49ers Week 16 grades: Offense

SEATTLE, Wa. – The Seahawks crushed the 49ers 42-13 Sunday night. Here are the grades for the offense.

Offensive line: F. Even though this group only gave up one sack, they gave up pressure the whole game. Kaepernick was running for his life and he took some big hits after throws. In the fourth quarter, Anthony Davis lost his cool and took two cheap shots on 190-pound cornerback Jeremy Lane, who had his back turned. The refs flagged Davis 15 yards for unnecessary roughness. After the game, Davis was asked why his was angry with Lane. “I wasn’t angry,” Davis said, “I was kicking his (expletive deleted) ass.” Davis was then asked why he was doing that. “Because it’s my (expletive deleted) job,” he replied, at which point Trent Baalke motioned him away.

Running backs: F. Frank Gore hardly got the ball in the first half but when he did, he didn’t do anything with it. After the second quarter he had five carries for 10 yards and one catch for zero yards. LaMichael James finished the game with four carries for 15 yards. Both players were complete non-factors on offense from the beginning of the game.

Wide receivers: F. Michael Crabtree beat Richard Sherman deep for a nice 35-yard catch when the game was over. If you take away that reception, Crabtree was thrown to eight times and he caught just three passes for 30 yards. Randy Moss was thrown to six times and he caught three passes for 44 yards. He did not fight for a pass in the end zone and he let a fourth quarter pass slide right threw his hands. Mario Manningham caught one pass for zero yards before he injured his knee and left the game. A.J. Jenkins did not play. If he has anything to contribute to the team, the 49ers need it from him now.

Tight ends: F. Vernon Davis caught one pass for 27 yards. He suffered a concussion and sat out most of the game. Delanie Walker had one catch for four yards in the first half. He caught a touchdown in the fourth quarter when the Seahawks were up by 36 points. Garrett Celek caught two passes in the second half.

We are now right back where we were at the end of last season. Crabtree is the only reliable receiver we have now. Shame we didn’t draft a wide receiver with are first pick.

    • Adam says:

I like what Baalke has done in the drafts with the exception of this position. So far he’s 0-2.

We need to find some receivers somewhere in this next one.

      • angusinCanada says:

I like what I’ve seen from Manningham when he’s been healthy. I love Crabs, I don’t think we’re so bad there. But yeah, time for the rookie to step up. He’s probably the only 1st rd receiver who hasn’t seen a lot of action….let alone any.

    • The Grinch says:

Haha…that was awesome…..Im really concerned about AJ Jenkinz..Meanwhile how the hell did Harb pass on Sherman and Baldwin yet AJ Jenkins is not even dressed for games????….Wow

  2. 23jordan/ says:

    Grant,

You must have been asking Davis those questions! Lol

  3. Adam707 says:

As the game progressed i found myself yelling at Kaep over and over for the same thing. Throwing at Sherman. The guy is a freak. Kaep throughout the game was testing him and it worked one time to Crab for 30 yards. He tested him 4 times in the endzone and was 0-4 with and int. In the future i believe we just avoid him completely. The fact that Harbaugh coached this guy and passed on him so many times in the 2011 draft shows Harbaugh isnt a good evaluator of talent outside of QB

    • The Grinch says:

Exactly how the hell did he miss on this guy…He looks like the best coerner in tbe league and we just paid stonehands Rodgers all kinds of money….SMH…

      • Adam707 says:

Makes no sense to me at all. If anyone should have known how good he was its Harbaugh. The guy is the definition of a shut down corner. Best man coverage CB in NFL hands down

      • 23jordan/ says:

It’s called Juice. The kind that gets you suspended. Clearly, whatever it is, it works because Sherman is not a rookie. He was in Seattle last year as well. Browner was too.

      • Adam707 says:

At worst it was Adderall. Thats not a steroid or
PED. Stupid to take yes but its not making him the player he is. I know hes not a rookie, he was drafted 2011. I said that

      • Grumpy Guy says:

Sherman and the other Seattle CBs are getting away with a much more physical style than anyone would have expected before this season. If the league decides to crack down on them, that could change quickly.

We need Trent and company to look very hard at the CB position this Spring, though.

      • Mr. Everything says:

        They’re all 6’1″+

And Adderall is not a nothing … That sh*t is just legal speed. Makes your mind process things much more clearly and decisively, gives you energy, reduces fatigue, and makes you more aggressive. One of my favorite substances to abuse, actually …

      • 23jordan/ says:

        Adam707,

Why the hell would he be taking it if it didn’t enhance his play. You gotta know what the word SPEED means when it is a drug? It’s make you speed up???

      • Adam707 says:

All im saying is i’ve taken Adderall before (for finals studying) and it yes it helps focus and gives you energy. But in my opinion taking it wouldnt make someone play better. I think its more of a mind trick.

      • 23jordan/ says:

        Adam707,

Apparently, Richard Sherman thinks the trick is working! Lol. he said He’s even gonna win the appeal. I guess it helps you with your confidence as well.

      • Adam707 says:

Well there are rumors the sample was “tampered with”. Like Braun in MLB last year

    • Fudgehammer says:

Adam, remember Fangio coached Sherman at Stanford and in the draft room, since he’s D-Coordinator, he probably had as big (if not bigger) say than Harbaugh on drafting him and he obviously didn’t advocate too hard. The kid is a great player, but obviously brought something to the party that Harbaugh/Fangio didn’t like. He’s a mouth, as his taunting of Tom Brady — and tonight, Harbaugh — clearly illustrates. Maybe they don’t want that kind of guy on the team. I know he was suspended at Stanford by Harbaugh at one point.

      • Che Cazzo Stai Dicendo? says:

Yes , a mouth, totally unlike Whittless, who was jawing away while he and his team were getting used like a toilet on national TV. Or Davis, “kicking ass” well after he and his mates had already been reamed like a new inmate at Folsom.

They’re “mouthy” if they’re opponents, “competitive” if they’re YOUR douchebags.

  4. Johneureka says:

We learned tonight the 49ers aren’t really that good. But then neither is Seattle. They have used architectural tricks in building their stadium to amplify the crowd noise and stop opposing teams from communicating.

Is that football? All the other teams will start copying Seattle as soon as they can.

  5. tkamB says:

I actually think the tight ends deserve like a C or C-. Now that I think of it they played pretty well even if Walker had a drop or two. Celek had a great catch and run and Vernon had a great catch as well. Maybe the C is the bright spot this week

  6. Rob says:

Grant had it right in pre-season. AJ Jenkins is a bust. He has played in two games all year and was a no-show in each. They had Ted Ginn in place of Jenkins yesterday. Ted Ginn??? The whole 2012 49er draft class, excepting perhaps LeMichael James, is going to go down as one of the worst ever. And suddenly things don’t look so bright in 49er fantasy land.

  7. Rob says:

And speaking of Jenkins, when is someone going to call Harbaugh and Baalke on this past draft, especially Jenkins. I don’t call a single question being raised in a a press conference about Jenkins, yet Harbaugh made such a big deal out of defending him during training camp.

  8. gr8lake says:

AJ Jenkins was not activated but Ginn was?
What could they have been thinking?
