Whitner says Kaepernick will start against the Saints

Greg Roman said yesterday the 49ers have not decided which quarterback – Colin Kaepernick or Alex Smith – will start against the Saints on Sunday.

Thursday morning on the Dan Patrick show, Donte Whitner contrdicted Roman’s statement. Whitner told Mike Florio that Kaepernick will indeed start against the Saints.

The 49ers have not officially named Kaepernick the starter, but I would be shocked if he didn’t start in New Orleans this Sunday.

I can’t imagine that Coach is going to be to pleased with Whitner spilling the beans.

  2. Razoreater says:

I really doubt Mr. Whitner said what he did without clearance. As far as the lockeroom being lost…most unlikely.

This is turning into Raider drama, ” their is a dirty rat in the lockerroom”

I missed the interview. Did Whitner announce he will hold Jimmy Graham catch-less? Did he announce he won’t miss any tackles? Did he make any announcements about his own play? Donte likes to talk. Just hope he talks about his own job more than his coaches. I like how Frank Gore and Vernon Davis are answering the question: we will go with whatever decision the coach makes. They may know but they don’t need the limelight and story tied to their names. Whitner is a veteran and should know better. But that is not his style.

Please be open minded. I couldn’t resist that :)

Since you didn’t listen to the interview, you don’t know what else Whitner talked about. Whitner is one of the smartests players on the team, I doubt he would just go off and say something stupid. Give the guy the benefit of the doubt.

Nick rhymes with may more words than open minded. In fact, I can think of two right of hand that rhyme with Nick and no neither is Johnson.

You make some good comments when you stick to football, Nick. Don’t lower yourself to petty remarks about someone’s chosen blog name.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist either. Just like Donte Whitner couldn’t. :P GO NINERS!!!

Whitney just stated what we non-Smithers already know. Kap is the dude. Smith is the 2nd string QB. Wonder in the NFL will let Alex wear an SF Giants hat on the sidelines?

I wouldn’t be shocked but it’s a smart move to start CK, in my opinion.

I feel sad that AS lost his job. But the guy just cant seem to find the open man down the field. sometimes the guys are wide open. It takes a lot of work by the couches and player to make a play work. And AS is to scared to look down field. It’s sad that he cant see that and try to let the ball go. If he gets a little pass rush Its over. he cant throw on the run. he never looks down field under a good pass rush. If u look at kap even when the rush was on him he kept his eyes down field. And even made some good passes when the D was on him. If he plays like that he will take us to the SB. I think the team know who should be the starter. Thats why even guys kike VD that had AS back for years are now calling for Kap. the best player should play. and I feel that the team can see that Kap has done more in practice to lead this team. And just think how good the kid is if he can unseat AS even though the guys playing the best of his life. thats how good this kid is. I think JH knows he can not keep that kind of tools on the side lines. And I think this kid is the next big thing. he will be the best QB next year. He has more tools then any other QB. The east coast guys will hate to hear that now they have to go out west. But I have a eye at seeing a good QB. And I have never seen what this kid has done in 1 start. The way he looks in the game is like he has things under his control. He got a little cheesy in the second half but. I like that even then he still got things done. And thats hard to do. Not get to out of control. And he did that just fine Niner fans u heard it here Kap will be the best Qb the nfl has ever seen. his tool are there and he has the couch to bring them out!
