Jeff Garcia spoke on 95.7 The Game Monday afternoon. Here’s what he said about Colin Kaepernick’s performance against the Rams, and Alex Smith’s recent benching.
Q: How do you evaluate Colin Kaepernick’s against the Rams?
GARCIA: “I don’t think that he played a bad football game, I just think there were two unfortunate mistakes that, obviously, were instant points for the Rams. Anytime you do that, especially on the road in a tough environment, those things are tough to overcome. But they still had a chance to win the football game. He did make plays through the game. He made an outstanding run.
“I think one of the things that maybe we didn’t see as much yesterday that we’ve seen throughout the season was the involvement of the tight ends. The tight ends really didn’t have an impact in the game – only a few catches between them.
“The running game with Gore wasn’t as strong as it’s been in the past, but hey, it was a tough football game. The Rams are not a weak team.
“The unfortunate thing is David Akers, who’s been such a great kicker throughout his career, has missed two game-winning field goals in each of those games. We could be talking about a different outcome right now.”
Q: Jerry Rice gave Jim Harbaugh a ‘D’ for his handling of the quarterback situation. I know you’ve been involved in those QB situations from every angle. If you’d give Harbaugh a letter grade for how’s he handled this, what grade would you give him?
GARCIA: (Laughs). “I’m not going to give him a grade. Most coaches would have put Alex Smith back in as the starting quarterback as soon as he got over his concussion symptoms. He would have been put back in the starting position because he’s earned it. He’s done the necessary things from a consistency standpoint to be that guy, especially from the outside looking in.
“But we don’t know the details of what goes on inside. We don’t know who is the stronger leader for the team, who does Harbaugh really favor as the guy to take them on the Super Bowl run.
“That’s the factor here – who’s going to be your guy to help you win a Super Bowl. Can Alex Smith help you win a Super Bowl, or does he believe Colin Kaepernick is the guy who can help win that Super Bowl. That’s the coach’s decision. That’s what he has to live with.”

Interesting.

Decision made. Live with it.
Really? I couldn’t have made it through the rest of the day without that pithy little proverb! ; )
Hofer,
your so pathetic that you’ve made your daily posts all about the backup.
Coach has made his choice. Move on…..
Bay,
The blog article is about the QB situation. Are you suggesting that Grant should not discuss it the rest of the year? Like it or not, every mistake will be scrutinized and magnified. This move was atypical for this time of year, so of course it will be discussed. Risk or reward? We’ll find out.
Ultimately, no matter my opinion, I agree with you Jack. It’s Harbaugh’s career, team, and call.
Man, I miss Garcia.
Garcia pretty much said the same thing Mooch said yesterday or the day before.
Pretty well summed it up Garcia. Good job.
Always thought Garcia was a class act, especially the way he dealt with TO. After reading this interview my opinion has’nt changed.
Yes I agree, excellent QB too.
Excellent QB??
Who were YOU watching all those crappy seasons??
Still looks like he gets his hair cut at Home Depot…
On Barrows Blog Harbaugh says Dobbs likely for sunday and an interesting article on how Kap needs to be a better game manager.
Two new terms for this blog. Instead of the smithers and the haters, I’m thinking The Alexcuses and the kaepologies. Now go to your corners and come out fighting
OC,
Does this blog provide you entertainment? LOL
Why yes it does
I was thinking Roboscuses in honor (or horror) of Jordy’s ridiculous nickname.
I’ve been trying to think up a Colin version of alexcuses. Kaepologies is gold. Well done, old coach!
Kaepologies works.
Hopefully not 8 years of them.
What cool nicknames! You guys are geniuses! I see what you did with these CK nicknames; you kind of created the other side of the “Alexscuses” coin–so to speak. How clever! Let’s consign this guy to the scrap heap after 1 bad performance. Makes perfect sense and we’ve all been dying to that, right? Better yet, maybe Kaeprnick’s play will diminish to the point where you’re proven completely right. Now won’t that be a sweet reward come season’s end! Who needs a Super Bowl, when you’re afforded that kind of personal satisfaction?
What works for the Haters works for Smithers, no?
Strong work coach, We needed some new lingo injected in to this familiar debate
J.Garcia:
“That’s the factor here – who’s going to be your guy to help you win a Super Bowl. Can Alex Smith help you win a Super Bowl, or does he believe Colin Kaepernick is the guy who can help win that Super Bowl. That’s the coach’s decision. That’s what he has to live with.”
Harbaugh has made his decision to go with CK.
Eric Davis (49er radio commentator) said that ‘with CK, we don’t know what he is. With Alex, what know what he isn’t.’
Davis’ words could not have been more on point. Perhaps Harbaugh is banking on CK’ potential unknown upside, rather than AS’ ceiling.
If Harbaugh is going to ride it out with CK, that works for me.
That’s just a cheap shot for Eric Davis…he was known for that. It’s far from original also….we just watch and wait from now til the end of the season.
Why is it a cheap shot? E.Davis has watched AS from an analysis perspective over the last year and a half.
You are certainly welcome to make your opinion, but I don’t agree with the cheap shot take.
Its a cheap shot because he is implying that AS has hit his celeing and that that celeing “isn’t” a top tier QB. Some might consider that cheap because they saw AS progressing and moving towards that direction
*we know he what he isn’t
>>Eric Davis (49er radio commentator) said that ‘with CK, we don’t know what he is. With Alex, what know what he isn’t.’
Eric Davis is wrong. We know what Alex isn’t? Give me a break. His performance versus New Orleans in last season’s playoffs clearly demonstrates what Alex is– and that is a championship caliber quarterback. You cannot argue otherwise if you look at Alex’s body of work in the Harbaugh era. He delivered numerous victories with minimal errors on his part. What does Eric Davis want, blood?
What Alex isn’t is/was a QB who did not come close to following that performance against the NYG in the his last two games.
Harbaugh went with CK for a reason. Harbaugh knows his players better then you and me. It’s time to trust his decisions.
I respect Garcia’s opinion, he was a very good NFL QB but he never went through anything like this situation.
He never had any QB competition when he was with the Niners. His backups were bums like Steve Stenstrom, Giovanni Carmazzi and Tim Rattay.
I think Garcia started for 5 years and he lost most of his playoff games.
I just remembered I think Garcia may have been benched once or he was hurt and then regained starting job…..I’m not 100% sure though.
Crab,
In Garcia’s first season here he was benched in favor of Steve Stenstrom for a few games.
Jack – Thanks……. Angus is right, Garcia was not the blame for those playoff losses. Garcia put up lots of points. He was a warrior.
He may have lost most of his playoff games, but not through any fault of his. His teams just weren’t that good. He made that offense better than it really was, if that makes any sense, which it doesn’t…..okay, that’s enough internet for me.
The defense was okay, not great, but okay. The DBs were lacking but the line and LBs played pretty well. But the O-line sucked ostrich eggs, the really big ones. When Hearst was healthy we could run; with Barlow not so much. Good receivers, and a franchise weapon in TO, before he self-destructed. But the O-line weakness meant Garcia had to run for his life a lot, and got beat to a pulp after a few years of that.
Football Outsiders has the 1999 as the second worse pass defense they ever tracked.
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/dvoa-ratings/2012/dvoa-70-worst-teams-ever
Yeah, they drafted Plummer and Webster the next year, right? I was thinking more of the teams that Garcia actually got to the playoffs. Those weren’t terrific against the pass by any means, but not as bad as 1999. Also not as bad as Nolan’s first year, when everyone left or broke down. That was pretty grim. I remember Adams and Carpenter. Couldn’t tell you who the corners were. IN ’99, we had Schulters and McDonald, though McD was playing out the string. Darnell Walker was one starter at CB, and that’s scary. What is even worse is, the other guy must have been worse, because I can’t even remember him, either.
We’ve come a long ways since those days.
I believe Garcia was better than he got credit for and the only reason the 9ers did’nt resign him was the cap
coach – Things got ugly after the Garcia days. I’m glad we went back to our old colors, I hated that red facemask.
“I hated that red facemask.”
How about those white pants they wore for a couple seasons? Yikes!!
Ugh!
Think Garcia record was something like 35 wins and 36 losses.
That’s exactly what it was undercenter. A lot of those losses came in the first 2 seasons when they were going through transition on defense, and the last with Erickson.
Exactly Jack
We got rid of Garcia for guy who could “make all the throws” in Tim Rattay. How did that turn out for us?
You don’t get rid of a winner. That is the lesson. JH thinks he is above the rule. He isn’t.
No DS, they got rid of Garcia as part of a purge to clear up their salary cap situation.
Nice try though.
No Jack
I remember those days. We dumped Jeff because Dennis Erickson ,the worse coach in NFL history, never liked Jeff’s style. That of a scamper. He wanted a pure pocket passer who has a stronger arm. And that person was Rattay. His offense required a more deep ball threat QB and Garcia wasn’t that QB.
You’re wrong Jack. I remember the articles and the TV interviews. The salary cap was an excuse. You don’t dump your QB for salary cap reasons. That is a lie. You figure something else out. Winning is hard. And Garcia was a proven winner here. We dumped him and Rattay played so well we got Alex Smith. That is the history of events Jack.
Ok DS. Is that why they let TO go at the same time. Erickson didn’t like having a big fast wide receiver to throw the ball to?
I will let Jeff know that he was lied to when I see him again.
Once again we have DS basing football decisions on “magical auras”, “karma” and “unicorns pooping rainbows”.
Sub par players get benched or cut. That’s the reality of football.
How’s it going msc?
Nice to see you spend your time reading my posts which you call garbage by the way. Which makes you used to reading something worse I’ll have to assume.
You make no sense msc. If my posts are garbage, why do you spend time around garbage? You really aren’t as smart as you once were.
@DS rebutting stupidity is fun. As long as you spew your nonsense on a 49ers blog I will answer.
Next year when you’re spewing your idiocy on an Eagles or Cardinals blog I won’t notice you.
When you pollute a 49ers’ blog I will gladly point out your stupidity.
Jack
Do you suffer memory problems? Not a joke by the way.
TO was a cancer here. He called Garcia a fag insulting his manhood. Who does that? TO then went to Philly and questioned McNabb in the Super Bowl. He is a cancer.
As somebody who supposedly likes Garcia, I’m shocked you’d bring up TO as your counter argument. A WR isn’t as valuable as a QB. Simple fact of the game. And TO wasn’t so good the next season with his antics. Besides I remember the Erickson offense using strong arm QB’s to get the ball deep. Not TO’s strong suit. TO was a true WCO WR. Short passes, run thru tacklers to get lots of YAC and the same yardage as a deeper pass would yield, but at a higher rate of success since the pass was shorter and easier to complete.
And I do get the same kind of feeling with AS as I did when Garcia was dumped. Both QB’s were improving. The team was behind them. They had both won the most exciting playoff games in Niner history, then lost the next one. Then shortly afterward get dumped.
I liked Garcia and didn’t like the Niners for doing what they did to him. I’m holding the same position for AS.
DS,
What were we talking about?
What does JG’ playing record have to do with his opinion?
He knows enough about football in the NFL and especially the QB position to make an educated and well thoughtout comment.
We can decipher and accept the pro’s and con’s on CK’ emergence all we want. This is Harbaugh’ call and even though some of us aren’t happy with it, CK is our QB, period!
I’m curious what the complainers are getting out of posting about the backup? At least when I bitched it was because I disliked our starting QB’s style of play. I wanted him benched. I got what I wanted.
The guys that keep bitching about AS being replaced will not get their wish. He’s done here. If he has any pride he will go else where. Just wondering if this is some type of therapy for the Smithers. Continuing to talk about a QB that has no chance to play for us again unless there is an injury.
I’d say something but I don’t think you’ll get it. That and I’m sick of talking about the QB position as if it’s the only position and deciding factor with the team. It’s enough for for one day. One month really. Let’s talk RB or something else.
I hope the 9ers aren’t looking for another QB year after next year when they exit the playoffs early for the 2nd year in a row due to their big gun having no head on his shoulders! But it will be fun to watch long balls and a scampering qb rather than boring winning football. Arizona will feel good about taking their place in the 2013 sb.
You sure don’t sound like a Niner fan
Arizona in a Super Bowl??? They might want to try and get to .500 first. I’d love to see them get what’s his name. That would be a joke. You will be reminded of how bad he was before JH came here. Just stand by. You will see how great He is next year when he’s a member of this blog at worst. Backup QB someplace else at best.
Bay- Because it’s on their minds and it bothers them. Just like when you bitched about AS percieved suckiness. It’s no different.
It’s different Bray because for Smith it is now OVER. My bitching had purpose. I wanted Smith benched for CK.
The Smithers bitching has no purpose. He’s not getting his job back here. So if you are 49er fans move on.
The issue here is that the Smithers as a group if I am going to stereotype are not real “football people”.
They are perceived intellects that shared their football knowledge. Live for the debate. Loved that an underdog like Smith was their guy. I always said their love for Smith was first. The Smithers were loyal to AS first, 49ers second.
The second he got benched my point was proven. Their loyalty to Smith runs so deep that Kaepernicks successful start against the bears was down played. His effort against N.O. down played even though several big plays and a scoring run were called back on penalties. And finally the coach is being attacked now. The same coach that saved us from being bottom dwellers and saved us from Nolan and Sing.
This group just doesn’t want to admit that the holes that Smith had in his game caused his demise. Well now stop bitching about it. Because your bitching has no purpose…. Unless you want to buy Cardinal jerseys and join another blog next year.
Bay- No it’s the same. The ends don’t justify the means. It’s a blog, your bitching had no more purpose than anyone elses.
My bitch is the OL got handled last week. I think active DL’s give the Niners fits, Vikes-Giants-Rams all have quick D-linemen.
Well Bray,
then your bitching is relevant. It’s about the Oline and current players that start. Hopefully they will play better for us.
Once again, bitching about AS is pointless. He isn’t our starter anymore and more than likely is gone unless he wants to be the backup here.
Bay
Ohhh now I see. When U bitched about AS it was valiant because u wanted him benched (which had 0 impact on JH decision to do so) When the Smithers bitch about getting AS back in there (since they believe he did nothing to loose his job) they have no purpose.
WHAT A HYPOCRITE
As for being AS fans first b4 9ers fans U JUST DONT GET IT. If we win it doesnt matter who the qb is. (I know this is a foreign concept for u since u continually bitched when we won games with AS because it didnt have enough flair)
AS LONG AS WE WIN bay or 23j can be our QB but when we loose and we think there is a better option on the sideline (AS) Why cant we voice our oppinion?
Get over your Alex Smith complex. Part of the issue on this blog is the way you and other critiqued AS play, now that he is not the starter, others are using the same crap against you. Most of the crap post on this blog has nothing really to do with who is starting, but other posters….
That said, I do not like the benching, but have faith that it will work out in the end. Go Niners
Bay,
What is the blog article about? If you wish to ignore the article, that is your choice. If we wish to comment, that is our choice. So mind your you business!
Proud of you Hofer. You wrote 4 sentences that didn’t attack Harbaugh and didn’t mention AS.
I’m proud of you as well Bay. I’ve never seen you so gracious, gregarious, and congenial to the happenings at 4949 Centennial. Cheers!
How about “most coaches would have put Alex Smith back in because” Hes a better QB, mindblowing I know I know, one step at a time people!
Simply because he’s not a better QB. Stay tuned. You will see. Give him 5 games. You gave Alex 60 and he still got benched.
I’d prefer a SB win, but it seems you’d prefer to be right about Alex Smith being bad.
Grant, Nice too see that your back once again. How long are you staying? You’ve been gone for quite sometime. I guess they letting you post your column for good behavior. Goodluck !
same guy from the si illustrated forums? Same guy who does martial arts?
Coach hand picked Kaep. Kaep is his guy. He doesn’t like AS (as a player. I’m sure Alex is a nice guy.) Last season we go 13- 3 and Coach goes after Manning in the off season.
This Ram’s game could have been won by Akers or a different play called that got the Ram’s a TD.
Kap is the guy. Absolutely no doubt. Coach has a lot of self confidence. Also, a ton of support from his high profile brother and father. Then there’s that other qb Coach hand picked to lead his Stanford team, Andrew Luck. Coach has a good, no, great, track record. And he develops qb’s as well. (Josh Johnson.) Coach will live or die with his own decisions.
Alex will be released or traded in this coming off season. Kap looks like a keeper to me. No time to look back. Not now, anyway.
Btw, anyone watch RGIII run and throw last night and think, “Kap can do that.” I did.
RedNgold
I said the exact same thing to myself. He can and he will. He already is doing it.
Red N Gold
While everything u said is true, There are a couple of issues. JH recruited AS to stay before the lockout season so in a way he “picked ” AS just as much as his other guys u mentioned. He developed AS to the point he is now (70% comp 4th in QBR etc.) and the other JH sucess u cite (JJ) is out of the league so not exactly a selling point.
Where I disagree is that the time to make the change is 10 games in to a winning season where we are SB favorites. Had he started CK from the start or waited til the offseason it would be more conventional. But now CK’s growing pains could bounce us out of the postseason. Now if we were a longshot to win the SB then fine gamble with CK. But if you read this blog the first 2 months of the season u heard SUPERBOWL or bust and now all that preassure falls on CK (unfairly since every young qb goes through ups and downs, ussualy on a team thats goin nowhere and can afford those ups and downs in exchange for a brighter future)
Because of what Harbaugh has done for this team I’m going with his gut feeling on this one. If after the Saints game Harbaugh decided give Alex his job back and we lost to Rams because Alex could only get us in field goal range and Rams won 9-6 in overtime everyone would have called for him back to the bench , yes Colin back stepped too far during that safety , however it was a BS call the ball cruised 20 yards should not have been a safety , the option play call ticked me off terrible call terrible execution , but it happens colin zipped all the way inside the rams 20 and fired a dart to Walker he dropped , if he made that catch we’re not having this conversation , if Akers made game winning kick we would be excited to see Kap next week. With Alex we won 2 , lost 1 to vikings how was his play? not good , then he tore apart the Jets and bills Def. , then we got smoked by the Giants , how did Alex play in that game? remember 3 INT’S?Then he won a tough game against Seahawks , then smoked the AZ Def. , we went into by and hole team looked flat at home against the Rams , when Alex got knocked out and Kap came in we were down 14-7 , Kap gave us chance to win , Def couldnt stop em , Akers couldnt make kick. To the point we have more problems then just a QB , the Rams smothered our running game , Akers is not reliable , special teams coverage unit is not so special are pass catchers have loose fingers , Brandon Jacobs is not a good replacement for hunter. Would Alex take us to a SB? I wouldnt bet on it if we see giants they’ll just use same game plan as last 2 games , if we see Packers I would bet wed beat em again, so before you judge Jim Harbaugh maybe he knows we’re going to have to score through the air to make it , there isnt superbowl or playoff winning kickers waiting for our call or they wouldnt be unemployed.
Good post David.
My gut tells me Smith should start.
But I can’t argue with any of your points.
Why do you think the Rams smothered the run game? Is that an isolated part of the offense that has nothing to do with the QB? Is any of Frank Gore success due to Alex Smith setting him in the right spot before plays and making audibles at the right time?
Just some questions most people have never bothered to even ask themselves…
Mark Sanchez makes more money than ahemmmmmm.
http://www.csnbayarea.com/football-san-francisco-niners/niners-talk/Why-it-makes-sense-for-49ers-to-trade-Al?blockID=809779
What does the Jets over paying for a terrible qb have to do with what AS makes? The Jets aren’t exactly a franchise I’d be looking at for tips.
Look at the situation the NYJ are in.
GM Tannenbaum has handcuffed the entire Roster with moronic Contracts like that.
Bart Scott, Santonio Holmes,Sanchez are good examples of what bad GMs do to prevent a Team from having options.
The point should be that Harbaugh just threw our season down the drain to play his guy. His ego got in the way and now it is a near certainty that we will not win SB this year. If you think that Kaepernick increases our odds your on crack and irrational. I like Kap but this was not the right time. We could lose the next four and Jim Harbaugh’s ego would probably not allow him to make the change. That is just wrong. Anything less than a superbowl is a failure.
If the Niners don’t get to the Superbowl, it will be due more to injuries (Hunter, KW, etc) than CK replacing Alex.
@ Nick:
I see that you have your excuses lined up already. Not a whole lot of faith in Kaep, huh?
Poor Kyle Williams, it’ll be his fault even when he’s not playing.
@Claude
Haven’t you noticed, excuses are now an accepted form of rational.
Nick
CK was chosen because he is better than AS in theory. That means he gets a harder set of standards to live up to.
He hasn’t even equaled AS. Much less surpass him.
@Nick we’ve been rebelling against 8 years of excuses for the Precious. It isn’t consistent to make excuses for Kaepernick.
We already know Alex isn’t good enough. If Kaep isn’t good enough then he needs to be benched too. CK7 didn’t look very good against the Rams.
Yeah.. not making it to the SB because Kyle Williams got hurt.
If he had of got hurt last season we wouldn’t have made it to the SB then either. Wait…. Think I got that back wards.
Yup, last season we got shut out because of Williams playing, this year we might get shut out because Williams is not playing. This blog is becoming an Escher print.
clemons, don’t make me defend Kaep again! Apparently that’s not in my makeup.
So you guys don’t think the loss of Hunter will negatiely impact the team? I’m not making any excuses, if CK7 stinks it up, then he’ll need to step aside.
And DS, you are clueless as usual:
He hasn’t even equaled AS. Much less surpass him.
Kashman24, If the niners loses both games to the Patriots at New England and to Seattle, Your prediction might be right, I won’t be surprise the niners missed out on the Playoff or just play as a wild card. And they’ll end up, maybe facing the Packers at Greenbay in December , thet looks very tough for them against A. Rogers and the Packers in the snow and cold weather is terrible playing in GB.
Miami is no slouch either…
@49erman
I had the same worry last night. I didn’t know who to cheer for. The Giants or the Redskins. If we don’t win our division, we’ll be fighting with the Redskins for that wildcard spot. And I don’t want to be cheering them on. If they get on a roll and we stumble, I would have been cheering on the team which takes our place in the playoffs.
Not a pleasant thought.
Exactly DS !
@KASHMAN24
I totally agree: this move is all about Harbaugh’s ego and not a sound football decision. I am more hopeful than you about winning the SB this season, though I do figure the move to Kaepernick reduced our chances by a good bit.
Rams played a tough game. There were many mistakes by many players. Don’t worry at all. Kap is a winner. A very talented instinctual smart QB who is only going to get better. We aren’t paying Alex Smith 8.5 mil next yr when kap is the far more explosive player. kap is the present and the future. Embrace it.
Thats good assumption, Please explained to all at the expense of the 2012 season? The experiment by harbaugh, is it justifiedable, that he put the niners season on the line for his experiments? And it doesn’t matter if it cost the 49ers and their fans a trip to the SB?
If the 49er’s don’t get to the Super Bowl this season, it won’t be because of the QB switch….there are numeros factors that’ll play into it. The Rams have shown the 4 teams remaining on the 9er’s schedule exactly what they need to do in order to beat them.
Unless GR and JH expand the offense and get a little more imaginative with the play calling, I think two of the next four games are going to be tougher to win than they should be….in short everybody needs to do their respective job a little better.
55Niner
Kinda agree. They won’t make it though because of all the things that happen as a result of the switch. The team isn’t as unified as last year. Last year the team rallied around AS starting with Camp Alex. Now it appears that person they rallied around who is the Captain, isn’t good enough now?
Besides the change in QB play, that has an impact on the psyche of the team.
Do you get the same vibe from the locker room/team now as you did before the QB switch? I don’t.
55
What if we loose as a direct result of CK’s play? If the D pitches a shutout and akers hits all his fg but Kaep has a pick 6 or a crucial fumble and HE IS THE UNDISPUTED reason why we loose? How will that make you feel. While I hope that doesnt happen im afraid that it might. a game manager might not win a game for you but he sure won’t loose it either. A gunslinger can cut both ways (just ask B.Farve fans)
My question to some off the 49er faithfulls, is it okay for harbaugh to put the 2012 season on the line? And tell us all, if was there was a team that made a QB switched late in the season and went on to win the Superbowl? We all know as fan, regardless who we are routing for we want the best for our team. It just bothering to see a HC liked harbaugh who is egoistic experimented with another QB, that might cost the 49ers and their fans a trip too the SB. In the past , the teams i know that would make those kind kind a move are teams that are rebuilding. And I don’t think the niners are in that category. If somehow our team don’t make it, its just frustrating to see the season went down the drain, because of one selfish head coach who is driven by his ambitions and selfness and ego’s. If this is the facts, the niners are gonna from scratched again next season, trying to get too the Playoffs and too the SB. And if that happened, our division rivals are getting better each year. Its gonna be tough too be in that position liked we’re in the last 2 season.
>>My question to some off the 49er faithfulls, is it okay for harbaugh to put the 2012 season on the line?
Those of us who thought we could have won with Smith will howl. Those who didn’t think that, no big deal, as it wouldn’t have happened anyway. Basically this year was a writeoff from the very beginning for those kinds of fans.
55, they might now have to expand the offense and be more creative and take more chances cause that is the skill set of the QB now. However, it is not the skill set of the surrounding talent and what wins in the playoffs. They are getting further and further away from their scheme that won them a lot of games this year and last.
Also, DS is right. There seems to be a disconnect on the field in terms of chemistry, players speaking out about the switch, penalties, mental msiatkes. Its not a well oiled machine and at this point of the season, it is concerning.
DS, I saw it coming in the Giants game. When harbaugh was inserting CK, even the niners offense was moving. Why didn’t Harbaugh made the move earlier in the season and waited late in the season. It makes no sense at all? His putting the niners season on the line. I gutty feeling bad things are gonna happened gonna toward the playoffs.
49erkid,
I told you he was done didn’t I!! Bwahahahaha!
Taco head, make sure you checked with your Parole officier. hahaha..
So who has the concussion and who has the hot hand? Switching qbs mid season was ludicrous…especially the way it was done. Who switches out a veteran qb for an unknown. Looks like JH had the concussion. As far as the hot hand seems CK was so hot he put up points for both teams! Let’s hope we can get through this make the playoffs and SB.
“a49erfan” is an apt user name.
You’re obviously a fan of “a” 49er.
Next year you can be “aEaglefan”! Pretty cool, eh?
That was a logical and compelling argument Smither. I applaud your use of Socratic method.
So, tell me, will you be an Eagles fan next year as well? Or do you think you’ll be a Cardinals fan?
I really curious where the Alex Smith fans think he’ll be next year. We know they won’t be here.
come on, msclemons. Enough with the Jordo/bay/md level posting. You are better than that. I think.
He was….then he got his “precious” mindset….
Was hoping now that the switch had been made it would drop…
@ ribico, txtree49er:
Yeah, I given up hope for msc. He seems to be stuck in some sort of troll loop.
*Yeah, I have given up hope for msc.
rib – When do the Knicks play the Pelicans?
One more question Jeff….
Have you ever won a super bowl?
No?
K, thanks for your time Jeff.
And you have Jomona?
It takes a giant pair of bauloukas to admit a mistake and correct it
Dammit Grant, I’m a poster, not a doctor.
Don’t delete posts. Just edit them with a [moron] tag or something. It wrecks the threads.
Well, Harbaugh has certainly been successful at one thing this season: dividing the 49ers fan base. I’ve never seen Niner fans at each other’s throats like this. We even have people calling others who disagree with the decision names, Smithers. I assume that’s a take-off on “birthers” and “truthers”. Very demeaning.
@ Rocket,
I love the Hatfields versus the McCoys reference. Funny as hell. At least I am the one that for the first time in a long time can sit back and truly enjoy the game. I am watching our team compete and watching a new personality and culture develop.
Must be pretty frustrating on the other side not enjoying the position we are in because of one player not being in…..
>>At least I am the one that for the first time in a long time can sit back and truly enjoy the game
Didn’t enjoy a 13-3 season and the NFCCG? Pathetic, it is all about one guy for you, isn’t it?
Couldn’t agree more ribico.

People care more about being right than about winning.
Guess we both need therapy.
No Rib,
because if Kaep isn’t cutting it and gets replaced, I’ll have faith in Harbaugh that he knows what he’s doing.
My love isn’t for one player like you pitiful fools. My love is for my team. My disgust was that one player one position was under performing and I wanted it upgraded. Guess Harbaugh agreed. He made the adjustment. All good now?
If you don’t like it or don’t agree and can’t move on, go to therapy… You need it anyway.

Yet while the team you love was on a 13-3 tear you didn’t enjoy it. You are one confused dude, bay.
From my perspective it doesn’t matter who’s the QB once the Niners get into the playoffs. I’ve been to 4 49er playoff games in my life:
Dec 28, 1985 Wildcard round, Giants Stadium. Giants 17, Niners 3. Montana QB.
Jan 11, 1998 NFC Championship, Candlestick. Green Bay 23, Niners 10. Young QB.
Jan 12, 2003 NFC Divisional, Raymond James, Tampa. Tampa Bay 31, Niners 6. Garcia QB.
Jan 22, 2012 NFC Championship, Candlestick. Giants 20, San Francisco 17. Smith QB.
Clearly, it is the duty of this board to prevent me from attending any further 49er playoff games.
@ ribico:
Clearly. Just stay home you bastard.
I’ll try. I’m going to the Pats game in two weeks. You know who to blame if they fall short.
You seem to be ok in the regular season though Rib. They won 34-0 the last time correct?
Oops.
Too far, Grant? Anyway I could have saved it, or was it doomed from the start?
Yes Rib do the Niners a favor and stay away from the playoff game. Its quite obvious that your the culprit for the losses in those games.
“is it okay for Harbaugh to put the 2012 season on the line?”
IMHO, yes. He was hired to drive the bus.
I have read a lot of “ifs” over the last few weeks; two themes come to mind.
Concerning Kap; “If other players had done, this or that, or the refs didn’t call this or that, if the lineman wouldn’t have held, etc. we would have won.” Good or bad who is most responsible for the points on the board, for each team?
Also, “If we don’t get the roughing the passer call on what was a light shoulder tap by a Rams player who was pushed into Kap we don’t score”
And, while I did not like the call on Gholdston it was the correct call, because he went in hard. When the QB starts his slide the responsibility falls on the defender to ease up. Gholdston made no attempt, whatsoever to ease up on the hit.
Concerning Alex; The one if mentioned most; “In the NFC title game, if Alex would have been better than 1/13 on 3rd down.” I remember these three area which to me was just as important – if not more so than the fumbles.
Crabtree dropped several passes, at least one on a very critical 3rd down late in the game which would have kept the drive alive.
The touchdown pass called back because of an illegal block by Gore.
The most glaring, the fumble which was not a fumble that would have put the game away.
Just as Kap cannot control the actions of either players or refs, neither can Alex.
