Dolphins-49ers live blog: Fourth quarter

SAN FRANCISCO — This is the live blog for the fourth quarter of the 49ers Week 14 game against the Miami Dolphins. I’ll update this frequently with information and analysis from the press box.

3:11 Gore runs a draw up the middle for 19 yards. First and goal at the one yard line.

3:11 The 49ers line up in jumbo formation and Anthony Dixon runs it in for a touchdown. 20-6 49ers. The 49ers did not give up any sacks on that drive because Roman called a lot of zone reads and quick passes. That was the first good drive he’s called in a quite some time.

3:17 On the Dolphins first play of the drive, Tannehill hits Bess on the right sideline for eight yards. The 49ers are challenging the play, saying Bess’ foot was out of bounds. They lose the challenge and their last timeout.

3:21 Tarell Brown is flagged for illegal contact, and then on the next play Tannehill steps up  in the pocket, jukes Goldson and picks up 20 yards. First and 10 at the SF 40.

3:22 Tannehill throws deep to Hartline in the end zone. He’s being covered one-on-one by Chris Culliver, and he knocks the pass away. Beautiful play. He’s unquestionably the 49ers best cornerback.

3:23 On third and eight, Pouncey puts Goldson on his back and Bush gains nine yards on a screen pass.

3:25 Bush gains two yards on first down, four yards on second down and 17 yards on third and three. First and goal at the six.

3:26 Daniel Thomas picks up two yards on first and goal and one yard on second and goal. Third and goal from the three.

3:27 The Dolphins call a sprint right option, and Tannehill throws the ball away. They’re going for it on fourth and goal.

3:28 Tannehill throws it up to Fasano in the back corner of the end zone. He makes a sprawling, diving catch and gets one knee in bounds. 20-13 49ers with 7:55 left in the game.

3:35 Another bad series for Greg Roman. The 49ers offense goes three and out. Crabtree gains five yards on a wide receiver screen on first down. James gains nothing on a pitch sweep to the left on second down. And Roman calls a short pass to Crabtree on third and five which only gains three yards. The 49ers punt. Dolphins ball at their 38 yard line down seven with 5:35 left in the fourth quarter.

3:41 Aldon Smith is flagged for a neutral zone infraction on first down. The Dolphins move the ball to the 50 and then Fangio calls back-to-back blitzes. On the second blitz, Bowman hits Tannehill in the head and is flagged 15 yards. First and 10 at the SF 35 yard line.

3:43 Tannehill overthrows a deep pass on first down, and then throws the ball away on second down before Aldon Smith can sack him. Third and 10. Two bad play calls by the Dolphins.

3:44 The Dolphins call timeout before Jonathan Martin false starts.

3:44 The Dolphins should call a quick slant pass on third and ten. It has worked for them all game. Even if they don’t get 10 yards, they should get to fourth and short with a slant pass.

3:45 The Dolphins call another deep pass. Dumb. Tannehill overthrows it. Now they have to convert a fourth-and-ten.

3:46 Tannehill overthrows another deep pass. Four terrible play calls in a row by Mike Sherman. The Dolphins were moving the ball with runs and short passes, and they had plenty of time. They got to midfield and started throwing deep for no reason.

3:52 On third and six, Kaepernick lines up in the pistol. He fakes the handoff and runs around the left end for a 50-yard TD run. 27-13 49ers. I’m running down to the locker room. Back at you soon.

  3. Hoferfan67 says:

It just seems the runs work, but they don’t know what to do with the pass.

  4. Fesnyc says:

    Vintage Frank

  5. steelematic says:

  6. IntelligentAj says:

    Let’s go again Frank!!

  7. 49er42 says:

Um didn’t someone say a few weeks ago there are 24 running backs better than Gore?
    I don’t think so.

  8. DS94everXev says:

    Gore is GREAT!

  9. Jacktoo says:

Nice to see A. Dixon doing well

  10. Jeff from Colfax says:

Say goodbye to TO’s and challenges.

  11. shawnrhod says:

there goes last time out and challenge. WTF… why????

  12. big niner says:

That last drive was set up by the flea flicker. It took the top off.

  13. IntelligentAj says:

Why challenge this play? What does this get us right now? Why not save it for later?

  14. Jeff from Colfax says:

    Is that Harbuagh or Singltary

  15. Grimey9er says:

Bad challenge. Even if he wins it all he gets is 8 yards.

  16. ribico says:

OK Walker, no more confusion on where to line up, right?

  17. DS94everXev says:

Stupid challenge. NO Timeouts or challenges left. That wasn’t worth it.

  18. Jacktoo says:

Delighted that Brandon Jacobs is not playing

  19. Hoferfan67 says:

Penalties are on JH. Way too many.

  20. Adam says:

Aldon Smith just had a s__t eating grin on his face. Hope it didn’t mean anything.

  21. Crab15 says:

If not for VD and Moss drops Kap would have only 1 or 2 incomplete passes all day and an extra 60 yards passing.

  22. BigP says:

    Great play by Culliver.

  23. big niner says:

    culliver!!!!

  24. Sycophantick Romantick says:

T Brown is decent, definitely our #2 CB. Rogers is done.

  25. Crab15 says:

    Nice play Culliver!

  26. NinerNation says:

Great technique on defense there Culliver

  27. Adam says:

Tannehill is going to be a good QB.

  28. Nick says:

    Bush is killing us

  29. Jeff from Colfax says:

We can’t beat anybody by more than 7 points

  30. big niner says:

    hold them D!!

  31. Ken says:

    Safties Crackin…

  32. big niner says:

    out of bounds

  33. Jeff from Colfax says:

Looking like last week all over again

  34. NinerNation says:

Good coverage by our defense but a even better catch by Fasano. wow.

  35. Adam707 says:

    Fasano embarrasses Whitner. Jeez

  36. Coffee's for closers says:

Ken Whisenhunt will absolutely be fired this year, in fact he’ll be lucky to still have his job by the start of the 4th quarter today.

    • NinerNation says:

      Coffee,

Might we see Andy Reid in Arizona next year? Andy loves to throw the ball and they have some very good recievers. It would be a reunion with Kolb as well.

  37. msclemons67 says:

Just a great catch by Fasano. Can’t defend that.

    • angusinCanada says:

Yep. Incredible catch. That’s certainly not on Whitner. Fasano just made a great play. Nailbiting time now.

  38. Ken says:

Whish we would throw to our tight ends… 85 please…

  39. Jacktoo says:

Let’s not go into a shell and think we can just run out the time – please

  40. big niner says:

Let’s hope GRo doesn’t shrink here.

  41. Foamingatdamouth says:

Bad call, he didn’t get his second foot in. The refs are calling a subpar game. Finish the job offense.

  42. DS94everXev says:

We need a long time consuming drive now and put up at least a field goal.

Where is VD? I thought it was the failure of AS to get him the ball.

  43. bayareafanatic says:

    Defense looked Terrible that drive

    • msclemons67 says:

      Yup. Playing soft.

Tannehill is getting the ball out quick – the DBs need to play tighter.

  44. ribico says:

Nice drive for points. We need….

  45. Sycophantick Romantick says:

Lets see if Roman takes a ginormous crap on this drive or makes a statement! Get that man some Adderall!

  46. 49er42 says:

Don’t get too conservative. Try to score at least a fieldgoal.

  47. Me says:

What are te chances for a delay if game penalty this drive? Let’s see if Kaep can lead us to points. Doubt it.

  48. pete4mtx says:

    3rd down coming up

  49. big niner says:

bad play calling… what about running a counter flow play on that toss?

  50. Jeff from Colfax says:

What do you know, a punt. Surprising.

  51. Sycophantick Romantick says:

    Ginormous crap

  52. pete4mtx says:

    Ahhhhhhhhhh punt

  53. bayareafanatic says:

    Very AS like there

  54. big niner says:

    GRO.. go home!!!

  55. Ken says:

Boy we sure know how to move the chains when we need it..

  56. msclemons67 says:

CK7 looks about the same as Alex. 3 yard pass on 3rd and 5.

  57. steelematic says:

This crap looks like alex smith led drives. maybe its been play calling all along

  58. Jeff from Colfax says:

This is getting hard to watch

  59. Me says:

    Shocker.

  60. Adam says:

Here’s an idea. Maybe the receivers should know where the damned sticks are! Come on!

  61. Nick says:

The Dolphins have had great field position all 2nd half

  62. big niner says:

any team should be able to run a 5 yard out…smh

  63. Adam707 says:

Kaep a 2 yard pass on 3rd and 5. Doing his best Alex Smith impression. Jeez the offense is bad. Thought the offense would incline with Kaep as the leader. But all we have done is go down hill. No denying that our offense has been BAD!!

  64. Prime Time says:

Do I hear boo birds at the Stick?

  65. IntelligentAj says:

Why not call a run play when it’s been working for second half? I agree with the trust in CK but run the damn ball. And not a pitch either

  66. Jeff from Colfax says:

Is it me or does it feel like every week goes to overtime

  67. pete4mtx says:

What’s the common denominator here with the QB controversy
    GREG ROMAN!!!
Or it could be Jimmy raye in disguise

  68. 49er42 says:

I hope we don’t blow this game because the coaches won’t dare to be great.

  69. Hoferfan67 says:

    Wow nice camera shots.

  70. big niner says:

where are the blitzes up th middle?

  71. NinerNation says:

    Seattle beating Arizona 48-0. lmao

  72. big niner says:

    about time..

  73. east coast niner fan says:

dont look now they can tie it with this drive. all those complaints early bout smiths stat line, kap on pace for a little under that. wheres the complaints!!!

  74. Hoferfan67 says:

    More penalties…

  75. The Grinch says:

Wow Im a kap supporter but he looks like alex Smiths twin…Wheres vernon Davis?

  76. Jeff from Colfax says:

    Overtime. Geez.

  77. MontanaMan16 says:

Do I smell OT again? The next 2 weeks we play good teams! Sigh!

  78. big niner says:

    bs ruffing call

  79. Adam says:

    Bowman gets another fine.

  80. Hoferfan67 says:

    Seattle is surging

  81. NinerNation says:

Bad penalty call. What could he do? He hit him with his chest.

  82. Jeff from Colfax says:

Start Smith next week. My god!

    • MontanaMan16 says:

They made the bed and now they got to sleep in it. You put AS in next week and we lose on the road at NE and then what. Our team will be in more turmoil than it is right now!

  83. Jeff from Colfax says:

So much for the hot hand

  84. NinerNation says:

Look at the aggressive play call there by Miami trying to go deep after the penalty by us.

  85. Nick says:

    Big time play here

  86. Adam says:

Hot cheerleader made a nice snag there.

  87. Coffee's for closers says:

Here’s a cold hard fact; we’re not going to the Super Bowl if we cant score more then 20 points against the Dolphins.

  88. Me says:

The whole team has played lousy since the Bear’s game. What happened after that? A guy lost his job due to injury. Good job coach. Think those two things are related?

    • DS94everXev says:

      The D has played great.

The allowed 21 against the Saints and scored 14 of their own. Then they shut out the Rams for 59:30 and they limit Miami to 3 first half points.

This game should have been over at halftime. Just like the last one. The difference is we were at home today and that helped. If our offense plays like we have the past two weeks, we’ll come back with 2 losses over the next two weeks.

      • Prime Time says:

Don’t worry DS. SEA will be the true test. JH witnessed today that he has a running QB and will now tailor the game plan exclusively to this. Forget about Vernon Davis and any TE being a focal point of the offense. Your gonna see more Gore and LMJ and some quick slants to Crabtree. After that it will get exploited.

  89. east coast niner fan says:

at this rate we wont make the playoffs. seattle is going to beat us at there place if we keep playing like this.and the pats please .

  90. DS94everXev says:

    Come on D!

  91. Nick says:

    What nonesense is that?

  92. Jeff from Colfax says:

    Here comes a penalty

  93. Adam says:

    Rookie mistake there.

  94. Jeff from Colfax says:

    So glad to be wrong

  95. matt says:

Here’s my thought on all the negativity. At this point in the season the games still mean something. That’s something we couldn’t say 7 years ago. I’m stoked the team is a contender. A super bowl would be awesome but I’m still happy the team is a playoff team.

  96. Fesnyc says:

    Solid pass D

  97. SadPanda says:

This team doesn’t look like a SB contender to me anymore. And I’m just nothing but Sad.

  98. NinerNation says:

Seattle crushing Arizona 51-0. Arizona has 8 turnovers!

  99. domingo says:

    Ball Game!

  100. ribico says:

    No 3 and out. Please.

  101. Me says:

Here comes another three and out by crap, ah mean Kaep.

  102. pete4mtx says:

    C Mon offense..don’t punt again

  103. Hoferfan67 says:

The 9ers have 260 total yds. Maybe they crack 300?

  104. The Grinch says:

Were losing this division to Seattle…Book it.

  105. Adam says:

    Seattle, 51? Good Lord.

  106. msclemons67 says:

LMJ’s blitz pickup isn’t very good but he sure does have some wheels.

  107. Big Suede says:

    EAT IT SMITH LOVERS!

  108. Adam says:

Stupid call. Get the QB knocked out.

    • msclemons67 says:

Wah wah wah. Why isn’t my Precious playing?

      • Adam says:

        Who is your precious?

      • msclemons67 says:

Your Precious sat on the bench while his replacement won the game.

      • Adam says:

WTF is your deal today? You’re being a PR_CK.

I rooted for the Niners when Scott Bull was the damned QB. There is no PRECIOUS with me, pal.

Running your QB inside gets him hurt. Had nothing to do with whoever your “PRECIOUS” is.

      • I missed the toilet and Kaepped all over the place says:

The only Precious I want is the one coming the 14th of December, Soggy arm smith is going out to the trash and Kaep will be following soon with his shifty feet scrambling ways, Kaep will not be a starting QB on the 49ers for 5 years. That is my prediction.

    • BigP says:

I don’t like sending any QB inside, they meet up with the thumpers. He was fortunate to not get hurt there.

  109. BigP says:

CK for the TD. All good.

  110. ribico says:

    That’s the legs! Whew.

  111. Fesnyc says:

    Oh ye of little faith

  112. big niner says:

And there folks is why AS won’t see the field again!!!!!

  113. msclemons67 says:

    Kaepernick!

    That finishes the game.

  114. domingo says:

    Explosive play!

  115. bayareafanatic says:

CK said that was for BS

  116. domingo says:

Kap’s the play and the game off nicely!

  117. Foamingatdamouth says:

There’s the dagger from our “running” qb!

  118. IntelligentAj says:

    Let’s go Kap!!!!

  119. SadPanda says:

    Thank you Kap!

  120. Adam says:

RG IV just wrecked my prediction. :p

  121. Me says:

We found our runningback of the future!!

  122. Crab15 says:

    RooooooobbbbooooooooKKKKAAAAPPPPPP!!!!!!!!! TD!!!!

  123. DS94everXev says:

    Nail bitter blows wide open.

    We’ll win now!

    • Jack Hammer says:

      Shut up DS.

      • DS94everXev says:

        You shut up Jack

If you think allowing a losing team to come into our house and think they can still win the game with less than 5 minutes left to go is a great game and as it should be…more power to you.

But I am in America and I WILL express my opinion. You can bite me for all I care.

    • msclemons67 says:

Don’t even pretend to be a 49er fan now Dildo Smither.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

        Clem, over the top period.

      • NinerNation says:

After the nasty things you have said to other posters & the way you’ve acted the last 4 weeks you have no creditably Hofer. Zero…..

      • DS94everXev says:

What is it with you haters and sexual posts directed my way?

        Tell me.

      • bayareafanatic says:

        Zero

      • msclemons67 says:

@Hofer this pile of crap wished my wife would die and I’m over the top?

Get real. You Alex fans are like some sort of cult. The 49ers will be better off once he’s somewhere else.

      • Hoferfan67 says:

Clem, I was only talking about your comment and the 5 letter word that stats with d and ends with o. Drama is not my world. Talk football and I’m with you.

      • SadPanda says:

Seiously… PLEASE stop with this “Smither” crap. I love both QB’s and I find every single comment you make insulting as a fan. I for one do not think you can be a true fan if you hate our last QB so much.
You are childish in your remarks… please please stop.

      • msclemons67 says:

@SadPanda “seriously, please” just post on your normal account. The “I’m a girl” nonsense is just as silly as (D)ildo (S)mither’s attempt to get attention.

    • steelematic says:

That wasnt a nailbiter… Our D was never in doubt. Niami made great catches. Our playbook is still shot but we scored those TD’S u wanted

    • bayareafanatic says:

BS they have chat rooms you can go to to discuss your “feelings” fir AS. But this is a 49er football room.

    • Chicago49er says:

Man this is getting so boring! This is a 49er blog please lets just support our team regardless of who is the QB! GO NINRS

YOu are a hater if you keep talking bs and blame the QBs for all the issues on the field

  124. Jack Hammer says:

There’s your damn explosive play! Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

    • big niner says:

      puff puff give.

    • NinerNation says:

Alex coud never do…..ah nevermind :p

Nail in the coffin haters. Solid win today but definte needs of improvement on offense needed. Pass protection, WR’s catcthing perfectly thrown TD bombs, Kap hitting that pass to Crabs in the red zone, Kap getting the plays run quicker etc…

      • SadPanda says:

Why do you call anyone who supported Alex a hater? It seems you are the one with Hate in your heart. I love this team and have for a long time. I supported every QB we’ve ever had including Alex. I was very proud of his comeback under Harbaugh and was loving the Cinderella story of it all. And yes I was even hopeful Alex could get to the SB.

Now JH has gone another way… it has made me nervous as I believe in Kap but believe he may have been thrown out there too soon…. but dang it I love this team and want Kap to suceed. Why can’t I love both QB’s. Why do i have to hate one and love the other? Why can’t I root for Kap and feel bad for Alex at the same time.

I think that makes me a Team Lover NOT a Hater. Course I’m just a “chick” so I’m sure I approach these things from a much more maternal perspective but in the end both those guys are wearing our 9er colors and I love them both.

      • ribico says:

        +1

        Well said, Panda.

    • Prime Time says:

If that performance was an indication of anything today, we are in trouble!

      • Jack Hammer says:

Get the f–k out of here Prime. They won the game and you can’t help but bitch. But then you are what you do.

      • Sycophantick Romantick says:

Did someone turn Jack Hammer’s switch from “Off” to “On”?

Jack is normally such a pleasant guy with Prime and DSLips.

        Curious…

      • DS94everXev says:

        Houston

Get over your double Identity. You suck. Why don’t you throw another autistic comment out there. Show your intellect.

      • Sycophantick Romantick says:

        DSLips

Why are you mad? Go interact with your Quark…

      • DS94everXev says:

        Siko

Go on. I know you want to. Make an autistic joke. The whole blog and world will laugh with you.

        Ass hole

      • Jack Hammer says:

        Syco,

We have a nice bounce back win, and all some want to to is whine about style points! These are the same guys that would be doing backflips right now if 11 had been playing…

      • msclemons67 says:

The Smithers sure are upset about a 49ers’ win.

      • Sycophantick Romantick says:

Not a joking matter. Never funny. But evident beyond belief and undeniable in your case. Nothing to be ashamed of, but it gets annoying for other posters who want to talk about more than a single topic.

      • Sycophantick Romantick says:

I know, Jack. Remember this feeling and let’s ice them out next week. Rib is being cool, because he’s a real fan. These are the days that separate the Niners fans from the Smithers.

      • DS94everXev says:

Go on. Do it houston/sick freak.

Make fun of autistic people. It’s all in good fun.

        Jerk.

      • Jack Hammer says:

Yes Syco, Rib is cool. He puts his love for the team ahead of one player. You gotta respect that.

      • Sycophantick Romantick says:

        DSLips

Not by any means. Would never make it a joke. You are a joke, but your disease is not. Don’t try to put me in that box.

      • DS94everXev says:

But you brought it up. So it is your fault. Who brings up autism as a sicko joke/comment on a football blog?

You sick disgusting freak! Get the hell out of here!!!!

      • Sycophantick Romantick says:

        DSLips

Truth will out. And in your case, the truth became clear to all this week. Stay positive.

      • ribico says:

        >>He puts his love for the team ahead of one player.

Lol. I’ve been rooting for and going to Niner games since before Alex Smith was born. Maybe if only I would have known the reason why.

    • Hoferfan67 says:

Running QBs score running tds. He saved GRs @$$ today.

    • AES* says:

Ahhhh Kaep haters, taste the gobble, gobble.

CK needed to get a win. Mission accomplished!
LMJ needed to get in some playing time. Mission accomplished!
      Aldon was Aldon.
      Gore was Gore (warrior).

Going after the Pats next week!

    • Coffee's for closers says:

Wow, one big run play nearly at the end of the game while we already have a lead. Gee and I was totally wrong about him. By the way how many TD’s passes is he going to throw versus running and how long will that continue to last?

      • Jack Hammer says:

        Hey Coffee,

Kaep now has a .750 win percentage, same as Smith. Good stuff!

      • DS94everXev says:

        Jack

Shut up. See what he does against winning teams. He’s played 3 straight against teams with losing records. And the Bears lost to Seattle last week and again this week to the Vikings. So, they don’t look to be quite the dominant team they seemed when we beat them.

      • Jack Hammer says:

.750 DS! WHEEEW! How does that taste?

      • msclemons67 says:

The bitter Smithers are trying to figure out which team they’ll follow next year.

A dude starting his 4th game did better than an eight year pro. Kind of sad if you think about it.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

Over a smaller sample of games Jack. It’s like pimping a QB with a perfect rating who’s thrown 12 passes in his career.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

Let’s check his record after the next two games and continue then discussion.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

Is the QB with a .750 record after playing 8 games the same as the guy with a .750 record who’s played 5? If he’s .750 or better after a comparable amount of games then I’ll have no point to make.

      • Jack Hammer says:

You are the one who brought up the winning percentage comparison yesterday Coffee. Now that it doesn’t work for your argument you want to ditch it? LoL.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

Jack c’mon now. What is easier to do, have a higher percentage with a smaller sample or a larger one when talking about win percentage? Alex having played 8 games already with a .750 win percentage carries more weight then Colin having a .750 percentage with less games.

I brought up win percentage simply to show that we already had a winning QB and there was no need to make a switch.

  125. Giant Fan says:

Alex Smith has a good fake smile.

  126. MontanaMan16 says:

There’s that wow play we been waiting all game for! Good run!

  127. Crab15 says:

Coffee is for closers! Kap closed the deal! That’s how you finish!!

    • big niner says:

      I prefer tea coffee….lol

    • Coffee's for closers says:

Oh yea, Kaep is totally responsible for that win. Gimme a break!

      • JDilla says:

you’re gonna get called a smither for speaking your mind. is this russia?

      • msclemons67 says:

Nope jdilla. You’re perfectly free to root for whatever team Smith plays for next year.

      • Jack Hammer says:

Of course he’s not totally responsible Coffee. The running game was very good in the second half after being put on the back burner in the first.

Gore, James, Crab, Moss, Walker, and CK all had a good game today.

      • JDilla says:

lol msc you crack me up man. you can’t even enjoy the win because your too busy looking for people to call a smither. it seems you enjoy that more than a W.

      • Crab15 says:

Coffee – That post was in support of you, not mocking you. You took it wrong. Kap was a part of that victory. Team win all the way Coffee.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

My bad, sorry for the misunderstanding. Had a little to much venom flowing when I read it.

  128. Big Suede says:

Now why Roman doesn’t call that play for Kaep to run EVERY 3rd and short- i dont know.

  129. Nick says:

If the Niners get the ball back, let Alex Smith clean it up

  130. Crab15 says:

23J must be doing cartwheels at the stick!

    • 23Jordan says:

Crabs, I was pissed for a minute bro. RoboKap started looking for that checkdown a big too much. He was getting rid of the ball short, even thougb he had time. Be made up for it though. Tbat pistol is potent Crabs. Moss dropped the bomb though!

  131. Neal says:

Thank goodness we have now a passing and running QB. woo hoo

    • ribico says:

      Now?

I seem to emember a non-running QB taking it to the house last years playoffs.

Ck’s going to be ok, he doesn’t need BS puffing up from the likes of you.

  132. Hoferfan67 says:

It met my win by 14 prediction!!!

  133. big niner says:

Boy My Aldon smith jersey looks nice…

  134. tkamB says:

Good win. Lets take down the Pats next week and lock up this division.

  135. Grimey9er says:

    victory formation

  136. msclemons67 says:

Brees has turned into Alex Smith without Payton on the sideline. He’s almost as bad as Rivers this year.

  137. Ken says:

Nice win… Ugly O… We better improve for next weeks match up…

  138. Big Suede says:

It troubles me that CK is putting up Alex Smith numbers. 78% completion rate while throwing less than 200 yards is pathetic.

Roman needs to feel some heat this week.

The niners need screens- they need to stop being so predictable on second down (if 1st down was a pass- 2nd will be a run, or if 1st is a run 2nd will be pass) The playcalls are not fooling anyone.

And run Kaep to the outside when the opposing defense clogs up the middle .

    • msclemons67 says:

It is troubling that the guy starting his 4th game is doing just the same as the guy who has been getting benched for 8 years.

    • big niner says:

They don’t know how to run screen plays. GRO is a horrible play caller.

      • Big Suede says:

Well Gore’s screen reception today looked pretty sweet. They do well on the slants, i just dont understand why the screen isnt called more.

Hope the niners are more aggressive with the patriots

    • BigP says:

He hit Moss on that deep route with a perfect pass, no PI was called. He made the play, the ref missed the call. That would have been a TD.

      • Big Suede says:

Very true- that was a fun call. I have never seen so many deep footballs bounce off of hands before with Kaep’s last few games

  139. Hoferfan67 says:

Still no passing TDs. Must be GRs issue??!!

  140. Jack Hammer says:

Great job by Roman to go back to their bread and butter running game in the second half to the tune of 21 points.

  141. tkamB says:

Aldon Smith 3.5 sacks from breaking Strahan’s record too, good day all around

  142. domingo says:

Wasn’t that a helmet to helmet that Kap took on the play before his long TD run? Hope there’s no concussion.

  143. Brotha Tuna says:

I liked LMJ today. Good start.

  144. DS94everXev says:

We MUST get on teams early. We can’t keep going thru halfs scoring 7, 6 points. These were two teams who were losing teams. We need to put them away early and sail thru the 2nd half.

    • 23Jordan says:

      BS,

Yeah like we used to do with your boy on the bench. He looked great on the sidine. You wouldve been proud!

    • Crab15 says:

DS – If I was Grant I’d ban you forever! Everyone in here knows your not a Niner fan now…..Get lost! 99.9% of the blog will want you gone now. You blew it! Anybody who supports you now should be banned too. Anyone who is sad when Niners lose should not be here.
Your done. I will haunt you forever now if you stay. Forever.

      • ninermd says:

Bs has turned into onelame from 2009-2010. Hateful and bagging the team and qb because smith lost his job. If love to have seen its face when ck put the icing on the cake.

      • Neal says:

Crab way to go with DS. She is not a Niner fan, hates the Coach and Kaep, wants the Niners to lose, is just a one trick pony with AS, she is flawed like AS is. I would banned her for life.

      • ribico says:

Carb, so anyone who was ever critical of a starting player, including the starting QB, is banworthy now?

        whooosh… tumbleweeds.

      • Crab15 says:

rib- Anyone who wants Niners to lose should be banned, being critical of QB (when justified is fine).
BTW, what happened to Knicks yesterday. I was bummed Melo sat out again. Shumpert will be back in Jan and Amare near Christmas. I’ve been a fan 35 years rib. How about White? I didn’t know he could shoot that well.
        Go Niners!

      • ribico says:

Crabs, show me where DS or anyone else is “rooting” for a Niners loss. Unless you are talking about Jordo and his bets against the Niners last year’s playoffs.

Griping about the performance of who’s on the field =! hoping for a loss.

      • Oops I Kaepped myself says:

Sounds like someone is a little Crabby. There are plenty of times I would rather have a niners loss if certain conditions were met, for instance benching Joe montana the game he was injured and taking a loss, benching steve young on his last concussion and he doesnt get injured. Benching Garission Hearst on any of his near career enders, and benching any player that has gotten worn down and taking a loss instead of getting a critical injury. If doing that causes a loss Im all for being good for a long time than injuring all my players and winning a superbowl.

      • Adam says:

Am I missing something? Who’s rooting for the team to lose?

      • Txtree49er says:

        @ Adam

Same old thing as every week….

  145. JDilla says:

Keep the W’s rolling in yesir. However, I doubt the Patriots are even remotely scared of our offense.

  146. oldcoach says:

Before he was injured\benched I felt AS was playing good not great which after 4 games is exactly how i feel about CK. I’m begining to believe that our QB play is more a product of the system and less about their individual abilities

  147. NinerNation says:

Seattle beating the dogsh*t out of Arizona. Just scored again to go up 58-0. Jesus Christ….

    • DS94everXev says:

Our best hope is that Seattle has scored all their points for the next few games in this one game.

Remember the Saints last year scoring like 60+? The next week they lost to the Bucs I believe and didn’t score anything near 60 looking horrible the whole time.

    • Coffee's for closers says:

Whisenhunt should be forced to buy his own plane ticket home, especially since he’s not going to be a member of the team much longer anyway.

    • msclemons67 says:

So a rookie QB is doing great against the “elite” defense of the Cardinals?

One more excuse down the toilet.

  148. Sycophantick Romantick says:

Next week is going to be a totally different experience from this game. The coaches will dial up aggressive plays from the beginning, try to get a nice lead, and then get after Brady from the end positions.

When the Niners expect a rather docile opponent, their game planning is adjusted to minimize risk, which leads to games like today, where the impression given that our offense is less potent than it actually is.

Expect big things from Moss next week, and to see LaMike getting his touches in the screen game, then steady Gore in the second half.

    • MontanaMan16 says:

Our Defense is going to have to play well! Rogers will have problems with Welker. They will take that all day long. Goldson coming up and delivering one of his signature hits is what we’ll need. Take Welker out! Not to sound like Williams! We do need to get a lead tho cuz they will stick to their run game and it can be effective. We need to make them one-dimensional and then send the rush!

Our O is going to have to eliminate the mistakes. ie, penalties, time outs, and all the other things that are stalling our drives. In other words, we need to play better than we did today! 4 times in the red zone and one of them was from a turnover, isn’t enough times in the red zone!

  149. Brotha Tuna says:

OK. This blog’s victory party is kinda negative this afternoon. Catch y’all later.

    • ribico says:

Hell, it was negative when we killed the Jets 34-0. That’s the nature of fans. Always looking at the downside… until the team wins it all.

  150. JDilla says:

Culliver has some nba hops. That play in the endzone when he broke up that touchdown pass was beautiful.

    • msclemons67 says:

Culliver is starting to look like a starter. I’m guessing he’ll take Brown or Roger’s job next year.

      • JDilla says:

hopefully it’s rogers. what was rogers doing on that pass play early on in the 1st quarter when he just stood there not moving and hartline blew by.

  151. Coffee's for closers says:

Colin had a clean game again. I’d sure like to see more use of the arm and it would be even better if the receivers could actually catch it when we do. Yes Moss’s arm was being held but that ball hit his hands and should have been a TD. Overall the offense still doesn’t look any different to me with Colin vs Alex so I’ll continue to say that we shouldn’t have changed QB’s until next season but either way a win is a win and I’m always happy with that.

I’d like to see Kaepernick make some better audibles. The times that it sounded like he changed the play rarely did it appear to have much success. I don’t mean switching to the second play he’s given but actually changing to a completely different play. Plus he’s got to get a better idea of how much time it takes to makes those changes because we cant continue to use timeouts because Colin is taking to long to get the play off. Looked Delanie was the culprit one of those times but this has been an issue since Coin took over.

We still have to find a way to score more TD’s or this is going to a another short trip into the tournament.

    • Greg says:

I am not sure either QB will be much different with Greg Roman as OC. He doesn’t know how to use the weapons he has. Yet another week when we had great difficulty in putting away a bad team. Kaepernick was good, the running game was good, yet we couldn’t put points on the board until late. Roman cripples this offense, I hope a college hires him so we don’t have to watch his atrocious play calling anymore.

      • MontanaMan16 says:

And then JH will insert the next OC and we’ll be exactly the same! It will be then that Grant blogs that this is JH’s offense! LOL

    • Coffee's for closers says:

      Greg = Grant?

      heheh j/k

  152. pete4mtx says:

That throw to moss was a beautiful pass…too bad it was dropped…

  153. ninermd says:

Lamichael James looked fast today. Looked solid. The o line looked terrible again. And the penalties are killing drives and keeping opposing offenses stay on the field. Got to clean those up. The recievers weren’t open today. Except MC. Manningham was missed today. Solid win over a good defense and running game.

    • msclemons67 says:

LMJ surprised me with his toughness. He broke some tackles on his runs. Good stuff.

      • MontanaMan16 says:

I watch a lot of film on LMJ last night. Was surprised how many times he delivered the punishment! There’s a great video of him on “The Bleacher Report”

  154. LordKingler says:

Like I said when the old Kaep attack started, we were getting Randall cunningham. Lo and behold elite scrambler. No passing touchdowns, rushing up a storm.

  155. msclemons67 says:

Tannehill was impressive. He mostly got rid of the ball quickly before the pass rush could get to him.

  156. oldcoach says:

Grant if you have a chance tomorrow could you ask Harbaugh Why Kap seems to be getting the team out of the huddle much later on the game clock then they were before the QB change? Is it a problem of getting the play in late from the sideline or a problem with kap. I believe that we wasted TO’s and it limits the ability of the QB to audible

  157. Slurpy all over my soggy sack says:

So Im confused, why did we bench Alex Smith for Colin Kaepernick, the numbers are pretty much the same, whats the difference…

    • Jack Hammer says:

The difference is that although Smith has started 60+ games in his career and 20+ in this system he is not better than Kaep who has started a total of 4 games.

It is safe to say 7′s ceiling is higher, and will give you improved play as he gets more playing time.

      • oldcoach says:

Jack i like you believe CK has a higher ceiling but I think the system may be hindering his improvement and I believe the system had begin to hinder Smith this year also

      • ribico says:

Even if the ceilings are the same, if the rest of the team can make plays when it’s counted, like they did today, like they have the last two seasons, it’s a wash.

So why not go with the cheaper guy, eh bean counters?

    • Coffee's for closers says:

Clearly if they achieve the same thing the coach figures it’s better to go with the guy who potentially has more upside. I agree with the thinking but I don’t agree with testing the theory in the middle of a super bowl run season.

      • Slurpy all over my soggy sack says:

Yep this gamble is only worth it if the old Kaepzilla goes to the superbowl if not he stunk up the house and should be tossed out like the trash he is

      • Grimey9er says:

You are a soggy sack slurper aren’t you

      • ribico says:

        >>I don’t agree with testing the theory in the middle of a super bowl run season.

Harbaugh does things his way, certainly against the conventional grain at times. If this works out, another coach of the year honors. If not… then the rallying cry of fans far and wide – next year.

  158. Coffee's for closers says:

What was up with Terrell Brown today? Let’s hope it was simply a bad game.

    • msclemons67 says:

One of those calls was a blatantly bad play by Brown. The other one was questionable.

Either way… Brown is a guy who might be replaced this offseason.

    • TIM says:

Brown sat out or was restricted in all the practices this week because of a knee injury. Cut him some slack,he has been very good all season long .

      • Coffee's for closers says:

        “Cut him some slack”

This isn’t the playground. These men are being paid to perform and they only have to do it 16 times a year, hopefully a bit more. No such thing as cutting slack in the NFL.

      • msclemons67 says:

I didn’t realize Brown was injured.

But like Coffee said, you can’t make excuses for a guy who is being paid millions of dollars to perform.

      • msclemons67 says:

Unless the guy is named “Alex” of course.

      • TIM says:

I wasn’t making excuses for Brown, just letting you know that he is playing on a bum knee, and playing well.If Brown didn’t tough it out and play,I hate to think what our DB’s would have looked like today.

      • ribico says:

Jesus clemons, I’ll be glad when the 49ers cut ties with Smith. If only to end your idiotic assinine rambling about him.

      • msclemons67 says:

Aw, Rib. After 8 year of excuses I can’t make a few weeks worth of jokes?

      • ribico says:

Sure, if it makes you feel the big big man. Does it?

      • Neal says:

Really Coffee, you related to DS? . The guy is a human being, not a robot, so what if you gets paid alot of money, if he is hurt , he is hurt. That got to be the dumbest thing I ever heard on here, next to BS Rants. Perhaps some decaf coffee is in oder for you.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

We’re not related but we are best friends though. he’s sitting right here on his laptop and we’re bouncing ideas off each other of what to post next.

If he’s hurt then he shouldn’t be playing and he’s selfishly risking the teams record by trying to play if he is. If he isn’t hurt then he stunk it up today and there is no excuse either way.

      • Neal says:

        Coffee,

So are you sayimg that DS made that brilliant comment?

      • Coffee's for closers says:

        Sure, why not.

  159. Razoreater says:

Nothing like a victory to warm the soul on a damp and cold Sunday evening here in South Bend, IN. Good job 49ers! Now lets get some things cleaned up. Did I see Mr. Jacobs, Aka “the Janitor” inactive on the sidelines:)?

    • msclemons67 says:

      The Janitor was indeed inactive.

      • TIM says:

Matt Barrows said that Jacobs was the 1st player out of the locker room after the game. Doesn’t feel like a member of the team and is not being treated much like a member of the team.
And with James looking so spectacular today and with Dixon playing well,Jacobs is unlikely to get any playing time the rest of the season.

    • Neal says:

I would not be surprised if Jacobs is cut tomorrow.

      • TIM says:

Jacobs already hinted that he has asked to be released. But Baalke and JH may not see any benifit in releasing him? What happens if Gore or James or Dixon gets injured,we might need him ?

      • I missed the toilet and Kaepped all over the place says:

After the Cardinals game we will release him.

  160. Kaeps crappy record says:

So since starting rancid Kaeptree we are at a 2W 1 L 1 T record, Smithers clearly has the better winning record why are we running with Kaep if the results are the same

    • Coffee's for closers says:

you best get your flame retardant suit on.

    • msclemons67 says:

I would suggest you direct this inquiry to Harbaugh. The guy you Smithers used to trust.

      :-D

      • Kaeps crappy record says:

I don’t care who the QB is, all I care is that we win games, and Kaep is Kraepping the bed for us. What do we really get better from him.. He can scramble better, and he can’t read defenses as well as soggy arm smith. You think as a team when we drafted a QB we would get something awesome and amazing but no its just more of the same uninspired QB play. Sure Kaep will work for us if we don’t want to win a superbowl but he is no Andrew Luck or even an RG3. If Harbaugh is supposed to be such an amazing QB guru why do we get 183 passing yards and no passing TDs.

      • Grimey9er says:

You’re obviously a troll no matter what.

      • Kaeps crappy record says:

Thats what someone says when someone they don’t agree with is right.

  161. AES* says:

The Alex Smith lovers have a friend in espn’ Tom Jackson.
He is saying that CK looked a lot like Alex Smith.

Well, I don’t have a problem with T.J. saying that.
I look at it like this; If CK can look a lot like an 8 yr veteran after only 4 games, I can see why Harbaugh loves his upside.
    Case closed!

    • Coffee's for closers says:

Phew, AES just said case closed guys I guess we can finally put that topic to rest.

    • ribico says:

It is a comedown from the predicted unleashing of the 49ers passing game.

What’s important is the win, no matter the style points.

      • Coffee's for closers says:

“What’s important is the win, no matter the style points.”

Rib, if that was truly the case then Alex Smith would still be the QB.

      • ribico says:

IDK Coffee, we don’t know the mind of Harbaugh. He must think the upside is there, even if it hasn’t translated statisically.

    • Owlnin says:

AES – if they are Alex Smith lovers because they agree with TJ, and you agree with Tj. Does that make you an Alex Smith lover also?

      • AES* says:

I never loved AS. But I never said that I hated him either. I supported him as a 49er.

When Harbaugh said he (AS) gave the team the best chance to win, I rolled with it.
When Harbaugh made the move to CK, I had my issues only because of the way it transpired.

I have never questioned CK’ ability to take this team farther then AS took us. Let’s just say that I still support who the QB is, and I still trust Harbaugh’ actions.

    • Kaeps crappy record says:

Umm no that makes no sense, Alex smith looks like MR Ed, Colin Kaepernick looks like a meth head they look nothing alike. Kaep just threw a Kraeppy game today and it resembled soggy arm smiths career. Randall Kaepingham thats Kaeps new name from me.

      • msclemons67 says:

In you honest opinion, will you be an Eagles fan, Bills fan or Cardinals fan next year?

I’m curious where Alex fans think he’ll end up once he gets left in free agency again.

      • Kaeps crappy record says:

Ive been a niners fan since the 80s, I was a fan when we absolutely sucked, soggy arm smith didnt keep me a fan of the niners. the memories I have of watching the games with my father and the family tradition are what kept me to this team, nothing else.

      • Kaeps crappy record says:

Also smith wont end up in the NFL after the niners, unless its as a coaching assistant.

      • AES* says:

Someone is double posting again (lol).

  162. oldcoach says:

@Ribco my problem is’nt with either of the QB’s its with the system. I believe the system is making CK into an Alex Smith clone

    • oldcoach says:

but all things being equal your right go with the bargin

    • ribico says:

The “system” has been plenty successful to date. Better that CK adapts to it, IMO.

      • Kaeps crappy record says:

This system has nothing to do with what made soggy arm smith into the player he is, it was his awful career before that turned him into what he plays like today.

  163. TIM says:

Kap,was obviously being careful(game managing, lol),by taking sacks instead of taking risks . Although I don’t go by stats, but by the eyeball test (which Kap passes with flying colors!), he was still 18-23 (with 2 drops and two throw aways, that means he only missed on one pass and that one only missed by a foot or so of being a big reception),and he had a 100 QB rating and his legs iced the game ! I hope Roman unleashes Kap next week against a great team, unlike how they wanted to play conservative this week against a mediocre team.
Remamber, that Kap and Roman and JH are all only 2nd year guys, they are all still learning.

  164. Owlnin says:

My take is this type of play is not winning us a SB, its just a tease to get to the playoffs.

  165. The Grinch says:

No secret here I hate Alex Smith but Kap looked like his twin out there today..Getting very concerned with our offense and Seattles on our tail..Im seriously worried we may not win our own division…We just dont seem as good as last year.

    • Oops I Kaepped myself says:

Ding ding ding, thats right we aren’t doing as well as we did last year. We will not win the superbowl and we wont even make the division championship game. Good call grinch the 9ers are on the decline this year.

    • SadPanda says:

Really you HATE Smith. HATE? How does a fan hate their teams QB? I don’t get you guys obviously.

      • Kaeps crappy record says:

I hate brandon Jacobs he’s a disgusting cancer of a person. Liking a team doesn’t mean you like all the players. For me we could have any player on this team and any record and I would still like the team. I’m not an insane fan either, I still kind of think we will lose every game, I am still shell shocked into us being good because I watched all our games when we sucked ass and its still hard to believe. I like Alex Smith though, not as a player though, he seems like a good small town guy that would fun to go fishing with or hunting with, except if a deer was in front of us I might have to pull the trigger for him. You guys know how he is.

      • ribico says:

There’s a reason for the term “haters”, Panda.

  166. Coffee's for closers says:

Running for a touch down is great if you’re a running back but me I like my QB’s to pass for TD’s because ya know they’re QB’s and not running backs. QB’s that have to run to score don’t have very long careers in the NFL. So far Colin is average 0.16 TD passes per quarter he’s played this season, Smith was averaging .41 TD passes per quarter played. Smith has played more quarters this year which if he was a lesser passer would suggest his number should be closer or below Colins.

I’m glad the kid can scramble but that doesn’t equal longevity as a QB, he better learn to score more with his arm if he want’s to have an extended career.

  167. Sam B says:

I did not see anything that Colin Kaepernick did today that makes me say it was a good switch, or that we have a legit chance in the playoffs.

  168. The Grinch says:

One thing thats in our favor we seem to do well against high scoring offenses..Thats one thing Ill give our team..Well beat the Pats but lose to the Cards….Real head scratcher.

  169. Coffee's for closers says:

    Predicting Grant’s grades:

    QB: A-
    Roman:F

Here’s how he would have graded it if Alex Smith played:

    QB: C-
    Roman:F

Taking guesses on how many times Grant uses the phrase “Kaepernick bailed out Roman.”

    • TIM says:

Grant said it would be a 2 TD win,so he got that prediction 100% correct. Credit where credit is due.
And I don’t care what grades Grant gives,I just know the staff will give Kap a really good grade, since he played very well !

      • Coffee's for closers says:

“Grant said it would be a 2 TD win,so he got that prediction 100% correct. Credit where credit is due.”

        You must be joking.

      • TIM says:

        Nope,Grant finally got something right,so I give him credit,lol

    • msclemons67 says:

Smith is the past Coffee. Let him go. You can root for him on the Jaguars next year.

      • I missed the toilet and Kaepped all over the place says:

MS Clemmons Go hug your Kaep body pillow and cry into it, we all know you like it in the Kaepper hole anyways.

  170. TIM says:

Kap is sooooo much more accurate than alex it is not even a debate ! He moves better than Alex and runs better than Alex and has a better arm than alex and gets rid of the ball quicker than alex(except when he made the game losing mistake last week and is trying extra hard to be careful and not mess up,sort of like Alex, but a much more talented Alex ,lol).
Kap needs to clean up his clock managment and of course needs the great experience he is getting by playing.
But imho,Kap is leaps and bounds better than alex already, and of course he is just exploring his vast potential, while alex is at his ceiling.
Some of you just need to be happy we probably FINALLY have a Franchise QB ,after 7 years of mediocrity.
We should all hope Alex finds a place to play that makes him happy,he deserves that. But he is not in Kap’s class and Kap is moving up in class as he learns,so the sky is the limit.
The only bad thing is that Kap didn’t start from day one this season,so he could learn and be 100% ready for the playoffs, like The seattle QB and Luck and RGlll all got. But Kap is getting there quickly,so be happy, and stop whining because Alex is your only love, not the team.(not everyone, but some ).

    • ribico says:

      >>Kap is sooooo much more accurate than alex it is not even a debate !

TIM, lets not even have that debate until the 49ers start scoring passing TDs again, mkay? Just be happy for the win.

      • TIM says:

We don’t need to have a debate on something that is an established fact.
Kap is just vastly more accurate and he usually throws it deeper and is still more accurate.
Kap has a long way to go,yes, but he is already a better player than Alex.imho (and that of the Niner’s staff)

      • ribico says:

You and your “facts” again, TIM. Your track record on what is “true” is zero to be proud of, so don’t start that nonsense again.

Again, just be happy for the Niners win, and something they can build on to finish out the regular season and go into the playoffs with momentum.

      • TIM says:

Just be happy for Alex that he will get some good offers this off season ! Before JH came along ,even after JH’s first year, nobody wanted Alex.
It’s a win/win,we replace a middle of the road QB with a possible Franchise stud QB who has vast potential. The only losers are those who care more about keeping that mediocre QB instead of having the best team possible (TEAM,say it out loud !).

      • Coffee's for closers says:

Where were those offers last off season? Why would there be more suitors this year versus last?

      • TIM says:

My facts that agree with the Niner’s staff’s facts and don’t agree with your facts, lol
Like you said, just be happy for the win and that our team is moving forward with the best players playing.

      • I missed the toilet and Kaepped all over the place says:

Alex smith wont be a player next year, at least not in the NFL, he might be a coaching assisstant in the NFL though.

      • TIM says:

Coffee: Because Alex has put up better stats over the last two yeara and been fairly consistent. Some GM’s care about stats and those are the ones who will make him an offer. Those that rely on watching him actually play on the field(the old eyeball test),will pass.
But his first 2 years with good stats,in the JH/Roman offense, that protected Alex for 2 years, helps Alex to get some offers, that he would never have got after only one season of those stats.

      • I missed the toilet and Kaepped all over the place says:

I don’t see it Alex smith is done as a player in the NFL, unless he takes a job as the niners backup lol.

      • TIM says:

Kap had two scoring TD’s dropped in the last 2 games. But he moves them down the field with his passing and legs and we score by running it in. You don’t get more points for passing TD’s ,right ? ,lol.
And I am happy for the win ,the difference is that I am happy we have a better QB now, while some are upset that vtheir team has a more talented QB.

  171. Prime Time says:

Niner Nation should be worried, some wont admit it but this offense will not win a playoff game based on today’s output.

    • Neal says:

Based on your opinion Slime Welcher, nobody here takes you and your 9 phony profiles seriously, your as flawed as your boyfriend is AS. Really keep the mouth shut, and just read.

    • MontanaMan16 says:

Personally, I think we may find that out over the next 2 weeks!

    • Kaeps crappy record says:

Its about how we played last year, only David akers was more accurate last year.

    • MontanaMan16 says:

Considering that 4 of the last 5 games were against teams that won’t be in the playoffs and we didn’t look good offensively against the 4 non playoff teams, Prime has an excellent point. Being blinded by your hate for Alex is just foolish! We are in trouble if improvement doesn’t happen soon.
5 weeks ago, I couldn’t wait for this NE game, I knew we would win it! Now? I hope we don’t get embarrassed. If our D has an off game???

      • Prime Time says:

Pouring whip cream on crap is still crap. Anyone that watched that game today cannot be comfortable with CK duelling the likes if Ryan, ELi, Rodgers, Wilson, in the playoffs. We all knew today was gonna be a win. What we wanted answered was how we would win?
Defense, running game, and special teams. The only problem is that wont be enough in the playoffs. CK has added value to the running game. But, not the pass offense.
3 more games for our running QB to convert to a overall QB.

    • Chicago49er says:

Prime, i am concern about our offense however i had the same concern with Alex! This is a new QB and it will take time for the offense to gel together. CK did not play bad at all. In matter of fact he was on target and if the refers did not blow the INT we would have another TD today! Also for the second week in the row our OL did not play with energy until the 3rd Q! CK will grow and learn from this experience. However i have to agree with you that teams like the Giants, Atlanta, Green Bay, Houston and Patriots have more stability in their offense but we still have a chance to start peaking. GO NINERS

  172. Uh Jason, a FortyNiner Fan says:

Is it me or does Grant have his grades up sooner after a loss?

  173. I missed the toilet and Kaepped all over the place says:

The team has been really really mediocre lately, I think that the team is having a locker room dispute. Things just seem off to me.

    • ribico says:

It’s what this team is. Don’t you remember last year, they’d go for stretches during games where it looked like the offense was disinterested. The D would clamp down, the O or ST would do just enough to pull the game out or put it away… and somehow we ended up in the championship game.

A change in QB is not going to change that dynamic. I was very impressed with this win, they are back to their ways – the change of QB will not derail them as I had feared earlier. Even if it doesn’t make them better it doesn’t make them worse either.

      • msclemons67 says:

The difference this year is the D is going through stretches where it looks disinterested.

That’s more scary really – the D is the backbone of this team.

  174. Loony toon says:

No disrespect to our great coach, he is indeed a the one of the most important pieces of our puzzle but I urge him to play Alex this game start him, this is to me not a a walk in the park but a fairly safe game to say we got this one and I loved what I saw with Colin he is definitely a qb that we can say we have for the new niners he wasn’t the starter before Coach talk to him and let him know he is still our future diamond but he ‘s gonna have to sit this one out and get the kinks and rust off of Alex, please! I’m telling you, we need Alex to be mentally prepared because in the playoffs we def gonna need him, his experience is undeniable one that we need or we can find ourselves in a Russian roulette. Again nothin away from Kaepernick but this game is for Alex Smith, lets do the right thing here, Colin will not be hurt or spiteful he is young and if a true niner will understand if Alex doesn’t start or at least have some quarters to play you will regret this believe me because he is essential for a Super Bowl ring especially against games where you don’t wanna teach and say now you know you’re learning we’ll and that time is win or go home. I am a true 49ers at heart but I have to call it as I see it because I am a football fan first period and This our year again lets not blow it last year we had it aside from special teams f*_~ing up 3 times n turning over to the giants still would’ve had the game if not for the officials with the controversial call in the 4 th quarter with 2 minutes and forty something I believe or around there Eli manning at their 10 throws a completion to Bradshaw and we ransack him heavy the man was indeed moving forward and we forced a fumble which we recovered and for sure would have Been a touch down but the refs called dead ball a play by the way in the nfl the only Unchallengeable and had to regain possession only to score a field goal after they punted and tie for overtime there wouldn’t be an overtime we woul’ve won the Super Bowl let’s not let the Super Bowl slip through our fingers again but this time because we wanted to ignore the obvious. Thank you for reading.

  175. TIM says:

So,what you are saying is that Kap IS Alex Smith, but with more talent and potential and room for growth and the possibility to become vastly better than Alex. Unlike Alex ,who has reached his zenith.
Kap only has one pick ! Alex had 3 in one game this year . Who is the better game manager, already ? LOL.

    • I missed the toilet and Kaepped all over the place says:

Go and hug your Kaep body pillow and cry into it, we all know you like it in the Kaepper hole anyways.

  176. Loony toon says:

Lets keep it real the only way Alex is going to keep being Alex is if he is not rusty and mentally prepared. If Harb decides to start playing him when he needs to bail out Colin we can,t blame Alex for mentally being offsides confidence is most important factor for a Qb. Coach can say what he wants, ” Alex will stay well trained, well worked and well prepared ” but confidence can’t be obtained in practice it’s by making it happen proving and believing in yourself after doing what you do we’ll on the field against the adrenaline packed games of playing the best teams in the league.

  177. Loony toon says:

I misplaced the post all the way up there^^^^^. “Sorry for some of the misspelled words in my posts especially the last one like ” doing what you do WELL on the field” I’m fighting with the iPad’s spell corrector anyway who doesn’t agree that we need Alex and you can’t learn playoff winning experience in half a season it takes years of hard hitting, game running, and proven throwing arm to be a Qb champion in the playoffs.”

  178. msclemons67 says:

Yeesh. I’m glad I’m not at the Packers game. That looks miserable.
