SAN FRANCISCO — This is the live blog for the third quarter of the 49ers Week 17 game against the Arizona Cardinals. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.
2:54 The 49ers deferred possession in the first half, so they’ll receive to start the second half.
2:55 Feely boots the kickoff out of the end zone. The 49ers start at their 20 yard line.
2:56 Gore runs around the left end and gains one yard.
2:56 Kaepernick lines up in the pistol, play fakes and fires a pass to Moss for a 20-yard gain.
2:57 Kaepernick misses Davis on a corner route. Davis was open. Second and 10.
2:58 From the Diamond formation, Gore runs up the middle for two yards. It’s time for James to take his carries in this game.
2:59 Kaepernick completes a short pass to Crabtree. Crabtree avoids the first guy and gains 28 yards. First and 10 at the AZ 29.
2:59 Kaepernick throws a perfect pass to a well-covered Walker, but he drops it. Second and 10.
3:01 Gore runs behind Anthony Davis for three yards. Third and seven.
3:01 Kaepernick fires a pass to Randy Moss and he never turns his head. David Akers is on the field to try a 44-yard field goal, and he’s already getting booed.
3:02 He pushes the kick left again, but he sneaks it through the uprights. 10-6 Niners with 11:07 left in the third quarter.
3:06 Stephens-Howling returns the kickoff to the AZ 26.
3:08 Hoyer play fakes and Jean Francois sacks him. Loss of nine. There is the 49ers pass rush.
3:09 Next play, Brooks sacks Hoyer. Loss of nine again.
3:09 Powell runs a draw and Willis tackles him for no gain. The Cards will punt from their end zone.
3:10 Ginn returns the punt 28 yards to the AZ 38 yard line.
3:13 James bounces his run around the left end and gains two yards.
3:14 Kaepernick fires downfield to his second option and takes a hit. Walker catches it for a 27-yard gain. First and goal at the nine.
3:15 James runs around the right end and gains nothing.
3:15 Bruce Miller runs up the middle for two yards. Third and goal from the seven.
3:16 Kaepernick throws it to Crabtree in the left flat. Peterson jumps for the pass but can’t touch it. Crabtree catches it and walks into the end zone. Crabtree owns Peterson. Akers makes the field goal and takes a hit. 17-6 Niners with 5:58 left in the third quarter. It feels like the Cardinals have no fight left.
3:19 Stephens-Howling returns the kickoff to the AZ 22.
3:20 Hoyer tries to throw a slant to Floyd, but the tight end tips it and it’s incomplete.
3:21 Floyd lines up on the right side this time, runs another slant and catches this one for a gain of nine. Culliver was beaten. Third and 1 at the AZ 31.
3:21 Hoyer completes a 10-yard pass to King, but the Cards are flagged for illegal shift. Third and six.
3:22 Hoyer throws over the head of a wide open Roberts. Incomplete. That should have been a first down. The Cardinals will punt.
3:23 Ginn makes a fair catch at the SF 28.
3:25 On first down, Kaepernick completes an eight-yard pass to Moss on the left sideline.
3:26 Gore squirts through the line and gains seven yards. First and 10 at the SF 43.
3:27 This time Gore runs to the right and gains nine yards. The Cardinals defense looks like it has given up.
3:28 Next play, Gore runs up the middle and gains eight yards for a first down. First and 10 at the 40.
3:28 James runs around the left end and loses a yard.
3:29 Kaepernick throws it to Crabtree and Greg Toler slaps the ball out of his hands. Third and 11 at the AZ 41. That looked like a fumble.
3:30 Whisenhunt’s telling Crabtree on the sideline he fumbled. Crabtree’s laughing.
3:31 Kaepernick checks down to Gore, who gains five yards. fourth and six. Akers would have to hit a 54-yard field goal. That’s not happening, so the offense will go for it.
3:32 No one covers Crabtree, so Kaepernick hits him for an easy gain of 14 yards. First and 10 at the AZ 22.

Hate to say it but is it just me that sees that Gore is really winding down? Not just for the season but I mean overall. I just saw two plays on that last drive that a younger Gore would’ve bounced to the outside. There was absolutely no one there. Gore ran right into a filled lane twice. It looks like he doesn’t have any legs.
Gore is old- and he is doing his annual disappearing act as the niners near the playoffs.
Luckily we have a stud back in Lamicheal James- but for some reason- he cant get a carry

Team is playing a typically Harbaugh game after 1rs quarter: good defense and relatively safe offense.
Usually they would win with a couple TDs and lots of FGs.
Only problem is that Akers is not reliable anymore.
Otherwise this game would be much easier.
Its high time for Aldon to take this game over on the defensive side

We need to draft an every down back. Gore wears down way to quickly and either doesn’t have the vision he used to or lost the speed to take advantage of the holes that are there.

Definately dropped the ball on Jenkins… he is slight framed receiver who needs development. If we were looking for a developmental project we should have gone with Hill from from GT, at least then it would have made sense.
