FOXBORO, Ma. — This is the live blog for the third quarter of the 49ers Week 15 game against the New England Patriots. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.
7:26 James returns the kickoff to the 49ers 30 yard line.
7:28 On third and 15, Kaepernick completes a screen to Gore who picks up 26 yards.
7:31 Roman calls a play action shot to Moss in the end zone. He was double covered, but Kaepernick threw it anyway. It was easily intercepted in the end zone by McCourty. Bad decision by Kaepernick.
7:33 First play, Brady completes a deep pass down the right sideline to Lloyd for 29 yards. Culliver never tuned his head.
7:36 Ridley runs up the middle and fumbles for the second time in the game. Goldson returns it to the Pats 3 yard line.
7:36 Kaepernick fumbles the snap – his fourth fumble of the game – Gore picks it up and runs for a touchdown. Gillette Stadium is silent. 24-3 49ers.
7:40 Brady throws deep down the middle for Hernandez, and Goldson is flagged 15 for hitting a defenseless receiver. He hit Hernandez helmet-to-helmet, no question.
7:42 Next play, Brady throws a screen to Hernadez which goes through the tight ends hands. Aldon Smith intercepts the pass. 49ers ball at Patriots’ 27 yard line.
7:43 First play, Kaepernick throws a 27-yard bullet to Crabtree down the middle of the field. Touchdown. 31 to 3, and it shouldn’t even be that close.
7:51 Brady marches the Patriots down the 49ers’ 22 yard line over 9 plays, and then throws a TD pass to Lloyd, but it’s called back due to an illegal shift.
7:53 On third and nine from the 49ers 21, Woodhead runs up the middle for 15 yards. Next play, he runs into the end zone for a 6-yard TD. 31-10 49ers with 6 minutes left in the third quarter.
7:57 The Patriots do not go for the onside kick. Gostkowski kicks it through the back of the end zone.
7:59 Roman goes conservative and the 49ers go four-and-out. James gained 23 yards on a well-blocked sweep to the left. Then, Roman called two more runs which went nowhere, and on third and ten Kaepernick sailed a pass incomplete. Lee punts. Patriots ball at their 14 yard line.
8:07 Brady moves the Patriots down to the 49ers’ 3 yard line with a 47-yard pass to someone named Michael Hoomanawanui. At the end of the third quarter, the Patriots face fourth and goal from the one yard line.
