, he’s still a sheep. Kaep is the wolf, and Harbaugh the sly pig.

Done with this ridiculous thread now. Thanks for playing.

      • dangle says:

And I didn’t even get into the 3 dimensions comment. You sir are hilarious!

      • dangle says:

are you moving to go be “the decider” somewhere else? C’mon Man!

      • dangle says:

OMG Harbaugh is the sly pig!!!!! I should get that tattoo!

    • Randy says:

      correct assement

  7. Fourth & Alex says:

#2 topic? Nah.. the only thing wrong with the Niners was the QB play of Alex Douglas Smith.

The receivers (once a weakness) have emerged from last season and we’ve gone out and gotten some extra help there. If we can get anywhere close to the type of play Kaep has given us in the Bears game in a consistent basis, we will be extremely tough to beat going forward.

  8. Brotha Tuna says:

The #1 Topic is finding the way to beat a streaking Saints team in their house. There is no number 2 topic.

    • Neanderthal Offense says:

Shouldn’t be that tough. Who have they been streaking against?

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

Streaking … Got it, that’s 3 games in a row?

Lose by 20 to Denver, beat a pathetic Eagles team by 15, then an overrated Falcons team by 4, and the worst team in the NFL by 21…

Not really a streaking team by any stretch of the imagination. The Niners will burn their wings and bring them crashing back down. Just like in the playoffs, except this time the Saints won’t score more than 17.

      • ribico says:

5-1 is pretty good streak no matter who you are playing (and they’ve beaten some fairly good teams in the stretch – Bucs, Chargers, Falcons)

      • Brotha Tuna says:

I see them as a team on the rise and gaining confidence; therefore a dangerous opponent. Not unlike the G-men last year. They’re always better in their house. Look up their record; they’re playing better. Yeah, I know, the Raiders, but that ain’t the only game they’ve won.

      • ribico says:

The good thing is this no way resembles the Saints from last year and playing @NO is no longer an automatic loss for the opposition.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

Bucs have recently picked up the pace and the Chargers are horrific. Rivers as caused 50 turnovers since the beginning of the 2011 season (he’s still better than Romo though). If you want to call the Falcons a good team, I won’t argue, but they are overrated in their ranking.

      • ribico says:

Well Nea, no predictive logic would dictate a tie with the Rams. On any given Sunday and all that. And Brees is a threat always.

      • Neal says:

        Ribico,

It was very disappointing effort against the Rams, here is the thing, our defense is now optimistic, that they don’t need to save every game because of AS flaws, CK perhaps can put less pressure on them, and it seems to me, that all of the Niners were having fun against Chicago, something you have not seen in a long time

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

Harbaugh called Chris Long a rolling ball of butcher knives. And Jeff Fisher is a monster. I bet you Harbaugh had some predictive logic going. That was a big time trap game, especially seeing that the Rams are undefeated within the NFCW.

      • ribico says:

Neal, if you think the D is over the hump, back on track, due to whatever reason, including a change at QB, that’s all good and well.

However, I’ll have to wait and see. This year they’ve been, what’s that word that’s bandied about? Inconsistent. They’ve let far too many backs gash them, far too many teams drive the field this year. Chicago *was* a feast for them – I think more to do with the rare combo of an overwhelmed backup QB and an abysmal OL.

This is a big a game for our D as it is for whoever is playing QB, IMO. Will they make the kind of statement that will carry the team through the season and beyond? Or will it be Minnesota again?

    • OpenMinded says:

+1 to Brotha Tuna’s post. The only topic is the next opponent. Saints must be looking for revenge after Niners booted them from the playoffs last year. This game it’s in their house. They’ve been winning of late and Brees is not Jason Campbell. There are plenty of sub plots and story angles to take on this game.

  9. Neanderthal Offense says:

Any time you have to face Brees, Graham, & Payton, you’re in for a fight. Take any one of them away, though, and the degree of difficulty drops significantly. Joe Vitt is not Payton, and Brees without Payton is really not Brees.

So, Ribs, if the Niners can put some points on the board EARLY, this one will be a laugher.

    • OpenMinded says:

As a Niner fan, I hope you are right. The Niners do have extra incentives also in playoff home filed implications and that this is the first game they face the Saints since they’ve heard the Greg Williams tapes. Kyle Williams ACL comments, etc. Again, plenty of angles about this game to make it topic #1 …

    • ribico says:

Maybe yes, maybe no. Remember the 17-0 early lead in the playoffs last year?

  10. Alexsmith4mvp says:

#2 can the 9ers play three good games in a row? So far the answer has been no, but no matter what seed we will have to win three (or four is no bye) to win the Super Bowl. So far we play two great games then collectively lay an egg

  11. Razoreater says:

The 49ers are going to send the Saints to hell for there malevolent fantasies in the NFC Playoff game.

  12. Crab15 says:

Who Dat??? Where are the swamp people? The big-mouth/toothless Saints fans that were in our blog for playoff game. They talked crap then scurried like rats after Alex kicked their asses last year! Who Dat??????? Someone check archives for screen names. Who Dat bounty hunter??? Who Dat?

    • dangle says:

hahahaha Who Dat Now that we kicked ur sorry butts!!! if they still don’t know whodat is yet, thats their problem and probably why they’re also called the ‘aints

    • Brotha Tuna says:

      @ Crabs
Actually there is a Saints fan who calls himself WhoDat who was jawing on here last year, but he came back after the playoff game and manned-up. I respected that. There’s plenty of incentive for both teams. I think everybody better buckle up.

  13. bayareafanatic says:

I keep mentioning production. How about this.
CK’s last 7 quarters the offense has scored 49 points.
AS’s last 9 quarters the offense has scored 20 points.

And I am sure during that span AS’s has completed a very high number of his passes. And they have won. But how do you ignore the difference in points.

    • Neanderthal Offense says:

      Bay

      You’re such a hater.

Why don’t you go to Turlock and see if you can rent out Kaepernick’s childhood bedroom from his parents?

      • bayareafanatic says:

Call me a hater if you want, but isn’t that why Harbaugh experimented with CK in the redzone? Cause AS couldn’t score TD’s?
How do you ignore the stat I just put up.
One QB in a very small sample size is averaging 2.22 points per quarter, and the other is averaging 7 points per quarter.
Maybe Smith should go sleep in CK’s old room to see if some of that magic will rub off on him.

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

        I can’t and don’t want to.

I was just seeing if I could imitate an Amex Fluffer with any success!

Your input is both savvy and irrefutable.

      • claude balls says:

        @ bay:

How do you ignore the stat I just put up.

We didn’t. At least two of us have noted that your numbers are fictional. The better question is “Why do you keep making up stats?”

    • Jack Hammer says:

Bay, you’re numbers are wrong, they should be…

CK’s last 7+ quarters the offense has scored 49 points.
AS’s last 9+ quarters the offense has scored 44 points.

Those 9+ quarters include 13 against Seattle, 24 against Arizona, and 7 in a quarter + against St Louis.

      • Jack Hammer says:

Oops, make that 47 points for Kaep, 2 of those points were from the defense on the safety.

      • bayareafanatic says:

        Jack how do you figure?
3 Quarters against the Giants zero points
4 quarters against Seahawks 13 points
2 quarters against the Rams 7 points

That totals out 20 points 9 quarters. Throw in a 10th quarter where the niners scored 3 and that’s 23 points in 10 quarters which is roughly two and a half games.

      • bayareafanatic says:

Sorry gents had the wrong screen up. The Cards game was missing you are correct.

    • claude balls says:

      @ bay:

CK’s last 7 quarters the offense has scored 49 points.
AS’s last 9 quarters the offense has scored 20 points.

      And the factual misstatements continue.

In Smith’s last 9 quarters (9.5 if we accurately give him 1.5 quarters for the Rams game), the 49ers’ offense scored 44 points – 13 against Seattle, 24 against Arizona and 7 against St. Louis.

In Kaepernick’s 7.5, quarters, the offense scored 47 points – 17 against St. Louis and 30 against Chicago. The defense scored 2 points on the Chilo Rachal safety.

Advantage Kaepernick, but not nearly to the degree suggested by your incorrect facts.

I ask again, what’s with all the misstatements of fact? Are you dishonest or just ignorant?

      • Neanderthal Offense says:

If Harbaugh had allowed CK to keep passing in the second half there’s no telling how many more points they would have scored in the second half. He had 184 of his 243 by the end of the second quarter and 232 by the end of the third. Harbaugh essentially shut him down after halftime.

      • ribico says:

        >>If Harbaugh had ….

I’m not sure how many times this has to be said. Hypotheticals != an argument.

      • claude balls says:

        @ Neanderthal:

True, but the exact same thing can be said for the Cardinals game.

      • bayareafanatic says:

Ok so the numbers for the offense under Smith is roughly 5.15 points per quarter. And in a small sample size so far under CK it’s just a hair under 7.

I did not factor in CK’s wildcat scoring because he only came in for a play or two. Too difficult to break it down to points per play.

The difference is 1.75 points per quarter which equate to 7 points more per game. Got to admit if that held up it’s intriguing. Now I want to see CK play just to see if he keeps up the average.

  14. JMartinez says:

The #2 topic is who in the locker room wants smith and who wants CK to start?

    • Neanderthal Offense says:

      Love this topic

    • ribico says:

So what…. The faction that doesn’t get it’s way is going to play a little less hard? If they do, I don’t want their pouty @ss anywhere near my team.

This has no bearing on anything whatsoever.

    • tinsel says:

“Kaepernick played last night and happened to do a good job but Alex is still the man, no question,” Davis told KNBR on Tuesday, via SportsRadioInterviews.com.

      • claude balls says:

        @ tinsel:

Great. That interview will only spawn another 1000 comments.

        - See, I told you that you were projecting when you said that the receivers preferred Kaep!

        – No, Harbaugh got to Davis and made him to say that to spare Smith’s fragile ego!

        - Did not!

        - Did too!

      • dangle says:

Given how VD tows the company line pretty hard in an all encompassing effort to be politically correct, I’m guessing that him saying that is essentially echoing what Harbaugh has told the team. So i guess that gives us the answer of who will be starting If both QBs are healthy. just a guess but oh well.

      • ribico says:

        >>No, Harbaugh got to Davis and made him to say that to spare Smith’s fragile ego!

Then the whole subdiscussion of this point – why should Harbaugh care about Smith’s ego any longer when he’s already made the transition from him???

      • tinsel says:

I wonder why Grant Cohn aka “Willy Wonka of start shyte up” did not create a blog about davis comments?

  15. Niv3242 says:

R some of u guys blind. If the 49ers brought in players to go deep. And they r getting open in the inzone and he takes the 7 yard gain that’s not a good play. Look at how many times alex has missed players open in the inzone. Or not even looked deep and there a 20 yard gain. You don’t think that the players see that in the film room. To work hard to get by your defender and not even get a look is a waste of hard work. That’s why players are not coming to AS side. U guys that can’t have to open your eyes and see that As owes it to the hard work of his team that he is not even trying to give them respect if they are doing there jobs to get open. And he can’t find a way to get them the ball. Kap was doing what AS can’t do. Look down field when the rush is coming he gets all scared and takes to long to set up to make the throw. Over and over AS can not get the ball to the open deep man. It’s sad that his team looked like they new who was the qb that they wanted out there. That says alot to how many times AS has wasted a good play. For a 5 or 6 yard play. And he has a hard time leading players for yac. Kap gave the players that chance. It’s not fair if the better player is not playing. AS knows kap is better and that’s why he can not play right after kap has gone in. He knows that it’s only time before he will be in the bench. And he still is to scared to go deep to open players in the inzone! Come on the best player should play that’s kap! If u think pass work should give u a start over someone that is playing better then u. Then that’s not fair to the 49ers team and fans! And for the players that bust there asses off to get open deep. To see AS to scared to get the ball to them! That’s BS! Play the better player that’s kap. I know that JH knows this and that’s why he said what he and a lot of the team seems to be to take the hint fans AS is not better then kap! VD said kaps the man!!!!

    • tkamB says:

Where is this “inzone” you speak of?

    • Randy says:

where do you get your information from? Are you in the locker room? It’s not “fair” to the players and fans to start the 3rd ranked QB in football?13 td..104 QB rating…19-5 record…comeback win against a team that everybody picked to beat us…yep..that”s totally unfair

  16. rocket says:

How about predicting the rest of the season?

    Games remaining:

@New Orleans – Tough one to call but I’ll predict a W based on the fact the Niners are coming off of a great win and the Saints defense is terrible.

@STL Rams – I think the Niners win this one convincingly after being embarrassed at home two weeks ago.

Miami – Should be an easy victory

@New England – This is where things get a little more difficult to predict. The Pats offense is fantastic, but their defense is porous. The Cards beat them in Foxboro earlier in the season so how good is this team? I will call this a loss, although I would not be surprised if the Niners walked out with a win.

@Seattle – I’m going to call this a loss because the Hawks are a different team at home than they are on the road. One of the toughest places to win in the league and these teams always play very close games.

Arizona – Could be a game where the Niners are resting people but either way, should be a win.

    What say you all?

    • Bray says:

Rocket- I pretty much agree with your synopsis. I can see anywhere from 6-0 to 3-3 with the reamining games. NE\NO\SEA are the only potential losses I see.

I can see Belicheck [Sp?] taking this game as a personal challenge on a coaching level. Why he is generally thought of as the ‘best’ coach out there today, he can’t but feel threatened somewhat by all the pub JH and his crew get. That being said, I’m pretty sure JH\GR will open their bag-o-tricks a little bit wider for that game.

    • AngusinCanada says:

I’m saying 9′ers go 5-1 the rest of the way. The St. Louis tie was just what the doctor ordered. Harbaugh will have them operating with a fierce intensity of focus, immediate purpose, and execution each game.
Since I’m predicting one loss, I’ll go with a loss at….nope, changed my mind. 6-0 the rest of the way, in a dog fight for home field advantage with GB and ATL.

  17. Hov says:

This is easy topic number 2 can aldon smith break the sack record for a single season???????

  18. Mark says:

    Number 2?

“Just how giddy is Grant Cohn now that he’s successfully manufactured a fictional quarterback controversy?”
