Which 49ers made Pro Football Weekly’s midseason All-Pro team?

Pro Football Weekly just announced their midseason All-Pro team. Considering how good the 49ers defense is, you’d expect a few those players to make it. They didn’t.

Surprisingly, two players on the offense made the team – Mike Iupati and Anthony Davis. Punter Andy Lee also made it.

PFW named Aaron Rodgers the midseason All-Pro QB, Adrian Peterson and Marshawn Lynch the running backs and Rob Gronkowski the tight end.

PFW also gave midseason All-Pro honors to Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith and Denver Broncos general manager John Elway.

What do you think of these selections?

I’d have expected a couple of our guys to make the defensive team, too. But, after further review, it doesn’t matter. The Team, The Team, The Team!

I was a huge critique preseason of the secondary. It appears that they’ve held it together pretty well. I think this list is pretty accurate though.

Bold Predictions: New Orleans makes the playoffs. Minnesotta doesn’t. And Mitt Romney wins the election tonight by 5 %.

Washington and Lee at ILB over Willis is, to put it nicely, interesting.

All those sacks by Washington are nice, but he is no where near the player Willis is, or Bowman for that matter.

I think the exclusion of 49ers defenders is in part to the fact they don’t have great individual stats, but dominate as a unit.

It’s difficult to take this PFW midseason All-Pro team seriously without one 9er player on defense making the team. Yes, very interesting!

  5. Coffee's for closers says:

Polls like this are too reliant upon stats. Things like leadership and what their presence does to a coordinator’s game plan aren’t taken into consideration. If so Bowman, Willis, Aldon and Justin Smith would all be on the list as well as Frank Gore and Vernon Davis.

Correct Coffee- I just read a quote today that I really like and I think pertains directly to your post and many others posted on this blog.

“The un-measurables of a man are far more important than the measurables”

It is based on stats, mainly turnovers, sacks and TD’s. The Niners have the best tandem of inside LB’s in the league and that is what hurts their numbers. Before Bowman arrived, PW was putting up 150 tackle seasons, now he doesn’t because he’s got a comparable player next to him. It’s funny that nobody from the top rated defense in the league made their list, but that is probably not a bad thing. It means they play as a unit with no individual having to do more than their own job.

I’m glad Iupati and Davis got some recognition on the Oline though. That’s pretty impressive.

Baseball turned a blind eye to its performance enhancing drug problem that it had because it wanted more home runs. Home runs spelled excitement and more viewers.
The NFL also wants scoring. For that reason you cannot put any of the 49er offensive weapons on the pro bowl team except VD. The viewer audience would get put to sleep.
What’s worse is that we may be the first power running team without a true power runner and without a RB that can take it to the house. Gore for all of his strengths has never been able to get the one tough yard we needed it, and he’s always gotten caught from behind. Strange……

  7. old coach says:

I think the 9er D does’nt get the respect it deserves because its a bend do’nt break defense. They are efficient but not spectacular. Also they have’nt forced nearly as many turnovers as last year at this time

    • bayareafanatic says:

      Disagree,
I think the D isn’t getting the respect it deserves because we aren’t getting to the QB like last year and we aren’t taking the ball away like last year.
We basically put up numbers last year that we knew we couldn’t sustain.

      • old coach says:

@Bay i mentioned the turnovers and i believe the lack of sacks goes hand in hand with the bend do’nt break style of D

  8. Neal says:

They are the main reason why we are 6-2.

  9. MidWestNiner says:

Just keep ignoring the Niners. That just makes the quest for a sixth Lombardi Trophy all the sweeter.

  10. AES* says:

Someone posted that Eric Branch chose Alex Smith as his MVP at the mid-way point.

I brought up these two (Iupati/Davis) yesterday as other players who I felt were in the conversation.
Nice to see them receive some national recognition.

I remember when they were both drafted in the first round. My good buddy, a Bills fan, was so angry when they drafted Spiller (basically the only posisition they didn’t suck at already), he pointed to our first round and said “Now that’s how you draft!”.
The improvement in our o-line is the single most important reason we’ve gone from doormat to league power (even more than getting Harbaugh).

Let’s see who the coaches and players select at year’s end. PFW’s credibility has slipped over the last few years in my opinion.
