49ers @ Seahawks live blog: Fourth quarter

SEATTLE, Wa., — This is the live blog for the fourth quarter of the 49ers Week 16 game against the Seahawks. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

7:56 Kaepernick rolls right and throws across his body to Moss in the back of the end zone. Richard Sherman easily steps in front of the pass and picks it off. The Seahawks will start at their 20.

7:57 Lynch gains nothing on first down.

7:58 Lynch gains nine yards on second down. Third and one at the 29.

7:59 Lynch runs up the middle for a yard and a first down.

7:59 Lynch runs right and gains nine yards. Turbin subs in for him.

8:00 Turbin runs left, blows through the line of scrimmage and gains 24 yards.

8:01 On first and 10 from the SF 37, Turbin gains four yards.

8:02 Lynch runs up the middle for one yard. Third and five.

8:02 Wilson escapes another sack and hits a wide open Golden Tate for 21 yards. First and 10 at the 11.

8:03 Lynch runs left and gains three yards, and a fight breaks out. The refs throw a flag and pick it up. No foul. Second and seven from the eight.

8:05 Lynch gains two yards up the middle. Third and five from the six. Do you think the Seahawks will throw? I do.

8:05 They throw. Wilson rolls left and hits Tate in the end zone, Brown knocks the pass away, but he’s flagged for holding. First and goal at the three.

8:06 Bowman tackles Lynch for a three-yard loss on first and goal.

8:07 Wilson hits Baldwin in the slot on for an easy touchdown. 42-6 Seahawks. They want to score 50. If they score another touchdown, do you think they’ll go for the two-point conversion?

8:11 James fumbles the kickoff in the end zone. Walker recovers at the six yard line and runs it to the SF 10.

8:13 James gains four yards around the left side, and after the play Bruce Irvin is flagged for unnecessary roughness. First and 10 at the 29.

8:18 Kaepernick completes a pass to James underneath for seven yards and first down.

8:18 On first and 10 from the 24, Kaepernick scrambles for six yards.

8:19 As he takes a hit, Kaepernick hits James on the left sideline for seven yards and a first down. First and 10 at the 11.

Two minute warning.

8:25 From the pistol, Kaepernick hands off to Dixon who gains two yards.

8:26 Anthony Davis shoves Lane twice after the play when he wasn’t looking. Davis is flagged 15 yards.

8:27 On fourth and 17 from the 18 yard line, Kaepernick steps up in the pocket and throws a TD to Walker. 42-13 Seahawks with 1:40 left in the game.

8:30 Do you expect Carroll to run out the clock or try to score another TD?

8:30 Matt Flynn has replaced Wilson at QB.

8:31 Flynn takes a knee. All eyes on Harbaugh and Carroll’s postgame handshake.

  1. Big niner says:

    first

  2. Big niner says:

now all is well. WE WILL WIN THIS, lol

  3. Ribico says:

Good. Only one more quarter of this? Please’ no more injuries.

    • msclemons67 says:

Well Rib, should we drown our sorrows in Lagunitas or a fine Napa wine?

This sucks so much. I hate the Sea Bastards.

  4. Me says:

Time to play Smith, and the rest of the backups before more starters are hurt.

  5. BarNone says:

Seattle: 9-10 on 3rd down. lol!

  6. MontanaMan16 says:

Kap hesitated on Crabs! Needed to throw that!

  7. Ribico says:

Perfect. No meltdown is complete without a pick in the end zone.

  8. angusinCanada says:

Good grief. There might be some Alex Smith mop-up duty tonight. Kaep has played very, very poorly.

  9. michael says:

    Goodnight Merry Christmas everyone.

  10. fesnyc says:

NOW Kaep will learn from it. probably needs to get chewed out by coaches for it to stick.

  11. Detroit9er says:

and the starters are still in.. stupid

  12. Nairaj says:

we just lost the number 2 seed

  13. Allan says:

This game is even worse than the blowout agains the giants.

  14. 23jordan/ says:

bad throw Kap. Horrible throw across your body.

  15. Josh says:

Wilson is to Kaepernick as Montana is to Marino.

  16. Fansince 77 says:

This is by far the worse game of the year. Worse then the Giants loss. The Niners were in it for at least a quarter.
You can’t really blame the D. They played 92 snaps.
The Offense continues to be a work in progress. KAP makes some great throws, and then makes rookie mistakes. This is not to hate on him to say Smith would do better. It’s the facts.
Niners are getting the ass handed to them and it is not pretty.

    • Big Suede says:

Really? Smith made three interceptions in the giants team that is likely not going to even make the playoffs this year- and it was at home.

      • angusinCanada says:

This is a far worse performance, on many levels. Get a grip.

      • fesnyc says:

this is worse by far, but the defense has given up multiple LONG drives by Seattle – totally getting manhandled and outfoxed. Kaep is playing poorly too. But in the NYG game, the NYG had a number of short fields, so the defense wasnt as much to blame. Seattle is just driving at will on us.

      • Fansince 77 says:

I didn’t say KAP play bad. I’m saying that the team is playing bad and the offense looks horrible. At least in the Giants game they looked good for a quarter.

The Giants — at the time — were a playoff team. Oh yeah — the beat the crap out of the Packers too.

The game by far is way worse.
KAP double clutched two passes, is not accurate at all. Granted he’s down two receivers. But does not look like an upgrade tonight.

    • msclemons67 says:

I would definitely rate this with the Giants game. Just a horrible game.

      • angusinCanada says:

What tastes better, dog Sh#*, or cat sh#@? I think the answer doesn’t really matter.

      • msclemons67 says:

Yep Angus. Just a bad taste. I think this one might have been worse though – the defense didn’t even get off the plane.

    • Rusty-in-SoCal says:

A work in progress? I didn’t see anything that looked like progress. Outplayed, outcoached, and out-QB’d, by a long shot. I don’t know how much Cowboy could have helped, but this was embarrassing and nauseating at the same time.

  17. Greg says:

Well this is officially the worst game of Kaepernick’s young tenure. The game was already over, but this is just plain embarrassing now. I expect to soon see the score as 42-6. We all know Carroll loves to run it up.

  18. Big niner says:

RJF is no JS, that’s for sure

  19. Big Suede says:

This may be a good loss, there will be a ton to learn from and now the niners backs are to the wall. They definately wont have to ever worry about freddy p soft. Every game from here on out is must win.

Only downside is that Roman will probably be ignored for head coaching gigs again. It is time he moves on.

  20. fesnyc says:

now the D seems to have given up, or is just demoralized

  21. 23jordan/ says:

Seattle owned us tonight. Plain and simple. We got outhit and outplayed in every aspect of this game.

  22. tkamB says:

This team always accuses others of quitting they better get their sh*t together and get a stop.

  23. Allan says:

The Niners defense is based on stopping the run and then make the opposing QB throw agains a good cover.

But today we can’t remotely stop the run so Russel is picking us apart mostly throwing to wide open or single covered recevivers.

  24. Fourth & Alex says:

I think we’re seeing Aldon isn’t as badass as we once thought. Since Justin came out of the Patiots game Aldon has been a non-factor.

    • MontanaMan16 says:

If you didn’t know those 2 work hand in hand, I’m not sure what to tell you!

      • fesnyc says:

really excellent testimony to the fact that Justin Smith should have a good shot at NFL Defensive Player of Year, even tho he wont get it

  25. 23jordan/ says:

Defense can’t even get a stop. can’t even get off the field. Unreal.

  26. Allan says:

They are panicking and blitzing all the time and Russel is having a day with short screen passes.

That’s all because we can’t stop the run

  27. AbeFroman says:

I’m beginning to think the elder Mr. Cohn may be right about Greg Roman…

  28. NinerNation says:

Pete Carroll wants to drop 50 on Harbs tonight. No taking the foot off the peddle from the Seachickens…..

    • Rusty-in-SoCal says:

That’s exactly what guys here have been screaming for from our coaches, so I don’t see how we can complain.
Foot off the pedal? Sheesh…we couldn’t even find the damn pedal tonight.

      • NinerNation says:

I don’t think i’ve read anybody complaining about Pete doing that, most are just disgusted by the performance & lack of effort from our whole team.

  29. Allan says:

    Phanton call.

  30. Adam707 says:

Worst quarter backing game in idk how long. Kaep looked absolutely lost all game. Didn’t help that the defense was pathetic. Fs all around for grades today

    • NinerNation says:

Agree. Seachickens are hungry & playing like this is their super bowl.

    • 23jordan/ says:

      Adam707,

Just think back to the Giants game this year. Seattle played lights out on all 3 phases. Down 28-6 and driving in the 3rd quarter, Manningham gets hurt and fumbles on their 30. It was all bad after that. Our defense has not gotten off of the field all night. They’ve given up 35 points. Offense couldn’t win this game regardless. Defense can’t get a stop.

      • Adam707 says:

Kaep played worse tonight than Alex did vs nYg. Kaep played HORRIBLE. First three redzons trips calculated in 3 points. He had many opportunities to make plays and score but failed too. No way around it. Guy played pitiful. That being said the defense was equally awful. We had no chance to win today. Seahawks wanted it more. Niners had no heart.

      • Rusty-in-SoCal says:

Agree, Adam. He looked confused and lost coming off the field several times to me.
Everybody has bad games, but man, he sure picked a bad game, and a bad time of year to blow it.

      • NinerNation says:

        Adam707,

The difference is this was a road game and crowd noise was a serious issue as well. The team couldn’t even hear Kap at times.

  31. Mr. Everything says:

    Referees are nice

  32. MontanaMan16 says:

A facemask on the O and its called on the D. I’m going to bed!

  33. Mr. Everything says:

    Referees are nice

  34. Nairaj says:

    I don’t blame the defense.

I blame the offense and the QB running it

  35. Ribico says:

Empty the bench. We’d still have to play our WR starters. :/

  36. 23jordan/ says:

I hope they continue to keep scoring. We need this! We have to grind from now on. Can’t lose a quarter, let alone a game.

  37. Big niner says:

Remember the 94′ superbowl when we lost to Philly bad at home? That was a wake up call. This might as well be the same.

    • fesnyc says:

yup. happened in some of the other runs as well. (i thot the philly debacle was the 80s but defer to anyone with a better memory or a desire to search for the info!)

    • NinerNation says:

That was a midseason loss i believe, this is worse because its a divisional loss down the stretch. Plus all these injuries towards the end of the regular season are making things worse.

  38. bayareafanatic says:

Our defense is pathetic. Harbaugh you better come unglued

  39. fesnyc says:

well i was wrong about this game. i thot it would be a letdown game, i convince myself that Seattle hadnt improved as much as they have.

grades: F’s all around. LaMichael James looks ok as KR. Andy Lee was good as usual. Gore not part of the game plan. But everyone else pretty much got embarrassed. Freddie P. Soft, please stay in Seattle

  40. Mr. Everything says:

    Grant

    Definitely

  41. tkamB says:

Can we take any positives away from this game? I’m having trouble finding a silver lining

  42. Nairaj says:

this is a game roman couldn’t help mask CK weakness.

CK is raw and needs a system to be successful.

He his not ready to lead this team by himself.

    • Allan says:

So any of our QBs need a system to mask their weakness?

      Like….any QB?

      • msclemons67 says:

Well, the QB needs to learn how to tackle and cover wide receivers.

The strength of this team is the defense. When the D doesn’t show up, like tonight, the team is hosed. Doesn’t matter which bum is playing QB.

  43. Crab15 says:

Kap sucked tonight……Better now than in playoffs.

    • Rusty-in-SoCal says:

You think it’s either/or? My impression is that teams that play badly now tend to disappear pretty quickly in the playoffs. Dammit!

  44. Fourth & Alex says:

Man I hope we play the Hawks again in the postseason, at home of course.

  45. Big niner says:

lol, just like the rest of the night

  46. Greg says:

Remember when we had a run defense? Seattle well on its way to getting 200 on the ground. I knew Justin Smith helped Aldon get many of those sacks, but are really this bad without him?

  47. Sean in Canada says:

Kaep definitely looked indecisive tonight. Train wreck of a game all around.

    • msclemons67 says:

Just a total embarrassment. I don’t remember a game this bad since Singletary was coaching.

    • 23jordan/ says:

Yes he did. A game to learn from. Now he has to get this film and get a good look at it. Seattle never took their foot off of the gas. Hope JH sees that. I like what Carrol is doing to us. It’s exactly what we need. It’s what Kap needs.

      • Sean in Canada says:

Tough to watch but at least they still hold the division title destiny in their hands and the Vikes winning at home isn’t unthinkable.

  48. 23jordan/ says:

Minnesota will beat the Packers and we will still get the 2 seed.

  49. RandomFan53 says:

And the worst part about this outside of playoff implications is that this will severely inflate Seahawks fans’ collective ego…

  50. oldcoach says:

Holy crap Kap played a total stinker tonight. I believe he is our starter going foreward. I believe he is certainly the better QB between he and Smith but i also believe that Smith has’nt had nearly as bad a game as this in the last 2 yrs.

    • Allan says:

This year’s game against the Giants was as bad as this one.

Not that it gives us any confort.

    • msclemons67 says:

Have to agree. Kaep looked almost as bad as Smith tonight.

The 49ers will need a lot better performance from the QB and defense if they want to do well in the playoffs.

      • NinerNation says:

The tempo of the offense has been bad. No rhythm for most of the night.
The defense has really sucked from the jump. ugly ugly game all around….

    • Big Suede says:

Alex Smith in the giants game= 0 tds, 3 int. 4 sacks, 200 yards rating of 43.1

      Kap- 1 td, 1 int. 1 sack 244 yards rating of 72.

  51. Allan says:

I have high hopes for LaMichael James and Kendall Hunter in the future.

  52. loony says:

I’m sick and tired of seeing a lack of coordination between offense and defense is not even mentionable I understand smith is out but this makes no sense they beat us on man to man they beat us on zone it’s sad to say I predicted this ,the way we’ve been playing I said “if our offense doesn’t show we’re hit because they have strong defense like us” and if now our defense can’t stop their offense wtf they are 9/8 not to mention the running wow. Offense is not going to win playoffs like this coordination is horrible, they are throwing when they should run and running when they should be throwing, sorry to say if Colin doesn’t use this and last game as his playoff experience its like I said before he is our future but its unfair to the fans that we have to use our so long awaited season that we knew we could finally have our year to start giving Colin room to grow and most like giving up this seasons championship so he can get that experience to possibly win next year. In the playoffs just throw in Alex n hope we take it all the way. I’m sad as a 49er fan to see us doing so bad knowing we are so good. If we don’t get no.2 no bye week n no home field which means this what we are seeing especially, seeing Seattle again.

    • 23jordan/ says:

      Looney,

What the heck are you assuming Alex could do that Kap hasn’t done. are you insinuating that Smith wins this game. Please don’t embarras yourself. Our defense got drug up and down the field all night. We couldn’t have won this game with Montana. Kap is not the problem. we have to find a way to regroup defensively and somehow try and get healthy as a team.

rattle wanted and needed this game a lot more than we did. This was going to be a tough battle and everyone on this blog knows that. We beat Arizona next week and hope Peterson breaks the rushing record against Green Bay. Minnesota is playing for a playoff spot. They beat Houston down today. I still like our chances at that number 2 seed.

      • angusinCanada says:

Kaep played brutal, brutal football. Who cares what Alex could have done? He isn’t the starter, and he didn’t play, so we’ll never know, and it doesn’t matter.

      • Loony says:

When I said smith is out I meant Justin but at the end I said something about kap because the truth is the truth bro,he is good no doubt better than Alex yes, more consistent no and needs experience the problem is really bad timing to start getting that as turnovers come defense has to step up and the more fu%* ups by offense the more defense has less rest, plus yea u rite defense is sluggish but offense not any better real bad coordination real bad the team as a whole

      • Prime Time says:

#2 or #3 seed won’t matter if we play like this . Since MIA we look out of sorts in all 3 phases. Now it’s the game plans by this coaching staff that looks weak with each game.
Say what you want about the future, the switch is haunting us.

      • Jack Hammer says:

Where were you last Sunday after the win Prime? Oh yeah, you turtles like a little bitch. Get the f out…

      • 23jordan/ says:

        Prime,

Haunted by a QB switch? You are a true Jackass. Montana would’ve lost that game. We’ve been looking for you. Your timing is perfect. Kap was 19–36 for 244. 1 TD, 1 pick. 40 yards rushing. He killed us. Lol.

      • 23jordan/ says:

        Augusin,

19-36 244 yards 1 TD/ 1 int. Yeah that was brutal. That’s a little Smither coming out of you bro. Go ahead and admit it.

      • MontanaMan16 says:

Bragging about garbage time stats. Wow! Where was the play when Seattle’s defense wasn’t in let down mode?

  53. NinerNation says:

After the big win in Foxboro the 49ers walked into a buzz saw tonight. The Seacocks are amped up. Should have seen this coming….

  54. Big niner says:

    Is that JH calling plays?

  55. Allan says:

A.J. Jenkins will shine through the playoffs and will show Grant wrong once again.

  56. domingo says:

Seattle flat out kicked our butt’s tonight. Kudo’s to them. That being said, F___k you Pete Carroll. Look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks!

  57. NinerNation says:

Delanie Walker drops a pass at the 2 yrd line. *shocking*

  58. Allan says:

Run four times and finish this awful game.

At least no more injuries, please.

  59. oldcoach says:

Allan the NYG game was close but this game meant so much more

  60. Randy says:

I would not want to be the team to face the Seahawks first in the playoffs…

    • NinerNation says:

I do. At our house for revenge i would not mind. Pete the poodle ain’t beating Harbs twice in the same year.

  61. Big niner says:

if that’s the case, then we’ll face RG3 or Romo? oh boy another running QB…fun

    • Jack Hammer says:

49ers win next Sunday and they have either the 2 or 3 seed.

Lucky for them the Vikings v Packers game means something to Minnesota. Vikes win and they’re in, and 49ers could be #2 with win over Cards.

  62. loony says:

Here comes all the doubters. If u really thought the 49ers would show up u were fooling yourselves. When they dont have a must win situation they dont play well. I would also say these officials calls have been awful. Completely one sided from get go.

I know two things for sure. First, whatever defensive inadequacies the Niners had tonight were COMPLETELY due to the absence of Justin Smith.

Second, whatever offensive problems the team experienced had NOTHING to do with Colin Kaepernick. The “babay Jesus” can do no wrong.

And, if you believe those two assertions I have a bridge I would like to sell to you.
    Reply

I say: “Yeaaaa we only do well when we need to, look where that got the giants out of the playoffs, well we needed this one n “boom” we blew it. See not to sound haterissh, but if smith is hurt( justin) our defensive coordinator should make adjustments, that’s no.1; no.2 I’m sick of seeing this Colin supporters and Alex supporters ducking it out saying who’s better the fact is he’s fu*%ing up bench play Alex. The man is consistent and we don’t need experimentations when it’s win or go home, point blank period at leat we know the offense is going to be a little more quiet but no turnovers and steady moving and touchdowns that progress slower but it’s all good that gives defense time to rest and destroy now the flip team is unstable no rest fatigue and so on… Use Colin for next years start and mold him to be a starter. Mistake, cost big but shouldn’t be at our expense we are the fans and deserve the bowl this year. Then anger thing you have a different offense why are we running similar plays to when Alex is playing change it up, route , audibles if needed n take it long n set runs to back up what ur throws can’t finish not run and throw to finish off ur runs no sense. I don’t know I hope harb gota plan because I see things just getting harder possibly no rest week.”

    • 23jordan/ says:

      Looney,

Alex is HISTORY. I guess you didn’t get the news. Quit crying and turn the page. We don’t even bring his name up here nowadays. Where have you been?

    • Tyrant.com says:

Good God, go back to school and learn english

    • 23jordan/ says:

      Looney,

I’ve read this dribble 5 times and still can’t break the code. Misspell words sometimes but I use a cell phone at times. Take your time bro. You kinda got me with this post.

    • AES* says:

Sorry to burts your bubble, but that ship has sailed bud.
It’s embarrassing to even invoke AS’ name at this moment.
The entire team from top to bottom did not come out to play tonight.

One person (sorry, but especially AS) was not going to make a difference in this game.

  63. 23jordan/ says:

Delaney celebrated like he tied the game up.

  64. oldcoach says:

The real test for Kap is how will he follow up on his flop next week. It wo’nt matter that he played the worst game any 9er QB has played in 2 years if he plays well the next 2 weeks

    • Greg says:

He may play well the next two weeks. Then the third week will come and the team will come out flat and be outcoached. This is the pattern two good games, then one horrible game.

    • Nairaj says:

will you bet the house he will play lights out the next week and playoffs?

    • 23jordan/ says:

      Coach,

I think you need to look at the totality of the circumstances. I’d like you to take a look at the Giant game this year.

      1. We scored 3 points.
      2. Our QB threw 3 picks.
      3. We were at home.
      4. we were playing well at the time.
      5. We were healthy.

      This game.

      1. We’re playing Seattle on the road.
      2. We lose J’S last week.
      3.We lose VD and Manningham.
      4. We’re already down Hunter and Williams.
      5. We got into their red zone on several occasions and couldn’t get 6. We moved the ball well at times and couldn’t catch a breal on offense.

I’ve never blamed a loss on Smith with our defense playing like this. This was the worst defensive effort under JH. That’s what you should be saying.

  65. Jp says:

I can’t believe we can’t break this WWL cycle. Ridiculous!!!!!

  66. BarNone says:

    Matt Barrows ‏@mattbarrows

If this score holds, it’s the largest margin of defeat for the #49ers in the Harbaugh era.

  67. Ribico says:

Bright side. We kept them under 50.

    • msclemons67 says:

Umm – that isn’t really a bright side. I’m going to get some scotch. Like a 1.5 litre bottle.

At least we’ve already clinched a playoff spot, right?

  68. oldcoach says:

the real seattle nightmare just entered the game. Matt the salary cap killer Flynn. His salary will kill the seahawks the next couple of seasons

  69. 23jordan/ says:

Seattle 11/12 on third down and 4/4 in the red zone and some clown really actually tried to blame the QB. Our defense was never going to give us a chance to win this game.

  70. Big niner says:

    Ass whooping!!

  71. Loony says:

    F delaney

  72. oldcoach says:

Kap may have stunk the joint up tonight but he is our future go Kap!!!!

    • Jack Hammer says:

Agree. The D struggled from the outset as well. Hopefully they can find some things from this game to use going forward.

  73. RandomFan53 says:

So if the Niners do end up with the #2 seed, would their bye break the W-W-L/T cycle or would it be like the regular-season bye and not matter at all?

  74. fesnyc says:

NFL = Not For Long. think you’re great? guess again. you gotta bring it, you gotta be hungry, and you better be clever. thankfully for the Niners, what matters now is January and February. heal up, and move on…with a vengeance

  75. Nick says:

    Let the knee-jerk reactions begin

  76. Ribico says:

Its pushing midnight here on the east coast. Grant, don’t be offended if don’t wait up for the grades. ‘Night Faithful.

  77. NinerNation says:

ESPN and shows like First Take are gonna have a field day with this loss. Seachicken fans are gonna be gloating for weeks.

    • Rusty-in-SoCal says:

We’d be gloating BIG TIME if we’d have beat them like a drum, and you know it. Be fair: Any gloating from them was earned by the way the Hawks played. We can only hope the Hawks team feels that way, too. Because if they’re gloating, it means their focus is on the rear view mirror. I’m hoping our guys are focused on next week. Lose to the Cards? Seemed impossible this afternoon. Now? Not so impossible.

  78. east coast niner fan says:

kap sucked tonight anyone who says other wise didnt watch the game. couldnt hit any throw tonight with any regularity. kap was all around bad, yall can blame the d fence but look are O has to score some points. Hell they have to get a first down and keep the chains moving , bad game plan but Kap executed it pretty badly tonight , the giants game was bad but this was a complete show up from wilson to kap and kap took a nose dive. Hope he gets better cause if we gotta see them again were done

    • Nick says:

      Primate?

    • fesnyc says:

yes, Kaep played poorly, or was stymied. but the D couldnt buy a stop from the getgo, whereas they actually played ok vs the NYG. as Costas said, the D has given up 70+ points since the 2nd half vs NE. worst performance by our D in at least 2 years.

      • Loony says:

That’s because of coaching bro that game 1st half we contained the beast aka man to man, then ruined it all by let the beast move aka zone certain teams man to man is better that’s the case with Brady cuz u can’t stop him from throwing but u can pressure him and d the target ant hit that interception with space like zone even with a blitz coming he has time to pick the puddles

      • Loony says:

The same goes for manning that’s Payton and thats the afc’s Super Bowl team mark my words so if we want to beat him when we get there we need that hard man to get an early containment.

  79. Adam707 says:

If I hear harbaugh say one compliment about Kaep or the defense I will lose my mind. Wake up call Jimmy

  80. oldcoach says:

I’ve read that the 9ers have designed the new stadium to be potentially as loud as seattle. I just hope after watching tonights game that 9er fans will make it happen

  81. Mr. Automatic says:

The loss is bad, to be sure. But for now I’m more concerned about the injuries to Justin, Vernon and Mario. Not looking good for us on offense come playoffs.

  82. Nick says:

    Grant

Don’t bother posting grades. Everybody gets an F.

  83. oldcoach says:

Grant when you do tonights grades break free from your dads influence. Give Kap a D but hold firm with the belief that over the long run he is still the 9ers future

  84. undercenter says:

CK sucked, offense sucked, defense sucked, special teams suck, coaching sucked. We got beat up out coached and out played once again, just like the Giants game. S**t happens.

    Same complaints:
    Penalities
    Droped passes
    Game management
    Play calling
    Turnovers

    • msclemons67 says:

This game was a black hole. It sucked so much that even light couldn’t escape. Worst game we’ve had since Singletary was here.

  85. NinerNation says:

I’ve just become the biggest Minnesota Viking fan ever (at least for one week).

  86. Loony says:

Regroup and get Kap back in his rhythm is our only hope. We need him to do what we all know he can n show why harb believes in him so much make us believe take us there. Play calling is I think a big reason for failure, the routes and passages they have planned are all at the wrong times, plus running omg it needs to be presented with the right switches too predictable, this is crazy. 1st down run, second run third attempt a throw with the pressure now , fourth down punt come on bro change this. Plus map needs to understand what is at steak hear he is our general get ready for these games they are going to be viscous we need better coordination the coaching staff playing with it and its costing us players. Defense stick to the man if you are or the zone if you are make your mind up ur confusing our squad and making it easy on an offense that can run n throw while they do if u zone use a blitz n pressure for the anticipation and interception if man to man we need the corners to step it up so we can do more on the ball and pay attention because they go long when given a chance. All these things fall on coaching staff they should know better.

  87. amp says:

    Pathetic!

  88. oldcoach says:

I sill believe in Kaps physical abilities but his total lack of game management skills worry the hell out of me. I still think Harbaugh may have rushed his acension

    • 23jordan/ says:

      Coach,

You are usually a lot sharper than his. That game was in Seattle. You’ve got the NOISE. he oldest stadium in football. Undereated at home. The coaching staff should’ve took more control with the play calling and took all those shifts out of the plan. Look how the 2nd half looked with the game management and clock management. Thay made the adjustment at the half. Eliminated the shifts.

      • domingo says:

It’s funny how every week the perspective on our team changes. The one consistency is how inconsistent the 49ers performance is every three weeks.

      • JDilla says:

Why does this sound like an alexcuse?

      • Txtree49er says:

        Cause it is….

      • Adam says:

        Kaeperscuses.

      • 23jordan/ says:

I love it. JDilla. We were never doing to beat Seattle with our defense looking like it was tonight. However, you and Textree need to know that Alex won’t be starting next week. Are you guts going to be okay. Most of the Smithers have all quit the blog. When are you guys leaving?

      • Txtree49er says:

Were did I say anything about Alex? Your fetish not mine….funny how you are not talking about our redzone performance this week…what was it?

CK had a bad game….you don’t need to make excuses…

      • Prime Time says:

        Exactly!

      • JDilla says:

is that your only comeback every week, bringing up alex not starting? haha bro harbaugh is all in with CK, obviously there is no going back. who are you trying to convince? I am merely pointing out the last time we played the seahawks, the same comment about crowd noise and such was brought up. don’t be scared of the truth.

  89. Washington9er says:

The 9ers seems to be front runners.
Defensive was not gang tackling. Aldon at times was jogging after Wilson.
Roman had no faith in the running. Put Kap in a difficult position throwing most downs.
Harbaugh’s staff was out coached tonight, very disappointing at this point of the season.

  90. east coast niner fan says:

yeah we got flat out whooped tonight, we need to be a little more creative with the calls to help Kap out we knew coming in it was going to be loud , make an adjustment . yeah the d couldnt get a stop but they also couldnt get any time to rest and thats been a prob before and we just playede 92 snaps the O needed to get it going for more than 3 plays .PLEASE THE O SUCKED THE MOST GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!

  91. The Grinch says:

    Kaepernick sucks….Aldon
Smith is overrated …J Haurbaugh is M Schottienhimer pt 2 goodnite…

    • pete4mtx says:

      Idiot..hawks fan…

      • The Grinch says:

No..Die hard Niner fan since 86.Just call it how I see it..This is not a SB team..I told all my boys last year Haurbaugh blew his best chance at a superbowl by letting KW go back out there after two shaky punt returns..Theyll never get back.

  92. Rick says:

As painful as it feels right now, this loss may not be a big deal if Minny can take down GB next week. I know we will beat the Cardinals so the division is in the bag. We need a little help from the Vikings to get the #2 seed. The Vikings will be playing to get into the playoffs and if AP has one of his monster games, you never know…..

  93. MontanaMan16 says:

Like I said before, over the AS thing. Ain’t nothing I can do about it. However, I think it’s still a huge mistake. Love Kap but he’s not there yet. If he thinks that’s bad, playoffs get worse. This year will be known as a year that coulda been!
Harbs wasn’t happy in that presser!

    • 23jordan/ says:

Alex would’ve destroyed Seattle tonight! Lol! It’s the Smither seeping out of you. You didn’t mention this last week after the New England game. I Wonder why?

      • MontanaMan16 says:

Because I knew we would beat NE no matter who the qb is. They suck!

      • 23jordan/ says:

        Montana,

Sure you did. I’m gonna try and see what I can do to get Alex in there next week. You with me? Lol.

      • MontanaMan16 says:

Rewatch the game jordo! Kap had the deer in the headlights look all night. Hesitated and second guessed everything! Ur problem is you hate Alex so bad you are blinded by the truth. Alex is best for this team right now but only a team fan can see that. That’s not you!

    • Deezybee says:

It’s a mistake 2 u montana cause its a loss.Alex is not a difference maker nor playmaker. And when Alex such as yourself realize this..Youll understand why hes not in

  94. J-Dog says:

I do not get this (our) team. We beat Brady in Foxboro and we go to Seattle and get blown out. GB is not going to lose next week. We all know this. I am just going to say it, we use to have a defense that looked like Seattle. The difference I saw was we do not have a shut down corner like they do. They were even without one of their starters. What the hell is going on with this team? No amount of egg nog and Makers Mark can make me feel better. The big backs give us issues: ML and SJ both! We have a huge weakness and it is in the pass game, Brady exposed that last week. Our O line did an ok job tonight, Kaep had time. We just have to man up and realize we are not getting a week off and hope VD and JS are coming back. I am so upset an disappointed regarding not even coming out after half focused and changing schemes or anything. Celek will have to step up as well as DW.

  95. AES* says:

Just need to flush this big stinker down the toilet where it belongs.
The whole team stunk from top to bottom.
Heck, even the waterboys looked a step too slow tonight.
Time to move on to next weeks game and wrap-up the division title.

I have a feeling that this game will be fogotten 3 weeks down the road.
And it wouldn’t surprise me if the C-squaks have a major let-down next as well.

Didn’t the majority of the posters here predict about a 11-5 or 10-6 record? We are still on course, no need to fret.
My biggest concerns at the moment are the health of VD, M.Manning, and Justin Smith.

    • NinerNation says:

I wonder how much game film of this loss Harbaugh is going to make the team watch. Some coaches just totally move on from stinkers but this was a division loss so he might critique it more.

    • msclemons67 says:

Justin Smith worries me the most. The D looks soft without the Cowboy.

    • Adam says:

“I have a feeling that this game will be fogotten 3 weeks down the road.”

Let’s hope the pattern doesn’t hold because if we have to play a wildcard team… that will be game two (after this one) and we know what happens in game number three this year.

You might be right either way, whatever happens in three weeks could eclipse this game! :P

  96. Loony says:

Minnesota is going to do it but that’s not the point depending on other teams is pathetic an insult to our name. Play calling sucks like I said before throwing when runs are needed and running when throws are needed. Plus the level of accomplishing even those tasks (which are predictable to say the least sit back and see how it goes every possession it’s the same 123 down) are terrible they performance was sloppy not confident that they were able. That let to turnovers and little time with the ball no rest defense and our defense assertion omg horrible the man to man with this team only when the formation is planted for throws and the zone when u see the run coming they have audibles I don’t understand.* wishing this was madden “I Would Let Them Have It”*

  97. The Grinch says:

Im telling you right now Haurbagh cant win the big games hes Shotty 2.0…

  98. Adam says:

Man this dropping every third game is freakin’ weird. I haven’t seen anything this embarrassing since the Sing days. Harbaugh’s going to have to go watch the tape.

But I don’t remember ever seeing a pattern like this. Win two, drop one.

I guess I can be thankful it’s not every other game.

Couple things stood out to me other than the “pattern”. Like I said a few weeks ago, Russell Wilson is the real deal. What I said a couple weeks ago was that if he had some weapons he’d be dangerous. Caroll has figured out how to use him with somewhat suspect receivers – big kudos there. What I see from this kid is that he keeps climbing. CK on the other hand is kind of all over the board. I can’t tell if he’s hit a plateau or there’s more – he has a few mediocre games, a couple barn burners and then a couple disasters.

Where their receivers excel is in the “hand-check” game (which it looks like refs don’t call on Seattle anymore.) So much offensive interference tonight it was ridiculous.

The other big thing is that Justin Smith is the heart of the defense, you lose him, you’re in trouble. I don’t know what it is but we were missing tackles all over the place, had bad angles on guys, and we couldn’t figure out how to break up being held on ever play by the Seattle O-line.

Our BIG problem is that we’re not peaking at the right time. I’m not sure we ever peaked at all this season, we’re basically bipolar. We win an average game then we’re real explosive the following week and then a complete meltdown in the third.

Vernon and Manningham out will hurt but we should beat Arizona. Let’s hope we get a little help and get the bye, we need it.

    • domingo says:

The 49er’s cannot string good games together. On any given Sunday we can beat any team but we are not consistent. Perhaps we are just not that good.

    • NinerNation says:

Crowd noise was a serious issue & there was zero rhythm from the offense tonight. Agree on Justin Smith being “the heart of the defense”, the D had no fire in their belly tonight and it showed. Injuries are a concern and are really testing are depth or lack thereof…

      • Adam says:

I have a feeling the TV crew was right (they kind of alluded to it) about the defense being worn out after the New England game. Way too many series in the tail end of that thing.

Yeah, the crowd noise there is notorious. I don’t know how you get out of that place without your ears ringing. Ridiculously loud.

The other thing I’m wondering now is what the identity of this team is. We’re primarily defense and run-game but the run game has been kind of back-seat for a bit now and the defense has proven that it can be gashed under the right conditions.

Dunno. Just more drama for the boys who do the power rankings I guess (and the nerds who play fantasy football.) :P

  99. domingo says:

I think we will beat Arizona and then smash our first round playoff opponent. After that?

  100. Big niner says:

I’m going to be mad if Sherman gets suspended this week instead of last friday. He was responsible for 14 points.

  101. shawnrhod says:

That was an @$$ whipping if i ever saw one.

  102. Mr. Everything says:

    Wow… Grant,

CK just put the smack down on your daddy!

    • Mr. Everything says:

Can’t wait to read Lowell’s column. He who has constantly crowed to bench Smith for Kaepernick, asked Kaep a silly, general question and Kaep made him look like a silly sensationalistic media goon. Love to see how this column turns out. Will Lowell stay true to his Kaepernicking or will he turn on the young gunner? How thick is that skin, Grant?

  103. Loony says:

Don’t they know if ur gonna zone ur corners have to be tight and the blitzing needs to be asserted with surgical precision but brutally tough not dead and man to man when it’s going long but again corners need to be tight if any lack in defense coaching staff should read n fix none of that just leaved out to die why don’t you fed up with play calls and decision from top to bottom we are wasting our talent that got put together to win football

  104. MontanaMan16 says:

With Justin down, the defense is obviously down. It’s then you need the O to step up and win a game for you. They fell flat on their face. Good job offense!

  105. Grumpy Guy says:

No Harbaugh team will ever win a game giving up nearly 180 yards rushing, or 11 conversions in 12 tries by the other team’s defense, or 42 points. This team and system is not built to win shootouts. We might score 40 or more ourselves when we dominate a team, and have balanced rushing and passing. Get away from that in a shootout, and we are going to lose. Add in ST ineptness, poor O-line play, not enough Gore, shaky QB play, and two receivers injured, and you have the makings of a Nightmare on Elm Street movie.

  106. sherman says:

    U mad bro?

  107. J. Jackson says:

Seattle just played awesome, physical football. Very impressive play on both sides of the line and their qb looked Superbowl worthy. And the 49ers were embarrasingly out coached at least, maybe more, than they were outplayed. Hats off to the Seattle play callers more than bagging on Harbaugh.
The defense had a very bad night. Some of the receivers couldn’t catch a pass if it was handed to them on a platter, and Kaep could not call audibles due to the incredible noise, which clearly rattled him, not to mention Seattle owned the Niners offfensive line. Add some inaccurate passes and a blocked “chip shot” field goal that was returned for a td and a fumble due to an injury to a receiver, and the whole game was just putrid. (Lamicheal James on returns the only notable exception with a decent night) Kaep could have had a Superbowl worthy performance (which he certainly did not) and the Niners would still have lost this one. Though the offense still scored, I believe, the same amount of points as with Smith in their earlier encouter this season.
The “12th man” was clearly demoralizing for the Niners tonight. The acoustics are truly an unfair advantage. Hope to see a rematch of this game in the playoffs for a best of three showdown and hope this is Kaeps one sub par game this season.
