SAN FRANCISCO — This is the live blog for the pregame of the 49ers Week 17 game against the Arizona Cardinals. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.
Justin Smith is inactive. Vernon Davis and A.J. Jenkins are active. The rest of the 49ers inactives are Scott Tolzien, Trenton Robinson, Jewel Hampton, Will Tukuafu, Joe Looney, and Eric Bakhtiari. Tony Jerod-Eddie, No.63, is active and will backup Ricky Jean Francois and Ray McDonald. Ian Williams is active and will back up Isaac Sopoaga.
The Cardinals inactives are WR LaRon Byrd, QB John Skelton, FB Anthony Shermam, G Mike Gibson, T Nate Potter, WR Early Doucet and DE Ronald Talley. D’Anthony Batiste will start for Potter and Jim Dray will start for Sherman.
12:08 David Akers just made a 54-yard field goal on the north goalpost from the left hash. Now he just hit one from the right hash.
12:09 Akers can’t miss. He just made a 53-yard field goal from the right hash.
12:10 Ok, he can miss. He just hooked a 55-yard field goal wide right.
12:10 Next, he misses a 55-yard field goal way short and way left.
12:10 Next, he misses a 55-yard field goal off the left upright. The kick was long enough, but now he’s missed three field goals in a row.
12:14 Akers just snuck a 53-yard field goal over the south crossbar.
12:15 Now he misses a 55-yard field from the left hash short and wide right.
12:19 The 49ers started the Seahawks game with a play action deep pass to Mario Manningham. Everyone is expecting the 49ers to get back to their running game early against the Cardinals. The 49ers like to do the opposite of what everyone expects. Knowing the 49ers as well as you do, do you expect them to start this game with another play action deep pass, this time to A.J. Jenkins?
12:23 Vernon Davis is suited up and warming up on the field. He’s wearing big headphones, running around the field and catching passes.
12:26 A lot of rookie wide receivers are having big days. Rueben Randle has 4 catches for 58 yards and 2 TDs, Alshon Jeffery has 4 catches for 76 yards, Marvin Jones has 5 catches for 45 yards and a TD, Justin Blackmon has 5 catches for 79 yards and a TD.
12:37 It looks like Vernon Davis will play. He’s wearing his helmet and he’s catching deep passes with the rest of the receivers and defensive backs.
12:46 Do you think the 49ers should play Vernon Davis in this game? There’s a risk he’ll sustain another concussion and miss time in the playoffs. Is it worth the risk to play him today?
1:08 The Bears just beat the Lions 26-24. That means the Giants will miss the playoffs. It also means if the Packers beat the Vikings and the 49ers beat the Cardinals, the 49ers will play the Bears at home next Sunday in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
1:11 Remember, if the Niners win and the Vikings beat the Packers, the Niners bet the No.2 seed and a first round Bye.

Get Peter Fournier some garlic fries.
if tom gamble leaves do you see the team promoting from within to replace him?
Damn! Early Doucet inactive. I was hoping to see Goldson rock his world again.
Holy crap – the Titans just went nuts in the football game no one cares about.
Let’s go 9ers everday all day!!!
Holy crap – Andrew Luck.
Lets go Niners. Lets do this!!!!!
Prime – We need a good game today, some mojo for playoffs!
What’s on your beverage menu today, cold brews?
I bought some Rogue “Dead Guy Ale.” Good stuff.
Go Niners! Go Vikes!
LOL, thanks Grant:
12:09 Akers can’t miss. He just made a 53-yard field goal from the right hash.

I would sit VD and see what you’ve got in Celek.
Lets go Vikings!!!!
Grant,
The 9ers should stick with what works, grind them into the ground.
I would rest Davis and save him for the play offs.
Go 49ers!!!!!!!!!!
Giants are done!
MM16 – That’s good news for us!
yep! I like it!
Not to be a negative nellie about it but I’d feel better about them being eliminated if they hadn’t kicked our arses during the season.
Coffee – Did you want revenge?
I wanted to show that we were only a muffed punt away from the SB, coming out and beating them would have proven that to me but instead they handed us our arses.
It’s nice to beat big AFC teams if its the super bowl but if we cant beat the NFC teams to get there then it’s moot.
With the Giants out of the playoffs, it comes down to the Packers and the Niners. I don’t think the Falcons can do it.
Go Vikings!
I know its practically treason to say this, and i will be sure to shower after, but i wouldnt ignore the seahawks just yet!
Ugh..i feel nautious!
