49ers Week 17 grades: Quarterbacks

SAN FRANCISCO – The 49ers stomped the Cardinals 27-13. Here is the grade for the 49ers quarterbacks.

Quarterbacks: A. Colin Kaepernick was not good in the first quarter, but neither were the rest of the 49ers. He completed just one pass for five yards in the first quarter. He almost threw an interception, too.

From the second quarter on, Kaepernick played the best football of his life. He completed 15 of 24 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns – a 129 QB rating. He would have had three TD passes and an even higher QB rating if Delanie Walker hadn’t dropped a TD pass in the second half. When Kaepernick is on, as he was for three quarters today, he makes throws no one else in the NFL can make.

Alex Smith came in for two series in the fourth quarter when the game was all wrapped up. He attempted one pass and completed it for six yards. He also handed off two times and kneeled down a couple of times. They were some of the best hand offs and kneel downs you’ve ever seen.

  1. MontanaMan16 says:

That would be td catch for DW woulda been a helluva catch. The defender was holding his right arm till the last second! IMO

  2. drty49 says:

    +1, DW is improving

  3. BigP says:

“They were some of the best hand offs and kneel downs you’ve ever seen.”

    DS’s head just exploded.

  4. Josh says:

Don’t be a douche about Alex Smith….guy has done everything he’s been asked while everyone said he wasn’t good enough. Enough already, crap like that makes me not want to read all the good stuff you put up on your blog..

    • Crab15 says:

Josh – WHAT? Everyone said Alex wasn’t good enough? He was the #1 overall pick because the majority of NFL executives thought he was the best qb in the draft.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Crab, really? Don’t be follow classless reads with some of your own. You are better than that!!

      • MontanaMan16 says:

He was! Just went to the worst possible situation in the nfl!

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Montana, exactly. What is really interesting is when some here compare Kap sitting for a year and a half on a playoff caliber team and AS being drafted to a talentless 2005 team. They need to do their homework.

      • Sephora Sucker says:

Help me if I understand what Montana just said. Read above. Did he really just say Alex was the best QB in his draft?

    • 23jordan/ says:

      Josh,

So does that mean you won’t be coming back? Alex won’t be here next year. We know you won’t be either. Hofer can tell you where Alex is going. You might want to ask him. Give him a couple of weeks. He’s still in denial and is mourning. Did you get the flowers I sent you Hofer?

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Why do you waste the time posting such nonsense? Anything compelling to add? Of course not.

      • T says:

It’s not about next year. It’s about a crappy way to treat a good, tough, great guy. I know it is the NFL, but I don’t think Alex would have lost anymore than Kap has. He certainly is not a better thrower or rusher than Kap, but I would have bet money on the niners to make it to the SB with Alex behind center. I wouldn’t bet a dollar on them making it with Kap.

      • 23jordan/ says:

        T,

Well maybe you should apply for the job of head coach of the SF 49ers. You clearly know more than he does. he felt like Kap was the better option. Tell me your opinion of why you think Smith was the better choice. Oh yes, Smith would not have beaten New England, nor Seattle. So in essence, he would’ve lost more.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

T, there are no elite teams in the playoffs. Once in, any team can get hot and win. CK is outstanding eluding the pass rush and making plays with his feet and arm. Stay tuned…

      • T says:

The niners would be elite with smith. Just as they were before smith was hurt. The question marks have only come after. You may be right that we can get hot with Kap, but I haven’t seem the “team” get hot yet. It’s been off and on. I certainly do not think I am a better coach than Harbaugh, but I have seen him make many mistakes. I think we as fans have the right to question a dramatic change to the team, when really a change was not necessary. And for those that point to the Giants game where AS threw three picks or the blatantly terrible throw for a pick in the end zone against Seattle. We have all seen Kaps throw for pick last week against Seattle. That was pretty bad.

      • Caps_Lock says:

The niners would be elite with smith.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Thanks for the belly laugh, I haven’t had a good one for a while…

The niners would be elite with smith.

STOP IT! STOP IT!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, YOU’RE KILLING ME, I CAN’T BREATHE I’M LAUGHING SO HARD!!!

      • BOS49er says:

We were pretty elite last year with AS at QB. U probably missed that while u were busy being a miserable douche

    • Big niner says:

I loved his farewell time in. I actually kind of missed it….don’t know why but maybe it’s because I feel AS gave his all here. He tried and tried but it wasn’t meant to be. He’s a class act people. I was happy to hear the fans chanting Alex Alex Alex!!! great send off to a classy person and a REAL 49er!! Thanks for the memories and good luck.

      • T says:

Yeah BG, it was awesome. Unfortunately my ride had to leave, but I could hear it from the parking lot. I’m sure Kap will take us to greener pastures in the future, so lets just enjoy the ride.

    • Forever Faithful says:

Couldn’t have said it better, Josh.
Thought you were above that sort of thing Grant.
This is your blog; show some class and lead by example.

  5. Domingo says:

“He makes throws no one else in the NFL makes”. Sounds like something I would say and I freely admit to being a Kaeper, though I loved the reception that Alex Smith received today. Kaep has the ability, at times, to make throws that the great ones have made. A little bit of Brette Favre mixed in with a little bit of Dan Marino. Not their equal yet and he is not a great QB yet but I would make it the highest priority in the 49er front office to add another great WR to compliment Crab because if the Niners develop this kid he can be a great passer in this league.

    • Tyrant.com says:

I agree. The last preseason game it looked like kap and aj Jenkins were going to have some great chemistry. Who knows what’s going on with Jenkins. We need to face it, he may be a bust. With kaps ability to throw deep we need to draft a dynamic receiver. Would love to see Calvin Johnson lined up opposite crabs. Oh well, dreaming

      • Domingo says:

Yep. Another great WR to go with Crabs would help maximize Kaep’s development. Unfortunately guys like Megatron don’t grow on trees. I’d take Keenan Allen in this years draft.

      • Nick says:

Well, the Niners passed up on Quick, Hill, Jeffery, Randle, Sanu, and TY Hilton to get AJ Jenkins. What gives you confidence in Baalke when it comes to evaluating WR talent?

      • Domingo says:

I am in a “what have you done for us lately” mode when it comes to Baalke but all it will take for him to prove us wrong is just a few great picks. Its time for him to pull a Rabbit out of his hat.

  6. LSX says:

Kaep makes throws no other QB in the NFL can make? Really?

    • Hoferfan67 says:

No. The great GCosell already mentioned that JCutler and MStafford have stronger arms. There is another that I can’t recall right now.

      • Tyrant.com says:

You can’t recall because he doesn’t exist

      • Crab15 says:

Hofe/MrNegative – Most Niner fans are celibrating #2 seed but you are still bad mouthing our qb.
That will help your diminishing credibility. What happened to you? Sad man

      • Prime Time says:

Crabs just a question, some fans had their doubts about Alex repeatedly over the years correct? Now that we have a new QB an some fans have doubts about him, how is that being negative? Are we not entitled to now voice maybe our concerns regarding this new direction at the QB position?
It’s seems like you guys think we should not and if we do we are just being negative. I don’t get that? Are we just suppose tomsaybhe has arrived because of a couple good games?

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Crab, I know you like to follow Jordan’s thoughts and responses but you can do better if you try. Come on bro.

      • Crab15 says:

Prime – You are entitled but the timing isn’t good.
We just won NFC West and got #2 seed. Time to celibrate not tear down our players like Hofer is doing.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Crab, I only quoted what GCosell said here. He did say JC and MS have stronger arms why is that tearing down? That not dismissing CK. Hell Marino had a stronger arm than JMo and who had more SBs? Sensitive bro? We’re in the playoffs. Good times.

      • AES says:

        Hofe,
While GC is correct regarding Cutler’ and Stafford’ ARM strength, they don’t possess the ability to throw on the run like CK.

Newton and RGIII seem to have this ability as well.
CK is only 7 games in so there is definite truth to his upside especially with Harbaugh in his corner.

    • MontanaMan16 says:

I could see myself liking Kaep more than I do if it wasn’t for all the stupid comments like that!

      • T says:

Crab. We got the 2 seed because we were lucky. Last year we earned it and bullied opponents to receive it. With AS behind center. I love Kap and his ability but let’s be realistic, AS did a damn fine job having this team ready for the SB. With Kap I’m not so sure they are ready

    • 23jordan/ says:

      LSX,

That 1st touchdown to Crabtree was a great throw. That was the quick strike ability that we were talking about. backups rarely do that. We know that oh too well. Our backup couldn’t do it.

      • LSX says:

Kaep can make all the throws, I’m not disputing that. But according to Grant he can make throws that Brees, Brady, Rodgers, the Mannings, etc can’t. That is an absurd statement. I still don’t understand why he always speaks in extreme absolutes.

    • 23jordan/ says:

      Crabs,

The clown Prime can recognize that Kap has had only a “couple ” of good games. Hofer can’t even do that. These girls kill me! On another note. What did I tell you that Crabtree would do with a real QB. No more CHECKDOWNS for Crabtree. He’s a playmaker now.

  7. Hoferfan67 says:

“They were some of the best hand offs and kneel downs you’ve ever seen.”

That was very Jordan like. I thought you had more class. Maybe not.

    • 23jordan/ says:

      Hofer,

What’s really up with you man. You don’t want me mentioning you in threads where you’re not involved. The last time I did, you cried like a girl for 4 days. Practice what you preach. Better yet, why don’t you just disappear. Now that we can all recognize the bitterness that I always knew was there, I’m sure most of us Niner fans would rather you just go check your yard for falling trees for he next 10 years. Why wait for Alwx Smith to leave the Niners? Why don’t you get a head start? Adios Hofer. You won’t be missed. Hopefully those 8 statistical categories you moaned about have gone up now. Kap was money today. I’m sure it hurt your heart. You miserable…..

    • Neal says:

I just don’t understand the Smithers , other then they are not true Niner fans, I hated to see Joe Montana go, he was by far my favorite athlete of all time, but when Steve Young took over, I was no longer rooting for Joe, and it was very tough that we lost to the Chiefs the year that we won the Super Bowl. Now that being said Alex Smith is no Joe Montana, unless your on crack or your DS. Get over it Smithers, your all unhappy campers.

      • Domingo says:

I was amazed at the negativity by the so called Smithers early in the game today. Are they Niner fans or are they Smithers? Can’t be both.

      • Neal says:

They are Smithers and they will be out in force, and they just want to be abunch of ” I told you so” If the Niners win the Super Bowl, they will say Smith could of won that game too. At least he will get a ring.

      • Prime Time says:

Even the staunchest Smith hater cannot be completely confident of going into the playoffs with Kap’s issues of game management and inconsistency in leading drives.
This has nothing to do with Alex and everything to do with trying to win a championship with a very green kid who looks phenomenal at times and a deer in headlights in other times.
I guess blind faith is what you are asking for D?

      • exgolfer says:

        Neal,

“You’re” is the contraction for “you are”, not “your”. It’s “other than”, not “other then”. For the love of god, can you get it right, just once?

    • Hoferfan67 says:

      Jordan,

Who cares what you think? Very few follow your nonsense. I typically read rocket, adam, under, AES, Niner 61, Crab and a few others. But you, not so much. You get very little traffic here. Off you go…bye.

      • 23jordan/ says:

        Hofer,

You just hurt me. I know you don’t follow me. You’re in denial. I told you that you’re brother in law was done in SF. You didn’t believe me. Please follow me like you say you do the others! We all know that the only guy you really follow is Alex Smith. Come on and admit it like a man. You are an Alex Smith fan, not a Niner fan. You are a Niner skeptic. You’re waiting for Kap to fail. Newsflash, Kap will fail with 10 times as much flair than Alex has. Why don’t you turn in your Niner fanhood, as transparent as it is. I can’t wait until next season. That way, I won’t have to read your fake, backhanded posts anymore. I’m happy that Kap is making you suffer.
Smithing– Where one sits on the bench and stares at his wrist for plays that the starting QB is running. Try it sometimes.

      • Neal says:

        Hof,

What up today, is their something else that is really bothering you? We can keep this confidential if you would like.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Denial? The 9ers made the playoffs. If they win it all I will enjoy #6. I’ll crack open a good bottle of champagne. How about you?

      • 23jordan/ says:

        Hofer,

You mean you’ll be crying in your beer. Youre miserable. Just admit it. We recognize your posts. They aren’t difficult to gauge. You are in so much pain. You need to get yourself so,e help with that. The alcohol only makes it worse. Poor Hofer. Stay away from all sharp objects.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Typical nonsense comment from the great Jordan. I thought we’d get more from you but I guess not.

  8. MontanaMan16 says:

Did you guys hear Al Michaels just tell the story of after getting Luck at Stanford, JH brought in RG3 and told him they could run a 2 qb system? Wow! How that would’ve changed things! Would’ve been crazy to see tho!

    • Domingo says:

That was pretty good. Kind of like Chip Kelly and the Oregon Ducks have Marcus Mariota and Johnny Manziel both committed to the Ducks at one time during the 2011 recruiting cycle before Manziel de-committed from the Ducks and switched to Texas A and M. The Ducks got the better guy.

    • Ed from AZ says:

He probably would have gone with the hot hand again and one of those QBs would now be an afterthought. RGIII is too smart to fall for that one though.

  9. angusinCanada says:

I missed the 2nd half (clearly better than the half I saw), but I’ve heard about the cheering that Alex got. Good for the fans, showing some class there, that’s all too often missing from the stands. Alex overcame a real bad deal here, and was playing great football here. The fans in the stands seem to get that, it’s interesting that such a vocal minority that don’t, pollute this blog.

And Grant, I assume you were just jesting, but really? Stuff like that comes off as snide and mean-spirited.

    • Tyrant.com says:

Alex played some great football her. I must have missed that other than the ending of the saints game

      • angusinCanada says:

        Tyrant,
I’m not going to waste time arguing with you. I might as well argue with someone who’s convinced green is brown. You’re the example I was making in my post.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Angus, or debate a slab of concrete. Same thing.

      • BOS49er says:

Tryant its called 2011 check it out on the internet we were the #2 seed that year

  10. Dee Phiant says:

Grant, you’re starting to sound just as classless as your dad……………

  11. Dee Phiant says:

Your high opinion about Kap does not match the listless game. Kap should be EXTREMELY THANKFUL to Crab. Crab makes Kap look good. This wasn’t the first time that Crab had to make something out of a not so close ball! This isn’t the first time that Moss had or almost had an INT because of the throw! Crab makes TD’s out of Kap’s crap. Other can’t do that as well.

    • Neal says:

What the hell are you drinking or snorting?

    • 23jordan/ says:

      DeePhiant,

Still fighting it huh? C’Mon man. You’re the only person who is critical of the QBs America today. Does that tell you anything? he’s better than Alex and its killing you. Youre gonna miss the fun if you don’t get some help with that situation you have with the EX QB.

    • Tyrant.com says:

Considering kap is running for his life almost every time he goes back to pass its amazing how accurate his throws are. Alex smith would be throwing lob passes out of bounds with that kind of pressure. That being said, I do agree with you about crabs. He’s turning into big time receiver

    • Domingo says:

And Crab should be EXTREMELY THANKFUL for CK. Ever hear of Montana to Rice or Young to Rice? We got Colin Kaepernick to Crabtree now!

      • Neal says:

        Exactly !!

      • Tyrant.com says:

And Alex smith should be thankful to harbaugh. He went from being a horrendous qb to almost mediocre

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Yep. Kap should be thankful also. He could have landed with a MN or MS type HC. Karma is on his side indeed.

      • 23jordan/ says:

        Hofer,

Go cry yourself to bed. It’s over for you and Alex. get your bottle and take it to bed with you. No drinking and driving.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Thanks Jordan I’ll take your advice. What a waste of time. Why do you post such nonsense. You’d be better off playing cards. Is this all you have to offer??

      • bayareafanatic says:

        Haterfan67,
while Jordan may be coming at you a tad bit hard, your posts warrant it. I struggle for word to describe the type of fan you are and then I realize why. Because you are not a fan.
For every action there is a reaction. I don’t think people would be coming down so hard on you if you hadn’t painted yourself as such a fan last year. “All in”, “In Harbaugh we trust”, ” I’ll cheer for whichever QB is starting for the 49ers”. You said all of these things Hof. And now you just look like a fraud… You did this to yourself home boy…

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Bay, do you mean I’m not a real fan like you? Post some compelling reads once in a while and some here will take you more seriously. Happy New Year to you and yours!

      • 23jordan/ says:

        Hofraud,

That’s the perfect handle for you. Will you support the QB that Harbaugh chooses????????? ou are a fraud and a joke. You certainly aren’t posting anything about football Hofraud! How did Kap look to you? How did Alex look to you.

Here’s the skinny on Hofer. he gave his thoughts on the applause the crowd gave Alex. However, he never commented one on how his QB of his team played today????? Hofraud, you’ve never fooled me. Pack your bags and turn in your Niner playbook. You are off to Arizona!!

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Another read that can be missed and be the better for it. Jordan you use to post some good reads here but lately not so much. Like I said earlier, it doesn’t matter to me what you think. I follow the likes of Rocket, Adam, AES, Angus, Rib, Jack, DRS, and some I’m forgetting and respect their insight. I’m looking forward to seeing their comments this week.

      • 23jordan/ says:

        Hofraud,

Don’t distract me. I’m busy exposing you. I don’t need to approve of my posts. I know I post quality material. Right now, I’m working on getting rid of Smithers and haters of our new starting QB. that means you Hofraud. Beat it!

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Jordan, just more validation of my earlier comments. Keep up the good work. Nonsense begets more nonsense.

      • 23jordan/ says:

        Hofraud,

Enlighten me on how you think our STARTING QB played today? I know what you think about the backup. What about the starter?

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Jordan, no need to respond. I’ve read more than enough of your Jordanisms the last couple of years. Nothing new and nothing football related or compelling.

      • 23jordan/ says:

        Hofraud,

I didn’t think you had a comment about OUR, not your starting QB. My how you’ve changed. Trust me, more people than you believe have noticed it. I see right through you. I just hate a fake. I never hid my feelings about Smith. I didn’t like his play and I let it be known. You’re a fraud.

      • exgolfer says:

        Bay,

Typical nonsense in which you contradict yourself in the same sentence. “while Jordan may be coming at you a tad bit hard, your posts warrant it.” If Jordan is coming at Hofer a tad bit hard, then Hofer’s posts don’t warrant the degree of harshness. If Hofer’s posts do warrant the harshness of Jordan nonsensical rants, then Jordan isn’t coming at Hofer a too hard.

See how that works? That’s what we call “logic”.

      • dangle says:

Holy Crap! Jordan I was trying to ignore this whole you vs hofer thing, but seriously:
“Will you support the QB that Harbaugh chooses?????????”
You can’t possibly be that oblivious or hypocritical. Based on 98.9% of your posts for the past 2 years, You have absolutely no standing to make that comment.

      • Sephora Sucker says:

        ExGolf
“A tad bit hard” is not the same as “too hard,” so your sanctimonious comment does not ring true. Perhaps you’d like to explain further how a measure of a “tad bit” is the same as “too” much?

      • 23jordan/ says:

        Dangle,

Apparently, you didn’t read enough of Hofraud’s comments. You see, I was making light of what he always used to say when Smith was QB. If you’ve read my posts for the past 2 years then you know what my position always has been with regards to Smith. Hofraud, on the other hand, has always maintained that we should support the QB, no matter who said QB is. That he would do the same. I’m sure you’ve read all his compliments about our QB tonight. He’s bleeding support of Kap!

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Dangle, you had it right and now you are seeing more of Jordan’s hypocrisy. Same nonsense different year.

      • dangle says:

Jordan, the point I was making is that if someone is making critiques of the 49ers QB, legitimate or not, you, of all people, have no right to give them a hard time. For you to do so is beyond hypocritical. If this was the daily show, This is the segment where Jon Stewart would play a 3 minute montage of you bashing the QB.

    • ninermd says:

Lol crabs makes ck look good? Lmao! Excuse me but is this MC’s first 1000 yard year? Hmmmm guess it shows how good he could have been for the past 4 years with a qb who actually buys time and looks downfield more often. Not hot route check down. I told everyone of you that if smith had improved his field vision and pocket presence he would make MC a thousand yard receiver. Even in smiths best career year he missed MC wide open to many times. And yet some of you dummy’s claimed he couldn’t get open. WRONG he was open he just Didnt ha e the time or qb to get the damn ball after 4 seconds.

      • MontanaMan16 says:

That definitely explains the huge game he had against AZ the first time with Smith at Qb! Only Smith was able to get Moss involved as well!

      • BOS49er says:

Now I know why that defender tackled Crab the first 3 years. It wasn’t becuase he was hurt, it was because #11 was on the field. With CK in there the defenders are so mesmerized by his tatoos they allow MC to break tackle after tackle. BRILLIANT

  12. AES* says:

Grant’s last sentence did have a sarcastic edge to it. But AS did receive a great ovation when he came in today and that is what should be remembered going forward.

On the other hand, I haven’t heard any of the CK doubters apologize for calling CK a ‘run first’ QB after his first win against the Bears. Even after his 7th game in which he has proven that notion to be completely false, those who blasted him for being a ‘running QB’ have not ‘manned-up’ and say that they were wrong in trying to tag that label on him.

The important thing here is that we are in the playoffs and I expect to see a fierce defense and a very potent/explosive offense leading us all the way to the Superbowl.

    • 23jordan/ says:

      AES,

Hofraud won’t be manning up anytime soon. he’s never been wrong a day in his life. he did want us all to know that Alex came off of the bench with class today. Hofraud had no comments about Kaepernick, good or bad. He probably didn’t see the game. When the Niners win and Kap plays well, there’s always a tree down somewhere around his house.

      • AES* says:

        23J,

You know that I have never once hated on AS. I critiqued his play when he was off, and gave him kudos when he was on. I won’t sugercoat bad play and I won’t overhype good play. I try to tell it like I see it.

AS is still a 49er and a vital member of this team. If CK were to go down I will give AS my full support and expect him to lead us to the winning circle.

Here’s a thought that occurred to me the other day: What kind of a storyline would it be if CK was injured in the Superbowl, and AS came in to guide the team to a victory?

Perhaps one thing would hold true if this were to happen. For one day at least, there would peace in the 49er nation. Maybe all the contending factions could finally enjoy a win that pleases both sides.
Sure beats winning a Superbowl and still hearing all the ensuing drama that follows (lol).

      • 23jordan/ says:

        AES,

That would never happen. My position has always been the same and will never change. Alex Smith can’t win a Super Bowl. He won’t win a Super Bowl.cI have NEVER wavered on that. I never will. If Kap got hurt in the Super Bowl, we could only hope Smith could do it. I wouldn’t believe he could for 1 second. Entirely too many holes in his game.

      • exgolfer says:

        AES,

I’m not sure if some here could enjoy a SB victory under the AS scenario you laid out.

I would love to see CK throw eight TD’s in a SB win this year. It would be great. Not sure if it’s going to happen……..

AES, good read and well said.

You didn’t have to go there on Alex, Grant. Totally classless…

  14. 5253 says:

Good day today. 2nd seed locked up; could use a little time to get rested and healthy. CK and MC looking like they’re becoming the most potent 49er QB/WR combo since Garcia/Owens. I like the way Brown and Brooks played on the defensive side today, too.

  15. Tyrant.com says:

Kaps first year starting. He’s only going to get better. The sky is the limit. Alex smith never had anywhere near this kind of talent

  16. Adam says:

Nice game by CK after Q1. That first quarter I was thinking let’s do a straight trade for Hoyer. :P But some great Crabernick connections on several of those throws and Delanie! Almost. Almost.

Nice class on the part of the Niner fans in the stadium cheering Alex Smith. Nice touch for a guy who deserves credit.

Pretty decent game all the way around but man… sure had me worried in the first quarter. Three and out – rinse and repeat.

Nice to have the bye too. I don’t care what the players were saying to Mindi Bach after the game, some rest is needed!

I’m kinda hoping Dallas rolls in to town. The next best beatdown after the Giants! ;)

  17. Crab15 says:

Hofer – You said Joshua Morgan, Kyle Williams and Manningham were
better than Crabtree and he could never be a #1 receiver. Do you still feel that way?
Àt least you didn’t call Crabtree a diva.

    • Hoferfan67 says:

Crab, that is how you celebrate? Cheers to you as well. BTW, find the comment when I said that please.

      • Crab15 says:

Hofer – Did DS hack your computer? I don’t recognize you anymore.
Why are you so pissed? Niners just won NFC West and got a #2 seed?

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Crab, I compliment good reads but nonsense is nonsense. To compare some to others here is weak and not compelling. You can do better because I’ve seen better from you.

      • 23jordan/ says:

        Crabs,

Look at Hofrauds posts from last year when Smith was the QB. Look at them when the Niners were pursuing Manning. Look at the last 5 weeks if you can find any. Hofraud is exactly that. A FRAUD!

      • Hoferfan67 says:

        Jordanisms,

Enough already! We’ve all heard your nonsense over and over and over. Especially the JJ will supplant both CK and AS. That was the topper! Enough.

      • 23jordan/ says:

        Hofraud,

I’m going to put you to bed tonight. ll be here all night until you compliment our QBs play today. How did OUR QB play today. Not your QB, our QB? I’m waiting you fake.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Jordanisms, just brilliant. Such a sharp guy! LOL

      • BOS49er says:

    • 23jordan/ says:

      Crab,

Hofraud is in mourning. He’s a fake, a fugasi, he’s a Hofraud. Look for a compliment on Kaps play today from Hofraud. Better yet, don’t bother. You won’t find it. this guy is pathetic. He’s a hypocrite. All on my azz. He’s a Smither and a hypocrite. He’s also butthurt. JH broke his heart. Benched his boy.

  18. jeff says:

To give him an A grade – means he was nearly perfect…which he wasn’t and you just can’t excuse the first quarter, because “everybody played bad”. Most any other team today and we would of probably been down by 14 points after the first quarter. This wasn’t the finest quality of opponent folks.
I agree he looked good for the most part of three Quarters. I would give him a B+ for the game…why? because he left VD out to dry again and two throws could of easily been intercepted. Maybe I’m nitpicking but our third down percentage wasn’t great and he is relying too much on Crabtree who definitely played the game of his career instead of distrubuting to the other recievers more. I also think CK at times is still reverting back to running out of the pocket when his first read is covered to quickly. A habit he needs to break…it’s CK’s default…when he feels pressure. I think theere would of been times a second wide-out would of came open, but then again he does make plays out of the pocket.
Again, I thought he played good not great. I don’t know if this performance on offense by the Niners would of got it done against a play-off caliber team. The Cardinals stink and should of been blown out of the stadium. They truly are bad. Maybe I’m just expecting a little higher level of play first from CK than to just hand him the automatic A grade and trophy for his performance today.

    • Fansince 77 says:

CK continues to be a work in progress. Some great throws, and some dumb throws. He was way late on the throw to Moss in the end zone. AZ play one quarter and then they quit.

No one should be surprised by this. It’s part of the growing pains.

When you look at CK’s body of work for 7 games, he’s played one great game from beginning to end, and that was the Bears game.

Crabs had a great game against AZ last time too, when he caught 2 TD passes from Smith.

What’s scary for the Niners Offense is the disappearance of VD. He’s the most explosive player on Offense and we haven’t heard from him in about 10 games.

  19. fesnyc says:

    Kaepernick: B.

I have been a big fan of the switch to Kaep, and some here might think i’ve had it in for Alex from the getgo, but I have to continue to call it the way I see it, and I think in the last 2-3 games Kaep has been less decisive and has resorted to more unsuccessful rollouts as defensive coordinators have worked to confuse/stymie him. Don’t get me wrong, this is not an about-face that the move to Kaep was wrong; frankly, i think we all knew Kaep was going to have growing pains, and we hoped that they would be minor and relatively costless. Given that he’s lost Manningham, KW, and KH, overall i think he’s done a heckuva job. But I have to grade him on the same curve as I’d grade Alex or any other starter, and I think he deserves something less than an A. The offense completely sputtered at the start, and the defense gave us enough chances to get the offense rolling. This is why good teams beat teams like the Cards – you can have a less than stellar day, but your talent wins out. But that doesnt deserve an A, imho.

Also: one of my knocks on Alex had been that great qbs make other players better, and he did not; similarly, i have to note that Kaep seems to have an excellent connection/chemistry with Crabs, and is truly making him better, but isn’t having the same effect on/with Moss, VD, DW, etc. I know he can’t make Moss 25 yrs old again, and I dont expect him to play at Joe’s virtuoso level, but right now his connection to Crabs seems almost like tunnel vision. Gotta get more guys in sync if we’re to get past our first playoff game.

    • 5253 says:

Good read fesnyc. I wouldn’t grade CK an A today, either; B+ seems more appropriate. 1 Small bone of contention: Delanie’s production has been better this year under CK. They’d be even better if Delanie hadn’t dropped 2 TD passes (1 vs Rams and the drop today). Concerning VD, I can’t help but think it’s something systemic–our play-calling/game planning or how opposing defenses are covering him. Case in point, outside of the Bear game, we haven’t seen VD with big numbers since the Bills game. Perhaps Crabs emergence is part of the equation.

      • dangle says:

Crab does seem to be getting a lot of 1-1 matchups, or in the case of that one quick slant 1-0! That has to be due to the defensive scheme and i’m no expert but maybe VD’s coverage has something to do with it, maybe not, but either way, if Crabs keeps this up, he will command more defenders’ attention, which will mean VD or the running game gets less attention. Good Stuff

    • Dee Phiant says:

Great read Fesnyc. Similar to my earlier post, that everybody tripped all over. Crab makes Kap looks good. PERIOD! Kap said it himself a few days ago how Crab grabs everything that comes close to him. Other receivers don’t do the acrobatics and now Kap is starting to try and compensate and overthink and the mistakes come out when Crab isn’t open.
The playoffs will make a man or a boy out of him!

      • 23Jordan says:

Well how come he didnt make Alex look aa good. Look at the numbers with bith QBs. The numbers dont lie.

      • Prime Time says:

Yeah Crabs got the 1000 yards receiving in the past 7 games. Go look at the game logs and see. What a tool!

      • Jack Hammer says:

Crabtree had been thought of as an underneath possession receiver, but that seems to have changed during the second half of the season.

In the first 9 games he had a 20+ yard reception in only 3 games, but he has put up a 20+ yard reception in 6 of his last 7 games.

    • 23Jordan says:

      Fesnyc,

Respectfully disagree about Kap making receivers better. Look at Walkers numbers. Miss is Moss. Vernon has not put a full effort into making some plays. Even the low ball yesterday on the sideline pattern. Dive for one ball Vernon!

      • Prime Time says:

But how can he make plays if the ball is not thrown to him. You just said that Crabtree has been better cause they are throwing the ball to him. What, that does not apply to Vernon?
CK has not made Moss look any better, actually vice versa having to hold DB’s and knock down balls to avoid INT’s.
I wonder if you actually watch the games or does someone translate them for you via brale?

      • 23jordan/ says:

Brale??? What a dummy!!! Look the word up before you use it to insult someone. Definitely need to continue to ignore the troubled child. BRALE! Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

      • Prime Time says:

But no argument about the receiving yards or making other WR look better. Stick to Madden and fantasy football and or talking to Bay and Neal exclusively. You simply don’t know the game of football. That’s a fact!

  20. Hoferfan67 says:

An “A” is too high. I’d say a B+ with the slow 1st qtr start, 57% completion number, and 4-14 in third down conversions against one of the worst teams in the NFL. Additionally, there were two picks that were just missed with great saves by MC and RM.

    • 23jordan/ says:

      Hofraud,

Arizona has one of the best defenses in the league. Kap does not play against Arizona’s pathetic offense. You are just all over everywhere Mr Fraudulent!

    • 23jordan/ says:

      Hofraud,

The Ex Niner fan Hofraud. He wants to enlighten us on how OUR QB almost threw interceptions. How close cardinal defenders were to creating turnovers. What a traitor! Benedict Hofraud Arnold!! Why don’t you tell us how Akers almost made those 2 field goals he missed. You’re killing me smalls!

  21. Big niner says:

Ok, Now that we’re done fighting and I waistesd15 minutes hoping to get something useful, let me express myself. We were still predictable on first and second down. That’s why we had so many 3rd and longs and 4th and 5 to six yards.
G RO is a horrible play caller. He runs when he needs to pass and opposite. I’m not sure what happened in the 2-4 quarters but some one handed catches and 4th down conversions really helped.
How can he not get VD involved? With his speed, does anyone know if he’s still having problems running the proper routes? I know he still likes to jump uneccesarily to catch balls. That’s why he got lit up last week against Seattle. But what’s the deal?
Vic called a good game against an inferior offensive team. Aldon was still a no show and has 0 sacks in 4 games.
Great to get the bye week. HUGE for our injury bug.

    • angusinCanada says:

Vernon got lit up last week against Seattle cuz Kaep threw a late floater, leaving him high and dry for a huge hit. He was standing there waiting for the ball as the db raced across the field, gaining velocity.

      • Mr. Everything says:

It’s football. It’s violent. It was a good pass. Vernon failed to hold onto it. Bad Vernon, very bad.

      • Rusty_in_OC says:

You might want to rewatch that one, Every. Angus described it exactly as it happened.

      • 23jordan/ says:

        Rusty,

The description was poor. Vernon wasn’t standing there. Vernon jumped in the air for a pass that he didn’t have to jump for. He helped to get himself knocked out by leving the ground. He was still going to take a shot but I wish he had held on to the ball. The pass was not a bad pass.

  22. Brian in Oakland says:

I don’t understand why some of you get so butt hurt when Grant gets sarcastic about Alex Smith… is sarcasm not allowed? Or just not for this guy? Why do you feel the need to protect this multimillionaire (mediocre) professional athlete? Do you have a man crush? I think so… ’cause I don’t think that you’d give two sh$ts about sarcasm directed at other mediocre players. I grew up on the West Coast, but I have two East Coast parents and one thing I’ve always noticed is that West Coast people can’t stand confrontation — most of us don’t see the joy in it. It’s very human, it’s very interesting, but most West Coasters would prefer not to rock the boat — do you all just love vanilla ice cream and missionary sex? Live a little.

    • BOS49er says:

      Oak
Its because it comes with an agenda. Like for instance Grant threw a litle tantrum when we drafted AJJ and rest assured he will spend the next years posts giving a slanted view to justify his initial overreaction. Grant was “hot” for CK so like many posters on here to him that means denigrating AS to make Kaep look better by comparison (thus undercutting his own argument because true greatness isnt compared to mediocrity). He says things like “allways” and “Never” absolutes that very rarely are absolute.
As an Eascoaster i loooove confrontation (im guessing the crappy weather gives people in bos NY and Phi an edge) but this is just sniveling passive agressive crap. If u hate the guy come out and say it but the little backhanded compliments and snipes are uncalled for

      • Brotha Tuna says:

        @ Bos
In a rare occurrence I’ll disagree with you on this one. I think it would be fair to say that Grant didn’t respect Alex even before CK was drafted. If I recall correctly his snide remarks preceded that draft. I also seem to remember him being critical of CK early on, including in this spring’s OTAs.
        > AJJ: I too believe Grant has an agenda on Jenkins, but in fairness, WE CAN’T CALL HIM ON IT!!!! AJJ has yet to present any defense of himself as an NFL player. OK? Until he does Grant can just snide away, LOL!!

    • Rusty_in_OC says:

No, Brian, it’s because they’re hoping to find actual journalistic values here. Unbiased, fact-checked, fair and balanced reporting. But sports reporting has been long considered mere “entertainment” in the news biz, so the rules relax. And of course, there are no rules on a blog. Grant gets to write what he wants, as long as the hits keep comin’.

    • Brotha Tuna says:

Interesting take, Brian, aside from the Smither/Hater thing that is.
The confrontation thing is interesting; certainly Easterners are more used to it…….
Then you mention live a little and loosen up….? Hmmm, my experience is that the East is steeped in and sometimes slave to tradition and convention and Group Think while innovation most often sweeps from California eastward. You’re opinion is of course worthy, but my experience was to run from the East at full speed to the West Coast to escape the bounds of conventional thinking and to, well, you know, loosen up and live a little! Just my opinion.
And to my East Coast friends, I hope I didn’t insult you; just different strokes for different folks. Me and one sister live out west, my brother and other sister live back East.

    23J,
I respect your honesty, but could you push youself to root for AS in the event that this scenario happens?

Unlike you (with all due respect), I do believe that if CK were hurt in the SB that AS could come in and lead us to a victory.
Maybe I’m hoplessly positive, but I will cheer for ALL members of the 49ers.
That’s what I meant back in August when I said that I was ALL IN – with ALL 49ers players. That includes players on the field as well as those on the sidelines.

    • exgolfer says:

Good luck next year. f you plan on moving out that way, just know that it gets hit out there sometimes! Lol. Hate?? What’s wrong with you Lil buddy? Football is a game? No need to hate. I love my Niners! Thank God we benched your guy. We actually have a chance to win the Super Bowl this year!

      • exgolfer says:

        Jordan,

What are you, the blog Santa Claus? You’re keeping track of my posting habits? Keeping a list, and checking it twice? How nice for you that you have that kind of time. I’ve been occupying myself with other things, like spending time with family and friends during the holiday season. Besides that, this tire fire you and your cronies seem bent on perpetuating is getting monotonous.

You know what? I take back calling you the blog Santa Claus. You are more like the blog’s Joe McCarthy. You think if you say something long enough, loudly enough, it’ll make it true. No matter how false.

As I have stated before, many times, I support the both JH and CK.

I happen to also think AS is a pretty good QB.

That not withstanding, JH has decided that CK gives the 49ers a better chance to win. I’m fine with that, and believe JH made the right move. AS deserved better, but that’s life, nothing is promised.

In fact, if CK had the advantage of last year’s version of Akers, he’d only have one loss [last week's game with the Seahawks]. Oops, what have I done? Have I made a Kaepology? That certainly must be what you call that. I prefer to call it a reason, but to each their own. I know how steadfastly you ignore reasons. It’s only fair that you should be as unreasonably hard on CK as you were on AS.

If I recall, you and your kind loved to quote Greg Cossell to denigrate AS. Why is it we haven’t heard anything of what GC had to say about CK’s game in Seattle? I don’t think one game, especially a game in Century Link Stadium, is that big a deal. Having said that, had GC said about AS what he said about CK, we would’ve heard plenty about it by now. If I didn’t know better, I would say you guys are being hypocritical.

Bleeding hearts have always been the key to Smith fans anger on here.

It’s funny they call others classless when smith would have a good game and they would be on here trying to rub it in others faces. Oh my how things have changed. And these hypocrites I’m talking about are…..

    Hof
    Adam
    Ribico
    Ds
    Angus
    Oregon
    Ex golfer

And some new folks like tree and Josh.
Tell you what, I’m sure you all are old enough to have formed some kind of class, so I ask that you should at least try and buy some before pointing your hypocritical fingers at others. Shoes on the other foot and now you want to talk about class. Harbaugh hoodwinked you all and suckered you into believing smith was his guy. You all used that comment to death. My comment isn’t about smith vs Ck. it’s about you folks playing the victim roll all of a sudden and not taking the same medicine you dished out. All for just being able to say…. I told you so! Get real! Go Niners!

    • ribico says:

      >>when smith would have a good game and they would be on here trying to rub it in others faces.

Only because the haters were entirely deserving by their incessant drivel about how Alex couldn’t do this or that – couldn’t engineer a come back, couldn’t make this throw, couldn’t win a playoff, etc etc etc. …. And then he would time and again, to the tune of the best record in a decade, and the doorstep of the SuperBowl.

md, you are a man who follows scripture, no doubt. Go find the passage about noisy gongs and clanging bells. That describes you and your buddies to a tee.

And Grant, it’s predictable that the haters would make classless remarks towards Alex to the end, scumb@gs don’t empty their contents or change their stripes easily. For you to join in that juvenile chorus, is completely unacceptable and the height of inappropriate journalistic conduct. Team fans, such as those cheering at the ‘Stick today, as well as readers and contributers to this blog deserve a little more professionalism from Mr. Cohn. Try to provide it.

    • Hoferfan67 says:

MD, thanks. It’s an honor to make your end of year list. LOL

    • ninermd says:

To be some great like you and others did. I have him his props for what he did right Nd called it straight for things he Didnt. I Didnt give him excuses like you all did. And I don’t give excuses for any other player that struggles or coaches.

However I will continue to call you hypocrites out everytime you bash ck and claim smith would have done better. None of you have proven you’re a 49er fan. Just a bunch of bleeding hearts who want to pull for the underdog and say I told you so at ANY cost. Even the cost of this teams success. Again you can make it about hating smith or loving ck all you want. Smith is the past as of right now. But it’s about me calling you hypocrites out. You lumped me into this so called hater crowd. So now ill call you out. GO NINERS #Atrueallin49erfan

      • Hoferfan67 says:

MD, I’m still trying to understand what you consider hypocritical? I read Rib, Exgolfer, Adam, Angus, Oregon and I haven’t seen them post hyperbole. Especially compared to last year when you neglected to call people out when the 9ers made the playoffs.

Help me understand specifically which comments you are referring to especially mine. I’ve only been posting 1st half stats versus 2nd half of the year numbers.

      • ninermd says:

You’ve included yourself in these shenanagens. Another hypocritical comment. You’ve stated numerous times you weren’t going to be a part of the Alex smith arguements. Ck has a bad game and you place yourself at the scene again. No Adam don’t blame me. Blame your short term memory and love for rubbing losses or bad games in people’s faces.

      • Adam says:

Nope, you got the wrong guy. I don’t rub anything in anyone’s face over a loss. I might bag on Jordy for being a child with all his insults and foolish bets (that he’s always wrong on) but you’ve never seen me on here screaming to high heaven about the “Smithers can suck it!” The only times I’m not here anymore are during the week, the negativity here with the haters is disgusting and depressing and in second halves of games – my phone dies. I’ve given CK plenty of credit, including my post yesterday: First quarter miserable, the other three looked great, a couple excellent throws to Crabs, some nice awareness in the pocket and a real nice toss to Delanie that he shouldn’t have dropped.

You got the wrong guy or you’re not reading what I’m writing. I supported the CK draft move (go back and search it) but I’ve not liked some of his play and I wasn’t thrilled by “re-build” mode in the hunt for a Superbowl – that seemed absolutely asinine to me. But I’m not the hater out there screaming for his head and calling him “Krappernick”, etc. Yes, there are some haters on CK too.

I quite openly dislike Harbaugh’s attitude in his pressers and have made that quite clear. I will question his/Roman’s play calls all day long.

Other than some shots I took at Chilo Rachal and questioning Crabs’ commitment early on (until I looked up the seriousness of the foot injury) I don’t generally bag on the players. And I don’t call them all kinds of names or call posters (who support the players and the team) all kinds of nasty names. That’s for the hater crowd, I’m a fan.

      • ninermd says:

Adam the word you like to use “haters” separates you from the grown folks talk you say you want to engage in.

And I distinctly remember YOU and some backhand comments made towards these so called “haters” I don’t need to scroll back and look them up. My memory is just fine. You’ve “moved on” from these “hater” comments about 5 times now. No I got the right guy Adam. There’s a reason some on here pile up on you also. And it’s not because you’re a down the middle huge team first fan.

And this “rebuilding” stage you’re talking about. How is it a rebuilding stage? The better qb is playing right now. The defense isn’t as good as last year nor is the running game not is the special teams. What improvement has smith shown this season to make anyone in their right minds think he improved enough to take some of the pressure off of those woes? The ball control game managing game on offense isn’t and wasn’t going to work as good this season with those other parts not being able to carry smith and the passing game this season. How hard is it for you guys to see that this is what Harbaugh saw? It’s not rocket science. It’s just making adjustments with the best players that give the better chance to win. Plain and simple. Ck is better for the job this season.

MD, Adam along with Rocket has always been very fair and balanced with his comments. It’s a new season. It’s the playoffs and each and every game is essential. Two weeks to focus on the positive. Happy New Year!

      • ninermd says:

Good to hear Hof. We ALL should be gearing up for the playoffs together and pulling for whoever is qb or kicker or catching or running. I am personally done talking about Alex smith and talking about who said what. After I state that NO Adam was NOT fair and balanced with his comments all the time. He took cheap shots and called other juvenile while doing so and stated numerous times he was done with all of the juvenile talk. That’s just the truth.

Now with that being said. I’m done with all of the talk I mentioned in the first paragraph. It’s time to focus on questions that are unanswered and put my energy into rooting these guys on to a Superbowl. GO NINERS!!!

      • Adam says:

The haters define themselves, MD. Perfectly clear to anyone who is looking. Who are the “grown folks” on here? I’m wondering what that list looks like. What cheap shots? The cheap shots come from guys like Jordy and Neal constantly on DS every waking second, do they not? Is that hard to see, or…?

I don’t know what backhand comments you’re talking about but surely if a guy is acting like a Tool on here, he gets called out. Too bad. The problem is the PD allows this to go on and on and on and so there ya have it, it won’t stop. I’m tired of it, you can’t even have a conversation on here without three or four people jumping down your throat posting insults. Try posting analysis that other writers are putting together that doesn’t support the hater position and see what happens. But hey, if a guy is acting like a douche bucket then hey, I might just call him out – most times I try to avoid it but occasionally a guy is enough of an a-hole, it’s hard to resist. This drama is BS, in the real world these keyboard heroes would have a fat lip and a handful of teeth.

I’ve been a team guy since before you were born. I’ve been here through all the changes, I’ll be here long after Smith and Harbaugh are gone.

Let’s get to football: If it’s not a re-build in the middle of the season then what do you call it? Even Kurt Warner said yesterday that the Niners are trying to recreate their identity in the middle of a season. CK is a talent but we’re not all of a sudden an unstoppable force now that he’s in (as referenced by Sando’s piece the other day: http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/69259/49ers-offensive-drive-info-by-quarterback). BTW: I wanted to post this for discussion the other day but knew if I did that all the hype shows up, all the excuses and all the name-calling would follow. Anyway, this is why I wrote yesterday about CK padding his stats with this game. Alex had his Buffalo game, CK could have his Cards game because these drive stats… even the personal, individual stats? Not a lot of difference.

Where we’re getting killed is in the run game. Every flop so far we’re way under average in yards per carry. What that’s telling me is that if you stop the run game, you’ve beaten the Niners. So let’s see how our receivers step up in the playoffs because if you want to beat the Niners you take away the run game.

As I’ve said a hundred and one times, I like CK, seems like a good kid (the tats are lame but whatever) with a good arm and some mobility but he’s not perfect and whether or not the switch was necessary is certainly debatable (preferably without all the nastiness).

    • Adam says:

I have no idea what you’re talking about MD, but don’t include me in your shenanigans. You people and your high school drama is enough to make a guy drink. How about sticking to football talk.

The three or four of you were hating on Smith for as long as I’ve been here, you were labeled haters. Own it. Wear it like your badge of honor. Who cares? I haven’t been hypocritical of anything, I liked the draft of CK but I’m also going to point out his weaknesses, isn’t that what you haters said you were doing when in fact you were calling names and making up stats and berating anyone who didn’t agree with your incorrect assumptions? The hater club owns the hypocrites, don’t try to re-write history on this blog. The Alice Smith crowd and Lucky Sperm Jed crowd are the nastiest little keyboard coward worms here. End of story.

I don’t know what “butt hurt” is, sounds like some kind of slum thug wannabe thing or a gay slur but I’m not hurt in any fashion whatsoever. But thanks just the same.

    • ninermd says:

No offense Hof. Just calling it straight my dude. You’re dissatisfied posts about the move are well documented. Your attitude about the team has changed and its obvious you’re not happy with what Harbaugh wants. Sucks for you Bro. Just like you’ve told others in the past when Smith was starting. It’s your opinion and I’m not going to tell you how to have it. It would be nice to have the old positive Hof back though. You know. The all in Hof

      • Hoferfan67 says:

MD, what is the point of all of this? I mention that the 9ers offense has declined in the 1st half of the year versus the 2nd half of the year. I’ve been critical of the offense and the OC regardless of the QB. Everything stated was facts. So are you now stating all mistakes should be ignored, all stats dismissed, and all losses discounted?

      • Neal says:

Exactly Hof, why not as a Smither all you cared about was wins, now you are a hypocrite. If you don’t see the difference in QB’s, it is kind of embarrassing, with your propaganda mind. Will you be joining Alex next season? see ya.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

        Neal, Happy New Year!

I’m on to rooting for the playoffs. Good times.

      • Neal says:

Ok Hof Let the good times Roll. Happy New year.

      • ninermd says:

Hof. Nope! But when did you ever really call out Smith for his bad play? In detail you’ve never gone there like you are with ck. c’mon dude everyone sees your posts and know you’re not happy that smith was benched. Fact is I told you earlier in the year that if smith Didnt start throwing downfield more and expanding the pass game he wouldn’t be back. You argued that opinion and thought he wasn’t going anywhere and was all in with nothing but positive comments about Harbaugh and Smith. Where are those positive comments with frequency now Hof? We all notice it. We may not be able to read your body language but changing of positive comments to little jab comments at the new starter are very easy to see. It’s your name and your life. Again I’m not telling you how to post or live it. I’m just stating that maybe some were right, maybe you’re not all in if Smith isn’t under center.

The offense will be fine. Remember its the defense that gave up 30 plus points to the craphawks. Remember ck beat the best defense in the league at the time, Bree’s and Brady. Don’t see where this offense has fallen off. IMO Smith doesn’t win 2 of those 3 games. And that’s why he isn’t the starter. Another thing I stated was that the defense and st weren’t going to help carry Smith and the game managing approach again this season, and that he still had to improve and become an elite qb that can change the game himself at times. You also argued that point. Not trying to pat myself on the back. I’m just trying to put this Alex smith talk behind and roll forward with what we got. It seems guys like you and the other Smith fans can’t do it now. But you all wanted to move on when manning wasn’t picked up. Just another hypocritical fact Hof. Just sayin.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

MD, you’re right that I didn’t think PM was right for this team and it looks as though that was the correct decision. PM has another year and CK is the future. See how that works. Now live in the future. Playoffs is a new ball game.

  26. nffl says:

What’s wrong with all you clowns? Why does it need to be smith vs kaep? Last year you whiners were saying the same crap about smith. Bottom line is, we got the 2 seed. Time to celebrate? Maybe a bit. But if you dont realize we have issues going into the playoffs, youre an ignorant buffoon. With injuries and yes, ill say it, an unproven qb at the helm, a superbowl trophy is hardly a guarantee. But if youre fans of the team, support the team. Quit your gd arguments over who should be behind center. Neither one is pro bowl caliber, but either could play well enough to get us number 6.

  27. undercenter says:

Congrats to the Niners for winning the division and also regaining the number two seed. Well done. After the first quarter funk the offense picked it up thanks to LMJ. His second quarter run seemed to ignite the offense. Things that stood out to me is the Niners penalities were down that was a good improvement. CKs game management was much better this game, no delay of the games or forced timeouts. The defense was hard to measure due to the ineptness of the Cards. Crabs has really stepped it up this year regardless of who the QB is/was. In the fourth quarter the Niners should of attempted to get Jenkins the ball. Was really nice to see “most” fans appreciation for AS, was well deserved for sure.

  28. Dee Phiant says:

Smith will be gone next year, Kap’s mistakes and inexperience will still be with us then….Giving Kap an A because he wins is troubling. Calling people Smithers when they mention Kap’s mistakes is juvenile.

    • Prime Time says:

Kap was anything but an “A” but he did win the game and that’s all that matters. I think the A is based on numbers. Again the difference between understanding the game and being a fantasy football fan.

      • Mr. Everything says:

Please, Prime, wow us with your breakdown of how stats tell the story of Kaep’s fantasy prowess but not his leadership yesterday …

      • Prime Time says:

Tarzan CK throws some lasers out there then follows it up with poor reads and poor audibles at the line of scrimmage. The past couple weeks it has forced our defense to play a little longer and not be as fresh because our offense cannot sustain drives. There has been way too many 3 and outs.
You would not know that because your evaluation is based on the box score. That’s what fantasy fans do. Read this article and try to learn something big guy!

        http://www.mercurynews.com/mark-purdy/ci_22284987/purdy-good-and-bad-from-san-francisco-49ers

      • Mr. Everything says:

        Prime
You ended with an insult. But then you are a mocker of cancer patients, so I shouldn’t be surprised. But other than that, the ToP argument is a valid one. Keep bringing football talk, not insults. It looks better on you.

      • dangle says:

as far as not sustaining drives, that seems to be due to the decline of the running game. Since CK took over, the running game is down like 40 yards per game. That is a big contributor for the lack of sustained drives, which in turn wears out our defense faster.
KH got hurt and that didn’t help. Gore hasn’t looked terribly sprightly. The playcalling and LOS audibles (‘game-managing’ to some) might be different, And I think defenses may be playing the CK-offense differently, but that is just a guess. Either way, the coaching staff needs to figure it out so that the dominant running juggernaut attack can return to form. That is what this team is based on, and that is how you keep your defense looking fresh.

  29. bayareafanatic says:

I’m not a fan of QB ratings because it is a flawed system. Having said that I was looking at the QB ratings for end of year. There were a few surprises on there.
    1. Aaron Rogers with a 108.0 does not surprise me. 39 TD’s 8 Ints. Pure stud.
    No surprise here.
    2. Payton Manning 105.8 rating 37 TD’s 11 Int’s. Welcome back stud.
A bit of a surprise considering all of his neck surgeries.
    3. Alex Smith. 70% completion percentage led the league. Also carried his QB rating 104.1 . Protected the ball well. He was a surprise.
    4. RGIII 102.4 rating. His numbers were very Smith like. Except he is a rookie and he had over 700 yards rushing. Huge upside if he can stay healthy. Big surprise. Mostly because he is a rookie.
    5. Russell Wilson 100.0 rating. 26 TD’s versus 10 Int’s. Mobility makes him a difference maker. Biggest top ten QB surprise.
    6. Matt Ryan 99.1 rating. Huge year. Almost 5000 yards 32 TD’s 14 Ints. While not a surprise that he is top ten, his jump in production was definitely a surprise.
    7. Tom Brady 98.7 rating. Not a surprise. What is surprising about TB is that year after year he does what he does without a running game. Almost 5000 yards. 34 TD’s 8 Ints. Pure stud.
    8. Colin Kaepernick 98.3 in his first seven games as a starter is also a nice surprise. He had 10 TDs passing 5 rushing TD’s versus just 3 Int’s. The biggest surprise with this young stud is that he made the transition from running QB to passing QB so quickly.
    9. Ben Roethlisberger
    10. Drew Brees

    • Prime Time says:

Fantastic fantasy football stats. That’s your game!

      • bayareafanatic says:

How is your bipolar disorder doing prime. I can tell your prescribed cocktail hasn’t worked for you all year. Switch doctors buddy…

      • Prime Time says:

Never could talk football because you A don’t like what others say oppsite of your opinion, and B, it’s all about fantasy points. You don’t understand the game and it shows with your ability to call names.

      • BigP says:

        Prime,
I very rarely hear you talk football. You mostly make acerbic comments in response to other posters comments, usually when they are talking about CK. Sometimes you even mock cancer. You have been waiting for this kid to fall on his face (true fan there) and now that he hasn’t, you are looking for ways to knock his play. You have been flat out been praying for CK’s failure since before the Chicago game. That is the definition of “Hating.”

      • Neal says:

        Good Read Big P,

You just state the facts and only the facts!!

      • Prime Time says:

Big P maybe you should pay closer attention to my comments. I bash the haters and talk football with others.
As for hoping CK fail, your interpretation could not be further from the truth. I’m skeptical and for anyone on here to be totally convinced he has arrived is flat out lying. He has glorified brilliant moments followed by inconsistency. That’s all I have ever said and like I said, I’m not convinced he can win it all.

And for the last time, that was not me mocking lemons wife about having cancer and if you don’t believe me well go that’s life!

      • BigP says:

        Prime,
I pay attention to your comments. Like your comments right before CK’s first start, where nobody expected much from the backup QB, and he certainly wasn’t a threat to Smith’s starting position.

“And when Kaepernick comes out and looks like a deer in headlights tonight and coughs up the ball, it will be an epic night cause then finally you haters will realize he is not ready. I can’t wait to see the egg on your faces later this evening.”
The irony of you addressing people as “haters” after such a comment is absolutely hilarious. That comment is the definition of hating. It might be hard to see that though, if you are wiping egg off of your face. Side note: I hope it wasn’t you that mocked MsClemon’s wife, as that would be truly sick.

      • Sephora Sucker says:

@BigP – It was Prime, posting under a pseudonym but from the same IP. Grant confirmed it.

      • BigP says:

        Sephora,
That sounds about right. That type of behavior has been going on for quite some time now, and they are repeat offenders. Remember the great Axel Foley? Latino Heat? The only thing creepier than the behavior itself is that they continue to come back after being called out and their posts deleted. It’s been a rough year for them.

    • Hoferfan67 says:

Good read. It was interesting that the new so called system (QBR) was flawed and now the folks that devised it have acknowledged there are holes in it as well that they will try to fix.

    • exgolfer says:

      Bay,

The passer rating system may not be perfect, but if the rating is so bad, how does it identify the best QB’s, year after year? And, no, I’m not saying it’s the only way to know which QB’s are the best.

  30. I.P. Daily says:

You didn’t have to go there on Alex, Grant. Totally classless…

    Translation: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

    Not at all. Called class…

Hey the Snap-on truck just pulled out and they were looking for you…

  31. bayareafanatic says:

Seriously can we all move forward? Anyone discussing AS versus CK at this point is in the wrong room. Grant, maybe you can start a grief counseling room. This is a football room. If you are here to talk about AS not getting a fair shake, or Harbaugh being dishonest, or anything related to that, move on or admit that your little itty bitty feelings are hurt. Either way, move on.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that two sides just don’t like eachother. So what. Move on.
    Lets talk football.
    1. Will Greg Roman and JH put together brilliant game plans to catch teams off guard in the playoffs?
    2. Will they finally figure out how to utilize Vernon again?
    3. Will Frank Gore return to his first half dominance?
    4. Will other receivers step up?
    5. Will RJF continue to step up? He played pretty well yesterday.
    6. Will Justin Smith be able to play at near a high level throughout the playoffs?
    7. Will GR figure out how to effectively utilize La Michael James? Screen anyone?
    8. Will Ted Ginn get his confidence back as a return man?
    9. Will David Akers still be our kicker at 5pm on January 12th?
    10. Will a superbowl appearance finally get us in this room to all get along?
    11. Will a superbowl appearance get the Smithers to finally compliment Kaep after nice plays and good games?

    • Hoferfan67 says:

I wouldn’t kick DA to the curb just yet. Anyone that is available has been through the same thing or they would be working. DA just needs to get his head straight. All kickers go through peaks and valleys and it’s just unfortunate the timing of his valley.

A SB win is all that matters (not an appearance). Many didn’t like SY until he won a SB even though he was league MVP twice. Once in the playoffs, it’s any teams game.

      • bayareafanatic says:

        Hofer,
DA isn’t even able to make chip shots anymore. He is emotionally lost. Did you not see Harbaugh’s presser? He’s gone. No chance of staying with him.
Harbaugh will do it with class though. He’ll put him on IR.

      • Neal says:

Ted Robinson who always supported David Akers, said this morning on the Murp show, it might be time for a change. Although he was not aware who might be available.

      • BigP says:

I heard Neil Rackers was available. He was a solid kicker for quite a few years. We just need somebody that can kick 30-40 yarders at this point. Hopefully they can pick up a long term solution in the draft.

      • Neal says:

Anybody named Neal is good with me, except he spells his name the more common way. Let’s give Longwell and Rackers a look, hopefully these guy have been practicing during the season and are in somewhat good shape. The Niners can’t afford another game with Fakers.

      • exgolfer says:

        Bay,

You are so funny. You say that a certain group has, “Itty bitty feelings,” and you’re surprised that they can’t move on. If you keep inciting those that still think Smith should be starting, why should they move on? You’re perpetuating this tire fire with your comments.

      • bayareafanatic says:

        Exgolfer,
everyone on here responded with a football question except for you. Quit being the lone douche and get with the program. Football buddy. football talk.
If you have a New Years resolution maybe it’s to be a better guy and less of a jerkoff….

    • bayareafanatic says:

By the way I want to compliment Rib. Yesterday he watched the game and cheered his ass off. Didn’t matter who was behind center. Rib you are a piece of work, but you are a true fan.

      • BigP says:

I’ll second that on Ribs. He is one of the few “Smithers” that has consistently been here on game days cheering for CK and the team. I respect that, a true fan of the team.

      • ninermd says:

True fan maybe? A jerk that thinks he’s funny and knows it all? Definitely. Lol

In all honesty I’d have to say he goes to games and is a true fan. It’s not easy swallowing crow and manning up in a place where he knows he’s going to get flack. But hey I did last season. And I didn’t care a single bit because the 9ers were finally winning. That’s all that truly matters to fans.

      • BigP says:

        MD,
        True dat brudda.
