USA Today is reporting Brandon Jacobs will file a grievance against the 49ers to get reinstated on the team or to to get released.
The 49ers suspended Jacobs Monday for the rest of the season, which means he would lose more than $167,000.
The 49ers did not give an official reason for suspending Jacobs, and at Jim Harbaugh’s Monday press conference he invoked the fifth amendment when asked if he was still a member of the team. He was suspended two hours later.

I hope this doesn’t come back to bite harbaugh….gore is just as old as jacobs. Jacobs has more career rushing tds than gore and has 2 rings. He is better short yardage runner than gore. Dixon isn’t the answer.
Jacobs wouldn’t be the one to replace Gore anyway. Jacobs is nothing but a short yardage FB. If Gore went down we’d have to find someone to replace him even if Jacobs was still on the team.
Hunter was the guy….I think James can be the one now if gore goes down. Id like to see James get more carries from here on out. Keep gore fresh with about 10 carries a game. I think james got 20 carries a game he could give us big plays

Dixon has been a scrub his entire career….yeah I know football. One decent run vs miami and you are sold on dixon now? Gtfo! We could of used jacobs in first half when gore got stuffed on 3rd and 1 and we had to settle for field goal. Jacobs can get first downs on short yardage. Gore had 58 yds on 23 carriers that same game vs Rams so don’t give me that bs about what jacobs did in that game. Jacobs hardly had a chance to show himself.
I’ll always remember him for those amazing 6 yards he earned with those 4 carries in the Rams game. What a total shock that the coaches didn’t want to reward that production with more playing time, right?

Dixon looked pretty good to me. He isn’t dancing around trying to show how fast he can move his feet. Big guys somehow think they have to prove they aren’t flat footed for some reason.
Dixon is more than an able RB if he runs with a purpose. Especially in short yardage plays.
Plus Dixon plays on special teams.

Have you ever watched the games when he was with New York. He is not in Gore’s league. He has had a bad attitude for years. W e will not miss him. How could we ,he was never good enough to get on the field.
He has 56 tds career rushing tds Giants all-time leader. Not in Gores league? Gore has 0 rings last time I checked Jacobs is a 2 time champion. He was our best rusher in preseason until got hurt. I’m not saying he is better than gore right now but he is def better than Anthony Dixon. I don’t care that dixon plays special teams he’s not a playmaker like Cj Spillman. Converting short yardage is more important.
Jscobs isnt in Gore’s league. Jacobs is good for one thing and one thing only, converting 3/4 and 1′s. Him as a RB is no where comparable to FG. If you think that you clearly dont know football.

If he just kept quiet from the beginning of the season, I have to think that he would have been in there a little more. That being said, it really was a numbers game and when you dont play on STs, then your not gonna suit up for every game.
Remember when he told Harbaugh that he doesn’t feel bad for him about the NFCCG and the non-call on the fumble by Bradshaw?

Well I’m guessing that the suspension will be for his actions that were considered detrimental to the team and the team image with his public disclosure of his unhappiness. I’m mostly certain that the CBA and the contracts that the players sign allow for the teams to suspend players for this very reason. If any of that is correct then good luck Jacobs in winning that appeal and even if he did they’ll just let him rot on the inactive list anyway.
What they should do is make him go play special teams.
The Bounty Saints just got off scot free, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Jacobs’ suspension is rescinded.
Interesting. I was wondering if the NFLPA would get involved. I don’t know the suspension rules and parameters. I think I heard the max number of games a team can suspend a player during one season was four games.
Going on Twitter and publicly airing out your gripes is not the way to go, obviously. Jacobs was not contributing so the Niners did what’s best for the Niners. I have no problem at all with that.
Just made me wonder what constitutes a one game suspension, and what do you have to do for a two or a three? Unless this one gets reduced, the precedent will be: Twitter = 3 games. DUI suspensions have been inconsistent and perhaps those are league directed not team directed. I don’t know.
At the end of the day, just pay him the three games. Make his pay contingent on him keeping his mouth and fingers quiet. Honor his contract and leave him off the 53. He messed up, went public, won’t play.
Heck, I don’t have problem with Jacob’ trying to get the money’s he feels is owed to him. More power to him.
The only thing that BJ did wrong was putting his complaint out in the open.
As a former starter it stands to reason that he wants to play.
Obviously, this just was not a good fit.

He would have gotten paid if he had kept his thoughts to himself. The minute he went public – and this is the second time this season he has done so – it becomes a team problem and he is getting what he deserves. It falls under conduct detrimental to the team and the Niners are well within their rights to take action.

Boobie dixon will never be Brandon Jacobs…. we are talking 4856 yds 56 tds 4.5 career avg. Dixon has a career 3.5 avg 381 yds 6 tds. he is a scrub. Harbaugh is a prisoner of the moment because the team won and dixon got a few nice runs vs miami. Id trust jacobs on 4th and 1 in a playoff game than boobie anyday.
Totally disagree. That is who Jacobs was, its not who he is now. You think Rathman, Roman, and Harbaugh are all wrong here? They see him take carries every single day in practice. I trust their judgement on this one. And BTW – in the playoffs on 4th and 1 I can assure you its Gore or Kaep taking the ball. And that’s how it should be.
Dixon does not have to be better than Jacobs was — he just has to be better than Jacobs is now. And it appears that the 49ers believe he is better than Jacobs is now.
Dixon brings much more to the table than Jacobs. Dixon is a great ST player and has the ability to convert 4 & 1′s. Jacobs proved he is a selfish player, everything is all about “me”.
Gore isn’t a good short yardage back…. if we are relying on him we are going to get stuffed more times than not. Even jacobs converted a first down in his limited carries vs rams on short yardage. 49ers need to improve in that area and I don’t trust gore or dixon but jacobs could of been that guy. I’m telling u there will be a time in patriots game this Sunday where its 3rd and 1 and gore gets stuffed. We will settle for a field goal. Our short yardage game needs to improve and jacobs should of been that guy.
Its really simple: They don’t want him on the 49ers and they don’t want him on a potential Playoff rival (hence don’t cut him). Therefore they suspend him. If he is not on a roster the final week of the season he cannot be added to a playoff teams roster.

BJ concerns me, he is a loose cannon, I can see it now, teams that will face the Niners, will call him for game plan information etc. He should be banned for life if that happens and they can prove it
Not condoning Jacobs tweets, but from what I can see he should win his grievance. All he did was speak his mind in a public forum. Unwise? Yes. Disruptive to team moral? Possibly. A violation so severe he loses six figures of salary? I just don’t see it.
49er management might (just might) have some leverage if they had some kind of contractual commitment specifically for Brandon limiting public comments.
I see Brandon winning this easily. The 49ers likely know this and just want him out of their hair, but not jumping to another playoff team.
With Andre Brown out and Bradshaw always hurt I wouldn’t be surprised if the Giants picked up Jacobs for insurance on David Wilson as the #2 rb come playoff time..
Not going to happen, the niners aren’t going to just release him. That’s the point of the suspension. He might get his money but he’s not playing this season for any team

Jacobs was brought in to replace Dixon. Dixon played his ass off in the preseason and help Jacob’s challenge off. Plus Jacob’s got dinged up. Baalke got Jacobs for a reason but that reason went away and he became expendable. His fault for not showing himself worthwhile in preseason and in practice. NFL & JH are all about “what have you done for me lately”. Pre 2012 stats don’t mean zip.
